I always wondered why I heard old people here in America say things like "I'm sorry for you" when a parent says they are expecting a girl. (not all of course but you would be surprised how many I've encountered with this mindset)

I know it is obviously rooted by misogyny just how in some other countries they say girls are "easier" than boys. They are not easier, people just decide to control them more.

They are not more difficult either, children are children, when they have tantrums is because they don't know how to properly communicate their discomfort, but parents often punish it instead of trying to communicate.

But I think I finally understand why people in some places tend to say girls are "worse"

Because they judge and blame girls and women for EVERYTHING, they put all this weight on their shoulders and watch them crack, and instead of helping they just say "why are you being so difficult?"

ok here’s what i imagine for mike’s version of the destruction of castle byers/‘stupid. so stupid’ scene:

what if it was like, after the byers moved away mike has a really terrible day at school. he feels really shitty about himself and his life and he really just feels stuck. after going through so much, trying to care about his life is so hard, honestly even harder after the byers left. he misses how things used to be while also needing things to change.

he's been suppressing his emotions, hiding his true self from his friends since at least the previous summer. and he's kind of at a loss. he feels so lonely and all the pressures in his life are building up so much. so he decides to call will, just to hear his voice, just to feel a little bit like himself.

when he does, it doesn't reach a busy signal! joyce picks up. but mike, being swept up in his emotions forgot about the time difference, and will is still at school. joyce assures him that she will tell will to call him back.

he gets more and more worked up as he waits, suddenly feeling very insecure and anxious about the call. what kind of lies or half-truths would he have to tell will so that el didn’t find out how he’s feeling? what if will had replaced him, while mike feels lonelier than ever? and a quieter, more hopeful, but equally nervous, thought: what if he hasn't? 

what if will has missed mike just as much? has felt lost in a new place, and wished to come back to hawkins? also wished for something new?

he keeps checking his watch, doing the math, staring at the basement phone when they should be back from school. no call. well, ok, he might’ve joined a club! that’s cool, mike wants to hear all about it anyway. another hour passes. and, that’s okay, it’s close to dinner time too. he might not want to call back when he’s right about to eat dinner! and then maybe it’s homework that keeps him from calling back? or does will have a job now? how old do you have to be to work in california, anyway? maybe joyce just asked him to do a few chores first...

or maybe… maybe will doesn’t miss mike, at least not the way that mike misses him. maybe he’s with a new best friend, making new inside jokes and telling each other secrets. maybe he still hasn’t forgiven mike for what he said that rainy summer day. mike never was able to properly apologize to will. not in a way that could really show how sorry he was. 

mike has never felt so childish, lonely, impossibly sad. how could everything get so screwed? why did he have to go and fuck up what meant the most to him? all his anxieties, sadness, confusion, everything, just overflows at once. he’s crying angry, frustrated, hateful sobs. ripping up his homework, his last story, any paper nearby; tearing the phone off the wall and hitting his head with his hands. he just wants to escape this. he can’t live a moment longer in his own mind and he hates who he has become.

Just went to Cracker Barrel for the first time ever. It was bad. The chicken was dry, the biscuits were lumps of sourdough nothing, even with butter, and the green beans tasted just sour enough to be extremely off-putting. Very disappointing.
