Luz and King’s matching expressions of mild disgust, and Eda’s complete lack of concern, are all incredibly funny to me. This episode is wonderful already.

As always, Hooty is an enigma. I love that he waits until after he’s vomited up every single piece of mail to tell them that it’s mail. I think they can tell!

SPOILERS!!! REFERENCES AND EASTER EGGS IN F&C ep. 7: THE STAR

Let's see what this episode has in store.

This is an alternate universe where Simon was killed by vampires before he found Marceline. Even the scientific parasite in his breast pocket looks like it has been drained of blood.

Our Simon demonstrating his survival skills. We never got to see him dealing with vampires in his own universe, but presumably he ran into them a few times and is familiar with their weaknesses.

These kinds of vampire minions last appeared in the Stakes miniseries. They are a lot more varied in design now. Also, the architecture of this world is interesting. It looks like gothic palaces have been built into the roots of decaying skyscrapers.

Bonnie's crew has several of the familiar vampire hunting tools from Stakes, including stake launchers and garlic bombs. They also douse some of the vampires in holy water, which was previously shown to harm demons in the episode Dad's Dungeon. This is the first time it's been seen working on vampires.

Marshall Lee has a Hambo mirror decoration. In the prime universe Hambo was Marceline's toy teddy bear, given to her by Simon.

Martin is an interesting choice for Bonnie's crew. In this universe it seems like he never had a son, since the humans presumably never left Ooo for the Islands. It also seems like he's a better person here, willing to risk his life to follow Fionna's noble lead. He has the same jacket as he had in The Visitor, which several people identified when we first saw Fionna wearing it in the trailer.

The cat on Bonnie's mug is Timmy from the episode The Pajama War. The fact she broke it is surely the most heartbreaking loss of this episode :(

The other member of the team is Huntress Wizard, who looks to be a human in this universe for some reason. I don't think Huntress Wizard was originally human in the prime universe.

Baby Finn snuck into this universe, and by the end of the episode was left to be raised by self-repairing battletank single gay dad PepButt. I'm sure he'll turn out fine.

The Cosmic Owl has been flagged up on Scarab's arrest list for "profiteering". Perhaps his neglect of his duties during Hoots has been discovered, or perhaps this is a new crime.

There are loads of new genderswapped characters in this scene. I've already reblogged a post listing all the ones we've spotted so far, so refer to that for details. The most significant is Ms. Abadeer. According to the credits, her first name is Hana.

Even Billy has been slain by vampires.

Princess Bubblegum calls Fionna a dillweed, her go-to insult from the episode Hot Diggity Doom. It's good to hear some Adventure Time swearing from time to time despite the liberties they're taking with the TV-14 rating.

Enter the titular character! Like the other members of the Vampire Court from Stakes, Marceline has taken a new name from the ranks of the Major Arcana of a tarot deck: The Star. Huntress mentions that she is the last member of the court, having outlived everyone beside the Vampire King himself. The fact she can fly suggests she killed and sucked The Fool's soul despite him being a fellow member of the court.

She is seen using her soul-sucking demon powers, inherited from Hunson, on Martin. She also demonstrates that she has no problem drinking blood in this universe, despite the fact vampires can eat the colour red.

Bonnie and The Star have such an interesting dynamic in this episode. It seems like fate is seeking to entwine them, but this has been twisted into a relationship of mutual hatred. Yet The Star is furious when a minion suggests she kill Bonnie, and Bonnie fails to take an opportunity to kill The Star later on. Something is keeping these two immortals in an eternal dance, even in a universe where they are arch nemeses.

A lot of this series has centred around Simon's relationship to fatherhood, and realising that he is a better dad than some of the others he's met will likely end up being a key moment in his recovery.

I believe this section was boarded by Hannah K. You've probably all seen her famous Bubbline stakeplay drawing. This scene must have been fun to draw.

I really enjoyed the parallel of Gary and Marshall getting their climactic kiss while Bonnie and The Star fell together to their deaths, demonstrating that the girls' fall was just as gay as the boys kissing, but in a very different way. We also know from interviews that Gary and Marshall's relationship is supposed to parallel that of early Bubbline in the prime universe. Perhaps Princess Bubblegum got Marceline out of a bad deal with Hunson Abadeer, shortly after their first meeting at Marceline's concert, and that's when they first hit it off.

The dream in this episode's credits features Marceline's house; a home that neither The Star nor this Marshall Lee have ever known.

I chose Deidra, a sim I had created almost 2 years ago. I had created a save just for her, and gave her extended family members. She eventually fell in love with & married a townie, and when the Growing Together ep came out, she became my 1st sim to have an infant. They eventually had 4 kids!

1. What uncommon/common fear do they have?

Being alone. It led to arguments with her sister, Kendra, who felt Deidra rushed into a relationship with Stan because she wanted to get married & have a baby before it was too late.

2. Do they have any pet peeves?

Laziness. Deidra gets frustrated easily, & hates when others don't help.

3. What are 3 items you can find in their bedroom?

Baby toys (their youngest sleeps in their room), perfume & lotions, hair wraps.

4. What do they notice first in a person?

Probably how they react to her. She can be self-conscious, and seems to be on high alert & observes how people perceive her.

5. On a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance?

Maybe a 2. It's low. She's never had a major physical injury, and prefers to not deal with any emotional or mental ones.

6. Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure?

Absolutely flight mode. After constantly bickering with her sister, because Kendra didn't accept her now-husband, Deidra stopped speaking to her.

7. Do they come from a big family/are they a family person?

Deidra comes from an average sized family. She has 1 younger sister (Kendra), and 1 younger brother (Shawn), and even has the family oriented trait.

8. What animal represents them best?

Maybe a lioness. Takes care of all of the babies, hunts/cooks, and is the one REALLY in charge.

9. What is a smell that they dislike?

Trash/dirty dish water. It means someone didn't complete their chores.

10. Have they broken any bones?

No.

11. How would a stranger likely describe them?

Quiet, but nice. Seems well organized and put together.

12. Are they a night owl or a morning bird?

Night owl. Her mornings are chaos.

13. What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love?

Deidra loves vanilla & cinnamon, and just the smell of pickles makes her gag.

14. Do they have any hobbies?

Reading and art/painting/sketching.

Pleasantly surprised, but anxious.

Not really. Maybe for special occasions.

Very neat!

Probably cotton. Simple.

English, United States. Just realized most of my sims don't have regional American accents, and maybe it's because most people tell me that they can't detect a regional accent in me.

does acht still DJ on the surface? i like to think acht has usurped a room of fours apartment and moved all of their DJ stuff into there. four maybe plays a traditional instrument like guitar and provides samples which acht proceeds to turn into the most fucked up music ever </3

Yes!!! Four plays bass guitar (this applies to literally every Agent 4 oc I have ever made) and Acht will often sample what they play and incorporate it in their music in the most ungodly way possible. Four absolutely loves it.

Despite being forced to make music in the Deepsea Metro, Acht still loves it no matter what. Continuing to make the music they love is kind of like their final “f-you” to Tartar. They enjoy making music so much more now that they’ve escaped the metro because they can actually feel joy from what they’ve created. Four encourages it as much as possible and will always support their partner’s hobbies.

Before meeting Acht, Four was actually a fan of their music. It’s a dream come true for them to be able to help them make the music they would listen to so often.

I absolutely love the idea of Acht taking over a room in Four’s apartment solely for their DJing equipment!!! I’m going to run with that idea for a little bit or you don’t mind:

Four has to be careful where they step because of the wires everywhere. They’ve tripped over a few more than once.

Trying to relocate all of Acht’s equipment took an entire day because of how far underground the Deepsea Metro is, plus a solid hour of trying to get it into the elevator of Four’s apartment building. Then an additional hour of giving up and trying to drag it up the stairs.

Acht didn’t start out with the entire room for just their equipment, they initially had just one corner. As they bought more to make more advanced music, they gradually spread their equipment through the whole room.

Acht has a habit of staying up late making new music. They’ve unintentionally made 20 minute long songs before because they get so into it. Four will often stay up with them binging a TV show or playing video games. If they weren’t awake, Acht would end up waking them just to ask them to play a riff on the bass guitar. They don’t mind at all and are more of a night owl anyway.

Even though Four listens to Acht making their music, they still get excited when a new song, EP, or album releases. Acht made a remix of #14 crush just for them, but kept it a secret, only mixing it when they weren’t home, so that it would be a surprise. They even managed to sample some of Four’s bass playing for the remix without them figuring it out. It came out on Valentine’s Day. It pays to have an oblivious partner. (I’m thinking of this video in particular.)

Ok just watched the last ep of owl house so like warning for spoilers~~~~

Thoughts I had prior to, during, post

1- wow if Belos, a witch-hunter who literally wants to kill all witches, doesn’t misgender Raine than the bar for transphobic assholes should really not be hard to reach (I.e., if Belos can do it, so can you)

2- it took me longer than it should have to realize that the tear marks on Raine’s face were their scars from the possession and then I was just like omg my baby

3- Huntlow at the end. I… their looks, waffle/waffles the palisman, hunter carving palismen, flapjacks grave, willow adding flowers

4- CANON DADDRIUS also was that a hint of Alador x Darius i saw at the end Dana. BESTIE U REALLY SAID U HEADCANON I CANON.

5- THE EARRINGS. Stop it

6- Lilith being harpy Lilith and omg her look and just the confidance and her and Steve’s friendship and Hooty

7- HOOTY U BEAU

8- raine and eda sitting in mini nest in the owl house or actually I’m not sure but I’m guessing that is where they were at the end and I just. My babies

When DID the owl house hyperfixation flip? Like was there a specific Moment (TM)? It surprises me that you weren't ride-or-die yet after Hunting Palismen..

oh don't get me wrong, i LOVED hunting palismen (and all the episodes preceding). but mainly i was just like "oh this is so sweet and i'm entertained, i love how the darker bits to this show sorta parallel ATLA and i would've been GONE for lumity as a kid." like i was very adamant that this was a show for the 'i should've killed you when i had the chance' kids, one of whom i 100% was.

but i was also like. these are kiddos and i am an adult woman who has rapidly outgrown the YA fiction niche that used to be my fandom bread n butter. i'm transitioning into adult horror media in my life, i'm not sure this will have any place there.

then fuckin' raine whispers shows up & raine and eda go from messy estranged 47-year-old (or however old) exes with clear bitter history to committing murder-suicide together in the span of a Single Ep, and i was like.

h. hewwo?

for the love of god hewwo.

the hyperfixation switch still hadn't flipped then, which was when i wrote those tags. but unfortunately then we got to follies at the coven day parade & the brainwashing arc & raine and eda having their "i'm not leaving until i get through to you" fight, reminiscent of So Many homestuck ancestor RPs i've had over the years, and i was like

HEWWO.

FOR THE LOVE OF FUCKING GOD. HEWWO

so. that was it. this may surprise you given that i've written no raine fic to date, you'd think i would have considering how mentally ill they made (and make) me personally. Hewwo. unfortunately it was only a few episodes later that hollow mind happened, upon which i was like, "OHHHH. so the kiddos are starring in the Exact Fucking Same horror story that 14-year-old kitkat went through. inch arresting. i'm sure i will be very normal about this and about these two specifically."

I am very thankful that due to your blog sabbatical, I was able to watch all of heartcatch myself first about two weeks ago (had already heard good things about it and wanted to check it out), so I can have all the context for you liveblogs, and also know when you make a joke or prediction and are exactly right!

Since you will be watching more then this episode, is the plan to be putting up a poll with different shows every week, or you are gonna stick with heartcatch until you finish ep 14? I'm fine either way, just curious on what to expect

What I think the Owl House Season 3 Would have Been

I’m trying to use what we got to reconstruct what could have been, as best I can. I have a few notes before we get into this in earnest.

First is that Thanks to Them is probably the most accurate to the Season 3 that could have been, while the other two were later in production so rewriting is easier. So 3x01 is a lot more re-editing, while 3x02 and 3x03 are more rewriting.

I also think that due to how 3x01 plays, it’s the majority of the season’s runtime.

Escape from the Human World (Eps 1-10)

So the timeskip between the immediate aftermath of King’s Tide to the actual plot of Thanks to Them is roughly the entire in-plot time of the first two Seasons combined. It has been 2-3 months since Luz and the others arrived. Which to me feels like this is where the majority of the episodes would go.

I also feel like the separate plot threads in Thanks to Them were re-organized to fit into one episode. Camilla and Luz’s scenes feel earlier than the Hunter/Luz Beloshunt. And then the Hexolio treasure hunt feels later on still.

Worrying about what to feed the Demon Realm kids would be easy scenes in Ep 1-2 of a season, with hints of Belos around foreshadowing the end of the ep block. Luz in class is a good mid-point moment, establishing where the plot is ending (Haunted Halloween) and how their failures weigh on her. Then Belos gets into Hunter, slowly growing more powerful until we get to the end. And the Hexolio Treasure hunt would be the final two eps of the block.

The opening montage covers more or less a good set of things that would be one of-episodes, and what isn’t there is in Willow’s scrapbook. We also have the Witch Hunter Wannabe Jacob to be an interim villain while Goo-Belos skulks around attacking bunnies. A slice of life with ominous angst hanging over it.

Back to School (Eps 11-14 or 11-15)

So this is a bit fuzzier, the best use of this space is three-fold.

Establish what happened in the Boiling Isles

Establish the weapons and tools going into handling the Collector

Spacing out the events from the first act from the third act.

I figure the Hooty backstory goes here, a better explanation for how Eda and Lilith were un-collected. And what the Collector is and what they need to do to stop him. On the side of the Eda team in this season.

This means a smaller role on Luz and team Hexside as they work through their baggage from the end of Act 1, hatch Luz’s palisman, check in on the surviving Hexside encampment, and whatever the real plan was with Boscha and the angry kitten. I do think Kiki is the boss fight at the end of this segment, but I feel like it’s a lot more of a ‘Luz and co get a break before the actual endgame’ space.

This feels like it should be the shortest portion, the only way it gets longer is if they put any backstory beats in here for lore junkies.

Nightmares Real and Imagined (Eps 15-19 or 16-20)

So I think the bridge point between the two sections happens as we saw. Collector nabs everyone, starts torturing our heroes cause Belos said it was a good idea. I don’t know if Belos starts in Raine or just ends up in them in a longer season run.

It would make sense to burn a few ‘characters that I guess exist but nobody likes’ such as Terra or the other Coven Leaders who aren’t people we like. No longer having them as concerns if they’re just- withered husks after Belos is done.

A lot happened in the 55 minute version of this section, but I can see each section (the nightmares, the Collector’s games, the travel across the island) being more or less their own episodes. While Belos does Belos nonsense in the background. Culminating in ‘breathing’ and the Collector realizing where Belos has gotten to.

The other advantage to a longer run is more Papa Titan trying to get Luz attention (probably also in the previous section as well, but more here). That someone is out there trying to help. He’d also be the right way to make Light Glyphs the anti-Collector spell.

Luz ‘dying’ is the end of the first half of the finale. And the second episode opens on her in the space between. Then Titan Luz and fighting and NOW EAT THIS SUCKA! It feels like the right tempo when you look at say Season 2′s ending.

Now, here’s where I get greedy.

And they Lived Happily Ever After (Ep 20)

See, I can see the ending credits + postcredits scene as its own episode. Visiting with each of the characters a little bit to set-up that no, the story didn’t end there. It feels too long for a stinger on a 20 minute episode, but I don’t know how feasible it’d be as a standalone.

But I want it as a standalone, so we have more than just a glimpse of who everyone is, we get to actually enjoy some dialog. Del telling Hunter he’s doing a good job. Boscha being pissed she’s washed up while Willow went pro. Whatever weird pirate life Amity has going on. How Amity and Lilith became mentor and student again. What is Vee up to other than baseball.

This isn’t strictly needed, but it would be the right tonal end for the series as a whole. As, yes, sure, fighting genocidal colonizing bastard has been a staple of the show. A huge focus of the show is caring about these characters. So seeing them living their lives would matter more than watching one gooey bastard get stomped on.

No matter how deeply satisfying that was.

If Velma bombs they probably blame it on racist, sexist and homophonic (Is there people that will just hate the show because there gay black woman lead. Yeah there probably the same people that bitch about the Owl House or how Harley Quinn ruined batman.) But that's not the whole audience.

I know this ask isn't about this, but I've watched like half of the first ep.....by god....it sucks! It's really bad...like holy shit.

First of all, the show starts off with Daphne getting shocked at hearing a noise in the locker room. She then sees a cockroach....and then another cockroach starts fucking it. That's how the show starts...cockroaches fucking. Cool...

Then the next scene is Daphne and other teenage girls engaging in typical teenage girl talk. You know when you talked about how in Pilots they have a bunch gratuitous nudity and sex to engage audiences, then Daphne says that she doesn't care for that stuff, then another girl pops outta nowhere and says how we're all secretly perverts and want sex, and then the two fighting each other? Btw, they're all naked in the shower in the locker room. ....I know that's the point of the scene, but it's just not funny and so unnatural.

Also, Velma asks Daphne after smacking her out of the showers with a hockey stick about how she feels about race-blind casting. Daphne says that as an Asian woman (yes, she brings up her race) that it's great because people love a white man playing Jesus or a professional boxer (or wrestler idc), so why it can't it go the other way. Again, all of this...very natural dialogue that definitely doesn't sound like it was made by robots that only viewed humans through political tiktok.

And then a body with no brain falls out the locker. ..............So, yeah, that was the first five minutes. It technically starts with narration from Velma, but the moment I heard fake woke shit...I couldn't listen to it. I'm 13 or 14 minutes in. I had to pause so many times to say stfu because of how pretentious, unnatural, or unfunny the dialogue was.

I understand the whole "beauty in the eye of the beholder" and all that, but whoever this show is made for...has to be blind.

Also, here's some natural dialogue that I forced myself to remember:

Daphne's mom: How long has it been since Daphne's been at your house?

Velma: Uhhhh, since my mom went missing....two years ago

Velma: I'm a suspect? I thought lesbians were good at solving crimes. That's like the one positive stereotype that's perpetuated in cop shows.

Daphne's mom: [...]You were found lurking in the showers like a gym teacher that isn't a gym teacher anymore.

Velma: Boyfriend? You think I want Fred? I mean, if someone wanted to show me a picture of him naked, I'd be all hubba hubba, but I'd say that with anyone. LeBron James, Helen Mirren, a mummy.

Velma's Dad: Velma, I love you. But I'm a lawyer so you have to trust me when I say this. People only think that you murdered Brenda because-

Velma: I was voted "Most Revenge-y" in the school yearbook, I know. Oh, those yearbook guys have no idea what's coming to them.

Velma's Dad: No, you're a weirdo. Ever since your mother disappeared, you haven't hung out with any normal kids.

Daphne: Fred? Naked? Hilarious! We've been dating a year and he hasn't even taken his pants off.

Velma: Whoa! A year? He gay?

Fred: I have an illness that makes me unable to recognize people unless they're hot. My doctor said it's like sickle cell for rich people.

Velma: Is it called rudeness?

Fred: It is! You're, like, really smart!

Velma: Really? Thank you!

Fred: Not a compliment.
