{Sicktember 2022 Day 21: "Does This Look Infected to You?"}

It was a sunny and calm morning at the Bodega. Part of its quiet was possibly due to the fact that Rad was late. Most mornings started with Rad and K.O. stocking up for the day and cleaning up any aisles missed from losing the night before. The two of them could get pretty rambunctious with those tasks alone. Enid never really complained though. She used to take solace in any silence she could find from Rad’s constant tomfoolery, but these days she delighted in the morning routine of her boys being idiots. Not that she’d really admit to anything like that. But the two really did give her days something interesting from the usual monotony of customer service and fighting robots.

When the doors of the shop did finally open to their coworker, he was in quite the state. His face was red and flushed with what looked like a black eye. As well as scratches and scrapes across his arms. None of his injuries looked horribly serious but they definitely didn’t look good.

“Dude,” Enid called to him from behind the register, “what the junk happened to you? You look like major butt.”

Rad frowned at the words. He opened his mouth to explain only to let out a loud, wet, sneeze.

“Gross,” Enid snapped.

“Is Rad sick!” screamed K.O. from across the store. The younger blasted over so fast, Enid was sure she saw a dust cloud in his wake.

“I’m fine,” Rad insisted, hands on his hips.

Enid scoffed. “Yeah, if ‘fine’ means having been shoved through a cheese grater.”

The alien frowned over at her. “If you must know. On my way to work I was attacked by, like, seventy, uh, hundred, yeah, seventy-hundred Shannons! I kicked all their butts though,” he said with a grin, scratching at the side of his nose before letting out another blast of a sneeze.

“Woah! That’s so rad, uh, Rad!” K.O. called out with star eyes sparkling towards the other.

Enid rolled her eyes at the two. She wasn’t sure if K.O. was really that dense or if he just played along with Rad. Either way she leaned onto the counter with her hand on her chin. “Yeah, I’m sure it was that and not you accidentally running into a fire chicken’s nest or something stupid like that.”

“Hey!” Rad shouted annoyedly. “If it was a fire chicken I’d have burns, duh.” His words were punctuated with another sneeze.

“Right. Well whatever it was, you’re definitely sick,” Enid informed. “Go home.”

“What!” screeched Rad. “But it’s fresh nacho box day! You can't make me miss out on fresh nachos, Enid. I can stay home tomorrow.”

The ninja crossed her arms over her chest. “Alright, fine. You wanna stay at work sick? Then you can go in the back and organize our truck load.”

“Box organization! Fun!” cried out K.O. with a jump fist to the air.

“Nope,” Enid said with a pop of her ‘p’. “K.O., you get to unpack the snacks for the day.”

“Wait but- but that’s my thing,” Rad whined.

“Yeah, and you were late so now we have to do two things at once and you’re the one with the levitation powers.” Enid then tilted her head at him. “But if you're not sick or anything, then it should take you hardly any time at all right? Just quick enough to come back and get the first plate of nachos before K.O. finishes.”

Rad frowned at her. “Fine! I’ll have all this done in ten minutes!” he called and stomped away to the back.

Enid plopped her chin back on her hand and looked down at K.O.. “Keep an ear out for him and make sure he doesn't pass out or anything, ‘kay?”

The younger gave a salute. “You got it, Enid!” Before he skipped off to go complete his own tasks.

K.O. was sure that Rad would be fine. But… maybe it wouldn’t hurt to at least take a peek. He looked from the bag of hotdogs in his hands and over to Enid at the front. He waited till she was leaned back and face in a magazine before he snuck off to the back.

He peeked his head up from behind another aisle. He located Rad in the back with all the new boxes. However, none of them seemed to actually have been moved.

Rad gave out a heavy sigh and pointed his finger at a stack of boxes. The purple glow of his power started up but puttered out almost immediately. The alien gave a groan of annoyance that turned into a string of harsh sneezes. He tried again, this time lasting long enough to get the power glow around at least one of the boxes. However, when he attempted to lift it the light puttered out once again with a sad little ‘toot’ sound.

K.O. frowned at the sight. He was sure the other was sick and probably needed help too! But he wasn’t sure if Rad would let him help. K.O. puffed out his cheeks with air and smacked his hands into them to let it all out at once. He had to help! He jumped off the aisle and skittered over to the other.

“Heya, Rad!” he greeted with a big grin and a wave.

Rad gave a loud sneeze before looking over to the other. “K.O.? Are you already done?”

“Oh! No, no!” K.O. reassured. “I just came by to see if you wanted help!”

Rad scoffed at that. “What about Enid,” he grumbled with a wave of his hands.

“Well,” K.O. pressed his fingers together in thought, “if we get done with the boxes fast enough and then do the snacks together too, then it’ll be like we both did the same amount of work!”

The other raised a brow at that and gave a hum. “I guess…”

“Hurray!” K.O. shouted out with a happy jump. He ran up to the boxes and grabbed one to start moving it. So close to Rad, he got a better look at the other’s injuries. He frowned at the sight. “Those aren’t infected are they?”

“Huh?” Rad looked down at the wounds. “Why? Do they look infected to you?”

K.O. gave a shrug. “I dunno, all I know is my mommy said that infected wounds are really bad! And if I scrape my knee or get hurt I gotta clean it up A.S.A.P.!”

He frowned down at them and gave another thoughtful hum. “I guess I should probably clean them up. Uh- If only ‘cause a bandaged arm would look way cooler anyways,” he laughed out.

“Oh! Oh!” K.O. called with little hops of excitement. “I know where the bandages are! I can go get them! Meet you in the back!” Then ran off before Rad could reply.

Rad was in the breakroom, cleaning the wounds on his arms with a wet rag when K.O. walked in. “Got ‘em!” He cried, holding them up as a little tune played out to celebrate the acquired loot.

“Nice job, little dude.”

K.O. skittered over to where Rad sat. “I can help you put ‘em on if you want!”

“Oh, uh okay,” Rad mumbled out, the red from his face no longer just from his fever but from the embarrassment of letting the other help. He let K.O. take his arms and start to wrap the gauze around the wounds with a smile.

“There we go!” K.O. chirped as he tied off the last piece.

“You’re gonna want these too.”

The two looked over to the door as it opened and Enid walked in. She tossed a small box over, smacking into Rad’s nose before it fell into his open hands.

He gave a sneeze before looking down at what she'd thrown. It was a box of cold meds. He looked back up at her and frowned. “I told you, I’m not sick-“

“Take the stupid pills or I’m not giving you any nachos.”

Rad’s mouth snapped close at that. He ripped open the box with a huff and swallowed down two of the pills.

Enid walked past the duo and to the fridge. She dumped a few handfuls of ice cubes into a baggie and wrapped them in a towel. “For your eye, you big palooka,” she explained as she dropped the bag into his lap and sat down with them.

Rad gently placed the ice-pack over his eye, only giving a quiet hiss at first. “Thanks guys,” he mumbled to them both.

“Of course, Rad!” K.O. exclaimed.

“It’s whatever,” Enid shrugged. “But you really should go home and rest. If only so you can break that fever and not get the rest of us sick.”

Rad moved to say something but was interrupted by Enid. “You can take home as many fresh nachos as you want, you dork.”

The alien smiled at that and gave a whoop of excitement.

As part of Disney’s “Next 100” presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Disney revealed a first look at a brand new animated series, “Primos”, which will be coming to the Disney Channel and Disney+.

From Big City Greens alumni Natasha Kline, “Primos” introduces Tater Ramirez Humphrey, an eccentric girl with big dreams, determined to find what makes her extraordinary. MultiVersus Wish List

Gonna start with the ones that have already leaked, move on to the ones likely to show up, then pie in the sky dream picks. This is far from a definitive list, but just the ones that I can immediately think of or have thought about including. Feel free to add your own picks.

Marvin the Martian: He was already part of the leak list and is a natural pick for the Looney Tunes cast. I can see him having a blaster, maybe summon those alien bird monsters. So kind of like a combination of Fox and Olimar.

Samurai Jack: This is a no-brainer pick. I don't even know what else to say other than his inclusion opens up the possibility for the Scotsman, Aku, and Ashi to be included.

Duck Dodgers: Dodgers was recently leaked as being a potential character, and it would be interesting to have him instead of Daffy, even if they are technically the same person...duck? Plus you can have his costume from the old cartoon and his solo series which STILL ISN'T ON HBOMAX!

Amethyst and Pearl: I honestly can't imagine them only including two members of The Crystal Gems, so just round out the original team with these two. Give Amethyst a grapple move where she turns into the Purple Puma, have Pearl crying hysterically for her lose screen.

Scooby-Doo: Come on, you think they aren't going to include him? Just gonna have Shaggy and Velma?

Princess Bubblegum and Marceline: Again, it's hard to imagine them only having Finn and Jake, or one and not the other of these two.

Spike the Bulldog: I'd find it weird if Tom and Jerry are the ONLY reps for their franchise, but it also isn't like there's a ton of other characters that could fill a slot. Spike really is the only other prominent recurring character that I could see being included.

Wile E. Coyote: He's got too many gadgets to not include. Have him be a bit like Luigi and Diddy Kong, where you can overcharge so attacks, or if you whiff others it leaves you open.

Daphne Blake: Voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar! Yes, specifically the Daphne from the Live Action movies. Or at least one styled after her.

Stevonnie: I always thought it was a shame that we never got to see Stevonnie in more than one real fight, but I understand that wasn't what the show was really about. Still, it would be nice to have them included.

TOM (Toonami Operations Module): Yeah, I bet you didn't know his name was an acronym. Neither did I until a second ago. But yeah, since I don't know how true those rumors of getting Naruto in are, this would still be the closest we could get to them including someone from the Toonami block. And its not like he hasn't had his own adventures before.

Yellow Diamond: If the rumors of Giant characters like Iron Giant, Kong, and Godzilla are true, then it would be nice to see one of the titanic tyrannical rulers of the Gem Empire be included, and she seems like the one most likely to throw hands.

KO Kincaid: This one I'm actually making a little headway with. I've gotten both Ian Jones-Quartey and Tony Huynh aware of the demand for KO to be included on the roster, so really we just have to cross our fingers and politely let them know we want him.

Prohyas and Vambre Warrior: Now we're getting into my "Not in a Million Years" picks. Probably even more obscure than O.K K.O., but I love Might Magiswords even more and I WILL make that everyone else's problem.

Sam Sheepdog: Co-worker/Antagonist to Ralph Wolf. Assuming Wile E. gets a Ralph skin, Sam would be a natural complement to it.

Birdman: With an optional Harvey Birdman skin. Maybe have Birdgirl with her two different costumes too. This is sort of a blanket request for all the forgotten Hanna-Barbera super heroes. Blue Falcon, Space Ghost, the Impossibles, the Herculoids. Frankenstein Jr. Does anyone even remember him? I do.

And now for my wildest wish, almost certain to never come to pass

Ben Mankiewicz: I know what you're saying? Who? Why? How? Listen, I noticed that Turner Classic Movies is a division of Warner Brothers, and Ben is the closest thing the channel has to a mascot. And if the rumors of Lebron James being included along with other Live Action characters, who's to say that a film historian can't throw down with the likes of Superman and Bugs Bunny?

Thinking about the various entrants of yall-hate-kids-tourney and how much I know them.

Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls) - I watched Gravity Falls back in the day, but I haven't finished it.

Gregory (FNAF) - Haven't really seen much of FNAF

Amy Rose and Tails Nine (Sonic the Hedgehog) - I've played a few spin-off Sonic games when I was a kid, but not enough to be familiar with either character.

Flandre Scarlet (Touhou Project) - I heard of Touhou and once tried level 1 of what may have been the first game and failed to get past it.

Meiling Li (Cardcaptor Sakura) - I saw a YouTube essay about Cardcaptor Sakura, but it didn't talk about Meiling.

Six (Little Nightmares) - Haven't heard of Little Nightmares.

Ken Amada (Persona 3) - I watched Let's Plays of Persona 3 FES, The Answer, and Portable. I like Ken's character, but the YMMV page of TVTropes is so harsh on him...

Carl Grimes (The Walking Dead) - Haven't really heard of the show

Mary (Ib) - I played Ib back in the day. I got so scared of the doll room that I quit out of the game and asked my friends to help me out. My first ending was the one where Ib and Garry don't remember each other. At the time, there were seven endings and the bonus gallery, and I saw them all.

Jason Todd and Damian Wayne (DC Comics) - I'm not very big on DC, but I did hear about the infamous vote.

Chara Dreemurr (Undertale) - I played Undertale multiple times. I wasn't big on killing, though. The worst I did was empty out all the random encounter areas but spare all the bosses.

Monaca Towa (Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls) - I've watched lots of Let's Plays for the Dangaronpa series and the Anime, but I haven't seen a full LP of the latest spinoff game. UDG was... ...

Bailu and Qiqi (Hoyoverse) - I've *heard* of both of those games but don't know any characters in it.

Eridan Ampora and Vriska Serket (Homestuck) - I have a friend from college who is big on Homestuck, but I don't really look at it.

Maria Ushiromiya (Umineko: When They Cry) - I'm sure one of my friends recommended it to me, but I haven't looked into it.

A thing I've always admired (and resented) about O.K. KO: Let's Be Heroes! was how the show was willing to present concepts and ideas with the same energy as a piece of high-school fanfiction, without even the slightest hint of shame. A fact that was especially evident in it's crossover episodes, of which it did very casually and with great enthusiasm.

Heads up, I'm not working on QuartzHeart anymore, but I have been working on a new comic, Meet the Villains!

“Meet the Villains!” comes from a desire to unpack the tropes of the superhero genre. In this story, people with disabilities are not pidgenholed as inspiring heroes or deformed villains, but all characters are heroes and villains who happen to have a disability. Sometimes bad things happen with fandoms for many reasons. It could be that a staff member of your show did something wrong (Or a lot of them) It could be that a character’s race, gender, or illness is represented horribly. It could be some crazy fans making everything hell for everyone around them. It can make it hard to feel good about enjoying the media you adore.
