Archie Andrews?
Oh Archie, always such a good boy, except for that time he was a baby fascist. But he learned and returned to his good boy status. He is dumb, but I love him anyway.
OTP: Honestly? Josie.  Idk, man, something about them just charms the pants off of me.  To a certain extent they feel like they belong on a different show, like they don't quite fit in whatever Riverdale's genre is, but I kind of like that?  Maybe it's the way Josie finally let some walls down around someone and the lack of complicated baggage they have together? Idk, I just want them to have separate successful music careers where occasionally they'll do a special together and people will go crazy.  They're just too cute.
BrOTP: Oh, Jughead, hands down.  Somehow this adorable golden retriever befriended the world's surliest cat, and I just love it.  Jughead is here to make sure Archie doesn't do anything too stupid (although reckless is still on the table), and Archie is here to drag Jughead out of his self-imposed solitude.  I do like that Jughead never talks down to Archie though, although he does drop some harsh truths, but I like that they're comfortable with that.  Betty's friendship with Archie falls under a similar category, and I like it only a little bit less. I will say, I think my favorite moment between them was Archie insisting that he can kill Hiram and Jughead softly saying "I know you can." Jughead knows his friends' darkness and does not judge, and I think that's beautiful. But I have to give a special shout out to Archie's friendship with Mad Dog, which I'm eager to see more of.
OT3: Veronica/Archie/Reggie.  I just want Veronica and her two capos.  They can all do shady shit together; it'll be great.  The homoerotic moments between Archie and Reggie have been great, so I want to see more of that, and I just love #MobLife and want to see more of it.  If we're dragging Archie into Crime Land, let's drag him here.
NoTP: Betty, easily.  Archie said that he never felt whatever it was he was supposed to feel for Betty, and that always stuck with me.  He felt the pressure to have the classic boy-next-door/girl-next-door romance, and he didn't want it; he never wanted it.  And moving past Archie is part of Betty's growth as a character. I just can't get behind this ship at this point. And my devotion to bughead means I never will.
Special shout out to my favorite crack ship: Archie/Sweet Pea.  I'm still mad they didn't get to go on a vengeance quest together after Jughead almost died.  It'd be like a fun road trip with a switchblade and baseball bats.

11 Questions Tag Game
I was tagged by @tobythewise. Thank ya, babe!
Post the rules
Answer the questions given
Make 11 questions of your own
Tag 11 people (or less lol)
1. Dream job?
My “practical” (a.k.a. “boring”) dream job is the one I’m going for right now which is a clinical psychologist. I want to help people with my profession because I don’t have the luxury or talent of helping people in other ways (i.e. art, money, etc.).
But if I could be anything in the whole wide world, I’d be either an author or a screenwriter. I love, love, love creating stories, and I’d love to see them on a screen, as well. The problem is, I don’t have the willpower or the talent to follow through with this dream. Not to mention, I’m so paranoid about financial security, that I’m too big of a wimp to go for it. Oh, well!
2. French Mistake or Changing Channels?
I’m gonna cheat and say: both.
The one I find myself going back and watching more often than the other one is “Changing Channels.” It’s just sort of a comfort episode for me in that it’s funny and it has so many of my favorite characters in it.
However, if I made a “Favorite SPN Episodes” list (which I have), “The French Mistake” would rank higher than “Changing Channels” because it’s just so good.
So, I guess it depends on how you look at it. I guess as an overall answer based on my opinion of the quality of the episodes, I’d probably pick “The French Mistake.”
3. What song has been stuck in your head lately?
I don’t really listen to music all that much anymore. At least not frequently enough to have songs stuck in my head. So, I’ll tell you the song I most recently played on repeat.
It is: “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur.
The reason I’ve had it on repeat is because @markiplier did a cover of it (x), and it’s beautiful. He’s been working on preforming songs for his audience for so long, and I’m so proud of him. He killed this song (in a good way), and it made me so relaxed and happy. Go Mark!
4. Who is your favorite female Supernatural character?
Rowena. Rowena all the way. Don’t get me wrong, Jody is a close runner-up. Donna is also.
But nothing can beat that Scottish fire, baby. Not for this chick.
5. What’s your favorite food?
I don’t have one? That’s the simple answer, I guess. I love shrimp a whole fuckin’ lot, though, so if I had to pick one food, it’d be shrimp.
And also curly fries. And also BBQ chips. And also--
6. Favorite season?
Fall. I mean, right? Fall is the best. Spoopy times (yes, I say spoopy, come at me), sweaters, candles, colored leaves, good food, good shows. Fall is just the best.
Besides school.
7. Take out or home-cooked meals?
Okay, so I prefer to eat home-cooked meals, but I actually eat take-out more often. In fact, I’m about to order take-out right now. It’s just more convenient, and I hate myself for it, but I’m a broke college kid, so what can you do?
8. How has the internet/fandom changed you?
So many ways. I’ve made new friends, I’ve found myself, I’ve found family through certain shows, I’ve learned my values and what I’m willing to fight for, I’ve learned to be helpful in anyway I can to anyone I can be helpful to, I’ve found people that I can really look up to and aspire to, I’ve found people who are real and who don’t judge based on differences, I’ve found out about my own unique sense of humor, I’ve learned to take criticism properly, I’ve learned how to take care of myself, I’ve learned about and talked to the most beautiful people and actors and fans, I’ve become the happiest I could ever be because of fandom. I’ve found a place where I truly belong. Fandom has made me me.
9. Favorite ships?
Where do I begin? You’ve cursed yourself with this one, @tobythewise, because this is gonna be a LONG list! (I’m secretly thanking you for giving me a reason to gush :) I’m gonna keep it to my main one for each show because otherwise we’d be here all day.
Destiel. 100%. They are my #1 OTP. I guess that statement is kind of redundant. Honestly, I don’t know of any other ship that is this heartbreakingly beautiful. They mean so much to me, and I’m so happy I get to witness their journey together.
Spuffy. Probably my #2 ship, if I had to put them in order. Again, an absolutely beautiful relationship. It’s real, it’s raw, it’s rich. It’s just a lovely story of two truly good people coming together and loving each other despite the flaws.
Pleo. Is that the ship name for Piper and Leo from Charmed? Well, anyway, they’re my #3 and a perfect example of how love can literally transcend anything. This is probably my first ship ever... wow.
Delena. Gotta get my TVD in there, comin’ in at #4. I don’t think any other ship has made me cry as much as this one. Not to mention, this ship actually being endgame was completely unexpected to me. Which made it way better to watch. They’re just... omg, beautiful.
IchiRuki. This is actually a new ship, which is why it’s kind of a surprise that it’s #5, but hey! They were just done so fucking wrong, and they should definitely be together. I mean, they save each other always, they worry about each other always, so why aren’t they together for “Forever and Always” by Taylor Swift??
Bellarke. My #6. I dunno what to say about this ship other than: it’s gonna happen. You know it, I know it, there’s no use denying it. They belong together. That’s all there is to it.
Clois. For my #7, I’m going with a ship that isn’t really a ship because it was predetermined that these two would end up together before I even started the show of Smallville. Although, there’s people who don’t ship them?? I dunno, the Clark and Lois that are specifically from Smallville are one of my favorites.
Bughead. They’re just cute. I know a lot of people don’t like them, but they’re #8 on my list, so fight me. You can’t take away my adorable, little ship.
Septiplier. Just because I want a YouTube ship on here, I’m going with Mark and Jack for my #9. Because... reasons.
Jyde. That is the best ship name I could come up with for my #10, which is Jackie and Hyde from That ‘70s Show. They were meant for each other, and the writers screwed them bad in the last season. I still haven’t forgiven them.
K/R. Don’t know what K/R is? My #11? Well, I’ll tell you. Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable. Fuck off if you don’t ship them. They are my light, they are my soul, they are my reason for living. They are... my Naco from Bueno Nacho. Beautiful.
10. Do you have a pet?
I do, I actually have three little assholes. (I’m mostly kidding).
A cat named Kit (after Kit from Charmed, no idea what breed he is, he’s just white and grey), a Shiba Inu named Foxy (because she looks like a fox... unoriginal, I know, but she was prenamed when I got her, so I embrace it), and a Dachshund named Sissy (because she’s a wimp... just kidding, she’s my roommate’s dog, no idea why she’s named that).
11. Favorite holiday?
HALLOWEEN, BITCH. Fuck literally every other holiday. I will take Jack Nicholson and Ghostface any day over candy hearts and Christmas music.
My Questions:
1. Top 5 fictional characters of ALL TIME?
2. If you could have literally any animal as a pet, what would you choose?
3. Given the opportunity, what musical artist would you want to sing/dance on stage with?
4. What is the most ridiculous holiday you can think of (whether already in existence or not)?
5. What do you feel is the most overrated piece of technology?
6. What are a few features your dream house would have?
7. When you think of yourself, what color do you assosiate with yourself?
8. Llamas or alpacas?
9. Top Hat or Newsboy Cap?
10. Mountains or forests?
11. How easily do you get scared (i.e., would anything relatively creepy scare you, would you have to watch some pretty heavy stuff to get nightmares, or something in between)?
I’m gonna tag @thesuperwhovian, @existentially-ruined, @spikesjojo, @silverspike, and @ackleholics because I’m really interested in your answers!

Regarding the Finale and the upcoming Season Two
So, I feel like the finale’s purposeful hinting that Jughead’s possible joining of the Southside Serpents might create tension between him and Betty — given that she obviously gives him a concerned look when he puts on the oh, la la~ jacket, which understandably dampens his spirits some, more on that later — is a sort of red-herring.
The same way the pilot queer-baited viewers, the finale is V→A→B→J-love-square-baiting the audience and stirring up drama just to keep us guessing until Season Two premiere.
The finale established Varchie and Bughead as canonical ships, with the former going from semi-dating to actual dating, and the latter being a solid supercarrier (is it? or is it still a dreadnought?). And while sure, both vessels can hit turbulent waters and, hey, Riverdale is an adaptation of Archie comics, so V/A/B tension is expected (although I have an inkling the A/B part of it might be just from Archie’s side) — we have been hit over the head so many times with the Jughead/Betty and Archie/Veronica soulmate parallels that I honestly think that the show-runners intend those two ships to be eventual endgame. Please, please let Bughead be endgame. #CrossingFingers #HopingNoOneJinxedIt.
But back to my original point; it being that I have a few theories regarding the Southside Serpents storyline. One of which is that Jughead will eventually accept being a Serpent — hopefully with Betty’s support, but maybe without — in order to uncover the truth about the drug-ring in Riverdale and clear the Serpents of the allegations. He and Betty are too much of Intrepid Reporters to let that one go. Plus, Betty’s speech to her mother and then later to the town hinted she will take the truth by its dirty underpants and drag it into the light.
Maybe he won’t even join them in any official capacity, and his putting on the jacket was just the show-runners teasing the audience, but it was a very clear symbolic gesture that his allegiance is now with the Serpents and the Southside, and he will take their side over that of the people of the…err, I guess the Northside…? (Southside is still part of Riverdale, right? Does the better off side of town have a name?)
Somehow I feel like Betty will join him on the whole support the Southside…side. *face-palms* being real eloquent here. But as much as I would want a serpent!Bughead with Betty going all ‘Full Dark, No Stars’ on everyone’s asses, I am fairly sure Jughead will ultimately return to Riverdale High after an indeterminate amount of time at Southside High. As much as the Southside accepts him, Betty was right in saying he is Riverdale and he will return to where he is needed soon enough.
Plus, from a meta point of view, it is clear the entire core four is having some sort of Coming of Age storyline with Betty becoming a more confident person who stands up for what she believes in, Jughead coming to terms with his insecurities and finding both a place and the people he belongs with, Archie’s whole find-yourself arc, and Veronica unlocking a well-rounded-person achievement and becoming better, just as she promised to herself to do. So, Jughead’s season two storyline will obviously bring him back to Riverdale High.
All in all, the show-runners are trying for Romeo&Julet, Westside Story vibe for Bughead in the finale, but ultimately I think it is Varchie that will play out the star-crossed lovers theme in Riverdale, given the blatant allusions to the Hiram Lodge-Fred Andrews antagonism, while Bughead will have a more Neutral Good take on the Bonnie&Clyde-esque Battle Couple of Justice and Truth.
If it wasn’t blatantly obvious already, I could probably gush about Bughead moments in Sweet Hereafter for another 3k words, but I shouldn’t. I really shouldn’t. Though I will say this: hand-holding while running through the forest is a pretty underestimated romantic gesture. And now, I’ll try to reign in the Yes, that is my OTP! vibes.
Tangential observation, but I think the reason why Jughead was #WhenHeSmiles over the jacket was because it was concrete proof, along with the whole biker-gang spreading out at his doorstep, that what FP told him — “Serpents take care of their own” — wasn’t just him wishing on a star and stubbornly holding out on the law, but actually adhering to a code. So, Jughead got validation that his father wasn’t just being a stubborn moron and screwing himself over by not taking the deal, but was “sticking by his own”.
Side-bar: Who else teared up a bit when FP told Jughead in a roundabout way that he was proud of him; please, raise a hand?
Also, I think that Archie and Cheryl might not have a romance arc, as much as a substitute-sibling arc where a lot of Cheryl’s unresolved feelings regarding Jason will be projected onto Archie, who actually is a legit good person and probably is the best choice to be their recipient. I just really want those two to bond, okay?
In the same line of thought: Poor Cheryl. She needs a hug and some decent friends because her face in that scene where she was talking to Jughead and Veronica was about to ask her if she was okay, but was interrupted by Archie (or was it Kevin?) who ran there to tell them about Betty’s locker, well, it was just heartbreaking. Seriously #GiveCherylAHug2k17.
I’m fairly sure that Hiram is behind Fred’s shooting. That’s the reason why Hermione was so keen on buying him out; she was trying to protect her friend-slash-ex-lover from her husband, who, need I remind you, had already used violent underhanded tactics against Fred before.
Also, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if Hiram is involved in the drug trafficking and Clifford landing him in jail was his attempt at cutting Hiram out of it. But it might be just me. I tend to assume Hiram has his fingers in all the pies. All of them.
P.S. Can we go back to Jason, pls? In one of the first episodes Archie said Seventeen-years-old and how he will be remembered?, and when you look at Jason in hindsight, that line can’t help but break my heart.
Although I tend to think of Jason as a Base Breaking Character given how much of his characteristics are expositioned via other people’s subjective opinions of him, so he is very much subjected to Alternative Character Interpretation, he turned out to be a pretty solid kid. I mean, I used to think Cheryl was just waxing poetic about her bro-bro, viewing him through rose-coloured glasses and all that, a point that seemed to have been confirmed in episode 3 with the score-book, but…maybe he wasn’t a wolf in sheep’s clothing like I assumed.
The kid got his girlfriend pregnant, wanted to do the right thing by her, loved her enough to defy his family (Fridge Logic moment, but if Jason and Polly’s babies are ultra-super-Blossom, something Mama Blossom was totes okay with, then why didn’t the Blossoms want him to date Polly? I get why Coopers didn’t want that. Hal is anti-incest and Alice is very anti-Blossom, but C&P are very cool-with-casual-incest parents, so Jason dating Polly wouldn’t have been that horrible a thought for them to swallow.), and started being a drug mule in order to get the funds for them to run away. Which, I guess, was how he figured out Clifford’s involvement with the drug trafficking. Maybe he wanted to do something about that, too; he did have drugs stashed in his getaway car. Jason wasn’t the most upstanding citizen, but he tried to do good and was killed for it. …just…poor kid.
P.P.S. Also, slight confusion over here at my end. Let me get this straight. Jason got drugs A from the Serpents to move them somewhere. Since FP claims they don’t deal with hard stuff, drugs A might be marijuana or something. Somehow Jason found out that Blossoms traffic drugs B, which might be cocaine or something equally hardcore. The same drugs he had stashed in his getaway car. But since the show insists on calling all drugs just ‘the drugs’ and using virtually identical packages in their footage, I am still not sure if drugs A≠drugs B. Give me evidence, I beg you.
Rant over? Rant over.

11 Questions Game
Holy Hannah! I spent my holiday weekend at the symphony (Final Fantasy: Distant Lands - SO GOOD!), playing on the lake for the first boat trip of the season, and paintballing my little heart out and generally hanging out with my irlbgf - and yet while I was away, I was tagged by some of my favourite, absolutely amazing wonderful lovely fellow Buggies in the fun
I promise I wasn’t ignoring you! I love you all and I would like to answer all five of you - so that's 55 questions instead of just 11. That means that I DEFINITELY have to put it under a cut because it will eat up your dashboard and maybe some of you aren't all that interested in my answers. lol.
BUT if you're interested at all in my answers and who I am, I hope you'll click. :)
From the awesome and ever talented and wonderful @believe-that-you-can-my-friend  💙💛
1. What’s your favourite piece of clothing you own?
I have a pair of black velour pajama pants. It is my most favourite things in the world. They feel like velvet.
2. What fictional place would you most like to go?
The Starship Enterprise. The Future and the Federation seems like a pretty groovy society to live in.
3. What’s the best way to start the day?
With overnight updates to all your favourite Bughead fics that you MUST read and review before getting into the shower.
4. What TV show or movie do you refuse to watch?
I'm not into Fifty Shades of Gray. I mean - I have no problem with BDSM - I simply have a problem with bad writing.
5. What are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years?
My kids are growing up! Within the next ten years all three of my kids will be gone/leaving for college. I'll be an empty nester with my super dreamy hubby.
6. What city would you most like to live in?
I love where I live - Calgary is the best - but other than just saying "here" - I guess I'd choose London.
7. What movie title best describes your life?
It's a Wonderful Life.
8. What irrational fear do you have?
Clowns. I hate them. My husband tells me that it's an irrational fear all the time - but it doesn't FEEL irrational.
9. In your group of friends, what role do you play?
I'm generally the centre of attention. In real life, I want people to be comfortable and as engaged as I am - so I talk a lot and ask lots of questions so that they'll feel more comfortable sharing as well. People like me - oftentimes more than I like them. In fandom life I'm kinda like that too - but I like to play the roll of the cheerleader and support and over excited and passionate fangirl. In general, I like being /nice/ and I get something out of people loving me as much as I adore them.
10. What are you most insecure about?
Um... the same physical insecurities that most people have. I guess that I'll be so over-the-top that people will think I'm fake or that I'm silly.
11. What are you most likely to become famous for?
I'm technically writing a novel... that will probably never be published. But I guess that's the only ever way I'd be famous.
From the freaking fabulous @gellbellshead 💙💛
1. What is your favourite food?
Potatoes. Whether it's mashed, soup, fries (poutine!), or whatever. I love potatoes of all sorts. YUM.
2. What is your favourite movie genre and your favourite movie from that genre?
Um. I like lots of different kinds of films but I guess I like Sci Fi the most. My favourite Sci Fi is probably Serenity. But I actually have a list of five favourite ALL TIME movies of various genres: Stardust, Schindler's List, Serenity, EuroTrip, and French Kiss.
3. Favourite Disney movie.
Meet the Robinsons or Brave.
4. Do you prefer to read fluff or angst?
I like there to be a HEA - so if there has to be angst - as long as I get a happy ending I'm cool. I like to call that Flangst. I really like plot driven fics - but I also love fluffy one-shots... I'm fairly easy. Just don't split up my OTP please.
5. Any siblings?
I'm the youngest of five - my brother is the oldest, and then three sisters, then me.
6. Your favourite fictional character?
Elizabeth Bennet
7. Your favourite person in real life?
My sweetheart, Jay. He's my person.

9. What it the biggest risk you have ever taken?

10. What is your biggest pet peeve?

Loud and fun. Kinda silly.
From the ever lovely, @wordsonpages1  💙💛

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Random Passage by Bernice Morgan. The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman

As a family, we have a motto "Salmons don't do Shortcuts" - but personally I have two additional mantras. I have a scripture that is very important to me Mark 5:36 "Be not afraid, only believe." and a song with lyrics that I call my mantra: The song is called Chances by Kirby Heyborne and the line in particular is, "I am hope. I believe. I am alive. I am every thing. I have come to take these chances. I wonder when things will go my way. I was born to live my life and no one tells me who I am."
4. The number one thing that draws you to a person?
I'm shallow. Smile - shoulders - smell.
5. Who is your idol or inspiration?
Queen Elizabeth II Hannah Senesh My grandpa.
6. Places you would like to travel to?
All over Europe.
7. A perfect day would entail?
Sleeping late. Hours reading in the bathtub with no interruptions.
8. Dream job?
Can they pay me to read Bughead fanfiction all day?
9. Ultimate life goal?
To retire and travel with my sweetie and raising well adjusted and cool kids.
10. What do you like/ love most about yourself?
I love that I'm fun and passionate about stuff.
11. Sunrise or Sunset?
Sunset for sure. Mornings suck.
From my girl @jugandbettsdetectiveagency - 💙💛
1. Describe your aesthetic?
Jughead Jones shaking the soap? (does that count?)
2. Favourite place you’ve ever visited?
Visited is an interesting word. My favourite PLACE is the riverbottom at the bottom of the Coulee in Lethbridge. It's home. I love it.
3. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Nanaimo Bars.
4. Biggest regret?
After my BA I should have gone to Grad school. Or I should have become a Dental Hygenist or something - but I got a History Degree because I love History. I don't work in that field at all so even though I spent $50,000 to become an official Historian... I could have become something else, that would have probably made me a lot happier than what I'm doing and remained an amateur Historian.
5. You’ve been put in the middle of a fantasy battle, what is your weapon of choice?
Double edged lightsaber.
6. Favourite outfit?
Not counting my favourite pajama pants... I have this super cute red and gold paisley handkerchief shirt I bought in Mexico. I love it.
7. Have you ever been in love?
Twice. I was lucky enough to find my sweetheart when I was 19 years old. The love I felt for the bloke before Jay was minuscule in comparison to what I feel for my husband - but it was still love.
8. Favourite thing, fan fiction or not, you’ve ever read?
I can’t answer that. I read too many delicious things.
9. Main thing you look for in a person?
Sardonic sense of humour.
10. What is your earliest memory?
I remember my fourth birthday party really clearly.
11. You’re stranded on a desert island, what one item (that isn’t a boat) would you want with you?
Can I have two? A hammock and a book?
And lastly - from the wonderful @peacelovebughead   💙💛
1. What’s your go-to pump up song?
Well lately it’s been Believer by Imagine Dragons - but normally it’d be something from Two Door Cinema Club or like Take on Me by A-Ha or something. lol.
2. If you could travel absolutely anywhere, where would you go?
Auschwitz.
3. What Hogwarts house do you belong to?
Hufflepuff
4. Thunder or Lightning?
Lightning
5. When do you feel most confident?
When I’m doing something I’m good at and people around me KNOW I’m good at it.
6. What is one of your favourite memories?
I don’t know if I have ‘favourite’ memories. Yesterday at the lake with my husband and my kids (who are teenagers and fight a lot!) - I got to hear them happily laughing and joking and having a wonderful time. That’s today’s favourite memory.
7. Who is a fictional character that you relate to? Why?
Dude. Kevin Keller is a gay, male version of me. And my brother and husband are cops so I relate to that part of him too. lol.
8. If you could wake up famous tomorrow, would you do it?
If I could keep my happy family and my morals - then sure.
9. What is one of your proudest accomplishments?
How about that $50,000 piece of paper I have hanging on my office wall that announces to the world that I’m officially allowed to have an opinion on British History along with the roots and causes of Totalitarianism. Getting that was pretty great.
10. If you were to live in a fictional world, which world would you choose?
Asked earlier - but I’d say the Star Trek universe would be the place to be.
11. If you were to pick a colour palette to describe you, what colours would you choose?
Jewel tones.

Out From Under Her Thumb
Betty, Archie and Jughead  Hogwarts AU Drabble
Part One
Here
Part Three
Elizabeth Cooper loved her family. She loved her mother and her sister, she loved her father and her best friend, the boy next door, Archie Andrews. She opened her heart easily and cared very deeply for people in general, she even felt herself on the fast track to becoming very good friends with Jughead Jones. They met up with Archie in a compartment on the train, they laughed, Jughead ate and was funny and clever. Mostly she found herself distracted by how exciting it would be to hang out with Archie without her mother’s interference. The eleven year old had a crush on him for ages, ever since they met.
As she grew up, she had this fantasy that she and Archie would go to Hogwarts together, that she would be sorted into Ravenclaw and that Archie would be her brave Gryffindor. Archie would play quidditch and Betty would get good grades and then one day, when school was over, or maybe even before, they could be a couple? Archie was a little on the scrawny side so she imagined that quidditch might not happen and that was fine with her. The rest of it felt completely plausible.
She stood between the two boys, fidgeting excitedly with the sleeves of her cloak. “Archie, which house do you think Jughead will be sorted into?” she asked him, smiling once at the beanie wearing boy. They were standing in a crowd of first years in front of the long tables belonging to each of the houses in the great hall. In the crowd she spotted a tall boy with dark hair, Reginald Mantle. She also spotted the Blossom twins with their cherry red hair.
Archie looked over at Jughead and narrowed his eyes, humming thoughtfully, “I think he’d be happiest in Hufflepuff since it’s right next to the kitchen.”
Jughead nodded, “that sounds like a great place to be,” he said.
Betty narrowed her eyes and studied him, “I suppose I could picture you there,” she said, “you seem nice...sarcastic but nice.” For whatever reason it didn’t feel like a good fit though. “I’m guessing Ravenclaw,” she said decidedly with a nod.
“Isn’t Ravenclaw one of the furthest common rooms from the kitchen?” asked Jughead skeptically.
“Well, yes but I don’t know...you seem too cerebral to be a Hufflepuff, besides, I think it would be fun if we were in the same house.”
Archie raised an eyebrow, “wait, are you trying to say Hufflepuffs are dumb? Also, what about me? Wouldn’t it be fun if I were in your guys’s house?”
“No, no!” Betty exclaimed, throwing her hands up, “not at all, hufflepuffs just have a lot of heart is all I mean and I just really don’t expect you to end up in Ravenclaw.”
“But Betty,” said Archie, “you have more heart than anyone.”
“Archie, just because you’re cerebral doesn’t mean you can’t be kind,” she said.
“We sure are using the word cerebral a lot,” said Jughead dryly.
“Attention students!” said the bald headed wizard who stood in front of the teachers table. “For those who don’t know, I’m you headmaster, professor Weatherbee. I once stood there like you are today, excited to embark on a brand new adventure. Before we begin, there are a few rules I’d like to impress upon you this year. The first being that the forbidden forest is as forbidden as it sounds, second, starting this year, the third floor is out of bounds as it is in dire need of maintenance. Finally, in light of the recent escape of Arabella Spark from Azkaban, trips to Hogsmeade will be suspended for the year or until she is taken back into custody.”
There was a murmur of disappointment that none of the first years really cared about missing out on Hogsmeade since they weren’t allowed to go. “Who’s Arabella Spark?” asked Jughead, whispering into Betty’s ear.
“A dark witch, she killed thirty people a few years back, I’ll tell you more about her later,” she whispered back before turning her attention back to headmaster Weatherbee.
“With that out of the way,” the headmaster continued, “we will commence the sorting ceremony.” He gestured to a stool that materialized next to him, “we will call up our new students one by one, we will place the sorting hat on your heads and you will be sorted into your houses.”
“Archie Andrews,” said an old looking witch holding a scroll. Betty’s heart skipped a beat and she grabbed his arm with a smile, “good luck Archie,” she whispered to him.
“Yeah,” said Jughead, “here’s to hoping we don’t all get lice.”
The two of them watched as their best friend smiled, rolled his eyes and walked up to the stool where Weatherbee was now holding an old, weathered conical hat. Archie sat on the stool and Weatherbee placed the hat on his head. “Archie Andrews...,” crooned the hat, who’s folds had formed into a mouth. There was a long pause and Betty waited for him to be placed in Gryffindor.
“Ah yes,” said the hat, “HUFFLEPUFF!”
Betty blinked, surprised, the students in Hufflepuff cheered in excitement and Betty smiled. Hufflepuff totally suited Archie, he was hard working and kind and very loyal. Just like that her little internal fantasy adapted to fit that and she found herself loving him even more.
“Hufflepuff is a good house,” she said with a smile to Jughead.
“Lucky guy,” he said, “maybe we’ll all be hufflepuffs.”
She didn’t say anything to that, she just watched Archie head over to the Hufflepuff table, knowing that her mother wouldn’t be keen on him being a Hufflepuff. She sighed, she loved her family but they were a bit much.
“I don’t think you’ll be a ravenclaw,” said Jughead suddenly.
She looked at him with a raised brow as Jason Blossom’s name was called. “What do you mean? How would you know?” She had to be a Ravenclaw, it’s what would have made her mother happy.
He shrugged, “I just think there’s more to you than your family,” he said.
The hat declared Jason Blossom to be a slytherin which didn’t surprise Betty. The Blossoms were traditionally Slytherins. “If I’m not a Ravenclaw, which house do I belong in then?” she wondered and Chuck Clayton was called to the front and yet another slytherin was declared.
Jughead grinned slyly, “I have a theory but I’ll be keeping that to myself.”
“Will you tell me if I’m right after the fact?” she asked, Cherly Blossom was also declared a slytherin.
He shrugged, “who knows, offer me enough food and I might tell you.”
“Jughead Jones,” called the woman with the scroll.
“Good luck,” she said to him as he walked up, sat on the stool and had the hat placed on his head.
The hat was silent for a minute before shouting “RAVENCLAW!”
Betty clapped a little alongside the Ravenclaw house, shooting a look at Jughead, mouthing I told you so. He smiled and rolled his eyes at her.
“Betty Cooper,” said the woman with the scroll. Again, she felt her heart stop in her chest. She looked over at Archie who watched her expectantly before realizing she was taking too long to step forward. She blinked, shook her head and walked over to the stool.
She adjusted her skirt beneath her as she sat down, looking out at the sea of faces, finding her sister’s at the Ravenclaw table before the hat was placed on her head.
“Oh dear,” rang the voice of the hat in her head, “this may take some deliberation...you’re ambitious, yes, a pureblood...” he trailed off. Betty frowned, was the hat suggesting she was a slytherin? “You have darkness in your soul, deffinitely. There is a great darkness in you Betty Cooper, a dangerous combination for a witch of your talents.”  She was glad that the rest of the students couldn’t hear what the hat was saying about her because she was being painted to be some sort of dangerous person. The hat paused for a long time and she chewed on her lip.
“No,” said the hat at last, “No I don’t think Slytherin...perhaps but likely not...Now Hufflepuff...you’re kind and unwaveringly loyal, that might work...” There was another long pause and her spirits felt brighter, to be in the same house as Archie would have been wonderful. Maybe this was the house Jughead meant...”No,” said the hat, “far too willing to break the rules when necessary.”
She frowned, that had to settle it then, she was a Ravenclaw, case closed. “You’re very bright, sharp wit...and yet, you do not learn solely for the sake of learning.” She frowned at that, he continued, “you aren’t detached enough for it, you’re different from your mother and father and sister. Difference is a good thing.”
That left one house, at four minutes and forty five seconds in, the hat called out, “Better be, GRYFFINDOR!” The gryffindor table errupted in cheers and she sat there dumbfounded. How? How could this have happened? The hat was lifted from her head as she went to join the boisterous table of strangers. She sat down and immediately searched for Jughead’s face over at the Ravenclaw table as Dilton Doiley was sorted there. He looked back at her but she couldn’t read his expression.
She slouched in her seat when Kevin Keller, Son of the famous Auror went up to be sorted. “Gryffindor!” declared the hat almost immediately and Betty found herself smiling and cheering along with her housemates. Not as loudly but just as earnestly. Kevin sat next to her, “so,” he said, “you have a nice long chat with the sorting hat up there miss almost a hatstall?”
She laughed, “yeah,” she said, “something like that.”
A.N.: It took a lot of deliberating but I settled on these houses. Sorting is weird and messy and I totally get if you don’t agree but that;s where I sit on it. For the record, I think Betty makes just as much sense as a slytherin but I think thematically where I’m going with this she’s better as a lion. This was very Archie x Betty heavy for Betty’s part with more of an implied Bughead. These snippets all exist on their own so like, if that’s your OTP this is a good segment for you! As for my endgame...at this point they’re like, eleven so no romance yet but I do see it being Bughead as a super slow burn. That kind of gives things away but I want to be transparent. I think I’ll continue chipping away at this AU.

Riverdale - 1x13 - Episode Review
Shown on The CW in the US, available on Netflix in the UK.
WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS AND SPECULATIONS.
All views & opinions are my own.
Synopsis: The town’s residents try to move on from recent events and reflect on how the place they inhabit is changing, as they prepare for its 75th Jubilee.
It’s time for a Jubilee as the town celebrates a whopping 75 years of Riverdale, at the worst time ever. The Blossom empire has crumbled and the town’s on the verge of a violent uprising. Mayor McCoy and Sheriff Keller commend Archie and Betty for saving Riverdale by catching a killer. Though as Betty points out, several times this episode, all is not well. If anything, the trouble’s only beginning. Life doesn’t get any better for Jughead as he’s forced to switch schools. Now that FP’s facing a hefty prison sentence, he’ll also have to go into foster care. The only people Jug can count on are his friends as they’ve got his back. Always.
After Clifford’s funeral, Penelope laments about the Blossom family being “cursed” and this causes Cheryl to consider her fate. She insists that “I’ve shed my tears for the Blossom men” and yet I was right to be worried about my favourite redhead. Her increasingly strange behaviour (giving away her possessions = suicide alert) warrants the concern of Veronica but almost too late. The core four rush to Sweetwater River, just in time to catch Cheryl desperately trying to break the icy waters in order to drown herself. It gets quite bloody; with time not on their side Archie punches the ice to save a sinking Cheryl just as she sees a frightening vision of Jason. Imagine that KJ Apa actually broke his hand performing that stunt. I had to catch my breath. HAIL ARCHIE ANDREWS, RIVERDALE’S DESIGNATED HERO. Cheryl later decides that fire, not water is the only way to ‘purify’ the family from their sins. So, she ends up burning down Thornhill. I think that house is cursed alright and Madelaine Petsch wasn’t kidding when she said the last time we’d see Cheryl in the season would be epic! Did I mention my newfound appreciation for her now that I know her family’s South African as well?!
I loved Betty’s speech at the Jubilee. She’s right, “Riverdale’s at a crossroads. Riverdale must do better”. It’s not just Riverdale though Betty, that kind of goes for the real world too. The song was nice but I was more intrigued by Archie’s indecisiveness about Betty and Veronica. I know a lot of fans would like Bughead to be endgame. However, I’m liking the idea of Veronica and Jughead’s friendship or something more, developing. Needless to say, that love square ain’t closed; it’s adjusting. I liked Veronica’s dress and Josie was rocking those braids. Hopefully, we’ll get more of her next season.
Bughead finally said those three magical words and I literally screamed for joy! I’ve never had an OTP (one true pairing) before but they’re worthy of consideration. I’m careful about settling on any ships too soon. Varchie get steamy as well and she tells him “we’ve had this date from the very beginning Archie-kins”. It was a little cringe but something you’d totally expect her to say and…oh well, they’re still cute. The morning after and there’s a shot of Archie smiling in front of the bathroom mirror at Pops. I knew it was too good to be true. When Fred was shot, it was so sad. The only decent parent in Riverdale! Poor Archie! I’m excited about his character arc next season; looks like he might be going darker in the quest for revenge.
On a happier note, FP and Jug’s relationship was restored before he went inside. He’s also got the full support of the Southside Serpents courtesy of Daddy (he-he). Jug seemed a little too eager to put on that Serpent jacket. All he wants is a family, to find somewhere where he belongs though it looks like he’ll settle for anything to get a sense of that. Alice’s secret son will hopefully make an appearance next season. The acting during the revelation scene was so good. I love that Alice can be overbearing at times but then so emotional and raw here. Why the women of Riverdale put up with such awful men I’ll never know. Hermione was acting like Christmas had come early getting prepared for Hiram’s arrival. I’m betting that the Lodges hired someone to shoot Fred to get him out of the business.10/10 for this episode.
Overall, I have really enjoyed Riverdale’s first season. It definitely caught me by surprise as I thought it was like any other teen drama but I was mistaken. One strength of this show is its parent-child relationships. From trust and intimacy to frazzled and strained, it makes for interesting viewing. The main theme of this show is the end of innocence and JB’s murder was a catalyst for that. I’m ready to see how next series unfolds. The only thing I worry about is how the producers and writers will handle things. Riverdale reminds me of Empire in that, during its first season it had so much going on so quickly. It seemed to run out of steam in the second season, especially with a bigger episode order. I reckon Riverdale should stick to max 13-16 episodes. Season 1 was about establishing characters and the world they’re in. Season 2 is testing the limits of that. I know that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has said that the genre is going to have an impact. Now whether that means that a zombie apocalypse is imminent or not, we’ll have to see. I’d like to see more focus on minor characters like Kevin, Josie, Polly and Val next series.
I’m going to keep updated on the show as much as possible and post about it as much as I can. I’ll leave you with this video I found that explores the relationship between FP and Veronica. Of all the pairings on this show, it is the cherry on the cake.
 Thanks for reading,
Until next time,
 Ella

M, AD, AF, AK!
Nice choices, I’m going to convert them into number, and then let’s go!
13/M. Has a ship ever broken your heart?
Constantly.  There’s a roughly 50% chance that, in a show where at least one person dies, one or both members of my ship will die.  It just...it just KEEPS HAPPENING, my god.  But a special shout out to Chiaki/Makoto from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time for ripping my heart out and stomping on it even though they both live.  Like my HEART, how DARE they.
30/AD. Name a couple of fandoms in which you have no ships.
I generally only actively seek out fandom stuff when I have a ship because searching for gen stuff is pretty futile, but it happens occasionally.  Newsies is the only one I can think of off the top of my head; I just want to read about Spot Conlon without shipping him with anyone (canon character or OC, it doesn’t matter), but that, like, never happens.  It did happen once though, in the excellent fic In New York about how he joined Tammany Hall and whatnot.
32/AF. Share five must-read fics.
Ok, are we talking across all fandoms or across Riverdale fandom?  Fuck it, I’ll do both, with the Riverdale choice that would normally be in the multi-fandom part moved to the Riverdale section.
Multi-Fandom:
1. Ambivalence by DreamScene (Code Geass) - An excellent look at a Shirley Lives AU.  It’s dark, it’s interesting, it’s a good character piece, the Lelouch/Shirley interactions are perfect in every way, and its got some nice smut at the end.  It’s a little screwy with the timeline, but it’s so good in every other respect that I do not care.
2. Ascendant by Samurai 101 (Naruto) - A very, very interesting Itachi time travel fic with a great and very unique take on time travel in general.  It really dives into clan politics and the difference in Itachi as a child and Itachi as an adult.  And the looming threat of Madara is so, so great.  Every side character is so fleshed out and real, and I love it.  Let it be known that I normally don’t like Itachi, but I really like him in this.  He’s not some perfect, all-wise ninja god; he’s a fuck up of a teenager and a kid trying his best, and he’s actually relatable.
3. Wanted It To Be a Game by SkylaDoragano (Persona 4) - An excellent role reversal fic with Adachi and Yu (well, more P4 Protagonist than Yu as we know him).  It really follows the domino effect of switching their roles out in terms of who lives and who dies and who joins the party in what roles.  It’s so interesting to see the domino effects of it all.  It really gets into the psychology of different characters, and everyone’s dynamics are fantastic, with a special shout out to Adachi and Saki’s friendship.  Seriously, if you like Adachi, this is a must-read.
4. 365 Days of Winter by zauberer_sirin (Durarara!!) - This is the perfect Izaya/Namie fic.  Like, their dynamic is so, so on point, and watching them fall in love when they really would rather not is such a delight.  I love the monthly format, and I love Izaya’s subtle jealousy, and I love how they never even explicitly confess their feelings.  It’s all so them, and I love it.
5. Executive Reform by karanguni (Final Fantasy VII) - It’s a Final Fantasy VII/Pacific Rim mash up that works surprisingly well.  It’s such a great gen fic, and the focus on the Shinra executives delights me.  Like, Scarlet and Hojo interacting while neither are being crazy?  Genius!  And it does such a great job of depicting the complicated relationship between Hojo and Sephiroth even though Sephiroth isn’t even an active character.  Everyone is so human in this, and I absolutely love it.  Tragically, it’s abandoned.
BONUS: Seven Suitors for Shirayuki by Sabrael (Snow White with the Red Hair) - Look, this doesn’t quite make the all-time top five, but I want to plug it here anyway because oh man, guys, this is top-notch slow burn/pining.  Like, by the end you are DYING, the burn is so good.  It fleshes out minor canon characters very well, and there are some great OCS, but they’re not OCs for the sake of OCs but ones that are truly necessary.  And the characterization is on point, and the obiyuki is SO GOOD.  Seriously, if you followed my advice about the show and fell into obiyuki hell with me, go read this.
Riverdale (Do you know how hard this was?  Narrowing this down?  There are so, so many things I want to add but can’t grrr)
1. cut while shaving by areyouabadwolf2 - I’ve made no secret of the fact that this is my all-time favorite Riverdale fic.  And in fact, it would normally knock Executive Reform out of its #5 spot.  It’s such a great post-season 2 darkfic, just an excellent look at where everyone could go from there.  It’s heavy on the Serpents, just the way I like it, and all the relationships are so cool.  Like, Jughead & Cheryl friendship?  Sign me the fuck up!  It’s also SO good at suspense and keeping secrets from its readers, and no one ever talks in a way that makes you go “ah yes, thank you for telling me that even though everyone in the room already knows about it.”  And like, the characterization in this is flawless, absolutely flawless, and the Betty/Jughead dynamic is amazing with them as a criminal duo.  I just. I love it.  Tragically, it seems to be abandoned.
2. The town called Riverdale by satelliteinasupernova - Yeah, you wrote this, so technically it’s redundant for you, but it belongs here, so tough.  This is the Riverdale/Princess Tutu mashup that I didn’t know I wanted, and it has an extra dose of eldritch horror.  The meta-y goodness is so delicious, and the suspense is fantastic, I was always on the edge of my seat.  It’s so great watching Veronica try to figure out this mystery while people around her are either cagey or don’t realize there’s a mystery to solve.  There’s such great uncertainty running throughout it,and I highly recommend it.
3. Black Cherry Chutney by lilibug - I love dark!bughead, I love it so goddamn much, and this is a great depiction of it.  And like, not just dark!Betty or dark!Jughead but both of them, and it’s such a delight.  Like, I absolutely love this Jughead from the word go, and Betty is so great because she is, like in canon, so much more than what she first seems.  The bughead dynamic is great, and the smut is fantastic.
4. Fullmetal Riverdale by lnles - This is such a good mashup of Riverdale and Fullmetal Alchemist that I cannot articulate it.  Like, it’s not just 1-1 insert Character A into Role A; it really works with the setting and characters of Riverdale to create something new but familiar.  It’s working with great pieces, and it does them both justice, which is saying a lot because Fullmetal Alchemist is very, very good.  I love the characterization and the hints of what happened in the past and the prose and just everything.  It’s not done, but it’s got a regular update schedule, so I’m hoping it gets finished. Go give this some love!
5. Shake, Rattle, and Roll series by TakeAWalkOnTheWildside - Ok, so I’m cheating here by putting in a series, but let me cheat, ok?  I’m still amazed that there are so few 1950s AUs for bughead, but I’m really glad we got this series.  It’s sexy, it’s fun, it’s period-appropriate, and it’s dramatic too.  Like it’s a whole saga of Betty and Jughead getting together and then being together, and it’s so fun.  Also, he eats her out on her dining room table in part one, so that’s great.
37/AK. Do you have a favorite trope and/or AU for your OTP?
For my OTP of OTPs, shirlulu, does Everyone Lives count?  Because that series does not end well for them.  But, ok, other than that, I want to see some mutual pining for them because the idea of Lelouch pining is so goddamn amusing, especially when mixed with perpetually pining Shirley being completely goddamn oblivious.  As for bughead, one thing I don’t see enough of (and crave more of) is their friends and family trying to play matchmaker for them but failing spectacularly.  Also, more 1950s AUs please.
