Not just limited to the Wittelsbachs and Habsburgs, but wondering since there was so many marriages between closely related couples, were there examples of look-alike couples? If Queen Victoria had married another first cousin Prince George, Duke of Cambridge now that would be a total look-alike couple.
Just grab any Bourbon couple lol. Off the top of my head: Francesco of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Count of Trapani and Archduchess Maria Isabella of Austria-Tuscany. Married or uncle and niece? If you thought "both" you guessed right!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another couple that comes to my mind is Prince Philip of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Princess Louise of Belgium.
Tumblr media
They were first cousins once removed (so not as closely related as the couple above) but I think their profiles were pretty similar:

Feel free to add your fav/least fav look-alike endogamous couple! (???)

This is random as fuck but I'm thinking about Henry's royal surname
So I happen to be a bit of nerd when it comes to British royalty, I literally don't have a reason for that except it's interesting to me
I actually really appreciated changing movie Henry's surname, until I found out they're real royal houses and started wondering about RWRB's history
In the book it was Mountchristen-Windsor, obviously modelled after irl royal family Mountbatten-Windsor, although Mountbatten was derived from the German Battenberg family from the Queen's husband, Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, which is also an actual place in Germany. As far as I can tell Mountchristen is entirely fictional?
Book Henry mentioned having a Great Uncle who abdicated because he was a Nazi, which is irl Duke of Winsdor, Queen Elizabeth's uncle (although the reason he stated was for love), so I think? That the lineage was the same until at least that generation. But Queen Mary, Henry's grandmother said she's been serving the country for 47 years, and Princess Catherine, Henry's mother is 60 years old in 2020, born in 1960, approximately the same age as Prince Andrew, Queen E's third child. Henry was born in 1997, and Prince William was born in 1982. So the generational year gap changes there: for RWRB there's four generations, while irl there are five generations in 2020.
So a bit of math here, assuming that the Duke of Windsor's abdication is the same as the real world, which is 1936, so the lineage is the same up to 1936. The book takes place in 2020, so Queen Mary ascended to the throne in 1973, 37 years after the Duke of Windsor's abdication, a reasonable amount of years for one monarch's reign. So that monarch is where things went differently. As for how it went differently...yeah I don't fucking know my brain cells ran out.
But Movie Henry's royal family name is Hanover-Stuart, two actual houses of royalty: King James IV&I of M&G belongs to the House of Stuart (so what the fuck Nick another coincidental connection between your characters) with Anne, Queen of Britain being the last reigning monarch of the House of Stuart (after her death her cousin George of Hanover inherited the British Throne); Queen Victoria was the last reigning monarch of the House of Hanover (her children belonged to the house of her husband: the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, which was later renamed Windsor during WWI). In our world, the House of Stuart went extinct in 1807, while the House of Hanover still has living members in Europe, granted no longer in direct relations to the British monarchy
So what I'm wondering if for movie verse, where the history of the British royal family changes for Henry to have this different surname:
For Hanover, it's possible that for the universe, Queen Victoria's children still bore her name of Hanover and didn't change it during the war, so the rest of the lineup to Henry kept Hanover. But I cannot for the life of me imagine where would Stuart come from given that the line broke off there
... yeah I don't know what point I'm trying to make or what conclusion I drew, but I used up an hour going down this rabbit hole. If my dad knew I was doing math for this instead of doing my calculus homework he'd kill me but whatever
Also I bet neither Casey nor Matthew actually thought this deep about such a minor thing this is how bad my rwrb brainrot is if we don't get something soon I'm gonna go stir crazy

Happy 46th birthday to Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Duchess of Västergötland!
Born on 14 July 1977, Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée is the heir apparent to the Swedish throne, as the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. If she ascends to the throne, she would be Sweden's fourth queen regnant (after Margaret, Christina and Ulrika Eleonora) and the first since 1720. Her inheritance is secured by Sweden's 1979 Act of Succession, the first law in Western Europe to adopt royal absolute primogeniture.
She was baptised at the Royal Palace Church on 27 September 1977. Her godparents included Crown Prince Harald of Norway (later king of Norway), and Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands (later queen of the Netherlands, 1980–2013).
Victoria was made crown princess on 1 January 1980 by the 1979 amendment to the Act of Succession of 1810 (Successionsordningen). This constitutional amendment introduced absolute primogeniture, meaning that the throne would be inherited by the monarch's eldest child regardless of gender. Prior to this constitutional change, the heir apparent to the throne was her younger brother, Carl Philip. He is now fourth in line to the throne, behind Victoria and her children.
On 24 February 2009, it was confirmed that permission had been granted and that Victoria would marry Daniel Westling in the summer of 2010. The wedding date was set in Stockholm Cathedral for 19 June 2010, the 34th anniversary of her parents' marriage. The couple have two children: Princess Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary, Duchess of Östergötland (11) and Prince Oscar Carl Olof, Duke of Skåne (7)
Often referred to as the "Godmother of Europe", Crown Princess Victoria is the godmother of eighteen children including: Prince Constantine Alexios of Greece and Denmark; Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange; Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway; Prince Christian of Denmark; Princess Eléonore of Belgium; Princess Katharina of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha; Princess Leonore, Duchess of Gotland; and Prince Alexander, Duke of Södermanland.
Victoria has dyslexia, as do her father King Carl XVI Gustaf and her brother Prince Carl Philip, and prosopagnosia.

Upcoming series: Ena
In September, the filming of Ena began, a biographical series that will focus on the life of Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, queen of Spain through her marriage to Alfonso XIII between May 31, 1906 and April 14, 1931, after being the monarchy deposed later by the proclamation of the Second Republic. Great-grandmother of the current king Philip VI of Spain, of whom she was godmother at his baptism. Throughout six chapters, the series will tell the life of Victoria Eugenie and at the same time offer a portrait of a time that changed the world, the first half of the 20th century, from 1905 to 1945. Born on October 24, 1887 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Ena was the daughter of Henry of Battenberg and Princess Beatrice, youngest daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Her godmother was Eugenia de Montijo, empress consort of France as Napoleón III's wife. The name of the series comes from what her friends and family called her since she was little, Ena.
The fiction is based on the novel of the same name by Pilar Eyre. Javier Olivares, who was behind the acclaimed Isabel and El Ministerio del Tiempo, will be the showrunner and plot manager for Ena. In addition to Olivares, the script is written by Isa Sánchez, Daniel Corpas and Pablo Lara Toledo. The series will be directed entirely by women: Anaïs Pareto, director of the series as a whole, in addition to four episodes, and Estel Díaz, who will direct two episodes.
“Ena is the portrait of historical moments that seem distant but are not so far away, because without them we would not understand the times we live in now,” Olivares declares in the press release sent by TVE. The writer and screenwriter remembers that Victoria Eugenie “fought to be happy in a bitter time, in which she witnessed two world wars, a civil war and a great pandemic, the tortuously called Spanish flu.”
For Pilar Eyre, author of the novel, she was "an extraordinary woman: cultured, supportive, liberal-minded, modern and very loyal." And she is excited because "finally all Spaniards can know" the story of a "misunderstood" woman. in their time, which they will always consider foreign." It is a fiction co-produced by RTVE with Ena La Serie AIE, La Cometa TV and Zona App. José Pastor, director of Film and Fiction at RTVE, has pointed out that "it is a "RTVE is proud to be able to portray this interesting historical character, from the point of view of two women directors and with Javier Olivares as showrunner, in one of its best series."
The Spanish actress of Anglo-Danish descent Kimberly Tell will play Ena and Joan Amargós will play Alfonso XIII. For her part, Elvira Mínguez will play Maria Christina von Habsburg-Lothringen, mother of Alfonso XIII. The cast is completed by Lucía Guerrero (Beatrice of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha), Raúl Mérida (Alfonso of Orleans and Bourbon), Juan Gea (Álvaro Figueroa y Torres, Count of Romanones), María Morales (María del Carmen Angoloti y Mesa, Duchess of Victoria), Pedro Mari Sánchez (Rodrigo de Saavedra y Vinent, Marquis of Villalobar), Luisa Gavasa (Eugenia de Montijo) and Joaquín Notario (José de Saavedra y Salamanca, Marquis of Viana)
Mariano Peña will play Miguel Primo de Rivera; Jaume Madaula will play the anarchist Mateo Morral, author of the attack committed at the royal wedding; Tomás del Estal will be Emilio María de Torres y González-Arnáu, and Ángel Ruiz will once again give life to Federico García Lorca, a character he already played in El Ministerio del Tiempo, among others.
The series will be filmed entirely in natural exteriors and interiors, like the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia), the Palace of Santoña (Madrid), the Palace of Fernán Núñez (Madrid), the Fort of San Francisco (Guadalajara) and the Magdalena Palace (Santander), built in 1911 by the City Council as a tribute to the monarchs and where Ena spent a good part of her summers in Spain, accompanied by the Royal Family. Filming for the series will continue until the end of December.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, the Magdalena Palace is going to be an important location during the series as a summer palace, the main filming location in Gran Hotel, and in that series Ena appeared in the episode 3×13, played by Aída Filx.
Apart from that, are we getting an Olivaresverse (XD)? Most likely not, and it's just references about his previous works as a showrunner, but there are connections between Isabel, Emdt and Ena: Michelle Jenner starring Isabel as Isabella I of Castile, then appearing in a couple of scenes in Emdt episode 1×04 and being an important figure in the lore as the foundress of the ministry (& Eusebio Poncela playing as Cisneros in both series, and also he played Cisneros in the film La Corona Partida and the Carlos Rey Emperador series); Alfonso XIII is a descendant of Isabella I of Castile; Ángel Ruiz appeard as Lorca in Emdt in 4 episodes and now he is on Ena playing as Lorca again, we don't know yet how much screentime he will get or which will his role be (secondary character most likely), but it's great to see more about him!
“I used to jokingly call the Windsors “lizard people” because of this fantastic conspiracy theory about reptilians that I once read. But I developed a profound respect for this family after watching a docu series about how the family survived anti Monarchy and anti-German sentiments that were transpiring in Europe during World War I. From changing their name to Saxe-Coburg Gotha to Windsor, sacrificing cousin Nicholas II, opening the Palace and reaching out to the common people, to harnessing the power of technology and Public Relations to further reach the masses (idea courtesy of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh), the Windsors played a complex game of strategy and survival - and emerged victorious. Some of their tactics may (or may not) have crossed ethics or morality (like how George V failed to save the Romanov family) at times, but you see, I’m a sucker for survivalists. No matter if the gameplan sometimes borders on ruthlessness, if necessary. While other monarchy families and houses fail to thrive and were eventually abolished, the Windsors continue to earn the support of the government and people around the world. I just hope KCIII would live up to the remarkable legacy left by his mother. By the way, I’m not British (nor a citizen of any of its commonwealth.) I’m not European nor American. I am a Filipino who admire the Windsors from afar.” - Submitted by Anonymous
Was Prince Maurice of Battenburg a German soldier?
He was not! Maurice was a Lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, part of the larger British Expeditionary Force. But, he was fairly German. He was born at Balmoral Castle, in Scotland - the son of Princess Beatrice (Queen Victoria's youngest daughter/child) and Prince Henry of Battenburg, an Austrian-born lower-level member of the grand  House of Hesse-Darmstadt, who were ethnically German/Austrian. But all four of their children were raised and educated in England under the close attention of their Grandmother, Queen V.
In 1917, anti-German sentiments were high, and the Royal family (and others) dropped their German titles and anglicized their names. The Royal name went from the German House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and the Battenburg's became Mountbatten, which you may recognize from the surname of the late Prince Philip, whose mother Alice was Prince Maurice's first cousin. Since Maurice died so early in the war, 1914, he died before many of his family members changed their surname, and so he's buried as Battenburg- but his siblings later changed to Mountbatten.
Post wedding do you think Rapunzel would change her last name to Fitzherbert or stick to whatever the royal family name is? Idk how it works in royalty irl let alone a fairytale world but I was just thinking about it
In the real world, royals do have surnames, even if they're not commonly used, and the British monarchy went from using dynasty names (such as House of Tudor or House of York) to using the surname Windsor when, in 1917, George V, whose dynasty was House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, wanted to distance England from the Germans at the start of WWI. He began using the surname Windsor, named after Windsor Palace.
When Queen Elizabeth married Prince Philip, they hyphenated their surnames to Mountbatten-Windsor to differentiate their branch of the Royal Family tree.
Therefore! Rapunzel most likely has a last name (many fans use Der Sonne because of Herz Der Sonne, but I've had a headcanoned last name for her for so long that there's no way I'm going to stop using it), and royalty can literally do whatever they want in that regard. If she wants to be Rapunzel Fitzherbert, she may. If they both want to be Fitzherbert-Der Sonne, or Der Sonne-Fitzherbert, they may. If he wants to take on her last name, he may. It's all up to what they want.
But Rapunzel Fitzherbert is a possibility.
Through her daughter Princess Alice, she was the grandmother of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The Prince and Princess Philip of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, whose quarrels have for many years furnished material for gossip at the Courts of Vienna, have at length come to the decision that life together is an impossibility; and therefore the Reigning Duke of Coburg has given his consent that the question of a divorce shall come before the courts of justice at Gotha very shortly, and be tried in due course.
The Princess Philip, who is still a beautiful woman, was only sixteen when she married Prince Philip on February 4th, 1875, who is fourteen years her senior, and who was even at that time, a man quite incapable of making his wife happy.
The Princess, who is the eldest daughter of the King and Queen of the Belgians, was a high-spirited handsome girl, full of life and very pleasure-loving, but with many amiable qualities and pleasant characteristics.
Her eldest son, Prince Leopold, was born on July 19th, 1878, while her daughter, the Princess Dorothea, was born three years later, on April 30th 1881. Her Royal Highness was devoted to her children, and while they were little she spent a great part of her time with them, and in this way was saved from looking for amusement away from home.
Prince Philip, who from the earliest years of his married life tried to train his wife to understand that marriage meant utter liberty for him, has naturally only himself to thank that his wife has taken as much liberty for herself, and that in consequence he has been put to the unpleasant necessity of fighting more than one duel on her account.
The Princess was neglected by her husband from the earliest years of their married life, and his open infidelities were the scandal in Austrian and Hungarian Society – the fact that he has on more than one occasion struck her being known by all. That the life of the Princess has not been what it should be is true; but Her Royal Highness suffered for many years before she gave way to her present extravagant manner of living, and had her husband been different, she would have been an excellent wife and mother, and have found a vent for her exuberant spirits in her favourite pursuits of riding and driving.
It was through the influence of Prince Philip of Coburg that the late Crown Prince Rudolph of Austria was led into the courses which ended with his tragic death at Meyerling. Prince Philip, who is the head of the Coburg-Kohary branch of the family, is enormously rich, and stated that he will not hold himself responsible for any debts contracted by his wife.
