What are your general headcanons of SAYU?
Tumblr media
;NSR SAYU - General Headcanons
Tumblr media
Compilation of headcanons and analysis about Sayu (+ the "Sayu Team") and other related things.
Tumblr media
just a heads up! I don't see sayu as an AI even if the wiki lists her as such (the wiki also lists the sayu team as her creators which isnt. true???). to me, she's literally just tila's vtuber rig, so this post won't focus much on sayu as a "person" like the DJSS post!
I do have some in-depth HCs about it and stuff, but yeah! this was just the warning for ppl who don't like this specific portrayal of sayu
Tumblr media
All of the marketing related to Sayu is meant to blur the line between fiction and reality.
Okay, okay bear with me for a second! This is gonna be a long one just to explain a single HC.
Sayu is meant to be an obvious homage to digital idols like Hatsune Miku, but whereas Hatsune Miku can be easily described as a voicebank and a very malleable character to play with when creating songs and different versions of her, Sayu doesn't have this advantage within NSR, since she originates from a videogame instead.
This means that while Miku can be a blank slate for people to do as they wish with her, it's harder to do with Sayu because she has an established, solid lore and personality within the game she comes from.
I like to think that, as rock (not just the music genre, but that specific mindset and all the subcultures and aesthetics that came with rock) began to fade out from Vinyl City, it was inevitably overshadowed by the complete opposite - cutesy, colorful and starry-eyed characters.
Doki Doki Mermaid Club was released during this transitional period within Vinyl City, and because it was brand new and so very different from what people knew, it became a hit. Like Kul Fyra, the citizens of Vinyl City became tired and their passion fizzled out. Instead of rock and its mentality of addressing serious issues, speaking against injustice, being loud, brash and so on, people were now drawn to the more chill, soft and pastel vibe this new genre brought.
And I like to think that NSR, specifically Tatiana, noticed that there was a lot of potential within parasocial relationships between idols and fans. But because Sayu was still tied to a game, they had to slowly force her out of it so she could go from "Sayu, from DDMC" to "Sayu, NSR's Megastar", if that makes sense.
This process would include buying the company behind the game and allowing it to simply disappear from the public's memory while Sayu's fame continued on growing. The rest of the characters were used to prop Sayu, as a way to profit from nostalgia, but once they outlived their usefulness, they were forgotten. The same thing that happened to Ex-Jay and all other rock bands prior EDM.
"But why would NSR go so far as buying a company just to let it die?" They canonically did that with smaller companies - in Akusuka, you can interact with Sayu Snacks and this dialogue confirms the lengths NSR is willing to go for success:
MAYDAY: I remember the day they bought over the tiny Vinyl City factory that made these. The mom-and-pop couple was so happy, but I kinda miss the packaging for Sheriff Bob's Barley Shots. ZUKE: Sayu-brand snacks… does Sayu even eat these? She's completely digital, right?
With this context, it makes sense to me that once Sayu established herself as a popular character, NSR would risk it all and hire a bunch of teenagers to ensure she continues being relevant.
This ensures Sayu's existence as an alleged "AI", she's as real as you and she's promoting your favorite snacks! She's cute and she lives in a huge tower where she hosts her concerts! She's Sayu and she loves you and she's also your internet provider! She's real because you can take pictures with her! She's REAL because her influence bleeds into every aspect of Akusuka.
MAYDAY: Hey! It's one of those picture booths I've heard so much about! This one even lets me pretend to take pictures with Sayu! Wait, why would I want that? ZUKE: I heard these things were once all the rage, but now, they've been relegated to only the Akusuka district...I guess we have Sayu to thank for that.
By allowing people to believe in Sayu as a person, NSR also makes sure to protect the identity of the unseen team behind her. It's two birds one stone, really. It's not unlike the way 1010 operates, with Neon J behind it all as a manager. Both of them profit from the exact same thing: allowing fans to obsess over made-up personas.
That's why implying Sayu isn't real is such a taboo within Akusuka - it destroys everything NSR worked so hard to build. But in the end, Sayu is still four people acting and keeping up with the façade because of their love for the character. That's why her mural in Tatiana's office only pictures her without the Sayu Team, unlike 1010's which has Neon J in the dead center.
The idea of turning Sayu into a proper, independent AI in order make better use of assets and resources hasn't been entirely shelved, however. But given Vinyl City's history with AI - that is to say, the fake background memories given to warbots - I think NSR would want to wait a little more to polish that plan before putting it into action, as a fully conscious and independent Sayu wouldn't be able to properly care for a whole district, and having her team of teenagers take the lead in administration would also be pretty fucked up.
And that leads me to my next headcanon!
Similar to Yinu, the Sayu Team has little to no power when it comes to managing Akusuka. They do, however, have full control over Sayu and how she's portrayed.
The reasons are the same as mentioned above - they're too young, lack knowledge and NSR would prefer to be the ones running the whole thing instead from the shadows, etc, etc. It's the same situation as Yinu.
But! To balance things out, though, the Sayu Team was given full creative control over Sayu - her design, her personality, the types of ads she'll be involved with, etc etc. This ensures that Sayu continues being relevant and "hip" with the newer generations, hence her popularity with younger kids and teens. The only reason she hasn't strayed much from her original conception is because all four members are very careful to respect Sayu's roots, being their favorite character and all.
I like to think Remi is the most protective when it comes to Sayu's image, his designs are always in-character for her and all potential collabs/crossovers with other franchises or whatever must go through him first to ensure she doesn't break too much character. I'd even argue that he could be the leader (or at the very least, the much more organized member) of the group, just based on that little moment of him staying calm and planning how to win against B2J while everyone else was panicking.
Tila and Dodo, while they both trust Remi's judgement, believe that broadening their horizons could be fun and better for them on the long run - Tila, as the heart of the group and the voice of Sayu, loves engaging as much as she can with fans, and Dodo just thinks it would be very cool to have Sayu in different media, like fighting games (though it's more of an excuse to show off his motion capture skills).
Sofa and Remi are also the members who care the most about the other mermaids from Doki Doki Mermaid Club. And while Sofa often insists for them to bring them all back somehow, Remi understands that their contract is most likely against it, so he's content just doing fanart for the group.
Since all of them are young and their designs are meant to represent introverted and geeky students, plus taking into consideration their demographic, I could see them use Sayu to speak a lot about important issues like bullying and mental health!
All four members are very close, obviously. But they're also very close to Yinu and her Mama!
This is partially because all adults agree that Yinu should interact with people her age - the thing is, the closest people to her age are the Sayu Team.
I like to think they've become sibling figures to her, and that they're all often lumped together during NSR events. There is also something to be said about Mama and how she just immediately takes the Sayu Team under her wing, since they don't have their parents around 24/7 to support them like Yinu does. Maternal instincts and all.
It's very surprising for citizens of Vinyl City to see Yinu and Sayu doing collabs together, as Sayu is often paired with 1010 due to their similar status as idols, but because of the team's friendship with Yinu, it never feels out of place. The Sayu Team did attempt to keep the myth of Sayu being a real AI, but Yinu was much too perceptive to even fall for it. Besides, she has much more fun composing and coming up with ideas with them than talking to a hologram.
When it comes to their dynamics with other Megastars, I'd say all of them are intimidated by Eve's strong presence - though Remi really looks up to her from an artist's point of view, and Tila admires her confidence. Dodo is a fan of Neon J and practices his dance moves in secret, something that all the other members tease him for. As for Sofa, I can see him asking DJSS about his creative process. The guy runs a club with sick effects, he wants to know how DJSS does it!
All four of them also like 1010, but are in different levels of denial about it, with Dodo openly gushing about his favorite bias (it's Purl-hew, he LOVES Purl-hew) and Remi seething, screaming and crying whenever someone notices that his drawing tablet has 1010 stickers on the back. Sofa and Tila are more in the middle, being casual fans but getting flustered and a little ashamed whenever someone brings it up face to face - they promise they're not like those deranged fans!
You know, like those teens who are into things that the media has deemed cringe and whatnot, so they feel they have to be a liiittle detached and mean about their tastes to avoid being criticized.
Regarding their backgrounds, I like to think that Remi and Tila didn't meet each other face to face until it was time to sign their NSR contract, while Dodo and Sofa went to the same highschool and are childhood friends who made amateur action movies together. It just clicks very nicely to me!
Aspects of the Sayu Team bleed into Sayu and viceversa.
It's small details, like Sayu's dominant hand perhaps being the same as Remi's, or Sayu's casual speech patterns during streams being somewhat similar to Tila's. Maybe her typical gestures are also things that Dodo is known for, and so on. All of it helps make Sayu feel more real to fans.
In turn, there are times in which the Sayu Team find themselves adding Sayu's popular catchphrases into their vocabulary entirely on accident, their wardrobes now full of clothes she would wear. I can also imagine Sofa and Remi having trouble separating their work screens from reality - you know, like when digital artists try to press ctrl+z when doing traditional art. Dodo's is the funniest by far, since he straight up has an idle animation taken from Sayu, but I'd argue that he's a very physical person and needs to be constantly moving somehow. Another contender for funniest slip up is Remi, who will just end up screaming "Pyun!" really loud when excited.
While fans only see the final product, the NSR staff can see all the love and effort that goes into Sayu just by looking at her team! Even Tatiana respects the way they've turned Sayu into their very own personal project, with that initial giddy energy that every content creator feels when starting out and seeing their work pay off.
Should Sayu ever become her own independent AI, I can see every Megastar come together to design a proper body for her.
The Sayu Team are, at the end of the day, a bunch of kids with a dream - their design is the priority, of course, but Neon J and DJSS would be the ones to tweak and work around it, doing their best to ensure proper mobility - both on land and within her streaming hub - and to add all necessary safety equipment. Neon J specifically would be the one to work on her AI, I'd say.
Yinu and Eve would ensure that the aesthetics aren't lost during the building process, finding ways of allowing Sayu to still be recognized by fans but with enough room for changes, should she require them for concerts or events.
I feel like the Sayu Team would prefer for Sayu to only have a single body, instead of endless ones to be replaced like 1010, and they would keep a back-up of her AI in a little pendrive (a nod to Monika from DDLC!). It just makes her feel more real!
And with Sayu being an actual, sentient AI working as a Megastar, I imagine this would pave the way for all the other robots who are fully sentient in Vinyl City to be acknowledged by everyone. So really, it's a win-win!

Hiii, I did another of these <3 this time for No Straight Roads bc my brainrot is going on strong - and I needed a place to properly ramble about my OCs anyway LMFAO. there's even a section for Kliff's briefing menu thingies!
for the relationship chart, I organized the characters based on the areas you find them on in-game, which. really makes you think. YOU'LL KNOW WHEN YOU SEE IT BUT. IT'S JUST REALLY FUNNY TO ME. anyway, pls tag me if you use these, I'd love to see more NSR OCs around!!
It's here if you'd like to use it! Remember to make your own copy -> File -> Make a copy !

Answering My Own Height Questions
Tumblr media
*I want to apologize for everyone being untextured, but I'm too lazy to figure out how to load the textures in Blender. Besides, this should make it easier to see anyway.
While I was poking around, I decided to go ahead and definitively answer my question from a while back about how tall DJSS is.
At a quick glance, the undisputable answer appears to be that he's shorter than Tatiana, but taller than Neon J... barely.
Tumblr media
This doesn't consider the thickness of his helmet (unless you think the helmet is his head), but even so, this difference is so small, that it's easier to say that they're about the same height.
BUT
As we know from the Christmas DLC, DJSS's feet do not sink completely into the soles of his shoes.
Tumblr media
So adjusting for where his feet would actually touch the ground, DJSS is actually shorter than Neon J. by a good couple of inches, but still taller than Mayday.
Tumblr media
(Not that it really matters in fanart, since they're usually wearing their default outfits anyway, so even pointing this out is basically null~)
I also wanted to check Eve against the others, and with heels she's still shorter than NJ and DJSS.
Tumblr media
This shot was taken before I adjusted for shoe height for DJSS/Eve, but with adjustments, DJSS is still just a little taller than Eve (it's about the same difference as Neon J. vs. DJSS with shoes).
So, I've a got a win for short!DJSS, but a loss for 2nd tallest!Eve, UmU. (Tatiana is the tallest member of NSR, not counting *Sayu, who I consider a special case.)
*Sayu is in scale to her B2J battle, meaning she's a giant compared to everyone else, so I didn't include her.
And of course I had to do B2J, Kliff, and Tatiana for my own amusement.
Tumblr media
I didn't order them by height this time, but the grid guide should suffice. It's a little hard to say if Kliff or Zuke is actually taller since their hair is so dense, but considering that Kliff also wears shoes with a heel, I'm gonna err on Kliff being *just* a hair shorter than Zuke, but they're really about the same. However, Tatiana is actually about a whole head taller than Kliff putting him at perfect motorboating height.
I wanted to check the sewer gang too, but their models are not created equal, and I don't think they're in scale with each other.
Tumblr media
Maybe it's just me, or because he's asserting dominance, but Zam seems bigger than he should be, and Gigi/Yiruk look a little smaller than they should be. Robot could be to scale, but I think he looks a little big too.
As my final bonus, I wanted to compare Yinu and 1010 to see how accurate my "Heart and Soul" sketch would have been and...
Tumblr media
Nope. Handholding is basically impossible for them. At best, Yinu might be able to grab one of his fingers, but it'd be straining to do so unless he hunched over. So, it'd be even more impossible in my fic where she's younger and presumably even shorter, and the MKI is implied to be bigger and bulkier.

Hi! Is the AU with the extended DDMC cast as NSRtists called "Project Sayu" or is it "Project Mermaid"? (Since I see both being thrown around) (where the heck did the name even come from?/lh)
I think I've been using Project Mermaid because it encompasses all the mermaids. I might have used Project Sayu at some point or for when talking about early stages of the project (like when Tila and Remi were only working on it before adding Dodo and Sofa, and/or Pav and Gaya).
I think the name came from the OG ask about it. I didn't want to just call it the Sayu project or something that ignored the other mermaids, and I couldn't say Crew because that excluded the Arachnikids for the most part (and JJK Gang if they are in the group).
So I came up with like the Mermaid Project/Project Mermaid and have been calling the Arachnikids and Crew together as members of the project when refering to all of them together!
I think as long as you refer to it with the word "Project" I will be able to know it is this AU that is being talked about.
Oh wait! Actually! I think I should clarify something!
If you are talking about just the OG version, with no other media added to the group, just NSR characters, then the extended DDMC is called just the Mermaid Club (and the Sayu Crew is now just known as the Crew or the Mermaid Crew).
If you are talking about the AU where the Crew, the Arachnikids, and possibly the JJK Gand are the ones making up the extended mermaids, then that specifically is called Project Mermaid or the Mermaid Project.
Otherwise, if you are using Project Mermaid to talk about the Mermaid Club (who have AI and are sentient), then I will get confused and probably think you are talking about Project Mermaid (which are not sentient, as of now, and are controlled by a the Crew, most of the Arachnikids, and most of the JJK Gand).
If you are ever confused on what to use, just do what you did hear and explain the AU and then ask your question! :D

Got any headcanons for the Sayu Crew?
REMI
Tumblr media
this guy is creative as hell !! he loves to create new outfits or even new skin for Sayu
ever since he met Tila, they became close friends as he saw so much potential with her voice and songs
when he met Dodo, he saw how flexible and energic he could be. he doesnt think that even tho its a guy doing a cute mermaid moves, it gives it a bit of a special thing to the finish product
and with Sofa's talent in editing, Remi thinks that Sayu cant be more perfect. he loves his friends and would never in the whole world let them down
in a way, you could say he is the brain of the team by being the artist in Sayu's character and control. he is always the first one to give ideas but never put them on board unless the rest knows itll be good.
in the fight with zuke and mayday, he had to take serious decisions to try and fight back Bunk Bed Junction and to save their cute little Sayu
because he is a creative guy, he has AT LEAST 2 sketch books full to the brim with new ideas for Sayu and even maybe new characters to interact with her! but the gang still thinks its a bit too early and too much work to introduced a second character in Sayu's world. Plus, they think it'll go too much into the Hatsune Miku vibe so they stay with only Sayu
when they got picked by NSR, he was almost jumping to the ceiling so much he was happy that him and his friends were picked
TILA
Tumblr media
Tila is a shy girl that the only way she could think to get less shy, was to show the world her brilliant voice.
when she met remi and saw his talent in art, she was struck with inspiration for this cute mermaid girl! they teamed up right away and made a bunch of cute songs!
she was shy at first with him but he told her that he is her friend and that she can open up to him anytime if she needed, which she slowly got closer to him and was able to have good conversations with him!
as she met the others, she was impressed with Dodo and Sofa's talent. She saw that everyone had their own talents and put together, could make the cutest and most perfect cutecore artist in Vinyl City
she always do a bunch of voice exercises before recordings and even ask the guys hows her voice before recording just to be sure!
she has her own song book that she writes and create new songs almost everyday, but we all get the problem of the white page so, she doesnt mind to ask the guys some help
when they got picked in NSR, she was almost crying from so much happiness she had. they choose them ! and she was her voice ! meaning they liked her voice to be part of NSR !! this day will ever be marked into her head and she even made it a special date for the whole crew to celebrate !
DODO
Tumblr media
this guy took actual dance classes when he was at school before secondary school (not sure how old they are but mayday said they were kids so i assume in secondary school ?)
he is that type of guy who was always in his corner, no friends, not talking to anyone and was always on his phone and reading or checking videos of people slowly trying the cameras tracking apps
when he met Remi, he was really shy to show his moves as he saw Sayu coming together, he even tried to put Sayu's into those VTUBER people as he made her move. Remi and Tila was thrilled and loved how he made her move and dance! That got Dodo so much self-esteem that he got even less shy around the gang
he works a lot more with Sofa about the movements and such because if the crew didnt had Sofa, Sayu's movement would be really weird and her body parts would just go into one another
when they are ready to turn a video, he always does a few stretches and even look how Sayu's new outfit would move so he takes those in consequences to make it more realistic and make her more real
as they work, he needs to be in a air conditioned special room to move as he is dancing. they tried to share the room but he was so much into the song and choreography, that he almost knocked down Remi's computer screen, making him apologized a whole lot to him and even had to take a few moments for himself in his room
when the got picked, he couldnt help but hug all the gang in front of everyone. The gang was so surprised of this new physical affection but they liked it
SOFA
Tumblr media
this guy was the nerd one; always in front of a pc, never really talkative to other people, it was just him and his computer in his life
when he met the gang, he saw a big potential that could be added and joined immediately
he started to program Sayu's movement correctly with Dodo, put Tila's voice not too high in her music videos and even told Remi to add less details cause we would loose them sometimes in the movements !
he saw he could make Sayu even better with more editing and such so he went and took the best editing program on the market he could get himself and did the best music videos with the help of the gang
he is always the one eating to his computer as he pass his whole days on it to edit and make the best out of Sayu's potential
he does, however, a lot of questions to Remi about the environment he would see Sayu in their music videos. He doesnt want to put her into a weird environment where the color scheme doesnt really add up
when they got picked by NSR, he was really happy to see all his friends and himself get picked by professionals. They did a really good work together and he likes his friends more than anything
that day was when he realizes he wasnt alone anymore and that he could trust his close friends to go even further with what Vinyl City would need and love
hope you guys like these little headcanons !!!

NSR Theme Swap AU!
So, since I’m working on a Neon J x DJ Subsup fanfic right now that’s gonna be set in this AU, I figured I should prob outline it.
The idea is that only the themes are swapped - the personalities stay the same. Because I can’t draw for my life, I’m just gonna give a little blurb for each character:
(P.S. I only changed the names of Neon J, DJSS, and 1010 because the others are only going to be loosely referenced as of now and also Neonnova is my obsession 😅. If anyone has any ideas for names for the rest of the gang, feel free to suggest them!) (Also, I’m still figuring Tatiana and Eve out)
DJ Hadopelagic Hotspot - A loner obsessed with the deep sea FROM the deep sea, not that anyone knows it. Devoted to progressing knowledge of the hadopelagic zone, but lacks the necessary scientific background. Suffering from mild traumatic brain injury, but all it really does is obliterate his social tact, though that does make him nearly unbearable.
Neovita - A robot from a distant galaxy created to find planets suitable for the species that made him. Became self-aware somewhere along the way, and struck out on his own on Earth. Mega paranoid that the guys that made him will find him and his boys, and struggles to overcome what’s left of his programming. He works tirelessly to fix the damage done to DOMITORIS’ image during the Rock Revolution.
DOMITORIS - Neo’s five alien sons. They were sent off with him as eggs on the trip where he defected, so he ended up raising them as his own. They can shapeshift, and do so to appear human before their audience and also just because they like it since they were raised on Earth. Their true form gets exposed to their audience in their battle against Mayday and Zuke.
Sayu - Sayu is literally a living flower, though she looks very human. Four teens work behind the scenes to help her show humanity the love they have shown her through music. She’s sort of vain because she’s always been admired for her beauty, but she really appreciates humanity. She wilts as a result of getting smacked around by Mayday and Zuke, and now has to wait to get back to her full size. It’s making things difficult for her district.
Yinu - Yinu is a digital software created in the image of her dead self by her mother who thinks she’s real. The only rule is that no one ever tells the kid she isn’t real. No one knows she isn’t real except for the NSRtists before the Rock Revolution exposes her. Her situation sort of has Astro Boy vibes tbh
Mayday & Zuke - Mayday is the drummer and Zuke is the guitarist. They’re as bad as regular Kliff, and wreak major havoc. The artists had to band together to stop them. They eventually apologize, but the damage is done. As a result, other music is still banned in Vinyl City.
So yeah, that’s the gist. I’ll be making more detailed posts for Neovita, DOMITORIS, and DJHH for sure, but, if there’s interest, I can give some more info on the rest of the gang too.
Let me know if you wanna know more about anyone, and if you have suggestions for the AU!

How many aus Swampy?
-FG
WELLLLLL-
The Percy AU, Eloni runs off when B2J starts rebelling against NSR. Doesn’t rejoin 1010 after the rebellion and instead traverses a multiverse subway station to take in other abandoned/disowned 1010 members.
A Good Kid AU, like the Percy AU, except he DOES rejoin 1010. But he disowns Neon J after the bad fight where Neon called Eloni a mistake (ow ; -;) and now he lives with DJSS permanently. Eventually, he becomes Nova’s apprentice. 1010 go on to V4 and have a new member created to replace Eloni.
No Restart AU, (sounds weird I know-) Eloni finds out that Neon has been resetting his and his brothers’ memories when they finally get tired of Neon’s abusive restrictions on them and fail mutiny after mutiny (This AU, Neon J is strictly their manager. No Dad J, only Bad J). Almost starting another mutiny, Eloni convinces the others not to go through with it and waits until Neon has his back turned to run from Metro Divison and get help from Tatiana. Until they find a way to get to Eve and talk to Tatiana, 1010 are officially a android street gang. Obligatory GreenDay and OnionShipping.
1010 Gang AU, AU AU where the 1010 group are unrelated human/cyborgs/androids. Eloni is the one who’s orphaned and lived on the streets for the longest, so he leads the group with new member Zimelu, who got kicked out by his pos dad. Neon J is the main game’s Border War veteran and instead of running Metro Division, he’s a kindly, yet stern, gardener of Natura that helps 1010.  Eventually, Tatiana pays attention to Neon J and 1010, they knock out a majority of the gangs in Metro Division when some tried to expand into Natura and threaten Yinu.
Warrior Cats Gang(???) AU, this is a two-way AU since both Eloni and Haym are the focus. They meet a book nerd fan who introduces them to new series, especially Warriors. After protecting the book nerd, they fight the assailants with bullshit names (Sunblight and Ivytwist) to push their scary personas and catch the attention of other street kids, and by complete accident create AlleyClan. These kids be playing Warrior Cats in the back streets of Vinyl City.
No Purpose? AU, Haym is stressed out over losing synchronization with the rest of 1010 and starts questioning whether he really wants to be a boyband bot for the rest of his life. Goes off in the middle of the night and saves some homeless kids (The Sayu crew in this AU, before the game timeline) from getting mugged and joins their nightly escapades. He sneaks off and gives them food and money when they need it. (Or ask, Haym really doesn't care about how much money they want, he wants them to afford a hotel room or someplace to sleep FFS) Eventually, he drags them all back to Barraca Mansion and comes clean about his actions at night. Neon is pissed, but he understands Hayms’ concern and takes in the Sayu crew.
Cracked Gold AU, after the main game, Haym has a fight with his bros about how they never take him seriously. (Their roles not being their personalities) He runs off to blow off some steam but gets found by Kliff, who emotionally manipulates him to join the cause that B2J abandoned.  There he meets other musicians that fully believed in the revolution, young artists that Kliff has convinced to join. He gets found out and kicked out of 1010 thought to be a traitor, but at that point, he’s more concerned about saving the other artists before Kliff can destroy their careers. In the end, Haym is given leadership of the rebellion as Kliff again hides in the dark, he basically uses this new power to talk everyone down and help them realize that Kliff was only using them. He gets a S/O in this! A dancer inspired by Eve but mocked out of the Lights Up auditions back before B2J came around.

Sorry if you've been asked this already, but what are your tickle headcanons for NSR?
Alright tickle headcanons, let's goooooo!!!
Mayday: 20% Lee, 80 % Let. Mayday is always one who will tickle you to oblivion to get what she wants, whether it's a burger or to get your disc...! She teases Zuke CONSTANTLY when he's feeling down or trying to prove her wrong, but they're the bestest of buds! She is ticklish on her ears and neck, so poke her there and she will snort and giggle. But then you won't survive the night.
Zuke: 50% Lee 50% Ler. Zuke likes to occasionally tickle people if they're sad or need a pick me up. He adores it when Mayday smiles under his hands and sometimes, he gets revenge for her punching the TVs. But he's a cautious ler, only tickling until someone says stop... Unless he's in a cheeky mood. His spots are his sides and his belly, and especially his back. Tickle up and down his back and he'll melt as well as giggle and squirm, but no one said he won't like it. Teasing him will be a cakewalk, he is easily flustered.
DJ Subatomic Supernova: 80% Lee, 20 % Ler. DJSS isn't one for admitting he's ticklish when he's the most ticklish of the gang. His knees are his weakest spot. Tickle them and he's down. But do be aware when tickling him. He can wrap his arms around you and tickle you until he's satisfied, no matter how much you beg. Mess with his dodo pops... You might wanna sign a will.
Sayu and her team: 100% Lee 100% Ler. Sayu loves to laugh as loves to give laughter. Her tail is the most ticklish if you can catch her. (ehek~!) She will use animals, like a feather jellyfish or bunny slugs against you since she can't physically touch you, but will fluster you BEYOND CAPACITY. Don't know all of the team members names, but the voice actor is major ler, yet has a soft spot on her neck. The control is a tsundere lee, his feet being his worst spot. The artist is a soft lee, his large belly always giving him away. And the movement is just ticklish everywhere.
Yinu and her mom: Mother: Ler. Yinu: Lee. Yinu is always looking for a good giggle or two. She adores teases on dad jokes and cheesy puns and her sides are the worst. However, just don't tickle her while she's performing. Or else... Her mother will come. She will use her roots to tie you down and tickle you without mercy until Yinu's command, and that girl is sadistic. Watch out.
Neon J and his sons-er, troops: All of them; 70% Ler, 30% Lee. Neon J loves his troops and whenever they've done a great job or he's just feeling mushy, he would play hide and tickle with them. They always giggle and give away their positions, whether it's intentional or not. They are all ticklish on their torso. However, they will tickle their boss back, which unfortunately for Neon, he's ticklish everywhere. So imagine one arm holding your hands up while the other hand it tickling your belly two hands on your sides, two under your arms, two around your knees, two tracing your back, and two on your feet. You can't, can ya?
Eve: 40% Ler. 60% Lee. Eve is always feeling a little hurt, so having her be tickled kind of releases some emotion that is always built up inside of her. It also inspires her and she'll even let you tickle her when she's painting. But don't upset her, or she will send hands after you or even use her six arms to tickle you, herself. She taunts, teases, jokes, whatever she can to make you as pink as half of her, even using her art tools because you're her canvass and she NEEDS to get inspiration out.
Tatiana: 90% Ler. 10% Lee. Tatiana won't go after you if she feels like it. She wants to save her energy for those who deserve it; anyone who dares to try and tickle her. Some poke and prod to see if she's ticklish ANYWHERE. Whether she is or not, she'll hide it and chase after you until you run out of breath and your screams will be heard throughout the NSR tower. She does, however, has secret ticklish spots on her elbows. Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna run.

Very Specific Headcanons: NSR Gang's favorite candle scents. DJSS likes earthen, woodsy scents; the Sayu team all like 'cute' scents, mostly florals (they all agree Sayu likes ocean-scented candles); Yinu and her Mother like fruity/floral scents, especially apples and roses; Neon J claims to not have a favorite candle scent (he likes 'clean' scents, like fresh linen); Eve will collect any candle she thinks smells nice; and Tatiana refuses to use candles. (1/2)
tatiana refuses to light candles because if she gets mad they’ll all be melted at once JDDJFGJJSFJ

;NSR DJSS - General Headcanons
Tumblr media
Compilation of headcanons and analysis about DJ Subatomic Supernova and other related things.
Tumblr media
I got an ask asking for DJSS' love languages (don't worry! working on it!) but then it hit me that I don't think enough about DJSS to talk about love languages right away, so I'm getting this out of my system to try and fleshen out the way I write him!
this might be, a BIT TOO LONG BC I GOT CARRIED AWAY RIGHT FROM THE START BC EVE WAS INVOLVED AND I LOVE HER
Tumblr media
The most healthy and solid friendship DJSS has is with Eve.
Eve's post is still fresh on my mind, so it got me thinking about how DJSS and Eve are very similar - like, two sides of the same coin, or two opposites in the same spectrum. But before I get carried away, let's talk about DJSS.
Out of all megastars within NSR, DJSS is very clearly the one with the least amount of connections to other characters, at least in the way he's presented in-game. Like, all of them are connected to NSR and Tatiana because they work for her, that's obvious - but the Sayu Gang have each other, Yinu has her parents, Neon J has 1010, Eve and DK West both have Zuke and Tatiana/NSR respectively. Tatiana has Kliff, the Goolings and Mayday.
DJSS is just. There?
Maybe it's because he's the tutorial boss, but very similarly to Eve, themes of loneliness and not being appreciated enough or understood are prominent in his background. The casettes literally show him spiraling from an underappreciated but very passionate teacher to a very influential but egocentric megastar.
There's just something about how DJSS and Eve share loneliness as a theme. And how both of them also fully embody their work, becoming a personification of their craft and passions so that their self-worth and identity is DIRECTLY tied to how said passions are received and perceived. To others, music and art are simply an extension of themselves, an important part of their lives, not the whole of it. But DJSS and Eve? You can't separate them from their work. Again, the Sayu Gang are a bunch of teens bonding over a shared interest. Yinu is a megastar BECAUSE of her family, not by CHOICE, she plays the piano FOR her deceased father. Neon J is, first and foremost, a war veteran and protector of Vinyl City before he is a musician, even if dancing and music are his passions.
There is also something to be said about how their respective journeys are opposites of each other yet end the same way. They've gotten what they've wanted, but they're stagnant and unfulfilled.
We see DJSS starting as a starry-eyed teacher, thanking the THREE students AND A JANITOR who came to his lessons because he's grateful for anyone who will listen to him. He's using his passion and work to teach others and expand their minds and whatever other cool one-liners he says in his videos and cutscenes. This directly mirrors Eve, who starts as a self-loathing, deeply insecure artist who uses art as a way to cope and vent. (If you read my Eve post, throwback to the duality theme - outside and inside. DJSS is channeling his work to the world, to the outside. He's looking for people who understand him. Nadia is channeling her work to herself, to the inside. She's looking to understand herself.)
The middle part of their whole journey shows a moment of introspection and healing for both of them.
DJSS reconnects with his love for music and the reason he even became a teacher in the first place - not out of love for teaching (which is another point I wanna talk about later in this post) but for a genuine love and intrigue for the universe. After years of trying to get anyone to listen, he finally remembers how it feels to look up at the sky. He finds a way to merge both music and space as a means to further his goal.
Eve heals because she believes she's found someone who can complete her, someone who isn't herself but who can understand and see her just as good. She doesn't hide her pink side, she doesn't hide her face with her hair, she is shown to be very, very lively, excited and intense. This is the moment she realizes she can be understood and loved, all the things she saw as impossible before meeting Zuke. Her art reflects this, she can now focus on something other than hating herself.
(It's very important to me that we remember her heart piece with Zuke is made out of recycled bottles. Both DJSS and Eve were shown to have this thing for helping others - DJSS through teaching and Eve through art.)
And then, their last collectible shows them at their worst.
DJSS has finally managed to be influential enough to have thousands of people actually pay attention to what he's saying. And he explicitly says that, even though he's gotten this far, he feels empty. And he feels empty because all of his work will disappear, because he will be forgotten in a few generations. And we see how music has replaced his love for the universe, it's a subtle shift in which DJSS goes from wanting to learn and teach others about something he's deeply passionate about from wanting his music and hard work to live on forever through space.
There's a metaphor somewhere in there about DJSS' legacy being not his work as a teacher, astrophycisist or even a pillar of the EDM movement - but a few of his songs. Attached to an NSR satellite. Going through the empty void of space.
And then there's Nadia, all alone again. Because she's gotten so comfortable with the idea of being understood, that she expected Zuke to see everything the same way she did, and therefore setting his hair on fire wouldn't be that big of an issue. And this is her worst fear, but it doesn't hurt as much as she thought it would - because she's expected this to happen at some point, even when she was at her happiest with Zuke.
I want to draw a line between this moment and the way their loneliness permeates in their words and actions - DJSS who has tried for years to reach out to like-minded people, finally has an audience that respects him, he still feels unfulfilled and empty. And he further distances himself from everything by setting his sights and his legacy on THE COLD VACUUM OF SPACE. Eve, who has always believed she would end up alone, IS NOW ALONE AND ABANDONED (from her perspective anyways, since it would be unfair to say Zuke was a horrible monster for leaving a relationship this complex) and yet she doubles down on finding someone like her.
DJSS states that no one is able to think like him, no one within NSR shares his ambition nor vision - he's resigned. Eve states that she will bring everyone to her level one way or another - she's desperate. Two sides of the same coin. Two extreme opposites in the same spectrum.
It all boils down to believing that somewhere out there, whether in Vinyl City or the universe, there's someone who can really appreciate them.
The two conceal a sense of inferiority, the difference being that Eve's comes from a place of pure, genuine hatred for herself (if her work can't be understood, she can't be understood. if her work can't be appreciated, she can't be appreciated) and DJSS' comes from a place of blind confidence in his own potential and ideas (if his work cannot be understood, it's because no one has the ability to understand it. if his work cannot be appreciated, it's because no one is sensible enough to appreciate it).
There is also something about how, at their worst and/or when they feel threatened, they seem to switch?
This is most notable in Eve's boss fight, in which she acts condescending and dismissive to both Mayday and Zuke - saying all the things she knows will hurt just for the sake of hurting Zuke. She establishes her superiority over those who can't understand her, similar to how DJSS treats B2J initially. And in DJSS' case, hints of this reversal can be heard in his casettes, already explained above. He somewhat resembles Eve during her final section, a resigned and numb acceptance to being alone.
I think these two would be friends because they would be able to recognize their similarities - not openly address them, mind you, that's too much for either of them to handle - but enough to just chill with each other. There is an underlying feeling of understanding between them, even if all they do is hang out to do superficial things, gossip or rant about work.
And I like to think they're both fine with this arrangement, because sometimes people need relationships that aren't mentally or emotionally exhausting or intense! Sometimes you just need a buddy who shares a similar trauma that neither of you will address and who wants to go bitch about Stacy from HR! It's an unlikely friendship that surprises everyone, but once they stop to think about it, it just makes sense for them to click - at least with the façades they present to the world.
No matter how hard he tries to rebrand, DJSS knows that he'll always be a teacher at heart. Not necessarily a good one, but a teacher anyway.
TOOK ME FUCKING YEARS TO GET TO THIS POINT BUT ANYWAY.
I really like that one post I saw through the NSR tag about how DJSS makes sense as the tutorial boss because he used to be a teacher, we can assume that there was a time in his life where he loved to teach and shape the minds of the future generations. It's a little meta connection that makes sense to me!
And I like to think that this is something that DJSS can't ever get rid of - the need to just teach. It can come across as DJSS not being able to shut his mouth when it comes to telling people why they're wrong and why he's right, but at the end of the day, he's still trying to clarify misconceptions and teach others new things. It just happens through layers and layers of his condescending attitude.
Of course, this also doesn't apply to just teaching, it applies to learning as well.
DJSS strikes me as someone curious and very driven, instead of asking others why, he sets out to find out answers himself - either because it's easier and faster, because he has something to prove, because of he's so full of autism and hyperfixates easily or whatever other reasoning you like the most.
I like the idea of a DJSS who knows his worth and knows he shouldn't bother trying to argue with people who clearly don't care about facts, logic and research, let alone putting the effort to learn or have an open mind - those simpletons who aren't worth his time - but still struggles with keeping his mouth shut.
During his boss fight, he immediately dismisses B2J because they're small fry, they're not even here for him, they're here for inconsequential reasons that he doesn't have time for. Why should he even entertain them? AND THEN HE DOES. HE GETS RILED UP AND JUST GOES ON TO TALK ABOUT HIS ENDEAVORS AND GOALS ANYWAY.
He REALLY reads as a guy who makes the funniest of jokes and can't help but explain them anyway - and he gets away with it most of the time.
Very organized, detail-oriented person, loves routine and to plan things beforehand. DJSS cannot stand spontaneous decisions and has a hard time adapting to sudden changes.
Sometimes it might be easy to forget that DJSS is most likely the smartest member of NSR as a whole, specifically because of the way he acts and presents himself typically - even if he makes a point of constantly reminding others of his intellect and academic achievements. But! Nothing escapes DJSS' keen vision.
Out of other members of NSR, Tatiana trusts DJSS the most to keep up with his responsibilities as charter and many other projects benefitial for the company, like the rocket launch! He's proven time and time again that he's more than competent to be left to his own devices. Even if he doesn't care much for the other megastars, he still shows up on time for meetings and speaks his mind on things that need addressing (that he considers worth addressing, at least), never pulling his punches when offering his opinion.
Literally that kind of annoying coworker that loves to nitpick and someone you don't get along with but who makes the best points and arguments ever.
I like to think this is reflected in his position in Vinyl City - he's the furthest away from the NSR Tower, because he requires little to no supersion at all. He's also closest to the heart of Vinyl City: Festival Plaza and the Grand Qwasa, maybe because he can absolutely take care of any problems that might arise with it.
Even if he's extremely dismissive, DJSS does remember the people he works with - mostly based on their skills and how useful they are, just so he can know who to send away and who to keep around. He doesn't remember your name, but he remembers that you're competent enough to do a quick check on his turntables or other equipment. That sort of thing.
DJSS likes when things go his way, the way he expects things to be, the way he planned them out to be. He thinks of every possible outcome and prepares for it, without going overboard as to hinder his progress. So he can live with someone on his team messing up the rocket launch procedure - because that was already something he expected that would happen, even if he throws a little fit about it. But he can't deal with suddenly being told that someone else will handle the rocket launch entirely - because that's just not a possibility in his mind.
I can see DJSS being a fan of to-do lists or spreadsheets to stay on top of his game. He doesn't need them, he remembers everything he needs to, but hey, it's a fun flex!
I also just remembered one of the interactable things in Cast Tech - a drone that Zuke comments on, saying:
"It must have crashed from all the conflicting signals. DJ Subatomic Supernova really likes the idea of blasting his signal into space..."
Which makes me think that yes, DJSS is great at solving things, he's careful and meticulous, doing anything to ensure his success in whatever he sets out to do - but his tunnel vision makes him careless enough to overlook some of the most obvious things in the world. Like how blasting his own signal might disrupt every other drone in the city or mess with other machines.
And this whole point is totally not me subtly trying to write DJSS in a way that compliments the way I perceive Neon J because I think the ship is fun and their dynamic is even funnier, absoluTELY NOT LETS MOVE ON
Cast Tech is the most academic district in Vinyl City. Basically paradise for nerds.
The same way Eve supports the arts in Dream Fever by having a lot of galleries and art studios, it makes sense that DJSS would support academic endeavors by having schools and other academic institutions, funding people's research and etc. It's another little thing that ties in with his background as a teacher.
In-game, Cast Tech is basically a short main road with two or three paths that lead to small areas. It's very lackluster compared to the rest of districts and I blame that on the way the game is structured, showing the boss first and then the district - plus the fact that DJSS is the tutorial boss so by proxy, he gets less content. But it's serviceable enough for the main plot in the game, which is to show us that NSR can be superficial, shallow and careless company.
And I'd like to argue that, maybe, the area Mayday and Zuke go through within Cast Tech, is not meant to be representative of the entire district. It feels more like an area meant for tourists or general NSR propaganda that ended up flopping massively because people weren't that interested?
DJSS is a megastar, sure, but he's not shown being that much of a public figure outside of advertisement. Compare him to any other member - Sayu and 1010's popularity rely on their fanbase, because they're public figures. Eve is an artist, we also see her dabble in all types of art, not just music, even fashion! Yinu is a literal child, but she's still in advertisements for healthy food and drinks.
Did you notice how Cast Tech and Club Planetarium are the only places that lack NPCs? Unique NPCs to be more exact, like Celine in Dream Fever, Mia in Festival Plaza, Yiruk in Metro Division, etc. People who most likely live there?
Once again, DJSS is an outlier. It makes sense to me that, even though this area has a statue of him and a store selling products based on him, literally just revolving around him, playing his advertisements and etc it's not... That important overall within his district. Even the Planetarium where he hosts concerts has a bunch of small stores outside, nothing grand. Even though it's HIS district, he's NOT the focus, ironically.
I would love to get into details about how the actual district works and what goes around, but I dropped out of my bachelor's degree and I don't know enough about science to get super in-depth about it! So anyone who DOES know or wants to develop this more, feel free!

on the subject of hanahaki disease x NSR, I'm specifically thinking about how it applies to Yinu and her mom since they're. plant beings to an extent?
putting this under a cut because it got a bit too long and it turned into mostly an analysis lmfao
like, for example, Mama's most prominent trait is the fact that her hair changes into branch-like tendrils when angry, so I assume hanahaki would be harder to recognize because. they're already plants. changing radically, coughing up petals, growing flowers and stems or whatever wouldn't be too alarming for them in GENERAL? since those things already happen with their different moods and emotions, perhaps even health, so how does extreme repression look like? growth of invasive plants that they certainly shouldn't have maybe? symbolic flowers for the type of things they're repressing? a slow process of decay? something else?
LIKE. HEAR ME OUT. OK. I HAVE A THOUGHT PROCESS IN HERE SOMEWHERE. BEAR WITH ME
Mama as a character is so very interesting, because she's clearly an attentive, loving and protective mother - but at the same time, she and Yinu represent the concept of young prodigies forced on the spotlight by parents who live vicariously through their kids
maybe Mama is aware of hanahaki disease, but hasn't experienced it herself because she already has an outlet for all of her feelings - her own daughter. whether she does it on purpose or not is up to you and how you like to characterize Mama, but personally I like to think is something she does unconsciously specifically because Yinu takes so much after her father. IF YOU LOOK AT THEM SIDE TO SIDE? the only things that Yinu and her mother have in common are the forehead markings and the possibility that Yinu's hair might be actual flowers, like Mama's branch-like hair.
"But the rose motif-" PAPA. TAKEN FROM PAPA. THE GOLDEN ROSE IS ATTRIBUTED TO HIM AND THEN INHERITED BY YINU. I don't think they outright say this anywhere, but the implication that the piano Yinu plays used to belong to her father explains her attachment to it and why their entire fight ends when it's broken (you could even argue that the roses on Mama's outfit were influenced by Papa, since she goes from a white dress with yellow roses to a black dress with red roses after his death, yknow. mourning widow and all)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the last picture is taken from this official tweet, drawn by one of the concept artists of the game!)
but back on track, the point I was trying to make here is that I think Mama unconsciously projects all of her feelings about losing her husband through Yinu. instead of the usual "I want to be famous, so I will make my child famous", it's more of a "I'm keeping the memory of Papa alive through our daughter" vibe? if that makes sense?? and that's why Mama presents as this very collected woman who can, and will lose control if angry - because she's not used to repressing.
which then takes me to how that affects Yinu, my favorite subject ever.
they both bond through music because it's the legacy that Papa left them, but taking into account Mama's overbearing and overprotective nature towards Yinu, using her as an outlet and whatnot, that definitely. has consequences.
I vaguely remember the devs at some point saying that Natura, the lungs of Vinyl City, has a lot of crystal domes around because they represent Mama's desire to keep Yinu safe since Yinu is represented as a flower? but take that with a grain of salt since I can't find the source rn </3 (still, I love thinking about each charter's relationship to their own district and all so I'm eating that up anyway) and it's obvious that the puppet themes allude to the fact that Yinu has no control over her career and/or life.
there's also the thing about Yinu being. INCREDIBLY SMALL. LIKE. LOOK AT HER. SHE COULD STRAIGHT UP FIT INSIDE DJ SUB'S SHOE OR SOMETHING. yeah, she's 9 years old and it makes sense for her being small, but I wonder. what if this is how hanahaki manifests for Yinu?
Tumblr media
she's visibly small and lacks any sort of presence when compared to everyone else because she's, essentially, carrying her mother's emotional baggage. she's actively being smothered and kept from properly growing because of it. and Yinu is much too young to properly recognize her mother's actions as harmful - this is her mother, she might be scary when angry, but she loves her all the same. someone her age probably does as told with one thing in mind: to make her loved ones happy.
hanahaki affects her because Yinu is confident, in her skills and in the way things are supposed to be. she plays and the entire district, NSR and Mama are happy - so I imagine she would struggle with the idea of being unhappy when nothing is physically hurting her. with the idea that her loved ones are putting her in situations that make her uncomfortable and all. like. come on. shes literally a child.
and maybe that's why it's so hard to notice the signs of hanahaki within Yinu, because she's stagnant. nothing changes, she doesn't grow or develop, she remains the same and that's exactly why it goes unnoticed, nothing is visibly affecting her. that's why Mama doesn't realize anything is wrong for a long time. until the stress of hanahaki starts to actually take a toll on Yinu, with the accumulated stress and repression affecting her body - maybe her petals start to fall or and no one understands Why. maybe her plant abilities start growing inwards instead, taking root in her organs and such. something something, plants will always find a way to adapt and grow under harsh conditions

Eh, I’ll bother making original cover art when I make the compilation.
Anyway, just finished this one too. Because it’s already so fast and chaotic, I couldn’t really add any of my signature “game layering” segments without it getting too crazy, but I think I still mostly succeeded in making it get progressively more difficult.

I is back to output some more into the JJK NSR madness/hj (Thank you so much love love/j)
Suguru's family do not have his powers or any powers, so his family is "normal". This is one of the reasons why Satoru's family is so unsupportive of Satoru and his relationship. Also yes, their friendship/relationship was doomed from the narrative in canon JJK.
Miles and Gwen helped Satoru realize that he can always go "Nah. Imma do my own thing." Maybe he cuts off his toxic snob family or goes Low Contact with them after they return to Japan.
Fortunately, Yu and Suguru's family are amazing people, so he has a very good support system now.
Yu came out when in elementary school, but transitioned when he entered middle school. He has been very cheerful ever since, as he is just so happy to be living as a boy.
Speaking of supporting systems, Suguru from Canon JJK goes down a dark and troubled arc of corruption, but he doesn't here bc of the support system that he has of friends that he newly made.
One of the reasons why Nanami dislikes his 30 percent skin condition is due to the fact that one of his grandparents is Danish. It reminds him of the fact that he will never be fully Japanese or Danish. (It doesn't help that Nanami is 25 percent Danish, and his skin is 30 percent another color.)
Speaking of Danish, Nanami can speak a bit of Danish and understands German. (A bit.) Maybe Noir and Nanami can communicate since Yiddish and German are quite similar.
Yu and Peni bonded due to their love of Sayu. Yu got into mer via his sister. (What is with it Sayu and attracting trans fans/j?)
Yu, Peni, Margo and Gwen watching Sayu lives on TV. It can get wild.
(I personally HC Peni as genderfae and Margo as genderqueer so yes they are in the trans umbrella.)
Suguru has their hair braided sometimes by Margo. It is a simple braid, and Satoru loves watching his bf's hair getting done. So silky...
Suguru found out about the nonbinary identity from Noir/Miles. They decided to try it out, and now they identify as such.
Shoko in the same vain, but it is unlabeled as of now.
(If anything they are close to being agender, like Noir.)
Shoko is really curious about how Porker works as an elemental pig. It scares Porker, although Shoko means no harm.
Satoru, Suguru and Hobie got into an awful fight. It ended in them getting into detention.
DJ sub is going to LOVE Satoru if he gets to know the spoilt yet genuine kid with love for space.
Satoru, Suguru and Shoko (called SaSiSu by fans) are 16-17. (Highschool grade 2). Nanami and Yu are 15-16. (Grade 1)
In the power Revolution, the JJK gang kept counselors on other floors from coming into the arachnikids fighting Miguel scene. They kept literally hundreds of adults at bay. (After all, Satoru and Suguru call each other "the strongest", and that applies here too.)
I feel like a kid again doing that thing with imagining all my favorite shows together in one big world...
Welcome back with your JJKNSR! Can’t wait to read and respond when I can! (also my reading comprehension today is not good lol, so my response to at least one of the points is very messy).
-Suguru’s family: Oh that is interesting. To have someone with very dangerous/super unique powers that doesn’t come from a family line. That would be a pretty rare scenario, especially if the whole family history is powerless (unlike if it came from a grand or great grandparent and just skipped a few generations which is a lot more common).
It would also make for a neat story to talk about how Suguru was able to learn how to control his powers in the first place since he didn’t have anyone to actually help him but he seems to have a fairly good control over them. Maybe Satoru and Shoko were big helpers in that, or maybe Suguru just has a natural ability of control over his powers. Either way, him having powers and the family wanting to uphold a “normal” appearance would definitely cause a rift in the relationship.
[WAIT HOLD ON!]
I think you might have meant to say Satoru’s family doesn’t have powers and not Suguru? Because the next point (which I was just trying to answer) says Satoru and the point after that (which I glanced at) says Suguru’s family is amazing. So by deduction I think you meant Satoru.
I actually like the idea of it being switched, so like how I originally thought it was, because Satoru’s powers of manipulation of matter and space and stuff just seems more like a familial power that would be passed down than power absorption. But if you want Satoru’s family to be the “normal” one then let me try to come up with something.
Definitely that is why blue became the leader of the group with Suguru and Shoko, so that blue could get away from blues family and be “normal” in blues own way with powers……..
[Okay no wait, I’m just super fucking stupid lol. My reading comprehension is piss poor right now (how dare we piss on the poor). I understand now. Satoru’s family doesn’t like Suguru’s because Suguru comes from a family with no powers. This makes my earlier/first version of point the valid one. Well mostly valid, ignore the second part lol]
So yeah, Suguru’s powers are something completely out of nowhere in his family, and even though he had powers, because of his family history Satoru’s family doesn’t like him (probably don’t even think they are “real” powers honestly). Maybe this can be like a Romeo and Juliet story of star-crossed lovers, since they are from two families who disapprove of each other (maybe Suguru’s family is just afraid of what Satoru’s fam can do or something).
-”My own thing:” Depending on things, I can see these three being a good representation of how to handle familial relationships (maybe good is not the word? idk). But like, Miles is in full contact with his family while Gwen is (at the moment of the AU) no contact with notes family, and Satoru is possibly on low contact.
I can actually see Gwen and Satoru switching contact roles, with Gwen on low contact and Satoru on voluntary no contact. Gwen just needs some time from notes dad once they both make up (and this is when she visits Vinyl City maybe) and Satoru realizes how much blues relationship with blues family has messed blue up and blues relationship with blues friends like Suguru (well more than friends but you know lol).
-Support system: That’s good that Satoru has a good support system! But that makes me wonder, are Yu and Satoru friends in canon? Or are they more teacher/student? Because I took the relationship as teacher/student which made me think Satoru and Yu wouldn’t have been friends in this AU, at least not at the beginning. Them becoming friends in Nueva York is something that could be a good story line to have and help Satoru get even more support to possibly cut contact (or at least go low contact) with blues family.
-Coming out: This makes me think of the phrase “boys will be boys” but the right way to use it like about getting dirty and playing with bugs (not to excuse shitty men) so like Yu being able to do a bunch of traditionally boy things as a kid and teen without much backlash because of his family is a nice thing to think about (also just thinking about beetle battling which is apparently, or was, a very popular pastime for kids in Japan).
-Support/Corrucption: I mean… he’s kinda corrupted right now with the scheme he, Satoru and Shoko were doing, but it’s probably not nearly as bad as the canon corruption arc. At least in this one he has friends and family (which makes me wonder if his family even knew about his little power absorbing scheme with the other two. Because kids from good families do sometimes become bad people or do bad things, so it could be something he hid knowing that his family would disapprove).
-Nanami heritage: I can see that being a problem for him. Also because of Japan not being the most inclusive when it comes to mixed races (at least from what I’ve heard, Japan can be pretty racist). So those two things definitely would combine and make Nanami upset at himself and especially for the visual reminder (even though I don’t think that specific kind of skin condition would be related to race or whatever, just random genetic mutations or passed down genes, but it would still be a visual reminder for Nanami even if it didn’t actually correlate).
-Danish/German Language: I didn’t know Yiddish and German were similar! I looked it up and they are! That’s pretty cool! Makes me think a bit of like people in Italy being able to speak with Spanish people (I think those two were the language, it might have been Portuguese and Spanish, either way it was two European languages that were close enough that two people could have a conversation without actually knowing the other’s language).
But that would be really cool, and probably really funny to see for some people. Noir speaking Yiddish and Nanami speaking German but still being able to understand and hold a conversation.
-Sayu Bonds: Love the idea that Yu knew of Sayu a bit just because ze was a celebrity, but then was absolutely bombarded with Sayu knowledge and lore because of his little sister getting into it and just infodumping on him. He obviously didn’t mind and ended up really liking Sayu a whole lot, so that definitely helped Yu and Peni become friends (as well as Gwen who would do notes best to also chat Sayu with Yu).
And it’s definitely because of mers color. Sayu is just a swimming trans flag lol
-Sayu TV: That meme of all the guys watching (most likely) sports and then get super excited, but it’s Yu, Peni, Margo, and Gwen hehehe
-Genderfae and -queer: Hell yeah! Another genderfae headcanon! Peni and Carna using fae/faer pronouns! (Peni also using kit/she as well, multi pronoun Peni lol. But this is funny you say that because I was gonna start drawing Peni and Carna interacting at some point lol).
As for genderqueer Margo I don’t have a lot to say because I still don’t have an amazing understanding of genderqueer, but I think that’s honestly the point. Like it’s kinda supposed to be confusing and stuff, which is good. It’s also like an umbrella term in itself which is really nice. Honestly with this headcanon I want to draw Margo in a suit for some reason :3
-Braids: For some reason I can see Margo starting to do a protective hairstyle braid without thinking about it (like in a brain fog moment while braiding) and then having to undo it because it was putting way too much pressure on Suguru’s scalp. But otherwise she is definitely having fun doing braids (and trying to do braids on anyone else, even people with short hair like Gwen and Peni who get little mini braids that are like barely an inch long)
-NB Suguru: Good for them! I can see them definitely having questions and probably asking if they are doing the “whole nonbinary thing” correctly or not, and just having to learn to relax and just go with the flow and be who they are. There is no right or wrong way to be nonbinary.
-Unlabelled/Agender Shoko (2 points): Shoko, being in the same vein as Suguru, probably also thought it had to act a certain way to justify its feelings (like sure, both of them might FEEL like they are outside the gender binary, but they both think they might have to ACT a certain way for it to be valid, which is not true and the two learn that).
Shoko and Suguru trying to ask questions through Peni to Noir will probably get tiring for Peni but fae is happy to help because these two have a LOT of questions (and probably not a lot of access to internet at the moment in Nueva York given their reasonings for being there).
-Porker and Shoko: (I know I said Porker was probably like Ellie, but I don’t know if I want to keep that. Him being an elemental pig is probably something I want to keep, or whatever the term would be called then it’s an animal and not a non-animal. Because like, there are definitely plant and space elementals, but like Mama and Yinu also have snake… something in them. I don’t think it would be called “elemental” but that’s a whole different discussion for another ask. Porker has the same thing going on as Mama and Yinu except his is as a pig).
Okay, I kinda find it funny if Porker was scared of Shoko, but not scared of Olivia. I have no idea why this would be the case, but it’s funny to me so it’s probably what is gonna happen lol. But also because of this, Porker’s powers won’t really work on Shoko because they can’t find the humor or funniness while being too scared.
Hopefully though, Porker realizes Shoko means no harm and starts to trust it (maybe it’s like a Marceline and Jake situation from Adventure Time, where Jake was terrified of Marceline and then the two became good friends by the end of the series).
-Detention: Okay, kinda off topic, but if you know the movie “Sky High” (absolutely love that movie) there is a room where no powers work and that is the detention room. I love the idea that Nueva York has this kind of room where they put people who get into fights with their powers and make them talk out their feelings.
Also, I actually think Hobie would be able to talk a little bit with Satoru, Suguru, and the rest because it hung around Ex-Jay a lot. Its Japanese is definitely not fluent or anything, but it can carry a conversation fairly well. I can see that being a major factor in why it, Satoru and Suguru got into a fight.
Hobie didn’t like one of their attitudes (probably Satoru, but honestly probably both of them), called them out in broken Japanese, and the three started arguing which then turned into a fight. Hobie using vibrations and sound to mess up Satoru’s manipulation powers (like blue tries to make or change something but it’s interrupted by a sudden change in matter with Hobie’s sound manipulation) and the sound keeps Suguru away or messes with their absorption power so that they can’t try and shoot back Hobie’s powers to it.
Also, I think Hobie would know a lot better how to fight, and fight dirty, than either Satoru or Suguru. Suguru comes from a good and loving family who probably never had them get into a fight and Satoru is from a prestigious and well known family who never got into a STREET fight (I can see blue having fighting lessons but if you don’t know how to apply those fighting techniques, especially against a power you don’t know about, then your practice isn’t getting you far). So the fight being a 2-on-1 isn’t as bad as it could have been, especially with the powers at play. If Hobie was anything other than resourceful and creative, I can see it being easily beaten and hurt pretty badly by Satoru and Suguru (even if it was an accident to go that far).
-DJ and Satoru: Honestly, it would be funny if Nova didn’t think Satoru would want to talk about space because blue is part space elemental. Like that would be a rude thing to assume, that everyone who is an elemental just loves that element/topic a lot. So Nova doesn’t really initiate space talk at first, but once Satoru starts off asking questions you know Nova goes full teacher mode and is explaining a ton of stuff (which, if he is around, might get Neon to start talking to, which would then get Peni and Margo into the conversation, bada bing bada boom, the whole group are working on making hypothetical space tech together lol).
-Ages: Oh neat! Because I was trying to get a better grasp on these characters and for some reason (probably the official ages I think) kept thinking the SaSiSu group were more like mid-20s in this AU (also where does the Si come from? Sa comes from SAtoru, and Su comes from SUguru, but where does the Si come from in Shoko? Or is it just a fan thing? idk).
Anyway, good to know both ages and a way to call the specific group SaSiSu without having to write out all three of their names over and over (and we can just use JJK gang like you do in the next point for all 5 of them).
-Revolution: You know that does make a lot of sense actually. There has to be a reason why the counselors weren’t able to stop the revolution. There are quite a few counselors, more than the number of Arachnikids, and it’s not like ALL the patients in Nueva York revolted with the Arachnikids.
In the OG AU, what happens is that a lot of the counselors were convinced by Miles and Jonathan to stand down and the ones that didn’t got knocked out or restrained so the kids could fight Miguel 1 vs. however many Arachnikids there are. But in this AU, the JJK could be the ones to stop the counselors, and with their powers more counselors probably would try to fight since something like color manipulation isn’t as big a deal as total space and psychic manipulation, so they couldn’t all just sit out (some still did, I forget the names of them, but there was an ask earlier saying which ones sat out and which ones didn’t and I still hold that to be true).
Also, a little unrelated, but I like the idea that Jonathan and Olivia fight during the power revolution. Like Jonathan is helping everyone get up to Miguel. Then the JJK gang has to split off to hold off the counselors. And then Jonahan has to split off so he can take care of Olivia who has special tech that Peni can’t mess with. Finally the Arachnikids come face to face with Peter who just tries to talk to them but doesn’t fight them (maybe he has Mayday Parker with him) and finally the Arachnikids get to Miguel.
Literally if you think that NSR is a boss rush, this revolution is much more of a boss rush lol. Honestly I kinda see it like a Naruto game I had for the GameCube. It was basically a street fighter game (so like side profile) and once you beat the fight you progress the story. So like if this was a game you would fight as each group, or one person from the group (so it has replayability if you want to play as Shoko or Yu or someone), and then move on to the next stage and play as someone from that selection. Once you beat the game you can play as anyone from any selection without a cap (so like playing Miles to fight the counselors or Satoru to fight Olivia).
Rambling of possible game mechanics aside, I do really like the idea of the JJK gang being the ones who hold the counselors back!
_______________________________________
Okay! That was fun! Also literally makes me want to watch the show or read the manga so I can actually put these characters in my personal AU version lol. Unfortunately I probably won’t because I am lazy, but honestly just talking about this has made me pretty invested in these characters who I know nothing about, so I hope this is even MORE fun for you because you actually know these characters a lot!
And I’m really glad you are having fun talking about this. It’s super nice to hear other people’s ideas and seeing people combine media. There’s been plenty of crossovers I know only one media or even nothing about but love seeing or reading just because the people making it are having fun. So keep having fun mixing and matching medias lol!
