Heya! Really love your art style, especially your Circe design. I was wondering what inspired her (Circe's) design, like the clothing style and all that good stuff, the reason I'm asking is because I also love to design characters and Circe's design really intrigued me, it's really simple yet still very elegant and feminine. So I was wondering what the reference and concepts were :D
Thank you! I don't really have references for Circe, but I can explain some of my choices for her. Hopefully that's helpful! :D
Circe was probably the first EPIC character I drew actually. I remember getting immediately excited for this musical when I noticed she would appear, because at the time I recently finished the Madeline Miller book Circe. So when I started doodling her I was basing mostly on the book interpretation of her character, and because of that, you'll notice that in these drawings she looks way more young and friendly than in the current design.
Tumblr media
(also sorry for the quality on the second image, I sneezed when taking the picture and got too lazy to redo it)
Needless to say, the crop top and the long skirt starting at the hips aren't accurate to the period at all, but that was intentional! I think it fits that she looks so exotic and out of place, as her character in the musical is seen as this foreign threat to Odysseus' crew. She has this unfamiliar, yet seducing aura. Plus, the revealing outfit also represents how freely Circe and her nymphs live in Aeaea. Free of worries and men.
Still, at the time I wasn't really seeing Circe on these drawings. It's hard to explain, but something about her was a little bland, too elegant. Normally when I'm not "feeling it" with my character designs I try associating the character to an animal! I go over in my mind what feelings I want this character to pass off, and which animals better represent said feelings. You can see this pattern in some of my characters, how Athena has owl-like features (owls represent wisdom), how Hera's face resembles a peacock (they represent vanity), and, as I would figure out later, Circe matches with a lioness.
That's the thing that made Circe for me. What was missing on her old design was this feline, wild, but still imposing look. I gave her sharper features, lioness eyes, hair over the face, and shapes to represent various parts of a lioness. And there she was!
Tumblr media
Very proud of her, I think I translated the image I had in my head for her as best as I could. Hope that was helpful in any way! :D

[Click image for better quality]
I FIGURED OUT A WAY TO FUCKING MAKE THE IMAGE SMALLER FOR POSTING ON TUMBLR WITHOUT SACRIFICING THE ACTUAL QUALITY OF THE IMAGE OH MY GOD
Ok so, what I did is go into the clip studio paint file, make a new file, copy and paste the group in the original file, merge everything, get rid of the extra stuff outside of the canvas, and then make the flattened image smaller and crop the canvas. Once you have that, export it and you're done. This helps maintain the actual quality of the image and also helps shrink the file size down to something actually postable (if anyone has a better way of doing this please tell me)
[Edit]: Ok I guess posting something to Tumblr just naturally compresses the image a bit more somehow because I'm looking at it now and zooming in too much makes it a bit blurry so I'm still gonna have to futz around with image quality for future pieces oof
Artist's Note:
I'm so glad I figured out a way to do this because I like working on a big canvas so I can get as much detail in as I possibly can. Only problems are how laggy it gets while drawing lol.
I had an idea for a drawing with Reimu and Zanmu because I really like thinking about their potential dynamic a lot. I also wanted an excuse to draw Zanmu again but in my normal rendering style because last time I drew her she was in my more sketchy style with generally flat colours so I wanted to draw her again. Speaking of, looking at the sketch for this is a jumpscare that I never enjoy seeing, like, man am I glad I didn't use those for my final piece.
Also about her spear. I was originally gonna make it like the ones she had in game, but it kinda threw off the whole piece. It was too big, too blue, and too flat, so I just went "fuck it" and gave her a different one instead. My headcanon justifying this is that the ones she uses in game are for danmaku battles whereas in any other fight she just uses a proper yari, or she still uses the yari and just makes it all glowy to power it up, maybe both lol. I pulled as much inspiration as I could from Sengoku era spears, and even put in some blue into the decorative part of the spear and also added a little skull to pay tribute to the original spear. Also, in my research I saw some art of izanami and izanagi making japan and saw that the yari izanagi has had a little decorative tassley thingy on it so I took some inspo from that and just made it one of Zanmu's tassles (Idk when that art was from or if the spear was still accurate to Sengoku period Japan but hey, probably the same reasons Eirin puts little bow ties on her arrows, it's just for personalization purposes).
I love rendering hair and clothes so much omg, while I like the super curly hair Zanmu, the longer, wavier hair suits her better for this drawing (I imagine it only does that like how Ghibli characters hair moves when they feel angry lol). I love making Zanmu's hair all messy and crazy, as well as giving her grey hairs, this woman has aged like a fine wine. Also, if the hem on the ends of her sleeves, top of her shirt, and her pants look like gold to you, that's because it is! It's fairly light so she's not collapsing under the weight, but it's gold! (I don't care how impractical it is, it's just cool). Not the undershirt though, it's made of a gold fabric. I had a cute idea with Reimu's hair to make it have a red shine to it. I also changed up Reimu's outfit so it isn't just a blob of red. I like it a lot when Reimu's skirt and outfit is segmented into different layers, so I wanted to incorporate that.
I tried to draw their hands differently as well, but IDK how noticeable that is. Also, I am super happy with how the side profiles for the two of them turned out, I used to struggle a lot with how to make the side profile of a character actually look like the character, so I'm really happy that they actually look like themselves.
Also added in the tree and rocks in the background as an homage to Zanmu's character art in Touhou 19, just because I was getting kinda stumped on what to do with the background lol.
In terms of a story idea with Reimu and Zanmu, idk why but the potential plotline of Zanmu wanting to ascend to godhood is so fascinating to me. Like, it is very possible that if she just convinced everyone she was a god (which would be very easy for her to do), she would become one in a heartbeat. Also, if she were to become a god, with her ability to return stuff to nothing, could she hypothetically get similar abilities to (Jojo Part 5 spoiler btw) GER? Like, idk about the death timeloop stuff, but the concept has been haunting me every night as I have been trying to find loopholes in GER's ability for a while now ( for no reason in particular). Back to the main topic, I imagine that she would probably tell Reimu that if she were to become a god she would take over the Hakurei shrine since the god there might as well be dead, and Reimu just says to her, "Over my dead body bitch." Like, I have no idea how to summarize their dynamic but like, it's the type of hero-villain dynamic where the phrase "We're not so different, you and I" would definitely be a phrase said during a fight. I think that if another IN style game were to release, Reimu and Zanmu would be in a team together. They could also have an interesting mentor and pupil kind of dynamic. Can you tell that Zanmu has been charging my mind rent these part few months? Like, instead of living in my head rent free, she kinda just uno reversed the whole situation and now she's the one charging me rent. What happens if I get evicted from my own brain? Actually, scratch that, I don't think I wanna know.

Fluffbruary Prompt List || AO3 Link Here
---------------------------------
“Oh! Let’s look at this stall, Hob!”
Morpheus looks up from his crafting table and is met with the sight of a couple in their early thirties approaching his shop. Or rather, the woman is dragging her partner towards his shop. Morpheus thinks he recognizes her, a thought that is later confirmed as he slowly recognizes the various pieces of her outfit from other vendors on the fairgrounds. She’s adorned in one of Lucienne’s gorgeous handmade corsets, and Morpheus is pretty certain her peasant blouse and skirt are from Matthew and Jessamy’s pirate themed shop. The flower crown expertly woven into her bright blonde hair confirms that the woman is definitely a dedicated attendee. One with plenty of money to spend.
Her partner though, he’s wearing a rented costume so Morpheus thinks it’s probably his first time here. She did call him Hob though. How period accurate for the Renaissance Faire.
“Good morrow my friends,” Morpheus greets them, falling easily into his shopkeeper persona. “How may I assist the Lord and Lady today?” The woman giggles at being addressed as a lady.
“I’ve heard,” she stage-whispers, holding her hand up to her cheek, “that you are the best jeweler in all the lands, good sir.” Her face is full of delight as she says this, and Morpheus cannot help but play along.
“I dare say you have heard the truth m’lady,” Morpheus answers with his own conspiratorial smile. “Shall I show you my collection of wares?” he asks, gesturing to the glass display case just underneath his hands. The woman squeals in delight.
“Oh Hob, they’re so beautiful!” she croons as she dips her head to look at the jewelry displayed inside. She points at a few items she’s interested in, some necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, but decidedly foregoes the rings. Interesting.
“Did you hand make all of these yourself?” the woman asks as she and Hob try on a matching set of Celtic knot necklaces.
“Aye, milady,” Morpheus answers. “We can also customize any piece, and also resize, if needed,” he adds.
“Pretty handy,” the man, Hob, says, finally joining the conversation. He smiles at Morpheus, who feels his face grow warm at the compliment.
Though he hadn’t paid attention to the man as much as the woman when they’d first entered the shop, upon closer inspection, Morpheus realizes that Hob is quite attractive. He was maybe an inch or two taller than Morpheus, with broad shoulders and muscled thighs that were clearly on display in his rented Faire outfit. His chin-length brown hair framed a kind face with thick brows and a full mouth that looked like it had been built for laughing.
And oh, that smile. Hob smiled with his entire face, creasing his brows, eyes, cheeks, and mouth all at once as he appreciates the look of Morpheus’s work around his neck in the mirror. It makes Morpheus’s fingers itch. He wants to dress this man in the finest jewelry he could craft. He wants that smile, that radiance, that warmth, to be directed at Morpheus instead of the woman he’d come here with, even though she’d done nothing to deserve such a fate. But Morpheus has never been looked at the way Hob looks at his girlfriend. He’s rather certain he hasn’t seen many men look at any of their partners that way. It tugs at Morpheus’s freshly broken heart, and he has to force himself to refocus his attention on her instead of her partner, who seemed to have his own gravitational pull.
They eventually leave with the matching necklaces, and the woman, Eleanor, signs up for his mailing list, promising to buy more jewelry on his website. Morpheus believes her too. In addition to the necklaces, she’d bought a set of earrings and bracelets for herself, insisting that Hob not pay for her purchase. Her independence makes Morpheus smile, despite his jealousy. He wonders if next year, he might convince them to upgrade to the engagement, or even the wedding bands.
Morpheus forgets all about the couple by the end of the day, but he feels a sense of melancholy and longing that he cannot quite explain as he packs up his shop for the night. He wonders if maybe he should take up Matthew and Jessamy’s offer for drinks tonight. If only to break out of his monotonous routine.
It wasn’t like there was anyone waiting at home for him anymore, after all.
Morpheus doesn’t recognize Hob at first when the man wanders into his shop a year later with a rowdy group of friends. They’re all clearly drunk, and Morpheus is curious as to what about his shop could have possibly caught this group’s eye.
But then he sees the Celtic knot hanging from Hob’s neck, resting on a very hairy chest, and recognition dawns on Morpheus.
“I’d recognize that pendant and chain anywhere,” Morpheus greets with a smile, which causes a rowdy set of encouraging shouts and playful ribbing to erupt from the group.
“You do, do you?” Hob asks, his words only a little bit slurred as he smiles at Morpheus, a tankard of what smells like mead and beer in his hand.
“I do,” Morpheus answers with his own smile. “But it seems to be missing its partner. Tell me, where is the Lady this lovely afternoon?”
Morpheus knows immediately he’s asked the wrong thing when Hob’s face falls.
“Oy mate, don’t bring up the man’s ex like that!” one of Hob’s friends scolds Morpheus, which makes Morpheus wince. A small chorus of boos erupts from the group as well.
“Ignore them,” Hob says, waving at his friends to shut up. “They mean well but I walked in here wearing one half of a set, it only makes sense you’d ask.”
“Still,” Morpheus insists. “I’m sorry about—er—” Morpheus is horrified to realize he has completely forgotten the woman’s name.
“Hah!” Hob laughs, clearly amused rather than offended. “Her name was Eleanor. I’m Hob by the way.”
“I know,” Morpheus says, then winces again.
“Do you, now?” Hob asks, with a cheeky grin. He places his tankard of unknown alcohol on Morpheus’s display case and then leans on it. “You remember my name, but not Eleanor’s?”
“She called you by name multiple times, and Hob isn’t exactly the most common of names used when taking on a Faire persona,” Morpheus says, hoping that his explanation doesn’t sound nearly half as creepy as he feels.
“I know, that’s why I picked it,” Hob grins. “I do use it outside of here too, you know.”
“You do not,” Morpheus replies, aghast. What man in his right mind would willingly go by the name Hob and risk endless jokes on doorknobs and stoves?
“I do,” Hob says with a wink before he bows dramatically. “Professor Hob Gadling of the Medieval Studies Department of XX University, at your service, my good sir.”
“Oy Hobsie, stop showing off!” one of Hob’s friends calls from a different part of the shop. Morpheus hadn’t even noticed they’d dispersed to look around, he had been so entranced by Hob’s reappearance.
“Yeah, are you buying anything? You’re the one that wanted to come here!”
“Ah, is the good sir looking for something new?” Morpheus asks, slipping back into character, and hoping to hide his embarrassment. “Mayhaps something to help ease a broken heart?”
“Something like that,” Hob answers, sheepishly, his fingers fiddling with his right ear. Morpheus tries to show how entranced he is by the motion. “Listen I was wondering if—uh—well, you know—if there was time—”
“He wants to know if you’re single and ready to mingle!” one of Hob’s friends shouts, followed by a loud chorus of agreement. “And if you’re into men!” another one adds.
“What the flying fuck Davey!” Hob turns and shouts at his friends, who all laugh and raise their glasses to a toast.
“Get your man Hobsie, so we can keep getting drunk!”
Hob groans and hides his face in his hands, muttering something about ‘worst wingmen ever’ and Morpheus cannot help it. He bursts into laughter, and has to clutch at the cash register behind him for support.
“I don’t suppose we can forget this whole thing ever happened?” Hob asks, once Morpheus has caught his breath. His face is red with embarrassment, and Morpheus wonders if the man blushes so prettily on other parts of his body as well.
“I’m afraid not,” Morpheus answers, shaking his head solemnly. “But my evening is available after the Faire closes tonight,” he adds with a wry smile.
Hob’s entire body perks up immediately. “Seriously? You’re interested?”
“As long as you intend for us to be alone,” Morpheus answers, his eyes falling to Hob’s posse behind him.
“Abso-fucking-lutely!” Hob exclaims, nodding eagerly. Morpheus cannot help but smile as Hob’s friends continue to tease him while they exchange contact information and make plans to meet outside the Faire grounds later. He even manages to make a few sales from the group. Morpheus wishes Hob could stay longer and that they could talk more, but the post-lunch crowd that spills into the shop dashes those plans for now.
Hob doesn’t miss an opportunity to show off again though. He takes Morpheus’s hand and kisses it, bowing deeply, and causing the rest of the shop to coo and cheer at the romantic display.
“I shall miss you dearly, beloved, until we next meet again,” Hob declares loudly as he exits the shop with his friends.
“You’re seeing him tonight you dingbat!” Morpheus hears one of his friends laugh.
After the post-lunch crowd leaves, Morpheus sits at his crafting table, looking over his in-progress projects, and wonders if custom jewelry is a bit too much for a first date. Hob had worn the Celtic knot necklace though, and it was clear he needed a replacement.
Rubies, Morpheus decides. Hob would look good in rubies. Morpheus readjusts the setup of his table and gets to work, mentally counting down the minutes until he’d be able to see Hob’s smiling face again.

Ranking Men's Costumes in Period Dramas - Part II: The Good
Part I: The Bad
This is the second part to my ranking of men's costumes in Renaissance period dramas. I selected 10 shows and films which I think have great costuming for the female characters and ranked them according to their costumes for male characters. I have noticed that even when women's costuming is great, men's costuming might be absolutely dog shit. And that's very much what we saw in the first part, where I ranked the five worst entries. For some reason shows and movies are afraid to put men, especially the characters who are supposed to be cool, manly and hot, into historical costumes. And I'm not even asking for historical accuracy, I just don't want my male characters living in the actual 1500s in basically modern leather jackets and pants. Like I don't watch period dramas for vaguely historically inspired modern fashion, I watch it for the historical setting, which costumes help create. This time we will be looking some rare gems that actually imo have really good costuming even for the male characters. For the five best entries, we'll go from worst to best.
5. Eizabeth R (1971)
Elizabeth R is incredibly committed to historical accuracy in it's outfits, especially for queen Elizabeth herself, many of her costumes being directly recreated from her portraits. It covers the whole reign of Elizabeth, so this commitment is especially admirable as the timeline is more than 40 years, including a stark shift in fashion from less structured and more toned down Tudor fashion to the extremes of the highly structured Elizabethan fashion. It's not perfect, The hair is not always great and like many others they fail at French hoods, though they are not upward pointing or pseudo crowns detached from the hood, so could be much worse.
Tumblr media
The men's costumes are also very good. They are faithful to history, they wear stockings, very short trunk hose, ruffs and even have some structuring in their doublets and jerkins. However, the reason this is not higher is that the men's costumes especially, but also many other costumes beside Elizabeth's are looking a little sloppy. There's some structure yes, but the men's silhouettes are just not bold enough and they end up looking a little costumy. Even the codpieces are shrunk so small I'm not even sure if they are the half the time. Cowardice. Here's two Robert Dudley's costumes and an actual portrait of him. I think the second costume is probably an attempt at recreation of that portrait, but it's just kinda halfway there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Taming of the Shrew (1967)
This film is set in Renaissance Italy, the women's costumes fit well to 1520s-30s. They are honestly really great and cohesive. My only gripe is that their bodices have a very 1960s shape and the make-up is a little distractingly modern. But the costuming is not attempting to recreate historical accuracy, rather they took the historical silhouette and basic elements and crafted a very over the top but cohesive look. I honestly love these very much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An interesting choice is made with the men's costuming, especially the main male lead, whose costume is based much more on the Renaissance German men's fashion of that period. His costumes resemble the over the top fashion of the German Landsknecht (first image below). In Italy (second image below) the doublets were also very voluminous and quite colourful but not to that extent as by the Landsknecht and literally no one, not even the other Germans, rocked that slashed style as hard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is not really criticism though. In fact I respect that choice a lot. His costumes are certainly not historically accurate, but they do fit the bombastic aesthetics of the overall costuming, they are loud, large and not afraid to fuck around. This man oozes sex-appeal much more than any character with some modern plain black pants and leather jacket. This is how you costume a Renaissance man who fucks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Tulip Fever (2017)
I am stretching the definition or Renaissance here a bit, I admit. This movie is set during the 1630s tulip mania, by which point the remnants of Renaissance fashion had already been left to the previous decade. However, I do think most of the movies and tv set in Baroque era also struggle with the men's costumes. Though not as much, because black was fashionable for everyone, the cod piece was gone, trunk hose were replaced by more palatable Venetian hose, fashion was much more stripped down from embellishments, leather was not uncommon in jerkins and appeared even in doublets and hose and the Hollywoods beloved boots became as actual fashion items. The men's silhouette in this period is very silly in my opinion and people seem to agree because it's usually skipped in costuming, but overall the period seems to fit modern masculinity standards much more easily than Renaissance era.
But I just really wanted to include this because the costuming is absolutely stunning. I have not watched the movie and probably never will because the post production was an absolute mess and it apparently came out as just a bad movie, which is a shame, but the costumes are so good. The ruffs are perfectly crispy. The buttons are dense and look just right. The shoes, both boots and otherwise are exactly right. The fabrics are honestly perfect. The silhouettes are just as goofy as they are supposed to be. And the women too have perfect silhouettes. All the details are just simply perfect. You rarely find costuming this meticulously created with historical details and great construction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly these top three could all be the best one. This final order was decided purely on which costumes i like more. And while I love the women's fashion of this period, I think the men's fashion is kinda stupid and boring, so I don't like these costumes on aesthetic level as much as the top two.
2. Romeo and Juliet (1968)
This movie is a perfect counterpart to the movie with the worst men's costuming which I talked about in the first post, Rosaline. They are both set in Italy around very end of 15th century and retell Romeo and Juliet. Both have very good costuming for female characters but obviously I think differ greatly in the male character costuming department. Romeo and Juliet costuming takes some artistic liberties to create a heightened reality quite similar to Taming of the Shrew costuming, but follows history much more closely. The colors are bright, the hose are tight, the giorneas are voluminous, the sleeves are long and massive and the cod pieces are prominent. Even the hair is perfect, even for women, they even use hairnets. I imagine the hair was quite easy to get right as hairstyles in 60s and 70s were basically lifted directly from 1400s Italian hairstyles. The men are even wearing appropriate hats??? Amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The costuming perfectly captures the era, but they still clearly had fun with the costumes too. Honestly even though I appreciate the meticulously recreated historically accurate costuming, like in Tulip Fever, I tend to like more costuming that does take some artistic liberties to create a distinct look and atmosphere for the movie or tv show. There's some small things they don't get quite right, like having standard lacing instead of ladder lacing, metal eyelets (which would become a thing as late as in 1830s) and most egregiously Juliet in one scene has this very dumb supportive undergarment without even shift under it (first picture below)?? The outer garments were supportive during this era, there was no such thing as supportive undergarment. Shift was the only undergarment. But I will forgive these errors because the costuming is overall so fun and gorgeous. And they did get some details so so right, like look at Romeo's arming doublet (second picture below)! It has Lombardian sleeves!! This was a very specific style of arming doublet for this era and place. However those errors does prevent it from taking the first place. Which leads us to...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Orlando (1992)
This movie has Tilda Swinton in flamboyant Elizabethan men's clothing. That's all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, I that is all that needs to be said, but I will say more. This movie spans centuries and shows excellent costumes from several different periods, but I will focus on the Elizabethan costumes only for the sake of this post. The costuming is not super historically accurate in all the detailing, and clearly not trying to be, but it is always impeccable. Even while it takes artistic liberties and the story has an immortality fantastical element it still captures the men's fashion's silhouette much better than any other movie or tv show I know of set in this period. It does that better than the "we recreated these portraits" Elizabeth R. But what really makes this the best in my humble opinion, is that the movie is not afraid of the effeminate and emasculated modern perception of Renaissance men's fashion, no, it leans into it. The thole story is very much about gender and gender fuckery. Tilda Swinton plays the titular Orlando who is a cis man in Elizabethan era, becomes inexplicably immortal and later inexplicably turns into a woman for the rest of their several centuries. He is the embodiment of "I'm not sure if they are a butch or a twink" and as a bisexual I can only be grateful. But in all seriousness I think the costuming and the casting (queen Elizabeth is also played by a male actor) are so perfectly utilized to highlight the arbitrary construction of gender without needing to say it explicitly.
Conclusion
I have some closing thoughts. I took on this task as a way to show a point, which is that for some reason in Renaissance shows and film especially men's costuming is piss-poor, even when women's costuming is great. Male characters tend to have very bad costuming in Medieval media too, though this is also an issue for female characters. I don't think I have ever seen a Medieval show or movie with truly excellent costuming for anyone. In Renaissance media the issue is clearly not lack of skill or knowledge, they choose to do so. My thesis was that the producers think that the Renaissance men's fashion is too effeminate and too unsexy for the hot male very heterosexual lead, who the mostly female audience are supposed fawn over like the female characters. I still think it's very true.
Though there's an interesting trend I only noticed while doing this ranking; every entry (except the least bad) in the worst five list are from 21th century, and every entry (except Tulip Fever which is a little bit cheating anyway) in this best five list are from 20th century. I have some theories on why it turned out this way. First is that the studios have become increasingly more concerned with growing profits so they don't take risks and they put pressure on movies and tv shows to be as broadly appealing as possible. This means they can't just make period dramas for the core audience of period dramas, aka mostly women who are history nerds, so they pander to the modern sensibilities in costuming and not to the people who love to see actual historical costuming. Secondly, I think this might also tie to the broader conservative backlash against loosening of gender roles and broader queer acceptance. Among the core audiences of period dramas there are two distinct groups, queer nerds and conservative/centrist women, who don't want politics in their media, which is why they love historical stories because obviously queerness wasn't invented yet and people of colour didn't exist yet (they were and did). (They are not always this extreme, but you get the point.) As men wearing dresses has become a culture war issue, I think the studio executives are afraid that anything not masculine enough in modern standards might cause the more conservative audiences to turn on them. Even if they knew about the queer nerds, they wouldn't care about them.
This bears repeating: cowards.
As a thank you for reading all the way to the end I will leave you with the image of Tilda Swinton in mid 1600s men's clothing. You are welcome.

The Last Hours Fashion Pt 2
Chain of Thorns comes out TOMORROW!!!! Just in time, here’s my analysis of the official art by @nicole.deal.art in terms of historical accuracy. I’ve already reviewed the girls’ outfits, so now it’s time for the guys!
There aren’t as many primary sources available for Edwardian menswear, and men’s fashion in general tends to change less from era to era. Men’s business and formalwear has stayed basically the same shape for the past 130 years. Keeping that in mind, let’s look at some of these pictures and see how well they hold up.
James
Tumblr media
James looks pretty good! The picture looks like it’s at night, so he’s probably wearing evening dress. The high collar and cravat is a distinctly Edwardian style, as seen in the outfit on the right here:
Tumblr media
This guy is also wearing a wrap-around waistcoat in a similar style to James’. To make it really accurate, he’d be wearing a hat and jacket, but this picture is obviously showing a fight scene so I can imagine that he lost both at some point. If we’re being really pedantic, James’ hair should also be a bit shorter, but I appreciate that a haircut is probably not high on his list of priorities right now.
Accuracy: 8/10
Matthew
Tumblr media
Matthew is a self-described bohemian, and is also very concerned with fashion, so we can expect his clothes to be a bit more colourful and decorated than was possibly the norm. This is also at night, so eveningwear again. It looks like he’s wearing a tailcoat— if you look closely, the cut is similar to the ones in this picture from 1904:
Tumblr media
The slight problem with eveningwear is that every source I’ve found suggests that Edwardian evening dress for men was almost exclusively black-and-white tuxedos. In fact, menswear from this time was pretty boring in terms of colour. However, Matthew is, as mentioned, a bohemian, and textually wears very colourful clothing. Same issues as James re: hat and hair, but I can justify it the same way as with James.
And some pictures of cravats for comparison:
Tumblr media
The gloves are also interesting. Evening gloves were almost always white, whereas these are dark grey, but I’m prepared to believe they’re either Shadowhunter fighting gloves or worn for warmth in the street after a party.
Accuracy: 7/10
Thomas and Alastair
Tumblr media
They’re wearing Shadowhunter gear, which there are obviously no historical references for, so I can’t really analyse it. I’m interested in how their gear differs— Thomas’ seems to be mostly leather, whereas Alastair appears to be wearing a vaguely Georgian puffy white shirt with metal throat, shoulder and wrist guards. We don’t have very many canon images of Shadowhunter gear, so it’s interesting to look at.
On a side not, Cassie said on her Instagram that this picture is of them in an abandoned Paddington Station. I’ve been to Paddington, and the background looks absolutely spot on. Kudos to the artist!
Accuracy: 10/10 just for the background.

I don’t have very much to say about this one. The shirt is pretty generic but the trousers are interesting. The distinctive front flap with the two buttons isn’t a style you see with the Edwardians, who have moved on to someone more resembling the modern fly. And yes, I googled “how did the Edwardians fasten their trousers” to find this information. Jesse’s trousers more resemble Regency breeches, as you can see in this pictures:
Tumblr media
This is interesting, considering the links I drew between Grace’s dress and Regency fashion in my last post. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow if my time travel theory was correct!
The jacket looks like a fairly Edwardian standard coat with the sleeves rolled up. Not much to say except that the deep green colour is possibly slightly unrealistic but it’s a tiny thing.
Accuracy: 6/10
Christopher
Tumblr media
Christopher’s hard at work in his lab, and accordingly isn’t wearing fancy clothes. Like Jesse, this is a fairly basic trousers and shirt ensemble that fits pretty well with the period.
Things get interesting when we start looking at the apron and goggles. PPE (personal protective equipment) isn’t strictly fashion, so I had to do a bit more digging into this one as it’s not an area I knew much about.
The goggles could be period inaccurate, depending on how you look at it. The first form of eye protection for welding was developed by the inventor Powell Johnson in 1880. Johnson called his invention “eye protectors” and it was simply two strips of opaque cloth that could be seen through while still offering some protection.
Safety glass— glass coated in plastic to prevent shattering— was invented by Edouard Benedictus in 1903, when TLH is set. However, it wasn’t until 1909 that the first safety glasses were invented by Julius King. So Christopher’s eyewear is about six years ahead of its time. On the other hand, it’s entirely possible that Shadowhunters— probably the Iron Sisters in particular— were using protective eyewear before mundanes and Christopher is simply adopting the technology. But if we’re going by a purely historical standpoint, the goggles are a bit off.
The apron nearly drove me insane because I could not find any sources from the Edwardian era that show a similar style. The best I could find out is that bib aprons have been worn for welding since the 1880, so it’s reasonably accurate. Christopher really needs to pull it up a bit higher, though. Your shirt’s getting scorched, mate. PPE is no joke.
Accuracy: 5/10
As a last note of interest, while I was researching I came across this image I just had to share. It’s a cartoon that appeared in the Tacoma Times in 1903 and satirically depicts “men’s clothing designed by women”. Look at these guys. The og malewives. Poor little meow meows.

Aaand there we go! I probably spent way too much time on this, but it was fun. I’ll see you all on the other side after I’ve finished Chain of Thorns. Remember to tag your spoilers!

I don't usually post my art here, but I wanted to share my redesigns of Nifty and Alastor!
Something about their canon designs bug me, so I thought I might as well take it into my own hands to make them a little more to my tastes.
The sketch looks good too :)
Tumblr media
Design notes below cut!
Alastor:
- Changed mostly red colour scheme to a more browns and reds one. The entirely red colour scheme was a little bit of an eyesore.
- Gave him curlier hair.
- He is now wearing more 1930s-esque clothing! He probably should be wearing a tie instead of a bow, but I wanted to keep some aspects of his character in the design
- Changed his mic to be period-accurate. I think his canon mic is fairly accurate, although obviously very stylised due to it being a weapon(?). This one looks fancier in my opinion lol.
Nifty:
- Gave her a maturer look. I felt in the canon design she was a little childish for a 22 year old, especially for a 1950s gal.
- Switched her colour scheme a little.
- Also gave her curlier hair. Her messy straight bob is cute, but in the 50s there were a lot of curls and poofs in hairstyles. Kept her hair messy though :p
- Made her outfit look more like it's from the 1950s. The poodle skirt was cute but a bit of a cliché when thinking of 50s dresses.
- Took away the maid apron :( She can still have it sometimes, I just wanted to highlight the dress. I think it's a little weird she is always wearing the apron even when not at work.

Kloktober 2023: Day 3 - Mordhaus Costume Ball
I have had the intrusive thought of Vater Orlaag dressed as Black Beard loosely based off of the version of Black Beard from Our Flag Means Death for two or three weeks now. This is probably rated about Teen and as usual includes my OC Lucy. 1,711 words below the cut. <3 Also wanted to mention that Charles' costume description was inspired by this post by @chordsykat
“Master, you’re certain that I’m the best choice for this?”
“Out of anyone here, you’re the best at masking yourself.” At least, he was the best at it other than Salacia, but Salacia couldn't exactly go to the Ball even disguised, the Dead Man would recognize him immediately.
Vater Orlaag nodded, but internally he felt the equivalent of a long-suffering sigh.
~~~~~
The Mordhaus Costume Ball was, in a word, opulent. The room that the band typically used to put on performances for new Klokateers was cleared out and decorated with Victorian Gothic décor, and they were calling it the “Mask of the Red Deth” Costume Ball. It was mostly other celebrities who had been invited, metal musicians and musicians that the band had simply met with throughout the years, but there were also some actors milling about and a few high-ranking Klokateers who were in attendance as guests, a reward for their service to the band.
Everyone in the band was dressed to the nines: Nathan was wearing a black ruffled shirt and leather pants that tied rather than buttoned up. His mask was a leather skull in metallic gold. Murderface wore something more period accurate for nobility that had actually made him feel attractive when he looked in the mirror, a black and red mask complimenting the outfit. Toki wore something that looked almost like a dark Viking outfit in blacks and greens with a mask that had long golden horns as part of it. Skwisgaar looked elf-like, opting for a more androgynous costume in whites and golds, and accented with silver elf ear jewelry combined with a wire wrapped mask.
Pickles looked, in a word, stunning. His dreads were up, and he was wearing tight leather pants, knee high boots, and a black shirt underneath a black and red leather trench coat with pointed shoulders. His mask looked like a black and red skull, emphasizing the theme of the Ball. Lucy was in a corseted black and blood red ball gown with spider web mesh sleeves and a traditional French style corset top, straight lined at the top allowing for what most would consider a minor wardrobe malfunction, something that she had convinced Charles to allow her to get away with because she was “in her own damned ‘haus and the French used to do this as a fashion statement.” He had only agreed because the look genuinely was elegant, if not distracting. The front of the skirt only just covered her, showing off the same spider print mesh on her legs, and the back of the gown trailed slightly. She held a fan in her hand all night, and her leather mask was an intricate black cat with red, silver and gold detailing, matching the elegant collar that she was wearing with rose details tooled into the leather. Her hair was down, but there were two braids that started near her forehead and met and the back of her head like a crown, her bright rainbow hair juxtaposed with her outfit, yet somehow meshing with it perfectly.
Dick was wearing something that could be better characterized as steampunk than anything else, playing up his cybernetic eyes almost as though they were part of his mask. Even Charles was dressed up, his outfit featuring a sleek black corset that emphasized his form and a mask that looked oddly like a darker version of Facebones.
The party was in full swing, and everyone was in bright spirits, mingling, dancing, and socializing. Lucy was having a relatively in-depth conversation with Pickles, when he walked into the room. Lucy happened to glance over at the door just as he was coming in, her hand stopping mid-fan. She lost any semblance of what her best friend was saying in that moment, her eyes drinking the man in. His mask was simple black leather, only covering around his piercing blue eyes that looked like they had thick black eyeliner around them. His long, flowing wavy hair and beard were midnight black, almost as though he had dyed it just for the event, and it looked as though there was smoke coming out of the intricate braids on his beard that were curled outward. The outfit that he wore was entirely made of leather, tight leather pants hugging thick, strong thighs that left nothing to the imagination, a leather jacket that was missing one arm revealing an arm that was toned and strong, leather half gloves, and several belts, one of which had a holster with a dagger in it. He must have stood at almost 7 feet tall and he was buzzing with an intense energy.
Lucy was so busy ogling the man that she hadn’t noticed that Pickles had followed her gaze and had gone silent, now ogling him himself. “Holy shit, dood. Look, I know ya gaht first dibs, but if ya strike out er if he’s down fer a little Double Trouble, come get me, ahlreet? Fuck.”
Lucy nodded, not taking her eyes off of him. “Yeah. Gods, that’d be hot… Who the fuck is he?”
“I don’t know, but if ya don’t get over there, someone else will.”
She was already turning to start walking over to him, “You sure you don’t mind if-“
“Luce, that someone else is gahnna be me in about 5 seconds, go.”
Pickles did not need to tell Lucy twice. She was walking at a speed that indicated any semblance of dignity and restraint had already gone out the window. When she got closer, she made sure to walk with a confident stride, walking right up to him with a wicked little grin on her face.
Vater had seen her walk over, and was currently doing his absolute best not to openly stare at her chest. It didn't help in the slightest that he had an irritating attraction to this woman since the first day that she popped up on the Tribunal's giant screen during a meeting. He didn’t want to allow himself to get distracted, but part of the success of his mission of getting the information that Salacia had wanted was blending in, and that meant social pleasantries. Even still, he was hoping that she wouldn’t prove to be too much of a distraction.
Lucy stopped in front of him, her eyes full of Devilish promise and offering her hand to shake his. “I couldn’t help but notice you coming in from across the room and I had to come over to compliment your costume and introduce myself.”
He didn’t get where he was without knowing how to be charming, so when she offered her hand, Vater took it and brought it to his lips, kissing it and nibbling the knuckle slightly all while looking her in the eyes with a gaze that could have been hypnotic. Lucy bit her lip and visibly shivered, her pupils dilating from the sheer intensity of the moment, making him grin at her reaction. “Your costume choice is rather stunning as well.”
"Holy sweet Jesus, his voice." She had the thought that he could read her the period table of elements and she'd still listen without complaint. Lucy blushed and stepped in a little closer to him, reaching out and running her hand slowly and deliberately down his exposed forearm, “Why don’t we go get a drink and chat, maybe get to know each other before I inevitably drag you out of here with me?”
He chuckled darkly. She was wonderfully brazen. Perhaps he could find all the information that Salacia had needed from her. There was some distant part of his mind telling him that he was lying to himself and not to allow himself to get distracted by the slip of a woman, but that part was being loudly drowned out by the warmth of her body now very close to him and the sound of her sultry laughter.
The two of them talked for a while, Vater finding out absolutely nothing that Salacia needed and forgetting about the mission entirely after about two minutes of being in her presence.
When she finally officially invited him back to her room, Lucy raised a playful eyebrow at him, “What’s the chance you swing both ways?”
He looked at her inquisitively, and then saw her look over at Pickles, following her gaze. The Drummer was in rare form tonight, the man cleaned up well. It certainly wouldn’t be Vater’s first time with a man. There was a predatory smile on his face that made Lucy’s pupils dilate and her body shiver. From across the room, Pickles glanced up at the two of them, and seeing the look on the tall man’s face it was a wonder that he didn’t bolt across the room at them.
Pickles had a cocky smirk on his face as he approached them, walking straight up to Vater with an unholy amount of confidence, “Well, hey d’ere, tall, dark, an’ dangerous. Yah ready fer a little Double Trouble?”
There was a dark little chuckle that had Lucy and Pickles weak in the knees as the three of them walked out, one of them to each of his arms, barely making it to Lucy’s room and not coming out until sometime the next afternoon. Lucy and Pickles practically limped down to the kitchen, using each other to keep themselves upright, grinning like idiots, and Vater left with two phone numbers and very insistent “call me’s” and “get home safe’s” from the two of them.
~~~~~
When Vater arrived back at the bunker, he went immediately to see Salacia, knowing that he was hours late for the previously planned private debriefing. He was still in costume and looked as though he had got no sleep.
“What did you manage to find out?” Salacia asked him, already having the needling feeling that the mission had been a failure.
Vater looked at him, wondering if he could bullshit his way through the fact that the mission itself had failed before it started. “I was able to determine that the band can be… very persuasive… when they want to be Master.” He kept the fact that he now had two of their phone numbers to himself.
Salacia eyed the love bites on his servant’s neck and scowled.
Bonus vibe:

The new Lame Mis collab was “draw some characters wearing your home region’s traditional, period accurate clothes !”. But no one told me I couldn’t draw dresses. So now you get to enjoy Bahorel and Feuilly wearing not only men clothing, but some wonderful dresses, aprons and especially headpieces from Alsace !
I have to admit that the men clothes were fun to draw, but the dresses were hilarious. They probably hate me and I don’t care.
Alsace rules ♥
[image ID : Bahorel, a tall, tan man with long black hair, black eyes and a black beard, and Feuilly, a small, white man with copper hair in curls, golden eyes and a lot of freckles, are wearing different traditional clothes from Alsace. Dressed as a man, Bahorel is wearing a black jacket and pants, red waistcoat with two lines of buttons, a white shirt with a black bowtie, and a black hat with the back rim pulled up. He has a hand on his hip and is talking animatedly. As a woman, he’s wearing a blue dress with a corset top, over a white blouse closed at the neck with a blue ribbon, an orange and green apron and black shoes. On his head is a large, black headpiece in the shape of a bow, with flowers embroidered on the ribbons. He’s holding a basket on his hip and hiding his face with part of the headpiece. Dressed as a man, Feuilly is wearing the same outfit as Bahorel, minus the jacket. The rim of his hat is straight. He’s standing with arms crossed. As a woman, his dress is red and he’s wearing a black apron over a blouse, and a colorful shawl. His headpiece is solid black. He’s standing, his arms limp, and he looks very unhappy. There are four drawings arranged so each of the Bahorels is talking with each of the Feuillys. The background is light green. end ID]

I have never played ensemble stars and I know nothing about it beyond rhythm gacha game, I just like memes. these are my conclusions based on meme only context
-purple hair in braid seems to be some kind of neurotic socially inept vampire (mood)
-ginger with the stupid headband thing appears to be a bit of a slut
- there's too many gingers it took me way too long to realize there were probably identical twins in there and not one guy pasted twice
-on second thought headband guy seems like a lot of a slut
-the guy with greenish blue hair and glasses looks like a pathetic pile of issues. I don't mean this as an insult I mean this in way you'd react to a cat with its head stuck in a plastic bag
-red hair glasses is a crypto bro
-I can't tell all the gingers apart please help me
-bright aqua hair is like. aquatic? a swimmer? a fish? just really likes water for some reason? soggy???
-gray hair dead anime mom hairstyle has anime boy personality trait of eats all the time
-short black hair has anime boy personality trait of sleeps all the time
-long black hair might also be a vampire??? where are these vampires coming from. or at least he's goth and weird about it I dunno
-how many blondes are there???
-there's too many of them I give up. also why was one of them in a bee costume
HEHEHE these are pretty accurate !!!
the purple haired guy is mayoi and that is exactly what he is , except hes more of a ghost than a vampire ( he is scared of vampires )
stupid headband boy is rinne , and he is definitely a complete manwhore
the twins are hinata and yuta !! its a bit tricky to tell the difference at first but hinata has pink hairclips and wears them on the right , and yuta has blue hairclips and wears them on the left .
green glasses guy is keito . cat stuck in a plastic bag is a pretty good way to sum him up . hes a responsible guy , but also a total nerd .
( edit: i got a bit confused who you were talking about , BLUE glasses guy is tsumugi , and that description is exactly what he is )
red glasses guy is ibara , he is DEFINITELY a crypto bro .
bright blue guy is kanata !! he loves water and marine life and does not like being dry for long periods of time , so he immediately soaks himself in any water source in sight . ironically he cant swim and often nearly drowns .
gray hair is niki !! hes a chef and thinks about nothing but food at any given time and doesnt really care about anything that isnt cooking related . hes always trying to quit his job as an idol so he can be a chef full time but it never works out for him . he has super high metabolism so hes hungry constantly .
short black hair is ritsu , hes a vampire and sleeps all day , and then wakes up at night .
long black hair is rei who is also a vampire , hes ritsus older brother . he also is pretty useless until nighttime but hes more tolerant of daytime than ritsu . their whole family has an illness that makes them have a lot of vampiric traits .
i believe there are 8 blondes , which is a lot yes .
the bee costume is bc his unit is called crazy:b , which is bee themed !! one of the events has them funny little bee outfits , its very cute .

I decided to re-design her ^^ because the Inuyasha writers make me so angry. Keep in mind they're only rough sketches and I'll probably do more in depth ones later
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two different designs are her in the two different time periods. This is kind of both a re-design and a re-write so I’m going to tell you about it for funzies
Okay so some basic information on my redesign of Kagome :
- She's a little chubbier before going to the Feudal era and becomes more toned with broader shoulders after she starts going regularly
- Every 24 hours in the Feudal Era is an hour in the present day, which also makes more sense considering the fact that its canon that the choices she makes in the Feudal era affect the present day history, meaning the time discrepancy should be smaller if not nonexistent
- Kagome trained in archery for most of her childhood as an extra-curricular, as she had a natural talent for it that her mother discovered while they were searching for extra-curricular activities for Kagome to do in her downtime
- Her grandfather is actually quite knowledgeable in seals and ancient practices and although she is bored with his old stories most of the time she does retain a lot of the information regarding the practices and she becomes more interested in it as time goes on in the Feudal era
- I made her 20 because I think it’s very yucky that she’s fifteen and Inuyasha (though he has the maturity of a young adult) is nearly 200 years old. Plus it generally is just weird considering the interactions she has with some of the adult men in the show. The way I resolved this was I decided she’s incredibly smart but often doesn’t have time to focus on school between helping around the house and the shine and with her brother so she continuously fails her classes. She has taken her last year of high school twice and if she fails again this year she’ll be expelled, which puts extra pressure on her to find a balance between her home life, the feudal era, school, and friends.
- In my rewrite Kagome becomes a very powerful and accomplished priestess. She is proficient in combat (especially as she gets more practice) and her ability to create sacred arrows is beyond impressive. She is capable of holding her own on the battlefield and when captured she is capable of making efforts to escape on her own. I find it annoying that we get glimpses at what Kagome could be in the anime regarding her strength and resolve but its always thrown out so she can be saved by Inuyasha or someone else
- I gave her a more accurate and less fetishy school uniform. I also think it's completely impractical the way she wears her uniform in the Feudal era instead of changing so I changed that as well
- Her Feudal era uniform is a high priestess outfit similar to Kikyo’s, though there are some key differences in its design to make them distinguishable. Kagome has her hair in two low ponytails that she often drapes over her shoulders and lets hang down her front. I imagine Kagome wears more jewelry and more practical shoes, probably boots of some sort as well. As far as character designs go it's not the best because of their similar silhouettes but my justification is that since Kagome is her reincarnation so it still makes sense.
- I imagine Kagome doesn’t spend all of her time in priestess garb, though I'm not well versed in the more casual outfits of the Feudal era. The priestess garb is probably usually for around Kaede’s Village and on longer travels. If she is anticipating battle (especially after meeting Sango) I’m sure she wears something more armored and closer to Sango’s outfit.
- The bag I gave her for the Feudal era is what I found when I was looking for traditional bags for that time period. A lot of the thought I put into her outfit is based on the intent of making her blend in. The backpack she keeps doesn't make sense from a tactical standpoint, and only works to put a target on her back, as well as her clothes. The character on her bag is the Kanji for guarding, defense, and protection.
-Also please ignore that I forgot what a quiver is called el oh el
Now the general story :
- Inuyasha stays the same age because, as far as I can tell, 200 for demons seems to be the maturity level of 20 for humans
- His personality doesn't change much, he’s still kind of a bitch and he still has mostly the same character development throughout, though he has more respect for Kagome’s abilities while still being worried about her / being protective of her
- Miroku is mostly the same at the beginning but he’s not fucking nasty to kids and his character development comes sooner after we meet him. He’s more respectful to Sango probably over the course of a season or so
- Shippo stays the same I love Shippo more than anything
- The story largely follows Kagome’s abilities and her powers growing as well as Inuyasha’s development with accepting that he doesn't need to be a full demon to be powerful. It less relies on Kagome being useless and Inuyasha swooping in to save her and more follows the both of them learning how to work together. If anything Miroku takes Kagome’s place and becomes the one getting captured as he doesn’t use the wind tunnel out of actual fear of being enveloped by it. Without it he’s not very useful in battle, having not seen much of it outside of protecting his old shrine.

Hey Maue! I just want your advice and criticism on my designs of my human characters (one is my demon character Stolas, but locked into a human body, and the other is a regular human who he protected as a "human") This time period I made for them is focused on Victorian Era of Siberia, Russia. I looked up Victorian Era Russian Clothing and I drew what I first saw come up as I couldn't find much! What's your opinion on these? What could I change to fit the time period as that's what I'm most fucused on right now, since Sofia's design I'm not exactly pleased with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stolas is basically locked into Sova Stepan's body and us basically him, and Sova's full name literally means "crowned owl". I intended on having Stolas also born into a human body years later, but as human royalty, then dying early and returning to Hodyas (Aka called "Hell" by humans in my series)
Well, the Victorian era spanned from 1837 to 1901, so it'd help to find direct sources from between those years. Try looking up the work of 19th-century Russian portrait painters and photographers and seeing how their subjects are dressed (make sure the pieces were actually painted/shot in Russia, as well). You could also search for vintage Russian fashion illustrations from the 19th century, and/or go to the library for books on this specific topic if you want to be really period-accurate.
Also, where in Siberia are they located? Any particular city in mind? The region's pretty fuckin' huge, and getting a sense of what the climate's like in their area will determine how they dress. And based on the quick glance at Wikipedia I took, Siberia's winters are long and extremely cold, so these two would probably need to dress more warmly for much of the year.
As far as how their outfits look now, what really stands out is that Sova's palette has a big contrast in values and Sofia's has a very small contrast, which might be part of why you aren't satisfied with her design. This is more apparent when we look at them in grayscale.
Tumblr media
I felt the spots on Sofia’s dress were a bit distracting, as the value contrast between them and the rest of the fabric made them “eye traps” of sorts. For my version, I eliminated the spots, used a darker, more saturated color for the dress to make the designs pop, and spread her shoe colors to her straps, eyes, and hair tie for a greater sense of balance. Also, her brooch and the cloth attached to it are less intricate but still stand out against the dress. These are small changes, but they make a big difference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also noticed that her chest straps seem to defy gravity and sit on the body in a way that looks uncomfortable, and it’d help to put more thought into how the brooch attaches to them. Here’s one way to remedy that.
Tumblr media
A stronger impression of anatomy and volume in the drawing helps a lot here.
I also toned down Sova’s colors a tad for a more naturalistic look, and switched the brown and yellow so the owls would pop out from their background. It’d also be useful to know the specific type of flower he has on his bag to add a grounded sense of realism.
Tumblr media
Those are my thoughts for now. Hope this helps!

Hello people of Tumblr today I bring you Tango of the Teks from the @crastle-duo's ghost au variety
I spend to much of my time today on this little sketches/concepts but like I said, Tango-in-red-sparkly-tailcoat did not left my brain. He owning one is totally period inaccurate but i do not care since it's just an AU and who cares. Also Tango in somehow period accurate outfit cuz i do very much care. Enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also here have the actual Ghost!Tango since I'm on it U_U
Tumblr media
Probably he would be more fucked up but I'm not in the mood of drawing gore, so you all need to be satisfied with yellow skined-covered in ash-Disney Hercules Hades's Hair-Tango Tek of the Ghosts. He kind of looks like a bass ass which does not please me, bc in my humble opinion all ghosts in this au should look like they where freshly out of washing machine

In honor of the Claudie Wells cover reveal, I'm putting here the cynical Claudie prediction I put in the discord back when we first saw the name "Claudie Jones."
Around then, AG was coming down on people just for blogging about leaks they had heard of, so this sat in my drafts for a while, but this seems like the right time to let it loose.
What we hope Claudie will look like:
Tumblr media
Addy mold
Dark skin
Textured black hair
Period-accurate clothing
Six books
Generous collection with lots of outfits and small accessories and furniture items
What we fear Claudie will look like:
Tumblr media
Josefina mold
Blonde hair with pin curls
Pale skin
Flapper outfit that makes no sense for a kid
Two books
Only furniture item is a massive Jazz performance space
Barely any outfits or accessories
What Claudie will probably look like:
Tumblr media
Sonali mold
Medium skin
Brown hair with loose curls
About four outfits, including a flapper costume that doesn't figure in more than a throwaway scene in her book but is pushed heavily in ads
Somewhat-accurate clothing but skewed toward pink and aqua and with unaccountably coordinated shoes
A pet, a bed, a wind instrument, and a big-ticket item like a corner store or library
It looks like Claudie's going to be a lot closer to my hopeful prediction than the cynical one, and I'm excited! If the hint of blue plaid on the cover is the Meet outfit, even more so! I'm especially excited for the title, and hopeful that AG might be getting back to its roots of having a rich portrayal of the world around each doll.

[Image ID: a digital drawing of a young Japanese girl and a blue dragon, standing in a grassy field under a starry night sky.
The girl has black hair pulled back in a ponytail and is wearing a blue and gold outfit modeled after traditional Heian period clothing, with white pants, a white sash around her waist, and tan sandals. There are gold swirls on her clothes as well. The girl has a small scar on her nose and over her left eye. She stands proudly with a fist on her hip, her other hand held up as if she is inspecting her nails. She has a smug grin on her face and is looking off to the side, towards the dragon.
Close behind her, the dragon appears to be midstride, one paw lifted off the ground. He is a little larger than a lion, his shoulders almost the same height as the girl's. He has large, bat-like ears and bat wings, which are slightly spread over his back. His forepaws are talon-like, with three clawed fingers and a clawed thumb. His hindpaws resemble those of a lion. His scales are dark blue, while his underbelly, the insides of his ears, and the membranes of his wings are pale blue, speckled with a black star pattern. He has gold feathers on his cheeks, his ankles, and his tail tip, also speckled with black star patterns. His eyes are gold as well. He is smiling slightly, looking toward the camera. /end ID]
OCtober 4! Meet Hero and Sky! They're from another old book of mine (I had a lot of free time as a kid okay). It's a little How to Train Your Dragon, a little Wings of Fire, a little Spirit Animals, and very in need of an update. More info + additional looks at their designs below:
I haven't worked on this book in several years, and it was nice to revisit these characters. I spent a lot of time cobbling together Hero's outfit from different Heian period fits, courtesy of The Costume Museum. The colors probably aren't accurate, but it's a fantasy world anyway, I do what I want. Sky is a chimera of lion, wolf, bat, and owl, with a little Komodo dragon thrown in for scaly flavor. As you can see, I also played around more with using different Procreate brushes to add texture. It was fun!
Here are some looks at the duo without the mood lighting:

And some alternate palettes for Sky I experimented with:

Hoooh boy you're definitely not gonna be prepared for what Nonny and the Schneidermann's are wearing then, because Jesus Christ me and my friend truly went "the only people who would love you are the ones with more or equally atrocious fashion styles" with that one out of the way, let's start tame with Y/N because I forgot a key characteristic of hers :)
-Nothing much to say about Y/N, Beige stop that reveals her midriff and light blue shorts, BIG RED CLOWNSHOES WITH HEELS, also the thing I forgot was that she literally does not have a face and has to manually apply waterproof makeup so that she looks like a normal person everyday. The game starts off with her make up routine actually lmao I think it wasn't much of a problem for her, because most of her face was hidden thanks to her bangs anyway, but she still enjoys doing it
-Here comes our favourite Hackerman meow meow, so like, his outfits that I described before? Still pretty accurate, Mans got Black hoodie, though I think he has grey sweatpants instead of black pants, oh and also he's got BIG PINK BALLERINA SHOES WHOSE STRAPS GO O N T O P OF HIS SWEATPANTS AND END AT HIS LOWER THIGHS O_O I didn't describe them last time, partly because I totally forgot he had them until I saw his traditional character sheet and partly because I didn't see them in the game, since his sprite cuts off right above where the shoe straps end. So yeah, do with that information what you will. Also he had a straight up Lenny face at first, no eyecolor, just ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Also also he wasn't 7 feet 8, he was 9' 2" O_O .
Extra quotes we wrote on his sheet: "giiirl, get back inda BASEMENT" "Are u lost, babeygrill?" "He's got NO lips!" "He's never gonna get a kiss kiss very UGLY!" "No kiss for him"
-J. Schneidermann (because writing his full name would clutter this already long ask oof) so, pink cap with a heart on it uwu. Straight up rainbow dash hair, except short, no face because he anime blushed too hard (he actually has one, unlike Y/N but we just didn't draw it) a long sleeved shirt that's various shades of blue and INTENSE shoulder spike (not horizontally, they go vertically up to his ears) green saggy ass pants that approximately reach his ankles and have GUTSCHI written on it (makes him look like a fucked up hamster ngl) lots of chains on his wrists and pants, ears are pierced, and the most notable detail, he has mismatched shoes that he shares with his cousin, one red high heel and one... black boot or black sneaker I can't tell. He's also smoking a red vape in the pic and has a gold chocker
-B. Schneidermann, black fluffy hair that apparently also covering his face because we didn't draw him one either (rip Schneidermann face enjoyers) mirroring his cousins general outfit, except we can actually see the divide between his legs with the red loose pants he's wearing, rainbow long sleeved shirt, I think he was also supposed to have the ridiculous shoulder spikes but they look more like a high collared cape that's reaaaaaaaally short instead, 1 gold bracelet on each of his wrists and smoking a golden vape too, wears the other part of the mismatched shoe pair. He's also holding a banana and a hotdog (I think it's a hotdog at least) also wears a silver choker
Btw if you're wondering what the hell is up with the Schneidermann shoes, it's inspired by another thing we had to do in German period, be basically got a story from a newspaper that we had to retell in another way, the story we got was "Asian man steals peoples left shoes" like, specifically only the left one, which reminds me that Kim Hojungseo would be shoe thief considering that we drew a shit ton of shoes on his sheet lmao.
Extra writing on Hojungseo's sheet: "I only listen to REAL music!" "Save the fucking turtles b-baka! ùwú" "how can mirrors be real, when our eyes aren't?" "Crying on the inside"
I think I'll probably yassify part of their designs, not too much tho, oughta stay true to their OG vibe after all 😔✊ also this felt like a My Immortal chapter with these lengthy character descriptions, still kinda feel that I don't do em justice, they rlly are the kinda character designs that you simply need to ✨experience✨for yourself to truly understand. Also sorry for clogging up your asks you can tell me when to stop just sayin :,)
-Ren'py anon
Wow.
What an
Experience.
I do need these game files ASAP.
Why are the swedish cousins ESPECIALLY ugly 😭😭😭 a golden vape too??? Bro is living the life. WHY DID YOU GIVE THE WORST AND BEST CHARACTER THE HYPEBEAST AESTHETIC??? HELP
I HONESTLY DONT KNOW WHICH IS WHICH ANYMORE
YOU AND UR FRIENDS GAVE NONE OF THESE CHARACTERS A CHANCE TO BREATHE. YALL REALLY WENT, "Let's give them as much as icks as we can."
The genderfluid aroace urge to accept stoner swedish cousin and hacker nonny for who and whatever the hell they are is strong,
but I have standards I must stick to 💔
The pants on Stoner swedish cousin are questionable to say the least, but hey, at least the got them chains 😎 although his hair is a 🚫off
Hair is a BIG PART of attraction for me so 💀
In another world, he would've looked like that blonde boy from 6teen that was voiced by Chris Mcleans VA
Hacker nonny. Hacker NONNYYYYYYYY MY BOY
At this point, there is only friendship, listening to his funky ass one liners yall wrote, going to his bad private home ballet practices and kicking the back of his knees. Being over 6'8 is an ICKKKKKKKK
I'm 5'5 so, baby this ain't gon work </3
Y/n is awesome. I love how their hair conceals so much of their face, but they just do paint it on anyway. Taking no eyes Y/n to the next level I see 😎
Tbh Y/n and stoner swedish cousin are the only love interests to me now. Y/n should be able to say, "Yeah, humans are fucking FREAKS. I'm the hottest one here tbh." AND GO ON WITH THEIR DAY AS PER USUAL.
Y/n gotta go shoe shopping b4 hand bc WOOOO BOY those clowns shoes ain't it.
Koreaboo bf cousin can go fuck himself bc I hate how he's affiliated with 'Kim hojeongso' or whatever the fuck his name was.
And its okay renpy anon! Send in whenever you'd like! Even though it takes a little while to read through everything and try to include most of everything, I dont mind it all that much!
Thank you for being even comfortable enough to talk about your personal creation with me like this! I enjoy everything you have brought to the table and I'm excited if you have more. Thanks so much Renpy nonnie <33 ilysm
