Vanessa Williams, who lives with Type 1 diabetes, has a new song, "Legs (Keep Dancing)," coming out.
“What a joy it is to be making new music behind the mike again with old friends,” Vanessa Williams said. "There’s a certain comfort in creating new works in the studio while reminiscing about how so many years in this business have brought successes, excitement, and lasting memories. Always moving forward is what drives me. Every challenge is exciting. And more new music to share with my fans is the fuel that lights my fire.”
The official music video for the song will premiere on April 26th. She authored a diabetes-related book for children, “Healthy Child."

I designed the kitschy Piggy Bank purses with materials from the Dollar Store for my niece's Modafleur dress collection at last week's Luther Vandross: Never Too Much Music & Style Celebration!!
Jacklene Creekmore's collection of bold and beautiful clothing is not just a fashion statement but a reflection of the wearer's unique personality, allowing them to express their individuality and stand out from the crowd.
To add a touch of Southern charm to the New York audience, Allicia Mitchell came up with wig designs inspired by Priscilla Presley, Sissy Spacek in 'Coalminer's Daughter, and Lynn Anderson ("Rose Garden").
But the real showstopper of the night was my kitschy Piggy Bank purses that I designed as accessories. I used to work in the costume rentals department of the American Conservatory Theatre (ACT) in San Francisco, and I have designed costumes for a few theater shows in the past. So, I thought of bringing some humor to the fashion show and designed these fun purses.
I found plastic piggy banks for just $2.99 at the Dollar Store, and I thought they'd be perfect to add a touch of whimsy to Jacklene's beautiful dresses. I went to Rainbow, a women's clothing store near Port Authority, to find women's belts, and my hunch was right! Their sequin tube tops and pastel sherbet-colored leggings were perfect for a New Jersey girl out for a disco night in New York. I found silver hoop belts for $5.99 each and attached them to the piggy banks with adhesive silver metal hooks ($1.99 each). To make the purses practical, I added small change purses ($4.99) from Target in Saginaw, MI.
I started doubting my Piggy Bank purses when I entered the dressing room and saw all the designers' beautiful clothing. I thought, "Are they any good? Will they look stupid on the runway?" But once I pulled them out, the models swarmed around and giggled over them. To my surprise, three models approached me at the show's end, inquiring about them. I gladly gave them away with a smile!

When Luther's choreographer, James Ervin, mentioned that I pushed him out of his comfort zone, I decided to step out of mine, too.
I challenged myself to design two wedding dresses without a sewing machine, mannequin, or materials; I made them out of cardboard and bubble wrap and found materials for tonight's Luther Vandross Never Too Much celebration. I doubted myself over 40 times. A voice inside me said, "I was too old, I didn't have enough time, and I'm not talented or creative." I had to dig deep and remind myself what I have been able to accomplish in my life. I doubted myself when I first started Divabetic thousands of times. But I have never regretted it.
One lesson learned is that if you're willing to ask, a friend will help. My co-worker, Verna, volunteered to be my fit model. Luther's Head of Wardrobe, Pam Lewis, answered my call. Pam's advice, opinions, and encouragement helped me when I was going crazy. If you're reading this, please find encouragement or inspiration from my writing. You can do whatever that little voice inside you says, 'You can't.'

The Wiz on Broadway!! I loved it! I would listen to the original Broadway cast recording repeatedly. But I never knew Luther Vandross wrote “A Brand New Day.” This production has incredible sets and a fast-moving pace. Some costumes, the Tin Man, the Yellow Brick Road, and Dorothy, were amazing! Too many overalls and jumpsuits are never a good thing, and velour MC Hammer harem pants with tie-dye are never a good choice.
I adore Deborah Cox. Wayne Brady is great, too. It would be impossible to surpass Stephanie Mills, but the star did a lovely job in her role.
Last night, we celebrated the cast and his talents and artistry.
