Etymology

From English, "Ch" from "Butch" + "-emme" from "Femme". Coined by Gent of Gender-Jargon, 2024.

Elaboration

Chemme describes any individual who is both Butch and Femme. Chemme is similar to Butchfemme, but specifies Chemme as being distinct from Futch. In this context, Futch is conceptualized as a being between Butch and Femme. Whereas Chemme is a term to describe a coupled Butch-Femme experience. This experience can be (in)distinct, simultaneous, fluid, fluctuating, (un)equal, partial, etc.

Like Butch, Femme, Futch, etc., Chemme can be a queer subcultural identity or a gender identity specifically. When specifying a Chemme gender identity, Chemmegender can be used. Chemmegender describes an individual with a Butchgender-Femmegender bigender.

Flag

The Chemme flag was created using two common Butch and Femme flags, created by tumblr user Butchspace and tumblr user Noodle, respectively with slight color adjustment. The topmost three stripes are taken from the aforementioned Butch flag. The middle stripe is white, like it is in both the Butch and Femme flags. The bottom three stripes are taken from the Femme flag. From top to bottom, the Chemme flag is burnt orange, orange, coral, white, lilac, light purple and dark purple. The stripes have the following meanings:

The burnt orange, orange and coral stripes represent Butch identity.

The white stripe represents Multigender experience.

The lilac, light purple and dark purple stripes represent Femme identity.

Some info below the cut

August/Auggie considers Maisie to be her sister, they come from the same hometown. After Splatoon 2’s story mode, Maisie lived with Auggie for a bit to make sure she wasn’t still hijacked. She’s got a kind heart and a rough exterior, and she’s incredibly cautious around new people, letting other agents speak for her until she’s sure enough to talk to them. She has a limping gait due to past injury but she’s still very physically strong.

Quin took a long time to adjust to Inkopolis after octo expansion and over the course of that she got quite comfortable around Maisie to the point that when she moved back home, Quin followed her. So now they’re roommates!! Yay!!

Rika got fuzzified after running into the fuzzy ooze in Alterna one too many times (she never learns), and August is perpetually on babysitting duty. Rika will chase after any object thrown in her line of sight and Aug uses this tactic to get a moment of peace by throwing smallfry as far as she can to distract the other agent.

Maisie is essentially treated like August’s little sister and she acts the part. Likes sending her annoying texts (or rather, sending them to Agents 1 and 2 and telling them to pass the message onto August who doesn’t have a phone.) She’s very loud and extroverted, the perfect balance to Quin’s introvert.

Happy birthday to @avocado-writing!!

We have been moots for a lil while and sometimes I stalk your page for your tav content (your ART especially. the way you draw them is so so lovely) and I simply couldn't resist the oppurunity to draw something silly with tav and then all the OTHER tavs got involved and it is such a mess. Heat week always felt like a special kind of hell in Krovs where you couldn't escape the smell and sounds of sex practically fucking everywhere, but it was even worse in the Undercroft. Charlie was pretty much going out of his mind, desperate and needy but trying his best to not throw himself at whatever random stranger he stumbled across. Easier said than done and he was about ready to give in when he spotted a somewhat familiar face. The councilman who had the nerve to shoot at him. Twice. Charlie was willing to ignore it for now as he marched towards the master, glaring at him before he seized him by the shirt and yanked him closer, potential consequences be damned. "You should get me out of here. Right now."
