All He'd Had to Do Was Ask - jedibuttercup  Reese muses about him and Finch after the episode.

There aren’t many fics for Mission Creep, so here’s a fic set before Cura Te Ipsum: Of Bones Are Coral Made - callmecathy John's alcoholism, wasn't discussed on the show at all after he joins Finch and gains a purpose, this fic, deals with that issue, and depicts Reese & Finch's growing partnership beautifully. CW: Alcoholism.

For s1e04:

The Guy in No. 4 - richmahogany Set in the beginning, a scene between Harold & Megan Tillman, at the hospital - nicely done. 

Playing God - brodie-wan  John and his thoughts during the last scene of the ep (you know the one)

Andrew and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - ElliQuinn Andrew Benton's thoughts of the last scene of the episode. Well done, and quite chilling. 

He Has His Reasons - jedibuttercup  Post episode, Harold has some thoughts about John. Quiet, and oh, so good.

Cura Te Ipsum - PapayaK  A neat fic exploring why the title might have been chosen for the episode, beautiful - also explores the growing partnership between Reese & Finch.

Every Step of The Way - Maekala, Podcath  Post ep, as the summary says, without giving much away: Finch supports Reese's decision and stays with him every step of the way.  A beautiful fic showing their friendship, trust in each other - partnership solidifying. Also has a podfic link in the fic itself.

Lessons - Dimity Blue (Arnie) Has references to 1.21 Many Happy Returns. Post episode, Summary says it best, Peter Arndt and Andrew Benton don’t know that they owe their being in this predicament to the same man

wait drop the poi and buffy fic recs 👀 i feel like i have so much trouble finding good fic in those fandoms

my buffy interests are SO specific so idk if these will appeal to you: just a counterfeit james dean (faith/buffy), even death is a shadow of forgetting (faith/buffy), green smoke and empty mirrors (gen post-series exploration of dawn's character and dawn and spike's friendship. basically one of my favorite fics i've ever read but no pressure.)

poi (these are like the well known ones anyway. but they burrowed in my brain early quarantine and are still in there like a parasite.): the signal's just a roar (root/shaw, ABSOLUTE FAVE), natural selection (root/shaw, this is like the dta of poi fic. it is 500k and has an unhappy ending. i dream about it sometimes.), chaos theory (400k root/shaw canon rewrite. very good but also like, anti-harold, in a way i do not vibe with because i love him. YMMV!), nearly everything by thought, and you are not me (root study), everybody's got their limits (nobody's found mine) (also a root study. i am a rootcoded rootgirl.)

i have to also say i don't read fic that much because again hyperspecific interests. the amount of spn fic i read in 2021 was an outlier and should not be counted

I actually haven’t read a huge amount... BUT... (note: i have no idea what qualifies as popular):

in a canon or alternate-canon universe:

likeafouralarmfire and winged_mammal are probably my fav authors for shoot stuff, please read all their fics immediately.

i really like burn your fire for no witness which is a nice little character piece on root.

Camera Obscura great shoot fic with a happy ending.

if you’re an AU fan: 

oh my god. she’s looking at me.  is a great hsau with teenaged gay disaster root and super cool teen shaw.

The Catalyst Verse series is a fantasy AU that is a lot of fun. 

I’ve been enjoying It’s all fire and brimstone, baby which is a shaw makes a deal with demon!Root au. 

also i’m going to shamelessly plug my own stuff, (all in canon or alternate canon universe) especially Spaces which is my least popular on ao3 in terms of kudos but i think some of my best writing.

i haven’t read anything that’s not shoot so i can’t help there.

POI 01x18: Identity Crisis

1. Reese jealously calling Harold when Harold is talking in a friendly manner to someone else. A conversation about books!?! 😡😡

2. “That’s a terrible plan. But I like it so let’s do it.”

3. Reese going above and beyond in taking care of Harold (like more than keeping him out of harm’s way):

a. Bringing him donuts

b. Having a towel ready when he came back after being doused by the sprinkler

c. Blanket, water, and babysitting while Finch was high
