So we moved at the start of the month, which means it's time to establish a new shrine.
It's bare bones right now, and that's okay. They would rather me work with what I have than perfection. No words spoken beyond the simple incense and flame prayer. None needed. Instead I feel Their love washing over me, a forceful hug from my divine Fathers.
I love Them, and They love me.

Plastic in Witchcraft
Witches tend to be environmentally-conscious. I mean we love the Earth, and being mindful of how our actions affect the environment is one of many ways to show respect for nature. Because of this, I generally prefer to use “natural” materials in my practice. Cotton cloth and thread, wood boards, glass bottles, etc. However, I recognize that plastic is just as much of this world as every other material I just listed, so it feels closed-minded to wholely discredit it and say “plastic can’t do magic.” The malleability, the affordability, the endless colors it can take on, that it lasts centuries, the fact that it’s a product of human innovation, that crude oil is the product of things that died millions of years ago, the intricate process of taking that goo and turning it into literally anything, there’s a lot to draw inspiration and correspondences from. Even if I don’t really want to admit it (while I know I can’t single-handedly save the world by avoiding plastic, that doesn’t mean I’ve internalized it quite yet). I’m curious how others use plastic, if at all, in their practice. Deity figurines, trinkets that go in spell jars or sachets, costume jewelry?

Epithets of Hyrule
The Golden Goddesses
Epithets are “an adjective or phrase expressing a quality or attribute regarded as characteristic of the person or thing mentioned.”
(Thank you Oxford Languages for the definition!)
Epithets are used in multiple religions, including christianity, hellenic paganism, norse paganism, kemetic paganism, and even in celtic paganism. People have used Epithets to denote the specific aspect of a deity they want to invoke.
However, I have not seen many people discus the epithets that could appear in pop culture paganism, and in this case specifically, Hyrulean Paganism.
So here are my current ideas for epithets of the Goddesses.
(Note, epithets that are most closely related to a specific race/species is denoted by a color or symbol. Goron, Gerudo, Rito, Zora, Hylian, Sheikah)
Din
Lady of the Red Earth, Earthbreaker, Earthmaker, Foundation of the World, Lady of Power, The Gerudo Mother, The Desert Mother, Din of the Forge, Kingmaker, King Mother, The Sandstorm, Of the Wastes, Of the Burning Hearth, Torch in the Night, Sister of Courage, Sister of Wisdom, Brother, Fire of Gorondia, She who is cradled in Death’s Maw, The Desert Wind, of the Fury, Autumn Harvester
Din, for me, is associated with Fire and Earth, Gerudo and Goron, and thus some epithets are more species specific.
Din of the Forge is also common with smiths of all species.
Nayru
Lady of Wisdom, Lady of Justice, Mother of Law, The Arbiter, of the Sea, of the Rain, She Who Watches, of the Deep, of the Storm, of the Fury, of the Cascading Falls, of the Hidden Waters, Queen Maker, of the Burning Cold, Knowledge Keeper, All-Knowing, the Teacher, the Shield, of the Gentle Snow, Owl-eyed, Sister of Power, Sister of Courage, Winter Keeper
Nayru is associated with water, ice, justice and knowledge. She is most closely associated with the Zora, and Hylians, but some other races have epithets for her as well.
Farore
Lady of Courage, Lady of Life and Death, Sword Keeper, Hero Guide, Mother of Life, Mother of Monsters, Secret Keeper, Lightning Rider, of the Storm, of the Fury, the Whispering Wind, of the Roaring Wind, the Verdant, Dragon Chaser, the the Joyous One, the Dancing Wind, Spring Bringer, the Huntress, Protector of Children, Will O’ Wisp, of the Cutting Wind, of Lost Things, of the Lost*, Path Walker, of the Wind, Sister of Power, Sister of Wisdom
*while this is the only epithet the Goron use, it is not Goron Specific.
Farore is my matron. I tried to keep things equal, but I will naturally favor her. I do actually ise quite a few of these epithets when I write prayers or blessings, and occasionally I will feel the urge to write a blessing invoking one.
Hylia
Guardian of the Triforce, Light bearer, of True Aim, the Winged One, Queen-mother, Queen-makerMother of Hylians, Bane of Demise, the Great Vanquisher, She who Carries Summer, of the Burning Light, the Arbiter, She Who Watches Over Time, Hero Maker, the Song Writer, the Hearth Light, Torch Against the Night, Scourge of the Undead, She Who Favors Wisdom, the Sacred Dragon, the Gentle Healer, She Who Seals the Darkness
Hylia is the last one I created epithets for at this time. She is dear to Hylians, and thus has many Hylian epithets.
I will eventually write all of this in zonai, ancient hylian, and common hylian (or I will at least try) and thus ends this post!
Merry met, and blessedly go!

Decorated a boline I have had since forever (20 years???) to make it more a moon-style knife. She now lives on my Moonmother altar <3
Also used alcohol ink to stain a plain wood foldable herb knife that I had. That one is too personal to show, but I've been working on adapting old tools into new tools and having a wonderful time!

The three festivals which I've placed in the Thasian month of Thargelion (which is out of sync with the Athenian calendar for now, things will line up again next month.)
The Great Herakleia and the Choreia are both atttested in the festival list provided by inscription SEG xix 415 as festivals for which legal business was not permitted at the end of the 4th century on the island. Herakles was the city's patron deity alongside Dionysus, so it is not surprising for their respective festivals to be considered as important.
I celebrate the Herakleia on the 4-5th. Historically, Herakles received the sacrifice of an ox was worshipped under the epithet of Kallinikos (fair victor). I have kept the epithet and offer beef-based foods.
The Thargelia is an personal addition based on the fact that the month of Thargelion is attested for Thasos. There is solid ground to assume that the Thargelia was celebrated on the island, mainly from the fact that this is one of the most widespread festivals in the Greek world, including in Thasos' mother city, Paros. It is not an exact copy of the Athenian version, but I have kept the main elements. I celebrate it on the 6th-7th for Artemis and Apollo, with an emphasis on the Delian (Delia, Delos) epithets, due to Thasos' heritage of cycladic influence. I have kept the staple offering of panspermia, which I make using figs, seasonal fruits, milk and oat flakes.
And the final festival for the month is the Choreia for Dionysus, which is not well known and attested nowhere outside of Thasos, except for Dionysus' epithet Choreios which Plutarch claims is from the island of Paros, Thasos' mother city. The festival is assumed to have involved dancing, singing or theatrical contests, but we do not have enough information about it to know. I celebrate it on the 12th-15th of the month and typically offer beef and fennel, as well as wine. This year I served it in a samoon bread because I felt like it (it pairs wonderfully).
Keep in mind that my personal practice is both very speculative and locally-focused. I share details of my practice only for the sake of sharing the methodology behind what I do and doesn't mean that my way of doing things is the only possible way.

President Buer
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
President Buer, the great infernal herbalist and philosopher !! Erato on ca Buyer anon !!
To honor Buer, I keep a journal where I press flowers, leaves, weeds, any plant that comes across my path. I write down how to identify it, it's herbalistic qualities, and some folklore or ways it can be used in my practice. Through this I've gained a newfound appreciation of the fauna around me, they're like a bunch of little friends I get to see wherever I go. There are so many little plants I would have never noticed before this project, goldenweed, rabbitfoot clover, wood sorrell, lamb's ear, deadnettle. When the world has too many big awful things going on that make it feel like there's nothing good left, it's nice to be able to ground myself to the "smaller" things. Talk to the trees even if they don't respond, learn the names of the growth between the cracks in the sidewalk, appreciate the smaller things :)

It's Friday! It's the 1st of December too!
D you know what this means to my practice?
Time to munch on something, clean up my space a bit and light two candles, one is for my Gods, spirits and allies and the other is for my ancestors, to whom I've started to give an offering too.
Want to know what it is? Drum rolls please:
water. It's water, plain, simple, life sustaining water put on the altar dedicated to all my ancestors that already has specific objects to one of them, since this person is one of my very close relative that I love a lot.
I still can't have the space that I'd like to give proper alchol and food offerings, but I can welcome my loved ones weekly, celebrating them even if it's with this little ritual of mine.
I am still building my routine and finding a balance in my practice and slowly finding my pace and place, but I love my Friday lovely devotion time!
P.S: it might be also done to include all the Gods who are making themselves known recently and that I've never worked with before, to know themselves and make them know me better, but hey! Gotta do what we can with the place we are in, right!?

I have dedicated garments i wear when channeling certain deities. It helps them anchor to me and helps me release into them.
Its pretty neat and ive noticed theyre more comfortuble the more clothing, room, and general soace i dedicate to them ie chairs, table spots or shelf tops, clothes, hair pins, general accessories
Its relaly cool, for instance i notice my bond with Thanatos becomes a lot stronger when i wear a hood, he tends to like the privacy and how it sheilds the face.
He also really likes a lot of expresso, I've noticed, lol

At some point I’m going to post about my personal practice bc it’s really solidified within the past year. It started as grounding rituals to maintain my day-to-day sanity, and now it is both more profound and more connected to community.
A short version:
- The Orphic Hymns Grimoire by Sara L. Mastros is pretty damn cool! I appreciate her approach to modernizing language so modern practitioners can use it and make it their own. The poems are fun to read aloud! The whole thing is a devotional to Hermes! And it’s got simplified suggested spells from the PGM. Love that. I have picked up lots of books but this one grabbed me with its writing style, which is important to me as a words person.
- I am a little bit involved with the Temple of Dionysus in RI. They seem like like-minded nerds.
- I read a book* that laid out the difference between Indigenous & colonialist relationships to the natural world and finally started to comprehend the scope of what we’ve lost by thinking of humans as separate from nature (and how that leads to, yknow, huge scale environmental destruction). I believe more completely and profoundly that magical practice is about knowing and understanding local ecology and tending garden and building relationships. It is not about shopping. I want to keep a closer eye on making all of my personal doings produce less waste.
- I’m very attached to the idea that paganism isn’t about ‘belief’ but about doing and sharing. It is not central to my practice that I feel that gods hear me, or that I hear them. My idea of what a god is is probably a bit more lax than other practitioners. But last week something in life knocked me for a loop, and felt like an answer. I did some divination (tarot) with a deck I had set aside for spiritual use, and in asking questions I believe that in this instance I got answers from someone other than me (and that I know who it is). This is new, and rare. I genuinely hope it stays rare, because it’s A Lot.
*The book is Braiding Sweetgrass. You’ve probably heard of it.
