April has been such a great reading month for me. I think I’ve read almost 12 books this month? Which doesn’t seem real but I guess it is. So here’s what I read in April:
Lazarus (AFTG 3.5) 5⭐️ {story link}
All Hail The Underdogs 5⭐️ {review}
Power Plays & Straight A’s 4⭐️ {review}
Foster In New York 4⭐️
Delinquent Daddy & Tender Teacher vol 1 4⭐️ {review}
The Foxhole Court 5⭐️ {review}
The Raven King 5⭐️ {review}
Mad Man 5⭐️ {review}
Mad Man bonus epilogue 5⭐️
Swamp Thing Twin Branches 4⭐️ {review}
The King’s Men -currently reading
Proficiency Bonus -currently reading
My favorite books this month were the All For The Game books. This reread was so good! It brought back so many memories and little things that I’d forgotten about them.

what’s proficiency bonus about? 👀
It was supposed to be a lighthearted "5 things Carlos isn’t good at and one thing he is."
I started writing it when I just got into the fandom and I might have different ideas for what Carlos would be bad at now that I feel I have a better grip on him. or maybe not. maybe I would just want to have a lot of fun with it, not make it too deep. I think I might just release some of it in drabbles by this point, since I haven't touched that WIP in months.
Here's a snippet:
Carlos wins at darts, but TK supposes aim is pretty important for cops. But then Carlos wins at pool and wins at bowling and technically, there is no winning at cooking but if you made it a competition, he would get the gold medal. At first, TK tries to be gracious. They’re freshly dating and he knows his own petulance like it sits beneath his skin at all times, but finds he doesn’t need to tame it around Carlos. He likes the way Carlos wins. It’s never boastful. It’s nearly the opposite. Like the sole purpose of winning is to impress TK, not embarrass him. Each time he wins, his already imposing presence grows and yet his reactions sand over any hurt TK might feel.
“I got lucky,” he’d say when he gets a second strike.
“My family plays cards almost every time we meet,” he’d say one lazy rainy Sunday after winning for the third time.
He even apologizes one time when he lands the final goal at the foosball table at the bar.
Carlos is very lucky he’s that hot, possibly even hotter for winning, because TK is unfamiliar with having a constant losing streak. It helps that Carlos kisses away his pout when he wins, is more confident when he takes TK apart on his couch.
Since winning makes Carlos bolder, TK doesn’t mind losing.
It isn’t until a few months in, at their second 126 hang-out, that TK learns what losing does to Carlos. He wondered, the first time, why Carlos had a Playstation he only noticed then and why he only watched as everyone took turns destroying their friends on the battlefield. In the end he chalked it up to the anxiety radiating off Carlos about being a good host.
But now, Marjan proposes a game of charades and since Mateo is sick, Carlos has no choice but to join him. TK squeezes his hand on the couch. There is no doubt in his mind that Carlos winning streak and his short stint in theater class will carry them to the top.

next week is going to be insane bc like. two (2) pcs have more than 11 hit points. half the party have negative strength mods. the tank is a child. two pcs are like 2ft tall max. the ranger is rolling every attack with net 0 modifiers. the bards only offensive spell is sleep. brennan told them they would be slaughtered in open combat and their only advantage was surprise and they immediately started loudly arguing about their plan and then failed the group stealth check like GREAT season for little guy enjoyers TERRIBLE odds of making it thru ep 3 without a pc death
edit: ignore the rosamund thing I wrote this at 2am i forgot bow was dex I’m just silly goofy

started listening to taz vs. dracula today after years of listening to no actual play podcasts other than eidolon playtest and. wow they're still playing 5e, huh. you really have to roll twice every time you wanna hit someone, huh. you really have like a dozen different skills you have to keep track of, huh. the dm really has to figure out the difference between rolling a 13 or a 14 on an animal handling check, huh.

Hello April! This month my reading life is being taken over by mostly sports romances. Mostly because I’m planning a reread of the All For The Game series to be ready for when the new book comes out later this month. So here’s what I’m planning to read:
Power Plays & Straight A’s -currently reading
All Hail The Underdogs -currently reading
The Foxhole Court
The Raven King
The Kings Men
Mad Men
Delinquent Daddy & Tender Teacher
Proficiency Bonus
Bonus Action
Swamp Thing: Twin Branches
I’m already feeling a bit unhinged with all the sports books I’ve got stuffed into this tbr 😂

Since '5 + 1 thing Carlos isn't good at' won the WIP poll game, have 16 (ish) sentences from it. This is them playing charades.
“Come on, we must have had the hardest words.” TK bemoans, as Paul and Marjan high five. Carlos has never looked more beaten down, his shoulders hunched low and his brows drawn in tight as he comes back to the couch. Quickly, TK wraps a hand around his taunt back. “What words did we have?”
Carlos mouth twists in time with the hands in his lap. “Envelope and angel.”
“Oh.”
“Wait,” Paul cries, eyes wide. “You’re telling me you had envelope and didn’t mime opening a letter?”
Marjan chimes in before Carlos can answer. “Why’d you point to your head?”
“For a halo,” Carlos pushes out through tightly pressed lips.
“You didn’t think to just do the classic circle over your head halo thing?” TK teases while miming the gesture.
Carlos leans forward then and crosses his arms. His voice is sharp as a dagger when he says, "Well it wasn’t your guys' turn, was it?"
Marjan's eyes go wide just as Paul pulls a face. The only one laughing is TK. He can't help it. He only laughs harder when Carlos shoots him a deadly glare. It's just so surprising how riled up Carlos can get and most surprising to find out the one thing he is bad at.
The game continues with Paul being marginally worse than the apparent mime Marjan, so they only get three points. Carlos scowl grows at every single point until it looks like steam is coming out of his ears.
When it's TK's turn again, there is a new fire in Carlos. Before TK can even start miming an owl, Carlos has shouted, “House, man, dog, a jet, a plane.”
“I- I haven’t started,” TK mumbles and gets interrupted by Paul yelling “No talking!”
Suddenly, Carlos’ ambition isn’t charming anymore. He is leaned forward on his seat, wringing his hands and shouting words like he’s a father in the stands whose dreams are placed on the kid playing football.
"Come on, T, next, next, next," he bellows when they finally get a point. When the time runs out just when Carlos guesses right, a slightly heated argument breaks out between him and Marjan.
thanks for voting <3
