Ao no Flag (SERIES FINALE SPOILERS!!)

Seriously, don’t read this if you are planning to read Ao no Flag. That being said, go read the manga now!!

Finally finished reading Ao no Flag and I have so many feelings. Non-coherent, rambly, messy feelings. I was looking at reactions online and what mainly boggles me about the reactions to the final 2 chapters is people being “how is Taichi suddenly gay??” My friend living on this big planet he never was (he’s bi). He most likely just realized it later in life. Did the events of his 3rd HS year help him figure it out? Heck yes. Is he suddenly bi? No.

Not all queer people pop out into this world and instantly know they are queer. Heck, it took me 23 years to figure that out. It’s not like Taichi instantly realized he likes Touma and started dating him. He knew Touma mattered to him somehow, but it took him multiple years to realize how, as evident by him maybe starting his relationship with Touma after 5 years when Touma contacted them all. He gained life experience and grew.

People go through a lot of learning, unlearning and growing. Especially if you are outside of societal expectations and norms. Taichi grew up learning to and wanting to blend in with society. “Be normal, don’t stand out too much”. Add to that low self-confidence and you feel stuck. Feel like there is only black and white. only one right answer to life. It can be very difficult to look out of this dark box, trust me, I had a tough time and sometimes still do. But it feels like Taichi thought and thought and pondered even back in high school and came to the decisions that he did.

And isn’t that what the series is about? growing as a person, making mistakes, learning, allowing yourself to be visible and vulnerable, and eventually, making choices, even if they don’t make sense to anyone else, and continuing to do so?

These two pages really hit me hard and I was wondering why. And then it hit me. This is possibly the happiest I’ve seen Taichi be since his childhood. Like genuinely happy. He’s reached max happiness points and is sharing those with Touma. He’s made his choices, and he’s happy. You can and are allowed to choose what or who makes you happy.

That’s all that matters.

But despite thinking Green Lantern showed up, she still says "Hal Jordan was going to show us some magic card tricks, weren't you, Hal?" despite like calling it lame compared to Green Lantern earlier it's just so sdlfkgjnsfgkhsnfghsfghfhdfgh

#cats #(medical stuff mention for tags) #poasting confortable image of boye for peace and serenity and such forthe #I have little weird episodes sometimes where I get shaky (but like violently like 'would spill a drink if you were holding it beacuse #your hands are moving so much' type shaky) and weird and sick feeling but usually it passes in an hour or less. but last night I just #literally couldnt sleep I was shaking so much and my heartrate was up a ton and wouldn't go down even after like 6 hours plus super nausea #so I went to the hospital and now shall wear a heart monitor for a week. which hopefully it's just some weird drastic low blood sugar #event or something and there's nothing actually going on. ekg + ct scan for blod clots + virus panel + almost all of the blood work seems #normal so... aa....... #Though me being so privacy focused hrggh... I basically have a constantly bluetooth connected device around me #since the monitor comes with a cell phone that is constantly transmitting data to the place. which they said they'll call you #if they see anything weird which is also scary. random phone calls... but definitely better than letting an issue go unadressed lol #the phone is also not meant to be more than 10 feet away from the monitor at any time so I put on this old tactical fishing #vest thing thats like navy green with 100 pockets and im just using one of the giant pocketson the side as a phone holder #my enormous silly vest just to keep one little phone #ANYWAY... because I got up early the morning before and didn't sleep at all and spent nearly all day in waiting rooms and such #I have been awake for like 32 hours striaght. which I'm sure also does not help with an elevated heartrate lol #feeling shrimp emotions or whatever people talk about unlocking at a certain level of stress and sleep deprivation #and also no food or water. after a while they brought me like 3 saltines and some ice water but I basically also haven't eaten since 3am #last night and it's 2pm now.. #thus............ bapy............. baby boye....... he will help ease all ailments with his baby powers... #And no I dont drink energy drinks or anything with caffiene really I'm afraid of all substances on the planet essentially #My body just likes to become shaky and weird randomly even when I'm not conciously anxious about anything/have had no caffiene/etc #and I guess I'm always more nervous about getting anything heart related checked out because of my arm/shoulder/chest area injury stuff #... i literally have constant chest pain all the time. it moves around but i nearly always have some sort of pain or pressure in my chest #so when people are like 'oh well a little weird heartrate is fine but watch out if you have pain!' it's like... i always do lol.. how am I #supposed to tell the Bad Pain apart from the Always Pain when the descriptions of Bad Pain are very very similar #AAAANYway.... hrghh... i wanted to be very productive and finally post drafts and wrok on things today. but alas.. #I can at least post small image of soft boye.. though he recently got into stuff in the bathroom whilst left #alone and knocked things into the toilet.. That moment when you’re writing something quite positive as a totally informal manga reaction, skipping over one single small visual detail because it was both so insignificant you didn’t even notice it at first, and it would also contextually be so heavily overshadowed by something far more important everywhere around it, only to log on somewhere one fateful day and see that it is precisely said detail which has become gospel, despite the fact that it makes rather little sense in canon.

Ah well, I say as if I were to let it go, knowing very well the tags will be another literary work again.

I know this is a blog focused mainly on athy (as it should) but I would like to ask you if you know what is the official flower of jennette? The other day I saw a person who uploaded an image of the Athanasia paper doll and there was the rose - which we all know is the official flower of athy - but there was also a paper doll of Jennette with a yellow flower (I think it's zinnia but i'm not sure) and that caught my attention because if on athy's page she was with her official flower, wouldn't that mean that is also jennette's official flower? I know it's not relevant to you but how do you know so many things I wanted to know if you know if spoon ever talked about a flower that she related to jennette how did she do it with the other characters or not? Sorry for bothering 😣

Oh, about the flowers on the paper doll book, the answer is way less exciting than I would like to tell you. The thing is... all pages have the same couple of layouts. Athy also has pages with the yellow flowers. So while i.e. the baby Athy dolls are obviously paired up with her little bags of jewels, or the teen Athy dolls with roses and the lotuses from the lake, the Jennette dolls also have mostly the same decorations (probably because she doesn't have that many character-unique props? If that makes sense. I recall her having the ribbon she gifted Athy though).

To my knowledge, Spoon has never talked about a flower that fits Jennette, and since she doesn't have a lot merch (such as, the character pins for Athy and co., that used flowers in their designs), it's kind of hard to give an answer based on canon material. But I think that the most obvious answer would be daisies (aka Margaritas), because of her last name (Margarita or Magrita depending on the translation). I'm almost certain she has a couple of panels with daisies too, and I do associate them with her.

I want to think that Plutus chose Margarita as her last name on purpose, since Athy is named after a flower (as well as Lily) (I know her name matters most because of the immortal meaning, but there's no way Plutus didn't find out it's also a flower while researching it. It's literally on the Wikipedia page). Here is a fun fact: Athanasias (the flower) and daisies come from the same genus or flower family!
