Funny fic idea: zim and dib are fighting in membrane labs for some reason. He and zim somehow fall into a vat of something of course they crawl out and continue their fight. Skip to the next day and well dib isn’t in skool this makes zim worried skeptical of what’s happened to him. Later on the news it’s announced by professor membrane that his new youth serum works and that his son was the first to receive it. Zim enthusiastic about the fact that his rival is now a sniveling defenseless baby goes to exterminate him. Cue a few failed break ins and beatings courtesy of gaz. finally he has baby dib in his grasp! And dib retaining no knowledge of their rivalry just looks at zim with wonder and astonishment. Dib smiles making little cooing noises and zim….just… Can’t hurt him for some reason. In fact he’s got a new plan! he’ll turn his ex enemy into a loyal ally of the irken empire. And I mean teen dib would hate it so it’s still a revenge of sorts?
Anyway that’s the idea. Not really sure if it’s good or not but I thought it was funny.

more ideas for my invader zim portal au
so membrane essentially forced dib to become a test subject for the crime of being an autistic child/j no but basically it was because "if he isn't going to contribute to "real science" on his own, ill make him"
gaz however is a test subject because she thought it would be like video games in real life. membrane then realized that having his kids essentially imprisoned was better than having to be an actual father, and that his children (gaz, mainly) would take on his legacy if *if* he were to die
tak is a rouge ai in charge of the testing facility, zim is a "defective" personality core who was formerly attached to tak in order to prevent her from hollowing out the earth
gir is the little turret who could
the plot starts after dib has been testing for about a year or so (without dying somehow) when tak "accidentally" tells dib that gaz is also in the testing facility, and tells gaz that dib is still alive (after repeatedly lying about him and her father being dead) their goal is to find eachother and escape the facility together
upon escaping they are immediately draged back into the testing facility and placed in suspension
after 99999999999.... dib and gaz are both woken from stasis (separately) by zim who was definitely put in charge of the test subjects in stasis and not lying. zim tells them both that everyone, including their father and sibling, is dead.
(those moments at the beginning of the game where whetely isnt with chell? zim is with the other sibling)
gaz and dib are reunited after dib helps zim replace tak

Professor Membrane: Good or Bad Father?
I've decided to scientifically argue weather or not Professor Membrane from Invader Zim father of Dib Membrane and gasoline the other one by going through EVERY EPISODE of Invader Zim (that he appears in) and making a point counter of every good and bad action he does.

You know what still gets to me from Enter the Florpus?
This.
This one, brief moment with Membrane.
In this moment, in this exchange with Dib, you can see there's a lot going on in his mind. He knows what Dib wants to hear. He even knows what Dib NEEDS to hear, and some part of him even wants to say it badly, if only for the sake of his son.
But at the same time, he is Professor Membrane. A man of Science, and of principles- principles that cause him to see the world purely through the lens of proven scientific truth. Now, as the audience, we know for ourselves that everything Dib talks about is absolutely true, and more. But Membrane doesn't have that benefit… and even in a world where aliens, nightmare worlds and hog demons are real, paranormal research still attracts the same kind of grifters, attention-seekers and lunatic fringe that it does in real life. From Membrane's perspective, his son is staring down the barrel of a future that will have him as a social outcast at best and a criminally negligent scam-artist at worst. The kind of person who peddles theories about Atlantis and Aliens building Egypt on history programs.
Thus we see the conflict. This is his son's passion, and his son is all but begging for some kind of acknowledgement… but giving that acknowledgement would only help further cement what, from Membrane's perspective, down a path that will bring harm to Dib and maybe others. Especially with his endless insistence that the one, unfortunate green child is an alien… what if he ever accused the wrong person of such a thing?
Membrane WANTS to tell his son what he wants to hear. Membrane NEEDS to stay true to himself and his principles as a scientist… so he tries to find a middle path, and winds up saying basically the worst thing possible- an uncommitted not-answer that only leaves his son furious at him.
It's quite the leap from how he was in the series proper, actively belittling Dib's interests and not even attempting to stand up for him in front of others. To say nothing of his general distance and negligence as a parent, even though he DOES in fact care for his children. Invader Zim was an absurd and mean-spirited show that spared neither Zim nor Dib, and honestly I think that's a big part of why it endured for so long and what made its humor so memorable… but all the same? I do like that Enter the Florpus tossed Dib a small bone when it came to his family, and this moment is what really clinches it for me.
I dunno, I just really like this scene because of the layers I see to it, and its still my favorite.

So the Japanese Dubs for Invader Zim the Show and Enter the Florpus (or perhaps I should say ‘Florpus Keikaku’*) are actually pretty consistent. Even if they couldn’t get every VA for a side-character back, they at least got the same VAs for the Main Four (and it’s not necessarily a bad thing that some VAs did get switched, ETF!Japanese!Membrane is much better than Show!Japanese! Membran tbh). There’s a few tiny inconsistencies but I think most of them can be explained with them either only using a few episodes as reference rather than the whole show or maybe relying on the VAs memories from all these years ago?
For example, in the Japanese dub of the show, GIR usually refers to Zim as ‘Boss’ both in Regular and Duty mode. This quirk of his was retained in ETF for Normal Mode, but in Duty mode he used ‘sir’ instead. The use of 'Boss' as the consistent specific term for how GIR addresses Zim tells me they were probably trying to be consistent with the show’s original dub, but like... maybe Wasabi Mizuta didn't remember what GIR used to say in Duty Mode, or they didn't rewatch any episode where GIR is in Duty Mode for a significant amount of dialogue time.
And both the show and the movie refer to the Tallest both as just ‘Tallest’ transliterated, or as 司令官 (shireikan, literally ‘commanders’). But the show heavily favors “shireikan” and the movie heavily favors ‘Tallest’ - to the point the discrepancy is noticeable.
And in the show, Gaz and Dib generally address Professor Membrane as as とおさん (tō-san) - but in the movie they use パパ (papa) instead. Which isn’t technically an inconsistency between the movie and the show because there are a few episodes where they do use ‘papa’ as well, it’s just not as common in the grand scheme of the show. So maybe they just had those episodes where 'Papa' is used.... or since ‘papa’ is a lot cuter and more affectionate, that might’ve been a deliberate choice to go with ETF’s shift in the characterization of the Membranes.
So really, most 'inconsistencies' are not real inconsistencies at the end of the day and... actually, I can say....
That the most major actual change between the dub of Invader Zim the Show and ‘Enter the Florpus’ is that in the show, the Robo-Parents refer to Zim as ぼうや (‘bōya’, an affectionate but not necessarily familial term for a young boy).
But in ETF, they call him ‘Zim-chan’.
(*translator’s note: keikaku means plan)
