Sometimes I wonder if there's really anything bigger out there - the universe, some kind of higher power, fate - and then I think about how extremely lucky I am that I became obsessed with a certain tv show and its characters at just the right time so that I could befriend someone who then introduced me to a particular book at exactly the right time to fall in love with those characters as well. And then, because of my need to have more of those characters, I went looking for more stories about them at exactly the right time to meet a group of people (some of them together, some of them later, but that doesn't matter) who would go on to become my friends.

There must be something, right? To bring together a group of people who live in five to seven different time zones depending on the time of year. To create my safest spaces on the internet. To share not just our love for a book and its characters, but parts of our lives with each other. To have them all wedge themselves into the soft spaces of my heart and never leave.

I've been thinking about this a lot over the last two weeks, because those people conspired and collaborated to gift me a collection of 10 incredible fics for a milestone birthday (tomorrow!) - even though some of them haven't written fic for months and months, or don't write for this fandom at all anymore, or have recently been finding it hard to make words work and finish fics, or are just plain busy with other projects and life. That they took the time to find and make words for me means everything and more 💖💖

I've been absolutely overwhelmed with love these past 10 days (probably to the surprise of no one, I have cried at every single fic drop and I'm crying writing this now). So, I want to share the wonderful fics that they've written for me with you all because it's the least I can do to pay it forward and they're objectively stellar fics. If you haven't come across them already then you should definitely add them to your to read lists/open tabs/MFL. Please show my friends some love and read their work.

It requires teamwork to get out of it alive, but Francis manages to make a mistake that will cost him dearly.

Change Ship: SuNor (unfortunately not very shippy tbh) Words: 2 515 Published: 23. December 2023 Summary: Norway is not happy with being traded around like a piece of property and he is certainly not happy with his new "boss" ; Sweden. Over the years, his opinion does not change, but their personal relationship just might.

All you have to do is ask Ship: ScotNor Words: 3 468 Published: 30. December 2022 Summary: Sigurd keeps inviting all his friends to a café just befoe the holidays. Why has he become so sociable all of a sudden? Must be the excellent coffee and nothing to do with the handsome barista.

What Love? Ship: FrUK Words: 32 296 Published: 25. July 2016 Summary: France and England have had a thing going on for quite a while, but never talked to each other about it. However, their thoughts keep nagging them and somehow they end up as neither of them could have foreseen.

Love Burns Ship: ScotNor Words: 2 649 Published: 15. October 2020 Summary: The second world war has begun and Norway had to flee his country with the Royal family. While they now are safe in England, he has taken the trip up to stay with Scotland as there is little he can do in London. Still, he longs to be back with his own people.

It’s happenstance that he wanders into the navy recruiting center—he’s been in San Diego for a few weeks, bartending late nights and weekends, living in a house with three other guys not because he needs the roommates but because he doesn’t want to be alone, and the military is…respectable. Stable. So Buck thinks maybe and opens the door.

Buck leaves ten minutes later with a set of printed instructions for sending his first letter, assured that he can drop it off whenever he’s ready, and a name.

If you need a tasty treat to sell you on Cullrian in under 3k, this will do it. They're fuckbuddies. Dorian thinks he know what it is: he's obviously wrong. Deliciously angsty miscommunication, achingly lovely resolution, all in a ridiculously tight package.

Now your appetite is whetted, enjoy its sister-fic - these are the only two cullrian fics susiecarter ever wrote and I mourn that fact routinely. This features some truly delightful imaginings of a second Wicked Grace game where Cullen isn't the one losing clothes. Also featured: hot drunk sex, Dorian's hang-ups, exquisitely sweet virgin!Cullen that is never soppy. 9/10, losing a point because there's not 100k of it. Cullen’s POV.

Checkmate - Kauri - E - 6521 words

Another lovely thing that packs a whole bunch of feels into a very few words in a way I'd frankly kill for (my style is more... verbose). Progresses from Dorian setting out to seduce Cullen to a romcom-worthy yet understated confrontation with his own expectations for relationships.

Mutually Beneficial - Verayne - E - 13,364 words

Billed in the tags as Dorian's fairytale, this delivers - the two make a political alliance to encourage positive interactions between the Templars and rebel mages in the Inquisition force. There are sexy duels that also smack you in the heart. There is my second favourite Inquisition trope after the Wicked Grace: the Winter Palace. The end makes me squeal every time.

Treading Water in the Wishing Well - springdreaming - E - 11,672

I'll avoid saying too much about the plot of this one because it'll give spoilers, but the fantastically romcom-worthy premise is that Sera fancies Lavellan, but Lavellan and Cullen fancy each other. What does she do? Recruits Dorian to help split them up, obviously. Genuinely funny at times which is as you expect with good Sera writing. Pining like an exquisite knife. Dorian's POV.

happy RWRB movie day, friends!

It’s entirely possible that I’m just under-caffeinated, but I’m very emotional over the way this movie has triggered the collision of my fandoms - from seeing familiar names pop up in my ao3 kudos emails or in comments on my RWRB fics as they discover a new fandom to finding gifsets from some of my favourite gif creators now making RWRB gifs to getting to recommend fics to friends and watching people fall in love with a book and characters I’ve loved for a long time. Something about it all feels really special and it’s such a lovely reminder of the best parts of fandom 💖

You know when you dip your toes into a new fandom and you find an author you know from another fandom, how there’s that feeling of relief and joy from the familiarity and ease of knowing I love this person’s writing, so I know I’ll love this? Well, I’ve discovered something even better - writers I love from one fandom falling into a fandom I’m already in!! It feels like a personal gift to me every time it happens 🥰

this one is so soft gah. it's perfect for chapter 32, or at least for those 5 minutes of chapter 32 where ladynoir were actually together! i love the gentle hope woven in these lyrics especially "Moon has never glowed this color/ Hearts have never been this close/ I have never been more certain/ I will love you 'til we're old." they are IT for each other and this moment only reinforced it <333

i couldn't find this one on spotify SADLY but omggg the things it did to my heart. the piano and violin accompaniment was all this song needed to strike that sad, wistful, and sweet tone that colors ladybug's thoughts about chat noir. "And, you're close enough to lose/ Close to the point where you know that your mind/ It can not choose/ Close enough to lose." this one fits the mood of chapter 32 SO well aahhh. chat noir was right there and she couldn't even touch him :'( "And my heart was screaming/ At my bones/ I need you closer." aahhh! my heart is screaming at my bones too because this is exactly the way she was feeling!

don't mess with me boos i will add any and every carly rae song to the odnlb playlist if you give me a good enough reason. "Say my name (My name)/ 'Cause no one else can say it quite the same (The same)." lol this is v reminiscent of how lb was ACHING for cn to call her "my lady" only for it to finally happen at the worst possible moment. and then ahh the part "It takes me back to your September days/ I've missed you way too much (Too much, too much, too much)" & "And know that night I almost said I loved you/ (Loved you, loved you, loved you)/ And you almost said it back?" is SOOO collateral damage! those are the memories and good times they both want to get back to, and for a moment they had hope they could.

i see you with the "Oh my love/ My head is reeling/ And I am running out of air/ I need to breathe in" lyric. this went straight onto the playlist for that! and let us not forget "My bones are safe/ And my heart can rest/ Knowing it belongs to you/ My world is changed/ And it's cradled by/ The comfort that is you" which is the softest sweetest most ladynoir thing ever. it's been like this for both of them since their darkest moment, and it's stayed like that since, as seen in chapter 32! and ugh, my favorite "when we're alone, it's like we're home." yes absolutely yes to all of this, it's perfect.

the vibes on this one...omg </333 "Some day, one day/ I will stop falling in love with you/ Until I do, I'll be thinking of you/ Let you break my heart again" why do i hear this playing over ladynoir's reunion in ch 32?? it's the orchestral backtrack probably. they literally cannot stop being in love with each other even though it's impossible, even though it's only heartbreak.

It's so perfect, with the perfect amount of angst and just ahhh. The atmosphere is also so wonderful. seconds by anomalously (@jellovich) This is a Mickey/OMC fic and I know people may not be too interested in this one, especially if you weren't in the gallavich fandom back when canon was a huge pile of garbage and we all hated Ian, but honestly even if you're not in the gallavich fandom, this fic is amazing, and even though it hasn't been updated since 2017, it ends in a good place, and I still read it at least once a year, often two.
