So a synopsis of that AU I displayed is in order. All of it will be beneath the cut.

I will also put out the references once I am done with this.

Okay so it is a Beauty and the Beast au and I made that clear the first time but I will go over what is going on.

So there once was a royal family a Lurien is the son of the king and queen making him the prince. One day his parents travel off to meet other families to discuss royal matters with them and they trust their son in taking care of the castle.

He does well until he really annoys Soul Master (his name is Namata in this) and accidentally destroyed his dreams. In fury Soul Master builds up a plan and works with Radiance, who is a powerful witch in the woods, to curse him with a powerful curse.

Now to get in the place Soul Master collects up a group of soul warriors to distract the guards to get him to Lurien and when does he cursed him to become a huge butterfly beast. Now Soul Master leaves the tower cursing all that remained inside.

Those who remained inside were:

Marissa, a songstress who only came for a day to entertain in the lounge.

Emilitia, another entertainer who also works in an office in the castle.

Cas,( also known by HK players as the Collecter) a station guard who most definitely has ADHD and is just a quirky individual.

Rus,(he is the love key husk) a cleaner who yearns to be an astrologer also is best friends with Cas.

Poggy Thorax, his real name is Pageo but Poggy is easier, he cooks for the castle and he also wasn’t meant to be here forever but now he is.

Glea,(more well known as the Gorgeous husk): is a snobby but sweet aristocrat who volunteered to help design clothing in the royal family.

Pajett, a watcher knight who was determined to fulfill her job to show her loyalty, she is now dating Sota.

Sota, a great husk sentry who didn’t expect to enjoy being a patrol guard but she did, she is dating Pajett.

Belvedere, lemm’s father and Lurien’s royal tutor when he was a kid. He is a chill guy and has memorised each book in the library’s first three pages.

Tenna, a dish washer who longs to be something more, he keeps moping about how he is forgettable, he is also a baker.

Bixbee, an 18 year old in an 8 year olds body in present day. They look cute but they are quite feisty and really don’t like it when you mention that they are cute.

Vienne, Bixbee’s mom, she works in the castle garden tending to the plants, she loves here kid and has a short temper.

Donn, a previous soul warrior who’s clumsiness got him stuck with the others, he has a good heart but he is a little thick headed. He is close to Belvedere due to their fascination in books.

Celeus, Lurien’s butler and his childhood friend, her job is to report news to the top, she is timid and polite and generally wants to keep order.

Finally we have Lurien, the prince of the isle. He is gloomy but polite. He has anger issues which need taming but generally he will go out of his way to protect the others as he believes it is in his duties to repay them for what he brought upon them.

Now these 15 spend ten years in this castle that is until one day a certain man comes in.

PK ( his name is Albaver in this) is brought to the doors when one day his wife does not come home and much like in the thing this is based after he takes her place in the castle but due to how polite he was he is deemed guest.

Now you can guess how it goes. He starts of distant until one day he stupidly goes up to the top floor (this AU’s equivalent of the west wing) and gets caught but gets saved by the Beast (Lurien) and this causes romance to start brewing, within this we also get character development and tons of pining.

After all this we will have the iconic dance scene and the mob and of course a kiss on the lips to cure the curse and boom they are human again.

With the main plot out of the way, some side things to bring out. Now the castles curse locks them in the castle and the garden behind a magical barrier. There is plenty characters I could bring into this but I would prefer not to right now and tons of areas and magic that I also don’t go too into depth. Another little thing I will bring up is that it is in the time era of 1700’s

listen. all I'm saying in that if you assume for a second that kalmoash is real (even bare minimum moash has a crush on kaladin), moash and adolin BOTH lost their partners when kaladin and shallan fell into the chasms in WoR. They both stood there, in full shardplate, and watched their partner fall to their supposed death while they couldn't do anything to save them.

Words of Radiance - Brandon Sanderson (Stormlight Archives #2)

5/5 - delicious tension and character interactions; everybody grows; i forgot how absolutely awful Shallan's backstory is, poor girl

Spoilers below!

I love that in each of these novels, Sanderson is dedicated to discussing what holding to your choices and your oaths actually means. What does it mean for a character to promise two people contradictory things? What does it mean for someone to live a lie? How does someone come to terms with their traumatic past, even knowing that they were choosing from a series of bad options? I cannot express how much I love a thinking novel! And not in the sense of "Is killing people wrong? You decide" because frankly that's tired.

Anyway, I really appreciate how much depth that Shallan has in this novel. Explaining her backstory turns her from a character who can be somewhat annoying at times with a dark past, into someone who's actively trying to make the world a brighter place for her own sanity. It also reveals a hardness, an edge to her that is certainly present in WoK, but nowhere near as pronounced. One of the things that my sister and I have remarked on while reading Sanderson's books is that, while his romances are sometimes a little weird (not you Shallan/Adolin, never you), his female characters are almost always superbly written. Shallan is allowed to be competent and feminine while still being annoying and a disaster and too ready to insult people at all times.

Kaladin's arc is one that is incredibly near and dear to my heart, and while I love him and think he can do know wrong (yes, even in the times when he is very much doing wrong), I just love seeing everyone else think he's insufferable and annoying and mouthy! He's a little bitch and I love him for that! They put him in prison, made him depressed and willing to commit regicide, and then he turned around and said (to Elhokar's face), "Let's be clear on this Elhokar, I hate you and you're a bad king and not a great person and also a whiny brat (the tirade continues for a while) but I'll protect you anyway." That's character-of-all-time behavior.

I also adore the way that Adolin/Kaladin and Shallan/Kaladin develop a working relationship over the course of this book. They go from reluctant coworkers into best worsties into actual friends.

I should really listen to myself and stop trying to play the older Fire Emblem games or remakes of them, because they're clearly not my thing.

viBRAToryblurriness: First impressions of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, the DS remake of the very first game: it has zero charm and feels like a SNES game (derogatory) viBRAToryblurriness: Like not like a good one, like one of the mediocre ones you'd rent because it looked vaguely interesting from the box and then be stuck with it for a few days despite it not being particularly good, and now you know why it was still on the shelf and the one you were looking for wasn't viBRAToryblurriness: Yeah my Reddit dude, extremely bland dialogue in faux archaic English and character/place names that look like keysmashes are totally Shakespearian viBRAToryblurriness: I don't know how they basically traveled back in time a full decade in terms of presentation compared to the GBA games viBRAToryblurriness: The pixel art is mediocre at best bordering on bad, and the animations really are as bad as everyone said they are, which is a shame because the GBA ones had so much personality

For context, someone on Reddit recently was complaining about modern Fire Emblem and how Awakening is a dating sim and older games were Shakespearian. This is extremely funny to me both because they clearly have never read/seen any actual Shakespeare and because pairing up units for marriage/making child units originated way back on the SNES in Genealogy of the Holy War (or I guess Super Famicom since it never made it out of Japan).

At least in SoV I really liked the characters and art style and overall presentation pretty much immediately, and that kept me going into act 4 even if I wasn't really enjoying the gameplay that much, but after nearly an hour of this one I'm not into basically any of it. It's done pretty much nothing to win me over so far.

Should I go finally finish Path of Radiance already (which I technically never quite have even though I started playing it for the first time ~18 years ago) or just replay Engage? Yes, almost definitely. Will I actually go do that instead of continuing to subject myself to stuff I'm not enjoying? Eventually I hope, but apparently not quite yet.

When I Wake From This Dream With Chains All Around Me (Hollow Knight) where my HK writing got kicked off. Longfic.

It’s Burned In My Mind and all of its associated works (Hollow Knight) absolute fever dream, wrote in a splurge of dissociation, wild time and probably my favorite fic I’ve written. Multichap.

The If We Could Just Be What We Wanted verse (Transformers Prime with a dose of a bunch of other continuities) particularly the first one (which needs edits but in terms of tone and characters and me managing plots genuinely holds up really well to the last few years), Damned If I Do (oneshot), and poor Chaotic Unity (longfic), who I had so many seeds of foreshadowing put into the first fic for and then it got read by like five perfect of the original’s readers XD

control’s graveyard (Monsterverse Godzilla. Yep.) entirely self indulgent fun times, power dynamics central, character studies on everyone, I poured into worldbuilding and backstories and I think I managed to do show don’t tell with them better here than I manage elsewhere. Someone said that I managed to keep the main character “alien and genuinely despicable” while somehow keeping them sympathetic, and that praise is put on my mental fridge forever. I reread this fic more than I do any of my other ones. Genuinely my favoritism for it is showing hard. Multichap.

Immolation (MTMTE/Lost Light) Haven’t read this one in a year so grammar wise I’m sure it’s a wreck, but my 3am brain went off on this one and its stream of consciousness style. Oneshot.

Wyrm Off A String (Hollow Knight) based on crack and others’ art, ridiculous premise, somehow the best worldbuilding and foreshadowing of a twist ending I’ve done. Oneshot.

Modern aMerican Football au Stormlight

Kholin: a family notorious for their skill, domination and violence in professional football

Dalinar: a retired player turned coach. Has had many scandals including drugs/alcohol, a wild divorce case, suspected murder, and constant brawls. In his older age he has been attempting to change his public face and prioritizing the health of his players. He has high expectations for his two sons... all that Dadlinar stuff.

Adolin: a college football player who is widely liked. He plays the part of perfect son, but dreams of transferring to fashion school. All of his attempts to be apply have been denied because of his family reputation and how everyone kind of assumes its a practical joke. They don't take his genuine interest and intelligence into consideration. They think he would be wasting his athletic potential by pursuing anything else. Dalinar also probably shuts down or intimidates anyone that might consider letting his son change career paths.

Renarin: basically a bench warmer on the team. or a water boy. They only let him on because of his family name. He deserves better and is majoring in philosophy/literature.

Kaladin: His family are war refugees. He suffers from ptsd and depression from the violence he experienced and the death of his younger brother. He was raised with the expectation of being a doctor, but fell in love with sports and the teamwork after moving to America. It served as a coping mechanism. His high school coach, Amaram, sacrificed his teams safety to win a bet during state competition. Kaladin won the game for them, but was injured and cast out of the team. His record is permanently tarnished because of a fight he had with said coach. Now he is a field paramedic for his college's team and fighting to make more safety regulations for young players.

Shallan: A transfer journalism student from Europe. She thinks American football is stupid. But she also thinks some of the players are hot and makes fan art of them. Shes interning under Jasnah, a football commentator, and general critic. Who she also totally doesn't have a crush on.

Syl: I like the idea people have for her in a modern au being Kaladin's long distance internet friend.

Pattern: I think Pattern could basically be the same but rather than a magic spren thing, he is another part of Shallan's psychosis.

Moash: Came from a similar situation as Kaladin and they bonded heavily. He became extremely jaded upon seeing the privilege shown to certain players, Elhokar, and general racism in society. Infuriated with what they could get away with, he decided to take justice into his own hands. This led to a falling out with Kaladin, an attempted murder, a warrant for his arrest, and getting in with the wrong crowd. He now suffers from drug addiction, and is unable to seek help. He regularly harasses and stalks Kaladin.

Teft: a physical therapist/chiropractor hired by the college team. Has taken Kaladin under his wing.

Wit:... I cant decide what for him. I think it would be funny if he was like a frat boy, but isn't actually enrolled in the school. He's just strangely there. Everywhere. Also somehow was in Europe and knows Shallan. Is Jasnah's boyfriend bc that's too cursed not to include. He could also be a commentator.

Maya: lol what if she was Adolin's lucky football? Poor maya

my experience of liking hollow knight gets funnier and funnier (to me) the longer it goes on like. yeah this is a game my partner infodumped to me about literally months ago. no i don't know what im doing but the pale king is an idiot and also a worm and the void is there and FUCK the radiance. also, They're All Bugs.

and then i started playing it and realized that oh im not bad at games like this actually and took out hornet in 8ish tries and the mantis lords in around 5 or 6 and got extremely attached to quirrel and obsessively read enemy wiki entries for like 3 hours

and now with 47hrs on my save file 9 days after downloading the game i have every single requirement for each individual ending memorized (but i keep mixing up the names). also no fuck you im not going to go kill the dreamers until i have LITERALLY nothing else to do. if anything happens to the old stag im killing myself. if i don't go into the archives nothing will happen to quirrel shut up he's fine. i need to tuck hollow into a little pocket and violently rip apart anything that comes near them. im gonna kiss hornet tenderly on the forehead. i want to finely and slowly grate the radiance while she's still alive. the hunter is my homie. die.
