If there was one thing Phoenix knew to be true about her boyfriend, it was the fact that he was an absolute drama queen when he was sick.

Jake Seresin could come down with the world’s simplest cold, and he would lie in bed as if he was an orphan dying of tuberculosis in a novel penned by Charles Dickens.

“Please, Minx? Will you make me some soup? I’m dying here,” he’d begged the last time he’d caught the sniffles, blankets pulled up to his chin as he gazed up at her with puppy dog eyes.

“You’re a little congested,” Phoenix had told him in response, rolling her eyes. “Give me a break, Bagman.”

“I’m touched by your concern,” he had shot back sarcastically, huffing dramatically as he pushed back the covers and stood to go make himself some soup.

That had been mild cold and he’d been annoying. Now that he had come down with the flu, he was verging on insufferable.

Phoenix would admit that at least this time, he really was sick. And she did feel bad. He’d had an awful fever for the past couple days, and he’d complained multiple times about a splitting headache and intense body aches. She hadn’t caught the flu in years, but she remembered how miserable it was. Still, she couldn’t help but also recognize that he was truly milking the situation for all it was worth.

“Could I have back rub, Minx?”

“I think chicken noodle soup would really make me feel better right now. But not the one from a can. That one you make from scratch?”

“Can you get me the remote, babe?”

“I think I’m dying.”

“Would you miss me if I died?”

“I’d miss you if I died.”

Some of his more ridiculous comments were no doubt a side effect of the medication he was currently taking to try to combat the virus infecting his system. As loopy as they made him, Phoenix was adamant about Hangman taking his medication so that they could both get past this flu as quickly as possible.

“Minx,” Hangman murmured in the middle of the evening as Phoenix was leaning over him, adjusting his pillows and smoothing out his blanket.

“Yes?” Phoenix replied, trying to sound as patient as possible, though she was tempted to roll her eyes. She was sure another request would soon be coming.

“I love you,” he told her, reaching out and resting a hand on her arm. His eyes were heavy after another dose of medicine, but he was clearly fighting to keep them open. “And thank you.”

Phoenix’s mouth popped open in surprise, and a small bit of guilt for her earlier impatience niggled at her. “You’re welcome, Bagman,” she smiled, smoothing his hair away from his forehead. His fever had broken thankfully, though his skin was still flushed. “I just want you to get better as soon as possible.”

“I know I’ve been annoying,” he admitted sheepishly, suddenly introspective in the midst of his loopiness.

“No, not annoying,” Phoenix said, shaking her head as she sat on the edge of the bed and took his hand in hers. “Just a bit melodramatic maybe,” she teased with a grin.

“But you still love me?” he asked urgently, yawning despite himself as his eyes started to close.

Phoenix laughed softly, reminded once again of just how much she adored this dramatic idiot of hers. Leaning forward, she pressed a tender kiss to his still-warm forehead. “Always,” she whispered.

Hangman just smiled as he fell asleep.

the first character i ever fell in love with: Rebecca how could it not be she’s one of the protagonists of all time

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: I was pretty neutral on Nathaniel in s2-3 but dislike him more in s4, also I still like him but I liked Greg less after spending time in the fandom because even though I share the opinion of a lot of people who enjoy him and Rebecca more than her other m/f dynamics some of the ‘team Greg’ coalition could be insufferable about the level of focus they wanted for that.

my ultimate favorite character™: Rebecca Bunch. Valencia is second I adore her

prettiest character: Valencia Perez

my most hated character: technically it’s Ted and Naomi, of the mains Nathaniel could pull here again more so in s4 than the previous seasons

my Notp: nothing really reaches that level of vitriol but Rebecca/Nathaniel and Heather/Hector would be my least favorites out of the primary pairings, former for the reasons I said and then the latter just seemed like a lame pair the spares attempt that didn’t do much for Heather’s character arc

favorite episode: Josh is Irrelevant is a perfect episode IMO but my most rewatched is Why is Josh’s Girlfriend Eating Carbs? so that’s my comfort ep lol.

favorite season: s2! would say 2-3a if that counts

least favorite season: s4 but I still like it way more than most other tv / think it’s a decent concluding season, but yeah it’s the one I feel least compelled to rewatch

Summary: Caprica comes clean a few months early.

Disclaimer: All characters are the property of their respective creators.

Notes: Written for the Year of the OTP event. April prompt: canon divergence. This is one I’ve been looking forward to posting since I decided to do this whole event, and while there are a couple things I keep poking at to reword (particularly the last couple lines), it’s one of those ‘If I don’t just let it go, I’ll never stop’ situations, so here it is. Also, while I know The Plan implies a much tighter timeline here, this a) makes a little more sense to me, and b) makes for a more interesting story, so I’m going with what I’ve got here.

592 days, eighteen hours, forty minutes.

That’s how long it’s taken to get to this point. To complete her mission.

Well, mostly. She’ll have to remain in position until the very end, of course; to monitor for any problems, to guard against exposure, to make any changes to the program that can’t be done remotely.

It’ll take approximately three months, according to the most optimistic projections.

Three months for the last pieces to fall into place, for the final preparations for the strike.

Six months is a more realistic estimate; twelve is the worst-case scenario.

Worst.

592 days, eighteen hours, forty-one minutes since they met. Not that she’s been counting.

And in a few months, maybe a year, it’ll all be over. Really, truly over. Humanity will burn, she will be reborn, and…

It seems like an eternity. To stay with him, to lie to him--and, yes, she’s been doing that for so long already, and no, nothing has changed, not really, but it feels different.

It seems like no time at all.

Her heart races, and her mind whirls, spinning through all the little moments they’ve shared. Not the big ones--not their first meeting, not helping with his father, not the moment he said yes, but the little ones.

His fingertips, brushing against hers as he passes her a cup of coffee.

Lying together lazily in the morning, talking about everything and nothing.

Dragging the whiteboard out of his office to settle an argument; not really caring who won as they built their equations together.

Even that insufferable amused tolerance when the conversation turns to religion.

The way he smiles when he thinks she isn’t looking.

All the little pieces of the life they could have built together. That they almost have.

It will all be gone.

And he--he won’t wake up after. He won’t be reborn. He will just…burn.

He’s sitting there, next to her, like he has so many times before. If he’s having second thoughts, he’s hiding it well. He’s ready to give her everything she wanted.

Everything she asked for.

And all she can think about is that three months, six months, maybe a year from now, he will burn.

Five hundred ninety-two days, eighteen hours, forty-two minutes.

I can’t do this.

(It’s not just him; it’s all of them--however righteous her people’s fury, when weighed against all of those little moments, multiplied by billions of human beings…but if she hadn’t known him, if she hadn’t--loved--)

“Wait,” she says, putting her hand on his. Stopping him from going any further.

He blinks. “What’s wrong?” he asks.

“There’s…” She takes a breath. “There’s something you should know.”

His hands are still shaking.

He’s not sure how long it’s been, exactly, since she told him. Since she stopped him. Since he almost--

Gods.

Unsteadily, he pushes himself to his feet; gets another drink; only spills a little. He presses the cold glass to his forehead, reminding himself to breathe, to think, to--

I’m a Cylon.

She’s always seemed so…so real.

His heart races, and his mind whirls, spinning through all the little moments they’ve shared. Not the big ones--not the day they met, not the first time she brought him to her flat, not the moment he said yes, but the little ones.

The feel of her fingers against his when they brushed together across a cup of coffee.

Waking up together and staying in bed for hours, talking or making love or both or neither.

Dragging the whiteboard out of his study so one of them could prove a point, and it not mattering in the end who was right, because they worked it out together.

Even that irrational certainty when she talks about her God.

The way her face softens when she smiles at him.

All the little pieces of the life they might have built together. That they almost have.

…she seems real because she is.

After six hundred days, give or take, of seeing her, of sharing his life with her in ways he never has before, not with anyone, he knows that much for sure.

She is a real person. A real woman. A woman he--

He finds himself back across the room, back on the sofa, not really recalling how he got there. He seems to have brought the decanter along with him--probably wise.

He leaves it on the end table, though; stares at the melting ice in his still-mostly-full glass, and thinks--

What do I do now?

The obvious thing--the smart thing--probably the right thing--would be to turn her in. Tell his friends at Defense that he was…approached. As--as she pointed out, he hasn’t actually done anything yet. Nothing irrevocable, anyway. Nothing he can’t talk his way out of. He wouldn’t have to admit how close--and if she tried to claim otherwise, it would be her word against his, after all.

His reputation would be damaged, possibly irreparably, and he’d likely never work another government contract, but he’d keep his freedom and his head. Which is certainly something to consider.

And she…

He stares into his drink for another moment; slowly takes a sip.

In all likelihood, she would be…be executed. Terminated. Would they even see it as an execution? Would they--could they--even see her as a person?

…but in truth, as much as he hates to admit it, he knows that that is not the likeliest scenario.

A Cylon, one who looks--who feels--so perfectly real? So perfectly human?

No. Murdering her would not be their first move.

She would be studied. Tested, to determine her capabilities, her differences. If she cooperates, she may even be treated--decently. Considering. He would probably never see her again, but she’d be alive. They would both survive this.

Except…

He considers some of his other Defense contacts. What they might do with her. To her.

He shudders again and finishes his drink.

And, yes, all right, it’s entirely probable that cooler--saner--more human heads will prevail, but…

He cannot--he cannot risk that. He cannot risk her. Not like that.

He pours another drink, and pauses, recalling--something else she said.

That he was--that her mission was--their first, best choice for access (and whether he should be flattered or insulted at the thought is something to think about another day).

But he was not--is not--their only option.

The Cylons--her people--have backup plans, alternatives, should her mission fail.

And she doesn’t entirely know what those alternatives might be.

His blood runs cold at the thought.

It doesn’t change what he--what he already knows. He still cannot turn her in.

But he also cannot--knowing what he now knows, he has to do…something.

Can I? Can I really…can I do this? A question he hasn’t really asked himself, not in this sense, not in a long time. He is very good, the best, but getting into this so late in the game, and the risks involved…

…I have to. I have to try.

And if he fails…if he fails, having tried, at least he’ll be remembered as a hero. There are worse things to contemplate.

And she’ll be here.

She came to him for a reason, after all. The first time, yes, but the second as well. If she’d only been doubting her mission, she could have simply walked away. To stop this--if there is any hope of stopping this--she needs him. As much as he needs her.

Whatever…whatever else he might…

His phone is in his hand before he can change his mind, and he dials a number he’s spent five hundred and ninety-three days engraving into his mind and heart.

Not that he’s been counting.

She answers on the second ring.

“Hello?”

“It’s me,” he says, then takes a shaking breath. “I think that…that is, we should…I’d…can you come over? We should…we should talk.”

She lets out a little breath of her own; what it means, what she feels, he couldn’t say. “I’ll be there,” she says.

There’s a long, aching silence, full of things he wants to say but--can’t. Not now. Not yet.

Perhaps not ever.

“…I’ll see you soon,” he says, when he can’t bear it any longer.

“See you soon,” she echoes, and the line goes dead.

Perhaps it’s simply…a decision has been made, he’s taken a step in a direction, but he somehow feels less…

He puts the phone down carefully; closes his eyes; finishes his drink; settles back to wait.

For the end.

For some kind of frakked-up beginning.

…for her.

hiii! for the fandom ask game, since I don’t know any of your other fandoms, pick whichever one you’re familiar with: asoiaf/got, stranger things, doctor who or percy jackson :)

oh my god thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about pjo. that was probably my very first fandom, i was absolutely obsessed with those books as a kid and i'll be completely insufferable when the show comes out.

favorite character: annabeth chase, my original blorbo

least favorite character: not much of a luke fan. like, i think he's a well-written villain, don't get me wrong, but the way he treats annabeth is really gross and i don't think riordan really acknowledges how creepy and bad that relationship is.

brOTP: percy, annabeth, and grover of course. i also have a soft spot for the nico and reyna side quest buddies situation in the sequel series. and the percy, hazel, and frank trio was also really fun.

OTP: i read these books when i was like 10. wasn't really actively shipping anyone back then. i just kind of went with whatever couple i was presented with. that being said, the percabeth slowburn was done immaculately, so i'm not complaining.

OT3: idk maybe percy/annabeth/piper. don't know if that's a thing in the fandom but it could be enjoyably chaotic.

NOTP: luke/12-years-olds

favorite storyline: does sally murdering gabe count?

least favorite storyline: the last book of the sequel series was so underwhelming (except for the reyna and nico parts, those were iconic)

what I wish had happened but didn’t: listen, i know i just said that i hate luke, but he's absolutely correct that the gods suck and shouldn't be in charge of anything. those kids should have unionized.

what happened that I wish hadn’t: i think the treatment of annabeth's family in the third book is really weird. percy meets them for like five minutes and they're nice to him so he immediately decides that annabeth must have been wrong about them all along? like i'm sorry, you can't establish that the kid ran away when she was seven and then try to convince me that she was actually in the wrong because her stepmom gave her friend a cookie. annabeth's family is awful and i really wish riordan hadn't tried so hard to retcon that.

3. If they complimented each other, what would they say?

They are so in awe of each other that the compliments are frequent and detailed. Lexi always draws attention to Fez’s intelligence, because it’s something he’s insecure about, but what she loves most about him is his kindness, his patient, his empathy. On a shallow level, Fez tells Lexi that she’s beautiful all of the time, but he also compliments her because she’s brilliant, fearless, a force of nature, and he admires her tenacity and her fierceness.

6. What is/are their love languages?

Undoubtedly, Fez’s love language is physical touch. He isn’t materialistic in the slightest and sometimes he gets embarrassed by compliments, but he absolutely relishes Lexi’s embrace, he never feels so loved as when she’s clutched close in his arms, fingers brushing his face, his chest, his hands.

Quality time is important to Lexi because she hasn’t always had people who pay her a lot of attention. It’s novel to her to have Fez deliberately make time to be with her, it makes her feel appreciated and love. However, she also really loves words of affirmation. Which is convenient because Fez loves to compliment her!

For Essie

1. What are things they both find funny?

I think that Cassie and Ethan watch reality TV together, so they both find insufferable rich people to be very funny. They also both think that Fez is a comedic genius; they spend a lot of time laughing at him at family dinners and double dates.

I don’t gush about civilian Guy enough

In my canon he has a secret identity. So he’s a high school gym teacher and football coach by day and a space cop superhero by night

And I love the idea that he refers to all of his students as “his kids” and the football players all call him “Coach G”. He brings lots of healthy snacks and drinks to football practices and debates with the kids who the best Justice League member is (“I think Beacon is the best, she’s really hot”). He’s also a really great mentor and confidant to the students, especially the ones in rough homes

His classroom is always open to students who want to hang in there for lunch and a select few trusted students are allowed to take his keys to gym storage and take equipment to play during the long lunch period. They’re allowed this privilege as long as they put everything back before lunch is over

And he’s talked about me so much to his students that they know who I am when I move to Baltimore and transfer to the school he works at. Like they see me in the library and recognize me from the pictures on his desk. And they start being a lot better at being quiet in the library out of respect for me but they hang out there more to chat. The whole school loves us together

Why I like them: WHERE TO BEGIN. kyle’s been one of my absolute favorites for a looong time, and I’m starting to think the top spot is his forever lol. He’s emotionally complex in a really relatable, strangely realistic way, and the episodes that nail his character are some of the best in the show imo. He’s such a little spitfire and it’s so charmingly adorable, and that wrapped up with his fraternal instinct, his martyr complex, and his powerful (but a little weird) moral compass makes him such an intriguing character. Also I think his hair is cute <3

Why I don’t: I think how insufferable he is at times is adorable, so I’m a bad person to answer this question LMAO - if I had to choose something, it would be him throwing his friends under the bus from time to time. Him screwing Kenny over in Jewbilee was hilarious, but still mean :(

Favorite episode (scene if movie): There are so many good ones that it’s impossible to choose! But Guitar Queer-O, You Have 0 Friends, Toilet Paper, Free Willzyx, The Jeffersons, the Black Friday trilogy, Margaritaville, etc. are some of my favorites as well as being really good for his characterization.

Favorite season/movie: Can’t choose!

Favorite line: There are a ton of good (and more insightful) ones, but I love “Dude, you don’t understand. I’m a Jew. I have a few hangups about killing Jesus.” Just assume that I think all of his lines (especially the ones in his speeches) are wonderful and perfect.

Favorite outfit: is there any other answer other than elf king Kyle? (yes, there is, and it’s either jersey kyle, his weirdly high effort outfit in ‘are you there god? it’s me, Jesus’, and his cute hair in elementary school musical)

OTP: Both K2 and style have a special place in my heart, but I also love cryle - I just want him to be happy 🥺

Brotp: also style and k2, but tokyle is also very appealing especially after the special! i also think kyle + wendy make for an interesting brotp, and I like kyle and bebe as friends too!

Head Canon: I have so many of these, but they’re all super situational and specific, so I’ll just list a general one - I think he’s gay, and I’ll go into detail if anyone’s curious about why!

Unpopular opinion: I’ve mentioned this before, but I reaaaally think people who call Kyle equally as athletic as Stan are really grasping for straws lol. He’s certainly athletic and definitely has a penchant for basketball, but every other sport he’s played has been with every other guy in the class - and his interests in sports in general just isn’t nearly as prominent as Stan’s. The ridiculously sporty Kyle headcanon really isn’t as popular nowadays as it has been in the past, but there are still frequent posts asking why Stan is seen as more athletic than Kyle - to which I respond that it’s true, and you’re also five years late to this debate. The fandom has mostly leveled out when it comes to extreme views of Kyle, so I guess my main unpopular opinion is actually just ‘lay off on this tired old debate’ instead of contradicting a headcanon of the character himself.

A wish: for him to end up happy someday :( he deserves it

An oh-god-please-don’t-ever-happen: Him and Stan ever permanently separating as friends - they need each other 😭

Why I like them: The Poor Kid will never not tug at my heartstrings. Kenny’s obviously vulgar and crude at a first glance, but the tenderness of his character really is undeniable when you look deeper - he has so much internal struggle and suffering, but he still maintains so much kindness and love for the people he cares about (even 40 years later!) and that makes it really hard not to adore him.

Why I don’t: this implies that there is any reason to dislike Kenny, to which I say nay (all jokes aside, this is actually hard for me to come up with something - if I had to pick a reason why I didn’t get immediately attached to kenny like I did with some other characters, it would just be that he doesn’t have as much of a prominent role in the show - you really have to dig deep or get involved in the fandom to properly appreciate him the way he deserves)

Favorite episode (scene if movie): The Poor Kid!

Favorite season/movie: Again, not good at picking specific seasons, but if the superhero trilogy counts as a movie, then definitely that one.

OTP: K2 is the absolute OTP imo for kenny, but I also have a soft spot for crenny and kendy 🥺

Brotp: stenny and crenny for sure! kenbe is also very cute as a brotp

Head Canon: He’s actually very smart! And you guys have no idea how thrilled I was to see this confirmed in the special. His grades aren’t great because he’s maintaining a job, taking care of his sister, and Mysterion-ing around at night instead of getting sleep and doing his homework, but he’s still super clever.

Unpopular opinion: The general consensus among a solid portion of this fandom is trans girl/genderfluid Kenny, but I really just see Kenny as a more feminine cis guy. I do enjoy content with those headcanons, but I also think the prevalence of them brings to light this fandom’s tendency to take male characters with feminine qualities and make them nb/trans, while suspiciously leaving the more masculine characters as cis. I’m intrigued by the trans girl and nonbinary Kenny headcanons, but I would love to see more solid reasoning other than ‘character wears a dress, therefore must be a girl’.

A wish: give him more screen time!!!

An oh-god-please-don’t-ever-happen: I don’t think it’s likely at this point, but I would hate for them to kill him off for good.

So my fic rec post was in my notifs again the other day, and I noticed a while back that the formatting on the post has gotten all messed up and it’s also had like three reblog additions to it anyway meaning there are three versions out there lol. so, I wanted to do another list of chuck fic recs! I’ll keep the other one up still, so I’m not gonna repeat every fic here, just some I really recommend. I’m also adding the fic summaries, which I didn’t on the old post, and some more of my own opinions so, buckle up for a long post!

Chuck Versus the Steampunk Chronicles | Steampunk.Chuckster

1896. A world powered by steam, where humans and machines coexist, and airships are the fashionable mode of transport. The US Empire's deepest and darkest secrets arrive at Chuck Bartowski's doorstep. Have they fallen into the wrong hands? Or will the inventor prove his mettle, even while he's forced to hide from the very people he's protecting? AU, ongoing chronicle, Charah.

A genuinely incredible AU story, with an entire crafted world and universe, so detailed it frequently blows my mind. There is heart and family and infuriatingly brilliant slow-burn, plus a buttload of danger and super fun historical/steampunk action. Oh how I LOVE it.

Chuck vs the Charade | somedeepmystery

When computer nerd Chuck Bartowski returns home to an empty apartment and a dead girlfriend he finds himself embroiled in a deadly game of espionage and deceit. Everyone around him is playing a part to get what they want and when he starts falling for the new woman in his life, he can't help but wonder if he can trust her or if she's the one he should fear the most.

An action and twist-filled AU based on the movie Charade, which is just such a brilliant fic concept I absolutely adored it from the start.

Two Sides of the Same Coin | dettiot

When you're a spy, there's all kinds of occupational hazards when you work with another spy. For Sarah Walker, though, one mission becomes a life-changing experience. Because working with Charles Carmichael leads to protecting Chuck Bartowski.

The first time I read this fic my mind was just blown to its genius. Such a brilliant interpretation of what the Intersect and its concepts set up in the show could be, and ooooof the Chuck/Sarah interactions, my HEART. Related to it, its companion piece:

Chuck Bartowski is a normal guy who just hit rock bottom. No girlfriend, no career and no super computer stuck inside his head. It isn't until Chuck meets a gorgeous stranger on the beach that he begins to think his life is about to change for the better. An AU Chuck fic without the Intersect. "Change one thing and it changes everything."

I said it on the OG post, but this story has one of my top 5 Chuck/Sarah fic meetings. So funny, so... very Chuck. The story is a little angsty overall, but a great read.

Chuck vs the Rogue Spy | Crumby

When a rogue spy from Chuck Bartowski's past shows up to help him during his first solo mission, Chuck hopes that he'll finally find out what happened to Sarah Walker. Post-S2 AU.

There’s a lot of Season 3 fix-it fics out there, which I don’t usually read bc I actually love season 3 lol, but this one’s a good one! A twisty deviation from canon, but still feels really true to character.

Chuck Versus the Nerds Rewrite | Steampunk.Chuckster and David Carner

What happens when two nerds talk endless hours about their favorite TV show? A new take on the show you know, but with the flair, twists, and turns you've come to expect from Steampunk . Chuckster and david . carner. Somewhat canon. Charah.

As the summary says, a different take on the show, which honestly makes a couple changes I would too, but also adds a bunch of fun twists and plots that make it totally new and fresh. Seeing Chuck and Sarah’s thoughts in the more canon sections is just delicious, too.

The Trapped Assassin | SarahsSupplyCloset

After a mission goes awry, the CIA's most lethal assassin is ordered to take vacation while her superiors figure out what to do with her. But when she meets a disarming tourist, their immediate connection only adds to her disillusionment with the agency and her career. Will he be enough for her to finally take the plunge and leave the only life she's ever known? Charah AU

A warning for the very justified M rating if you don’t like that sort of thing, but this is definitely a plot-heavy fic, too. A really neat Sarah-heavy AU, with a whole lotta Chuck/Sarah fancy French vacationy goodness.

Chuck vs the Second Chance | malamoo

AU from mid-season 2 and onwards. Chuck and Sarah part ways only to be reunited years later. COMPLETE.

Literal, crying-at-my-screen angst. Not even a super happy ending. But a brilliantly written, part-reflective/flashback fic, exploring what would’ve happened if Chuck and Sarah’s relationship really was an assignment all along-- and the aftermath. It’s heartbreaking. But if you want a little heartbreak, this is your fic.

Ready at Your Hand | dettiot

In the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, a Catholic plot against the queen comes to the attention of spymaster Sir Francis Walsingham. To protect Elizabeth, he develops an unusual plan: hide the passing of intelligence between two agents by a false romance. When Lady Sarah Walker and Chuck Carmichael meet, though, their pretend flirtation becomes much more.

I love Chuck fic for the very reason that it’s inspired such adventurous and totally unique AUs. Here’s some Elizabethan fake-dating Chuck and Sarah! They have to be so Proper, it’s like that hand moment from Pride and Prejudice but Elizabethan and times a billion. The pining!!

Sarah Versus Getting Married | Steampunk.Chuckster

Sarah Walker is getting married. Canon. Charah.

I’d recommend all of SC’s fics if I had the room, and I’m already recommending a ton sksks but most of my fic recs are AUs, and this one isn’t! It’s canon, and covers some of in the gap in 4x24, with Sarah just before the wedding itself. Super sweet, heart-tugging, brilliant.

A Chuckmas Carol | Mikki13

A new twist to Dickens' beloved "A Christmas Carol". When Sarah begins to shut out the world around her, three spirits come to show her the error of her ways. Season 3 AU.

Another Season 3 AU, this one written pre-series so it definitely doesn’t fit to canon, but it’s still wonderfully rich in character depth and angst and it also made me cry. Plus, festive!

Chuck Versus Thin Ice | Steampunk.Chuckster

On the doorstep of the Olympics, top American curler Sarah Walker has lost her mixed doubles partner and her boyfriend in one fell swoop. Her coaches throw newbie Team U.S.A. curler Chuck Bartowski onto her team and thrust them into the Olympics, hanging America's curling hopes on two people who only have a short amount of time to learn to trust one another. Charah AU.

Do you like curling? Or the Winter Olympics? It doesn’t really matter because somehow this fic made me extremely invested in both of those things, as well as Chuck and Sarah and them being INSUFFERABLE. Catch me now knowing a ton about curling thanks to this fic.

Walker’s Eleven | Moonlight Pilot

Not the same plot as the movie. Sarah Walker never got out of the con game or became a spy, and now she's on her final con. What happens when true love and betrayal get added to the mix? Twists, turns, and Jeffster!

Con!Sarah always interests me, and this fic is full of her. Lotta con plot, lotta Chuck and Sarah.

The Detective and the Tech Guy | thecharleses

Sarah Walker is a Pinkerton detective. Chuck Bartowski is an electronics genius. They wouldn't have met except for a case of mistaken identity and murder. Will the detective and the tech guy solve the mystery, distracted by the riddle in their own hearts? An homage to The Thin Man film series. Formerly co-written by Steampunk . Everyone in this fic is so damn cool. There are so many martinis. But also great heart and family and like, standing up for who you love, and later also Chuck with Baby Clara content which frankly the show robbed us of. Also, PI!Sarah!!!

I’m particularly in love with this fic because, instead of beginning with a meet-cute, it involves Chuck and Sarah already two years into a friendship-- Sarah is Ellie’s best friend. And she’s been crushing harrrd on Ellie’s brother. Also Chuck is in a tux. It’s pretty.

Set, Spike, Dive! | Frea O’Scanlin

Chuck never expected to even make it to the Olympics. Everything is working against him: he's too tall for a diver, too inexperienced for a medal, too much of a wildcard to really make his mark. But an unexpected meeting at the airport, some intriguing new friends, and a whirlwind romance on the sand just might set up London 2012 as the time of Chuck Bartowski's life.

A London 2012 AU, because why not. This is just a fun Olympic-y ride!

OTP (One True Pairing) Prompts | David Carner

A series of Prompts I found online about different times and places in Chuck and Sarah's life. Mostly AU, mostly one-shots. I assume mostly fluff, but I might get deep. I doubt it, it's me. Charah...ALWAYS (It says complete, but if an idea strikes me...)

If you’re not so into long stories, this fic is perfect. Individual set-ups and stories, all Chuck and Sarah, and all super cute. You could dip in and out and just pick a scenario you enjoy.

This fic gets props for being historically-set but still including the Intersect. Again, a historical AU, so the pining!! the need to be Proper!!! But besides all that, there’s a lot of action fun as well.

Chuck Versus The Crosswalk: Remastered | WvonB

Will a last minute mission help our two favorite characters finally get together? This is the remastered version of my first story.

The original version of this fic is on my first list; this is the updated version! It’s not a complete AU, instead a story that diverges from canon, so if you’re more into canon characters and setting than a new AU scenario, this is a great fic for that.

David’s done something pretty special with this fic. It’s Chuck and Sarah centric, but very much an ensemble piece, too, with a lot of Team Bartowski and other familiar faces throughout.

Chuck Versus the Con Game | Steampunk.Chuckster

AU. Chuck and Sarah are partners in the con game. It's an existence wrought with danger and violence. Every day could be their last. Every mission could be the end of the line.

This is where I freak out SC and declare this fic the reason I ever got hooked on Chuck fic and then wrote Chuck fic, and the reason I still love it today but. that is true lol. Just so. so good. It’s also written with the chapters out of chronological order, which is super fun from a reading perspective. But con!Sarah AND con!Chuck?? Best. The kind of fic you will be thinking about for days (if not, y’know, years).

As you can tell by the repeats, I highly recommend just about anything by Steampunk.Chuckster, dettiot, or David Carner, but there are a TON of amazing Chuck fics and authors out there. I’ve never known a writing community so wildly creative-- there are so many unique AUs and canon explorations and story concepts that this show has manifested, and it’s all so much fun.

Most of the Chuck fic community is still over on FFN rather than AO3, so if any of these whet your appetite, feel free to have a browse there for more stories. I’m sure you’ll find something great. Personally, all the incredible writing there has also led me to write a buttload; I’m at halfachance on FFN, so if you see any of my stuff or wanna chat fic, feel free to message me there or here.

the Megstiel tag is always a minefield of these two kind of posts I hate (one more than the other tbh).

there’s the kind I’ve already complained about. you all know them. “Megstiel is gay/lesbian solidarity!! they’re just platonic besties!!!”. that kind. insufferable, really.

the gay!Castiel headcanon is transparent and annoying that they just want to invalidate non-Dean ships (some go as far as saying he’s deansexual in case any of us dares ship him with another man RME), but I COULD buy that it’s their actual interpretation of canon. one I don’t agree with and see as superfluos, if I’m honest --when there’s no specifications or real basis to go further, trying to make anything besides “queer” The One And Only Accepted Fandom Truth is suspicious to me ngl--, but an interpretation.

Meg, however? homegirl made explicit overtures (and then some) to the THREE main dudes of the show (or two dudes and one man-shaped angel, however you choose to see it). she ENTHUSIASTICALLY propositioned Castiel AND she was canonically, explicitly IN LOVE with him. she doesn’t even have a decent interaction with a female character in all of the show (if you don’t count terrorizing Jo while she wears Sam’s body), but you’re telling me you BELIEVE in your BONES she is exclusively attracted to women and this is not some transparent way to remove her from the narrative?? do you think I’m an idiot?? lmfao.

but, look. I hate this trend but it’s a common hate. these people are interchangeable to me. I’ve seen this shit in plenty of fandoms before (love how it manages to be both lesbophobic AND biphobic, btw). I’ve been around. it’s tiring but it’s whatever.

BUT THEN.

there’s a subset of posts I encounter every damn time I check the tag. they’re all following the same damn script, which is “oh I do like megstiel...”, with some vague opinions thrown in, but rushes to make it veeeeery clear they see Castiel/Dean as inherently superior and anything between Castiel and Meg as automatically lesser. right there in the Megstiel tag!

I know some people will see this post and try some “multishipping is valid!!” bullshit. let me assure you I’m more of a multishipper than you, tyvm (I’m literally planning some big prompt list to write Castiel rareships asldkfjasdf). AND I’m a multishipper with preferences. sometimes you’re talking about a ship and you offhandly mention it’s a casual thing for you and you have another otp. that’s a thing.

but UNLESS you’re actually discussing the casual ship in question, why the hell would you put it in its tag? if all you’re saying it’s “I ship A but I ship B more”, why do you tag it “A”? if you’re saying “I ship A but I ship B more, and here’s everything I love about B and makes it better than A”, why do you tag it “A”???

the reason why is obviously because you know what the fuck you’re doing and you WANT Megstiel shippers that visit the tag to see your bullshit and react to it. it’s purposeful, it’s personal, and I want you to know I hate your guts <3

you guys are even tempting me to go into the Castiel/Dean tag and start talking about how I do find their dynamic fascinating BUT on ocassion! with caveats!! and how I don’t think they could ever be happy together even if they tried to!! while Megstiel obviously could and has so much going for it including a canon kiss!!! (which, btw, is my actual, real opinion on the matter lmfao)

“Here, take my scarf.”

Saw an OTP prompt list and got a burst of inspo to write a thing with impa and an OC. (Who I still need to post about on here, oops.) Winter had come early this year, in a matter of days Hyrule was covered in a thick blanket of snow. You'd be lucky if your horse carriage didn't get stuck in it. Already everyone was ready to go out and play in the snow, while others kept to themselves inside. It had been some time since Impa was able to fully admire the season. She forgot how pretty the scenery could be. "Impa!" Looking behind her she saw Crayne running over, looking a bit concerned. "Impa! It's so cold outside, aren't you freezing?" Impa shook her head, looking down at his hands which were now gently holding hers. "No, I'm fine. I went through a snowstorm dressed like this before." Crayne gives a sigh, takes his scarf off and starts wrapping it around her. "Take my scarf, I don't want you catching a cold." Impa brings her hands up in protest. "I told you I'm fine, Crayne. I don't want to take your scarf or you'll end up cold yourself. Trust me, I can handle a little bit of cold." Stopping, Crayne looks at her for a second. "I do trust you, but I want you to be safe. Or, do you want me to take care of you after getting sick?" She felt her face flush, who does he think he is? She didn't need anyone taking care of her because of a cold. She wouldn't even let her sister do it, what makes him think she'd let him do it? With his cute smile and beautiful eyes.. Oh Hylia help her.

Taking her hat, she dips it down to cover her face. "Well, that.. That doesn't sound that bad actually.." Crayne looks a bit confused for a second, did she just say what he thought she said? A smirk quickly finds its way on his face. "You make it seem like it would be. Are you sure you're not just trying to get sick so I do that?" She glares at him from under her hat. "Of course not! In fact, I can bet that I wouldn't get sick even if I wasn't wearing a coat!" She was standing on her tiptoes now, almost level with him. "Is that so? Impa, please just listen to me and either come inside or wear my scarf." Their faces were so close now, she could practically feel the heat coming off of him. She wondered if she were to kiss him.. would his lips be warm too? "I- I'm telling you! I'm not col-" She cut herself off at the feeling of his gloved hands coming up to hold her face, which somehow felt warmer now.

"What are you doing?" They both stood there, just looking into each other's eyes for what felt like hours. Finally Crayne brings her face closer to his, sealing the distance with a kiss. Impa's eyes go wide, was he reading her mind? At least now he’s confirmed her previous thought. Slowly, but surely, she lets herself calm down. She leans into the kiss and forgets what they were talking about before. She almost forgot that they were out in the open until a voice called out to her. "Oooh! Having fun kissing it up over there, Impa?" Impa quickly whips her head around, seeing Purah with Robbie looking at them. Purah was holding up her own Sheikah slate replica, probably ready to take a picture. "PURAH!" Impa's face was now red again from a mix of embarrassment and anger. "Lighten up, sis! It's not unusual for couples to kiss. Look." Pulling Robbie down by the collar of his coat Purah gives him a kiss, gaining a smile from him after. "You two are so insufferable!" She quickly makes a snowball and throws it at them out of frustration. "Oh, you want to have a snowball fight now?" Purah gives her a smug grin, ready to grab her own ball of snow to throw at her. "Be careful, Impa. Purah is really good at them!" Robbie chimes in. "Ugh." Impa grabs Crayne's hand and leads him to anywhere but here. "Where are we going?" Crayne looks back at where Purah and Robbie were for a second, then returns his gaze to Impa. "Somewhere quiet. We weren’t done." Crayne's face heats up. "If you wanted to keep kissing me you could just say so." Impa quickly turns around and stares up at him. "Lean down." Doing so, she grabs his face and kisses him. Pulling away after a minute. "You're warm." Crayne laughs. "See? I told you that you were cold! I bet you secretly want to cuddle too, don't you?" Impa looks away, not letting go of him. "Oh- You do! We can do that too! You can always tell me what you're thinking, especially if it's stuff like this." Impa looks up at him again. There he goes with his signature grin. That damn smile.. How was he always able to get her with it? She offers her own smile in return. "That sounds nice."
