Hello everyone! Been a looong time since I’ve logged on!!

Today, I’ve notice more and more things lately on Instagram, Tumblr, Tik Tok, or even Pinterest and I would like to address it here. I am sorry if I sound ignorant but I’ll try to word it as best as possible and im very blunt when it comes to explaining myself.

I love the JJK fandom. We are funny and a bunch of crackheads and really chill people. However, that chill ends up disappearing when it comes to shipping. Shipping is suppose to be fun and creative, not toxic. What I’ve been noticing a lot is that people are really hating on “m|m or f|f” ships. I’m not saying that “m|f” ships don’t get the same amount of hate but I’ll get to heteroships soon.

Now, I’m a talk about myself for a second. I am a straight woman that happens to ship Itafushi and Nobamaki. It’s very rare for me to ship same gender because I actually am not someone who ships people often and a lot of ships happen to be “m|f”. However:

I don’t ship people based on genders, I ship them based on chemistry.

If they got good chemistry and it builds up then best believe I am going to ship it and get happy when I see them.

But I notice that those ships gets more hated on than any other ships especially Nobamaki.

Now back to the hate on “m|m and f|f” ships. A lot of people always complains that those ships are better off as friends why bother “making it gay”. I don’t think they realize that it’s very hypocritical that they say and then end up shipping a “m|f” pair. People who ship straight ships shouldn’t say that at all because literally a guy and girl can be friends.

But then there are also people who get mad at people for shipping a “m|f”. I’ve seen that too and when I see the people who ship the same ship as me and then ends up attacking someone for shipping a heteroships, I am like “???”.

But… I will say this… the hate that people get when they ship a heteroships is nowhere near the same as when people ship LGBTQIA. And I can definitely tell you that.

When I first started watching anime I always see the main guy and main girl get paired up and live happily ever after. And as I started getting older I realize that a lot of those pairs are very forced in it.

What I’m trying to say that even though you are getting hated on for shipping a heteroships at the end of the day you still get what you get while people in the LGBTQIA doesn’t have their representation.

A lot of people don’t ship “m|m or f|f” becasue they look sexy and hot. No, a lot of them ships them because they CAN FEEL THE CHEMISTRY. And honestly, my years of watching anime I’ve notice why LGBTQIA ships are more popular than heteroships is because heteroships is always the same thing and it’s actually boring with no development. Half of it doesn’t make any sense and when I see why people ship LGBTQIA I actually see why it makes more sense.

Another thing I don’t like especially when it comes to shipping is that people tell shippers that:

“aren’t you pushing ‘a&b’ ship too much? Like they’re just friends”

Again, do you do that with your heteroships? I’ve seen that happen most with Itafushi and Nobamaki, especially Nobamaki.

And I am sorry, but I will say this. I dislike Itakugi & Yutamaki. I think Itakugi would be forced for me with no romantic development + they act like long lost siblings and Yutamaki is boring for me and it reminds me a heteroship of Nobamaki.

I’m really sorry for offending you guys about the whole Yutamaki and Nobamaki. It’s literally the same just with different people shipped with Maki. And I can bring up some panels if you guys say “how??”. Also, it’s annoying when people say Yutamaki makes more sense than Nobamaki. Like… that is a “how” question.

As for Itakugi, for me… I’m really sorry, I just love their friendship the way they are. I recently read a post that shares the same feeling as me and it’s like a breath of fresh air at the fact we see a boy and girl being freaking FRIENDS. I’m not saying that they don’t have chemistry, but I don’t think it’s to a point where it’s romantic. But hey we are only in chapter 152.

However, I still wouldn’t shit on someone for liking them. That is totally their choice and preference and if you got reason then awesome! You can ship “m|f” ships all you want, I mean so do I! I love it when I like “m|f” ships because I actually see development and chemistry! But again…. People who ships heteroships don’t get the same amount of hate that people who ships LGBTQIA ships.

This is all I have to say… I’m really sorry if I attacked anyone or you get mad because of how I explained things. I don’t mean to be an asshole I just want everyone to get along regardless of ships. But this is what I’ve seen! Other people might see different and please by all means correct me!

i usually shift everyday once or twice but sometimes only every second or third day. for me it's like five minutes here are like 20 or 30 minutes there but i know it's different for a lot of ppl. i shift pretty often cuz irl only my best friend knows abt my gender. i don't feel comfy with outing myself since some family members r really against lgbt+ and whenever i try to explain it to them they don't even wanna understand. i don't want ppl to fight because of me. and when i shift all of them accept and respect me for who i am and it feels so good.

Well yeah. Sad tears i guess. Like I absolutely adore the thought of me and ben being together but oh Jesus here we go again. I dont see any reason as to why anyone would like me. Im sort of the person you stay with a couple months of your life at the most, and then leave because im too much, or just disgusting i guess. I don’t really know. Its so hard for me to see anyone liking me. I mean i like me but i feel like nobody else does. Ive been put in second place so many times in my life, because of my body, or who i am, or what i am. I dont know.

I hate devaluating myself like this because I know in less than a day it’ll go back to me thinking im the best person in the world. But when im alone, or when i realize that im alone I can’t help but feel this way.

Like., why would anyone like me when im like this? When there’s so many other people out there who are probably better than me. Ill never be the best at anything.

And i hate the thought of falling deeper in love because what then? What if i do end up falling for him so hard that being alone would kill me. And when he abandons me, because everybody eventually does. What happens then.

Fuck i hate my life so bad. It’s like I can never be happy and I try to tell myself that I do deserve happiness, especially after what ive gone through but then every time i think im getting happy it stops.

I want to love him so bad. But why, why would anyone ever love me?

I’m a big fan of 80s/90s anime and Ranma 1/2 played a big role in my childhood. The premise has sooooo much food for thought when it comes to looking at gender and specifically the performance of gender. I’m about to get INTO it, so, here’s your warning-- read more is a ramble. (LONG ramble)

Oh ho ho ho! WELCOME TO MY HELL!

Aight, so let me set the stage for you-->

Two people, who should not be parents, have a kid. The father, Genma, a fairly successful martial artist, takes their just-born son on a training journey without consulting the mother. By training journey, I mean that they travel all over the world with little to no money, either stealing from or scamming people in order to make sure they can eat, under the guise of training the son, Ranma, to become the greatest martial artist of the “Anything Goes” school of martial arts. One of the most frequent scams the father pulls is promising his son’s hand in marriage to various families in exchange for a dowry before running off with both his son and the dowry, never to be seen again. This-- inevitably-- comes back to bite them in the ass. But more on that later.

We don’t get to see a lot of Ranma’s childhood on the training journey, just the occasional incredibly horrific flashback to something that would become a national incident were it to happen in the real world. For example, at one point in time, his father finds a Chinese pamphlet of an ~ancient lost Chinese art~ that is INCREDIBLY POWERFUL!!!!! wow! It’s called Neko-ken. So he decides to teach his six-year-old this technique, although he can’t actually read Chinese so he does it based off the diagrams-- which detail a process of collecting a good number of cats, starving them for a few days straight, and then tossing his son, covered in fish sausages (possibly tied up, can’t remember), into the pit to fend for himself (and not be eaten alive) for hours on end. Surprise, surprise, Ranma comes out incredibly traumatized and with an intense fear of cats (something his father would’ve seen coming if he was able to read Chinese as the pamphlet says that someone would have to be crazy to try to teach someone this technique and that it causes severe psychological damage-- also could’ve been avoided if his father had any common sense or fatherly instincts, but hey that’s just asking too much of Genma). This is not the result his father wanted, so he tries to “fix” it by doing the exact same thing multiple times, just with different cat foods wrapped around his son because... I genuinely don’t know what his thought process was but yeah. So that’s just a tiny snapshot of what his childhood was like as well as how much of a massive idiot his father was. And since Ranma never interacted with his mother, guess who had the greatest influence in his development (yay........). (save him) (also this is based off my memory from watching the anime YEARS ago, so some small details might be wrong but the big, overarching “his dad is a terrible person” thing is still very much true even if some of these smaller details aren’t)

When Ranma is a teenager, his father brings him to a Chinese training ground full of cursed springs. The tour guide repeatedly tries to explain what exactly this place they’re visiting is, but the father and son pair are two hard-headed idiots and get right to sparring. Ranma knocks his father into a spring pretty quick only to be caught off guard when his father reemerges from said spring as a panda and grand slams our protagonist into another one of the cursed springs. Our manly man martial artist protagonist emerges from this spring as a dainty, busty teenage girl. /The horror./ The panic from both Ranma and his father’s deeply shaken fragile masculinities gives the tour guide enough time to reveal that they had fallen into the cursed springs of the drowned panda and the drowned girl (one guess who fell into which one) and that anyone who falls into a cursed spring will take on the form of the life form that drowned in it. They can return to their original bodies by being splashed with hot water but, from now on, every time they’re hit with cold (or even apparently lukewarm) water, they’ll change into these new cursed forms.

Now, I’m sure you all saw this coming from the type of man that Ranma’s father is based on everything I’ve said so far, but Genma is the worst(TM). So Genma is all, “no SON of MINE can be a GIRL! >:((((((” and Ranma, who has been raised for his entire conscious life by this man, and only this man, is also very much not Okay(TM) with this because he’s a man, a manly fighting man who was raised to be the manliest of fighting men who fight. He can’t be a GIRL.

Except he totally can. Because these two start taking advantage of Ranma’s feminine body pretty much immediately in order to continue running scams so that they can eat and whatnot while traveling. Of course, Genma constantly shames Ranma by saying things like, “I can’t believe my son is such a failure of a martial artist, being a girl! I’m so ashamed!” and whatnot at every opportunity but especially when they are in an argument and Ranma is winning or if he needs Ranma to do something for him. He frequently manipulates his son by using this kind of guilt-tripping language as though it’s Ranma’s fault that his body is like this. Nevermind that they both frequently profit off of Ranma’s female body for scams, Genma still puts Ranma down for having it and Ranma internalizes that because he’s 15 and his father is the only person he’s ever known.

And I’m sure we all hate Genma now, as we should, because fuck Genma. What kind of woman would ever marry Genma? (And we assume a woman is married to Genma because how could a man this bigoted do anything other than marry a woman all traditional and whatnot). If only Ranma wasn’t taken from his mother so young. Maybe he would’ve turned out a better person~ Well, uh, bad news, lads :/ So, by the time we meet Ranma’s mom in the series, we’ve known most of these characters for a chunk of time. It’s already quite well established how terrible of a human being Genma is. Ranma may or may not have started the episode out admitting he doesn’t know much about his mom after being asked about her. A standard set-up. I don’t quite remember all the details of the episode, only the important things-- here’s the important thing: Genma’s wife, Nodoka, made Genma swear something to her before he took their toddler on a training journey all around the world. He had to raise Ranma to become “a Man among Men” (and we’ll talk about how she defines manliness) and, if he failed, then both he and Ranma must commit seppuku.

Yeah, that's right.

If her son isn’t enough of a man by her standards then he has to commit ritual suicide.

Her son who now transforms into a girl every time he is touched with at least a ladle’s worth water that isn’t steaming.

(hey have i mentioned save Ranma yet? save him seriously)

Her definition of manliness? All the shit the misandrists of tumblr swear is the inherent evils to all men. She thinks her son needs to be unapologetically forceful in /all/ he does. Especially in his romantic forays :///// (yeah this is going where you think it is)

When she does decide he isn’t manly enough (because Ranma was being sexually harassed by an old man who forcibly put him in a sailor outfit, no im not kidding, happosai, said old man, is a whole other element of the show that like holy shit) and tries to get him to commit seppuku, the solution the cast comes up with is to have Ranma “peek” at (his friend? girlfriend? fiance? frenemy? roommate? it’s weird-- technically they’re the two romantic leads but their chemistry is like -5 because she constantly physically hits him for things that really aren’t his fault and just ://) Akane while she is bathing and that will prove his manliness to his mother so that he doesn’t have to literally die. Will having Ranma be a fucking voyeur prove his manliness to his mother, you ask? Yep. This is Manly(TM) and so Ranma gets to live another day. Yay. Once again, molestation saves the day. (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) All of this is played off as a joke, for the record. No character is really acknowledged as being “a bad person” for any of this behavior-- not molester Happosai, not trying-to-kill-her-own-child Nodoka, etc.

So these are the people who made Ranma. Who shaped this kid with the ability to spontaneously switch between male and female bodies (presuming he has water on hand). Also, obviously, Genma had more influence seeing as Ranma never saw his mother between the ages of two and (I think) 16(?), but. regardless, these are the people who shaped his understanding of gender. For all intents and purposes, our lad should be such a pressure cooker of toxic and fragile masculinity that he just about commits seppuku himself every time he ends up in his female body.

But he doesn’t. In fact, Ranma is largely comfortable in his female body as long as his father isn’t trying to hold said body against him (wait did that come out wrong?). Ranma has no hesitations taking on his female form for something as little as a discount on ice cream. He makes the statement, “when it comes to eating out, being a girl is the only way to go”-- because he’s able to get an extra scoop for being “cute”

There’s a scene very early on in the series about exactly that which has always stuck with me. It opens with Ranma in his female body at a cafe with Akane and they both order fancy ice cream parfaits. Ranma is extremely excited and exclaims, “I’ve always wanted to try one of these!”

Akane replies with, “don’t tell me you’ve never had ice cream before.”

And Ranma proceeds to explain that he’s never had ice cream like /this/ because it would be too embarrassing for a guy. When Akane asks if he isn’t embarrassed now, happily shoving huge spoonfuls of ice cream into his mouth, he responds with, “hey, I’m a girl now. It don’t count.” Akanes shoots back with a “REAL girls don’t eat like that” (because our lad is eating with such gusto-- he’s living, he’s thriving, he is demolishing that parfait and there is ice cream all over his face)

He goes, “I’ll eat it however I want.” And then finishes the whole thing off and proclaims that he wants to order the chocolate one next.

Moments like that were the ones where I loved the show the most. We can see Ranma’s insecurities about his masculinity (thank you /soo/ much for that genma) in that he isn’t willing to perform an ‘unmanly’ action in public in his male body. He can’t be *seen* eating girly ice cream. But when he is admonished for not living up to feminine standards in his female body (eat more daintily), he just goes, ‘i’ll do what i want’. Young me really resonated with that, being born with a female assigned at birth body and growing up in Texas.

It feels like there’s a trans narrative buried in the steaming hot mess that is this work by Takahashi Rumiko-- and it is abundantly clear that was never her intention so I wouldn’t exactly recommend trying to give her an award or anything. She said that she wanted to write a work with a male main character but was so worried about how many male readers she had, she made the decision to make (as she described) a half-male half-female main character (essentially so she could have her cake and eat it too if you will-- all the self aggrandizing fantasies of a male protagonist her male readers could imagine themselves as along with a copious amount of fan service-- the great majority of which was at Ranma’s unwilling expense in his female body which like ://////// (remember that old man I mentioned before??)-- with the female protagonist body). And, like, I’m not saying Takahashi Rumiko is a terrible person or anything-- I don’t know what her beliefs are, I only know her works which are quite old at this point. Takahashi Rumiko is a big deal in the mangaka world because she was one of the first big shonen mangakas who was openly a woman. Normally, men wrote shounen (which literally translates to boys) manga and women wrote shoujo (which literally translates to girls) manga-- the genres were literally divided along gender lines in terms of their intended audiences but also, to a certain extent, their creators. If a woman wanted to write/draw shounen, usually she had to use a pen name that sounded fairly masculine in order to not impact the perception of her work. Takahashi Rumiko was working in that environment so I would understand why she’d want to be careful but, at the same time, I still kind of hate a lot of the things that she normalizes in her works. Especially assault. Both physical and sexual assault she constantly used as a punchline. Not as much anymore. Her most recent work I’ve read was Rinne and the punchline with that one was that the male lead is super poor, literally penniless, and is constantly starving so hahahahha humor amirite? Pain being funny seems to be her through line now that assault is off the table. At least he isn’t constantly getting whole ass tables thrown at him by his love interest as though that’s supposed to be a cute relationship dynamic (Akaneeeeeeeee). I digress. Takahashi Rumiko’s works played a big fucking role in my childhood from Ranma to Inuyasha to Lum (which I encountered well into my teens and therefore didn’t jive with at all because I’d finally learned sexual assault =/= funny and this was one of her more dated works) and so on and just-- I don’t know if I can watch her older stuff the same way I used to. I’m scared to try, honestly. Because some of the ideas behind her works are so interesting-- like Ranma 1/2-- but then you have to sit through episode after episode of a teenage boy in a girl’s body being sexually assaulted by a remorseless old man only to try to fight back at which point he is physically assaulted but also he still has to grovel to and respect said old man because he’s his father’s master and therefore he has to learn martial arts from him but the old man is constantly wagering Ranma having to pose for him in incredibly skimpy outfits if Ranma wants to learn literally anything and alsso RANMA IS FUCKING FIFTEEN/SIXTEEN JESUS CHRIST IS THERE NO FUNCTIONING ADULT ANYWHERE IN THE VVICINITY SAVE HIM!

I NEED TO DIGRESS

It feels like there’s an unintentional trans narrative buried in this anime. It’s not a fun one (but most trans narratives aren’t either so). This is a boy who knows he’s a boy-- even when his body disagrees. He frequently asserts that “he’s a boy” even when in his female body because he is. He’s a boy. He’ll reference being a girl “in appearance” like with the ice cream parfait scene earlier, but when it comes to identity statements, he’s always a boy. This narrative is about him navigating gender presentation and societal assumptions in order to live however he wants. He’s constantly contending with his own forms of gender dysphoria, whether that be his own gripes about doing anything unmanly (eating ice cream) or the very real threat of his mother fucking killing him if he does anything unmanly (aaaaaaaaaaaa), and he navigates tons of threats by choosing how he presents himself.

There are characters that are in love with the male “version” of Ranma and want to kill the female “version” of Ranma (who, for the record, goes by the name Ranko) and vice versa. The Kuno siblings are a great example. Kodachi is in love with Ranma (and is not above literally fucking using date rape drugs on him to get to him) and wants to fucking kill Ranko whereas Tatewaki Kuno, her brother, is in love with Ranko (the lovely pigtailed girl, he calls her) and has literally sent assassins after Ranma. Ranma essentially has to choose between being sexually assaulted or physically assaulted every time he runs into either of them in terms of what body he is presenting.

I feel like I should let you know, ye who have actually read this far, that Ranma is able to protect himself pretty well from the assault. Like, our boy ain’t dead. Later on he literally fucking kills a god because he’s really passionate about martial arts so he puts all of himself into it and god damnit does his effort show but, honestly, his ability to protect himself shouldn’t mean that it is okay to assault him. Assault is assault. And just because he can fight back doesn’t mean he always does. Akane, his main love interest, regularly sends him through roofs and across town with the force of her Up + B (aka magically appearing hammer), usually for things that aren’t his fault in any way. Akane actually came to the conclusion that Ranma was a pervert when she (fully dressed) walked in on him (naked because he was in the bath) even though the bathroom was obviously occupied. She constantly gets mad at him for things that are beyond his control and then takes her frustrations out on him by literally beating him up and he never fights back-- which is admirable of him but also made me never want to root for their relationship because that isn’t a red flag, my dude, that’s a red planet. the whole of mars is out here trying to warn everyone that this relationship is the most toxic thing since RoundUp.)

Usually, when watching a show, you get really invested in the character’s aspirations. You want them to ‘get the girl’, ‘get the promotion’, ‘become the pokemon master’ and whatnot. All I ever wanted for Ranma was for him to fake his own death and run far, far away from everyone who ever knew him as “Ranma”. He’d have to fake his own death, obviously, because otherwise his father and Happosai would track him down because, for his father, Ranma is a walking meal ticket and, for Happosai, Ranma is a teenage girl he can sexually assault at any time. Those two would chase Ranma to the ends of the earth if they thought he was trying to get away from them so--

Ranma. Help him.

There’s so much more to dissect with this show. It’s kind of accidentally a great way to look at gender presentation, especially all the terrible negatives that come with constrained gender roles. I use He/Him pronouns when talking about Ranma because it is abundantly clear that he sees himself as a man and I respect that. Sometimes nonbinary-me is like, but think what a gender-fluid icon our boy would be-- literally switching perceived genders via fluids-- and I think that version of Ranma would be a lot happier than the canon one but, I think the canon Ranma is an important reflection of what a lot of people go through, cisgender, transgender, and beyond, when trying to parse what it means to present a gender and the roles you’re supposed to play.

Maybe Ranma can go on a journey of self-discovery with his own gender after faking his death and escaping Nermina.

I was all over the place writing this but this isn’t an essay and I’m not being graded so ha fuck you (excpet no not really fuck you because you either a) read this whole thing or b)scrolled down to the bottom to see if i’d get to the fucking point already-- which for the record, I don’t really-- and either way it means you were a little curious what I had to say so thanks I guess). None of this is exceptionally well-thought-out. I wouldn’t exactly stamp this with any kind of official gender discourse seal. It’s all just food for thought.

i don’t actually have a favorite ship for him, I’m partial to sinbad/serendine, but that one needs to be planned out well considering how messy and complicated it is. but this is one of the few times i’ve seen sinbad have any possible romantic inclinations towards anyone male or female in canon.

i’m very open for him to be with others, regardless of their gender, the problem is if he can develop romantic feelings, it’s very rare in comparison to physical or intellectual attraction.

Noctis

oh! i’m a complete sucker for promptis, the strong connection between these two is so important. prompto cares for noctis, not because he’s a royal, but just for himself. in one point of the game, noctis explains to prompto how he wises to bring down the walls and accept everyone into his kingdom to make it better along with prompto.

luna of course, that’s a given, she’s a very strong individual, and between the two she probably has the strongest will. although the oracle, i feel like she was more king than noctis was at times, and noctis more than likely would not feel ashamed about that. instead, he’d feel proud, he cares deeply for her.

ignis, oh sweet ignis, if anyone else besides prompto who has seen noctis at his worst and at his best-- it’s this man. i am w e a k for this ship, of course, when i say ship i mean platonic or romantic, and that goes for ALL of my ships. i like their dynamic, how ignis keeps noctis centered, and how noctis can pull him into doing silly or fun things. and the man’s puns, they’re gold l ol

gladio, listen, this ship is underrated and underappreciated both as friends or more. i like the idea of them not just being workout buddies, well, as much as noctis can work out lol. he’s not weak, but he’s not strong as gladio. anyway, i like the idea of them just chilling together, like maybe gladio introduces him to new books, bc he’s such a bookworm, or even read out loud to him. this ship has the potential to be soft and i feel like that should be explored more.

Shuichi

kokichi, i like this ship pregame or ingame, and postgame. my postgame verse consists of it actually being a VR so that opens a fair amount of possibilities. i think, overall, they do complement each other well, tbh, is kaito and maki weren’t so hard on “don’t like to kokichi”, i think shuichi could have connected with him moreso or tried to understand him more. it’s just a fun dynamic.

kaede, this is classic, i feel, romantic or platonic, she’s bright and sure of herself and that’s something shuichi needs either in or out of the game. while i’m away that pregame kaede is not the same, she still has a stronger will than him, and i think it could give some balance.

kaito, specifically ingame or postgame,

Ayato

shipping with ayato is difficult to being with, mainly due to how he perceives people and his own personality. he behaves more now, but he still has that uneasy feeling around humans that potentially makes it awkward. this is stronger the younger he is, generally i rp him during his 18-20 ish time. still, im open to plotting with him in the regard and crossovers, even ocs, it doesn’t need to be canon.

Judar

i thought ayato was difficult, this guy here is even more prickly, maybe, not i lied. anyway, i don’t have a super favorite for him in particular, if they click then they click. i do like hakuryuu, kougyoku, and a couple others, but generally-- chemistry is needed for this pesky child.

Barry Allen

iris west, like they fit each other, iris and barry are that couple, so it’s kinda of hard to not like this ship. lol

leonard snart, a true weakness, barry and len are married in one of my verses so that goes to show how much i like this ship lol.

Kougyoku

judar, idk why-- it just makes me smile at the idea for some reason. maybe i’m weird. this can also be seen as platonic, like all my ships, im good with just platonic or even antagonistic relationships.

aladdin- eh, only when he’s older, mainly because it seems like he’s genuinely interested in him. but like not high on my list.

alibaba-- i love, love their friendship okay? someone feed me this lovely duo

favorite canon / fandom ship: well joel isn’t actually canon (i cry about it every night) so i can’t say i have any for him yet besides maybe some of the ships that’ve been discussed with friends. for the fandom itself i do ship goldenbridges or rather i ship my narrative of how i see that ship playing out, also goldenmemories (higgsxfragile), and I definitely ship them all as an ot3, I feel like i lowkey ship sam to an extent with almost everyone minus some obvious notps, i ship junk and chiral with marriage counselling, higgs with pizza, sam with rest, amelie with a fucking BREAK or maybe an esc/restart button on her LIFE

opinion on true love: hmm--- i don’t see joel being the type of person to completely write it off but i don’t see him actively believing in it’s existence. that could just be because of his own experience with love. he hasn’t experienced romantic love for himself but when people talk about true love to him it’s always come off like some sort of fairytale concept, like its some sparkly unicorn idealistic thing that only happens to a handful of lucky assholes willing to wait or spend all their time looking for it. the concept itself isn’t at all attractive to joel. whatever love may actually be it’s joel’s perogative that it’s different for every couple, layered, built... people can have their fairytales, he prefers the real thing regardless of how unpretty that may look like.

opinion on love at first sight: again, he’s sure some people might experience SOMETHING upon first sight but you can’t make him believe it’s love.

how ‘romantic’ are they?: hmm probably less so then what most people would want but maybe a little more so then most would intially think? joel doesn’t have much in the way of experience here other then what he recalls of his parents & their relationship, how they tended to ‘flirt’ with eachother, show love, show affection. it’s not something that i think he does a lot of so much as he does what feels natural to him, and does so perhaps in subtle ways, in quality time, acts of service. give him time though, watch him learn, and perhaps that side of him will grow.

ideal physical traits: he really doesn’t have a preference, it’s not what he notices about people.

ideal personality traits: honesty. facades are things that joel sees through with ease and if he has low patience for anything is bullshit and liars. loyalty. wit/intelligence. don’t gotta be a genuis to get his attention but the lad needs someone he finds intellectually stimulating, needs someone he can talk to on his level, anyone who can make him laugh, banter with him, do deep conversation is someone he could be interested in. grit, nerve, backbone, spirit-- call it whatever the hell you want but anyone who wants to be able to keep up with joel better have some cause he’s got it in spades and it’s a quality he does look for in others. empathy. he doesn’t need someone to be a bleeding heart but he needs someone capable of feeling for people, of understanding where he comes from. self-confidence. independence. joel isn’t the type to be up anyone’s ass all day and expects the same from partners. he needs some amount of time to himself so he does look for that in others.

unattractive physical traits: probably anything that indicates someone doesn’t take good care of themselves be it diet or exercise or hygeine. he doesn’t care if someone looks like a model but someone who looks like they dont care about their phyiscal health as opposed to their appearence is gonna be unnatractive to him. he definitely understands depression and lack of energy having a huge say in this v thing and as long as he’s aware of the person enough to know this about him he’s also pretty lenient in this way to even if he’ll still be concerned for their well-being.

unattractive personality traits: pushover types, drama kings/queens, shallow types, selfishness, being mean-spirited, prone to abuse and use of those around them, lack of empathy, eletism, traitorous or manipulative types, dishonest, ingenuine, materialistic, stupidity, cowardice, flaky, pretentiousness, whiney, hypocrisy, laziness, hateful.

ideal date: to be honest anything that results in some quality time spent is aces in his book be it maybe walk or hike somewhere, a ride, or a drive together, or just time spent together at his place, their place, or his garage even. so long as they’re doing something or together somewhere they’re both comfortable and able to enjoy the other’s company he’ll be happy.

do they have a type?: not really? i suppose he likes people similar to himself? that he can find a level of compatibility with without being so similar that their company is boring. someone that’s capable, reliable. that he can trust. someone he can talk with, can handle him when he’s not holding back verbally emotionally or physically. someone he can talk to but is comfortable with his introvertedness. joel can be social if need be but he NEEDS time to himself and is most comfortable in his own company so i feel like he’d appreciate someone who doesn’t mind that and who he can be alone with comfortably without feeling drained for it. someone who calls him out on his bullshit when they see it. he likes people who speak their mind and can match him in snark to. someone who can match him in a rare bout of spontaneity, keep him on his toes. someone compatible enough there is chemistry but not so much that they’re boring and different enough they challenge him in healthy ways and offer opportunities for him to grow as a person and vice versa.

average relationship length: he’s never really been in a relationship but I feel like if someone managed to catch his interest and put in the work and effort with him to build something that can be termed a relationship then---, it’d last probably as long as it was something they both wanted and were comfortable with.

preferred non-sexual intimacy: listen--- joel’s primary love language is quality time. so long as he can be with them, share space, share thoughts. that’s intimate in itself. more meaningful to him. now if we’re talking physical intimacy-- probably anything that involves touching their hair or their hands. there is something incredibly intimate about both acts with the right person, the right moment.

commitment level: yeah once joel is a part of someone’s life he’s basically a part of it forever even if he’s no longer WITH them in that sense. it takes a lot to get him to a place where he can no longer bare to be with someone or be in their life in any capacity. he’s nothing if not loyal and he’s not prone to giving up on people at all much less those he cares deeply about. if someone breaks his heart however, shatters his trust in them... yeah.

opinion of public affection: can’t say it effects him much seeing it from other people or couples but he’s probably not one to engage in it himself beyond what could be considered platonic gestures. i wouldn’t call joel shy really but he does prefer privacy when it comes to showing his affections. you won’t get him hanging all over you but a stolen kiss or two, hugs, holding hands, if you’re into that he won’t stop you, he’ll likely enjoy it. pushing for more beyond that outside of a very specific mood is probably gonna get you teased for being impatient.

past relationships?: he’s never really had anything he’d call a romantic relationship. he’s had 1 or 2 rare romantic encounters. but neither of them developed into anything serious enough to call them a relationship. aside from his family he has a few friends, clients, aquatiences.

This blog is a selective roleplay blog coming to you all the way from Germany. What I’m trying to point out here is, that I interact with my mutuals only. You can become a mutual by following me and waiting for me to follow back. If I don’t follow back within 14 days, then I most likely won’t at all. Reasons for that can differ but the main reason is probably that I don’t see our muses interact. Don’t take this personal, we all have different tastes and that is completely fine. Once we are mutuals, please feel invited to send me memes, starters and appear in my IMs at any times. In return, once we are mutuals, you can expect that I will try to reach you through your IMs to ask about our first interaction. This is a simple preference of mine as it makes me nervous to just send a meme as an icebreaker or set up a random starter with the hope that you’ll reply. Also, I am not my muse. Because of that I am sure that my portrayal of her may not be 100% accurate however, I try to stay as close to the things we know about her as possible.

Next, I am a multi-shipper. This means that I don’t believe in exclusive ships and that there is no limit to how many different blogs of the same muse I will interact with. I am critical of them. If you: use a porn actress/actor as your face claim, I am not interested. For me, it is easier to understand your character should you have a description/bio of it on your blog. It increases the chance of me being interested in and following you. If you don’t have this, I won’t be able to know what your character is all about which is just a reason for me to stay away. I will have to assume that you didn’t really plan anything for your character. Please note, I know this sounds extremely critical but it is solely a rule so I stay motivated to reply to our thread. If I don’t get the character you created, then I am less likely to reply frequently and I would not want to do that to you. I’m highly interested in meeting OC’s however if I don’t see our muses interact, that’s just that.

When it comes to characters from other shows, movies or books, I am open to interacting. In fact, I love putting Blair in other universes too to explore her character from other perspectives. If none of my verses fit your universe, don’t worry about it. I’m sure we can establish a verse together that pleases the both of us. i’m a stranger to many of my followers on here. i’d like to change that. so i guess here’s a bit about me!!

my name is Nicolina. most people know me as Nicky. im 18 years old, 5’10” and i’ve got a whole head full of long, dark brown curly hair. i identify as a female demisexual. i will be attending University of Michigan - Dearborn, pursuing a major in chemistry and hopefully a minor in psychology. i plan on going to medical school, specializing in pediatric medicine. i currently work at a local supermarket as a bagger.

both my parents are iraqi immigrants. my family is chaldeans. for those who don’t know, the chaldeans were one of the first five mesopotamian settlements before the babylonians came. yes indeed, my culture is ancient. i also speak chaldean fluently. yup, i speak a dead language. it doesn’t get any better than that.

although i am not the most religious person, i am spiritual and believe in God. i’m an egalitarian, all men and women are created equally regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, beliefs, etc.

i’m a big sister, the oldest of 6 annoyingly adorable children. i lost my younger brother about 6 years ago. he passed away a few days after he was born. my whole life is dedicated to him because he’s the only reason i’m breathing today.

i struggle quite a bit with mental health. after my brother passed, i was diagnosed with EDNOS(Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified). a few years ago i was very depressed and suicidal. i have been a victim of physical abuse my entire life. i have a lot of anxiety and self confidence issues. but overall i’ve gotten better at managing and i’m still working on loving myself.

i believe in love and second and third and fourth chances. i believe that every one is beautiful in their own special way. my goal in life is to make people smile and to save all the children in the world from suffering. i love laughter and sunshine and warm hugs. i’m a coffee addict and proud. i love reading and adore music. i love flowers and keep them in my favorite copy of classic literature: John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath.

WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO RP WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING?: Nearly anything goes, assuming I know and am comfortable with the other writer. I am perfectly happy to write unhappy or mutually toxic relationships, manipulative stuff, dark stuff, etc. If and only if I trust my writing partner and know them quite well. And idk... smut is fine, poly ships, platonic or queerplatonic ships, f/f, m/f, nonbinary/f, whatever. I love exploring different dynamics.

Generally, though, I like Berúthiel with elves, because she has some prejudices to get over for it. Thranduil, Celegorm, Maglor... some nice proud flawed ancient sorts. I’d like to address the following: Stop reducing Jalec to labels such as racism, incest or abuse. First of all, just because 1 of every 100 jalec shippers criticizes Magnus for his ethnicity doesn’t mean all shippers do. Second of all, almost all jalec shippers ship malec, so no one criticises EVER at Magnus. Third: most jalec shippers ship jalec as a mid-ship, i.e. a ship that should have happened BEFORE their respective endgames so to solve issues and close cycles.

Fourth: it isn’t incest. Yes, a Herondale married a Lightwood in the 1800s, but the connecting genes are more deluded than anything. Yes, Maryse and Robert took Jace in but they NEVER treated Jace as their own son (bookwise and showwise), Jace was taken like a child they took in, was he loved? Yes. Did Jace see them as family? No. Jace doesn’t understand the concept of family much until he faces it through Clary, and showwise, once Alec yells at him to tell him they are his family. Jace said to Clary “they are like my brother and sister”. LIKE not an absolute. And it is his way of telling Clary Izzy and I are nothing and I’m single ;). One Alec’s side it is the fucking same, it isn’t until that moment that he switches the chip. He never saw Jace as a brother, his guilt wasn’t because he wa his brother it was because a) he was a man and b) he was his parabatai and best friend. He felt the guilt that comes with falling in love with someone of your own gender, as those who have experience this know. IT isn’t an easy moment, you find yourself not fitting what the overall community tells you it’s normal (for a boy to like girls, for a girl to like boys). His feelings for Jace are a sexuality struggle, not a familiar one.

Yes, they’re calling each other brothers now. Now that they’ve moved on Jace has moved on with the idea of his father as his only family. He’s assumed the Lightwoods are the closest he’s had to a family, and he’s finally seeing it now. But remember one thing: when two people are together, the family of your loved one is also your family. And Alec is calling Jace brother because he’s finally moving on (and because his mother, Maryse, who took him in, acted as if she had turned her back on him), moving on what he feels for Jace which isn’t yet erased regardless of Magnus (first episode, parabatai lost, Malec date to point out minor points where his feelings for Jace were addressed).

That doesn’t mean they completely see each other as siblings. And more importnatly: it doesn’t erase that there was a moment where they didn’t. Where Alec who first saw Jace as a kid, had already made hearteyes at him. It was then when he developed his crush for him. He fell in love later, but he already liked Jace as more than a friend when he was 12 and Jace 11 (which let me remind you, that’s not childhood but the beginning of teenage for boys and when feelings begin to develop).

Just because Alec is with Magnus, Jace wo’t stop being Alec’s first love. Just because they’ve moved on CANONLY with their feelings (apparently, at least, since EVERYONE minimally logical accepts Alec still has feelings for Jace) doesn’t erase whath appened before. And Jalec shippers, WE ship Jalec:

Platonically: Always, never going to stop. They love each other in a deeper way than romantic love or familiar love. They’re parabatai. That will never cease, even in death, they’ll be ruined at the lose of the other. No matter how much you butthurts try to erase this.

Romantically: Season 1 and before. And in all those settings where fics are done, where rps are done, the romantic feelings were reciprocate and thus they actually developed a relationship. Or those aus in which Magnus and Alec break up (like it’s going to happen because their break up is canon) and Alec solves his feelings for Jace and they are however briefly and try out because AUs are to be experienced and experimented

As well as Malec, Clace, Sizzy, and basically every relationship there, since abuse is part of the teen atmosphere of all those relationships in the books. But not showwise. And most of Jalec shippers are show shippers. Because the show and Dom and Matt made it that wy. Because Dom and Matt’s chemistry is extremely good and undeniable, and for once, TWO MALE ACTORS AND TWO MALE CHARACTERS CAN BE SHIPPED BECAUSE THEIR SEXUALITIES MATCH (Jace might identify as straight, but he’s just as bisexual as Magnus is and no matter how much you fight it, it is the truth, and ending with Clary doesn’t erase that possiblity, no straight man on earth mentions homoerotism like he does to Simon after the biting, no straight man on earth feels offended because he’s not seen like the prettiest by another male, and no straight man looks at Simon Lewis the way he does). FOR YEARS I’VE SEEN CLEAR STRAIGHT CHARACTERS BEING SHIPPED JUST BECAUSE OF THE CHEMISTRY OF THEIR ACTORS, AND THERE WAS NO WAY OF JUSTIFYING IT SO PEOPLE KEPT CREATING AND MAKING UP HEADCANONS, BUT JALEC HAS ALL THE CHANCES TO HAVE EVER HAPPENED IF ONLY CC WASN’T SO ANTI-LGBTA (”but she has gay ships and ...”Yes, she does, and she had them out of presence the moment they got together, we never saw Magnus and Alec, it was all secret escapes, and when they kissed publically she had them leaving on vacation so to have them out, and on the new books i’m seeing the exact same thing except maybe with a bit more fanservice so showing them more not to mention all those rumors that say she’s planning on killing Alec).

AGAIN: If you don’t ship Jalec is fine. If you don’t ship Malec is fine (weird, but fine). what isn’t fine is telling people to not ship things that are respectful in the way they ship it. Yes, again, some aren’t. Some Malec shippers are really disrespectful towards any other shipper (such as Clace shippers when it doesn’t affect Malec). Some Jalec shippers are really disrespectful towards Malec ones. But not all.

Shipwars begin with you take the voice of those that want to fight. Most shippers don’t want shipwars. Most shippers want respect and peace and most shippers don’t have a ship, they have an ARMADA. I have one. I ship Malec, I ship Jalec, I ship Clace, I basically ship everything on that show romantically (specifically talking about the show now) but Alec and Clary and Izzy and Jace (and well, a few more, like Luke and Clary or Magnus and Clary, I can’t ship those for many many reasons but hey if you do *shrugs* i don’t mind).

So, really, let people ship what they want. You don’t like Jalec? Then don’t check the tag. Blacklist it, ignore it. Like everyone does. This place is filled with teenagers and adults alike, and sometimes, Adults behave more like teenagers than the teens do. So, seriously: you don’t like it, you don’t check it. That’s all.

Stop attacking. Stop insulting. Stop calling shippers sick for shipping something you don’t approve.

P.S. If you’re going to comment on how it is incest, again, seriously, check the character’s point of view and not YOURS, that i the most important aspect, check the character’s point of view. And if you still think it is incest, well, let me tell you one thing: incest isn’t as bad as it is painted, it’s just a morality topic, a topic that was brought as negative in the fight of classes as it was what high classes used to keep their money just like celibacy in church appeared only to protect the church’s patrimony and not as part of any religious call.
