Honestly after talking with some friends, this is the impression I get from them so have this silly meme. Oh and the what-if scene for HZ023, if you care.
All jokes aside, I genuinely had fun writing this! This is how I personally would love to see happen. I hope it'll be an enjoyable read haha!
Series: Pokemon Horizons
Characters: Friede, Amethio
Mild warning for description of character injury. And HZ022-HZ023 spoilers.
--
The loud screech that emanated deep within the mines stole his attention and halted the battle between them. Friede did say Amethio wouldn’t catch him looking away but his eyes automatically flickered to the source. What he saw emerging from the tunnel made his blood run cold.
Liko and Roy. Cap, badly wounded in Liko’s arms. Something big and angry chasing after them.
“Charizard, Flamethrower!” Friede ordered almost immediately.
His trusted partner swiftly fired off a stream of fire from its mouth, hitting the Pokemon that looked like Moltres dead center.
“Friede!” He heard Liko yell as the mine cart rapidly brought the kids and Cap away–hopefully towards safety.
“Keep going! Take care of Cap!”
Liko’s desperate scream of his name made his heart ache with guilt but Friede couldn’t afford to spare them any more attention, not when the flaming Pokemon turned its fury filled sights upon him.
To his brief surprise, he zeroed in on the Ancient Pokeball grasped between its talons. So, this was one of Lucius’s Pokemon too? Like Rayquaza and Arboliva?
The Moltres lookalike once again screeched in fury, and Friede swore he saw fire-like aura emitting from it. All of them had to dodge the bevy of Air Slash crescents fired off from its wings, where some veered towards the tunnel where Liko and Roy escaped earlier. It swiftly caused that mineshaft to collapse.
Ah, so more like Rayquaza than the gentle Arboliva then. Got it.
“Guess I made it mad,” he uttered, smirking nervously. While Friede enjoyed battling against strong opponents, even he knew better than to contend with multiple enemies at once. At least between the two in front of him, one could be reasoned with. Hopefully.
“Hey! Temporary truce?” Friede spoke to the still frozen Amethio. That snapped the teen out of whatever trance he’d been in.
“What? Why–”
“Look out! Flamethrower!” Friede ordered, to which his Charizard readily fired off another stream of flames towards the wave of dark purple energy targeting Amethio and Ceruledge. Chillingly, the Flamethrower passed through it so nothing stopped the attack from hitting Trainer and Pokemon head on.
“Amethio! Charizard, go up close and use Dragon Claw!”
With a mighty flap of his wings, Charizard surged upwards with gleaming orange claws, rearing them back before striking at the furious Pokemon.
In the meantime, Friede rushed towards Amethio and Ceruledge. Both of them were flat on the ground, looking like they were struggling to get up. He didn’t spot any immediate visible wounds but their actions indicated that something was wrong still.
“What’s wrong? Where are you hurt?”
“Ngh… it’s like all my energy’s been sapped,” Amethio replied through gritted teeth. He had pushed himself onto his elbows, looking past Friede to stare at the Moltres currently engaged in an aerial battle with Charizard.
An attack that sapped away at one’s stamina? If Friede looked closely, both Amethio and Ceruledge breathed out what appeared to be black wisps. Through his extensive knowledge of Pokemon and their moves, he was genuinely at a lost. He’d never seen an attack–outside of Ghost-type moves–that didn’t directly harm the user but drained their energy before.
Charizard’s roar drew Friede’s attention to his flier. He saw Charizard swooped out of the way from that odd attack again but within the enclosed area, his room to fly around was pretty limited. The moment that Moltres get a good solid hit in, it was over.
Friede swiftly checked his surroundings. Aside from the mineshaft that the kids emerged from and the one that collapsed behind him, there was one more that he vaguely recall Amethio coming out from. While he wasn’t keen on entering deeper into the mines, their priority right now was to get away.
A small part of him bemoaned the loss of fighting against such a strong opponent but he couldn’t be selfish here. Not when he needed to get Amethio towards safety. He might be someone who stood against him but he too was painfully mortal, just like Friede was. It didn’t matter that they were enemies once that Moltres got its fury filled talons on their squishy bodies.
“Right, we’re gonna head there. Return your Ceruledge and see if you can hold on,” Friede instructed, already in the process of looping one of Amethio’s arms across his shoulders.
“What are you–let go of me!” Right, why would this guy make things easy for him?
“Now’s not the time! Unless you want to take your chances with that thing, we’re getting out of here!” Friede hissed back, losing all traces of his playfully serious mood. From the corner of his eye, he saw how Charizard collided with the stone wall from one of its Air Slashes. His partner wouldn’t last that much longer.
Thankfully, Amethio finally took the hint. After returning Ceruledge, he quieted down even if Friede sensed the disgruntled air coming from him once he pulled the skinny teen to his feet, one of his arms looped around the other’s waist. Amethio did not walk unsteadily but it still took effort for Friede to support him without them swerving from the straight path towards the open mineshaft.
Just as they reached it, a loud screech halted them. Friede risked a look behind, feeling his heart drop to his stomach upon seeing his downed Charizard. Now the Moltres had its furious sights on them again.
It curled its wings in, gaining an ominous sheen to it before the Moltres released another wave of Air Slashes towards them. Friede didn’t think much when he shoved Amethio inside the mineshaft while he rolled to the side. His ankle screamed at him when he scrambled to his feet, nearly buckling underneath his weight. The slashes barely missed him, though the ones that did connect started to cause the entrance to crumble.
If he was to get stuck in here and get ripped to shreds, Friede wanted to at least return his Charizard to spare it that gruesome fate.
Just as he raised his Pokeball to return Charizard, a purplish figure dashed out of the slowly collapsing entrance. Friede heard a call for “Phantom Force!” over the Moltres’s screech and the sound of his partner now safe in its Pokeball.
Friede spotted Ceruledge emerging from its portal to slash at Moltres from above, effectively drawing its attention that he could stumble his way to the mineshaft, pushing through the fire that surged from his ankle. He just about avoid a fallen support beam, then fell past Amethio who quickly returned his Ceruledge.
Another loud screech, then the entrance really started collapsing in earnest. Friede instinctively curled into a ball, arms going up to protect his head as earth and stone fell around him. After what felt like forever, it finally stopped.
It was quiet, the only sounds were his labored breaths, and the occasional creak of the settling wreckage. Friede tried to breathe slowly, to calm the rising panic within his chest but all he got was a mouthful of dust. He coughed and wished he had something to wash out the film lining his teeth.
Once his lungs settled down, Friede remembered that he wasn’t alone.
“You alive?”
“Unfortunately,” Amethio grumbled his response, coming somewhere from his left with a pain laced voice. Friede pushed himself up onto his elbows and tried to squint at the other through his still adjusting vision. He couldn’t see any visible wounds aside from the gash that sluggishly bled from Amethio’s forehead. At the very least it looked like he could move normally again.
Pushing through the sharp spike that came from his left leg, Friede army crawled a few feet away from the pile of rubble that temporarily separated them from that dangerous Pokemon still screeching in anger. Once he neared a tarp covered box, he used it as leverage to pull himself up into a sitting position, gasping from both exertion and pain.
With his legs spread out in front of him, Friede knew his left ankle was at least twisted, at worst outright broken. He supposed no good deed goes unpunished.
“Why did you do that?” As if sensing his thoughts, Amethio hissed out. In the dim lighting, Friede just about made out his angry, somewhat confused scowl. “We would’ve made it. You foolishly got yourself hurt because you tried to play the hero.”
“A thank you would’ve been nice,” Friede replied, sporting a wry grin. He released a slow breath afterwards. “But to answer your question, don’t know. Body just reacted.”
He truly didn’t have an answer for it. Friede saw danger and his first reaction was to keep Amethio out of harm’s way. He’d likely do that for anyone, really. That was just his nature; to fiercely guard and protect those around him, which apparently included Amethio at that moment.
For a bit, no words passed between them. His silence was based on breathing through the pain while Amethio’s appeared cold, maybe contemplative even. The screeching had stopped for the time being so that Moltres probably gave up. Hopefully. Friede wondered if its rage would prompt it to cause the entire mine to collapse.
“...where are you hurt?” Amethio’s question caught him by surprise. Friede fought to mask it, instead raising an eyebrow at the cool gaze settling upon him.
“Left ankle. Probably twisted it,” he replied. Friede instinctively tensed up at Amethio’s approach, hand twitching to the Pokeball that held his injured Charizard. To his continued surprise, the teen crouched in front of his stretched out legs.
“Hey, watch it!” Friede yelped at the initial touch on his boot, the slight jostle causing a flare up of pain. Amethio briefly paused, then continued to ease his boot out in a gentler manner. He didn’t think the other had it in him to be mindful honestly.
Friede gritted his teeth through the careful probing. Even he could tell it felt swollen and tender, nevermind the pain that sparked up from the affected area.
“This needs a splint,” Amethio spoke up after several minutes of silence. He stood up from his crouched position, making a brief sweep of his surroundings. “Those broken beams over there should suffice for now. The only thing left is some kind of cloth to wrap them around your leg and keep them in place.”
Friede considered Amethio’s words. He didn’t expect this level of cooperation but he supposed desperate times called for desperate measures. He shouldn’t look a gift Rapidash in the mouth so he dipped a hand into his pocket, pulling out a small pocket knife.
“Here. Should be able to use this to cut strips from the tarp covering this box. You’d have an easier time doing it than me right now,” he explained, handing the item to Amethio.
Amethio didn’t reach out to grab it, not at first. Friede found himself at the other end of a slightly incredulous gaze.
“What? My arm’s getting sore.”
“You’d hand me a blade that I can point at you?”
Well, considering their usual dynamics, Friede supposed he understood his confusion. He wasn’t too keen about it himself but he banked on what he knew of Amethio’s character from the various times they clashed.
“I mean, I don’t think you’re the sort who’d stab a guy when he’s down. Too easy of a win for you, no?”
For a moment, Friede wondered if he messed up at the sudden shift in Amethio’s expression. He looked downright annoyed now, his right eye twitching ever so slightly. Did he incite the teen to actually stab him?
Before Friede could store away the knife, Amethio swiped it from his grasp. He sidestepped him to yank at the tarp, pulling it off the box.
“Hold onto this corner and keep it taut,” Amethio all but ordered. Deciding to not push his luck, Friede did as he was told. Soon, they had various haphazard strips that should fit their purposes.
Amethio dropped the knife by Friede’s side instead of nicely handing it back to him. A tad rude but hey, definitely better than fending himself off from angry stabs. Amethio soon returned to his side with a couple of broken support beams, roughly in the size they needed to make a temporary splint.
Friede remained still while Amethio set about in placing the planks on both sides of his left leg. He sort of tuned out the entire process, mostly thinking about where Amethio got this knowledge from. Did he get injured often? As strong as Amethio was in battles, Friede was aware that he didn’t look that much older than Liko and Roy.
Why was someone as young as him a part of the Explorers? He’d entertain that thought from time to time, admittedly. Whose orders did he follow that he’d chase them from Kanto? Friede was certain that he faced off a different Explorer back in Paldea. It just wasn’t Amethio’s style to resort to trickery and subterfuge. He could have easily went after Liko and Roy when they were separated from him instead of opting to battle.
“...there. How does that feel?” Amethio’s question drew him back to the present. Friede blinked, eyes glancing down at the makeshift splint.
“Doesn’t feel too tight. Thanks,” he replied after carefully moving his leg. That should help keep his leg stabilized until he gets his ankle properly treated.
Friede leaned back against the box, took a few deep breaths before looking up at Amethio's quiet gaze. He extended a hand towards the other. "Help me up? Don't know about you but I'd like to find a way out of here."
Amethio eyed his hand like it was something foul but he did grasp it. After a bit of awkward maneuvering, Friede got to his feet, putting minimal pressure on his bad ankle by leaning his weight against Amethio. Instead of shoving him off, the teen simply mimicked his earlier position by wrapping an arm around his waist while one of Friede's arms was draped across Amethio's shoulders.
"Guess our only choice is to go down there and hope it'll lead to an exit," Friede stated, vaguely gesturing to the path that wasn't blocked off by debris and rubble.
"It'll lead to an open chamber with multiple paths. One of them is an exit," Amethio replied, already making the first move to get him walking.
"Huh." Friede would've asked where his confidence came from but then he recalled Amethio coming out from this tunnel earlier. He couldn't help but wonder for just how long the Explorers kept an eye on them. The very moment they landed in Galar? Friede wanted to keep a low profile by traveling on foot but that seemed to be a bust since Amethio found him all the way here.
Initially, it took them a few tries to find a way where the height difference and Friede's awkward gait didn't impede their pace. Once they found a rhythm, thus began a slow yet steady walk down the mostly dim tunnel. His eyes had since adjusted, and after a few minutes, he spotted a pinprick of light in the distance.
"Oh good, looks like we're close. Usually people say 'don't go into the light!' but in our case, it's a blessing, yeah?" Friede chattered on, having done so for the past minute since he didn't like how the silence settled on his skin.
"A head injury would be preferable if it gets you to shut up." Amethio didn't give him a response before but it seemed that he was really getting on his nerves now.
"Oof, a lil' harsh." There might be a hint of a pout to his voice but Friede got the message. He didn't know whether Amethio was above just dropping him like a sack of potatoes so he kept his mouth shut until their claustrophobic surroundings opened up to a larger chamber.
It looked similar to the one they were fighting in before with the same tunnels that led to who knows where. Amethio led them down to the leftmost one, presumably the mineshaft he came in from before.
Friede couldn't tell how much time had passed. His entire body slowly became one giant ache as he hobbled along, hating the stiffness from the makeshift splint. The edges rubbed against his leg in a way that was noticeable even through the fabric of his trousers. He kept reminding himself that this was necessary even if he wanted nothing more than to get it off.
Had he been a lesser person, seeing the light at the end of this tunnel would've reduced him to tears. At last, fresh air once they properly exited the mines. Friede wasn't the claustrophobic sort usually but seeing greenery and open space around him, not to mention breathing in dust free air nearly made him crash in relief.
Amethio led him to a nearby tree. Once Friede had a hand on the trunk, the teen swiftly released him like he couldn't stand being pressed close for even a second longer. He watched Amethio dust himself off, futile as it was. Both of them looked like they just crawled out of the ground.
"Don't forget to get that treated," Friede found himself speaking up, tipping his head at the now dried blood that caked Amethio's upper brow.
He received a blank stare for that. "Duly noted. Take your own unwanted advice."
Well, he supposed that since they were free, all false niceties were off the table. Not that Amethio put much effort in keeping his disdain hidden. They had to work together under unexpected circumstances. Now that the threat no longer loomed over their heads, they returned to their previous dynamic of being enemies.
"I'd love to continue our previous battle but–take a rain check for it, yeah? Promise I'll give it everything I got next time."
There will be a next time. So long as Amethio chased after the pendant, they will inevitably clash. Such was the nature for them who stood on opposite ends.
(Sometimes Friede did wonder how it'd be like if Amethio had been an ally instead. Perhaps they'd get along better, or maybe even be friends).
Amethio didn't respond. Instead, he turned around and released his Corviknight.
"Huh, forgot you had that mon," Friede mused. Seeing their fiery opponent (both figuratively and literally), he supposed Amethio didn't want to pit his Steel-type against it earlier.
Friede watched as the teen swiftly got onto his Corviknight. Before his flier took off, Amethio briefly glanced back at him.
"Prepare yourself," was all he said prior to the Corviknight becoming airborne. Friede stared at the pair until they flew out of sight.
With a deep sigh, he allowed his shoulders to slump. Exhaustion and pain weighed him down in different measures. He made a quick swipe at his face, took in a measuring breath before releasing his Charizard.
His partner was quick to growl its worry. The time spent in its Pokeball allowed the Fire-type a bit of recovery room but they wouldn't be winning any battles until Charizard got properly treated.
"Hey, sorry for worrying you. I'm fine–well, I will be," Friede quickly amended at Charizard's pointed look to his makeshift splint. He gave his starter a few good scratches underneath his chin.
"Do you think you can give me a lift back to Motostoke? I think the kids would bring Cap there. Just take it nice and easy."
Charizard easily accepted his request. It turned around and lowered itself to the ground, much more than usual to compensate for Friede's current state. He winced from all the jostling but soon, he sat as comfortably as he could on Charizard's back.
Slowly, as if testing his wings, Charizard gave a few flaps. It became stronger, and then they were airborne.
As Friede settled down during their slow flight back to Motostoke, his mind went back to the Moltres back in the mines. Seeing that it was likely connected to the Lucius, they very well couldn't leave it alone. Liko and Roy wouldn't want to leave a mystery like this unsolved, nor did he.
Well Friede didn't plan on facing it unprepared. He might come back on crutches but he was determined to have the upper hand next time. He fished out his Rotom Phone, dialing a number until it connected.
"Friede? What is it?"
"Hey Dot. So, long story short, I need your help in looking into something for me…"

Amethio is emotionally neglected.
An analysis from a neglected person standpoint.
Wo hoo another post about the little shit, yaay.
Anywho, this time its not me being super angry and ranting, instead I will psychoanalyse the boy and give out him diagnosis.
Analysis post under the line
So, I believe that Amethio is heavily emotionally neglected by Gibeon. I'll explain in a bit how he shows it.
So I'll begin with his beef with Friede. Yes, I will talk about it again like I didn't already do that several times, Shh.
Here I want to start from, well, start of their conflicts. Episode 2, first conversation. Amethio says that Friede is... Wait, lemme see... khe khe, "Oh, Friede? I heard of you being a great trainer." That means he sees Friede as someone who has experience and who's respectable. That will be important later.
So, first battle, the air ship, all that. Friede sends out a Pikachu, and Amethio is immediately annoyed. I think the main reason is that he wants to have a true validation of his skills, hence why he reacted that way. Seeing Friede, someone he thinks is a professional, send out a Pikachu, a pokemon often seen weak, looks like a mokery to him.
It also goes further and weaves itself into all their incounters - the want to be acknowledged and taken seriously. With each episode, it escalates and escalates, showing out Amethios' bad traits along the line - impatience, easy irration, and often distraction from the main mission.
The tension finally snaps at episode 25, where in their 6th encounter, they finally finish the battle, and Friede takes the win. And where Friede says, "I have to take you seriously." This hurts Amethio so much that in the next arc, he starts to train to become more powerful. He even appears in an opening, training himself to an exhaustion.
All of this highlights really heavily that Amethio always tried to find a validation of his battle skills [ and by excention, him in general ] in these fights, hence why he always was irrated by Friede not paying full attention - "Look at me!", "Don't be distracted!". All of this points to me that he doesn't receive it oftenthsys why he jumps into the opportunity to have this attention.
And this is the first sign of emotional neglect! The attention seeking behavior.
It's clear that Gibeon does not give him enough attention, as he's trying his best to give everything to him and only disobeys the orders to catch Rayquaza / Terapagos for Gibeon. All of Amethios' actions are for him, which indicates to me that he's trying to get at least a lick of affection from him [ aka a validation that he did a good job ].
And it's also seen in Hambers' actions towards the boy! Unlike Diana, who's parallel he is, he's cold towards Amethio and practically emotionless, only doing what he needs to do. He also doesn't even use his name, only honorifics "Master."
All of this translates to his behavior, too, and shows another sign:
The masking of emotions & anger issues.
These two go hand in hand in Amethio, as he tries his very best to hide any case of emotion. But this mask is also really weak and fragile, as it shatters under any pressure, as it showcased in his fights with Friede.
Even in episode 2, the beginning, he already showed how his mask is easily slipping with irritation [ his eye twitching when Friede sends out Pikachu ]. He always tries to be cold, just like Hamber and Gibeon, but because he also desperately needs aknowledgement, it does not work. He becomes impulsive and starts to go more by emotions than reason, as it is evidenced by him always prioritizing a fight rather than going by the misson, episode 6 being an exception ( And even then he still doing this cause Friede didnt pay him enough attention 💀).
He tries to mimick his parential figures by being emotionless but ultimately heavily fails at it because he does not have an outlet for his emotion, nor affection to actually release all the tension in his mind, hence why the mask is so fragile and he is easily irrated.
From that its goes into another problem:
Closing off from any support from other adults.
And in this part comes in his relationship with Zir and Conia, and how he doesn't let himself be weak in front of them.
Throughout the whole anime, it can be seen how much both of them are worried for the boy. Hell, its even got into one of the promotional material, where they even when cut by a comic barrier, still look at Amethio, concerned. But Amethio does not let them know about his mental state, as evidenced by Zirs "Its so hard to talk to him lately."
It seems that Amethio never let his guard down, resulting in him being tense all the time. Even when Zir and Conia genuinely care for him, he rejects all of this affection, still trying to chase the one from Gibeon. It makes me believe that Amethio idolizes Gibeon and thinks of him as the only trustful source of care.
Which of course makes everything worse for him in turn, as Gibeon does not give him anything and just makes him work, which makes him become more and more tense.
It even starts to project into his battle style, as he gone from calculated actions to a desperate attempts to do something [ which is also a sign of being neglected, yahoo ]
Anywho, ending this, I'll say - Amethio is a brilliantly written character, I love love love the writing team behind the Horizons. The way he's obviously abused is so clearly seen that it almost pains me as someone who has also been neglected in childhood.
And also, dont take this post way too seriously - it's written without any serious research whatsoever, and mostly is me speaking from experience and observations.
I hope you had a nice read!
...
[Me: Amethio is a 3-dimensional character with a lot of thought behind him. Also me: He-he, he's literally this meme:]

So hear me out, fem [it's ok if you prefer gn] reader that is like a second in command of the RVT's meeting her past rival Spinel while on that whole 'spinel took the pendant but not even a week later an green cat took it from him' scenario
Like when she arrived at the ship started having an argument with him in front of the trio after that whole fiasco because he brought up that she lost in their last battle back then
Spinel x Past Rival!Reader | Headcannons & Drabble
Tumblr media
I do apologise, I didn't quite understand your request at the start, and I don't know how to write arguing scenes,,
You and Spinel have been rivals since- well- forever.
Over time, as the two of you grew older, the rivalry only intensified, with him doing illegal activities just to get a step ahead of you.
Your Eevee evolved into an Espeon? Great, his Eevee evolved into an Umbreon.
You got a water type? He got a magneton.
Despite all this, you've managed to defeat him half of the time, even a bit more than that.
The last battle the two of you had was when you two were in your mid teens. You were going after champion rank and he was there- because- he's your rival!! That's what rivals do, get in your way.
Despite you mostly wining against him, he won the final battle before the two of you eventually lost contact.
Not too long after the two of you lost contact, you joined the RVT and he joined the Explorers.
The RVT was your second home, and later became your main home as you became second in command.
Being second in command, you had to make sure everyone was okay whilst Friede wasn't on board,
In all honesty, you forgot about Spinel, the two of you haven’t seen each other in a good few years now, and even though he was a strong rival, he slipped your mind, you had more important things to worry about like making sure Liko, Roy and Dot are okay.
Sometimes you swore the trio were a magnet for trouble, but it didn't matter, you still cared about them.
The day Liko went missing, you couldn’t help but blame yourself, you let Liko go alone, unsupervised.
You and the gang found Liko a day later in Levincia of all places which confused you to no ends, how was she there? Why was she there?
You had so many unanswered questions, but they didn't matter as she was safe.
But the one thing you immediately noticed was that her precious Pendant was stolen (alongside her memories that she got back later).
It wasn't until you were faced with an Umbreon that you suddenly remembered Spinel,
(No, getting jumped in an alley by a Magneton and a Beheeyem somehow didn't remind you of him),
"Go Umbreon. I do apologise that you have to fight some weak opponents,"
Memories flashed in your mind.
You knew that Umbreon.
It was the same Umbreon who stood proudly after Spinel had defeated you before you could fight the Elite 4.
"I'm especially sorry for sending you out to battle y/n, you know how weak they are,"
Spinel's voice rang in your ears as his Umbreon let out a low growl, remembering your Espeon from battle, resulting in your partner pokémon letting out a snarl of its own.
"Remember what happened at the league? You thought you were so prepared to face the Elite 4,? But you couldn't even beat your own rival?" Spinel taunted.
Oh how you wished you could wipe that stupid smirk off his face.
"I've grown. I've become a better trainer with my pokémon." Your protests fall short as Spinel laughs again. His disbelief annoying you to no ends.
"You're still using that weak little Espeon of yours, you know it doesn't stand a chance against my Umbreon."
The fur on your Espeon's back stood up. She never liked being compared to the Umbreon which by all means was understandable, with the dark type not being affected by her typing's moves.
"She isn't weak. She's won against your Umbreon!"
"Like what? Two times out of the many? Don't be so delusional."
You could feel Liko's worried gaze on you as you tried to think of something, anything to talk back.
"Umbreon, use dark pulse."
"Espeon, dodge!"
Another cackle came can be heard from the probably-still-teal haired man.
"If you're so strong. Why are you scared of a dark pulse,?"
Gritting your teeth you flex your fingers, glancing around to try and find a way to use your sorroundings to your advantage.
"Espeon! Use Dazzling Gleam!"
Without even a word spoken, the Umbreon effortlessly doged it.
Letting out a hiss, your Espon jumped back to your side, glaring at her foe.
"You're still the same inexperienced trainer,"

Pokemon Horizons Episode 45 Review - The End Of The Second Chapter
What a great way to end the second chapter! The raid battle against Rayquaza was intense but great! Liko, Roy and Dot show off their improved battling tactics alongside Friede and Amethio, who shows up unexpectedly after his colleagues retreated. Just seeing the fruits of their hard work from Amethio mastering Terastal to Liko and Roy battling so competently without the need of Friede’s handholding to Liko’s Sprigatito evolving into Floragato, a rare occurrence for Grass-type starters.
Tumblr media
The battle between the Trainers and Rayquaza was really good. I loved how Friede chose to split them up as he took Roy and Fuecoco with him and left Cap with Liko and Dot so that he could command him to use Volt Tackle to launch up Quaxly and Fuecoco in the air. The way Roy even landed a hit on Rayquaza with Disarming Voice was so cool to see! When Amethio comes into the fray, he shows off his Tera Ghost Ceruledge and the double battle with him and Tera Dark Charizard was so cool! I can see why the kids want to learn Terastal now.
Tumblr media
I was very surprised that the writers would allow Sprigatito to evolve into Floragato. Usually, the anime writers have a severe allergy towards making Grass-type starters evolve. Since Black and White, Ash’s Snivy never evolved; Clemont’s Chespin never evolved; Ash’s Rowlett ate an Everstone and couldn’t evolve; Goh’s Grookey didn’t evolve. I was expecting the same thing to happen to Liko’s Sprigatito, but the writers actually went beyond my low expectations. I have hopes that the same will happen for Roy and Dot and that all three kids will get their Starters to be fully evolved later on. Fuecoco also learns Flame Charge. It’s nice to see Fuecoco learning all sorts of moves. I do wonder when he’ll evolve. Maybe in ten episodes?
Tumblr media
I’m glad that the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers are okay after the major damage the airship took. I do worry about Carkoal’s safety as it’s not present with the other evacuated airship Pokemon. Hopefully, it’s just safe in the engine room as it does look quite heavy to be evacuated safely (yet they were able to move a Nosepass with ease). Because it will take a while for the airship to repair, their adventures come to a halt here. Since the kids will attend school, I do wonder what the adults will do. Will they take up jobs nearby and meet up with the kids occasionally?
The Explorers section was quite interesting. Gibeon tells them to lay low and wait for the Rising Volt Tacklers to get the Six Heroes and then take them from them. That sounds like a solid plan for now. He also wants them to monitor Terapagos and Liko. Uh-oh. The fact that Gibeon knows Lucius, which means that he is most likely aware that she is his descendant. A glimpse of Gibeon is seen towards the end. He has white and black hair, but in a different pattern from Amethio. I’m assuming they’re related, but as ancestor and descendant as Gibeon isn’t supposed to be alive in this era. I’m convinced he’s an AI. He also has a Shiny 10% Zygarde, meaning that Legends Z-A lore will be implemented in the near future, or it’s just an easter egg for the upcoming game. I’m also wondering why Spinel smirked at the end before being dismissed from the meeting. He seems to have more ambitious goals, so I’m curious what his deal is—and it’s not because he’s my favorite or anything, okay?
Tumblr media
Overall, the Terapagos’s Shine chapter was a good arc. It was nice seeing progression for Liko and Roy as they grow from novices to more experienced trainers. I can’t wait to see how they will grow with Dot once they study about Terastal at Orange Academy. In fact, I can’t wait to see their school adventures! What are your thoughts on the second chapter now that it ended? Are you anticipating the third chapter?

Elaboration on the Cainhurst Siblings Headcanon
I remember now that my idea for Maria and Bloody Crow being siblings was something just for fun when comparing their in-game designs, connections, and battles, but there was also one of those “Oh shit, FromSoft may be recycling ideas again…” moments too. I mean, they absolutely do and I still feel like this was no coincidence.
Tumblr media
This is from my old post from last year or whatever, but let’s just recap the obvious here…Bloodborne had a lot of prototype ideas for Dark Souls 3, or at least…that’s my guess. They were clearly being developed around the same time, since BB was released in 2015 and DS3 in 2016.
Remember how the alpha version of DS3 and the city of Lothric in particular was all very Bloodbornesque and gothic? They changed it last minute probably because the influence was so obvious. There are other weird connections like this too, and the Maria/Friede similarities are no exception.
If you watch those VS battles on YouTube where we see Maria and Friede’s move-sets, they are undeniably linked. Maria was probably the beta version of Friede in a sense. She technically has three phases, starting with pure dex and swordsmanship, then moving onto the “enhanced” blood phase, and then ending with the full-blown fire and blood chaos.
Friede does the same, except with embers and eventual blackflame. Both of these women also did not want to use those final powerbombs though, because for Maria…it’s a sacrifice of humanity, and for Friede, it’s a sacrifice of the shelter she has created. Her painted world isn’t supposed to see flame.
Friede also seems to have the firstborn daughter syndrome of fearing failure to the point of desperation. She already let Londor down by being unable to usurp the flame, and part of me wonders if her story involved more guilt than is let on. Could she have abandoned Londor for shame? But…why not just keep trying to usurp after being turned to ash? I suspect Friede may have realized that Londor had some pretty questionable agendas and tried to redeem herself in the Painted World.
It’s so similar to Maria watching over the Research Hall patients (despite their misery) out of a desire to make up for what happened at the Hamlet. She is trying to do good, but she also is not helping anyone and still tries to bury the sins of her past. If she’s a parallel to Friede, I also think that’s why it would make so much sense if she were another tormented firstborn daughter with a heavy weight on her shoulders.
That’s when the siblings came in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The design similarities are obvious. The raven/crow aesthetic of Yuria’s helmet is even more blatant than the Cainhurst visor, but Bloody Crow himself makes up for it with his crow-garb. They both ended up looking like armored ravens.
Yuria is dedicated to the place her elder sister abandoned with a noticeable zeal. Londor is her everything. Kaathe is her idol. She’s willing to commit strong acts of cruelty to advance her goals and is undeniably a character with some pretty grey morals.
She evens asks that we kill one of our own friends (Orbeck) in the middle of her questline because apparently he is trying to take Londor’s throne for himself. We ourselves know this definitely isn’t true, but Yuria doesn’t care. Something about this implies she is lying to us just to sneakily get rid of the guy, probably because it’s personal.
So, we have our white-haired raven girl in service to her ostracized people and lord, who is openly manipulating us to complete her goals, and shares some kind of implied rivalry with one of our “friend” characters—sound somewhat familiar? Mayyybe?
Bloody Crow is explained all via context, but apart from his similarity to Yuria in design, he ALSO is oddly familiar to Maria herself. He’s the only hunter besides us that uses what is very likely her bone to quicken, he is implied to be from Cainhurst, but only halfway because of his blended attire/faction (like Maria), and his strength is something you can’t just brush off, which gives him the feel of being a much older hunter from Maria and Gehrman’s generation.
Really, he and Maria are the only Cainhurst hunters we seem to fight in-game that have actual connections to other characters, that stand out as especially powerful beings.
Arianna is no hunter, False Iosefka may have come from Cainhurst but clearly had more association with the the Choir, and that one random Cainhurst knight in the dungeons is…not tied to anything in particular?
Maria and Crow are stand-outs if we’re going by Cainhurst’s legacy, is what I am saying. Besides Annalise, they are seemingly the only remnants of their culture that actually indicate the true strength of their people.
Who else laid claim to such reputation? The Londor sisters.
Both Maria and Friede abandoned their people/homes, devoted themselves to “aiding” others in a secluded haven after a great failure, both became associated with an older male figure that they fight alongside, and both harbor some darker power that they don’t ignite until absolutely necessary.
Yuria and Crow are the dark, raven-warriors with red katanas in service to the lord/queen of the nation their counterparts abandoned, they share rivalries with characters the protagonist is meant to befriend, they wield exceptional strength but not the same level of power as Friede/Maria, and they both seem to have questionable agendas.
In conclusion, I suspect that Maria was the first Friede and Bloody Crow was a prototype for Yuria. Both character concepts were further developed in DS3, and in that case, the siblings theory for Crow/Maria would make sense. Now we just gotta fill in the blanks.
All this overcomplicated drivel to say that I like the idea of Bloody Crow being Maria’s younger, fully-related brother and have for a while now and this is not news to literally anybody lmao.

The opening is ok. Sounds more like something Disney would have as an opening ngl but it’s also not as bad as people make it out to be. Seriously guys, you can just… skip the opening if you don’t like it? It’s not like they be strapping you down to a chair and forcing you to watch it on repeat 🫥
There’s crystal turtle
Ok this falling off buildings/jumping is getting old. I’m sorry but I have to say it. Please tell me this doesn’t happen often after the first few episodes
Liko really likes the moon. Wouldn’t she work better as a SM protagonist since one of the legends is literally a moon Pokémon thing? /j. But hey, maybe that means we get Lunala content 👀
Ok I like Murdock’s voice
“Who are you people?” “Why, we are the people who have been stalking your school and fellow classmates!”
Fuecoco! Fuecoco! It’s the little guy! I guess Fuecoco will have to substitute for Oshawott’s absence
Aw little cuties pooties <3. If there’s one thing this new series has kept, it’s keeping the Pokémon adorable as fuck. I want one! 😭
ARE WE SERIOUSLY ALMOST HALFWAY THROUGH THIS EPISODE TOO?! Why are these rushing through the hell
Can’t tell if Snorunt is shaking because that’s it natural thing to do or if it’s scared but either way I will protect you!
YOO CAP! Let’s go!
Oh yes, we must head into the fucking thunderstorm. Bro I would rather go back to school than stick with these adrenaline junkies 😭
Fuecoco “helping” out Charizard 🥹
Does Murdock have Corsola branches on his shirt? Or are they supposed to be flames? Either way I like his overall love. Congratulations Murdock, you may be my next favorite character! 🥳👏🏻
Cute eye catchers. I’m not ready to say goodbye to Liko’s school uniform. It’s an underrated look and I honestly think I like it better than her casual look
The poor Pokémon! I want to comfort them! 😭 Am I really about to cry over them? Maybe…
Classic main character doing the main character thing and giving themselves up. Please writers, don’t let Liko become a mary sue
Friede sounds like a dad. And I don’t mean because of his personality I mean because he sounds like he’s peaking mid 40s
Yay badass ceruledge is back! Man I sure hope he doesn’t become a constant punching bag alongside his trainer 🙃
Trainers: *recklessly battling*
Move: *misses and hits something that could have serious consequences*
Trainers: *shocked cap pikachu*
Damn Sprig is pissed at Liko. Wait.. Liko has been lying to herself? About what? I’m so confused and this is only episode two dear lord
Am I the only one who would save the Pokémon instead of the person? .-.
Ok and that’s the end of episode two! So my overall thoughts on the show atm is that it’s ok. It has a lot of potential but it’s also rushing a lot and I’m still salty with how they tossed aside Ann and also the school. It wouldn’t have killed them to give it more screen time and have Liko learn stuff there but that’s just me. Also feel I need to say this but these are just my opinions on the show and stuff. Please don’t kill me. See you guys next time for episodes 3 and 4!

Professor Friede's Laboratory
This is a fic that I started writing a while ago. It's a loose backstory for Friede. It's recently been announced that we're getting a proper backstory for Friede and Captain Pikachu in this weeks episode, so it makes more sense to post this now rather than later lol Thank you so much for reading!!
A03:
Summary
When Friede has an unexpected visit from a friend, he begins to reflect on his life choices.
Professor Friede's Laboratory Sunlight fell through the curtains, illuminating the right side of Friede's face. He fidgeted in his swivel chair. On the far side of the laboratory, the grandmother clock counted down to midday. The professor turned to his pokemon. Pikachu sat on the windowsill, watching the traffic waver past. "Pika", the pokemon said affectionately, before climbing onto Friede's lap. Before his mind wandered any further, Friede opened his packed lunch. He was in a strange state of feeling hungry but having little appetite. Still, he had to eat. He looked at the clock again. At 1:00pm, he would start filing paperwork. At 2:00pm, he would type up his research findings from the weekend. The rose-patterned wallpaper swamped the room like a never-ending forest. Sometimes, it felt as if the walls were caving in on him.
Friede was finishing his wrap, when a knock came from the door. He rushed over to answer, with Pikachu in pursuit. Orla stood in the corridor, dressed in a floral blouse and baggy jeans. "Long time no see?!" she exclaimed. "Orla, hi!" said Friede, half surprised, as a wave of relief washed over him. Orla hugged him, nearly knocking him off balance. "I thought you were travelling?" Friede asked as they parted. "I wanted to take a break. It's nice to be back... and how are you, Pikachu?" Orla stroked the electric mouse, as he squealed happily. She paused: "are you busy? I don't want to barge in." Friede looked over to his paperwork. It would wait. He smiled: "don't worry about me, come in!"
Friede made two cups of tea, and they sat in the lounge area. Orla told him about her recent travels. She had not long graduated from university. She was extremely clever, gaining a first in engineering. However, she had always told him how she wanted to see more of the world. Friede, on the other hand, had never left academia. "Anyway, what have you been up to?" Orla continued, sipping her tea. "You know, the usual," Friede replied. "Any new findings?" Pikachu turned to his trainer promptly. "Oh yeah, I've been looking into terrastralisation," Friede remembered. "That's interesting!" "It's a fascinating mechanic. It can change a pokemon's typing completely."
The conversation died down quickly. Friede checked his watch out of habit. It was 1:30pm- but that meant nothing to him. Right now, nothing else mattered. He clenched his fingers.
"Are you okay?" Orla asked. "Yeah, fine," Friede murmured, sitting upright. "Orla," he started, "have you ever thought that there might be more to life than... settling down and getting a job?" Orla laughed: "yeah, that's why I went travelling. Why?" Friede shrugged: "just wondering. Anyway, putting that aside-" Orla talked across him: "Friede, what's wrong? You've been tensed up ever since I got here." Pikachu's ears pricked up at her words. Friede sighed: "I just... I feel couped up all the time, in this lab," he admitted, "I thought this was what I always wanted- to learn more about pokemon." Orla tilted her head, worried: "maybe you need a break. You can't push yourself too hard." "No, it's not like that. I don't know if this job's for me anymore... I want to see more of the world, too. You know all of the adventures we used to go on? I miss that."
Friede needed some air, so Orla suggested going for a walk. The sun was harsh when they left. The paving absorbed the summer heat like a sponge. They visited the beach, which was only ten minutes away from the laboratory. Along the harbour, wingul flocked the masts of each boat. The sea was a simmering shade of turquoise. Friede sometimes became so caught up in his studies, that he didn't spare the time to come here. Suddenly, the pair noticed a familiar boat approaching the shore.
"Old man Ludlow!" Orla exclaimed, waving. The fishing boat pulled up ashore, and a stout man climbed out. It was undoubtedly Ludlow. Whenever Friede was on the seafront, he would see the old man fishing. Despite this, he didn't interact with him very often. Ludlow was a reserved individual, who only spoke when it was important.
"Great to see you!" said Friede, as Ludlow approached them. Pikachu hopped onto Friede's shoulder. "Nice day for fishing, huh?" Orla added, nodding towards the sea. Ludlow stroked his beard: "it certainly is. How are you studies coming along, Friede?" "Swimmingly" Friede quipped. Orla rolled her eyes: "he's researching terrastralisation." "Oh, I see. That's a very mysterious mechanic indeed..." Ludlow began humming to himself.
The sunny atmosphere of the beach was short-lived, as a layer of cloud obscured the light. Gentle drizzle swiftly developed into a downpour. Friede addressed the others: "shall we?" The three retreated to the nearby cafe, which overlooked the harbour. The view of the seafront was glazed with falling droplets. Friede and Pikachu sat opposite Orla and Ludlow, by the cafe window. Each of them, with their own pasts and experiences. The laboratory remained in the back of Friede's mind. He thought of the piles of paperwork which demanded his attention. He did not want to go back. In time, the grey terrain dissolved, revealing the sky again. All of a sudden, Orla pointed: "look!" Sure enough, an airship soared above. Friede had never seen one before. The vessel was a dark shade of blue, which contrasted with the surrounding brightness. It was huge, sporting propellers at either end. Before Friede could comment, the airship moved on, leaving entrails in the clouds behind it.

Hi! What are your favorite and least favorite pokemon human character ships and why?
Thanks for the ask! Oh, that's a tough one... I got quite a few ships I prefer!
In term of favorites, I really like PerfectWorldShipping, ComaShipping... In the new series, I'm really beginning to be a big fan of Liko/Dot and Murdock/Friede. For BW, I adore SourGrapeShipping (Burgundy and Georgia's dynamic is just m w a h) and... Well I kinda appreciate any ship with Trip tbh but I don't exactly have a favorite persay haha—I've been drawing some Trip/Benga stuff lately but I just think it's cute, idk if I'd call it my fave yet. (As for a personal crackship I love it'd be CalmPrinceMegaKnightShipping which is Calem x Alain. All started in rp and escalated) I know it's a lot! I got a lot of other ships, especially in SM that I like but yeah! (of course I've seen the HanaMusa comics and I loooove them sooo much too!!)
As for least... Well, honestly, as disappointing as this might be I don't think I have any I really dislike? I mean, at most I think that AmourShipping is overrated because to me there never really was that much chemistry between Ash and Serena. It felt very one sided. Other than that... I guess I dislike Ash/Latias??? I'm mostly saying that because of one of the last episodes of Ash's series where they seemed to canonize the events from the movie which honestly shocked me (in a "I laughed very loudly in reaction to it" way). But like, I'm fine with it, I just find it weird that it's "sort of" canon?
I'm honestly very open when it comes to ships. I respect everyone's ship, no matter if the characters had 2 seconds of screentime and/or if they never met. I find shipping different characters so fun cause characters bring different personality traits out of the other when interacting! It's one of the reason why I love the romance genre so much: the characters and their relationship changes thanks to their interactions.
Haha I'm sorry if that answer wasn't super clear! What are YOUR favorite ships?

I have a prompt for Friede. He gets sick but he's the last one to notice. Like everyone is taking care of him in their own way.
Thank you very much for sending this prompt! I'm currently sick myself and wrote this all in one go while medicated and sporting a 102F fever. I suppose I just wanted to make him suffer alongside me hhh...
Anyways! Hope it's still an enjoyable read! I think this is the longest piece I've written thus far so I'm pretty proud of it still haha!
Series: Pokemon Horizons
Characters: Friede, Cap, Murdock, Mollie, Orla, Liko, Roy, Ludlow
--
Waking up that morning, Friede found himself struggling to sit up. His body felt heavier than usual, though he supposed that was expected when he took night shift for the past couple of days. Manouvering the ship through a storm, battling strong winds and dipping temperatures took a lot out of someone. At the very least his crew didn’t lose too much sleep over it, especially the children.
Cracking a huge yawn that he barely covered, Friede went through his usual routine at a more sluggish pace. He briefly forgot where he kept his goggles and he almost exited the room without tying up his hair. Cap gave him odd looks throughout it all but aside from a questioning noise, he scampered up his shoulder as he headed to the dining area.
By the time he entered, everyone was in the midst of digging into the wonderful breakfast spread Murdock put out. He barely stifled another yawn when Orla greeted him with, “Morning sleepyhead. Thought you were gonna skip breakfast there.”
“Mm? Nah, I would’t miss it without someone getting on my case about it,” he replied with a cheeky little grin at Mollie, who merely raised an eyebrow at him. Friede ignored her sudden interest as he took a seat at the end of the table.
Friede wasted no time in pouring himself a mug of coffee. With how tired he felt, he needed a bit more caffeine in his system. The first sip made him pause, and he pulled the mug away to scrutinize the dark liquid.
“Hey Murdock, did you use a different coffee blend?”
Murdock looked up from his own plate. “Hm? Nah, it’s always been the same. Why, it tastes weird to you or something?”
Huh, if nothing changed, he supposed it was his taste buds being weird for some reason. Oh well, nothing that he couldn’t drink. Friede gave an airy wave that made Murdock stare at him for awhile longer before he passed the bread basket to Roy.
With a half mug of coffee in him, Friede found himself lacking a bit of appetite which he chalked up to his tired state. His stomach felt a little weird after a piece of toast and a few berries so he decided to stop before any accident could occur.
“That’s all you’re eating?” Orla commented as he drained the rest of his mug.
“Yeah. Guess I’m not as hungry as I thought,” he replied, once again stifling a jaw cracking yawn. As he rubbed his eye with a finger, he missed the way his crew exchanged glances with one another.
“You feeling alright?” Murdock asked, sounding oddly cautious.
“Yeah, probably just all those late nights catching up. Nothing that going to sleep earlier tonight couldn’t fix.”
Suddenly feeling a little stifled from the attention he garnered, Friede stood up from his chair–placing a hand on the back of it to steady himself through a brief wave of lightheadness.
“Hey–”
“I’ll catch you guys later then,” he spoke quickly, flashing them all his usual smile before turning on his heel to exit the dining area. Cap quickly finished his own food, cheeks stuffed and then dashed after him.
That was a little weird, admittedly. His crew stared at him like he had two heads at the end. Couldn’t figure out why but oh well, maybe that was a one time thing. Friede paused to allow Cap a chance to settle on his shoulders again. It was his turn to do some chores today so he might as well get to it now if he wanted to nap later.
After he cleared the table and washed the dishes with Roy’s help, Murdock went to the cabinet to pull out a tea caddy. He opened the lid to check what blends he still had left. Only he, Liko and Mollie really enjoyed tea while the rest were coffee drinkers (or in Roy’s case, a Tapu Cocoa fiend). He rarely made tea for those outside their little group but he figured it was necessary today.
Murdock knew that Friede wasn’t feeling well. If his sluggish nature wasn’t a tell, then his lack of appetite spoke of an uneasy stomach. While Friede couldn’t match Roy’s huge appetite (typical for a growing boy and one where Murdock encouraged), the good captain usually ate his fill before going about his day.
The chef took out the honey jar as well as a half cut lemon from the fridge. While he waited for the water to boil, he took out a red thermos from a different cabinet. Rarely used seeing that he was more than happy to make the crew something from scratch but one that should fit his purpose right now.
Within twenty minutes, he exited the kitchen with the thermos in hand, filled with a blend specifically made for uneasy stomachs. Murdock found Friede and Cap quickly enough; it was his turn to mop the deck, which he found him to do with slow, sluggish swipes.
Swallowing down the flare of concern, Murdock called out, “Hey Friede!”
Friede nearly dropped the mop in surprise but he straightened up with a tighter grip, then turned around to regard him with a semblance of a pout.
“What’s with the attempted heart attack so early in the morning?” he grumbled. Another check towards his unwell state was him being a little testier than usual.
“Sorry. I just wanted to give you something. Here you go.” Murdock handed Friede the red thermos. At the questioning look, he gave a disarming smile, keeping his voice light. “It’s honey lemon tea. I’m slowly using up what we have left before we restock in a few days.”
“Okay? Thanks I guess.” Murdock knew him well enough to not take the somewhat dismissive response to heart. Likely confused when his brain wasn’t running on all cylinders, not to mention the choice of beverage given. Coffee or Tapu Cocoa were the go-to more than a whole thermos of tea.
“No problem. I’d appreciate if you could give it a try later and give me some feedback on it. Wanted to see if the ratio I put works or not,” he added. By framing it this way, Friede would find himself obligated to do so, which Murdock hoped involved him taking a break whilst drinking it.
“Yeah sure.”
“Right, I’ll leave you to it. I’ll see you around lunch then.” Murdock didn’t stick around after that. Had he tried to push more, Friede might get defensive, stubbornly loveable fool that he was. The chef decided to make a hearty soup for lunch to see if his captain could stomach it later.
“What’s on your mind Liko?” Roy’s question startled the girl out of her thoughts. She jumped a little in her seat, spooking Sprigatito who fell off her lap in turn. She spent a few minutes apologizing to her starter before answering Roy, who looked a bit guilty after that.
“I’m sorry for startling you. I didn’t think you were so out of it,” he apologized, hugging Fuecoco tighter to his chest.
“N-No it’s fine! I was… mm, I was thinking about earlier.” Liko replied, shifting to the side so Roy could take a seat seeing that she piqued his interest.
“What about earlier?”
“You know… how tired Friede looks.” Having been a part of the Rising Volt Tacklers for awhile now, Liko had time to observe the crew’s habits and behavior, storing everything into her little mental file cabinet. She knew that Friede’s sluggishness was unusual for the seemingly upbeat guy. At least, he’d try to hide if he felt off on account to avoid worrying others.
“I guess you’re right. I don’t think I’ve seen him yawn so much during breakfast! That’s usually my thing!”
Liko giggled at his words, though her expression drooped into a more thoughtful one. “Yes, which is why I think he’s not feeling 100% right now. And he’s either not admitting it or he doesn’t think much on why he’s feeling so tired. A-At least that’s what I think.”
Roy tilted his head, so much so that Liko could practically see the gears turning. “I think you’re right. I remember Orla mentioning once that he’s a stubborn, lovable oaf of a man that thinks he needs to shoulder everything himself!”
She blinked in surprise at that. She hummed, fiddling with a lock of her hair. “I-I see. I think you should avoid mentioning that to either of them…”
“Hm? Yeah, alright.” Roy hugged his Fuecoco once more. “So… do you think we should help him?”
Liko nodded, swinging her legs. “Yeah! I think we should! Maybe he’d feel better if he gets some more rest. It’s his turn to do most of the chores today I believe.”
“We can help him out with that so he can go take a nap or something.” Roy had a huge grin on his lips, hopping up from his seat. “What are we waiting for?”
Liko quickly got up to join him, leaving Sprigatito to curl up and nap on the couch for the time being. The two kids hunted down their mentor until they spotted him carrying a basket of laundry, heading towards the back of the ship where they hung them out to air dry.
“Hey Friede!” Roy called out. Liko saw the way Friede startled, almost dropping the basket before his grip tightened at the last second. She quickly joined Roy to stand at his side.
“Liko, Roy,” he began slowly, eyes narrowing slightly. “Did you need something?”
The kids exchanged a quick glance before Liko stepped up to answer. “W-We were hoping if we could… um, swap chores today!”
“Yeah!” Roy was quick to follow up, steamrolling through whatever response Friede might have said. “We have plans to do some training tomorrow so we were hoping if we could do our chores today to have some free time tomorrow!”
“Training?” Friede sported a questioning look but Liko took note of the fact that it wasn’t an immediate dismissal.
“Y-Yeah! We… wanted to get more practice on battling so we can help defend our home if stuff happens.”
Liko resisted the urge to squirm from Friede’s assessing gaze. Roy wasn’t as nearly affected but she had a feeling the boy too waited with bated breath for a verdict. At last something in Friede’s eyes softened, and he sighed.
“Well, I guess I can take over your chores tomorrow. Make sure to inform Mollie about the change, alright? Don’t need her coming after my neck for foisting off work onto you two…”
Liko had a feeling that they weren’t supposed to hear that last bit. She chose not to say anything aside from carefully grabbing the laundry basket from him. Friede sighed once more, regarding the pair with a half smile.
“If you want to practice with Cap too, let me know. I’m sure he’d be up for it.”
“Y-Yes, thank you!” she responded, injecting as much enthusiasm into her voice. Liko supposed training was on tomorrow’s agenda. Hopefully Sprigatito would be up for it.
“Yes! Me and Fuecoco are ready for the challenge!”
“Alright, alright.” Friede covered his mouth from an abrupt yawn that sneaked out. He ran his fingers through his hair, then stood up straighter. “If you two need me, I’ll be at the captain’s deck.”
“Okay!” She clamped down the urge to add I hope you’ll feel better soon!
The two kids watched Friede walk away and up the small steps until he disappeared into the room.
“You think he’s going to nap?” Roy asked.
“Mm… I hope so.” Liko eyed the laundry in hand. “Come on, we better go hang this up while the sun’s up.”
“Okay!”
Liko hoped that Friede would feel a little better with some rest, knowing that Roy too shared her sentiment.
Ludlow slowly pushed the door to the captain’s deck open. Peeking his head inside, he found Cap staring inquisitively at him before recognition flashed in his eyes once his gaze landed onto the folded blanket in his arms. The Pikachu raised a paw at him, forming a little thumbs up.
“Don’t mind me,” he uttered softly. Ludlow shuffled his way inside, steps light in comparison to the soft snores escaping the young captain’s lips. Once he reached the large chair, he took a moment to observe Friede.
Being a fisherman by trade and at heart, he knew to be patient whilst keeping his senses open for even the slightest of changes. Be as still as a calm lake, hand ready to reel in the moment his lure caught something. Ludlow of course applied this in his everyday life, too.
Thus without it being explicitly stated, he knew that the rest of the youngsters were looking after their ill captain. He knew why they’ve yet to outright state it to his face; Friede could be infuriatingly stubborn, insisting that he was fine despite feeling otherwise. Ludlow supposed it matched his ambition at least. One couldn’t have thought of converting his fishing boat into an airship without being strong-willed and just a little eccentric.
Still, he personally believed that there was a time and place for everything. Friede truly was lucky to have such caring people in his life. Ludlow didn’t exactly place himself in that circle, preferring to continue his observation of these youngsters from his spot day in and day out.
Carefully, he unfolded the blanket before draping it over the slumbering captain’s form. Ludlow could do nothing about the rather uncomfortable position he slept in without the risk of waking him up but he did his best to tuck the blanket in. Cap too assisted him, using his paws to tug the blanket higher up.
Friede remained fast asleep throughout it all. Ludlow eventually took a step back, shared a knowing nod with Cap before shuffling his way out of the room.
Orla toiled the morning away within the engine room but her mind drifted every so often towards a certain someone on this ship. She didn’t let any of those thoughts affected her work as she didn’t want to worry the Pokemon that assisted her. By the time she emerged from the hot room around lunch time, she was free to ruminate about that stubborn, loveable oaf they had for a captain.
She knew that Mollie and Murdock shared similar thoughts during Friede’s time at breakfast earlier. All of them knew him well enough to know that he either refused to acknowledge his ill state or he didn’t connect the dots.
Friede was a brilliant man, that Orla won’t deny. His plan to fashion an old fishing boat into an airship was successful mostly due to her work but the layout he presented helped with the foundation. Orla built around his vision until they had a home in the sky, soaring high and free.
As intelligent as he was, the guy could be fairly dense in keeping track of changes to his body. Sometimes he actively hid that fact, believing that he could handle it by himself until one of them had to drag him by the ear to Mollie. Other times, it just didn’t click that maybe, just maybe his body wasn’t feeling all that well.
Orla had a feeling that it leaned more towards the latter this time. He wasn’t as defensive, though his exhaustion may have tempered it down. Regardless, his infuriating stubbornness likely remained, as it won’t even if his brain actively cooked itself. Thus Orla would give him a bit more time to come clean before dragging him to the infirmary.
In the meantime, she went to freshen herself up for lunch. Worrying about that knucklehead made her hungry, so she wasted little time in carving herself a spot at the dining table. Murdock informed them that soup and sandwiches were today’s menu. Orla lacked any doubt that it was in consideration for Friede.
Who, as lunch progressed remained absent. Liko and Roy exchanged glances, while Murdock looked like he wanted nothing more than to get up from his seat. Ludlow and Mollie ate on as usual but she took notice on the way Mollie tapped a finger on the surface, signalling her rising ire and worry.
Orla bit back a sigh. She quickly finished up her meal, then declared to the table that, “I’ll go check up on Friede.”
It felt like the table collective exhaled a relieved breath. Murdock flashed her a grateful smile while the kids exchanged soft smiles with one another. Mollie looked up, quiet but her eyes sent a clearly defined message.
Let me know what happens.
The engineer dipped her head once, then stood up from her chair.
“He was napping in the captain’s deck last time I checked,” Ludlow spoke up, surprising them that he knew in the first place.
“Oh, so he did get some more rest…” She barely picked up on Liko’s muttered words prior to her exit from the dining room. Her steps were collected as she made her way up the steps to the deck.
Orla opted to enter without knocking. Her entrance drew Cap’s attention, who looked a little relieved. Her heart rate sped up slightly as she closed the distance between the door and the captain’s chair.
Taking one look at Friede, she knew why Cap reacted that way. Putting aside the uncomfortable position he fell asleep in, she spotted the dusting of red high on his cheekbones. Sweat dotted his forehead, easily revealing a fever once she pressed the back of her hand against it.
She hated being right in this situation. Orla pulled out her Rotom Phone and sent a quick text to Mollie to prepare the infirmary since she was bringing a fever stricken idiot there within the next ten minutes. After that, she gently placed a hand on Friede’s shoulder and gave it a little shake.
Friede groaned, looking like he was trying to free his arms from the blanket in order to swat her hand away. Orla gave a harder shake, this time punctuating it with, “Hey Friede, come on wake up.”
Eventually hazy yellow eyes opened, and he blinked in confusion for a few seconds before they settled onto her face.
“Orla…?”
“Yeah, it’s me. Come on, I’m taking you to the infirmary. You’re sick,” she stated promptly. Before his ill timed stubbornness kicked in, she needed to make decisions so that he only had time to react and not think.
It took a bit of effort for Orla to pull Friede to his feet. She had to shoulder the sudden weight pressed against her, his deep heavy breaths spoke of a sudden wave of lightheadness that he tried to get in control of. She gave him time to stand a little steadier on his feet, then with an arm around his waist for support, she started to guide her sick captain towards the infirmary.
Mollie had things prepared by the time Orla and Friede came stumbling in. She wasted little time in helping Orla get him on the bed, where he struggled somewhat from the hands that wanted to take his flight jacket off.
“I don’t want you in too many layers,” Mollie spoke, gently gripping Friede’s shoulder as to ground him. She waited until he settled down before starting her check-up.
After Orla left the infirmary, her hands swiftly went from one test to another; checking his temperature, pulse, the inside of his throat when he mumbled about a scratchy throat during her questioning session. Eventually, she came to the conclusion that Friede was in for a few days minimum of bed rest until the worst of the symptoms eased up.
Mollie raised an eyebrow at the mullish tilt to his eyebrows once she gave him the verdict. “I don’t want you to pass out nor increase the chance of spreading this to everyone. I’ll be having my hands full looking after one stubborn idiot.”
“Harsh,” he mumbled, cowering when her eyes hardened. Mollie could be a little cold when someone had the misfortune of igniting her ire. She preferred a cool sense of professionalism rather than allow fear to settle in. Friede genuinely worried her but as the nurse on this ship, she had to keep rational if she wanted him to recover as quickly as possible.
“Am I wrong?” she challenged.
Perhaps something finally clicked into that feverish brain of his as Friede hunched in slightly, eyes darting to the side.
“No,” he admitted. “Sorry for worrying you.”
As much as she wanted to keep a hold of the slight thrum of anger beneath her skin, Mollie simply heaved out a deep sigh, briefly pinching the bridge of her nose.
“I wish that you’d stop hiding when you’re not feeling well, Friede.” Her eyes settled onto his contrite expression. “Do you realize that you’ve got everyone worried today?”
“I, uh, I actually didn’t.” His voice sounded like a child being reprimanded, which she supposed wasn’t far from the truth. “Honest, I just thought I was feeling more tired than usual. But I guess that’s why Murdock gave me that tea, and the kids offering to switch chores with me…”
It took a lot of willpower to not roll her eyes. Honestly, this brilliant man could be so dense at times.
“I don’t know whether it’s better that you’re ignorant or stubborn. Regardless, you’re on bedrest for coming days. I’ll give you some medication to take after you have something in your stomach. Murdock made soup so that should be easy on it.”
“He did?”
“Yes Friede. Everyone noticed you weren’t feeling well–except for you, unsurprisingly.” Her blunt tone didn’t quite match the way she slowly draped a blanket over his form. “Now you’re going to briefly rest here while I have Murdock bring some soup for you to eat. I expect you to eat as much as you’re able to, then take the medicine. Do I make myself clear?”
“Crystal,” he mumbled, sighing blissfully once Mollie placed a folded damp rag over his forehead.
Mollie smoothened the blanket once more, her own expression softening somewhat. “Try and get some sleep, alright?”
“Mm…” She supposed that after the fight drained from his body, he couldn’t resist succumbing to some much needed rest. Mollie observed him for awhile longer, then checked her cabinet for the appropriate medicine to give Friede later.
With everyone pitching in to take care of their stubborn, loveable captain, it was her hope that he’d return back to full health before the week was up. Until then, she was in for a whole lot of whining in her immediate future…
Not that she fully minded, she supposed.

Friede will predict something bad
Tumblr media
Here's an image in one of the latest Professor Friede's Pokemon Seminar extra scene/image. While we ALREADY have Sprigatito and Rockruff, the staff added a Pawmi, in which it's a mouse Pokémon.
Apparently, one week ago, we have Wattrel's wings being electrified and the staff added a Quaxly for bird reasons (shown below). By the next week, Dot and her Quaxly have touched grass and save her IRL friend. If something happens by the next week (the Quaxly and Pawmi meeting) I'll be pissed.
Tumblr media
Quaxly is 50% look like Donald Duck and Pawmi's classification is a mouse, meaning it's 10% Mickey Mouse. If they meet eachother, Disney will take legal actions to Game Freak. And it's only in my cursed world...
Oh and also if you're trying to say that "um, actually, Pawmi's also in the ship" IDGAF ok?? I've seen a Pawmi going on adventures and plays with their Pokemon but that doesn't matter!! Since Fuecoco is now from Roy, WHY PAWMI??? THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AND I'M ABOUT TO SOB VERY HARD WHEN QUAXLY AND PAWMI MEETS EACHOTHER AND COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR HAIR!!! THIS IS UNFAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the Blorbo Bingo: good ol' Ariandel, firstly
Oh boy, oh boy!
Tumblr media
He came so damn close to a legit bingo! xD
But I don't think I need to truly explain WHY I feel the way I do about him. He's just...perfect to me in so many ways that it makes me sad there is little to no content about him in canon and whatever we have is always linked to Friede or overshadowed entirely by her story arch. Like I get that she is part of his lore but what of before she came to the Painted World? What was he like? Who was he exactly? And further more, what more was there to this whole situation?
Not to mention the potential that could have been if routes were taken differently and so forth. It makes me sad considering how much I love this character c'x
He's one of my biggest blorbos and I will die on the hill defending him!
