А если серьёзно, то теперь это одна из моих любимых адаптаций Призрака Оперы. Сие великолепие ну уж очень непопулярно (я даже тексты песен не смогла найти), как по мне, незаслуженно. В нём прекрасно всё: постановка, костюмы, декорации, юмор, грим, и, конечно же, актёры. Думаю, как-нибудь позже ещё напишу о нём отзыв, а сейчас пока достаточно других забот.

rewrite nadir doesn’t have a surname, but he chooses a toponym because he had to give a surname when he immigrated to france. he chooses azerbaijani since that’s the province of kandovan (azerbaijan with an ‘i’ at the end)

Hi, I just found out someone is selling a whole bunch of YK Phantom playbills on Ebay. Where'd they even get them? Who knows!

(not all of them are this expensive.)

What an amazing finding! Truly remarkable, there are TONS of gems scattered all over.

Kristin Chenoweth is a very well recorded Christine - that as per the y/k standard where half of all the productions are loss media - meaning I deeply cherish the grainy recording and the exactly 3 photos I have of her

But all of that is from her Massachusetts run in 1994, this is the first tangible proof I have to show that she took part of the German tour to date other than dead-end articles cited on Wikipedia, so that's big news for me

I believe the listing of the playbill to be slightly misdated as other sources say Kristin was part of the tour in 1995, not 1994.

Another great gem is the mention of Ted Keegan pre-Alw's poto, if my previous assumption was correct; just months before being cast into production.

He was cast as part of the ensemble for what I believe was a very short stay, seeing I can't find any other sources linking him to the production apart from a throwaway sentence on his website.

I wonder how well know his participation in the show is in the phandom, performers being in both Y/K and ALW's phantoms are nothing new, but I personally don't recall ever hearing this fact

The last thing I want to talk about is this amazing photo of the original 1991 production, featuring what I'm fairly confident is Richard White and Patti Alison (who also reprised the role during the tour)

they come from things i fixate enough on. there's a whole process of how they come about, there's even a thing in my noggin called The Processor, developing f/os. i have other fictional crushes, you can ask for those but its a long list so these are just the ones that i pretend exist commonly. those are the f/os for on my blog.

Jill Washington was in the original 1986 POTO West End cast, listed as “Innkeeper’s Wife”. She started understudying the role of Christine in 1988, and became principal in April 1989. She left in December 1991, but returned for a new run from May 1993 to September 1995, and another from August 1998 to March 1999. She is thus one of the longest-running Christines in West End, with some 6-7 years in the role. Which also means she’s played opposite numerous Phantoms and Raouls. Here’s some of her Raouls.

Do you know anything about this actress called Tamara Glaser? I keep seeing her being really rude to people on Tiktok and I know she was in POTO but I didn't know if you knew her history with the show. You're the only real active POTO blogger I follow.

yeah tamra lynn glaser (i think she was maybe billed as tamra shaker when she was in phantom, so you might see photos of her also labeled as that) was the standby christine in the los angeles sit down production circa 1991. principal dale kristien preferred to do eight shows a week (and was allowed to do so) so they created the position of standby christine rather than have two understudies in the ensemble. tamra did perform briefly opposite michael crawford when returned to the role for a few weeks in 1991. so that's all true. HOWEVER tamra seems to like to lord the fact she was in phantom over people and use it to try to bully people DESPITE the fact that basically that was her only major equity credit, she's since shifted to teaching, and now she bullies young people on tiktok for unclear reasons.

for example, when people were posting their christine self tapes when phantom was doing a virtual open call, tamra would leave incredibly negative and unasked for feedback on those videos. she's defended type casting (basically saying that traditional casting is the only way to go). she's gone on several diatribes about how if you don't have a BFA in acting or musical theatre from one of like eight top colleges, you will never make it to broadway, using bad cinderella as an example because supposedly almost everyone has a degree BUT GUESS WHAT CAROLEE CARMELLO AND LINEDY GENAO BOTH HAVE BUSINESS DEGREES and also tamra does have a bfa from umich AND IT CERTAINLY DIDN'T HELP HER MAKE IT TO BROADWAY. and when anyone criticizes her, she leaves nasty comments attacking them and then blocks them. o yeah she's just a sad pathetic out of touch 60 something year old woman who has nothing better to do then pretend she's relevant.

Phantom of the Opera 1991 TV Movie Review

Before we begin I'd like to say that it might be a 4.3 on IMBD but it wasn't terrible.

The production quality is awful, it's filmed with a potato on a stage with a live audience, you can hear the air vents in the background. I'm going to give it a pass here because it's low budget 1991 here. The story is more important.

Now this is a musical, and actually it's not too bad. However, nothing is memorable; no lyrics, melodies, songs. The only thing I can really remember is the managers' duet with the Phantom interfering with his funny little shenanigans.

The story was okay I guess? I mean it's not terrible but I just have a few issues with the way they pulled things off.

The sets were hit or miss. Sometimes they were grand set ups that were beautifully made. Other times it was cardboard flats.

Anyway onto the important stuff, the Phantom.

David Staller, I liked him as the Phantom if I'm being honest, he wasn't as bad as some of the other adaptations I've seen. I absolutely adore his makeup, it's probably my favorite adaptation deformity, all weird and skull like.

My only issue is it takes waaayyy too much inspiration from the musical. Like you could put him in the musical and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

His mask is silvery and reflective. I kinda dig that, but it makes everything a little obvious don't you think?

Christine's character was okay, I didn't exactly care for how indecisive she was. According to this musical, she was first visited by Erik ten years prior to the events of Phantom of the Opera, so she must've been around ten years old (creepy).

The Daroga

I liked pretty much every aspect of his character, he seemed to be appearing in all the places he was in the book. My only issue is he seemed a little on the slow side near the end of the final lair scene. It's hard to explain, but it feels like he's not taking this as seriously as he should.

My absolute favorite part of the plot:

At the end, Christine leaves with Raoul (of course) leaving Erik alone to sulk. The scene fades to black and then a spotlight shines on Sorelli practicing her dancing. Suddenly, Erik's voice comes out of nowhere, encouraging Sorelli on and giving her advice.

So he really just pulled a 180 and went for the next girl he found, but I kinda dig the idea of Erik and Sorelli in this specific situation.

Final Notes:

6/10. The production quality was lacking. But the acting and singing was okay. I loved how the Daroga played a bigger part than most adaptations, I also love the involvement of Sorelli in the story.
