The Pic-O-De Crop Competition was quite interesting. It may have even been a PELAU cause some of evating get pelt in the mix! We didn’t seem to have the mega fanfare with the restriction of props and dancers on stage but those with a creative team worked around the limitations. I Felt that most of the presentations were simple and effective. John Yarde’s Rendition of “I will remember you” was flawless and as a first timer he should be proud. Colin Spencer went full Mafia mode pon de people stage. Amara sounded like a female version of Spencer - good phrasing & rendition but boring performance. I really liked the twist to Doyenne’s “Love Affair” it was well penned and her vocal rendition was very good. Quon lick up de place with “Aminal Kingdom.” He has a bright future in calypso. Sammy was in fine form- she has improved tremendously and is coming into her own. Ranaan reminds me of his dad Cockroach he handled himself well and with time will be a force to be reckoned with. TC’s “Kaiso Reporter” was lyrically was one of the strongest of the night. Donella SANGGGG & was pure class as usual. De Annoncer had a D for everybody! Crystal’s ‘Crazy” probably went over a few heads but I loved it. Classic fought to retain his crown but I don’t think anyone will be able to defeat IWeb. The sound system in my humble opinion was HORRIBLE. Many of the Calypsonians seemed to be struggling to hear, the microphone was often muzzled and it was like the sound man fell asleep after every performance cause at the beginning of most of the artist’s performances the mic levels were almost inaudible then wham the levels turned up but guest what the mic still sounded muffled! Not sure who will win but Water Street Boys will take home the largest share of the winnings having written for many of the finalists. Note to song writers - topics must be developed, there were too many cliche approaches to topics which left songs lyrically weak. Some of the musical arrangements also needed refining. All in all I enjoyed the finals since I got to hang with my friends, talk nuff & laugh muh belly full. #thechasefiles #picodecropfinals #pelau #evatingpeltin #soundcompanyshouldapologise https://www.instagram.com/p/CgoFIjrAfbTIPdL4uJh7n_d36Z8wA7tDplX2pA0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

lured out of my room with promise of pelau only to have a (delicious) sandwich for dinner

You know what killing me about Carmy making Bolognese or Ragu or w/e pasta dish he made for her? He's Italian American, and he comes from a family that basically lives in the kitchen preparing Italian cuisine....So he probably could have made that dish for Claire [last name not on file] blindfolded, it would be equivalent to a Trinbagonian chef bringing a girl home and making them a quick pelau, or a Jamaican man making peas and rice or canned mackerel and rice, and her being all starry-eyed at the barest of minimums. Homeboy didn't even bust out any French cuisine, no dessert nothing!
STAND UP CLAIRE! STAND UP!
The more I think about it the shittier Carmy looks and the more gullible Claire seems, it's just funny and sad. 😔
Not y’all got me defending Claire!
Is the Bolognese/Ragu equivalent to our curry or to a pelau? That aside I don’t think it was that odd of a choice *runs and hide*, after coming home from a long day of work related stress that ended on a high with them passing the fire suppression test. It makes sense that he’d make them comfort food; it’s reminds me of The Menu when Anya Taylor Joy’s character ‘Margot’ requests the cheeseburger with fries, it’s not a glamorous dish in any sense but he’s doing the thing that he appreciate most about food, which is taking care of the people he loves. It’s simple, hearty, represents his family and represents home. It’s all so much better than anything he and his girl dinner’s have going on.
My biggest take away from that scene is that he should been cooking for SYDNEY, who we see cleaning up their restaurant way after everyone leaves, then to go home alone to no warm home cooked meal. I was also pissed off that his efforts went unacknowledged, home girl went straight for the lips *I get it* but just another reason they aren’t really meant for each other.
Everything else though: @Claire STAND UP STAND UP!

Do you have a favorite simple, go to meal?
I was fearful I'd have a weird question in my inbox when I saw the notification pop up.
I'm not quite sure, I tend to make Pelau or have a lot of it. Since it's a one-pot dish. It's rice, peas, meat, and molasses, a dish from Trinidad.
