I'm once again having a lot of thoughts about Acheron and its place in the D&D planar system and just hear me out for a second.
Acheron is not exactly a well defined place. If you know anything about it, it is probably either that there are endless battlefields there, or that there are a lot of orc, goblin and hobgoblin spirits. And to be fair, these are pretty much the 2 features that set it apart the most from other planes, other than it being cubes maybe.
Now, each plane is associated with one or two alignments, which for Acheron are lawful neutral and lawful evil. I sort of see how constant battles could fit this, with there being some hierarchical structure to people take part in war, but why multiple goblin and orc gods presumably inhabit a place governed by law is such a wild choice to me. And, like, yeah assigning alignments to species is not a great choice to begin with, but I highly doubt that Gruumsh has ever been bound to some personal moral code. It feels out of place. And choices like this make it feel incohesive.
So I've been thinking what I would change about Acheron's identity, and I've been playing around with how its position in the planar wheel could influence it. It could have elements of the machinery, clockworks and metal from Mechanus, while leaning into the general humanoid shape and boney-ness that most devils are designed with. Combining these could make for a species that might look like typical undead, but where there should be sinew there are wires, where there should be bones there is a silver shine. Or the reverse, something that looks like some droid, but opening it up reveals a beating heart, metal pipes surrounded by muscle. Not quite undead, not quite robot, but a horrible mix of the two.
Additionally, it is worth considering that it is positioned directly across Ysgard; a realm of heroes and the courageous. So perhaps the people who end up in Acheron are the cowards. The people who took part in a system despite knowing that it was hurting others, not brave enough to stand up. Not evil because they came up with the system, tainted out of compliance.
Idk I just think there are more interesting directions to take this plane than just being the plane of war and orcs. You know how many planes know endless battle? Do you realize how many orcs are heroes that prance around the fields of Elysium? Just get rid of all these things and give us cyber undead pleaseee
The cubes can stay tho

Ramon's Guide to the Spelljammer Ward
More on The Spelljammer Ward?  But of course.  A brief primer that goes into more depth is surely needed, as only snippets have been touched on.  Yes, there is the Docker’s Catch club that tethers this realm to the Prime and to Sigil, but there’s so much more.  Having a membership certainly helps, especially with traversing this bloated burg turning city.  Measured by each side, it ain’t that…

With a name drenched in awesomeness, the PLOOPY headphones are open-back, open-source, and very tuneable. One major weakness though. Find out the pros and cons in our latest review!

The Editor's Look at Clueless Lore - The Fae
An Editor’s job is never done. Not only do I ensure high quality of the tomes I oversee, I am willing to play Tout as well for the Clueless lead astray by false notions.  Let us begin with another look at the Sylvan kind… perhaps some context that a certain bard left out in his travels.  No issues, as I pay him no malice.  However, ignorance is not so easily corrected.  Let us hope that we can…
