the harper legacy has officially ended 🥺❤️😘

it all started in december 2021; and i would never had imagined i'd still be here with my pixels in may 2023. but here we are!

much of the reason why i stuck with the harpers for so long was due to @aliennooboo's live for something legacy challenge. thank you so much, nuka! i know maria didn't complete all her generation goals, but i needed a story arc for the next challenge... but i still hope it counts as completing the challenge 😊

a big hug to all of you that shared your sims with me; and to all of you, whom i borrowed sims from. my harpers grew better with your sims and enriched my gameplay experience so much.

and a big bear hug to all of you who have followed my harpers' lives, by liking, commenting or reblogging their silly lives. it means the world to me 🤗

nevertheless, i have an announcement to make: harper legacy will have a sequel!

i couldn't really leave ursula lost in between magical portals, right? 😉 i don't have a date yet; but when i do, you'll be the first to know!

meanwhile, i will keep posting the end of the raspberry generation of the harper legacy twice (i will probably make a pause before starting the next generation); and in june, the meow harper legacy will start being posted daily (except on weekends).

I visited Tanagra Town in my hunt for Royal Jelly while working on my Tadpole Cook merit badge, only possessing a vague understanding in advance that it’s one of those “Lovecraft vibe” locations. When I got there, I expected to find the usual culprit in a hidden cave, so the first time I combed the location, I missed it... because I didn’t think to look up.

I’m still stuck on what sort of reference the town name could possibly be making. It’s hard to make sense of it, fittingly, and I have some vague thoughts.

Literally, Darmok + Jalad feels like it might be a “Tower of Babel” type of implication. In the referenced Star Trek episode, the Enterprise struggles to forge meaningful communication with an alien race whose language is entirely contextual: to know what the words mean, one must know the culture behind it.

Figuratively, Tanagra feels like it might describe multiple individuals and/or factions overcoming a shared threat through an unlikely alliance. If so, my best guesses are that the heavily-contextualized communication involves that one Kanawha Nuka-Cola Plant note about hiding something “in that place where I put that thing that time”...

...or I’m mega reaching and supposing that Tanagra itself could represent the franchise’s referential dialogue with its players, as a sort of fourth wall jab at itself.

Does Nuka-Cola factor into any of this? The Enclave scientists? The miners? What did the Nuka-Cola coworkers smuggle out of the bottling plant in Kanawha, and did one of them hide it in Tanagra? Was the metal head a part of any of this? Is there any correlation between any of the Capital Wastes metal face locations, esp. Point Lookout (and the Dunwich Building) one state over?*

The details in Tanagra Town could also be a standard “alien/interdimensional communication attempt” trope, and referencing the ST as one iconic example.

It also weirds me out a bit that Tanagra Town is a plant-choked location, and the only other location to mention the place is a (bottling) plant.

* I don’t know why it’s sticking out to me in particular that Bysshe Co. was directly involved with the tunnel in Harper’s Ferry, the closest named town or city to Tanagra.

[Edit: Still haven’t booted it yet, but now I’m stuck on the fact Picard used Gilgamesh to communicate with the Tamarian alien, and then there being a Gilgamesh reference in 76 in the form of One Violent Night. I think I’m going to start my dive at the Sons of Dane compound... (Edit 2: I got Beowolf and Gilgamesh mixed up. Sorry about that.) At the end of "Darmok," Picard is brushing up on his human mythos by reading the Homeric Hymns, which are poems addressed to various Greek deities, in the hopes that doing so will expand his ability to communicate with the Tamarians. There's something here. There's got to be.]

⌚️ How old were they when they entered the vault? Were they born in there? Or alternatively, are they from Vault 76 at all? (if not, where are they from and how did they end up in West Virginia?)

Jeff is not from Vault 76, nor is he a vault dweller whatsoever. He was born in West Virginia to parents who were a part of the Appalachian Free States. However, he did experience life underground when he was around 8 years old. 

🤝 Do they have any other CAMP allies? (either in-game or added via headcanon)

Brian 🦩

Jeff met Brian at one of the lowest moments of his life. He was still trying to make sense of everything following his disastrous new beginning, all while trying to stay alive. 

Rather than choosing to live a somewhat peaceful life on the cliffs between Slocum's Joe and Arktos Pharma, Jeff left the safe haven that he built for himself and continued on his adventure.

Wilson Brother's Auto Repair became his temporary home base while on the road. And all was going well enough until the night when scorched hordes surrounded the building. 

Panicked, Jeff grabbed the rifle that he picked up in Berkeley Springs and commanded a lone plastic flamingo to keep an eye on the garage. In the same moment, he gave the flamingo a name: Brian.

Together, Jeff and Brian managed to fight off the scorched and save the garage; but, Jeff wasn't ready to face another horde at this point. So, the pair packed up everything and left, searching for another place to call home. 

Today, Jeff and his best friend Brian are constantly building/rebuilding, helping others, and going on adventures together. Their recent trip to Nuka-World on Tour (pictured below) was so much fun! 

Brian would tell you that along with being Jeff's most powerful ally, he is also the CEO and acting secretary of the Jeff Stone Complaint Department™️

⭐️ The Free States?

Jeff was just a child amidst the growing tension between his extended family and most everyone. He would hear whispers of treachery and scandal and notice the accusatory stares coming from his neighbors. Much of this was beyond him at the time, yet still managed to upset him. 

With said tension and the threat of war becoming more of a reality with each passing day, the Free States sheltered underground. They remained there until it was finally safe to re-emerge and rebuild again. 

Post-war, Jeff was able to experience something that could resemble normalcy. The Free States made their home in Harpers Ferry and offered assistance to other survivors and their factions. Unfortunately, all of their efforts would come to an end with the emergence of scorchbeasts and the plague that ultimately spread throughout The Mire and beyond.

Jeff lost his mother and father, his extended family and friends. He was among few survivors of the scorched attacks and felt tremendous guilt because of it. 

(Not so much related to the Free States, but the following is for you, @jonnyonearth ❤️)

Jeff carried his guilt with him as he traveled across the map in search of folks like himself and safety. It was a difficult journey, but he was able to eventually find both of those things in the Forest–and yet his new beginning almost ended before it even started. 

A vault dweller turned wasteland nurse, Emily, found an unresponsive Jeff next to one of the saddest C.A.M.P. creations she had ever laid eyes on. She saved his life that day as her and another wastelander, a preacher, brought Jeff down to her clinic. Even in the present day, Emily still teases Jeff about the whole ordeal, especially the moment when Jeff realized he was sporting some strange gadget on his wrist. 

Jeff started to understand the Free States through holotapes, notes, and hushed stories shared over drinks. Among his personal belongings are Free States items that he has collected over the years. 💙

Ivy Amari (She/Her)

My lone wanderer, Ivy is a clinically depressed bisexual who struggles with self harm. She also is a pretty heavy drinker and she smokes! She has a dog named Dogmeat, and a boyfriend named Butch DeLoria. Image credit goes to @beyx​

Scar (She/Her)

My Courier 6, Scar, was born as María Cortez, when she was 14 raiders attacked her family, killing her mom, abducting her, and leaving her 10 year old brother, Asher, that was hidden. She was inducted into the raider gang, getting the nickname Scar. She eventually left and became a courier with the Mojave Express. During her work there she was ambushed, shot in the head, and buried alive. That starts off the game, her eventually siding with the NCR and beginning a relationship with Cass. She reunites with her brother too.

Crow (She/Her)

My current sole survivor, she was married before the bombs fell, took shelter in Vault 111 where she and her neighbors were cryogenically frozen without their knowledge for 200 years. Her wife, Nora was shot and presumed dead when people abducted their child. Crow escaped cryo after, and went looking for her son. She hired a mercenary named MacCready and they eventually fell in love. 

Harper O’Leary (She/Her)

Harper is a Vault 76 dweller, and she was born in the vault. She’s nineteen, a mechanic, a massive lesbian, and she kinda raised herself. She’s irish-american, has an extremely high alcohol tolerance, has a really bubbly personality, and lost her right hand to a mirelurk. She hand-made her prosthetic out of the scraps she could find. 

Tiny Tess (She/Her)

Tess is my Nuka-World overboss, becoming the leader of the raiders living there after killing the last overboss. She then helped clear some dangerous areas to give the gangs there more territory. She’s a born and raised raider, eventually dating her second in command. She’s pretty calm, although she does like violence/fighting and is pretty ruthless.

Asher (He/They)

Asher is Scar’s younger brother and he was 10 when raiders attacked them. Their mother stalled the raiders while Scar hid him. When he came back out their mom was dead and Scar was missing. He made his way to a nearby town after a few days and eventually settled in a small farming village.

Stiches (She/They)

Stitches is a 15 year old scavenger from Little Lamplight, a town of kids under 16. She’s pretty abrasive most of the time and her beanie is a safety blanket for her. She has a massive gay crush on Delilah.

Locket (He/They)

Locket is somehow Stitches’ best friend despite them being polar opposites. They go on scavenging runs with her and they’re basically attached at the hip.

Delilah (She/Her)

Delilah is a 15 year old who lives in a settlement somewhat near Little Lamplight. She’s friends with Stitches and Locket, even inviting them to live with her when they age out of the town. She’s got a crush on Stitches and she’s thinking of telling her before they age out of Little Lamplight. She’s got the nickname Dell but so far only Stitches and Locket call her that.

Kit/TS-17 (She/Her)

Kit is an ex-institute courser who escaped and tracked down the Railroad, choosing to keep her memories and join them in freeing other escaped synths. Her designation in the institute was TS-17 (First image is her as TS-17 and second is of her after she escapes)

Pallas (She/They)

Pallas is a pre-war ghoul who works as a courier that travels across the US. Their name pre war was Mary, but she never tells people it. She’s very sarcastic and tries to avoid conflict when she can. (First picture is pre-war, second is after the bombs fell)

Nora Anderson (She/Her)

Nora’s an Asian-American lesbian dumbass, she was dating Crow (named Abigail at the time) when she joined the military, getting the large chemical burn on her face before being discharged. She and Crow got married as soon as she got back. They adopted their son, Shaun, and then the bombs fell. They were rushed into cryo, and Nora was shot while Shaun was being kidnapped. She was presumed dead, but was actually frozen while severely injured. A little over a year later, Crow came back to bury Nora, and discovered that she hadn’t died! Crow had already moved on, but they stayed close. Nora stayed in Sanctuary for a while, and eventually started travelling, joining up with a reporter named Piper, and eventually dating her.

Rat (Any Pronouns)

Rat is a kid in the commonwealth, they spent a lot of their early life living with molerats that were kept by some raiders. Eventually he was discovered by the Atom Cats and adopted by the group. She’s nonverbal and once she became less feral, it turns out she’s very happy and kind.

Alright! So! So far I have 37 Fallout OCs!!

There's my Sole Survivor, Nathan Ian Howard! He grew up in Boston, Massachusetts with his Older Brother, Elijah Liam Howard! They both went to school with Hana Keigetsu Yoshida(she migrated from Japan to the USA with her family when she was 10, and knew the Howard brothers ever since they met in elementary school)! Nathan went into Vault 111 with Nora(I need to make Nora's background and stuff), and I think I may have Hana go in with him as well? I'm not sure 100% of what Hana's background is yet, but ye! Elijah ends up in West Virginia, and went into Vault 76 with my other Fallout 76 OC, Ersa! Both Nathan and Elijah were in the military(Nathan was Army and Elijah was Marines). Elijah did some stuff with Vault-Tec and the Enclave, and ended up a Cyborg and was also cryogenically frozen as well at some doing, also got stuck in one of those green tube thing as well? Elijah is Bisexual and Polyamourous, so is Nathan and Hana. Ersa is Demisexual. They're all cis.

There's also my Courier 6 OC, Torin Arlen Hugh! He's a Trans Man and Bisexual and Polyamorous He waa born in New Reno. He sided with Mr. House, and lived in luxury until he ended up retiring as a courier. He ended up leaving New Vegas and went to Massachusetts! He lives in Goodneighbor now in that Neon Flats Creation Club house! He has a pet Fire Gecko named Sunset Sasaparilla, that goes by Sassy for short lol.

Then there's my Lone Wanderer, Aspen Harper Chau! She is a Trans Woman and also Bisexual and Polyamorous. She has heterochromia(hee right eye is blue and her left eye is brown)! I don't have much of a background for her yet, except for she's biracial (half white/half vietnamese), and that James ended up talking Aspen's moms last name.

Then there's my Self Insert OC(who is also a Multifandom OC, so I have her in other fandoms well), Eugenia Alexandra Everston(I have different last names for her depending on the fandom I'm using her in)! She goes by Alex! She grew up in the Brotherhood of Steel, but left with Madison Li when Alex was 9, and grew up in The Institute since then! She also meets Nathan and Elijah at some point as well! Elder Arthur Maxson and X6-88 are her step-siblings and Madison Li and Conrad Kellogg are her step-parents.

There's Angus Peyton Everston and Carmen Renee Ruth Everston! They're Alex's bio parents, and they ended up dying when Alex was 5, to a super mutant behemoth. They married, and are in a open marriage! They're both Bisexual and Polyamorous. Angus had Leif Axel Gunnar and Aito Jun Tsukiya! Carmen had Sarah Lyons and Jin Kyoko Tsukiya! Aito and Jin are twins! Jin is a trans woman and bisexual and polyamorous. Aito is a cis man and bisexual and polyamorous. They're both Chinese-Korean Americans. Angus has Scottish heritage and Carmen has irish heritage. Leif is Norwegian-American. Angus had a family cat named Frankie(she is a Sphyx cat lol), and also had two Rad-Ferrets named Ghost and Biscuit, that Leif and Alex take care of now.

There's Felix Sebastian Everston, who is Alex's older bio brother! They didn't know they each other until much later in the Fallout 4 events tho! 😅😅 He is a raider now in Nuka-World.

Courtney Nicole Stevens was Carmen's best friend and Godmother to Alex and Felix! She's Deaf Ana has cochlear implants. She is a hairdresser/tattoo artist/makeup artist.

Then there's Krzysztof Adok Łapiński, goes by Krzys for short. He's a Polish-American. He is a trans man and bisexual and polyamourous. He has two bionic prosthetic arms! He's also a mechanic in Nuka-World.

The gang's take on...

Alcohol and Chems 🍺💊

Tallahassee; Only occasionally drinks, even before the war. Her family has a history of addiction, and she’s not in a hurry to get addicted to something when it feels like the entire world’s trying to kill her. Tallahassee only drinks in areas she considers “safe,” like Diamond City, Goodneighbor, or the Castle post-reclamation. When she does drink, she mainly sticks to beer and wine. Only drinks whiskey when she’s stressed, it’s a habit she picked up when she was younger. Doesn’t use chems beyond stim-packs due to her husband’s experiences with them and the various cases she handled when she was a lawyer that involved them. Prefers to stay sharp and keep her wits about her, even if some of the chems could help sharpen those wits.

Harper; Her dad was a doctor, so you know she’s hesitant about taking chems and drinking when she first leaves the vault. She loosens up a bit over time and doesn’t mind alcohol one bit, even though she doesn’t have a great tolerance for it. A lot of fun at parties once she loosens up a bit, where alcohol is usually required. The only chems she takes beyond the basic stim-packs are orange mentats, and that’s when she’s on a stakeout or out hunting. They help keep her focused and sharp and don’t have addictive properties, so she has no issues going through an entire pack on long stake-outs. A strong believer in liquid courage.

Murk; Has experimented as an average teenager does but discovered that she doesn’t like the taste of alcohol unless it’s added with something like a Nuka Cola, and she hates the crash after most chems. Primarily uses berry mentats for studies (she likes the taste), Med-X for experiments or right after a battle (she has a low pain tolerance), and isn’t opposed to a puff of Jet when really stressed. Will not use Psycho except in life-or-death situations. The last time she was on it, she had a bad time and isn’t in a hurry to repeat it. Always carries at least one of each chem, though, for others. She also has a small stash of Addictol, since she’s paranoid she’ll get hooked and become a junkie.

Nate; Is a social drinker and loves chatting with folks after he has a beer or two. Made it his life goal to try all the different booze of the Commonwealth, though, so he’s excited when he finds a new bottle of something he hasn’t tried before. Mainly sticks to Buffout and Jet when it comes to chems; Buffout helps him with strength and endurance when he’s helping build things in settlements, and Jet’s always helpful in a fight. Stays away from Psycho, stating he had a bad reaction to it, but will use it if a fight gets tough. Has gotten addicted to chems once or twice but relies on good detox plans and does his best to monitor himself for symptoms. He can’t help folks if he’s barfing up his guts in the woods somewhere.

Pen; Takes ALL the chems, and drinks a fair amount of alcohol. No one knows how she’s still alive. She’s been addicted to every chem at once, detoxed, and then did it again. It drives her family insane because despite being a junkie, she operates roughly the same sober as she does intoxicated. Even Pen’s not sure how she’s still alive after all the stuff her body’s been through, self-afflicted or otherwise. Chalks it up to sheer determination, but it even gives the scientists at Big MT pause. More tests are needed, but ironically, Pen’s afraid of needles not held by her. Believes she’s supporting the Fixer economy in the Mojave Wasteland.

I'm back on my Fallout 4 bullshit, so can I interest you in some Harper Lore™ in these trying times?

Harper is Rose's last name, and Nate adopted it when they got married instead of vice-versa.

Rose was a doctor in the Air Force.

She loved to sew, by machine and by hand, and made a variety of things: clothes, stuffed animals, blankets, bags, etc

Her favorite fabric is velvet, which is in tragically short supply in the Wasteland :(

Her code name in the Railroad is Violet, partly because violets were her favorite flower, partly for the irony.

She was super into gardening pre-War, and now grows every variety of Wasteland flower she can get her hands on in her yard at Sanctuary.

Her father was Coast Guard, her mother was a nurse. She had 2 sisters and a brother, all younger, and many many cousins scattered around Massachusetts.

She's a decent singer but a fantastic pianist, and she used to play at her church on Sundays. Her favorite song was "I'll Fly Away" and she still sings it on a rare occasion- but she's never been able to finish the song since the bombs fell.

Trying to reconcile her faith with the state of the world is not a problem she's willing to deal with at the moment, as she's a bit busy rebuilding the Minutemen and killing Coursers for the Railroad. But she still finds it in her to thank God every time she gets to see her friends alive and unharmed one more time.

Her favorite gun is a double-barreled shotgun, but she's also become quite handy with a sniper rifle. That said, she uses the weapons to club people to death at least 50% of the time, depending on her mood. Her favorite melee weapon is the Shishkebab.

After leaving Vault 111, she spent a while in Sanctuary just repairing her house and the neighbors' houses, putting the chairs back together, setting up the dining room, patching holes in the walls... She knows her neighbors aren't ever coming back, and honestly she didn't even like some of them, but it's the least she could do to honor their memory (and it helps to alleviate the survivor's guilt a little).

Kellogg's skull was reduced to red paste by his own pistol. Rose didn't even shoot him with it, she just kept hitting him with it over and over and over until Nick physically removed her from the room. Now, she keeps the pistol with her at all times out of spite and as a reminder that whatever fucked up shit happens next, she can survive it. And probably kill it.

Her favorite Nuka-Cola product was Nuka-Cola Dark.

Empathy won against her better judgement and she returned the deathclaw egg to its nest.

”Audrey Harper.” Audrey pauses, “My married name was Anderson, but I’ve dropped that since coming from the vault.”

2. How old are you?

“30 when I went into the vault. I guess officially you have to add two hundred so years”

3. What do you look like?

“Blue-Green eyes, dark hair. I have a break in my nose that didn’t heal right, I got it from a scrap in grade school; but my glasses usually cover that up.”

4. Where are you from? Where do you live now?

“I was born in New York, raised in Boston my whole life. Now I’m living in the middle of Fenway park.” Audrey smiles. “Right next third base.”

5. What was your childhood like?

“It was alright.” Audrey shrugges her shoulders. “My family was well off, but it was easy even at a young age to see what the world was coming to. Mom and Dad took very good care of me though, I wanted for nothing.”

6. What groups are you friendly with? Are you allied with any factions?

“The Minutemen took me in as soon as I can out of the vault, gave me firm standing in this new world.” Audrey glances away for a moment, “I—uh—I also have worked with the Railroad a few times. Trying to track Kellogg.”

7. Tell me about your best friend.

“Kerry Long would be my best friend.” Audrey smiles, “She’s the one who found me up at the vault entrance and she taught me how to use a pistol. Kerry is a very strong woman, I have got to say I admire her.”

Audrey tenses, clamming up.

“I—I have a son out there somewhere.”

“Not anyone at the moment.” Audrey blushes. “There is hope for the future, though.”

“I have met a knight or two that were patrolling with the Minutemen.” Audrey frowns, “I can’t say I’ve very fond of them. They are extremely rude to Nick.”

11. Who are your enemies, and why?

“The Institute. But they are everyone’s enemy.”

12. What about The Enclave?

“The Who?”

13. How do you feel about Super Mutants?

“They are something I’m not fond of running into. I’ve never run faster than when a suicider was after me.”

“Nope. Don’t want to.”

15. What’s the craziest fight you’ve ever been in?

“When I was in Sanctuary a group of raiders decided to attack a fully fortified settlement. I didn’t do any fighting myself but it was so impressive watching the Minutemen fighting.”

Audrey frowns, “Not really. I don’t feel cut out for it.”

17. What’s your weapon of choice?

“I use a pipe pistol Kerry gave to me. It’s not much but it can stop a raider.”

“A partial college education doesn’t really do me much good in the wasteland, but I feel like it’s given me enough smarts to get by.” Audrey shrugs, “I feel like I get lucky most of the time.”

“Yes...,” Audrey trails off. “I’m not very fond of them. Brings back bad memories.”

“Rad-X and Rad-a-way are pretty effective. Mostly I just stick to Diamond City so I don’t have to worry about it too much.”

21. What’s your favorite wasteland critter?

“They usually are the same as they were before, but I still love dogs.”

22. What’s your least favorite wasteland critter?

“Radroaches. They were terrible when they were small and even worse now that they are big.”

23. How do you feel about robots?

Audrey smiles, “I like them. Some have quite the personalities.”

24. How many caps do you have on you right now?

“Uh,” Audrey pulls some out of her pocket and counts them out. “Ten.”

25. Nuka Cola or Sunset Sarsaparilla?

“I was actually fond of Sunset before the war. My family had travelled out west once and it was my favorite drink. Didn’t have it back East and Nuka Wild doesn’t come close.”

26. Do you do chems?

“Nope.”

27. Do you ever think about the Pre-War world?

“Sometimes.” Audrey smiles fondly. “It had it’s problems and I know it was doomed but it’s hard not to miss it.”

“The little things like having ice cream on a hot day, getting dressed up to go on a movie date. Just the little mundane things.”

28. What’s your deepest regret? What would you do differently?

“There are a lot of things I regret. I wish I would have confronted my husband about his cheating. I wish I wouldn’t have stopped school to be with him.” Audrey sighs, “Nothing I can do about it now though. I can only move forward.”

29. What’s your biggest achievement? Or what do you hope to achieve?

“Is surviving an achievement?” Audrey smiles. “For a pre-war housewife, who just had a baby and is out of shape, I am fairing better than I ever thought I would.

30. What do you want for the future? For yourself? Your friends? The world?

“I want my son...,” Audrey frowns. “Or at the very least answers. I want to maybe settle down with someone... be at peace after all of this.”

I started talking about an idea to mod a single player version of Fallout 76 here, and I’ve been thinking about it a lot since then. I started thinking about who would be good companions for this game. Some of them are canon characters that I’ve stolen and repurposed for my own ends:

Ava Feldstein

Found in the radio tower outside Flatwoods

Hosts a radio show that can be picked up in the western Forest Region that plays Tales From Appalachia cryptid horror holotapes

Huge fan of comics and radio plays

Likes when you find Grognak comics or other comic magazines, when you spare cryptids in the cryptid quests, and when you complete the Mistress of Mystery questline

Dislikes when you kill cryptids in the cryptid quests and when you choose mean dialogue options when speaking to friendly ghouls and super mutants

When you gain affinity with her, she talks to you about whether she wants to tell stories about heroes or be one herself. Depending on your choices at different levels of affinity, you can either tell her to do whichever option you were pushing her towards, or make a speech check to have her do the opposite

If she becomes a storyteller, her radio station gets new content that she records herself, and she gives you a magazine with a unique bonus every 24 hours

If she becomes a hero, she gets a new outfit and better combat stats

Found at Horizon’s Rest

Ace pilot with the Scavving Hornets, a group of ghoul and super mutant flyboys that make scavving runs into irradiated parts of the Ash Heap, the Savage Divide, and the Toxic Valley

Former crop duster pilot, current ghoul

As you increase your affinity with him, he tells you his backstory

At max affinity he gives you an electronic signal that you can use to call him (or one of the other Hornets, if he is currently your companion) in his Vertibird once per day to help fight enemies

Likes when you scrap junk for gold or silver scrap, make barter checks, or pick locks

Dislikes when you insult ghouls or super mutants, harm the Scavving Hornets, or take chems that lower your perception

Carrie Epps

Found inside Vault-Tec University

Self-styled Alchemist of Appalachia

Combines traditional folk healing that she learned from her mother with chemistry knowledge she learned scavving in the ruins of VTU

Used to have a snake oil salesman-esque wagon, but it sank into the Mire

Once you’ve made 20 unique things at chemistry stations, you unlock her personal quest

She wants you to help her find rare ingredients and then break into a chemistry lab in one of the vaults

Likes when you learn new recipes or craft things with the chemistry station

Dislikes when you eat things that aren’t food (glowing sap, bioluminescent fluid, etc)

Stump Matthews

Found in prison in Mining Coalition-controlled Clarksburg

Elderly folk singer

Draft dodger from the Great War

He thinks the Liberators are cute, and wishes you didn’t have to shoot them

When you collect a certain number of propaganda posters from Liberators, it triggers his personal quest, to sneak into the Coalition radio station and hijack the signal so it will play only union songs

Likes when you help the Responders or Free States, play instruments, or help out miners

Dislikes when you help the Coalition or Enclave or are rude to common people

Becomes hostile if you go past a certain point in the Coalition questline

Designation GX-55

Found in the Whitesprings Bunker

Enclave Assaultron

At each level of affinity, the player has the option to treat them more like an individual or a piece of technology, for example, deciding to refer to them as “Dez” or “GX-55″ at the first level of affinity

If you treat them as an individual at each level, you have the option to convince them to defect from the Enclave

After reaching their max affinity, they have a personal quest. Depending on whether you convince them to defect, they either hunt down and kill the ex-Enclave roboticist who made their advanced AI or find the roboticist and learn more about themselves.

Likes when you mod energy weapons, help the Enclave (if they haven’t defected), or use military-issue chems (psycho, med-x, etc.)

Dislikes when you help the Enclave (post-defection), or use civilian chems (alcohol, daddy-o, etc.)

Henry Henson

Found at Garrahan Mining Headquarters

Former miner for Garrahan mining company, having gotten his start as a scab during a general strike

Now a power armor soldier for the Coalition using Garrahan Excavator Armor

Dislikes when you say good things about unions or collective bargaining, help the responders, or harm mine bosses

Found at Treetops, south of Harpers Ferry

Pioneer Scout troop patrol leader

Lives in the trees with his now-adult scout troup in a Lord of the Flies type of scenario

Working on his Nuka Scout badge, one of the new ranks the troop has created since the bombs fell

Has ambitions to become the new troop leader, which involves a fight to the death with the current one

Wants to explore Appalachia in order to finish his Nuka Scout project, where he has to make a significant contribution to the troop

Likes when you use survival skills, set traps, or attack enemies with fire

Dislikes when you take peaceful options in cryptid quests or become dehydrated

Hacked Liberator Robot

Reprogrammed by the Lee family, the only people in Mononga who could both work with robots and speak enough Chinese to understand it

It was damaged by a Coalition power armor soldier who came into town and the player has to fix it

Found at the crashed space station

Has a space helmet stuck on their head that the player has to remove

Is much smaller than most of its kind, about the size of a large mole rat

When Jeff first met Jack O' Lantern at the Pumpkin House, he made a promise: 

"Don't worry, Jack O' Lantern. As long as I'm around, you will always have pumpkins to carve." (With Jeff once being terrified of all robots, this was quite the healing moment for him 💙)

Least favorite: The Raider/Settler daily quests–The Importance of Communication, Retirement Plan, Vital Equipment

I should preface this by sharing that Jeff has ally reputations with both the Raiders and Settlers. That said, ever since achieving that level of trust, he seldom ever visits The Crater or Foundation anymore. It was tough getting through their daily quests respectively, but Jeff was dedicated to keeping the peace between both factions. So, he would endure–searching endlessly for vacuum tubes, charming Raider hunters, and waiting for Ward to wake up to deliver precious equipment–out of kindness. 

⬇️ The Mole Miners?

Jeff is a long-time customer of Purveyor Murmrgh, choosing to follow her from her old shop out in Berkeley Springs to The Rusty Pick. She doesn't always have the best deals for him, but when she does…it's a real lifesaver. 

Really, Jeff has a soft spot for The Mole Miners. It's upsetting to him how they can't enjoy their treasures without being hunted, whether they are roaming around Appalachia or in Monongah. He would love to be allied to them, but until that day comes, he can only wish them the best. 💙
