kicking wild AUs around with @theabysscomeshome and this is another in the Not Actually Going To Write It category, but this scene really stuck with me, so a brief snippet:

"Grand Sage," Lisa says as sweetly as she can manage, smiling at him. She very carefully doesn't look up and dare draw his attention, or that of the matra with him, to the branches overhead where Kaeya lurks. "How nice to see you. I was just taking my underclassmen to study in the House of Daena." She rests one hand over her catalyst at her belt, casually, as if she's not perfectly positioned to unhook the tome from its strap, and puts the other down on Collei's shoulder. Cyno has better self-restraint; he's rigid at her side, but most of his attention is on her, waiting for instruction. Collei has ducked a little behind her in what she suspects anyone else would take as childish fear. Lisa knows what she's really restraining. His lip curls. "This is exactly why I'm here. You and your instructor have coddled those *subjects* far too much. I'm reassigning them to another research team immediately, before you irreparably taint their research value."

Fury floods crackling through Lisa's veins, and a thousand and one retorts rise to her lips. None of them will make an impression on him, though. She knows what this is really about. Why he's really here.

*Zendik.* Kaeya was right. The strings he's been pulling lead all the way up.

"I haven't received any reassignment paperwork," she says, sweetly, teeth still gritted in a smile. She doesn't dare start to unbuckle her catalyst yet. There's four matra flanking the Grand Sage, and she has no intention of giving them an excuse. Not before Kaeya gets here.

"It will be forthcoming," the Grand Sage says, drawing himself up.

The matra are watching her tensely, and Cyno even more so; they, too, seem to be disregarding Collei as the frightened child she so often seems. So often is, Lisa corrects herself, but that doesn't make her any less dangerous. She's not sure whether to be more insulted on her behalf or on Cyno's that they're tenser about him, as if his desert skin and desert god make him an inherent threat to good order despite all his careful self-discipline, and as if *she* isn't the Witch of the Purple Rose.

"I see. In the meantime, why don't my underclassmen and I-"

"The *subjects*," the Grand Sage says, a muscle in his jaw jumping.

Which was exactly the wrong point to quibble on. Collei gives a choked, furious sob and tears away from Lisa, trying to dart past the matra towards the far edge of the plaza and the ramp down to freedom. The matra, focused on Cyno and Lisa, don't move fast enough; the Grand Sage, unfortunately, has even less ability at threat assessment, and snatches at Collei as she brushes past. He catches a hank of her hair, so recently freed from the bandages, and she screams.

The hair on the back of Lisa's neck goes up. She can feel the power pulsating from Collei's small frame, bare inches from going out of control--from being *unleashed*. Because it will be, if Collei thinks that's the only way out. The matra all quail, crying out in confusion more than in terror, uncertain as to why they're afraid and all the more frightened for it. Lisa steps in front of Cyno, yanks on the strap around her catalyst, and pulls it free, as if it would be any help against the Black Fire.

Kaeya hits the ground directly beside Azar, rolls, and comes up with his catalyst already glowing in his hand. He tosses it up to hover beside him as he reaches out to grab Collei's arm, and he digs his other elbow into the Grand Sage's gut to make him let go as he yanks Collei away. The man grunts and stumbles back, winded by the blow, and catches up against the railing of the platform-

And flails for just a second, eyes wide with terror, before he pitches over to plummet to the ground below. Lisa flinches at the distant, unpleasant *'splat'*.

Pulling Collei in close against him, Kaeya glances over the edge, looks up at Lisa, and shrugs. "Whoops."

"The Grand Sage!" one of the matra cries, comprehension returning and horror infusing his tone as the ominous weight of Collei's nearly-unbound power lifts away. "He's murdered the Grand Sage!"

"We'd been talking about storming the Sanctuary of Surasthana anyway," Kaeya says, throwing Lisa a wry smile before he turns to meet their leveled spears. "We may just have to do it a little ahead of schedule."

"I'm beginning to agree with you about getting answers from the Archon herself," Lisa tells him, ozone filling the air as her own catalyst starts to glow purple-bright along its bindings. "Especially since we can't ask them of Azar any longer. Though if Cyno and Collei could-"

"I don't think we have the time for that. It's fine. Collei, do you still have those daggers I gave you?"

Collei makes a small, determined noise and pulls two wickedly sharp blades out from somewhere in her clothing. Lisa sighs, sets aside the matter of arming small children to discuss with Kaeya *later*, and prepares to pair with him in a Superconduct that will make those blades more effective. There is value, she supposes, in teaching Collei alternative ways to defend herself.

"I don't have a dagger," Cyno mutters behind her, sounding put out. "Why didn't I get a dagger?"

"Later," Lisa tells him, firmly, and lets her Lantern Rose bloom.

#fic bits #kaeya about five minutes after breaking into the sanctuary of surasthana (he needed time to process the situation): #'not that i felt bad about the grand sage in the first place. but if i had i would feel much better now' #and then lisa and kaeya speedrun the archon quest like five years early #entirely because lisa started off wanting to refute zendik's latest paper. his research methods are bad and he should feel bad #which was her opinion even BEFORE they discovered the human experimentation #she thought his accounting of methods and results was too vague to support his numbers and now she knows why he was vague about it! #kaeya was initially just here to support his roommate in her academic rivalry and then they found collei and. well. #when he's NOT viewing her as a threat to mondstadt? he is all for getting his own occupied-by-an-evil-god underclassman #look lisa look. this one doesn't have moral qualms about killing people without just cause :) can i keep her?

Immortal c!Prime design hcs bc why not

So firstly, Immortal c!Dream is mostly the same he just doesn't hide his white streak anymore lol

Immortal c!Tommy, however... yeah I have many thoughts abt him :)

So basically, with each revival he goes through during the revival experiments, his hair gets a little more white. And also, around the point where almost half of c!Tommy's hair has gone completely white, he also loses the color in one of his eyes (c!Dream absolutely does not miss the opportunity to point it out and rub in how death is "changing him"). So he has one faded blue-grey eye and one white eye for a bit until there's just barely any blonde left in his hair, and then the other eye loses it's color too.

(c!Dream is keeping count of how many revivals it takes to make c!Tommy's hair entirely white this whole time, and he definitely takes note of when his eyes lose their color too.)

By the time they're both immortal (which c!Dream made sure happened in a way that c!Tommy wouldn't know how he did it just to make sure he couldn't make anyone else immortal), c!Tommy's hair has been fully white for a while already. Also he has a scar in the shape of c!Dream's signature smiley face on his neck (c!Dream carved it into him with a knife, deep enough that he bled out and had to be revived right after), partly because he really pissed him off one time, but really c!Dream had been planning to do that for a while :)

Now for the actual Immortal c!Tommy design hc: My version of him is basically like an upgraded protegeinnit lol. He's got the matching hoodie with c!Dream but red instead of green, and he gets a smiley face mask identical to c!Dream's. Also, after a while of being forced into doing some revival himself for "experiments" (they might be immortal now, but there's still so much to learn about death, you know?), his eyes become an unnatural glowing blue. (c!Dream was really excited about that. It still managed to scare the shit out of c!Tommy when he saw it for himself the first time.) He hates how much it makes him look like c!Dream, but also after spending so much time being conditioned and believing he has no one else, it's almost a little comforting.

Eventually c!Tommy is allowed out of the prison as long as he wears his mask (and he prefers to anyway bc he's self conscious abt his eyes + he believes everyone would hate him), and it's not like he could run away even if he wanted to bc c!Dream can track him anywhere (he stole the "Your Tommy" compass just before Doomsday and eventually managed to fix it). And c!Dream teaches c!Tommy how to revive ppl on his own, but only after he's made it very clear what happens if c!Tommy revives someone without his permission-

He will hunt them down, make them beg to be dead again, kill them, and maybe revive them and kill them again a few more times :) And c!Tommy gets to watch :) And maybe he'll even force c!Tommy to kill them a couple times- all he'd have to do is threaten to make it even more agonizing if he has to do it himself :) :) :)

Genuinely I absolutely, thoroughly hate the way people have gotten in regard to "You can write fic about dark subjects, but don't ever go into detail about those subjects" (if they even concede that people are "allowed" to write about anything unpleasant at all).

Because I just read an excellent one that was...very fucked-up! Actually!!! But it was also a nuanced and gripping examination of abuse--switching between the POV of the abuser (who lies to themselves about the reality of their actions, making their POV sections all the more uncomfortable for it), their victim (who lies to themselves in a different way, by refusing both to acknowledge their own victimhood or to consider the ways they later come to continue that cycle) and, eventually, an outside party (who is the only one aware of the true reality, and tries (and fails) to help, through the comparatively powerless ways that are available to them).

And this thing was not reserved in any way regarding its depiction of all of this. It didn't cut away cleanly after a vague uncomfortable comment for the reader to fill in every single blank for themselves. There were even times where the victim themselves was under the impression that they were genuinely enjoying what happened, because they convinced themselves that they had control over a situation they never had control over!!! And I know that...certain people. Would absolutely accuse this fic of "romanticizing abuse" because of these things. Which I think is an INCREDIBLY unfair assessment of it, especially since most of the time the discussion of "romanticizing [x]" is less a discussion and more, "I don't care what the author intended, this story simply shouldn't exist because this is incontrovertible proof they are a horrible person in reality, also they should die."

#do NOT ask me what the fic was if this post finds the type of people I'm complaining about they would 100% go and harass this person #I'm also thinking about that One Scene in shiki (b/c I'm thinking about shiki a lot in general during many days) in the hospital with the #experimentation. and THAT one is horrifying and grisly too but I wouldn't take it out? the most brutal act we see is by a human. #the most realistic horror is perpetrated by the guy who thinks he's In The Right that MEANS something. it's INTEGRAL to the story's themes! #and like. yeah sometimes these things CAN come across as fetishistic (or at the very least...WILDLY ineffective) or gratuitous #but that's not automatically the case? #like I really do think there's a middle ground here between 'ALL depictions of EVERYTHING are EQUALLY effective and we do not EVER need to #consider how various topics are typically presented in art (especially when it's meant for a mainstream public audience)' and #'SOME things should NEVER be talked about or if you HAVE to they can ONLY be done THIS specific way or else you should KILL YOURSELF' #like I think we can gauge a story's effectiveness and cultural context and optics on a given issue with. you know. actual nuance. #tw: abuse #tw: suicide baiting #tw: death threats #tw: abuse mention #I'm trying to cover all the tags that people might have blacklisted
