Chaka Khan: Funks Queen Doesn’t Need Your List

In recent news, it was brought to our attention that Rollingstone created a “list” of “200 Greatest Singers of All Time.” Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan landed in the top 40 at #29. Ideally, yes, the Queen should be in the top 40, but anyone listed before her is in question—This is where the issue lies.

Although, I will agree with RS’ description of Chaka Khan’s vocals as “thrill rides” cause, 1. My auntie (as I call her, out of fandom and admiration, not related, but respected) has “all the things” that makes her a superstar! She can actually sing. She has incredible range AND control. Stage presence, swag, and a long list of accolades. Chaka Khan got her start with Rufus as the lead singer, turned solo and continued to thrive. Her talent is infinite. Her musical abilities surpasses most of the artists in the top 40 (sips tea).

The creation of the list is quite puzzling, almost in comparison to the Grammy voting process. When artists who have not reached legendary status as Chaka Khan, but are placed in odd ordering of “greatest singers….” We just want to know under what considerations were made to determine this list?

The Chicago Native had a few things to get off her chest, but in all honesty, it’s BS. This list isn’t real. It’s their list, but it doesn’t symbolize or define Chaka Khan’s artistry, vocal abilities, record sales, Grammy wins, nominations, etc.

I’ll be the first to let you know that Chaka Khan’s mic is ALWAYS ON. She is a legend and a true performer and vocalist extraordinaire.
