ohh my god ok so i love clangen and the WONDERFUL Nimaereth created a mod that lets you customize and import your own cats into the game and i’m obsessed. i’ve had zero time to draw so i’ve been creating characters from my own personal warrior cats ““worldbuilding”” project (plus my beloved lightningclaw of course).
the folks working on this game are incredibly smart and do all this work for free, and i respect the hell out of them for bringing together such a lovely fan project! definitely show them support if you can!
credits: mod by Nimaereth (linked above), merle and abyssinian coat patterns by MagiBaxter, extra pelt colors by Eragona (no github link but can provide link to her thread in the discord server), just-some-cat for the original sprites, and ofc the clangen team itself!  if any one of you want me to take this down, just lmk! :)
more about these characters:
row 1: eclipsestar, murkmist, frostmoon
row 2: riverhaze, silvertongue, nightstep
row 3: wolfstorm, ashfrost, lightningclaw
except for lightningclaw, who is the SkyClan deputy, all of these guys belong to PineClan, which is one of the four clans formed far in the north after several lake clan cats were wrongfully chased from their home. their territory borders MountainClan and ValeClan, while CavernClan makes their home in the cave system underneath the three territories. they make their camp in a pine forest, but their hunting grounds also include a muskeg dubbed The Frozen Mire by the cats. most of their ancestors come from either ShadowClan or SkyClan.
their territory also includes the outer edges of the Fox Hollows, home to an intelligent fox pack that long pre-dates the Clans. PineClan maintains an uneasy truce with the foxes over the strip of their territories that overlaps, and as such all PineClan apprentices are taught to speak a little bit of fox. while it doesn’t always stop natural predator conflict, they live in peace most of the time.
PineClan prides themselves on their wisdom and history. they have strong oral traditions, and some stories claim to date all the way back to the old forest. elders are revered to a greater degree than in other clans, and their stories are a favorite among apprentices of other clans at gatherings. PineClan also has a role called the Lorekeeper. they hunt but do not fight or patrol borders, however their main role is to record Clan history. a large stone wall, sheltered from the elements in an abandoned burrow, is painted on to record births, deaths, and changes in position (think kinda like Paleolithic cave paintings).
their build is lean and elegant, their fur kept sleek and well-groomed. dark coats are valued for nighttime hunting, while tabbies and tortoiseshells are great for hunting in trees. many of them, oddly enough, have large and pointy ears, which legend says they developed to listen for prey in the silent woodland. their scent is reminiscent of pine needles, with a muskier undertone from the wetland.
i won’t get into it too much here but it is important to note that all four clans have a special warrior called their Guardian. this warrior is stronger and wiser than the average clan cat, and their soul is continually reincarnated. though not technically a Guardian, the “original” soul comes from Moonchaser, who led the clan cats to their new northern home. there is a LOT of lore surrounding this bit but think like a mix between the avatar and the nerevarine.
anyway cats.
Eclipsestar (Eclipsestream): current leader of PineClan. she’s chill. has a very relaxed and open policy to outsiders (the northern Clans usually do to prevent inbreeding, but even by these standards she’s very welcoming). was very young to be appointed deputy by the previous leader, Wolfstar, so her inexperience and the need to grow up quickly does sometimes still show. however, she’s overall seen as a wise and peaceful leader.
Murkmist: eclipsestar’s deputy and longtime best friend. while she disagrees with some of eclipse's policies, they’re overall a good fit for each other. sly and crafty, she’s usually the first cat to send when dealing with the Fox Hollows. not above causing drama with the other clans, but she will do so in a manner that makes her seem completely uninvolved.
Frostmoon: the senior medicine cat, very old by the time most of these characters roll around. strict, cold, and deeply rooted in tradition. as an apprentice she was considered a prodigy, but like eclipse, she also lost her mentor at a young age, which led to her developing a deep desire to prove herself. this led to her severely mishandling a situation involving the Clan’s previous Guardian, and many cats (perhaps wrongfully, perhaps not) sadly ended up losing their trust in her.
Riverhaze: frostmoon’s former apprentice. nervous, a bit flighty, and eager to please. not a whole lot to say about him, but he’s a good healer and a nice dude. despite his mentor’s failings, he’s still close with her.
Silvertongue: the current Lorekeeper. not a kittypet since humans are gone in this world, i just thought the collar looked nice. though he probably does have outsider roots. clever, sassy, good-natured, and takes his job VERY seriously. also nightstep’s mate, which means he puts up with a lot of nonsense haha.
Nightstep: the current Guardian and main character of this hypothetical story (and also the cat iteration of my beloved skyrim character, teravyn, though they’ve kind of evolved into separate characters). adventurous, impulsive, and gets into more trouble than what’s good for him. kind to the point where some might call him naive, but to his credit his heart is in the right place, and he’ll grow into the role. however, his impulsivity is again a problem, because he can be absolutely terrifying in battle. very close with wolfstorm and considers her a sister, and his mate is silvertongue whom he loves very much. his other best friend is a former loner called mireclaw, who’s not featured here.
Wolfstorm: young warrior, found by the Clan as a kit. assumed to be a loner kit, but her mother is actually the MountainClan deputy Magpieshadow, who secretly left her kit with PineClan after her mate died and she felt unprepared to raise a kit alone. due to her MountainClan genes, she’s HUGE (and fluffy) compared to the average PineClan cat. to wolf, the warrior code is...more of a suggestion than a rule set. she’s sneaky and not above stealing prey to feed her own clan, but by starclan is she good at staying hidden. some believe her blessed by the (currently unnamed) patron of stealth. very close with both nightstep and silvertongue, as well as another warrior called mireclaw (not featured here).
Ashfrost: a background warrior. also not much to say about her, but i like her a lot. you will never ever find her in the midst of any drama--she is too laidback and too chill with everyone for that nonsense. however, gossip? she is MORE than happy to listen to it, just don’t make her get involved.
Lightningclaw: my baby. my boy. go here.

BY THE WAY!!! WE ARE ACCEPTING NEIGHBOR CLANS!!!
I already have 2 people on board to make clans in this shared universe. Neither have accounts atm but this is okay they’re still part of it. There are also two clans I had ideas for, Hollyclan (mix between sort of catholic patron saints and Greek gods type of a thing, though of course once you take the clan it’s your wiggle room to do as you please) and Bloomclan, which is just a name the game gave me that fits the general theme of this whole thing. Plus I’m also happy to just add more in for anyone’s related ideas! It’s all about varying cat religions essentially, but also ALL of the religions are real at the same time, simultaneously believing they are ‘the right one’ as do all their followers. You know how it is! If anyone’s interested in joining this sort of shared universe thing just message me and I’ll send you a link to the work discord (aka the server where I spam Pineclan screenshots and ramble about cat religion) and we can go from there! Look forward to hopefully meeting some other cat religion enthusiasts

“Tell me Lichenstar, what is a lap dog compared to a dead one?”
The art above features Irisfoam standing over Lichenstar's body, with Midnightstar observing from the bushes. This was an entry for week 4 of our weekly prompts.

PineClan, Moon 0
All the happenings in PineClan seem to be revolving around the deputy, Rushmark, this moon,
He first watched on with pride as the favourite of his two apprentices, Bitternpaw, became a warrior and received the name Bitternripple. The tom is honoured for their kindness and Rushmark believes themself to be lucky to have been able to train such an amazing cat.
He then received some troubles from Silentpaw, his least favourite apprentice, as she refused to follow Rushmark’s order, saying that they went against her morals. Rushmark finds her irritating and prefers to spend his time training Burrowpaw, the daring and charismatic tabby that recently became apprenticed to him.
On top of all of his apprentice drama he was also recently caught enjoying a moonlit stroll with Fadedstar, causing whispers to circulate among the apprentices.

Dark Forest Resident: Laughingmoss
Tumblr media
Aliases / Nicknames: Fae Cat
Gender: tom
Sexuality: pansexual
Family: Buzzardsnap (mother), unnamed father, Mallardkit, Wheatkit, FidgetGuts (brothers), Bearkit (younger sister), Shrewfur (adoptive father)
Other Relations: Shrewfur (mentor)
Clan: Briarclan
Rank: apprentice
Characteristics: snarky, kills to prove a point, crazy stealthy, very soft and soothing voice
Number of Victims: 4+ (2 deliberately)
Number of Murders: 4+ (2 deliberately)
Murder Method: blunt force, tricking into fox dens, sending into cardiac arrest, accidentally pushing into ravine
Known Victims: Wolfsmane, Sara, unnamed medicine cat, Mudpaw, unborn kits
Victim Profile: those he accidently startles, those he is jealous of
Cause of Death: strangulation, killed by Wolfsmane
Cautionary Tale: N/A
Story:
Laughingkit was left by the ravine by his mother when he was under a day old.
A duo of hungry rogues were circling him, tossing the kit back and forth to see who would drop it first, or really, who would get to eat it first.
The laughter was what drew the Briarclan patrol in, and after the rogues were killed, they took in the kit.
He learned moons later that his mother was actually Buzzardsnap, who abandoned him in the forest because his black pelt would mean they didn’t have a reason for the Clan to thikg her son was a freak.
Laughingpaw was a good apprentice, if a bit unsettling. He had a tendency to appear randomly, and he always spoke of hearing whispers. Some of it was true, and some of it wasn’t.
The Clan called him a changeling, the kittypets called him a fae. He didn’t think he was either of those, he was just stealthy!
He never meant to startle his kittypet friend, Sara, into a heart attack.
It devastated him to know that she had been pregnant, but there was nothing he could do now.
He sobbed and sobbed, and eventually he passed out.
Found by her Twolegs, they took him in for a week or so and put a small bell on his new collar. He liked the sound, so he didn’t chew it off when he escaped from the den.
Laughingpaw decided he deserved to be a warrior after his grand escape through a window, and he asked the medicine cat if she could persuade the leader when he returned home.
It wasn’t his fault that she didn’t notice him creeping up behind her, and that she fell into the ravine while gathering moss.
Seeing her limp body impaled in the stones, he rushed back to camp begging someone to help.
With no medicine cat, his mentor lured him into the forest and told him it would be best if he left the Clan. His mentor, the deputy, was exiling him!
He begged to stay, but Shrewfur wasn’t swayed, and he lashed out at Laughingpaw, scratching across his eye and leaving him with blood pouring down his face, blinking desperately to see.
He felt betrayed that the cat who had been his adoptive father would do this to him.
So, he left. But even in exile he cared for his Clan, and he would send whispers to patrols on where to find the best prey.
He named himself Laughingmoss, and he became a bit of a legend in the short moon he was in exile.
Eventually, Pineclan even contributed the story of Fidgetfreak, who was apparently a ‘zombie’.. and Laughingmoss’s brother.
Even if his Clan didn’t deserve it, he grew bitter when Shrewfur was given another apprentice. Stupid Mudpaw was clumsy, and was easy to trick into entering a fox den.
He had always been good at manipulation, and he kind of hoped Mudpaw wouldn’t be too upset with him when they got to Starclan.
On a rainy night, he was patrolling the edges of Briarclan territory, staying out of sight from any passing patrols. He spotted a cat that looked like its patchy grey fur was falling off, and its fangs were far too long.
It was stalking a small Kittypet.
Laughingmoss threw himself at the cat, after all a warrior should be able to take down one mangy rogue!
But the cat, Wolfsmane, was stronger than he thought, and they fought for what felt like forever before the collar tightened around Laughingmoss’ throat.
Additional information:
--Submission by @wills-woodland-warriors
--Wolfsmane was a lykoi cat.
--The two rogues who attacked him as a kit will eventually be residents, alongside Buzzardsnap, aka Bitchsnap.
--He was 8 moons old.
--He becomes mates with Gremlinpaw!
--He has a pink collar with a small gold bell.

Short story; Skinned Echos pt1: Foxtails
Characters: GremlinFrost/SkyKit and GoblinSnap/QuietKit
Warnings: graphic gore, blood, death, vaguely implied cannibalism if you squint?, skinning
See bottom for more notes
SkyKit blinked, pawing at the small lump of fluff. The kit was so small, and with it’s fuzzy grey fur and pink nose making it look more like something out of the prey pile rather then a kitten.
“It’s not like I’m going to hurt it,” He snapped at his older sister, who glared down at him before stepping out of the den for a moment.
QuietKit pranced in beside him, a mouse hanging in his jaw by a split and mangled tail.
“Wanna fight for it?” QuietKit dropped the mouse at his paws, head tilted slightly to the side.
He shrugged, rising to his feet to pounce on QuietKit. The two kits rolled, kicking at eachothers exposed bellies and biting at their ears.
SkyKit twisted until he was on top of QuietKit, and wasted no time before he bit down on his ear, teeth sliding all the way through and ripping it.
He leapt off of QuietKit as he cried, and he jumped over to the plump mouse and sunk his claws into it. It squirmed before stilling, a pitiful squeak filling the nursery.
SkyKit swallowed, looking down at his paws. His claws sunk deep into the small kit’s chest, which was collapsed. He pulled his claws out in a panic, the skin hooked on them as he pulled and pulled until he was free.
MistHeart’s anguished cries were heard all night. The two kits were tossed against the walls, starved for the next few days. After all, why should they have the food that could have gone to little DewKit?
The two kits curled up together in the small stump they had been left to sleep in, just outside the warmth of camp.
The cold nipped at their fur and shivers racked their bodies all night. They pressed as close against each other as possible, desperate for some kind of warmth.
. . .
He pulled SkyKit away from the fighting, tugging on his ear until he was following.
“Why are they always fighting?” SkyKit muttered bitterly, muffled by the small spiky twigs in his mouth.
“Because we’re too awesome for them,” QuietKit imitated one of the prissy apprentice’s voices, sending the two into hushed laughs as they snuck around to the elders den.
Weaving the rose stems in was easy, just as easy as bitter berries stuffed in prey or positioning a dead snake from the prey pile into the warriors den to scare them.
. . .
GoblinKit and GremlinKit stared up at the leader, pelts prickled with unease. They were six moons, they should be apprentices! Not having their name changed by a former Kittypet!
The next night the two were leaping over fallen branches, their pelts gleaming in the moonlight.
They could do whatever they wanted now.
. . .
Training themselves was difficult, and if the fighting sessions became more and more frequent, more brutal, then who would notice?
GoblinPaw found it interesting how the skin tore, how they could sniff eachother out and hide and hunt.
Hunting small, useless prey wasn’t enough for him. He wanted more, and so did GremlinPaw.
. . .
Tails tore from their bodies, ears mangled into stumps and skin hanging from split tissue became simultaneous to shadowy nights and glistening stars.
Mama would have said GremlinPaw would go to the dark forest for this. But if starclan was where mama was, then why not have some fun down in the shadows?
After all, the dark forest would be a lovely place to hunt.
. . .
“There’s nothing wrong with a little.. hunting, is there?“ GoblinSnap stepped close to the smaller cat, his muzzle inches away from GremlinFrost’s ear.
“You should go back to bed before you get hurt,” GremlinFrost laughed cooly, unsheathed claws coming to rest on GoblinSnap’s paw.
GoblinSnap grinned, retching his paw away from GremlinFrost’s claws. He stepped away, eyes narrowed at the way Gremlin’s eyes lit up at the sight of the blood.
“Now, now, there’s definitely something wrong with that. If you want to go hide amongst the moss feel free-“
GremlinFrost bit down on the back of his neck, the tom finally shutting up as he pushed him back against the log.
“Ten minutes. Good luck.” Gremlin dug his claws into his chest, releasing the scruff of his neck.
. . .
GoblinSnap dug his claws into the dirt as he ran, panting heavily as he tried to remember the path.
His eye hung limply on his cheek, pulled completely out of the socket and hanging by a thread of flesh.
He leapt through a tangle of blackberries, the thorns pulling at his shredded pelt. He heard GremlinFrost on his tail, slinking through the thorny branches after him.
GoblinSnap twisted on his paws at the sight of the silver wire, turning just in time to watch GremlinFrost slide right into the fox trap, the wire wrapping around his neck and legs, cutting and pulling at the flesh until he could see bone.
GremlinFrost yowled out in pain, scrambling blindly to free himself as it cut into his pelt.
GoblinSnap pressed his claws against GremlinFrost’s caught leg, scraping against the bone and pulling the skin off of it.
Once the leg was thoroughly skinned, he gleefully brushed the yellowing leaves away from the wire, following it until he could pull the wooden stake out of the ground.
GremlinFrost lay beneath his paws, chest heaving as GoblinSnap untangled him from the trap, sliding in beside the injured tom to support his weight.
. . .
QuietKit tossed the fox tail to the smaller kit, laughing as SkyKit flinched away from it.
. . .
The fox tail wrapped around GremlinFrost’s skinned leg, the dull, dusty orange fur stained crimson with his blood.
GoblinSnap pulled the knot tight, cutting off circulation just above GremlinFrost’s leg.
One last hunt. One last seek.
. . .
GremlinFrost staggered through the branches, desperately trying not to slide as the bark dug into his bleeding leg with every step, the limb filled with thorns and wrapped in the foxtail, so stained and soggy that it almost matched his fur.
He leapt onto another branch, listening to GoblinSnap taunt behind him, his meows carried away by the wind and leaving only the haunting echo.
GoblinSnap was cocky. Arrogant. Selfish.
GremlinFrost understood his disadvantages. He couldn’t move very fast, he left a blood trail, and he was in a tree.
Except the pine branches didn’t have to be a disadvantage, did they?
With bleeding gums, he pulled off a sharp branch and dragged it across his skinned leg.
He let out a wail of pain, and looked down through the branches to see GoblinSnap grinning wildly at him from the bottom branches as he climbed.
GoblinSnap’s head hung limply, the skin over his throat ripped out and hanging against his chest, staining the remainders of glistening milk-white fur red.
GremlinFrost forced himself into a crouch, the stick clutched in his jaws, he stepped over the edge and barrelled into GoblinSnap, cries of pain echoing through the forest as the branches snapped and they skidded in the dirt.
. . .
GoblinSnap and GremlinFrost were found washed up in the river. A mangled branch passed through their eye sockets, impaled in each of their heads.
Pale pink tissue leaked out of the skulls. GoblinSnap’s neck hung completely broken against his chest, the flesh ripped off of his neck and leaving the vertebrae along his spine exposed.
Pus clings to cracked paw pads and maggots wiggled and dug around in GremlinFrost’s leg, minnows sliding through the water as they ripped off small chunks of flesh.
. . .
The clan grieved for the loss of two clanmates that night. QuietKit and SkyKit’s bodies drifted down the river, eternally entwined.

I’d absolutely love to hear peoples interpretations and/or thoughts for these characters!
I’ll soon have their dark forest mini bios added onto @residents-of-the-darkforest , so I’ll link that when it’s posted.
I’ll also have some picrews and a picrew I’m drawing over to add the gore-y wounds
I was listening to “you can’t hide by CK9C” so I guess you could say that’s their theme song?

Roarkit wasn’t born in Pineclan, but the steep pine forests of Pineclan territory are the only home Roarkit can recall. Unaware of his origin, Roarkit was stolen from Hollyclan during a raid on their camp, with the goal of ‘saving his soul’ and ‘raising him honorably’, ‘ensuring his eventual arrival in Starclan’. However, in a clan where no one looks or sounds like him, where no one claims him as family, he can’t help but feel like the outsider everyone else knows he really is. The more murmurs he hears amongst his clanmates, the more convinced he becomes there’s something to the reason he feels so displaced.
