It takes all Adrien's resolve not to back down when his father stands up at the opposite end of the table. He stares Adrien down, carefully adjusting his tie. If only hiding the Miraculous from view was enough to let Adrien forget everything his father had done. "You invited who to dinner?" His father's voice is just a few degrees cooler than the drafty dining hall. Adrien slips one hand into his pocket, fingers wrapping around the earrings he's hidden there. His other hand makes air quotes as he speaks. "My girlfriend." The silence that follows makes Adrien sick; his father probably manufactured it that way. So much about Gabriel Agreste is an act. Adrien knows that now--especially now. After all, Adrien's become the latest player in his twisted games. But that's not the lie that stings the most. It's that he now has to convince his father that this is all part of the act. That Ladybug--or Lady Noire--means nothing to him. Really. It's that Lady Noire also knows their relationship is fake. That she doesn't want anything different. It's that Adrien will do anything to protect her. It's that he's terrified of accidentally leading her to her demise. Adrien swallows nervously. "I thought that's what you wanted, father. A chance to take her Miraculous."

when adrien finds out that ladybug has a crush on the adrien agreste (himself), he starts trying to manufacture dates for ladybug and himself as adrien while he's chat noir, especially after he finds out that ladybug doesn't have a soulmate mark, which means she's never kissed her soulmate (and she's never kissed him). however, ladybug keeps on refusing his offers to set up dates (it's because she already has a soulmate mark) (she's kissed chat noir) (he just doesn't remember) (and his mark is behind his ear) (so he's never seen it) (she's seen it) (when he asked if she had a mark she panicked and said no)

Do you think Chat dropped in on Marinette after Polymouse’s debut to express sympathy over Multimouse officially being replaced? (Ladybug has been known to bring heroes back despite an identity leak, after all, but not if there’s someone else who can take their place)

Omg I had never thought about this before but it's SO CUTE, omg I love it.

HERE’S MY TAKE:

Marinette is out enjoying the evening breeze with there's a clang of boots on metal behind her, and she spins around to see a boy in costume slinking along the railing of her balcony.

"Sorry, Marinette. I didn't mean to startle you."

"Chat Noir! What-- what are you doing here?"

"I wanted to check on you," he says, finding a perch for himself on the railing. "After everything that happened today."

"Er..." Check on her? Why? This is too weird... Marinette races back through the events of the day in her mind, panicking for a moment that Ladybug must have said or done something that gave her away. But no, nothing. She was just as careful as always! 

"Um, yeah! I guess it was pretty scary.” Leaning hard into her natural tendency for wild gesticulation, she flails her arms about to emphasize her supposed terror. “One of those mini-Malediktators took control of me like I was some kind of robot! And that giant flying leech thing--gross!” She shudders overdramatically, clutching her own shoulders. “What goes on in Shadow Moth's head, am I right?"

She glances at Chat Noir to check his reaction and, wait, why does he look confused now?

"No, I meant... The other thing."

Are they having two entirely different conversations?? What 'other thing'? The mayor’s terrible plan for the Place des Vosges? But they already dealt with that problem, too...?

A certain amount of honesty might be called for at this point.

"Sorry. I don't know what you mean." She fakes a sheepish laugh, just her usual spacey self, nothing to see here.

"Marinette..." His tone is gentle, sympathetic, and it might be touching if she had any idea what he was going on about. "It has to be hard... knowing she can't give you the Miraculous again."

Give her the-- Ohhhhh, that's why he's here? She'd almost forgotten all about deliberately revealing herself to him as Multimouse; it was only one of so many plans she'd come up with on the fly since becoming Ladybug. It surprises her that he's concerned about her feelings when so much time has passed since then, unless... Waitasecond.

"I'm not going to be the next Miracle Queen, if that's what you're thinking," she mutters, crossing her arms. Is that why he’s ‘checking in’? Does he think so little of her?

"No, no, no, I know you wouldn't. That's not you," he assures her hastily, and she lowers her hackles again. At least he knows her THAT well. "I just wanted to make sure you're okay."

"Completely, totally, one hundred percent okay," she promises, resting her elbows on the railing next to him. "I knew a long time ago that she’d never be able to give me that Miraculous again.”

Something about his silence makes her feel like she hasn’t quite convinced him. 

“It’s fine, really. Ladybug knows what she’s doing.” To throw him further off the scent, she offers a shrug and adds, "Besides, I’m not really cut out to be a superhero, you know?"

"No way!" The forcefulness of his response startles her, emphasized with a lash of his tail. "You were an awesome superhero. Ladybug and I never would have gotten our kwamis back if it hadn't been for you." 

A smile tugs at her lips. If only he knew.

“Come on, you know how it is,” she says modestly, giving him a light nudge with her shoulder. His tail twitches again for balance. “Ladybug came up with the whole plan, all I did was follow her lead. It’s easy to be a great superhero when you have a great leader.” Okay, so she’s not being modest at all... but he doesn’t have to know that.

He turns his head to look at her, something unreadable in his expression.

“I just think... it wouldn’t be a bad thing if she gave you another Miraculous. You’d be a good addition to the team.”

Wow... what a sweet thing for him to say, even if it can never happen.

“Thank you, Chat Noir. But you know, if she ever does give me another Miraculous--” Marinette gives his bell a playful ding. “I’ll have to make sure you never find out about it.”

5. what inspires you to write?

Music, sometimes, but more often it's other fics and stories I'm reading; a detail I noticed in the show; or thought experiments about what the blorbos would do in a given situation! My favorite source of inspiration is when an idea just pops into my head, but that doesn't always happen.

10. what are your strengths wrt writing?

I think I do a good job with characterization most of the time! I struggle with imagery, but I think I've improved over the last year. And I think I have a unique writing style (in a good way)!

I was going to recommend Emer as another obscure candidate for the sexyman poll in honor of someone in my old ward basing a talk around the guy (there are like six verses about Emer in total), but while looking him up, I discovered his son Coriantum, who got remarried at 102 and then spent the next 40 years having kids, so I'm recommending Coriantum on the grounds that he's got to have had *some* sex appeal to pull that off.

definitely tell me something i don’t know! I put all my love into it and it’s still the biggest writing project I’ve ever completed

12. what’s your favorite place for writing resources?

hmm. not 100% sure what this means but I use the dictionary and thesaurus a lot while I’m writing? lol. also I’m lucky enough to have gone to a few writing conferences through my job and those are always really cool and helpful tips! and I’ve gotten a lot of on-the-job writing training in addition to classes I took.

Trick or treat! 🎃⚰️

i decided to write a little continuation from the ask you sent me in the last ask game. it's not much but hope you enjoy!! (putting it under the cut because it's a teeeeny bit long)

Adrien had meant to be waiting for Lady Noire when she arrived. He'd wanted to greet her proud and tall, to reassure her he was very much fine, thanks for asking. He wanted her to know he was ready.

Instead, he hears her boots touch down as he's braced against his bathroom sink. Tension winds its way through him; he was already trembling, and now he can't stop. He can't relax.

"Adrien?" she calls out. Her voice is closer than he expected. And she's here, in the same house as his father. As Hawk Moth.

This is all Adrien's fault.

Footsteps approach, stopping in the doorway. There's a sharp intake of breath, and he knows it's too late to feign bravery. She's already seen him.

He tries to make his jaw work, to share some joke or witty line. But he can barely remain upright as she crosses the tile. He can see her reflection hesitate before she lays a gentle hand on his back.

She's here. He's not alone.

He can finally breathe.

"I don't want to do this," he chokes out. A hot tear slips down his cheek, but he barely has time to process that before she wipes it away.

"I know," she whispers, stroking his cheek. "I know."

And maybe she's not really his girlfriend, but when their eyes meet in the mirror it feels real, whatever passes between them. There's a sudden jolt--a thrill that grounds him to reality--and when her hand falls back to her side, her fingers brush against his. He grabs on before she can pull away.

Her eyes fall to their clasped hands, and a lovely pink dusts her cheeks. "W-we, um...we don't have to do this yet. There's no one watching us, so..."

"I know, my lady. But...I wanted to." He turns to face her for real; she's even more magnificent than her reflection. He smiles shyly. "Is that okay?"

She tightens her hold. "It's..." Her cat ears flatten. She bites her lip and glances away. "It's purrfect."

Warmth dances through Adrien's chest. Maybe things aren't so bad after all.
