I'm thinking about Orion's relationship with magic.

He's only known magic the way the Keeper and Merrill use it. It is just a part of the world, like all things are. He doesn't think much of it

And then when he's in the human lands, he learns that mages are locked up, that people hunt them. He's horrified and upset. It's not fair. It's not right. Magic is no more dangerous than any part of nature

This conviction grows when he meets Morrigan. Her magic is so different from the magic he's familiar with. It's fascinating. It's beautiful

But then it changes. When he goes to recruit Shale and a little girl befriends a demon. Orion tells the demon he will kill it. He doesn't know any better not to

And the girl dies.

Orion is horrified. He blames himself. He didn't know better. He sees how dangerous magic can be

Redcliff also casts doubt in his mind. Connor is just a boy and magic destroyed him. Orion refuses to let another possessed child die because of him. He allows Isolde to sacrifice herself, unwilling to take chances

Orion is haunted by children and magic and he fears the power it has. He is still in favor of liberating the circles, especially when he sees how desperate the mages became without their freedom

I started writing an original novel about the character that was Enda’lin Mahariel/Sabrae and asked @nedsseveredhead permission to use Orion as inspiration for the character Theo as his place in Enda’lin’s life became kind of quintessential to his character. In this world he’s a bratty little half-elf punk who goes to the “trouble school”, sells Enda’lin his cigarettes, and picks on him mercilessly for, well, everything, but mostly his friendship with his weird lil half-sister brother. Sooo I doodled up this sketch of how I imagine his appearance. 

To pay homage to his original character he keeps his skin tone, dyes his hair grey-white, wears green contacts, and has a scar round-abouts where his vallaslin would be. The punk themed jean jacket is not inspired by Orion but I would like to believe he would wear it if it did exist. So… what do you think?

Man, MAN the Mahariel recruitment..

The raw emotion. The RANGE. Something about walking back to camp after a loss so devastating that it leaves you completely empty , going through the motions, talking to everyone, in a way saying your goodbyes before you even know what's to come next- to then speak with the warden, have him ask to recruit you and instead of whatever resistance he may have expected to find, you dont even glance at the keeper before saying yes.

I'm replaying Dragon Age: Origins and I just left Lothering. I have to decide which order to do the main quests in

I usually do the Circle first just because it's my least favorite, but I don't know if that actually makes sense for Orion

Especially since Stone Prisoner is gonna kinda traumatize him as it concerns magic when he fails to save the young girl

OC fact swap :^))) !! Orion Mahariel, though a decent hunter, is great at cooking. It's something he has been practising since he was a scrawny little kid. He loved to cook for his clan members, and during Origins he was mainly responsible for feeding his companions. It calmed him, and he could be found baking in his free time after he moved to Antiva with Zevran.

I bet Zev was very happy and thankful for his cooking!

Luwalhati also knows how to cook. Whenever she had free time, she’d go to the Skyhold kitchen and cook up some Seheron and Dalish foods, or close enough to it with the stuff they had lying around. She eventually starts to carry a little bit of spices with her when they go out, just in case they get stuck somewhere and have to make their own food or just because she doesn’t want to eat the food that the Inquisition provides for them at camps or keeps.
