#powder is like jinxs inner child

i just heard someone on youtube (T B Skyen) say that silco loved jinx but didnt quite know how to love powder, while vi loves powder but doesnt know how to love jinx. and oooof oof ouch yeah
also it got me thinking and obviously jinx and powder arent two different people shes just going by a different name now but its also not baseless to analyze them as different "characters", or what traits of jinx are part of powder, etc. like the animators literally have a trick where they change her facial structure how they animate jinx to show when shes behaving more like powder. shes completely changed who she is, its jinx now powder fell down a well, sat on the jinx chair embraces who she is etc etc
#powder is like jinxs inner child#while jinx is- or was before the chair scene- the persona she puts on where she loves Violence and Chaos and shes Crazy HaHaHaHaHa#so when someone says like. ''jinx is being more powder in this scene'' it means shes regressing into being more childlike because of her#trauma or maybe shes so distressed and emotional that her persona fell apart for a second and the sad child underneath showed through#''silco loves jinx but doesnt know how to love powder'' means he loves and supports her being confident and smart in her inventions and#trying to accept and move on from her past. but hes teeeeerrible at that bc he doesnt want to let powder heal#he just wants her to bury that part of herself#and vi loves and cares for her baby sister so so much but shes terrified and doesnt want to accept the reality of what shes become#i do think vi had a point before tho. powder Was in there and while that doesnt negate jinx she could still reach her#and maybe help her out#idk how true that is after shimmer and silco dying tho. again. chair scene. the persona has fully become who jinx is theres no going back#powder fell down a well#arcane#jinx arcane#powder arcane#ignore me im just brainstorming ive been thinking about this show CONSTANTLY for the past few weeks i have so many thoughts on everyone#im sure this is a conclusion people reached years ago immediately after the show came out but im slow#theres a point between the child powder and the crazy terrorist jinx where the real true her lies#and that point has been getting closer and closer to the jinx side

Lil' comic of a scene from a fic I haven't gotten around to writing.
(basically Vi and Jinx have reconciled, Silco is alive, and Vi is begrudingly finding herself beginning to look up Silco as a mentor/father figure. She accompanies him on an errand run, one of which winds them up at the old cannery, and emotions bubble up biiig time 🥲)

I'm living for your headcanons, in a totally normal way. Don't wanna crawl into your skin and take up residence in your brain, not at all.
Any thought about how Silco acted around Jinx when he first took her in? And vice versa. Do you think he regretted the decision at some point?
Thank you so much T_T<3
It brings me so much joy that you're enjoying the headcanons! Silco and Jinx are utterly deranged cuties and I have. so. much. to blab about re: their relationship with all its dysfunctional nuts and bolts.
As for how Silco acted around Jinx in the early days - I definitely think it took him time to warm up to a 'parental' role. Silco begins the series as a ruthless crime lord on the make, running drug schemes and clawing his way through an incredibly dangerous underground. As such, he'd be good at cognitive empathy, and manipulating/reading adults, then intimidating them into doing what he wants. But not good at compassionate empathy, because...
Emotions. Ew.
However a child - esp. a vulnerable and traumatized child - would crack that armor. I do headcanon Powder was severely out of it the first few months after the cannery disaster. Silco was also one of the few people demonstrating that her pain was seen, and accepting her regardless. As such, I think she fixated on him severely, regressing like hell and clinging to him like a little blue koala.
Silco would have to grow accustomed to his space being invaded on a constant basis during his non-criming downtime. I also headcanon he grudgingly let her sleep next to him during her early months, when her nightmares were severe (a habit she never truly outgrew), and that she insisted on staying nearby even during his business hours (hanging in his rafters, sitting on/under his desk, napping on his couch).
All of which annoyed Sevika to no end.
The constant proximity to a chaos-ball of emotions would have curious effects on Silco. For one, he'd have to learn to be more present, and consider someone else's needs before his own. For another, he'd have to evolve past seeing his life thru the lens of solitary intellect to something halved and shared by another person. She definitely filled him with a renewed appreciation for little things and tactile moments.
I also don't think he regretted taking her in for a moment. He and Jinx more or less 'chose' each other the moment she crashtackled him in a hug.
Ultimately, I think he parented her as a way to cosset his own damaged inner child. However, I say cosset and not 'heal' because, while he was patient and even-handed with Jinx during her meltdowns, he was also monstrously indulgent and established no healthy boundaries - likely because he wanted no boundaries after all the isolation and trauma he'd endured at Vander's hands, and thanks to Piltover at large.
I have a snippet from my fic Forward, but Never Forget/XOXO that goes into Silco's and Jinx's early days - if you'd like to check that out<3

Crossover concept: Tails, Passive!Nightmare and Powder being a bullied big brain child trio
Recently, because of Nine being the angsty child he is along with his design (his tails that struck me as tentacles at first) reminding me a shitton of Nightmare as the actual first ever character I was full on invested in and afterwards stumbling upon some arcane content on my dash, an idea was born
Ignoring the logistics of how these theree could ever find themselves in the same space together (mainly that two of them end up ded later dow their lives or which world would they even have the possibily of meeting each other in the first place) i think that they would be the best trio of missfits as they're essentially the same;
Tails was bullied, shunned and harrased for his extra tail, being seen as a freak because of it. Nonetheless he's a kid genius capable of creating both helpful devices and deadly weapons as well as devising exeptional strategies and plans on the fly(pun intended).
Nightmare was also bullied and ostracized for his negative aura, being the "evil" oposite of his brother and the overall cold exterior of his personality. So as a coping mechanism, as well as a personal interest, he hid himself in books mainly discussing science(not really the correct word but bear with me here) and how the world works; not nescesarly techsavy but curiosity is still there.
And Powder was considered a burden because of her clumsiness and low self esteem, coupled with her gadgets not working properly. She was seen as nothing more than a inconvinient "jinx" by pretty much everyone to a certain degree, except her sister. But despite all that she's extremely smart, capable and proven to have something there in the inventor's skill tree.
》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《
Just imagine Nightmare and Powder being absolutely amazed by Tails' technology that he built all on his own. Him helping and teaching Powder how to make proper explosives and her being more than overjoyed that the monkey bomb finally worked!!! Tails also making weapons for the other two to defend themselves with once they all return home, after he learns that both of them live in quite the hostile enviroments
Nightmare asking endless questions about how this and that works, how does Tails find the inspiration and materials to make all those gadgets, what is the science behind his ability to fly, if it's certainly safe to detonate that bomb here, what's up with all the silly drawings all over the granates and so on and so forth. Meanwhile the other two are buzzing with excitement while explaining every little detail behind the design choices and inner workings of their inventions
Powder accidentally breaking appart one of Tails' inventions and being set into a fit of panic, apologizingprofusely only to see Tails say it's all fine and either fix or build a new one depending on the damage done, within minutes. She swears she'll be more carefull and such thing won't happen again... exept it does. And the silly cycle continues. Powder also finally being able to sit in clean grass and watch the blue skies above, the smell of fresh air filling her lungs as she nearly chokes on it as she goes on, describing what the Undercity she lives in is like, with it's suffocating, polluted and overpopulated areas, unknowingly sending a shiver down the Tails' pine, because that sounds exactly what a world with Eggman taking over would end up looking like meanwhile Nightmare just silently wonders and imagines what such a dystopia world with dark skies and neon lights would look like
Just
Think abt them
I will probably add onto this in the future but just know this concept exists, I know theres someone else like me out there who would want to see these silly characters interact with each other (all before their traumatic turns of their past happened ofc)

Jinx (Arcane/LOL) As Your Girlfriend
Jinx (Arcane/League Of Legends) X Gn!Reader
Summary: What dating Jinx would be like
this is my first LOL/arcane writing so please lmk if something is wrong or needs to be changed
also i don't have a masterlist for these characters but i write for; jinx, vi, viktor, caitlyn, jayce, and silco so feel free to send requests for those ppl
Tumblr media
- dating jinx is a very wild ride, and it's something different every day which can be taken as both good and bad
- as we know, jinx is quite talkative so when she confessed to you about her feelings towards you, it was in the middle of a missions which was terrible timing
- but after the mission was a success (because jinx knew if she fucked it up that you would probably think she was an idiot or weak) and you talked to her about it, she was very excited and happy to hear that you had feelings back
- jinx has a lot of nicknames she calls you but the most common ones are "toots", "sugar", "trinket" and "angel"
- call her your lucky/good luck charm ONCE and she'll start crying because no one has called her that and it's the best thing anyone can say to her with her name literally being jinx
- expect to help her through her episodes, because if you don't then she'll feel like she really has no one and that you don't care about her
- when she does have an episode, it can be hard for her to calm down if she's on a mission and freaks out but all you have to do is take whatever weapon she has in her hand and toss it to the side and then hugging her while whispering sweet nothings to her
- now if the roles were reversed and you were the one who needed the comfort then for the first few seconds she would be freaking out as she didn't know what to do (yes, every time) before she would either drag you to her hideout and simply hold you through it or find something to distract you for the time being
- dates with jinx are always fun, exciting, and a little dangerous but she makes sure that there's a good memory for every one
- when jinx first introduced you to silco, he wasn't mad at all, and instead he just said, "well at least she has someone else to be with." with a barely visible smile
- meeting vi was a wild ride, and you were more scared of her than silco when you two first met but after she asked many questions, she smiled and gave you the okay to be with jinx even though jinx was right beside you answering the questions as well
- jinx loves throwing pranks, so expect her to ask A LOT for you to help her with making the contents or distracting whoever it was she was doing it on
- yes that also means she does it to you but not as often but when she does its a fucking mess everywhere because she always says "go big or go home"
- jinx is continuously telling you that she loves you at any given moment because she's worried that one day you'll just up and leave and she wasn't able to say it one last time
- cuddling with jinx can either be amazing or an absolute nightmare and you can never tell which one it'll be before it happens
- for one, she can never pick whether she wants to be the big or little spoon, and two, she can never stay in one position unless you have a iron grip on her to hold her in place
- or just talk to her until you both fall asleep in the middle of a conversation while playing with/re-braiding her hair
- obviously arguments do happen, and there are times where it gets...scary
- does it ever get one of you two dangerously close to being severely injured? it's rare, but yes
- but there are never any real injuries from either of you because of one of you realizing what could happen and immediately stopping it
- hand holding is a must with jinx, and most other forms of pda that she is usually initiating
- jinx isn't just jinx with you, she's also powder whenever you two are alone together and lets her inner child come out because she finally found someone she can be that comfortable around
- she loves finding random things (that are usually expensive and stolen) and giving them to you just to show how much she loves you
- jinx can't cook for shit, she's used to everyone else cooking for her so she has no idea how to cook even if she's reading instructions she somehow does it wrong so you better know how to cook or else silco or sevika are gonna be pissed at both of you for not knowing how to cook basic things
- its not hard for jinx to get jealous, but only because she doesn't understand how people can't tell your hers and so she usually winds up beating up the person flirting with you (or kill them, but she won't tell you that)
- jinx adores neck kisses, not just in the suggestive way, but in a cute way because she sees it as an intimate act and is always doing it, it doesn't matter where or who you're with (she leave marks most of the time)
- to jinx you are her angel that came specifically for her to keep her from going over the edge and to love her always and forever, and the longer the relationship keeps going, the more she believes it, and the more she falls in love with you

Could you rank the Arcane's characters from the best written to worst?
Hello anon!
I don't think there are badly written characters in Arcane to be honest. At least I have not noticed badly used characters or twists that made no sense in character arcs. Each character fulfills its role either thematically or structurally. And this is what a well written character should do to begin with.
Anyway, when it comes to the charactert that I personally find the best written, the answer is easy:
Tumblr media
The first season’s main focus is Powder’s journey to become Jinx, so it is not really surprising that they put extra care in her.
Her evolution feels realistic, layered and she never loses her core humanity that makes her sympathetic despite her spiral.
So, in the end... why was Jinx born? Who did create her?
Tumblr media
Jinx is Piltover and Zaun’s Tyke-Bomb. She is a child born in the middle of the two cities’ conflict and the combination of her environment with her inner fragility (powder) makes her detonate.
This is well shown in the opening scene of the series:
Tumblr media
There we see the same effect later used to convey Jinx’s confusion and mental illness. At the same time, we see how Powder has been surrounded by loss and violence since she was a small child. It is this violence that ends up molding her.
On one hand she is clearly scared and disturbed by it:
Tumblr media
On the other hand she is taught that she should become more violent:
Mylo: So stick with us! Take a punch or two.
Zaun tells its children that they must be strong, they must be violent if they want to survive. Vander himself has taught so to his family. So, Powder finds herself caught in this contradiction. She fears violence, but she has been conditioned into wishing to be violent.
What is more, there is an additional layer to Powder and the concept of “violence” and “strength”. For parents in Zaun, it is essential that the children are strong to survive. However, for Powder being strong becomes a necessary condition to be loved.
Powder internalizes that in order to be loved, she should be strong.
This is not surprising if one considers Powder’s early years and especially her parents’ death.
Powder and Vi’s parents choose an ideal over their own daugthers. They choose to go to war and leave their children behind:
Vander: I led us across the bridge, thinking that things could change. If I hadn’t, your parents would still be alive.
As a result, Powder learns two things about love. First of all, love is not forever. Loved ones can be stolen from you. Secondly, love is not absolute. There are some ideals that come before love, at least for some people. So, Powder does her best not to be left behind. She tries to be a part of Vi’s ideal as well. Vi wants to fight against Piltover, so Powder wants to fight against Piltover too. Vi is strong, so Powder needs to keep up.
If she does not, then she will be left behind again. And this is exactly what happens in Powder’s eyes here:
Powder: But families stick together. You said it yourself.
Vi: I know what I said...
Powder: I want to fight. I can help.
Vi: You’re not ready.
Her family leaves her to go fight a dangerous enemy. They leave her behind because she is weak. For Powder this is just a repeat of her parents leaving her and Vi.
So, as any well set-up bomb Powder clearly explodes and the consequences are devastating:
Tumblr media
Since this moment on, the whole story is presented as Silco and Vi’s fight over Jinx/Powder’s soul. However, even if Silco and Vi may seem as opposite forces in Jinx’s life, the truth is that they are not perceived as so differnt by Jinx.
For example, Jinx cares about them because both tell her that her being “different” is not wrong:
Vi: You know, Powder, what makes you different makes you strong.
Silco: Don’t cry. You’re perfect.
Deep down, this is what Jinx is looking for. She wants someone that would love her unconditionally, even if she is “different”:
Jinx: I thought maybe you could love me like you used to. Even though I’m... different.
Yes, here Jinx is saying that she is different from her past self, but there is an additional layer to this in how she deep down perceives herself as different, odd, wrong.
What is truly tragic about it, though, is that Jinx is never unloved. Many people care about her deeply. Vander, Vi and her adoptive brothers all care about Powder. And later on Silco starts caring about her too and Ekko is shown to keep on caring for her, despite it all. However, Jinx has internalized that all the love others have for her is somehow false, or at least conditional. They will betray her, if she is not useful to them (let’s highlight this really never happens). They will choose their ideal over her, if given the chance (again, not really true). Because of this, Jinx herself keeps sabotaging her own relationships. Especially, in the second part of the series. Vi comes back for her, but she is unable to truly welcome her sister back because she starts a one-sided rivalry with Caitlyn. Silco is ready to basically give up his life dream for her sake and Jinx is too paranoid to even realize it, until it is too late.
It is fitting that by the end, she symbolically chooses Silco over Vi after having killed him. A dead person, after all, can’t betray you and his love can’t change. It is eternal. If by accident Jinx had ended up killing Vi, instead, it is highlyg probable she would have chosen Powder instead.
So, in the end... who created Jinx? The answer is Powder herself, but also... the entirety of Zaun and Piltover whose conflict has defined Powder’s life since childhood.
In a sense, Jinx is so stuck in this conflict that she can’t even think to overcome it. She keeps going back to it:
Silco: We’ll show them. We’ll show them all.
The words Jinx hears in her mind through Silco’s voice are after all just Vi’s words:
Vi: Mylo’s wrong, Powder. You’re stronger than you think. And one day... this city is gonna respect us.
They are the words of generations of people in Zaun that have basically been living in Piltover’s shadow. They have been living in juxtaposition with the richer city, a sacrifice to progress.
So, by the end, Jinx simply takes the confusion and chaos she has inside to the outside:
Tumblr media
She does so because this is what she has been taught by her two role models (Vi and Silco). She does so, despite neither Silco nor Vi really wanting Piltover’s destruction by that point.
So, Jinx is a child caught in the conflict and as she grows up, she (together with Vi) ends up embodying this neverending conflict. As a matter of fact the two sisters’ relationship is meant to symbolically represent the two cities’ bond where one keeps living in the shadow of the other. As the story progresses, it is possible their own relationship evolves into that of the two cities’ more and more.
Thank you for the ask!

Arcane Characters and their musical history + music taste
is this in the canon universe or an au? idk. maybe a bit of both <3
this is my first hc post, so have mercy on me! i have no idea if i’m formatting this correctly. this feels like a thought dump. you can also tell that i was an orchestra kid middle-high school and that i’m extremely partial to jazz :P
Tumblr media
Caitlyn
• definitely had the classic piano + violin upbringing combo
• teen Caitlyn going ham at the violin? yeah. she was definitely first chair and everything
• her musical history is partly why Caitlyn’s posture is impeccable
• but truth be told…. our favorite enforcer has an affinity to the bass guitar
• which is HOT. (especially to a certain pink-haired someone)
• can sight read complicated bass lines and practices up in her room a lot, the amp blasting
• isn’t picky with her music taste but is nostalgic for pieces she learned growing up and a bit of jazz
• if she’s feeling particularly pine-y over a certain pinkette she’d pull out the yearning indie pop i’d feel
• i want to say she went through the dodie in her primary years -> hozier in her secondary years-adulthood pipeline but maybe that’s me projecting a little LMAOO
Tumblr media
Jinx
• learns music very easily, could play any instrument she wanted to tbh
• but is surprisingly kin to the piano and violin, and silco has her playing music in The Last Drop occasionally
• i love the idea of Jinx practicing piano, brows knitted in concentration, and Silco watching her from the door frame practice and master a piece like the dad he is (definitely brags to Sevika about Jinx’s musicality afterwards)
• Jinx memorizing children’s tunes to annoy Sevika (and maybe heal her inner child a little) and all of Silco’s favorites to make him proud (though he always is, regardless)
• is so. SO good at her bowing and picking (in relation to the violin). it might sound chaotic at times but Jinx’s pizzicato + staccato are always so clean
• in terms of general music taste, i see Jinx as a hyperpop girl but i‘m interested to see what other people think
• also indulges in very dramatic classical music- both listening AND playing, i know Jinx puts all of her emotion into the music she plays
• p!atd/fob/tøp phase HAD to have happened at some point
Tumblr media
Ekko
• local percussionist icon… everyone knows that Ekko knows how to make a good beat
• he’d tinker around and create his own instruments- better with every invention
• it’s giving rubber band guitar kid but 10x better
• got into drumming as a teenager and spray painted some cool (and slightly angsty) patterns onto his drum set
• also can definitely dance… not as related but…
• can play the viola as well and he played duets with jinx/powder growing up on the streets
• always thought that jinx was so impressive with her playing skills n he definitely tried to impress her with his own music
• this boy could/can VIBRATO!!! and he definitely smiles when he’s really into the music he’s playing too- you can see the joy written across his face
• he doesn’t play viola much anymore as an adult, not unless some of the Zaun children convince him to perform and play for them
• Ekko totally bonded with Jinx and their love for hyperpop when they were younger
• i feel like he’d generally listen to a lot of hype workout music, hip hop, and punk rock/alt rock
Tumblr media
Vi
• Vi never really had the chance to play any music, nor did she really have an interest in playing growing up
• but I’m thinking of her finding Vander’s old guitar in a storage room one day and being determined to play it
• she’s embarrassed to ask Vander for help and it definitely takes a bit of time but Vi eventually masters Blackbird (by the Beatles) with Vander teaching her
• Vi is amazed that her hands could create sounds so lovely, and falls in love with the guitar- although she never really gets to learn many songs before she’s sent to prison
• But with the help of Caitlyn, Vi is able to start practicing again (she only remembers Blackbird, thinks it’s a bit embarrassing) ((Caitlyn thinks it’s cute))
• onto music taste: this girl is mainly all workout music i’m sorry…. but there’s probably a bunch of alt pop like chase atlantic and the neighborhood. also- doja cat.
• can I say she still listens to the Beatles sometimes because it reminds her of Vander and her old family <3 (idk why my brain is INSISTENT on it being the Beatles but)
• thinks that boy bands are the funniest thing ever. secretly jams out to a couple of their many of their love songs due to a certain Kiramann. accidentally becomes a 1D stan because of it
Tumblr media
Mel
• was drawn to the cello from the very first time she watched an orchestral performance
• definitely vented out her emotions through playing music as a teen
• understands music theory really well and can play any tempo you give her
• would bring a small spray bottle for her rock stop (this is SO niche i’m so sorry i’m a cello player)
• first cello. top of the orchestra hierarchy in class
• Mel rarely has time to play anymore, but she gets extremely nostalgic listening to the cello and still uses it as a form of escapism when extremely stres.
• her music taste is. the Jazz in the Background playlist on spotify
• secret lover of ariana grande, taylor swift, and katy perry
• jayce walks into Mel humming California Girls once and almost loses his shit before remembering she’d murder him if he laughed outright at her
Tumblr media
Viktor
• always wished he could be in an orchestra but never did
• studied music theory !!!!! and adored a violin that Heimerdinger gifted him when he entered the academy
• I also feel like Viktor has piano hands and definitely knows his way around one
• composes most of the music he plays but also loves indulging himself in improv
• music is a very personal thing for Viktor so he rarely performs/shares his music with others
• Viktor can SING. but you’d never know and he’s never tell you.
• his passion for music is second only to his passion for science and innovation
• Viktor also seems like a jazz listener to me…. and mitski. and other Sad Gay™ music
• creature w/ orchestra by half•alive is the most viktor song on the planet. go listen to it rn
Tumblr media
Jayce
• trumpet kid (god i don’t know anything about band or band kids but)
• if he was in orchestra, he’d be THAT violin (derogatory)
• despite his big head, Jayce really is quite talented at the instruments he hones his skills on
• would be a very enthusiastic section leader
• front of the marching band, framed all of his band photos from “the glory days”
• Paramore boy. Ricky Montgomery. Imagine Dragons. very random music taste. closeted Lil Nas X fan (only Viktor and Mel know)
• I have a song for him as well. Vienna by Billy Joel <3

I am the monster you created / Jinx in lyrics
@scrawlers hey, sorry since this is a sideblog - I'll make a note to answer you
I think that it's plausible that it's a song about Jinx and Vi but it never struck me as such. Or only as such since the lyrics of the song and the visual create more meaning - the lyrics are centred around Jinx - or around Jinx finally fully embracing being Jinx - but the music video adds more layers imo.
The songs in Arcane function just like musical numbers in Disney movies - just adult version, Disney holds one's hand of what the lyrics means with visuals always reinforcing them, still they're written specifically for the show and the lyrics are not random and nor are the visuals/context. Since here artists had much more freedom - the lyrics of songs actually function like in typical songs, so like poetry.
Firstly, until Vi shows up back into Jinx's life, she was a positive force even when absent. Jinx tells her as much:
Tumblr media
Vi was the force that kept Powder, who grew up to be Jinx, alive. That is positive.
Their main issue the whole season is that Vi - being in complete arrested state for several years - can't extend full acceptance to who her sister now is. It's a shock to her, just as it's a shock to us the audience who only join in back on the story a day before Caitlyn rescues her. If the story was from Powder's pov we'd see her slowly growing around her trauma into Jinx and doing what Vi told her:
"What makes you different, makes you strong."
Secondly, imo. monsters have a very specific meaning in this story:
Tumblr media
Monsters are beautiful but scary things, that Piltover has no idea about. And everyone can become one.
And this is what monsters will do once they're created:
Tumblr media
Be scary enough that Piltover will never set foot and use force in Zaun again.
And this is the outcome of those two parts of what being a monster means, in Jinx's edition:
Tumblr media
This is what Vi encourage but then in act 2 and 3 had problems showing unconditional love for who she became (for now).
But really Piltover created Jinx, or where she was born and raised created her, I think that's how it fits together because in Jinx vs Ekko fight song we get her pov lyrics:
I might, just might kick your butt Go run amok then paint my nails Never learned to raise my hand Was too busy raising hell Everything I know I am (...)
This is who Powder grew up into, who Jinx is
Pressure's rising fast as lighting they can't stop it now If you ain't talking realness then just change the topic now
This is one of her main issues with Ekko
They laughing at the top like they can't see the bottom And they thought I needed help but I got here without them
This is her second issue with Ekko, how he doesn't stand with her against Piltover.
Enemies circled around me three-sixty I count 'em one-eighty
This is about Piltover being her enemy, even if she has adversaries in the undercity. She only counts as her real enemies half of the circle - one side.
We only see, not for the lack of trying, Jinx kill people in Piltover or on the bridge - never in the undercity.
I've been in court with the spirit beside me since I was a baby Just getting chaotic y'all made me a product for causing the chaos right here where they raised me
She is the agent of chaos because where she was born raised.
She is not monster and agent of chaos because of Vi, thou Vi thinks that is the case, she is one because where she was born and raised.
Silco aways thought the monsters were beautiful even if scary, and his own child 'monster' is just as perfect. So onto the second part of being a monster via Silco's idea of them:
Tumblr media
I am the monster you created
Vi set Jinx on the path of embracing her strengths, her inner monster something both beautiful and scary.
Tumblr media
You ripped out all my parts
But the next verse, instead of showing us Vi and Jinx - shows us her powering up the weapon to bomb Piltover. Because it's Piltover who ripped out all her parts, in chronological order:
1. Her parents - her father and mother - because of quelling rebellion with deadly force
2. Her secondhand family - the father figure and siblings - by pressuring Greyson to find culprits
3. Her third father figure - thanks to the peace conditions and before the escalating tensions no one in the council addressed
4. And when her sister came back she is not the same, she has changed, so old Vi whose voice picked her up for years is also gone - because Marcus locked her up for years
Those were all her parts, Powder "lost" her last part of Powder's family - the old Vi.
Now it'll be changed Powder and changed Vi, and they can figure how to be sisters again.
And now she's going to scare them, just like Silco planned for his monsters.
This is what Jinx will become once the rocket hits - the scary thing that no one in Piitover knew existed.
Tumblr media
I want you to hurt like you hurt me today and
This is where the lyrics land for Jinx, these are the people that started the chain of her misery and also her onto the path of becoming the monster.
I want you to hurt like you hurt me today and I want you to lose like I lose when I play
Make no sense to me if addressed to Vi, make all the sense that she'd want Piiltover to loose like she lost first time her monkey bomb worked
But moreover the lyrics are intercut with vignettes of other characters, and imo. the lyrics for them are chosen to fit future parts or future realisation of the characters, because if ie. they were switched around, they'd just sound awkward contextually.
Example lyrics:
Tumblr media
Sevika: Why don’t you love who I am? (note: no like romantically, but as a person sharing Silco's cause) What we Could Have Been
Tumblr media
Ekko or Heimerdinger: I am your ghost, a fallen angel You ripped out all my parts
Tumblr media
Singed or Warwick: I couldn’t care what invention you made me
Now as an exercise, if the lyrics here were:
I couldn’t care what invention you made me Why don’t you love who I am?
It'd make very little sense, but with "I couldn’t care what invention you made me" there are 4 layers of possible meaning: 1. Jinx towards Singed saving her life 2. Warwick towards Singed 3. Orianna his daughter towards her father if it's her in the locket and they both turned her into automaton 4. Singed towards Piltover if the Academy actually hushed up or made up false claims why he was thrown out of there - for being jaded academic, not because of his daughter
Because imo. the monster song starts with Jinx's painfully embracing she is Jinx, her monster side, but visually with lyrics the story expands to foretell other character's parts.
I mean that's how music videos, even ones telling basic concepts like Britney Spears & Madonna's - Me Against The Music (yep, this is my music taste) - construct narratives. There's lyrics / visual "Kuleshov Effect" (well it's not Kuleshov effect but the jist of creating meaning by not the single shot just the 2 parts together) between the visuals and what is said in the poetry.
I mean that's how I'd do it but I don't think theory since my art school and working briefly on music videos in the industry changed much. It's always better to create meaning/new quality with combination of visuals and spoken words/music. And Fortiche is much better than I could have ever been.
Because imo, most character's will share part of Jinx's story in terms of own character arc, but mostly the other scientists/engineer's.

I'm not into LoL but I've been watching Arcane and found your posts. Could you please explain why the cymbal monkey imagery from the “Get Jinxed” video is offensive? I'm interested to know how they managed to change that into something positive but don't have the necessary context... Thank you!
There's a reason I chose the phrasing "borderline" offensive; because I don't think its like a cut and dry: "oh wow that was super ableist" situation, but I can also understand why some people would react negatively to it.
Basically, in the Get Jinxed video, while Jinx is blowing up Piltover and fighting robots and whatever, the video keeps cutting to this image of a cymbal monkey toy with an evil face drawn on it. You used to see these things a lot in cartoons and such to imply a lack of intelligence, e.g. in the simpsons they would sometimes do a look inside homer's brain to show him being too busy imagining one of these things and giggling to pay attention to his surroundings.
The notion was essentially that it's a very simple toy, it just looks funny and makes noises, and therefore would appeal to the "simple minded" (yikes).
Circling back to Jinx, the implication with the monkey, taken in context with her very flat characterization at the time; is then that wanton destruction is her version of a cymbal monkey. She's not capable of recognizing the damage and trauma she is inflicting other, she's an overgrown child entertained by loud noises and funny sights. (Again big yikes.)
Original Jinx was very clearly designed to appeal to a very specific type of men, the kind who didn't understand who the villain in Lolita was. Original Jinx acted and looked simultaneously childlike and overly sexualized; with a teeny tiny bra drawing attention to her lack of boobs (not small boobs like in Arcane, absolutely flat as a board). She also had a clear, and often emphasized need for paternal affection, and suffered from unspecified mental illnesses that would make it hard for her to function in everyday society without a caretaker.
Basically, she was all but encouraging the presumed straight male player to groom her.
It's also very clear to me that with Arcane, Riot and Fortiche were very mindful of wanting to change that previous image of her. Hence why they changed her design to give her boobs (showing that she had gone through puberty), but also put her in a crop top that actively de-emphasizes them. And why they made her grow up with Silco, who despite his faults as a father, clearly loved Jinx deeply, in an entirely platonic way. (And would probably have Sevika carve your face off for even implying otherwise.)
The cymbal monkey gets a similar, but more explicit treatment for Arcane. Whereas before in League it was just kinda meant to signify "look at her she's craaaazy, here's a creepy noisy monkey toy". In Arcane, the cymbal monkey was the first device Jinx got working, but it's also the moment to Jinx where Powder died, and she became Jinx. It recalls both the trauma of losing her family, and her empowerment through becoming Silco's hitman.
Meaning that retroactively, it changes the meaning of a lot of things in "Get Jinxed". The cymbal monkey doesn't imply some vague "insanity" it references her inner struggle between the innocent girl she was, and the monster the world made her.
And the line "Let's burn this city to ashes, and see what papa thinks." No longer means "She has daddy issues and like blowing things up", it means she's thinking about Silco, and wondering if she's making him proud.
EDIT: I have been informed the line is actually “let’s see what pow-pow thinks” (i.e. her minigun). Still I maintain that the double entendre was deliberate, it’s literally the only time in the song she references anything League related, and the singer (possibly Agnete Kjølsrud?) barely pronounces the W.

Im too dumb to just pick one number SO
13, 35, 42
GO
13. What character or characters do you find most compelling?
Honestly Vi. Poor fucking Vi dude. Which is gonna suck when she becomes a fucking class traitor
And as much as I relate to Powder/Jinx there's a big part of me that feels completely alienated from her. Like already at that age i was on the "bottle everything up because you're walking on eggshells" so while i feel bad for her I do not relate to her at that younger age at all. Opposite directions I guess.
As for Vi, I don't super relate to her either, but i guess there isn't the inner child resentment going on. So sympathy for Vi it is.
35. What scene was the most heartbreaking for you?
1 single moment when Jinx asks Vi if she's real. That shit. That shit felt like a punch in the gut. Just getting my shit absolutely rocked by god.
42. What are your hopes for season 2?
okay so hear me out;
I don't want Lux to show up.
Like, DESPERATELY I don't want her to show up.
Listen. In the Ideal Lightcannon Storyline, Jinx's mental instability has some what plateaued? She's fucking insane but lost enough momentum that we call her quirky and not an ambulance. And Arcane is a prequel so it has to end with her on a downward spiral or rockbottom. If we want Lux and her's relationship to work out, they CANNOT meet during this time. Because of the preestablished character of Jinx in league, it would have to end badly or tragically between them.
I've seen a lot of people hoping for it but I don't think you guys GRASP what that would mean.
Jinx is not getting a redemption arc. Jinx is not getting therapy. Jinx is not getting a happy ending yet.
So don't wish for things, cause nothing now will end with her happy.

I really like the music video for Enemy by Imagine Dragons. Obv bc of Arcane but also it kind of illustrates and focuses on Jinx and Powder, her identity crisis, and the trouble reconciling past and present. Jinx doesn’t have any active role in the music video, often standing near or directly behind Powder. While Powder is breaking down and in deep distress. It’s this dialogue with the inner child, Jinx being unable to listen or accept the inner child that is in her, who is deeply tied to her previous identity. And by taking the new identity of Jinx she creates this extreme divorce from every dream and hope and innocence and connection. And it’s funny because our inner child is usually the one who got the brunt of our hurt and trauma, when we were young that’s when those things affect us THE MOST and form with our identity and how we react and how we handle emotions. So when Jinx ignores and casts aside her inner child, she’s in a sense doing exactly what everyone in the world did to her: abandon Powder. Powder needs Jinx the most right now and in the finale Jinx got rid of Powder, because powder did not serve any use to her. And it all goes full circle again. Powder in the music video is trying so desperately behind the identity of Jinx to be heard and to be seen and to be wanted, to be good enough, and it reflects on Jinx’s actions.
