ObiRin Misconception - Obito’s Trauma
Okay why is it that I am seeing so many obirin hate lately? Let me clear up some misunderstandings. This is by no means a post for people to change their minds about shipping obirin (ship whoever you want, it’s not my business), rather, people are disliking this ship for reasons I find ... well... baffling.
So here is my perspective (and no, it does not invalidate another’s perspective in any way just in case you’re wondering).
I have always been an avid obirin shipper, and as a feminist, people may question the contradictory nature of this.
Obito is in an incredibly complex character and alas, there is a reason why I absolutely love him. He is my favourite, has always been and will always be (also, he’s a villain and he’s hot). Though there are parallels between Obito and Naruto, it’s important to distinguish the nuances. Both characters had no family growing up (I am not going to count Obito’s grandma as she is an anime only character and not technically canon), had it tough at the Academy, disliked by a lot of people and technically an outlier. However, Obito never had an older mentor growing up, whereas Naruto did (that would be Iruka). When children are growing and developing, having someone to provide that nurturing environment and guidance is crucial for their mental and physical development. Because neither of them had their families, Naruto was lucky that he had Iruka. Iruka provided that big brother figure, the mentor and in some ways a caring environment for Naruto, despite the hardships. Obito, however, did not receive any of this.
What Obito did have, was Rin. The two have been childhood friends for a very long time. Rin gave Obito that sense of security and attachment, despite them being the same age. She always cared for him and saw him more than just some dumbass nuisance Uchiha outlier. Obito’s love for Rin transcended romance. Of course the romance was the overt part, but his love for her was his sense of security. She was his safe space. When a child grows up without love or care from a parenting figure or a mentor, they will find ways to cope and latch onto the closest thing they can find safety and comfort in. Rin took on this role. So when Rin was killed before him, naturally there would be a sense of deep despair and anger. The trauma for Obito was remarkably intense, and his ability to bounce back from adversities was nullified. Why? Because;
1) The intensity of the trauma, grief and loss
and
2) The safety net, safe space and sense of security that shielded him from the world’s adversities were gone. Obito had nowhere to go.
A lot of people would say: “but he had Minato,” “he had Kakashi,” “he had Kushina.” Yes he did, and they were kind to him (minus Kakashi, and I will get to him in a sec) but they only came into his life for a short period of time. Their interactions were not on an intense level as it was with he and Rin. People need to remember that Obito learnt his idea of safe attachment on his own and he latched onto Rin. He was never taught to do that with adults as he grew older. Naruto however, had Iruka, who most likely taught him a lot of things about the importance of the village, the importance of camaraderie, friendship etc Obito did not have this, so naturally, his ability to trust adults (even loving kind ones like Minato and Kushina) would take a lot longer or sit very tentatively. If there were conflict or adversity, he would run to Rin, or think of her because that was all he knew.
If you unpack Obito’s character, there were immense attachment issues and trauma that most likely transcended what Naruto had. Naruto had his fair share of trauma but he had support that allowed for some resiliency. Obito was NOT obsessed with Rin. He was not infatuated with her. He was psychologically intermeshed with her. This is very different from so called obsession and infatuation. Psychological intermeshment stems from traumatic upbringing in childhood (lack of nurturance from an adult caregiver, abandonment etc), and then again from losing their sense of security/safety (Rin in this case). Because Obito was so intermeshed with Rin, losing her was essentially losing himself - and he blatantly said this. He lost all hope when she died. So he did what he could to get that sense of security back, even if what he did was questionable.
Then you have the complexity of the curse of hatred that intertwines the storyline, which make things even more complicated. But this curse was what pushed the storyline and placed Obito as an antagonist. He did not start a war because of a girl. He started a war because he was angry with the way the world functioned. How the countless wars kept ending lives and taking loved ones away from people. He did not want people to go through what he went through. In essence, this mindset has villain written all over it, but it also compels a strong backstory for Obito because of his complex childhood upbringing and the trauma he experienced.
We move to Kakashi, who had his fair share of childhood trauma. But people need to remember that he had a father who provided that nurturing environment for him. Even if his father died in tragic circumstances, Kakashi, though traumatised, was able to bounce back and push forward with the support of his friends and village. He had an adult attachment figure (gosh I sound so social workey but this is how it is) where he learnt how to tackle adversities. Again, with the death of Rin, there was trauma there for him too. So why was it so different between Obito, Kakashi and Naruto? The latter two being able to bounce back and push forward but Obito lost control? It all comes back to childhood upbringing and the presence of an adult caregiver/mentor. That, and then again, the presence of the curse of hatred (which was why Sasuke was pretty fucked up despite coming from a loving family).
Something else I’d like to add re; Kakashi. He started being nice to Obito in that one episode where they were trying to locate Rin. He was a plain asshole before that. So technically the two of them were never on friendly terms before this event. Kakashi did not give two shits about anything aside from completing the mission. This is the reason why I do not ship Obito x Kakashi. To me there was no love, care and nurturing between those two. Obito “died” not long after being friendly with Kakashi, so that wouldn’t warrant a ship between those two. Whereas with Rin, it is a different story. Also, for those of you who thinks it is creepy that Obito has photos of Rin on his board, I’d be surprised if your 12-13yo self didn’t put love hearts of your crush over their school photos, or tested your marriage names together. Seriously.
So to summarise; Lack of childhood nurturance + lack of adult caregiver + trauma + curse of hatred = Obito
And like I said, just because of all this crap Obito’s been through, it does not excuse what he did or make what he did right (he was a villain after all).
Yeah okay rant over.
I’m open to discussion, but please keep it civil.

i'mma be honest I want to see your answer to all of the questions, from A to Z. if you feel like answering, PLEASE
ksudhwajsdcgsgd OH MY!!
okay okay, A/K/Z have already been answered here
B:  What was the first fandom you read fic in?  Which was the first you wrote fic for?
the first fandom I read a fic for was my chemical romance and it was a gerard x f!oc x frankie and I didn't even know what fanfiction was but I wanted more! 😂
the first fandom I wrote for was bandom (band fandom) but I don't remember which band I wrote for first.
C:  How did you come up with the title to [insert fic]?
most of my fics are song lyrics or things that pop into my head :p
D: What’s the most personal fanfic you’ve written?
on this blog? it has to be je te laisserai
E: What character do you identify with most?  Is there a certain fic of yours that captures these qualities particularly well?
kakashi. we're both hella depressed and we believe that we're undeserving of love. also, we're both lowkey su!c!dal. I haven't written anything that showcases how I can relate to kakashi but maybe in the future!
F: Is there a song or a playlist to associate with [insert fic]?
I need a title angel :(
G: If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it be about?
same as above 😅
H: How would you describe your writing style?
a mess lol. I get possessed by a writing ghost and have no idea what I wrote lol and I don't proof read either.
but then when there are times I am consumed by writer's block that I simply cannot write.
I: How many fandoms have you written in?  Do you have a favorite?
I've written for game of thrones, marvel, anime, kpop, supernatural and peaky blinders.
my favorite are game of thrones and marvel because they're interactive.
J:  What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?
enemies to lovers and no I haven't :(
L:  Which of your fanfics was the most emotionally challenging to write?
definitely eddie helps you with depression from my marvel blog
M: What’s the weirdest AU scenario you’ve ever come up with?  Did it turn into a story?
I don't have a weird scenario but I did write a bnha/naruto crossover fic where I talked about the similarities between bakugo and sasuke and why bakugo is way better. I sadly deleted it from ao3 and I can't find it on my laptop :/
N: Any fic ideas brewing that you’d care to share?
an extremely angsty toji one shot im working on
O: What are your thoughts on people writing fanfic of your fanfic?
never happened to me but I wouldn't mind if I was credited ^-^
P:  Where did you find the most inspiration for your story < insert title >?
most of my fics are inspired by songs or by my life lol
Q: Do you like getting prompts from your readers?
I used to but not anymore. im just not that committed or talented.
R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?
my soulmate. she's the reason I'm trying so hard to improve my writing. I want to be her equal when it comes to writing.
S: How do you feel about fan art inspired by your writing?
I WOULD BE HONORED ❤️
T: Any fanfic tropes you can’t stand?
miscommunications, love triangles, arranged marriage and soulmate au. ik ik how can I hate soulmate aus when I have a soulmate of my own? see, my soulmate is platonic and not romantic. I just don't like the idea of someone deciding who my lover would be without my consultation or permission.
U: Is there a pairing you would like to write, but haven’t tried yet.
gojo x utahime, chilumi and obito x y/n :(
V: Are there certain comments you’ve received on your stories that have stuck with you?
"Awesome topic and you delivered it so well! I didn't know I need this fic until I read it, Dany's emotions and her realization of how special Sansa is to all these people is shown very believably here. And she's probably more in character here than in actual series. I love this." from my got fic on ao3
"Honestly, this fic has given me so much to think about because now I am in love with the idea of Tyrion making scenarios that required Sansa and Sandor to be together simply for his own amusement (though we would deny this, of course).
Not sure what you mean about writing skills failing, because this was absolutely adorable! The way you wrote it is exactly how I feel it would be written if this scene (Tyriom catching on) was canon. I felt that you did a good job in capturing Tyrion's thought process, and the story overall was so cute! So glad I read this! Keep up the great work :D" from another got fic on ao3
W: What is your favorite pairing to write?  Favorite pairing to read?
shikafemnaru!! I read anything with femnaruto 😂
X: How would you categorize your fanfic reading?  Are you a voracious reader?  Do you carefully pick and choose?  Something in between?
I carefully pick and choose but there are times when a fic would just randomly catch my interest
Y: What are your thoughts on your personal satisfaction with something you’ve written vs. the popularity of your stories?  Do you tend to be most satisfied with your most popular stories?
my most popular fic is this and I'll always be thankful for it and I am satisfied with it but im honestly selfish and I want some of my other fics to receive the same amount of love.
well, that was the end of it! thank you for this ❤️

Character meme! Maito Gai! Casue I mean... look at my icon. This should be no surprise.
You have chosen the very greatest picture of Gai as your icon.  I am honoured to write this tribute to a lovely man.
Tumblr media
First impression
Wuh… turtle… a man… on a turtle… a man on a turtle… in a green… a green… one piece… jumpsuit? with… orange… yellow… orange… puce… sienna… goldenrod—fuck it idk what colour that is it’s orange now—leg… legwarmers? are..eyebrows? what? but the other one? matching? what? i don’t… who thought this was a good idea?  Why… is that a sunset?  Why is he talking like this?  Is this funny? Is this dumb?  a turtle?  How is the turtle talking, and is it a tortoise or a turtle… idon’tlikehim—nowait—he’s the greatest
Impression now
Gai is amazing.  Hilarious.  I have mad respect for him.  He may have started off as a joke character but he is actually amazing, as a person, as a teacher, as a character, and I love him.
Favorite moment
After the Chuunin Prelims, the scene where Gai is talking to Lee about the probability of Lee surviving the procedure, and promises that if Lee dies, then Gai will die too.  It’s the first moment you see Gai being serious, and you learn the true measure of his devotion.  Gai might be loud and obnoxious and sunset genjutsus, but he’s also love and warmth and he would do anything for someone he cared about.  This was the first time we saw Gai—and Lee—as people and not gags.  And it was touching and sad and it really made me care about both of them.
Idea for a story
Fuck if I know.  Let met think…I hate to do this, but since Ume is known as the Queen of Angst I’m going to say I was inspired.  When Kakashi is in the midst of his ANBU depression and Gai petitions to be able to join, instead of saying ‘no,’ Sandaime says ‘yes.’  Now we’ve got ANBU Gai, being forced into completing these brutal missions or being charged with insubordination of the highest degree (the punishment of which, is death).  Not wanting to see Gai punished, Kakashi does the dirty work while Gai basically panics.  Seeing how much further into his shell this is pushing Kakashi, Gai bites the bullet and starts pulling his own weight.  The two spiral deeper into ANBU and the darkness that follows them, desperately grasping onto each other.  Gai finally begs Kakashi to leave one day, but Kakashi cannot, even seeing how affected Gai is.  So Gai sticks by his side, slowly killing off all the brightest parts of himself.  Until one day, Gai see’s a young boy with thick eyebrows trying his damnedest to be a ninja without chakra, and begs Sandaime to let him be the boy’s sensei.  Hiruzen finally smartens up, and ejects both Gai and Kakashi from ANBU.  They get their students, and they learn how to heal with their new purpose (Gai is better off at first, but he drags Kakashi behind him).  And then everything eventually works out because I was making myself sad.  As a payoff to having Gai in ANBU, let’s pretend that Kakashi and Gai were such a great team, they ended up finding Obito, they caught him, brought him to the village for rehabilitation.  No Uchiha Massacre, Madara is dead already and now has no one to bring him back to life, Zetsu walked into a patch of experimental weed killer and died (yes, all the Zetsu, it was a huge patch and they just kept walking into it for no reason. maybe there were some parasitic ants that took over their brains or something convenient like that), and everyone lives, everyone’s happy, hugs and kisses for everyone.  Boom.  Horrible ending.
Unpopular opinion
I honestly think Gai would be the greatest boyfriend.  As in: The. Greatest. Ever.  He would win awards for being an amazing boyfriend, and an amazing husband, and an amazing father.  Why?  Because he would give you his everything.  And not in a ‘Oh, I want to take advantage of the man,’ kind of way, but in the sense that, once Gai has decided you’re the one for him (even if you’re just the one for him right now) he is going to put soooo much effort into making sure you’d be happy.  He’d be bringing you little gifts every day, just because they reminded him of you.  They would probably all be different, things that he saw while doing his crazy training throughout the village, but they would all have some sort of deep personal meaning and you would probably love them.  Ok, there might be some trial and error in the beginning, but the man learns fast and never gives up.  If you didn’t like receiving physical gifts, he would gift you every day with something non-physical.  Maybe you like horrible poetry?  Gai will write you daily poems.  Maybe you like massages?  Gai will give you daily back massages, foot massages, wrist massages, full body massages (and i do mean full body massages) etc.  Maybe you just want someone to sit quietly with and cuddle for like an hour—Gai will stfu and cuddle with you.  Sure, he’ll be bursting with thoughts after, and he might get a little fidgety, but he will 100% do it, if it makes you happy.  So you better fucking treat him good or I’ll cut you.  Okay, Kakashi will cut you but still.  Don’t do that to Gai.  If you’re an introvert and you feel sometimes that his personality gets to be a little much, he will try to tone it down or give you space, but he’ll be back to 11 in a heartbeat if you change your mind.  He would remember every single important date.  If you wanted to go somewhere or do something, Gai would make it happen.  Whether that’s going skydiving off the mountains in Lightening, or looking for a mythical fish off the coast of Water, or going to the Land of Hotsprings for some R&R, or just going to the corner store to pick up your favourite take-out and that movie you were talking about.  Did you run out of sugar while baking?  Gai will bring you sooo much sugar in like two seconds flat.  Is he out of the village?  Doesn’t matter.  His summons are at your service (even if they’re a bit slower).  He would back you up no matter what (and even if you broke up, Gai would still have your back.  Gai is Ride or Die ok, he will be there for you as long as you’re not horrible and cheat on him or something.  Don’t be mean to Gai; he’s precious). If you’re having problems in your relationship, Gai will do his best to work them out with you.  Gai will go to therapy and work his ass off to make both of you happy. Gai obviously has his quirks and his own issues, and wheelchair bound Gai will probably take some time to bounce back into his normal vigour.  But honestly, out of his generation, he’d probably be the best boyfriend.  People don’t want to date Gai because LOUD and EYEBROWS and THAT HORRIBLE OUTFIT but a) he can be quiet if you need him to be, b) the eyebrows aren’t that bad get over it, and c) you bet your ass Gai looks amazing naked in civvies.  Don’t ask Gai to change for you (honestly, if you caught his attention, then I probably don’t have to tell you that) because that’s just mean.  But Gai will treat you right.  Date Gai.  You won’t find a better boyfriend.  And if you’re lucky and he proposes, marry Gai.  You might want to elope, though.  He will go a little overboard with the ceremony otherwise.  But hey, you’re dating Gai, you probably like overboard.  So go for the ceremony.  It will be the greatest wedding anyone has every attended.
Favorite relationship
If you’ve been on my blog for more than five minutes you know I love Kakashi.  But that is not my favourite relationship of Gai’s.  I love Gai’s relationship with his students, but specifically with Tenten.  Now I know what you’re thinking; sibi, why choose Tenten when there is Lee, Gai’s protege.  Well, it’s simple.  It’s easy to get along with someone who is like you.  Lee has always been a mini-Gai, and so it was not hard for them to bond.  Both have a relationship based on common interests and common goals, and it is a beautiful relationship.  Gai and Neji’s relationship falls in a similar vein; hard working student, eager to improve himself through hard work.  The problem here is that Gai isn’t much of a mentor—not by any fault of his own, but by virtue of Neji focusing on the Gentle Fist Style.  There were certainly exercises to build endurance and stamina and team bonds that Gai taught Neji, but Neji had a path already, and it was easy to guide him on it.  I love Gai’s relationship with Tenten because he had none of that.  All Gai had in common with Tenten was that they both work hard.  She had no real direction, she had no clan to teach her a specific style or put her on a path she could follow.  He could not identify with her as a girl, he didn’t really know how to treat her (because while Gai is a ball of sunshine he is awkward in his own way) but despite this, he didn’t give up.  He wanted to help her fulfil her goals.  Tenten’s dream was to be like Tsunade?  Gai was going to make that happen.  He tried to set her up with a medical ninja, since that’s what Tsunade was most famous for.  uh oh, Tenten didn’t have the chakra control.  Gai was not deterred.  Tsunade was known for her super strength…but that also required chakra control that Tenten didn’t have.  Gai was not deterred.  He tried to give her his summoning contract, but Tenten ended up insulting the tortoise and ruining that chance, as well as a chance for any animal summon (as the tortoises would surely gossip about the disrespect).  Gai was not deterred.  He taught her how to summon weapons.  He just kept trying.  Gai tried his best to equip Tenten with the skills she would need to fulfil her dream.  She did not end up proficient in the same way that Tsunade was.  But she found her own star.  She found something she loved, developed a fighting style all on her own, and became the greatest at what she did.  And Gai, who didn’t have the talents to teach her to be like Tsunade, didn’t go ‘oh well, I can’t help her,’ he said, ‘if this doesn’t work, then we’ll try that, and if that doesn’t work, we’ll try…’ until Tenten found herself.  He was an amazing mentor to all of his students, but this is most evident, in my opinion, with Tenten.
Favorite headcanon
I don’t remember where it started, but I like the idea that Gai is actually a genjutsu type, and whenever you see the sunset behind him, it’s actually him casting a low level genjutsu for theatrics.
Here is the ask.  Send me a character (canon or oc) or even a pairing.  Up next is Genma, and then Hidan, Adult!Obito, Rock Lee, and Ino. (which I think I’m going to have to do later, it’s time for me to sleep).
Already completed: Madara, Kakashi, Shino, Tenzou

Wizard’s Naruto Headcannons
I’ve shared a couple of these with other people, but anyways, here’s several of my personal Headcannons for the Naruto Series that I either haven’t seen someone use yet or is barely used at all. If you see one you want to add to a fic or use, go for it (maybe send me a message b/c I wanna read it too damn it XD) Enjoy!
1.) Tenzo wears that helmet thing to cover up the scars from Orochimaru’s experiments
2.) Tora the Cat is actually a Summoned Cat belonging to one of the Fire Daimyo’s Ninja Guards and is constantly shirking his duty of watching over the Daimyo’s wife.
3.) Orochimaru is bigender/genderfluid
4.) Naruto spends a majority of his early life as a ninja thinking “What Would Iruka-Sensei Do/Think?” and if he can’t decide, it turns into “What Would Jiji Tell Me To Do?”
5.) Kakashi literally never lies about why he’s late, he just happens to know where to go looking because he’s following Obito’s regular paths. However, whenever he uses the excuse “Lost on the Road to Life”, he’s 50% of the time with the Hokage, and 50% of the time at the Memorial Stone.
6.) Kisame used to love eating sushi but now refuses because of all the puns on his looks.
7.) The Hoshigaki Clan created Samehada way back whenever.
8.) Ramen is actually Kurama/Kyubi’s favorite food but he refuses to admit it because then his Jailers would have something to “Bond” with him over.
9.) Sasuke is actually really good at Calligraphy but hates it because Itachi taught him and his handwriting is hella feminine.
10.) Naruto learned to swim by watching the girls Jiraiya peeped on during the Time Skip.
11.) Gai’s favorite color is actually black but every time he’d wear green when they were younger, Kakashi would twitch, so he wears the Jumpsuit to constantly fuck with his bestie (And the rest of the world)
12.) Kiba had a crush on Sakura back when she was quiet and shy Pre-Ino but was too shy to tell her, and then he grew out of it when she grew into the loud, bratty girl we saw at the very beginning. He’s gotta thing for the quiet, kind ones.
13.) Yugito Nii was predisposed to liking cats well before she became the Jinchuriki for one, and would have become the next Neko-baa upon reaching old age.
14.) Killer B’s brother A is actually a Really Good Rapper but refuses to do so because he doesn’t want to hurt his brother’s feelings or encourage such behavior.
15.) Gaara’s favorite color started out as red but after becoming Kazekage it became orange.
16.) Hidan became a Jashinist because his parents told him “You can be anything you want to be... Except that” and he’s always been a little shit.
17.) Anko adores Traditional Tea Ceremonies.
18.) The Aburame Clan wear the outfits they do because the Kikaichu in their bodies raises the sensitivity of their skin, so keeping themselves covered in soft, loose clothing is a defensive measure.
19.) Kakashi’s biggest regret (just barely ahead of Obito’s ‘death’) is that the last words he ever said to his father was “It’s your fault.”
20.) Ino is allergic to cats and absolutely refuses to let her team do the Capture Tora Mission, no matter what other one they have to do instead (Even if it’s Shovel Manure or something)

hating on rin because she does not return obito’s romantic feelings is misogyny
And before I launch into my tirade, I would like to clearly state that I am an avid obirin shipper (they are my OTP). However, I’ve come across quite a few people who are hating on Rin for absolutely ridiculous reasons.
First and foremost, nobody is asking you to like her character or what she does, but simply hating on her because she does not reciprocate obito’s romantic feelings is by a long mile, considered misogyny. And I will tell you why.
Women are not fucking obliged to return a man’s romantic feelings, no matter how amazing, sweet or supportive he is of her. No matter if he destroys the world for her or dies for her, no matter if he has been by her side since forever, no matter how much of a good guy he is. No matter the fucking reason. And just because Obito has always loved Rin and the fact that he has done so much for her, it does not mean he is fucking entitled to her. And nor should anyone think so, because if you do, you are reinforcing toxic patriarchy, that is, the whole idea that a woman owes a man her body, mind, soul, everything, because he has given himself up for her.
I mean HOW DARE SHE!? HOW DARE RIN NOT LOVE OBITO ROMANTICALLY BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN SO NICE TO HER? How dare she deny a man of his needs! How dare she loves someone else! THE AUDACITY!
Well here’s something from Rin 🖕🏽🖕🏽
Rin is allowed to love Kakashi even if she is fully aware that Obito is madly in love with her. I’ve been seeing shit posts around how much of a bitch Rin is and how she does not deserve either Obito or Kakashi because she doesn’t care about Obito’s romantic feelings and only loved Kakashi. Well I tell you what, Rin can love whoever the fuck she wants and she has every right to. She is not obliged to pity love Obito and if she wants to be with Kakashi then she can.
And here’s the interesting part, when a guy goes above and beyond for a girl he loves, when he is sweet to her, supportive of her, and done every amazing thing anyone could wish for in an amazing partner, then he is seen as someone who definitely deserves the girl (and i hate how people say “deserve the girl” b/c that just objectifies her) and the girl should definitely go for him because if she doesn’t she is seen as a bitch. But when a girl is in love with a guy and goes above and beyond for him, is supportive of him, and the guy does not reciprocate, the girl is labelled as obsessive. Yeah fuck the misogyny and this hypocrisy in particular.
Right, rant over.
