Episode 14 Breakdown

Ji Danyang is rushed to sugery and the police team wait worriedly outside. The Police Department Chief suspends both Officers Hongmei and Ding, pending investigation. Nurse Bai is interviewed and asked what happened and if anyone else knew of their plan to go up the mountain. She admits that she was delayed so didn't meet them as planned and only made it to the mountain in time to see him fall. She advises that the nurses station heard the phonecall but doesn't say anything about her father or the woodcutter who saw him there.

The police team search the mountain for clues, and the experts are given the bag of rutile stones that Ji Danyang had collected and bemoan the situation.

Dr Bai shows up at the factory because Nurse Bai hasn't come home, angry that she is being treated suspiciously. Police Captain Chen allows her to leave as she saved Ji Danyang and has cooperated with everything they've asked of her. Back at home, Nurse Bai confronts her father and admits to him that the wood cutter told her he was seen, but she withheld that information from the police because she didn't want to risk him being implicated.

The next morning Nurse Bai asks her father if he would treat Ji Danyang like he did Zhang A Shui but Dr Bai is reluctant, using the excuse that if his treatment didn't work then they would be blamed for his death.

Police Captain Chen takes pity on Officer Hongmei and even though suspended, he assigns her to watch over Ji Danyang. Nurse Bai is not so fortunate, despite Nurse Leader Ge speaking up for her, the factory chief will only let Nurse Bai work in the general hospital area but not the ward where Ji Danyang is. The expert leader, factory chief and head surgeon discuss his prognosis, and worry that the travel to any bigger city's hospital would be too risky. Officer Hongmei tends to Ji Danyang, promising him that she won't be combative if he will just wake up.

Nurse Bai's involvement with Ji Danyang, the investigation and her subsequent restrictions are gossiped about by the other nurses. Officer Hongmei visits Nurse Bai and they each blame themselves for not protecting Ji Danyang and for taking him up the mountain at all. Officer Hongmei asks Nurse Bai for her father's help, and visits Dr Bai herself to beg for his assistance. Truck driver Lai Guangrun watches on as Dr Bai refuses her too.

At home Nurse Bai studies for any possible cure, and refuses to stop being friends with Ji Danyang when Dr Bai tells her to. Even after being told that if Ji Danyang doesn't wake up in the next 2 days he will be crippled for life, Dr Bai continues to refuse to help, but is feeling the toll of all of the requests.

This episode is ALL the crying and ALL the begging. Our math man is in a bad way and everyone is hit hard by it. But as my dad always said "if the show is on again next week, then he'll live."

Dr Bai is such a great character in this and his conflict is so brilliant to watch! He hurt our math man because he would do anything to keep his daughter safe and now has to refuse his daughter's plea to help.

The story has set up the parallel of Zhang A Shui and Ji Danyang having similar head injuries, how do you justify agreeing to save the enemy but denying to save the expert when the truth is mixed with treason? When he knows he must be being watched?

He may have nearly killed our beloved math man, but I can't hate him for it. I WILL hate Lai Guangran however, all he knows how to do threaten the women in his cohorts lives. And he's a terrible painter too! (Actually we've only seen one of his paintings, I'm just being spiteful)

I feel like by the time I manage to convince myself to update my resume and apply for this library position it'll already be filled, but I guess I need to do the mental/emotional work on myself first because I'm still traumatized by my last job gosh darn it. =_=

Ways library job would not be like old job:

Not cooped up in a literal closet/fluctuating social contact/likelihood of seeing many friendly faces I haven't seen in years

Fewer opportunities for my dyscalculia to fuck with me/little to no math

More chances to move around physically

So many windows so much natural light

Good noise levels and socially inforced quietness/general pleasant library sounds/less strain on my audio processing issues

BOOKSMELL OuO

Stimulating environment in general, good for adhd entertainment seeking brain

$14 an hour is more than I ever made in payroll

Probably less weird dresscode/can be more visibly queer than old job

Statistically likely to be fewer people calling angry about numbers

Might not have to deal with phonecalls at all

No mom freaking out at me to look busy (the stacks can take care of any residual anxiety)

Did I mention less isolated, cuz that's a biggie

Organizational systems that make sense

Access to more fun creative stuff than a boring Payroll office could ever hope for

Saturn: What are the things you consider you struggle with the most? It's very difficult to get myself to do something I don't want to do, especially when it comes to Normal Adult (TM) things. This can range from the incredibly mundane, like the hoops I will jump through to avoid making a phonecall or appointment, to the grand, like determinedly tapping out of the rat race. So I guess you could say that then creates a massive category of things I struggle with if I cannot successfully avoid them, haha. Also basic math.

Gemini: Do you have a good relationship with your siblings? If you're an only child, would you like to have siblings? How many? Biologically I'm an only child and to be honest was content to be so, then I acquired a stepbrother at a young age, but we didn't grow up together full-time -- so in a sense I had enough of a taster. Beyond the normal sibling annoyances when we *were* living under the same roof when we were younger, we've always gotten along well. As it happens, recently we've come to a deeper understanding due to some bizarre behavior from our parents; it's been nice to connect as adults.

Mars: Are you the type to approach others first or do you like others to do that instead? Depending on my mood and the setting this can honestly go either way! If the other person is the 'newcomer' I'm more inclined to be the one to help them get comfy, even if it's so they feel like they have someone they can be comfortably silent with; if I'm the newcomer I'm more likely to wait to be approached (mostly because I'm unfortunately okay with being quiet and alone, haha).

and another being that...... my GOD lemme tell yah, being 16, and starting college after being homeschooled for 5 years, the level of "nothingness" to "EVERYTHING DRAMA ALL THE TIME" was Insane.

and it only calmed down when i graduated uni, cus i went to uni the same place i did my second college, so some of the more Dramatic of the other students stuck around just as long as I did

and then since graduation has been a non-stop Slog with Begging the doctors to acknowledge I have fibro, and only JUST having got that a month ago

so like.... yeah being 16 was Infinitely more interesting for me than being 29? wasnt necessarily GOOD interesting, but it was interesting.

at 16 i was an insecure wreck masquarading as the most Confident bitch alive, buried in books, gettin weird... death threat phonecalls?, was gettin to know a BUNCH of people from a lot of different lives that i never would of met before, was so good at maths that my GCSE teacher BASICALLY had me teach the dydcalculic girl who i was friends with, went to see jeff waynes war of the worlds live, felt like i had Options for my future.

I asked how far back I need to go, and she said to do like, the last 3 months. Because without receipts of those expenses, I'd be "over the income limit"

I'm about to do that math now because that is insane hang on. If I dived my gross income I reported, without subtracting the expenses I reported, my income monthly for the past 12 months would be.......... $176. a month. not weekly, not bi-weekly, $176 per month of income before expenses, that I need to prove my expenses, for whatever the hell my net income would technically be it doesn't matter.

I once saw the best revenge one can have on a tenth grader. I was in remedial math with a boy, who we'll call Greg in this story. Greg and I were held back when the bell rang for lunch because we didn't do our homework for a number of weeks and earned a lunch detention with our very strict teacher, We'll call him Mr. J.

NOW, Mr. J's lunch detentions were unique, we got a carton of orange juice, a school salad, and a pack of saltine crackers. We had to finish our assigned work and were expected to later turn in the homework.

So Greg wasn't exactly the thinnest of kids, and Mr. J had taken a phonecall out the front of the portable classroom trailer his class was in.

Greg saw that Mr. J had a Smuckers crustless peanutbutter and grape Jelly sandwich that he had yet to eat before said call came in.

Greg was hungry, and salad was an insult to food, according to him, which I also believed at the time. So Greg, being hungry, stole the sandwich and left out the back door to eat it and skip the rest of the lunch detention.

Mr. J comes back and sees that Greg has disappeared. Somehow, he didn't misremember how many students, (2), he was in charge of, and noticed that only I remained. So he radios the school officer, a thing we had at my school at least, and sat to eat his sandwich.

But the sandwich was gone!

Taken by the missing student!!

This snapped the last of Mr. J's patience with Greg, so he radioed the officer to stop by his classroom before searching the cafeteria for Greg.

Mr. J pulls out a second sandwich of the same kind from his desk, and opens it and tosses the sandwich alone onto its plate and, when the officer came to the classroom, had the officer dust the prints on the sandwich wrapper, a plan formed.

I was asked if Greg had taken the sandwich, and because he and I had problems, I did indeed rat him out.

I followed along as a character witness as another teacher who heard the APB on Greg told us where he was. And so Mr. J and the officer confronted Greg.

They said they found the wrapper, and demanded to see his hand, to which on the spot the officer declared them to be Greg's own and gave him a chance to confess and let the school handle punishment, or take him to the station a couple streets away to await his trial for theft.

Greg buckled immediately, and Mr. J, while not excusing the homework, excused me from the assignment, as Greg was handled.

I don't know why I felt compelled to share this story from 12 years ago

Episode 9 Breakdown

Zhang A Shui refuses to answer his interrogation but taunts Nurse Bai about her father. The KMT suspect Dr Bai may be an old KMT agent and want to confirm it, at the same time the police team follow up on some names mentioned by Zhang A Shui to find some odd clues about Dr Bai's past.

Dr Bai receives a strange letter after treating the truck driver and Zhang A Shui continues to extort Security Captain Li for a chance to escape.

Ji Danyang recieves a letter threatening his teacher and asking for the coded notebook in exchange for his teacher's safety. He is out of sorts and causes the team to worry for him as he wont tell them about it and they decide to tail him when he goes off site. He follows the note's instructions to a meeting place whereby a kid delivers a note to wait for a phonecall at the post office. The anonymous caller tells him to go to a bookstore, where another note leads him to waiting at the canal bridge. The police team followed him through every step, wanting to catch the person he's waiting for and Officer Hongmei eventually confronts Ji Danyang after night begins to fall and no one has appeared.

The truck driver drops a box on his foot during a delivery and is in the hospital when the power to the whole building suddenly goes out. The police team immediately order everyone to stay where they are and hurry to search the hospital. Nurse Bai was in the room with Zhang A Shui when it went dark and is found hiding by Police Captain Chen when the lights return and Zhang A Shui is dead. The police suspect the note to Ji Danyang and following runaround was a diversion to lower their manpower at the hospital and suspect an inside job, and that the culprit must still be in the hospital as they investigate.

You only get to breathe for a moment then we're right back into it! The pace of this show keeps you hooked and I'm really enjoying it.

Secret messages all around! Silly math man didn't tell his friends what was going on, but he's no good at subterfuge so they found out anyway.

Zhang A Shui is a dick, but he knows he's got very little to protect himself now, but why is Nurse Bai even expected to help treat him given that he took her hostage?  I realise it's for plot reasons, but that's just bad management.

Suspects:

Security Captain Li who we know is an undercover spy being extorted by Zhang A Shui and desperately wants to keep his cover?

Lai Guangrun the truck driver who's been asking Dr Bai some nosy questions and just so happens to be in the hospital, albeit with a genuinely fractured foot?

The electrician that Officer Hongmei saw working on the switchboard a few episodes ago, who was in the hospital picking up medicine?

Secretary Lu who claimed to be in the hospital for a meeting when he stopped to talk to Nurse Bai, but was outside when the hospital was locked down for the investigation?

Nurse Bai who was in the room? The fact that she made active steps towards stabbing Zhang A Shui with a needle when she'd stopped Nurse Shanshan from doing the same thing a episode ago is interesting... is she really not as sweet and innocent as we've been lead to believe?

If you do have glasses, how would you feel if you didn’t need them anymore? It would be so refreshing to just wake up and be able to see. Or have other sunglasses I can actually wear lol.

How many vegetarians do you know? I can think of three of the top of my head.

Have you ever considered going to art school? I considered going to an art high school just because some of my friends were going, but I really didn’t have a desire to outside of that.
