since everyone in public health is dead at the wheel, you should know: monkeypox has a r0 value of about 2 (omicron BA2 and measles are both near 12, which is about the maximum we know of, until we get clearer data on BA4/5 next month).
r0 value is number of likely infections per patient, so that also means monkeypox infections will likely double until it reaches peak infection. this could be a million people by the end of the year because it is 400 now (in the US).
it is aerosol and fomite transmissible. fomite viral particles survive in the environment for two months.
vaccination is currently available only for confirmed cases, and we will likely only be able to produce a million doses by end of year. they will likely not be distributed to the most at-risk people. this will likely not be enough to prevent widespread infection. i might recommend seeking testing in absence of symptoms, to catch any asymptomatic infections.
anyone born before 1980 is likely to already be vaccinated for it (smallpox vaccination seems to remain 85% effective with no waning, although the new vaccine recommended is jynneos and healthcare providers are hesistant to offer the older vaccine because it scars the injection site). if you're 40+ it might be a good time to get into volunteer outreach or hospice care.
it may have a fatality rate between 1-10%, more likely 1-3%, this is affected by factors like overall immune vulnerability, nutrition, and heatlh. severe progression is characterized by nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, and other systematic-failure indicators. the virus had already mutated substantially by the time it was detected, so this may be an indicator that there are far more unknown, mild cases (i.e. bringing the fatality rate down substatially, one would hope.)
it is distinguishable from chickenpox because the sores progress at the same rate, while in chickenpox each sore may be at different stages. any healthcare provider or sexual health clinic will likely be able to test for both. now is not the time to ignore symptoms. petechiae are also a post-covid associated sequala, i believe they also progress at different rates like chickenpox but i'm not sure if there's a clear clinical definition of covid sores yet. it's also possible these represent undetected pox cases. it was likely circulating as early as april.
monkeypox infection may cause as a few as one sore, which scabs and then peels. debridement or exfoliation is not recommended, precisely because viral particles can survive for two months, although it's believed to stop being transmissible after the first layer of skin heals. vitamin A is recommended during recovery, ideally from nutritionally dense foods.
chickenpox can also cause facial paralysis. hepatitis-associated liver failure in children has been essentially confirmed as a post-covid sequela (adenovirus was ruled out as a cause of hepatitis, if you heard about that, although it is also still endemic). dysentery, cholera, and polio are back. between 10-30% of covid patients are now likely immunocompromised from long covid, although severe cases are less than 10%.
our failure to manage this has damaged the collective immune imprint, things that used to be rare or eradicated can now gain a foothold much more easily. this will keep happening until we end capitalism, we didn't have to live with influenza or salmonella either, and they make bank off the 1.3m deaths of heart disease and cancer every year too.
correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure everything except that last part is stated in this PDF. also had to look up the r0 value separately, i don't think that's in there

🥀Zestial Doodles🥀
Tumblr media
tumblr why do u keep fucking with the quality urghhh- hes so pookie bear coded i love him sm-
ANYWAAAAYSSS i could yap about zestial for hours so here are some of my hcs (esp for his human form/life) below:
starting off strong, i hc that he has a very narrow upper palette in his mouth, which is why in death his mouth looks all crooked. while we don't know much about zestial, we do know he's old af and obviously dentists weren't really around in his era, so he pretty much lived with the narrow palette his entire life (tootalluyyy not projecting)
he also has a naturally crooked smile + teeth, and heavy dimples
back when he was alive, he had a high social status/class and was a relatively wealthy noble. he worked his way up from the bottom through making deals and earning favors, which attributed to his cunning nature
zestial was a serial killer, and would attack anyone who wronged him or disobeyed him. because he was so intelligent, his victims would often disappear quickly and quietly with no evidence tying back to him.
zestial was diagnosed with porphyria at a young age, which is a blood disease that is related to your liver and bone marrow, and the overall production of a certain hemoglobin that assists your blood in transporting oxygen around the body. porphyria can cause pale skin, receding gums, and other vampire-like traits which caused many around him to become suspicious and begin starting rumors that he was a vampire
doctors would sometimes prescribe patients in the middle ages with blood diseases to drink animal blood, and when given that prescription, zestial decided to take it a step further and start drinking human blood as well (leading to his spider-like traits in the afterlife, and also adding to the vampire rumors)
eventually he was caught and burned at the stake, leading to his charred skin and lack of features in death
zestial's hair is very curly, but he would slick it back to fit in more with the european standard. he also refused to wear a white wig like most upperclass men, which set him apart in social gatherings
he has heavy eyebags and rarely sleeps, even when he was alive he was much more active at night
zestial was incredibly tall even in life and especially tall for his time period. he would often wear a hat to appear even taller

URGENT! Family with sick infant and grandmother needs help!
I know there are many gofundme posts out there right now. I humbly ask for any kind of donation, any amount, for the family friends of a colleague, Nizar.
On October 18, the Nizar's home was bombed. "Screams came from every direction. Ambulance sirens began to approach our house, and paramedics arrived. We hadn't realized that our house had collapsed on us due to the destruction of the neighboring house. We all woke up to the screams that our beloved granddaughter had died, along with her younger sister and their mother, who was seven months pregnant."
There is an infant suffering from a rare disease causing liver hemorrhage, and a diabetic grandmother.
Their full story is under the cut.
Please please donate, and if you cannot please reblog and send to friends.
Hi this is Nizar,
I am from Gaza. I studied computer science I work as software engineer
I loved every single detail about my work, the tiniest details with my family and all the moments we had in this beloved city. All this fate has changed with everything going on in Gaza. The latest life-changing moment was in October.
On the evening of October 18th, the family gathered for dinner, sharing stories about our displacement from our home in North Gaza to a house in Rafah. Everyone was pondering what we would do the following morning when we woke up safe. However, we did not wake up in the morning; instead, we were awakened in the middle of the night by the rubble surrounding us. Screams came from every direction. Ambulance sirens began to approach our house, and paramedics arrived. We hadn't realized that our house had collapsed on us due to the destruction of the neighboring house. We all woke up to the screams that our beloved granddaughter had died, along with her younger sister and their mother, who was seven months pregnant. The house sheltered the grandfather, his wife, their 8 children, and their 14 grandchildren.
We emerged from the rubble, witnessing a tragic scene that was not familiar to this family, which had dreamt of a brighter future. The reality was hard to believe. It wasn't just the bitterness of separation we experienced but also other difficulties. One of the sisters, who was married, had given birth to Aya, who was diagnosed as a “Collodion baby” at birth. Aya, only four days old, was among those injured and suffered from a rare disease causing liver hemorrhage. She continues to suffer due to the lack of medical facilities needed to confront the challenges posed by this rare disease, which requires significant medical support and medication currently unavailable.
Adding to our worries about Aya, my grandma is also suffering from chronic diseases both diabetes and hypertension which also need medication.
This is just a fraction of our suffering. We lost not only safety but also our homes, living in displacement and famine. The family's breadwinners, who worked in computer engineering, lost their jobs, and the children lost their right to education. My sister Aya had only completed two years of university and now face losing their future educational opportunities.
Will this be the end of the hardships we face? Or are there compassionate hearts willing to help my family live safely?
We as a family decided to create this fundraising to try the last glimpse of hope to have a brighter future for our kids where they can live safely, have education and have any medication needed.
I am aiming to evacuate my family from Gaza to Egypt. The barrier to leaving is the coordination fee, amounting to $5,000 per adult and $2,500 for children which would cost roughly for all of us $62,500
Every donation will benefit a fundraising campaign that contributes to the coordination fees for the family's departure from Gaza to Egypt and the start of a new life. Your generosity, no matter its size, will make a tangible difference in the life of this grieving family."

We're two sisters collaborating on this video serie
@cybermanolol is in charge of the art and the editing 🎨 📽️ and @_chalulu_ is the one doing all the plant research and she's also the voice 📝🗣️
Tumblr media
@_chalulu_ my sources are:
- Le régal végétal by François Couplan
@cybermanolol I've only just started to use gouache, but I quite like it. I think for this painting, I should have started much darker in the background, so lesson learned for next time. But still, I think I caught the delicateness of the flowers (the flowers look a lot like cherry flowers, but the rest of the tree did not)
Choose your harvesting location well:
Do not enter private property and never harvest in a protected area. Also avoid roadsides or polluted sites.
Be sure to correctly identify everything you pick so as not to damage a rare species or poison yourself.
When in doubt, abstain or call someone with the relevant competence.
Harvest plants sparingly, only where they are abundant and never collect too much.
Take only as needed and do not pull out the entire crops.
Wash before eating.
Carefully sort and wash the crop. Be careful, only cooking can prevent certain diseases or parasites such as echinococcosis or liver fluke.

HAHA, nerds! (Working title)
CHAPTER 2
(Bloodweave University au)
AO3 link, link to chapter 1
...
"Ugh, my nail broke! How does that even happen!" Astarion complained to Shadowheart literally immediately as she got into his car.
"I have no clue. I have never seen you work. Ever." She threw her backpack on the backseat and buckled up. "So, your place?"
"Yeah." He pulled out of the parking lot of the comic parlor and drove towards the nearest Wc Deepalds. "What do we order?"
"Fries, bunches. And a milkshake. And ice cream."
"We have ice cream at home."
"It's not the same, I assure you!" Shart said, crossing her arms. "Whatever, It's not like papa Caz is letting you eat any of it."
"Yeah, it's for guests, and you are a guest, so eat the fucking ice cream at home!" Astarion drove a little faster, unintentionally of course, he's a lawyer by trade, he's not a fan of being sued. Not a good look.
"You're unbearable!"
"So are you. But we're friends, so I'll forgive you." Astarion said with no hint of theatrics in his voice. A rare occurrence.
"Likewise."
After a bit of silence they arrived at the drive through and Astarion rolled his window down.
"Welcome to Wc Deepalds, what can I get you?"
"Can I get a ummmmmmm iced coffee and two large fries, annddddd ummmm... Shart what do you want?"
"Ice cream with caramel sauce, an oreo shake and garlic sauce... For the fries." She, of course, crawled into Astarions lap to lean out the window, even though she really didn't need to.
"Alright, is that all?"
"Yes, thank you." The pale elf said, shoving his worstie back into the passanger seat and driving to the next window where they spent a few minutes waiting. "Of course a little goblin like you would know the menu of this... mistakenly popular establishment. I congratulate you on your VIP ticket to heart failure."
"Thank you, I appreciate it." The window opened and Astarion was handed a warm, delicious smelling paper bag of fatty liver disease. He paid with his papa Cazador money and drove away.
Shadowheart said "Gimme that." And took the bag of fast food. She dug right into her ice cream.
"Bon appetit, my friend."
"Thanks."
"Youre very welcome." He took a sip of his coffee.
"Hey what's up with that bearded guy you asked out? D'he text you yet?"
"Yes. About 30 minutes after I left the store. Eager." Astarions apartment is not far from them by now, they can see it in the distance. A sad beige building with several floors full of annoying neighbors.
"You like them when they're enthusiastic, don't you."
"I do, and what about it? I prefer to know that my partners enjoy themselves!"
Shart sighed. "Such a politically correct gentleman you are."
He nearly choked on his coffee trying to speak his next words. "I AM! And beautiful! Not enough people mention that." He parked his car, got out and began marching to the enterance without waiting for his esteemed guest.
She managed, carrying her gym bag and the Wc Deepalds goodies in her hands of holding. Astarion climbed the stairs with her following not far behind, he took out his keychain, which had about a dozen charms and was attached to one of those things that let you put it around your neck.
"Make yourself at home, darling."
"I will." She took her shoes off at the entrance before the pale elf put her head on a stick for it. "So, I was thinking dark makeu-"
"SAVE. IT. FOR. THE. CAMERA." He put his coffee down on the counter.
"Sheesh, okay." She plopped down on the couch. "Ugh, I don't know how long I can take working at that place."
"What was it this time."
"Just the usual neckbeard business. If we banned the customers that 'flirted' with me we'd be going out of business unfortunately. Can I have a drink?"
"But of course, dear." He opened the fridge and poured her a tall glass of delicious orange juice. Yummy.
"I was thinking of a more age restricted substance."
"We can drink after filming."
"Good... You know what, I'm taking a nap, you go ahead and do the camera things."
"Yeah, good idea. Sweet dreams!" She curled up on the couch and began lightly snoring in about 6 minutes. Astarion could never, he has horrible things to remember and he only finds a gap in his schedule for them right before bedtime.
He quietly went to his bedroom to get started setting everything up.
...
"Do you think this one's better?" Asked Gale, showing a picture on his phone to Wyll. "Or this one." He swiped left.
"I'm not sure, they're both very elegant. Is there a specific dress code? Like, a color scheme?" Wyll was not the best person to ask about this sort of thing, but he is the only person Gale was willing to talk to about it.
"I'm not sure, I can ask him tho."
"Do that, but don't tell him about what your outfit will be, trust me he'll love a surprise!" He tried to reassure the wizard with a smile but it went unnoticed, since the man in question was ferociously typing a message to his future husband and possibly father to their children.
The cafeteria was not busy, people are cooped up in their dorms studying and eating takeout. A shame, honestly, they're serving pizza today.
"Oh my weave he texted back!"
"What did he say?"
"Dark colors, preferably, but I won't get kicked out unless I look underdressed."
"Good thing you have no shortage of wizardly robes."
"True that.... I think I'll wear the purple one."
"Robe of summer? Good choice." He said, glass of water in hand. "I'm almost jealous, I do miss balls, but I don't miss the kids of people who attend them."
"Right, I forgot you were once a well coiffed little noblemanlet! You blend right in with the rest of us common folk!" He put his phone in his pocket but right as he was about to forget about it, he received another message. "It's him...."
"What is it about?" Gale read it, and turned a little red.
'It matters to me very little what wrappings are on a gift, all I care about is what's underneath.'
"Well, it could be interpreted in two different ways, I'm not sure what he really meant.." Gale showed his friend the text.
"I think... If you were to take offense to his boldness, he'd say he didn't mean it like that to not make you uncomfortable, but he definitely meant it like that!" He took a bite of his pizza, it's growing cold.
"That's smart." Gale took a deep breath and started typing. He then changed his mind and deleted all the letters, he could do better. He then literally typed out the exact same sentence.
'Well, it's quite impolite to give a gift without wrapping isn't it? Unwrapping is part of the fun!'
"Wyll my heart is pounding, I don't know how people do this whole dating thing casually..."
"I believe in you, you will persevere!"
"I hope you're correct." He got another notification.
"ITS A P-" He realized he was yelling and stopped, he calmly began anew. "He sent me a picture..."
"Open it." Wyll was very invested in this love story that he was merely an observer of. Gale opened the message, it was a picture of a camera setup.
"I was worried it would be a more anatomical image." Said Wyll.
"I doubt he'd do that. He seems more refined." Gale remembered he had pizza so he took a big bite as he thought of something to write. Another message came in the meantime.
'I neglected to mention but I do have an adorable side hustle of doing makeup on youtube~'
'No need, I recognized you.'
'That's cute. But I am going to be quite busy for the next few hours, you go ahead and enjoy your night darling'
'I will, thank you!'
Gale put his phone down. "Dear gods..." He breathed deep. "Wyll I think he put a spell on me!"
"I thought an evocation major would have noticed by now." Wylls pizza was long devoured, so he took to eating the suspiciously healthy looking salad they gave him.
"Or maybe I- He's just- hmmgh..." He bit into his slice of pizza once again. "I don't know, but he did something to me for certain!"
"You know, I think maybe you should worry less about it. He asked you out so he's clearly interested!"
"Stellar advice... I'm going back to dorm. Bye!" He took his tray to the tray receptacle (whatever it may be I hadn't been in a school cafeteria in a while) and dramatically went back to his building.
...
"Shart..." Poke. "Shaaart." Poke. Poke. "Jenevelle Hallowleaf, you wake up immediately or face my fury!"
"It's been at most 3 minutes, stop it!" He kept poking her. "Cease!" She sat up and grabbed Astarion.
"AGH! UNHAND ME YOU BASTARD!" She gave him the full sibling experience and slapped him with his own hand. "Stop hitting me!"
"Stop hitting yourself!" She chuckled and let go of him. He immediately stood up and smoothed his clothes out. "You changed?"
"Surely you didn't think I'd be recording the video in pajamas."
"You're right, going to the street in them was nowhere near as embarrassing." She said, stretching. "Let's get this done, I want to drink already."
"Yes, let's."
...
Gale tried on every fancy wizardly robe he has, the blue one, the yellow one, the other blue one, the purple one, he can't decide. He never even wears these, he's been living in sweats ever since he moved out of his mom's magic tower!
"I think you look quite dashing in this one Mr. Dekarios!"
"I don't feel very dashing." He admitted, looking at himself in the mirror he hexed to float.
"Maybe shaving would help."
"I'm certain it wouldn't. Maybe I ought to brush my hair." He held his hand out and a comb flew to him. He ran it through his glorious mane.
"Wash it." Tara jumped on the desk to see better. "You live like you're invisible, I'm surprised that this Asterion noticed you!"
"Ah-STAR-ion."
"Yes him, he has an eye for fixer uppers." She laid down on his laptop, sprawling out like it was the nicest pillow she ever touched. "Put your earring on too. And cologne!"
"Great idea... When Mystra-"
"I don't want to hear her name from your mouth." She headbutted him. "When is he picking you up?"
"Tomorrow at 8 i think, ill have to check."
"Then you have time until tomorrow to get yourself into shape, you will be fine. OH, why don't you put your hat on?"
"You said it would ruin my hair." He snapped his fingers and it appeared in the air above him.
"Well, I changed my mind, I think it goes very nicely with these robes!"
"Very well." The hat floated down to his head, crowning him the king of rizzards. "It does look good, thank you for the suggestion."
"Great, now that the outfit is decided on, go rest! Tomorrow is a big day."

the liver thing isn't like a disease or a disorder or anything it's just genetic variance and can go either way. it's that guy who needs 2 paracetamol instead of 1, or that absolute bastard who only has to take half a pill
it becomes a Fucking Annoyance when you're far enough away from the bell curve that shit just doesn't work, or doesn't work enough to warrant taking. it is extra a Fucking Annoyance because you will go your whole life wondering why things simply don't affect you whilst doctors repeatedly either accuse you of lying because they don't know it can be a thing, or go through drug after drug after drug all metabolised the same way and which naturally don't work before giving up.
the fact it's considerably more common in people with chronic pain conditions (for reasons), and people with chronic pain being labelled drug seekers, are probably related.
the fact that ultra-rapid metabolisation on typically the most annoying pathway is most common in people from the middle east and... i think north africa? but very rare in white people (without chronic pain) is also for sure something ain't it (actually it's way more common in painless white people to go the other way and need less drugs. 7-10%. if you were wondering. you weren't)

I recently saw this picture of an ABSOLUTE UNIT cottonmouth found in south Georgia:
Tumblr media
And I wanted to know, is it okay for a snake to be that chunky? I really doubt it's a pet snake (considering it's ostensibly a cottonmouth but I'm not willing to unprofessionally ID it), but why is it such a chonk???
I'm about 99% sure this snake is just pregnant! Her spine is still clearly visible and there are no large fat deposits near her tail.
It's harder with snakes like cottonmouths, who are pretty heavy-bodied to begin with, but in an overweight snake we'd be looking for a lack of definition around the spine, folds in the skin, and large fat deposits near the tail.
If she was overweight, that would be a big problem! Obesity is pretty rare in wild snakes, but it does happen sometimes - invasive species, like the Burmese pythons in the Florida Everglades, are more prone to it as they can breeze right past their competition. Overweight snakes are at a much higher risk for fatty liver and heart disease, and the extra stress on their bones can make mobility difficult and even painful.

Weight Loss, Dieting, Medical Shit Goin' On
At the request of @meethisharma , I'm making a big post of like. EVERYTHING I've learned so far since truly trying to lose weight and do better since February of this year. I'm of course going to go into my background as to why I need to lose weight and my life as an obese person, different references I've used to help with my weight loss, dietary changes, THE WHOLE SHEBANG.
So uh. Buckle up, it's a LONG post.
(Also, shout out to Jordan Shrinks over on YouTube, I've followed this woman for years and she is still the biggest inspiration and my favorite fucking person who has helped me shape my routine for weight loss.)
Why did I start trying to lose weight?
I have been obese pretty much my whole life. In high school, I weighed 260-270 lbs. Both of my parents struggled with drug addiction, and that meant that we ate a lot of unhealthy, over processed food as it was the cheapest. I also rarely, if ever, drank water growing up; we mostly had soda in the house, and that's what I drank.
Last year, in May of 2022, I weighed 330 lbs. This was after I had already lost an unknown amount of weight, as I put on a LOT working at McD's given the food was free and I was broke most of the time. This was still not enough for me to start losing weight, but I did start packing my own lunches and at least started eating better. In September, I started my first hotel job, and with the better work and pay, I was finally able to afford insurance for 2023 and start going to doctors like I needed to. I've always had a LOT of chronic issues, but none were ever diagnosed as I really didn't go to the doctor much unless it was an absolute dire emergency.
Timeskip to the first week or two of February, 2023, and I finally get in to see a nurse practioner who will lead me to find my current primary care doctor. I weighed 312 lbs, and she was very... well, blatantly, she didn't even give me the time of day LMAO. She didn't even bother to tell me I was pre-diabetic, I had to find that out from looking at my lab results myself.
Week 3 of February, I get in with the guy who's now my primary care doctor. He's also fat, like I am, and he was also far more direct with me about my situation. As it turned out, I was in like stage 3 hypertension (my blood pressure was 150 smth over 140), I was almost 90% deficient in vitamin D (y'know, the shit that makes your bones HARD), my iron saturation in my blood was in single digits (aka severely anemic, borderline needed a blood transfusion), I was well into my way to being a Type-2 Diabetic (my A1C was 5.8, you need to be 6.4 to be diagnosed), AND... my liver was struggling really, really badly. Side note, he's also a mental health professional, and he's the one who originally diagnosed my severe PTSD and got me in with my therapist.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS NOT IN THE BEST CONDITION. I was actually well on my way to developing early heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, blood clots, like everything I was the MOST afraid of was what I was about to have. Because I wasn't taking care of myself, I was living off of ramen and fast food and processed as shit food all the time, TV dinners... I'd make a meal out of a family-sized bag of chips or a whole roll of crackers and several slices of cheese.
My doctor was very point fucking blank about my outcomes. I could've died if I did nothing. A really horrible way to die, too. He told me that if I wanted to make changes, he'd get me every resource possible he could to help me, but I had to want the changes if they were gonna stick. Keep that in mind, right? YOU have to want the changes needed.
And that's when everything started.
THE GAME PLAN
SO, what did I do to start losing weight? What changes did I make?
Everything. FUCKING everything. My doctor said I needed a low-as-possible sodium diet, so I changed it. I needed to start exercising, so I did. I needed meds and to get into therapy to help deal with my mental health, so I religiously take my meds and I go to therapy as many times as possible each month. He also wanted me to get a daytime job, as my overnights were likely making things worse, and I finally got that done now, too.
A big thing to add here, too: my doctor has not talked to me about BMI. The only thing he has asked me to do is get to 200 lbs. He says so long as I don't drop under 120, he's said it's fine whatever weight I stop on, so long as I get to 200.
But where did I begin? The SIMPLE shit.
I started with ten minute walks. That's it for exercising, I started with TEN MINUTE WALKS. And you know what? It was fucking hard. It still is. It's like pulling teeth sometimes to get me to get up and go take a 30 minute to an hour walk. But don't let these fucking fitness influencers bully you into thinking that if you can't handle pumping iron in the gym for 6 hours straight then you're always gonna be a fat slob or whatever those fuckheads say these days. And, if you don't like walking, if you'd rather lift weights, you can do that too! If you don't want to go to a gym like I don't, order some cheap ones off of Amazon or Walmart. Go cycling or swimming or jumping rope. You don't have to go big and hard into exercise to be healthier. Start small.
Now, diet-wise, I threw myself in it a little too vigorously and I also paid the price of wasting like $50 each payday in shit I didn't eat or still haven't, and I also fucked up my GI tract for a solid month. I was ROUGHING it. Raw-dogged the low sodium diet and it did it back double time, do NOT do what I did. There's gonna be a WHOLE section after this one on dietary shit. Big thing, though? MEAL PLANNING. I don't care if you only meal plan one meal of the day, I only do my damn dinners. Just take time on your day off to batch cook a bunch of shit to be able to eat for one meal throughout the week.
MAKE GOALS. I don't care if the goals you set seem shallow to you or not, make some fucking goals. Keep them on a list you can easily find, especially like on your phone. HELL, keep the list in SEVERAL ways, like a paper on your wall. I have another section planned for like examples and my own goals on down.
EXERCISE
AGAIN, start small. Don't go hog wild and try to do an hour a day at the gym to start; that's gonna burn you out and wear you down before you even get started. Also, you don't need a gym to exercise. If you never wanna step foot in a gym, you NEVER have to.
Start with a five to ten minute walk every other day. You don't like walking? Cool, get some cheap weights (or a kettlebell weight) and lift weights for 5-10 minutes. I just recently got a 5lb kettlebell on Amazon for like $8.55 after tax so I can start doing weighted exercises. (NOTE: don't start with big heavy weights. You'll fuck up your muscles and joints. You'll want to research what weight to start with first.)
I think it wassss two weeks of me walking for ten minutes every other day before I moved to 15 minutes? Now, in May, I can go for an hour at a leisurely pace.
My Routine:
45 minute-hour walk at LEAST 4 days a week.
One day of 30 minute power walking or walking-jogging intervals. I walk along the street I live on, and I do 1/3 of the way jogging, the rest walking.
At LEAST one day using resistance band exercises. Resistance bands are like $10 at Walmart, I recommend using a light one to start WHILE AT YOUR HEAVIEST WEIGHT. Resistance bands work by using your own body weight as the resistance, so it's best to start while you're still at the heaviest.
Hoping to work the kettlebell in on at least three days of the week, doing weighted HIIT exercises (high intensity training).
DIETARY CHANGES
The BIGGEST piece of advice I can give you is to make sustainable changes. The reason diet culture doesn't work is because you can't survive off of diet food for a long period of time, meaning you'll just regain the weight back once you return to a normal diet. Also, carbs are not bad for you. Unless a doctor specifically tells you to lower carb intake, PLEASE do not just suddenly decide to stop eating carbs as you can permanently damage your major internal organs.
Now, I am not on a diet, persay. The changes I've made I plan to keep for the rest of my life. Now, I can only tell you what I do, and not what you should do. I have some formal training in nutrition, and I can give you advice on what not to do, but again, I can mostly tell you what works for me.
NOW THAT THAT'S OUT OF THE WAY, HERE WE GO! I am on a low-sodium diet, meaning I do not add salt to shit. I use Accent, a shit ton of seasoning and spices, and I get my canned food no salt added when I can. I also mainly only eat turkey and chicken (mostly chicken), while beef and pork are like... a treat every once in a while. I also get low sodium canned tuna or like... actually good fish sticks. And, as I live on the Gulf Coast, I get fresh shrimp once or twice a month. I also do NOT add sugar to something unless it's a recipe for like bread to feed the yeast. I get canned fruit in 100% juice, or I get it frozen mostly. If I want to add something to make it sweet, I dump fruit in it. I've also recently been adding like... one packet of splenda ALONG WITH FRUIT to my oatmeal. Tastes p good, do not recommend splenda in coffee. Shit's nasty.
I am also a calorie counter and believer. The easiest way to think of calories is like... energy. One calorie is one unit of energy. I HIGHLY recommend using a couple of calorie calculators to help figure out your daily intake, and I use the My Fitness Pal app to keep track of what I eat, especially as I am prone to boredom eating and binge eating, as I do still struggle with disordered eating. I also keep an eye on my macros (protein, carbs, fats), as well as my cholesterol, sodium, and saturated fat levels.
So, what does Cy do for food? A lot but also... not very much, lol. I am a convenience bitch. I ain't here to cook several times a day and shit, I ain't got time for it. I be makin' shit as easy as possible.
I do often drink protein shakes before or after I walk or have an intense workout. You don't have to, just keep in mind you DO need high protein intake before or after working out, to help your muscles repair themselves. I get the cheap af Purely Inspired brand at Walmart, mix it with frozen fruit and milk in my blender.
PLEASE, GOD, DRINK WATER! Drink plenty of frickin water. Your body has to be hydrated and the more water you drink, the less water your body retains as extra. A bit weird, I know, but take it from me as I carry about 10-12 lbs of water weight a day, and it was a LOT more when I wasn't hydrating properly.
I meal prep one meal a week. It's dinner now, so I take a day I'm off, make a big batch of smth, and separate it into like 5-7 containers, freezing some and fridgerating the others. I post recipes and total costs over on @cylentlycrafting , and I get those cheap ass Mainstays meal prep containers. It's like $5 for 5 of em, and I have like... 3-4 sets.
The main meat I eat now is chicken, as it has the highest amount of protein across all meats. I also pretty much exclusively eat whole grain foods (brown rice, whole wheat bread, whole wheat or brown rice or quinoa pasta), and I keep instant brown rice and instant oats on hand. Listen, I'm an impatient ass mfer, I don't have 45 mins to cook some goddamn rice.
I also luv eggies. And cheese. And dairy. Though I typically get reduced fat dairy products, except milk. Reduced fat sour cream, reduced fat cheese, sometimes reduced fat yogurt, but I take any yogurt I can get my hands on.
I use a LOT of canned beans, peas, chickpeas, and tomatoes. I also get frozen broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, and carrots as far as veggies go. I also often get chopped romaine lettuce, carrot chips, grape tomatoes, and onions. That is the beginning and the end to the veggies I eat, and best be fucking sure I put red kidney beans and chickpeas in everything almost it. Broccoli, too. Tomatoes.
Fruit wise, I have a LOT of fruit cups and canned fruit in 100% fruit juice, frozen fruit, and I also have a thing for clementines lately. Been eating tf out of them.
Snackies wise, I usually get that big box of baked chips from Lays. Peanut butter and graham crackers. Dark chocolate. Power Crunch protein bars because PROTEIN BARS DON'T HAVE TO BE DISGUSTING!!!!!
I pretty much exclusively use olive oil, but canola oil is also pretty damn good if you're on a budget! Just avoid regular butter, that shit's got so much calories and fat in it.....
Listen, you don't have to go broke buying shit. I tend to allot more money to food than most people because I have a LOT of food issues, and because I commit hard to shit. I have olive oil mayo and butter replacements, I keep low sugar and low sodium ketchup, and I buy expensive ass Lucini tomato sauce. You don't have to. Like I also buy tater tots and off-brand coco puffs and mini wheats.
I have experimented with a LOT of brands in the past few months, which I will probably make another post about eventually? Maybe? Also more budget-friendly shopping hacks and shit given I be trying to save as much money as possible.
GOALS
Listen, like every big project, you need goals. Getting your body healthy is a big project, and you should make goals. Goals on why you want to get healthy, goals on why to keep going even when shit gets hard. I don't care if it's the most vain shit ever, if it's a goal it's a fucking goal.
Here are some of mine:
More clothing options. If I lose more weight, I will be able to fit into smaller sizes and have more choices on what to wear.
SELF CONFIDENCE
Feeling less embarrassed when eating out somewhere.
HEALTH. A large part of me always feeling shitty is my diet and lack of proper vitamins and nutrients.
Prediabetes. I don't want to be like my mom and papaw and have to poke myself multiple times a day nor be reliant on insulin.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The main things I can impress upon y'all:
Build sustainable habits. If you don't think you'd be able to do it for the rest of your life, maybe rethink the habit before it becomes too set in stone.
You're gonna fall off the horse sometimes. You're gonna cheat, you're gonna make slip ups. And that's okay. Don't feel guilty, don't overrestrict or punish yourself for it. You're human, and you're trying, and that's okay. You can only do as much as you're able to right here and right now.
It's a hard and long road. Getting healthy and fit isn't going to be a breeze in the park. This shit is hard, especially if you're building new habits from scratch. But you got this. YOU CAN DO IT.
You HAVE to want this for yourself. No one else can want it for you. It has to be on you and you alone.
You're gonna find people wanting to sabotage you, as horrible as it sounds. Sometimes people feel threatened when others attempt to better themselves, because that person or those persons know they wouldn't put the time or energy into doing so themselves. And, unfortunately, some of those people are your close friends and family :/
TRY NEW THINGS. FAIL AND KEEP GOING. I have tried so much shit in the last few months, and some has stuck, some has not. I have learned I do not like a lot of vegetables, and that's okay. I also make taco salad (from 'scratch') at least two to three times a month. What works, works!
You are going to bloat A LOT when you start amping up workouts. Your body holds extra water and nutrients for up to FOUR WEEKS after you start exercising or start a new exercise routine/build up on your existing one. This is to repair your muscles and joints as they grow.
Scales like to lie, and they won't tell you how much water weight you're holding. And yes, you will be able to tell you're bloated. I never knew of bloating until now and sometimes shit fits weird when I'm majorly bloated. It SUCKS
Measure yourself. Your stomach, chest, waist, hips. All of it. Keep it. It'll be amazing to see how much you've changed eventually.
I actually would LOVE to keep making posts like this. But, here's my current progress:
I am a little under 270 lbs, unsure of how much as I am starting and trying new exercises, as well as my new job being HELLA more active than my old one.
I do have more processed stuff in my diet, but i do try to balance it with healthier food, too. Budgeting is.... hard.
My blood pressure tends to run 110/70 now.
I hope this helps someone out there.
My heart rate has gone down from 100+ bpm, to now it's at 60-75 bpm.
I also drink diet soda now, usually one a day.

I'm just really, really scared about my liver. I'm only 26. If the tumors are growing, are they going to keep growing? Someday will I need a transplant? It's a real possibility, and it's terrifying. And I'm a little concerned that I don't just have hepatic adenomas, I might have a rare disease called hepatic adenomatosis. I'm not certain, it's hard to tell, I have to ask the doctor if I have it or not. No one mentioned that term last year, but this time on my MRI report it said "findings consistent with hepatic adenomatosis." And so I tried to research that a bit.
You know you might have a really rare disease when there isn't even a Wikipedia page for it lol. No WebMD page, no Mayoclinic page. The only articles I've found were clearly written up for an audience of medical students and doctors.
From what I can tell from the articles I've read, hepatic adenomatosis is diagnosed when there are 10 or more tumors, and I have significantly more than 10. Which would indicate that that's what I have. But since the doctors didn't mention that last time I'm not certain if that's definitely what I have or not. I'm going to ask at my appointment in two weeks. Just. So many questions and I'd really really like to get to ask them now instead of waiting until the 29th.

Entamoeba Histolytica
Moving on from Disseminated infections.
and back to parasites, we have this amoeba.
Tumblr media
Courtesy of wikipaedia.
One complication is liver abscess.
Tumblr media
Image from NEJM
Ring enhancing cysts were seen on CT (requested after the authors noted deranged liver function tests) and on percutaneous drainage (which radiology can do), they had brown cloudy fluid. Under the microscope they noted the pseudopods (leg like extensions).
Classically though, entamoeba causes amoebic dysentery or bloody diarrhoea that develops over 1-4 weeks. However, 90% are asymptomatic. Given the complications/extra-GI manifestations, it can be fatal in a very small minority.
Severe disease/Complications - toxic megacolon (always makes me think of heavy metal bands, in sad actuality it's inflammation that affects more layers and causes the colon to wide. resembling balloon animals) - fulminant colitis + perforation (from inflammation, ulceration etc. that the trophozoites induce, high mortality) - liver abscess (more common, fevers/RUQ/hepatomegaly, transamnitis and jaundice, maybe months before this develops) - rarely: pericarditis + tamponade (from liver rupture, rare but high mortality), pleural effusion & brain abscess (exceedingly rare - but acute confusion + fevers, rapid deterioration) risk factors for severe diseases/complications: malignancy, pregnancy, immunosuppression in general.
Toxic megacolon: Can actually rupture eventually. Courtesy of wiki
Tumblr media
Transmission: faecal oral routes (contaminated food/water sources) and it's widely distributed across the world. As with many infectious diseases, it has a higher prevalence in lower socioeconomic groups and regions of the world. Africa & South/Central AMerica have higher rates than other countries (poor sanitation areas, water sources like rivers have multiple purposes for households etc.). Generally, in western countries, it develops in returned travellers who went to endemic areas or immigrants.
Detection: EIA assay for entamoeba antigen in stool, serology (relies on antibodies, so undetectable the first week and last a life time, does not differentiate acute vs past infection), stool MCS for cysts and ova, PCR and colonoscopy (ulcer/erosions, biopsy will reveal cysts and trophozoites)
Treatment: metronidazole in active/acute disease, increased doses in severe/complicated disease or invasive. depending on where you are, also paromycin if asymptomatic or following active treatment to remove cysts.
Consider this in returned travellers with high fevers, abdo pain and bloody diarrhoea lasting > 2 weeks.
Avoids while travelling to endemic areas - uncooked foods, unbottled water/ice cubes, street vendors (what a shame), just anything raw. Practice good hand hygiene.

Little Kids, Big Dreams
GoFundMe for Mason Thomas Clemence
Mason Thomas Clemence was born on November 3, 2010, weighing only 3 lbs 13 oz. His older sister was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition right around that time, so Mason’s family and the medical team knew that Mason had the same condition. He was diagnosed with DNA Ligase IV Deficiency right away, which is a rare and serious immunodeficiency. Currently, there are only 30 documented cases of Ligase IV deficiency in the world, and Mason and Lizzy are two of them right here in our community. The only known treatment is a bone marrow transplant. Lizzy’s transplant was successful. She is 13 now and she celebrates her cell day on June 9th every year. Mason is 11 now and has had complications since his Bone Marrow Transplant 10 years ago. He has developed Graft versus Host Disease of the skin, gut, and eyes. This means that some of the donor cells from the bone marrow transplant attack and damage Mason’s healthy cells. This has affected Mason’s skin, scalp, eyes, GI tract, lungs, liver, muscles, and joints. He has a feeding tube so he can get enough nutrition to stay healthy, oxygen to help with breathing, a wheelchair for back and bone pain, glasses for his eye damage, and lots of medication, monitoring, and trips out of state to his Bone Marrow Team for treatment. It also means that Mason is very susceptible to viruses and illnesses. Mason is a Glenwood Titan, but he hasn’t been able to go to school for the past two years due to his compromised health and has continued to learn virtually. Mason needs a private duty nurse (RN or LPN) to help at home and attend school with him, but his family hasn’t been able to find anyone to fill this role. Mason should be joining the friends he made in elementary school as they transition to Glenwood Intermediate School in August, but he continues to face health challenges. Mason just wants to be healthy enough to go to school in person and interact with his friends again. Mason’s condition is so rare that the closest team to treat his condition is at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, which means a lot of travel for him and his family. Mason is in the hospital right now with a collapsed trachea and bronchi, and blockages in 2 lobes of his lungs. He is having headaches from CO2 retention. He also has an enlarged liver and his liver lesions are larger, which may explain his abdominal pain.  Mason usually stays at the Ronald McDonald house for his specialist appointments (they usually span 2 days) where there is a game room and snacks. Now, he’s admitted and trying to get better from a hospital bed.  Mason's mom and sister are with him. His dad is at home in Springfield and visits on the weekends. Mason’s parents are trying to maintain work schedules, school schedules, and all the planned and unplanned challenges that come with this disease. Mason’s family has to commute to Ohio, and the impact of these high gas prices is becoming unmanageable. His family needs help with gas expenses and help with covering any expenses not paid by insurance. Please help Mason and his family!

4th video for our month of plants :)
Getting close to the end of the week, but we made it in time!
This is a fun challenge we two sisters are doing, where I paint and she talks about a particular plant. This time it's poppy, who you might know for it's infamous properties, but let me tell you, that's not even the half of it.
Tumblr media
@cybermanolol : the poppy I drew is the Iceland poppy (along with a few more flowers). I kept it fairly simple this time, I think that's what suits this plant best
@_chalulu_ my sources are Le Régal végétal by François Couplan.

People go to many extremes to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but generating green stool shouldn't be one of them.
Your morning trip to the bathrooom revealed you may have had one too many green beers last night. Do you need to be worried about green poop?
To find out all things green poop, we checked in with Mayo Clinic, UnityPoint Health, healthline.com and medicine.net.
Here's what you need to know:
Is it OK if your poop is green?
According to mayoclinic.org, all shades of brown and even green poop are considered to be normal. It is rare for the color of your poop to indicate a potentially serious intestinal condition.
Is green poop an infection?
Maybe, according to medicine.net. Many people experience green diarrhea and it will usually go away on its own.
If you're experiencing severe diarrhea symptoms when your poop is green, your stool may be an indication of something more serious and you should contact a physician.
Why is my poop green?
The color of one's poop is generally dictated by the food you consume combined with the amount of bile that exists in your poop, according to mayoclinic.org.
What is bile? It's a yellow-green fluid that digests fats.
Enzymes chemically alter bile pigments as they make their journey through the gastrointestinal tract. This is what changes the color of your poop from brown to green..
What does green poop mean?
According to mayoclinic.org, the bile doesn't have time to break down completely due to food moving through the large intestine too fast — such as diarrhea.
What causes green poop?
According to mayoclinic.org, there are few dietary items that bring about green poop:
Green food coloring (dyed beer, flavored drink mixes or ice pops).
Green leafy vegetables.
Iron supplements.
According to UnityHealth, other causes for green poop may include:
Bacterial or viral infections.
Gastrointestinal disorders − such as Crohn’s or celiac disease.
Why is my poop green, but I didn't eat anything green?
Foods using artificial or natural food coloring struggle with absorption while they pass through gastorintestinal system, according to healthline.com. This allows for blue and purple foods to leve behind a residue and that leaves poop green during the digestive process.
Such food tiems include:
Blue or purple ice pops.
Blue or purple icing.
Blueberries
Grape-flavored sodas
Red cabbage.
Does green poop mean a bad liver?
Bile is created in the liver, but green poop does not an indication that your liver is going bad, according to UnityHealth.
Why is my poop black?
According to mayoclinic.org, some dietary reasons for black poop include black licorice, iron supplements and bismuth subsalicylate — which is basically Kaopectate or Pepto-Bismol. However, you shouldn't take black poop lightly.
What does black poop mean?
Black poop may be a sign of bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract — such as the stomach — according to mayoclinic.org. Anyone who discovers black poop after a bowel movement should seek immediate medical attention.

Headcanon - Briar's Biology
Putting this under a read-more because it's kinda gross to talk about body-stuff, and IDK what to tag it as???
Tumblr media
Briar has 4 "main" organs that functionally work the same as any normal humanoid being.
Brain
There's nothing too significant in terms of difference. Though the physical brain is nearly identical to any human if someone were to do a brain-scan on her, various parts of her brain would not send off signals anything like humanoids might. Various parts of her brain are more active and it would be entirely different from any other person or any kind of normal reading one might get.
Confirmed, Briar does have a brain Thoughts may happen, be warned
Lungs + Heart
These organs are vital to Briar and they also take up more space than a normal humanoid. They are what takes up a lot of space that other organs may occupy but this also is because they tend to work 2x as hard as any other humanoid.
The heart especially has a very rapid heartbeat that to others might cause a heart attack but to Briar it is normal. While a human's resting heart rate may be at 60-100 BPM, Briar's heart runs more akin to 140-180 BPM, and rapidly accelerates to 200-280 BPM while in frenzy. She requires this rapid heart beat as her body rapidly burns through any food and energy she has and the oxygen she needs to do so is a lot.
Stomach
Who needs intestines? A bladder? kidneys? Briar doesn't.
Her body is more akin to a carnivore only with a much larger stomach taking up the space that a liver, kidneys, pancreas, and other organs that help with digestion would go. Due to this she can eat *a lot more* than normal people. She also produces a stomach acid so powerful that very little is indigestible.
If what she eats is made from organic material she can break it down, though if it's not meat her body will burn the energy to get nothing back. If the materials are made of non-organic material or rocks/metals/ect then she normally will throw it up later, or have really fucking bad indigestion as her body can't process it.
For the most part, Briar doesn't leave any waste that needs to be disposed of from her body. As such she rarely uses the restroom or has to, only in cases she eats something her body can't break down. Of which those times can be extremely unpleasant.
Reproductive System!
While I had not drawn it, Briar does have, somewhat of a female reproductive system. Her uterus and ovaries are very underdeveloped and in the case of her ovaries, they are non-existent.
It is impossible to get Briar pregnant as her body does not produce the hormones, or have the right organs or even an egg to fertilize, and her body would self-cannibalize anything that was to try and attach to her innards. She does still have a vagina because who would make a golem who can't fuck/j
Disease!
Another thing I didn't draw is how her body deals with disease.
Briar's body self-cannibalizes a lot. To the point, it's why she is so underweight despite still having eaten so much. Most of the time the body does not eat away at muscle, but it will eat anything and everything else. Fats, invasive diseases, anything that isn't Briar, her body will consume in it's own, weird biological way.
This means that Briar can't die from disease, many diseases are built to infect and impact humanoids. While Briar does have some organs that are similar to humanoids, she doesn't possess anything that actually can be concretely affected. Her immune system is always on the attack, and her body is always burning energy in some way or another. No disease can survive in her body. Virus, bacteria, and anything that enters her body are eaten.

time for another rare personal post......i need a liver transplant 🙃
really thought i had hit rock bottom these past hellish months, but i guess there's always lower you can go.
with the disease i have it was always gonna end with a need for a liver transplant, but it was supposed to be several years into the future. but i'm not getting any better, i'm getting worse actually, steroids haven't done shit and i've run out of options. i'm still not at the 'must replace now or die' stage (hope i won't get there either....), but my liver specialist said there's no avoiding it anymore, it must be replaced, so we're slowly starting the process, which means getting my name out there (the transplant center where the magic will happen), meeting up and discussing everything with them whenever they call me in (2 hours away from where i live), doing a shit ton of tests they'll ask of me....gonna be a long process, probably several months minimum, but it's time to start getting the ball rolling so everything will be ready when the time comes.
so. yeah. 2023 is shaping up to be a wonderful year, i'm doing really well mentally and emotionally rn 🙃 anyway. i'm generally a private person but i just felt the need to share and tell someone about this shit, so. thanks for listening to me rambling into the void. good health to you all 💛
