Ronan was a successful amateur boxer with his eyes on the Olympics

Declan is his trainer

They have a falling out when their father dies of a drug overdose. Declan grew up seeing his father's substance use where Ronan and Matthew only really knew a sober Niall. Everyone has a lot of big feelings.

Ronan fires Declan and Declan lets him.

Ronan ends up getting injured, which is just fuel on the fire. His dad is gone (so is his mom, several years earlier), he is no longer speaking to his brother, and his hopes and dreams of an Olympic medal are gone

Ronan spirals but with the help of his friends and manager, he's able to right his ship. He's sober, working as an instructor at the woodshop at the local college in their art program and does boxing lessons on the side at Calla's gym. He works with other amateur boxers and does free classes with troubled teens

Ronan meets Adam while in the ER after getting clocked in the face by one of his students who moved too soon. He needs stitches. Adam is the doctor on call. He stitches Ronan up and Ronan fell in love with him the moment he walked into the exam room. Ronan keeps showing up to the ER after his stitches are removed because he wants to see Adam and Adam eventually confronts him. Ronan says he'll leave Adam alone if he goes out with him on one date. Adam says yes (because Ronan IS hot and works with troubled teens so he must have SOME redeemable qualities and isn't always insufferable) They go on a date and hit it off and are engaged in "present day"

Meanwhile, Declan married Jordan and they have two kids. He works as an art dealer. Matthew is the bridge between his brothers and has been trying to get them to reconcile for years. All of the Lynches have been in therapy (because this is fanfic and because I say so)

Adam has noticed how much Ronan seems to miss boxing. During Adam's night shifts he comes home to an empty house on several occasions and finds Ronan at the gym, boxing. They talk about Ronan trying to get back into the amateur circuit and making another go at the Olympics.

Ronan mulls this over. Talks to Calla and his old manager. They think he could pull it off. If not a medal, at least qualifying. Ronan calls Declan. They have an awkward conversation but agree to meet up. They get lunch, catch up, and Declan says he'll think about it.

Declan thinks about it. Jordan encourages him. She knows how much he enjoyed coaching Ronan, how much it meant for both brothers to be that close. Declan agrees to coach Ronan.

Ronan qualifies for the Elite team and goes to the Pan Am Games. He wins silver in his weight class, which means he has a ticket to the Olympics. Cue lots of crying and hugging and celebrating. His comeback story is picked up and followed. He does some interviews. This was obviously more than just boxing. This was Ronan and Declan making amends.

Ronan works his way through the prelims to the semifinals, to the quarterfinals, he's in the last bracket for a podium spot. Does he medal...? He'll get at LEAST bronze...

Anyway, as much as I love writing Pynch, I do love a good reconciliation story between the Lynch brothers.

Every night you dream that you talk to a genie, when you wake up you can't remember what you wished for. One morning you wake up with a giant crab pincer replacing your right arm. What do you do?

I call Kafka on his mobile and ask how best to proceed. Only Kafka doesn't answer, the shit. He never answers.

So. I phone in sick to the garage—thanking Mexican baby Jesus and Philip K. Dick for the invention of the speaker phone because, you know, only one hand—and try to get dressed without hacking off any skin with the new serrated limb. But then it hits me: why on earth am I getting dressed? Am I really going to leave the house like this? No, I realise, I most certainly am not.

Instead, I call up my good buddy Cate Blanchett, because she gets the best dope. Cate is filming but I ask her assistant if they can drop me off some Salvia, pronto, which they do; I have to get high af if I'm to figure out what to do next.

Smoking with a pincer is actually easier and cooler than you might imagine.

While off by tits and talking to a chair, I realise that I'm talking to a chair, and it then tells me to get my damn shit together. Thinking really, really hard (honestly it almost hurts in this state), the solution to the issue of WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK DO I DO NOW?! hits me: dreamwalking. Obviously.

Humming like George Harrison playing a sitar, I manage to drift off...

"Nanu-Nanu!" says Mork of Mork & Mindy fame when I open my eyes.

I smile and answer, "Wrong Robin Williams character! Sorry, Dream Robin Williams!" and swim away through the dream to the next realm...

"Oh captain! My captain!"...

"To Live would be an awfully big adventure!"...

"Make your life spectacular!"...

Floating, floating.

Until, finally, "To be my own master..."

"Genie! It's me, Crab Dream boy!"

The genie sighs, deep and audible. How very out of character, you think.

"Oh, yay. You're back. What do you want this time, hmm? Knees of an ant? A snake's chin?" He laughs to himself, a little cruelly.

Something is very wrong.

"I don't remember how I remember but somehow, I know this: you tricked me into asking for the pincer, didn't you?"

"Why, watever do you mean, child?"

A sick feeling washes over me. "You're not him, are you? " but it's not really a question, and the so-called genie, they know it.

And it's at that moment that Thor, the God of Thunder (MCU version) arrives on the bifrost, wielding Stormbreaker which, yeah, is cool af and everything, but in all honesty you'd be lying through your perfectly straight teeth if you said you weren't just a little disappointed it isn't Mjolnir.

He looks at me. Looks at my pincer-hand. Looks at the 'genie'.

Then, like a lightning bolt slicing through the atmosphere, it clicks.

The genie tricked me. The genie is mean. The genie is blue (and yeah, okay, that last bit tracks but still).

"Loki!" both Thor and I exclaim simultaneously.

... and that's where I wake, the sound of maniacal yet loveable laughter already fading like the sound of ocean the crab pincer came from swooshing in an invisible seashell.

A dream within a dream. How very Inception of me.

Blinking furiously, the laptop comes into still blurry view.

"Back in the walking world I see, Parrish."

Ronan.

"Barely. Ego had mirabilem somnia..."

Ro looks at me like I'm a clown.

"You had the strangest of dreams. Really."

Ronan had up dreamed live crabs only last month, filled my dorm room with them. Along with my new motorbike. Being the boyfriend of a dreamer who actually brings back the objects he drabs shit does have its advantages, as well as the opposite.

"Do you think it's possible my dreams feel more real when I sleep next to you?"

Ronan scoffs. "If they are, that has to be the least weird thing about us, Adam."

I smile. "The least weird thing about us, Ronan Lynch, is the combined amount of time you spend on Tumblr while in a magical farm yard, and how many times I can half-consume the Marvel movies while studying for never ending tests and at the same time manage to low-key vibe with local leylines," I tell him.

"Touché."

As Ronan texts Gansey, Blue and Henry, I attempt to get back to my trifecta of unrelated tasks, trying my very best not to fall asleep again.

More On If Mandroid Got Transported to Griffin Rock

The flood gates have opened. I'm seriously considering making this an actual fic. Some more highlights:

-ES timeline wise, Mandroid would get transported to Griffin Rock after the events of Age of Evolution, but before Home.

-The Burns family learns of Mandroid's existence via a phone call from Mrs. Neederlander complaining about "A suspicious man with a giant metal arm roaming around my house. He's scaring Mister Pettypaws!"

-Mandroid assumes he's been transported somewhere on his Earth. He'll start thinking something is amiss when he meets the Burns family and realizes that the general population has no idea about Transformers.

-Of course he starts asking questions and everyone thinks he's nuts. Cody is the one to suggest the idea of Mandroid possibly being from a different timeline. Doc Greene goes a step further and theorizes about Mandroid being from a different universe.

-Cody would be all "Noble!" about Mandroid having a Transformer arm until he finds out how Mandroid got it.

-Despite no one having any knowledge of the Mandroid nickname, it'd be either Kade or Blades that would come up with the name. Mandroid is of course pissed that the name followed him to a different dimension.

Morocco and Madeline Pynch would be mind blown that Mandroid has no interest in making money from his tech. Morocco especially. Both villains would want to team up with Mandroid but he'll be, "If I don't get to destroy Cybertronians I'm not interested."

3. What fandoms do you write for? I've mostly written drarry. I'd started as a pynch writer (TRC) and lately I've written a bunch in other fandoms.

5. Do you respond to comments? I do my best. I made a decision back when I posted a lot of stuff and got more comments than I could handle that I would only reply to the comments on the last chapter of a multi-chapter fic. Other than that, I try my best to reply to everyone.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I wrote a Major Character Death fic (The Death You Carry). Can't get angstier than that.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Most of my fics end happy, but now that I think of it they're mostly HFN in romance-genre speak. Happy For Now aka the fic ends with them as a couple, kissing or touching for example, the Ever After is implied but not explicit. Two fics which end with H/D living together, and thus more committed to each other, are Hush, darling and The Boy Who Died. These are also angstier than my other fics, which makes the happy ending sweeter imo.

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not hate per se. I've received demanding comments ("Can you write more? Another sex scene? And make it mpreg?") or comments like "I like your story but I can't read on because you have X topping". Not hate. There was a time, though, that I got several comments about how stupid/annoying/an arsehole Harry is, which reflect an attitude I used to see in fandom, where Draco is perfect and Harry is a bumbling fool and the minute he says something sharp to Draco he becomes an arsehole and should be screamed at. Needless to say, I hate this kind of interpretation. I deleted a couple of these comments, I just couldn't have them on my page. It was the reason I de-activated comments on all my fics for some time.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? The sexy kind, I hope LOL

Serious answer: I have written explicit sex scenes, although I tend to be more vague rather than write a play-by-play description of what is happening. I mean, there is some of that, but not as detailed as it can be. I don't know how to explain it better in English, sorry. Anyhow, I love sex scenes, I love reading them, I enjoy the challenge of writing them, and I think what I like best in what I read (and thus I try to emulate) is when a sex scene reveals the emotional state of these two people rather than just say whose dick does what.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I haven't! A couple of years ago I got a few asks about wangxian and drarry meeting up and although it was fun to reply to the asks and imagine how it would take place, I don't think I'll ever write it.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Someone screenshot dnab and posted it on instagram. The whole 40k fic. If there have been others, I don't know.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, a few.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I haven't and I'm not sure I could. I don't think my writing process would lead to successful collaborations. If I were to imagine it, the easiest for me would be that each writer has their own POV (I'd write Draco, the other person Harry, for instance) and we'd have a general idea but not a strict outline and we'd write it like a relay race: I'd post something, they'd write the next part, then me etc.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? I tend to move on from fandoms, so it used to be pynch, then drarry, now wangxian. I don't have a lot of time for fandom these days so I'm not as obsessed with a ship as I used to be. I love all my babies equally.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I started a fic with a magical university of sorts, or rather 8th year but they'd be more like uni students than normal school students, and Draco was a Veela whose mate was Astoria. Not sure where it would all go, but well--it won't go anywhere now, because I have so many other WIPs that take precedent.

16. What are your writing strengths? I'm decent at dialogue and I've been told my fics have great atmosphere. Occasionally I write an unusual turn of phrase and people comment on that. My fics are fairly short, but I've been told that they have a lot more story than the reader expected because of the word count, and I think that's because I edit ruthlessly.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Plotting is my main problem. I pants my stories and it takes me forever to figure out what happens next. I also lack confidence and doubt everything while writing, which isn't a writing weakness exactly, but it does affect my writing.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? It's cool. I like it.

19. First fandom you wrote for? The Raven Cycle. I was mad about pynch.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Currently 9 ½ Days but I have a very, very soft spot for The Boy Who Died.

Do you ever just got about your day, minding your business, and then you remember that we learn that Ronan—often—sleeps on the floor next to Adam at St. Agnes.

In a throwaway line that literally went over my head on my first read—SO MUCH SIGNIFICANCE to the development of this relationship in a handful of words, irrelevant to what’s currently happen in that chapter. And we never hear of it again, nor get to see it on page. This line that inspired the pynch fic with the most kudos on ao3.

Stief is simultaneously evil and genius, because I think about it all the damn time

wrt to the “adam shouldve been a visionary” dreamer trilogy/greywaren post i’ve seen a few times (possibly reblogged?)….well, maybe, but also no.

it’s not that i don’t have my own gripes with tdt (namely, yes, not enough adam), but i just…i can’t get behind visionary adam. not canon visionary, anyway.

like. you’re telling me ronan “the choice was death or hurting adam, which wasnt a choice at all” lynch would have handled it with ANY amount of grace if adam “i will be your hands. i will be your eyes” parrish was given the ultimatum “hurt others every time you have a vision and live, or turn the visions inward and quickly die horribly”??? no!!

and maybe in this alternate version of tdt that’s the whole point, yknow. if that’s what you want, ABSOLUTELY go ahead, dream on about it, write the fic, send it to me i’d love to see. etc etc etc

but the point of the dreamer trilogy is that it’s about ronan. so if we’re keeping with that vision (ha), and with the basic premise of the series, then no, i don’t think visionary adam is a good idea.

which begs the question…what WOULD i have adam do?

in all honesty i would keep call down the hawk essentially as it is bc i think it was good. it takes place during november, no? so potentially add in/exchange a shorter adam moment for thanksgiving break. he can help scry and figure out psychic things and be distrustful of bryde.

have winter break be during part of mister impossible. seriously where are adam’s school breaks lmao. adam is relentlessly practical and cares about ronan and he should be here to sow doubt and try to curb some of ronan’s more ecoterrorist tendencies. ronan can sneak around and hide from him and there can be tension and worry and anger. but also a lot of good pynch feelings still, ofc, bc its Them.

but don’t worry! they can still have a big fight/falling out over the ley lines/bryde/the ecoterrorism before adam leaves for school again. as silly as it is that ronan freaked out over an unread text when adam was literally napping, maybe this time it’s deliberate. or maybe adam really was napping again, or driving, or whatever. the rest of mister impossible can play out from there, or a condensed/reshuffled version of it to accommodate adam being there for a while.

greywaren can start the same, but for the love of god let ronan get out faster it is HIS BOOK. i do like henessey helping him do that i think its an important part of her character, and adam’s part in all that was very good and angsty so i wouldnt change it, but i would have it happen in the first half. ronan and adam make up and go off to do whatever was happening by the end of greywaren tbh i got confused. or something totally different! who knows.

also i just want to see adam interact with the actual visionaries and with carmen and henessey more and with bryde i think it would be very cool. very fun.

i also think gansey/blue/henry shouldve shown up literally ever at all but idk how they fit in so shh

It wasn’t solely in his head. That was the worst part. His head was a fractured and exhausted place, but he knew his way around it well enough. But this lived in the wilder terrain of his body, of his fingers curling—had they always done this?—at the sound of Ronan’s wicked laugh, of his stupid stubborn heart picking up its pace when Ronan’s name crossed his screen. It was in his veins and in his nerves and in other places he had spent too long resolutely ignoring to be able to control with any success now.
