M A I N C H A R A C T E R S
With the plot primarily focusing on the relationship between Patryk and Y'saia, they're the two main characters.
PATRYK TOU BADRA (30, bi, he/him) is our point of view character.
A half-orc child born to Jagoda ton Badra and an unknown human father, the youngest of three children.
To help support his mother, he fell into a life of crime at a young age like his brothers, Roman and Izydor. That all changed on his eighteenth birthday, when he was drafted into war. The Empire of Cromerth set its sights eastwards, looking to expand its borders. He spent six years as a conscript, scraping by and surviving by the skin of his teeth day by day. After Cromerth's retreat, Patryk and his mother were left homeless, with nothing to their name but his meager pension and placement in a tenement block.
With Izydor in prison and Roman up north in Avanar with his wife to avoid the draft, Patryk fell back into his old life, selling his gun to whoever paid for it.
He's a quiet, thoughtful, and introverted man. Carrying both the weight of providing for his mother and the trauma of war on his back, he tends to withdraw into himself to cope with the stress.
Patryk is tall and sturdily built with broad shoulders and a big, barrel chest, though his human blood leaves him shorter than his brothers and mother. He takes more after his orc side in appearance, with olive green skin, red eyes, and pointed teeth. All he has of his father is curly black hair, normally shaved close to his scalp, and a sharp, aquiline nose.
Y'SAIA SHALAR (28, pan, she/her) is the main character of the story, being the driving force of the plot.
The only child born to Matriarch Soreal Shalar and her two lovers, Y'saia is buried beneath mountains of expectations. With the Shalar family line dating back to the days of the Pad of the ancient elven empire, her mother is one of the wealthiest, most influential people in the world, wheeling and dealing with rulers worldwide. Cold and cruel, Soreal sees Y'saia as an investment above all else.
From a young age, she suffered from severe nightmares of the Harmahat Woodlands in Kiski. They were never of any concern to Soreal, her father, or her second mother. She continued to live with them as they grew more and more vivid and intense, almost beckoning her to Harmahat, and she couldn't ignore them any longer. Against Soreal's wishes, Y'saia left their homeland of Caosa, bound for Kiski.
Y'saia is a product of her upbringing. Living in the lap of extreme wealth has made her snobby and haughty, and she finds herself completely out of her element in the war-scarred city of Wallenia. Despite her mother's best efforts, Y'saia has not grown to be as cruel as her, though she can be and frequently is callous to the plights of others. She harbors resentment towards all three of her parents, living beneath their thumb for her entire life, being groomed into what is expected of the woman who will inherit her mother's position. She has found her time away from them to be liberating.
She's tall for an elf, coming just short of six feet with a soft, full-figured frame and a rounded face. Prominent, pointed ears. Her skin is a dark, iron-like grey, hair long and white, and eyes big, shiny, and entirely black. Aside from her build, she bears an uncanny resemblance to Soreal in her youth.

What makes you ship elriel so hard?
Honestly? It's how comfortable they are around eachother and their moments together melt my heart.
I won't lie, when I first read how Elain and Lucien were revealed as mates, I was quite open to it as I wanted to see how they'd work (I really do like Lucien!) But the more I read the series, the more I realised that their mating bond is toxic for both of them, and that they're more happy with others (Azriel for Elain and Vassa for Lucien) and at the end of the day, no matter what couple I ship, I just want my favourite characters to be happy and I believe that Elain & Azriel will make eachother happy.
They're also quite different from SJM's other couples where the MC is a fierce badass and her LI is some rude guy (at first). For example, Aelin + Rowan, Celaena + Chaol, Bryce + Hunt, etc.
Not that there's anything wrong with these couples as I love them all, but it's nice to have something new!
Have a nice day anon🌹
