All I want to make right now are these gooey noisy chord / drone / texture things that slowly shift and evolve. No melody, no meter. Pure sound bath, dumb and beautiful.
The video features 100% wet Mood MKII using the “drip” delay to pitch everything down and chop it up. There’s no raw tape in the mix, it is all Mood (in spread mode btw, turn your phone sideways for stereo stuff).
I've been meaning to at least talk to someone about this for ages; this little detail has been something that really made Ikkei's performance for me, and I just wanna appreciate it.
So one thing I'd noticed while watching initially is that, while it is hinted at, Louis' heart condition is never actually stated in the musicals. He is mentioned in The Three Brother's Secret to have been "hurting and sick" (according to the subs from Kana's Musings), but it's never quite stated what he is sick with, and at no other point do they return to the matter.
I must note here that I don't speak Japanese, and as such may have missed some nuance, so feel free to correct me if this isn't actually fact. That said, it is correct to what comes across with the subs.
That being said, Ikkei does still hint towards it through actions. Often, in moments of song (typically solos) where he's talking about his devotion to his brothers, he'll bring his right hand to his heart, perhaps as a way of saying "this is what you gave me, now I'll tell what I'll give you". Occasionally he'll bring his left hand up to join it, but not always, and he'll often take a strong grip of his jacket too. Below are all the moments of it I'd found; I couldn't find it in OP3 (though I may have missed it).
OP1 - The Three Brothers' Secret
OP1 - Louis and William
OP2 - Devotion
OP2 - Making the Devils Pay
Anyway, yeah, that's all. I just wanted to appreciate that little detail he'd put in. I do think it really enriches Ikkei's performance of Louis, and allows for subtle fleshing out of his character and motivations. Ikkei is really about to make me a full Louis fan over here.
And finally, here's a rather pretty screenshot of Louis from OP1 (during The Three Brothers' Secret) because I always thought he looked hauntingly beautiful in that moment, and it needs to be appreciated
