Jesus of Nazareth underwent Jewish and Roman trials, was flogged, and was sentenced to death by crucifixion. The scourging produced deep stripe like lacerations and appreciable blood loss, and it probably set the stage for hypovolemic shock, as evidenced by the fact that Jesus was too weakened to carry the crossbar (patibulum) to Golgotha. At the site of crucifixion, his wrists were nailed to the patibulum and, after the patibulum was lifted onto the upright post (stipes), his feet were nailed to the stipes. The major pathophysiologic effect of crucifixion was an interference with normal respirations. Accordingly death resulted primarily from hypovolemic shock and exhaustion asphyxia. Jesus’ death was ensured by the thrust of a soldier’s spear into his side. Modern medical interpretation of the historical evidence indicate that Jesus was dead when taken down from the cross.

i ruined the Same Microbio Exam Score Every Time Somehow? bit i had going on by one point 😭 but on the bright side my professor left a nice note saying "it's always a fun time when a student earning a 96% is their *low* exam grade. I'd say good luck in your future classes, but I doubt you'll need it" so i'm going to be riding that high for the rest of my life basically

Went to a public library in the area to go study at, and it ended up being a pretty loud spot. I think I’ll keep trying to find my perfect study spot but until then my room will have to do (oh no how horrible,,,my snacks are here,,,). Also contemplating getting a betta fish but I should probably practice restraint.

must have books | dear nursing student
After being accepted into nursing school, I had no idea what to do next. I started looking up all kinds of stuff trying to figure out what to expect; YouTube, ALLNURSES, Instagram etc. I took bits and pieces of advice from all of them. I'm going to start by sharing the books I have found useful. This is mostly dedicated to those that procrastinate or can't stay focused long enough, like me. These are easy reads that are broken down into small sections which makes them engaging.
Pre-Nursing School ○ Saunders NCLEX-RN
This book should be purchased before you even get a stethoscope. Things to study before starting first semester  — ○ Fluids and Electrolytes ○ Acid-Base Balance ○ Vital Signs ○ EVERYTHING ABOUT DIABETES MELLITUS Practicing the clinical application questions will be good review to get yourself use to the types of questions you'll see on your first quiz and test.
Tumblr media
Pre- or During Nursing School ○ Pearsons Pathophysiology Reviews and Rationales ○ Elsevier Nursing Diagnosis Handbook | An Evidence-Based Guide to Planning Care
— these two books saved me during first semester —  ○ Learn how to use the NDH, it's a lifesaver | Elsevier ○ Get familiar with pathophysiology, nursing assessments, client-centered nursing care, nursing interventions | Pearsons R&R
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving onto Pharmacology ○ Pearsons Pharmacology Reviews and Rationales ○ Pearsons Nurse's Drug Guide
I plan to continue to use Pearson Reviews and Rationales books through the rest of my nursing program. These books are far from the dense nursing school textbooks but contain the same information. Alongside the Saunders NCLEX-RN, you should be set for your nursing school journey.

Finally met my standard (being one of the best in the generation) on a test (after two minor flops this semester), and to celebrate I got a bit too drunk. With this disinhibition, hopefully I edit the staticmoth fic soon. Its rushed second half has been on my mind ever since I published it! It requires heavy editing and I will deliver, sooner or later. Until then, MWAH!

DID YOU KNOW THAT? Smoking is one of the most provocative environmental factors for the development of rheumatoid arthritis.
Why? Smoking --> lung inflammation --> activation of enzymes like peptidylarginine deaminase --> changes arginine into cyclic citrullinated peptides --> immune system makes anti-CCP antibodies --> complement is fixed in the tissues --> destruction
The relationship is dose-dependent and risk goes down after quitting.

Midterm pathophys test today. Sigh. I made stupid mistakes and I’m just - frustrated with myself. I gotta be better. Going back to school is hard 😭

The last 4 days have been such a rollercoaster. I had a really fun Saturday then studied for 8 hrs straight on Sunday (I do not recommend studying for that long in one go). Then I had 3 midterms between Monday and Tuesday. Nursing school is really difficult sometimes, but I’m choosing to be grateful and active in positive self talk and self care. Good luck with your studying everyone!! 💜
