can you do a stationary/drafting tool tour some time? I love your posts! :)
Tumblr media
stationary, i can do !
drafting is a little more questionable because, well.. we don’t do a TON of drafting in violin making? the most i’ve done so far is use squares/protractors/compasses to make templates, but once i finish this instrument i can probably do an update of all the templates and drafting tools used to make them!
anyways, here’s my current stationary lineup:
i have a moleskine notebook (black leather), a midori md notebook (cream), and a rhodia notepad (black staplebound pad). they’re all a5 and 5x5 dot grids, which means there are 5 grid squares per inch or 2 grid squares per cm
the moleskine, i use as a formal lab book/diary for violin making. i hate the paper, but i like that the outside is durable and it can take a little throwing around the bench
the midori md is my personal notebook. i don’t like using it around my bench just because of how quickly it starts to look worn on the outside even with the plastic cover, but the paper is great and it’s lovely for journaling/drawing/keeping an agenda
the rhodia dot pad, i use for taking rough notes. the paper quality is great, so i don’t have to be as careful about smearing when i’m jotting stuff down quickly in pen, and it’s perforated at the top. i dont love how bright white the paper is—the moleskine and midori are both a creamy off-white color—but everything else about it serves my purposes to a tee
i have an a5 6 ring binder that i fill with that same 5x5 size dot grid loose leaf sheets, which is where i like to keep my notes on tool making/maintenance, since i’ll probably update them over time as i learn what works for me. the binder is from a 3 pack on amazon, same with the loose leaf paper, but i think muji has the same stuff.
the lovely white, almost lavender post it notes are my all time favorite color for stickies !!!! i bought an 8 pack in high school and have not been able to find them since. it’s pretty tragic. the brown ones are from muji though, and i like the size even if they aren’t super sticky.
the eraser i use is a milan 430 (??) it’s green and i like green and it erases, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
the ruler is a starrett c635 tempered steel w the cm/mm on one side and cm/0.5mm on the other. i didn’t pick this one out, but my teacher did and i’ve gotta agree w him, the weight and size of it really helps get accurate lines and distances.
the writing utensils from left to right are:
dixon ticonderoga pencil hb no. 2
staedler pencil 4b
uni kura toga mechanical pencil 0.5mm (the lead rotates as you write, so you get a really nice, consistent nib that breaks less !!)
muji white pen body with black 0.38mm ink refill
muji pen dark blue 0.38mm
sakura pigma brush tip archival ink pen
staedler triplus fineliner from the neon set (yes, i have tried the stabilo fineliners, no i do not like them. the tips are like.. cylindrical? so if you write at an angle, like most people, you’ll get inconsistent lines as you change direction. they’re cute to look at but not great to write with)
mildliner light grey highlighter
that about covers it? i do have a pilot .38mm pen [edit: pentel energel 0.3mm needle tip] that doesn’t smear as much as the muji pens, [but i don't like how the shape of the pen affects my handwriting] which i’ll add an edit for when i get home since i don’t carry them w me.. but yeah ! thanks for asking me, i love talking about stationary lolol

5am.raining
The past few days have been so strange... In addition to hurting my hand on Wednesday, my husband and I got our second dose of the vaccine on Friday evening, and we've spent most of the day Saturday in bed with aches and chills. 😣😣😣
I won't know until 2 weeks from now if my hand will require a surgery to repair the nerve or tendon. If it does though, it's going to be in a splint for a while... 😭 Which is going to make doing much of anything pretty difficult. I really hope it is not needed...
Anyway. Here's an older photo from some goodies I bought at @tokyopenshop and my thoughts on them! ✌☺🛍
💮Midori Paintable Stamp (Animal)
Absolutely lovvve this stamp! So cute. The images are so tiny and they come out really nice. Goes well with my planner since they fit into the small spaces of the weekly and monthly spreads.
💮Pilot ILMILY Frixion Planner Stamps (Frame)
I just wanted to get this since it's limited edition, and I thought it could be cute for highlighting dates and stuff.
💮Petit Deco Rush (Light Bulb)
I'm obsessed with the functional deco rush tapes! I thought this one could be cute for marking notes and ideas I want to bring attention to.
💮Acroball L Series (Pearl Gold)
Honestly I didn't need this pen I just thought it was a pretty color scheme. 😆
💮Midori Wakka Seals (Flower)
Cute plastic stickers for highlighting important dates and stuff.
💮Pentel TUFF Mechanical Pencil (.5 mm, Beige)
Beautiful vintage style pencil. I put my blue layout lead in here.
💮RoundTop Schedule Washi
I can't help but love the tiny schedule washi tapes/stickers from RoundTop! I already have another design of theirs, but I had to get this one too. Would be super useful for bulletjournaling.

What kind of things do you use for your traditional art? Like supplies n stuff gjfk
hey bud! I hope u are ready for a big ol’ tangent dssfvjdf
TOOLS
Tumblr media
So like for sketches (which y’all rarely see) I just use a graphgear 500 .3 mm lead! I also have 2 different eraser sticks? eraser pencils? what are they even called sbfhsd
EDIT:  The blue eraser is the Staedtler Stick Eraser and the green one is the Tombow MONO Knock 3.8
Tumblr media
my brush pens.... my inkers... these two pens are my babies that i love and will die for. the grey one (which is what i used for the pinecone pic) is the Pentel Aquash light black (its grey. its grey pentel you can just say grey). It’s just so fckin PRETTY and gives such good textures!! the black pen is the “Pentel Pigment Ink Brush Pen - Extra Fine“ if you ever just wanna look for it on amazon lol. I got my first one of these like. in 2014? 2015? and i love them so much for the good variation in line thickness. Super thick to super thin without even having 2 change pens! Plus, if you have a shaky hand, this pen is pretty forgiving - you cant really see mistakes as easy.
Tumblr media
these! are what i use for lil’ deets in white or when i wanna fill a space! The gel pens (gellyroll) are pretty good for like, adding chatter or patterns, but the posca pens are better for when i need a more opaque option. I’ll give a little more detail on that in a bit!
Tumblr media
And these!!! you guys also dont see too much color in my traditional artwork, but these are my pens - Faber-castell pitt artist brush pen..... as u can tell i just really love brush pens. They don’t have the same sort of brush tip as the ink pens, but they are defs still brush-like in nature and i love them
Tumblr media
honorable pen mention: the pebeo masking fluid marker. i’ve been doing my art in a very Weird way as of late which like. doesn’t work well w the drawing gum but!!! i really love using it when i actually use the correct kinds of paper that can, u kno, stand up to being rubbed!! which like, is how u remove this stuff
TECHNIQUE??
recently ive just been doing art funky, like, just ink straight onto cheap tracing paper. like, yea, the paper curls really bad which sucks but also you get such a nice texture from it!!!
The other fun thing abt tracing paper is layering! What I do is I will line the image on one side of the tracing paper, and then color the reverse image on the back. Once all the ink has dried, I take my pc-5m white posca pen and just cover up the back!! that way i can have areas where the color still pops, while other areas are transparent. What also works really nicely is like. it helps w tonal stuff too? like in the pinecone pic I went ahead and used my light black (its just grey oh my god) pen on both sides of the paper, and that’s why marina’s tentacles are darker than her skin despite using one pen.
When I am being a “””””Good, Proper Artist””””” (no such thing, moving on), I like to use strathmore sketchbooks (usually the recycled paper bc its a little more off-white), and I just recently found the strathmore mixed media visual journal which is nice for like, ink and stuff.
There’s some other stuff I don’t use too often - actually bottles of ink w actual brushes, watercolors, etc - but these are my mains.
tl;dr i main a brush in both splatoon and irl

What’s in my Pencil Case?
This is day 3 of the 20-day back-to-school challenge created by the wonderful @joystudie! Technically this is day 6? but I had so much homework the past few days there was no way to do this.
This is probably going to be a long post because I am kind of a pen addict. BUT REMEMBER! You don’t need a million pens and fancy stationery to be a studyblr! I have this stuff because I like it. It is not necessary to be productive or to have a studyblr.
Without further ado, here’s what’s in my pencil case. Sorry, no pictures (today) because it’s too early for there to be any kind of good lighting.
1. My pencil case
I have this Lihit Lab Pencil case. I like it because it’s sturdy, and can hold a lot of pens. I’ve almost outgrown it, and I’m pretty sure I’ll just buy a larger version of this case.
2. Black Pens
I have a total of 10 black pens/markers in my pencil case.
A Pentel Fude touch pen
A Papermate Inkjoy in the size 0.7 mm
A Pentel Energel in the size 0.7 mm
A Zebra Sarasa clip pen in the size 0.5 mm
A Pentel Energel in the size 0.3 mm
A Crayola fine point black marker
And 4 Prismacolor Premier fine line marker in the sizes 01, 03, 05, and 08 (Not sure if these are millimeters or just arbitrary numbers tbh) These came in a set that I got as a present, and the box is gone so I can’t find a link :/
If you can’t tell, I love Pentel, especially the Fude touch.
3. Colored Pens/Fine markers
A mint Crayola fine point marker
4 Crayola super tips in my color code, and one knockoff Cra-z-art version.
1 Mint Stabilo point 88
6 Gel pens: 3 uniball Signo, 2 cheap ones from this huge amazon set, and one cheap one from the dollar section of Target
4. Highlighters and Brush Pens
7 Zebra Mildliners (1 for my bullet journal, 3 for just in case, and 3 for my color code)
2 Tombow dual brush pens (451 for my color code, and 249 for my bullet journal)
5. Extras
1 mini ruler (I have no idea where this came from so I couldn’t link it if I tried)
1 container of 0.7 lead
1 Papermate Clearpoint pencil
