Phylum Bracket Announcement!
Tumblr media
42 bacterial phyla, from two sources: Oren & Garrity (2021), and the list of recognized bacterial phyla under the ICNP as of February 2024. The Oren & Garrity list is more expansive, as it includes bacterial phyla that have been well studied, but not cultivated in the lab, while the ICNP restricts itself to bacteria that have been successfully cultured. 36 phyla were on both lists, 4 were exclusive to Oren & Garrity, and 2 were exclusive to the ICNP. Two phyla from the Oren & Garrity list were excluded for not being bacteria, as the list was of prokaryotic phyla generally.
The first round will be between 32 of the phyla, while ten sit out. Then the second round, which will be called round 1.5, will pair ten of the winners from the first round against those ten. Thus, after round 1.5, there will be 16 bacterial phyla remaining, and the tournament proceeds as is standard from there.
Here is a list of the phyla, organized (roughly) by clade and superphylum. Clades/superphyla are in bold and phylum names are in italics for clarity.

Hello, Anon, this is your Oldie Chinese Diaspora Anon™️. I am sorry to keep you waiting. As you’ve probably noticed, vinyl and non-resin dolls are usually not my forte. It took a while to dig up some information for you, but I hope to be able to answer your questions.
The advent of “Cheaper, affordable MJDs” didn’t come from the desire to make BJDs affordable. In fact, the technology that really elevated the production of this kind of MJDs started from what we understand as vinyl collectibles. These small figurines are made from a combination of PVC powders as well as a series of other emulsifiers, lubricators and activators (From the factory that produces them, here: http://www.dgzhonglinhb.com/news_content-859681.html ) Different companies have slightly different recipes, which would explain the different pliability of their final products. The technology was first created as a way to create memorabilia that are of limited edition and they were first considered as collectibles. They’re known internally as “Urbanvinyls” and include signed trinkets that can go for hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. Some examples would be KAWS, Kidrobot, Tokidoki, Bearbrick etc.
With the rise of “Made in China” soft power, the internally patriotic sentiment had fostered local artist-designed vinyl collectibles, which had eventually ballooned into the blind box craze that we see in the last 4-5 years. It also opened a door for vinyl/PVC based MJDs. I do not think they were specifically made to usurp the DD/SmD market, but since “moe sells”, a lot of the new doll companies go with the cute, anime-inspired aesthetic while the blind boxes cater to more design elements. These newly designed MJDs tend to be small, usually 1/12 and 1/6; larger ones exist, but they are rare. In all, they are created to be much more like their direct inspiration, the “blind box collectibles” than what we would usually consider to be articulated dolls. It also meant their target demographic is very different as well. The lower price point allows more people to impulse buy out of FOMO; these are things you buy on a whim instead of saving up to buy.
In this arena, Imómó is not alone in terms of aesthetic, pricing or packaging. Other companies in this group include Hüa Jüan, Tïny Fóx, UFdóll, CNDóll, Kimdóll, Pópmilk, Mónst and the upcoming YünLai/LückyDoll, etc (but not YMY – who has lost a battle with Piccodo for copying their body design recently). These dolls are created with a higher number in circulation in mind – but still limited enough to stimulate the FOMO behaviour – with shared features (sharing bodies, design elements, etc). To keep the production cost down, these dolls would be considered rather threadbare compared to BJDs. I have seen box opening videos where the floating “blind box” heads were packaged in a brown shipping box and wrapped around in clear plastic bags with no other packaging material. The “accessories” for these dolls are usually close to none as well – no or very simple COAs, basic box, air-filled tubes instead of fabric cushions, etc.A snapshot in time in online stores shows that Imómó is definitely not an outlier in the new era of MJDs: https://weibo.com/1448114577/Nj9fqfog3
https://www.dollyteria.com/product-list/58?page=1
If there’s something that really made Imómó stand out, it was the rumours that spread within Chinese doll collectors earlier in the summer of 2023 about the company not issuing legitimate receipts (usually with the intention to cook their books to pay less in taxes). They accuse Imómó of being a “Three Nothings” company (no date of manufacture, no QC and no source factory) with really awful customer service. They had registered the company as an “overseas-based” one so they would be in a different tax bracket. Some collectors also accuse the owner and their family members infiltrating doll collector groups to hype up their own products and downplay the complaints. A popular agent, SWDólls, were also implicated in helping them to not issue traceable receipts. (Details and screen grabs can be found here: https://weibo.com/7303299294/N8lHE6wGE?type=repost ) I have also heard of owners who complain about the parts not fitting well, the seamlines were wide and uneven as well as other imperfections that should’ve never passed QC, if there was a QC.
I understand that most of us, who are looking in from the outside, would wholly welcome a new era of articulated dolls that are affordable. They are a great entry point for people who want to get into BJDs or just want to collect these dolls on their own. I personally think they are great the way they are, because they are starting to populate a brand-new market for people who like dolls in general. However, the first company that most folks encounter in this group was probably Imómó. I cannot comment on the accusations made by the Chinese collectors; all I can say is, I am hoping that the other named companies start to make headway into the overseas market. We’d been waiting.
Note: The write up here didn’t include previously existing vinyl dolls such as Azóne and Obitsü or the vinyl versions of resin dolls such as Kinókó Jüice and Püyüdolls. This write-up only includes MiC, PVC-based, original, MJDs. My understanding is that they are not on par with the company in question in terms of price range, target market and country of origin. I didn’t think they’d make for a fair comparison, but your mileage may vary.

This is an atypical kind of review for me, but I thrifted this bag recently.
I have ADHD and lose my phone around the house CONSTANTLY, so I wear a cross-body pouch at all times. Cross-body so I have to actually think about it to take the bag off and set it down which I would also do, and then lose the whole pouch otherwise.
I did buy my older pouch on Amazon but it’s no longer available.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Link anyway - https://amzn.to/3WykTnS
It was about $15 and I liked it a lot, but it was also made of rather thin, fragile fabric that wore through after a while. I originally bought it in Apr of 2022, so it lasted about one year of constant daytime wear.
Anyway, I was looking for a new bag and thinking I might be happier with plastic because plastic is easier to clean, and happened to see this bright, eye-catching thing at Goodwill.
Tumblr media
It was $6.
It was sticky all over and had makeup smeared all on the inside. There’s only one divider in there so it’s not great as a phone pouch, really, but it works to keep me from losing my phone all the time.
L.A.’s Totally Awesome took care of the stickiness and a melamine sponge cleaned out the makeup.
With no branding on it at all, I figured it was something cheap (which is different than inexpensive), and found it online pretty easily.
Tumblr media
It’s from Fashion Nova. https://www.fashionnova.com/products/want-your-attention-crossbody-bag-multi-color?variant=12206161133692
Fast fashion is all over the thrift stores these days. I see Shein on the racks. It’s depressing.
Anyway. After wearing this around to stop me from losing my phone every time I blink, I have to say that it’s very annoying to wear.
The construction is ok. The brackets and closure and all seem sturdy enough, which is great.
The gold color on the chain is getting worn off because the bag is heavy and slides along the chain on those D rings as I move.
That movement of metal on metal creates a grating, ratcheting sound, and it squeaks. It also leaves black, metal dust on top of the bag.
However, that movement of the bag on the chain negates any need for the shoulder strap to move on my shoulder, which adds a little comfort. The shoulder strap is also plastic and I have to remember to wipe it down every day so it doesn’t cause breakouts.
The bag is made of soft PVC which is harder than a fabric bag, and it thwacks me on the opposite thigh with it’s relatively hard corner now and then as I move about.
It’s functional and attractive, but annoying. It wasn’t designed to be worn CONSTANTLY, though.

Homemade Solar Panel: Repurpose Old CDs for Energy
Do you want to join the renewable energy revolution without breaking the bank?
With just a few simple materials, you can repurpose old CDs to make a photovoltaic solar panel that can generate up to 12 volts of energy.
You'll be amazed at what you can do with a homemade solar panel - power LED bulbs, motors, and even water pumps!
So let's get started and make a difference.
Tumblr media
Gather Materials
To make your own solar panel, you'll need some recycled materials. These include aluminum foil, PVC pipe, wood, screws, washers, cable, and used CDs. By using recycled materials for DIY projects, you can benefit from repurposing old CDs and create a sustainable and eco-friendly solar panel.
Here are some tips for building a solar panel at home:
Start by disassembling the frame and use a piece of pipe to make a support that is inclined at 45 degrees.
Then, mark the position of the CDs and drill the holes.
After that, cover the frame with aluminum foil and stick it with adhesive tape.
Add the cables and screw the plug on the rear.
Finally, place the CDs and connect them with the electrodes.
Now you have a 12-volt solar panel!
Crafting a Solar Panel
Now, let's start crafting our own solar panel using recycled materials!
To do this, we will need:
15 used CDs
A piece of PVC pipe
Aluminum foil
A piece of wood
Two screws
Two washers
A piece of cable with terminals
A frame
With these materials, we will be able to make a 12-volt solar panel that will be able to sustainably power a variety of applications.
Here's how we'll do it:
Turn the frame over and mark where the PVC pipe will go.
Heat the end of the pipe and flatten it.
Mark three holes to screw the pipe to the wood.
Secure the support by screwing the pipe to the wood.
Cover the surface with aluminum foil and secure it with transparent adhesive tape.
Attach the cables and the CDs, making sure to connect the electrodes to the aluminum foil.
Place the frame and the glass protector to complete the solar panel.
With increased solar panel efficiency, our DIY solar panel projects can be great sustainable energy solutions!
Adding the Conductive Parts
You will need to cut a 60-centimeter piece of paper into three pieces and two 40-centimeter pieces. Mark a hole for the cable to come through.
Now, with the two 40-centimeter pieces, fold them to create two conductors.
Then, with the three 60-centimeter pieces, fold them to create three conductors.
You will then use these conductors to form the conductive tracks on top of the CDs.
To secure the tracks, use a transparent adhesive tape. This will ensure that the electrodes of the positive cable make good contact with the silicon layer of the CDs.
Experiment with different conductive materials to see what has the greatest impact on the solar panel's efficiency.
Creating the right conductive tracks will help to maximize the power generated by the solar panel.
Creating the CD Matrix
Start by gluing the CDs together in the center with hot glue.
Explore alternative materials, enhance solar panel efficiency, and design a compact solar panel.
Take the time to mark the position of the CDs and carefully drill holes.
Use heat to flatten the tube and secure it with the screws.
Cut the paper into 2 x 40-centimeter pieces and 3 x 60-centimeter pieces.
Place the pieces on the wood and mark a hole for the cable.
Put aluminum foil on the frame and attach it with adhesive tape.
Screw the bracket plug from the leg to the back.
Put the screw in the center of the holes and insert the cable.
Place the electrodes on the CDs and connect it with the cable.
Secure the CDs with hot glue and add a glass protector with an aluminum frame.
Testing the Homemade Solar Panel
Connect the voltmeter to check the voltage the panel is giving you. You can see it is providing a consistent 12.5 volts.
To test it further, you can also connect a 12V light bulb to the cables and it will turn on without any issues.
The fact that this power is coming from just a homemade solar panel is amazing and can be used in a number of ways. For instance, you can power a motor, a water pump, or even light your home. You can also charge your phone with it.
Comparing with commercial solar panels, it is just as efficient and cost-effective as the store bought ones.
However, the performance of the panel can be affected by weather conditions, so it is important to keep that in mind.
Summary
You can now enjoy the benefits of renewable energy without breaking the bank with your homemade solar panel!
With 15 used CDs and a few simple materials, you can generate up to 12 volts of energy. It's an easy project that can power LED bulbs, motors, and water pumps.
The best part is that you can save around 80% on your energy bill.
So, start the project today and get ready to reap the rewards of renewable energy!

I've got to get this shit off my mind or I'll go insane
GUTTER PROJECT:
TOP PRIORITY to preserve house integrity
I have 2 in shape downspouts. I need AT LEAST 3 more. unsure, I need to measure my house. How to do this? Will one of those long measuring tapes work well enough? I will need 3 adapters and 3 extenders to go with the 3 downspouts. I will also need the appropriate amount of brackets. I need the actual gutters that go around the fascia (?) of the roof. This will include 5 outside corners, 1 inside corner, and two end caps.
Last but not least, I need A LADDER so I can REACH. I will price check all of these tomorrow.
Should i buy all new gutters and downspouts to replace the aging ones that's on my house now? Vinyl stuff seems pretty cheap, but maybe that's for a reason. Aluminum is sensory hell. I could also get PVC pipe to extend the downspouts 10 feet away from the house as is recommended. Not sure what to do on the north side of my house, since it's directly beside my neighbors but I'll hopefully figure out some sort of drainage situation. Anything is better than what I have now, lol. Maybe I can hide it in the yard, and that way when I plant my native grasses, they'll have a little irrigation system.
Need to get three more flood lights for the motion sensor light in the front porch.
LIVING ROOM PROJECT:
NOT top priority functionally, but it depresses me how ugly the living room looks so I'd like to improve my QOL...
Currently have enough supplies to scrape and sand all the wood trim in the living room. Also have the appropriate amount of drop cloths and tape to protect the floors. Nothing is stopping me besides executive dysfunction and the front door. I really would like to take the front door off the hinges so I can scrape it and install the weather stripping properly. i don't know anyone locally that can help me, so I'm kind of fucked there. Once that's scraped, I will buy some semi-gloss Kiltz oil based primer, prime the trim, and ponder on a color scheme later (though I have ideas.)
Once that is done, I will start scraping the walls to prepare for my attempt at skim coating. Should I buy stuff to fill in the cracks in the plaster? Is that something within my skill set? or will this just add another layer of executive dysfunction that will block me from doing this?
Supplies needed for skim coating: Drywall mud, paint roller & long arm, bucket for drywall mud, tray for rolling off paint roller, drywall knives (whatever they're called), sanding blocks with an extendable arm. Eggshell Kiltz primer (probably not oil based, but I'm not sure yet.) Will ponder on actual paint colors later, though I have ideas.
Want the bamboo roll up shades, as they're pretty appropriate for the house and I like them more than these ugly wide white blinds. Want the rainbow privacy film you can apply to the windows so they offer some privacy while allowing light in.
BATHROOM PROJECT:
LOWER PRIORITY but it's also pretty ugly and since i have all the supplies, why not...
Pretty much have all the supplies necessary for this. Need to take down the things screwed into the walls (shelves, hand towel holder) and commit to scraping the wallpaper and old paint off the walls. Sand a little. Spackle some of the holes. Prime. Also need to scrape & sand & prime the wooden trim, same method as living room. Will ponder on actual color schemes once everything is scraped and primed. Probably no skim coating needed in the bathroom. Want rainbow privacy film for that as well. Maybe a bamboo roll up shade as well? Also find out if HVAC people can do a bathroom vent installation.
Want to get some floating shelves, or perhaps one of those storage things that goes over the toilet. Far in the future, I want to pull the old shelves out of the linen closet in there, clean it, spackle the cracks, scrape old paint off, and then repaint and install new wire shelves for better organizing. It'll look more "modern" but it won't affect the character of the house since it's behind a door.
YARD PROJECTS:
Rent chainsaw, buy triclopyr, cut down the nandina and other invasive bushes i have in my yard, paint cut stumps to kill.
Start planning what to plant in the early spring. Thinking of bushes for around the house and in front of the fence to block visibility to the road. Native grasses and small trees in the front and side yard.
Eventually I would love to have the fence facing the road replaced with privacy fencing, but this is not a priority yet. Also would love to find out if we could somehow pour a concrete pad on the south side of the house for parking, so I don't have to park in the street, or in the back yard.
OTHER THINGS THE HOUSE NEEDS
Get quote for bringing electrical up to code -> MEDIUM PRIORITY
Get HVAC unit tuned up -> HIGH PRIORITY
Get more insulation blown into attic -> HIGH PRIORITY
Get roofer to evaluate the water damage -> MEDIUM PRIORITY
Get plumber to look at our pipes and see if any of the old ones on the sides of the house can be removed, so there will be less holes in the roof (Plus it will look nicer) -> LOW PRIORITY
Get quote for installing a tankless water heater -> MEDIUM PRIORITY
Kitchen projects, mud room, and back area of the house are unfortunately the lowest priority right now but there's so much that I want to redo there too. It's just going to be way more involved, and currently it's "functional" so whatever.

Wing Update #9
Working on how the hinges are gonna work. Turns out i need to redesign them. so i did the theoretical work of how i’m gonna redesign them, now i just need the parts. Thus, here’s the list of things i need to get to make the hinges work as well as a couple other things to do with the harness.
•Fishing Line (better than metal for like six reasons)
•Leather IF fabric glue segment doesn’t pan out
•More belts
•Wood for the hinges
•Wood for the tugwheels
•Bearings
•Bearing Holders (bracket thingies)
•Pipe Brackets to attach PVC to Harness Plate
•Harness Subplates (metal?)
•Longer axel dowels for wood hinge
In the next couple days i’m gonna get a couple things done, primarily checking out this lumber store nearby that could be useful for getting the wood i need, and having my partner (who’s coming back from thanksgiving on sunday) help me trace some anatomy stuff onto the harness so i can stitch and cut it properly.
Soon i’ll be able to flap my wings. MY wings. Ones that are an actual part of me, not just some cheap costume ripoff. Sure they won’t be biological but they’ll be as close as i can get with the resources available to me.
Until next time
