#alolan raichu #holy shit these alolan forms are kicking the fuck outta my ass #the things i do for you all. my production value on this blog has increased over the years and i don't think i can get away with the same #weird shit i used to be able to when i couldn't find a good model so now i'm having to learn how to use blender and shit?? #downloading weird scripts off the internet just because i can't find the right models. and now alolan raichu has kantonian eyes #they have kantonian eyes. i know. i'm sorry. i don't know how to fix it and this is the best you're going to get because i had to work for #like an hour and a half just to get to this point. and i know the lighting is dark. it's. it's bad. it'll probably be like this for all #the alolan forms at least. and holy shit when we get to gen 9 it's going to be even worse #this is a wreck!! this is a wreck. i had to use the sv model for this one and it's like #i dunno the eyes in sv aren't textures?? they're procedural. they're fucking. shaders. in sv. which is why espeon's pupils #are no longer pupils and are instead reflections (lie‚ falsehood) #and i'm. dissolving. y'all're gonna have to bear with me moving forward bc i've gotten Very used to the “it just works” nature of #the older models that i was using but this is getting way harder on me as we move into newer generations

My current theory on Alolan Raichu's dual typing and overall different disposition comes from the environmental stressors differing between regions! The fact that Pikachu doesn't really have that much competition in it's niche in Alola allows them to have calmer dispositions! Alongside that, there's many ways that allow Pikachu to discharge, the biggest form is the ocean, with how conductive the salty water is and how easy beaches are to access, Pikachu and Raichu are able to destress from overcharging. In fact, overcharged Pikachu are less common to encounter. Maybe Alola's serene surroundings opened up the possibility for it's psychic potential to emerge, sheerly because they're happier in the wild here compared to anywhere else?

I wouldn't rule these out, however I'd also like to offer that there are just as many predators for Pikachu in Alola, but I'd like to beleive that they found a safe place near the beach which is why surfing became a big part of their new forms.

Also consider that they gain the psychic typing apparently from "eating pancakes" however I beleive that there are 4 guardians with fairy types who heavily affect the region, that's where I think the over abundance of power of energy really comes from.

We may never actually have a solid answer but we can always speculate.

Alolan Raichu today, tried a lot of the same things as yesterday because science. So reverse shading, a bit of the deep color into eraser blending (with an eraser that worked this time, turns out my pencil one works much better at the cost of being waaay smaller. And by pencil one I mean my eraser shaped like a pencil, not one on the back of my pencil), got some new stuff too like the eye shine and shake lines. The eye shine works, the shake lines are more iffy... Also while the head is good I really need to get better at lower bodies in poses that aren't standing.

Last year is a Litten and Espeon, on a couch covered in cushions, because I drew them, then a poor couch, and needed to cover up the fail with cushions. Still, not the worst, kinda miss how easy it was to do the color and similar in greyscale. Well, not easy, but it was quicker since I didn't need to figure things out with my box of colors or swap pencils or anything.
