Author Note: Here’s the 3rd part to the helping hand series. I decided to do a shorter one this time but make it a slower build up and much more drama. Do you guys think I should perhaps do some Christmas or New Years special for this one?

“Wait, (Y/n) is coming back soon?” Shalnark says, repeating what Clara had just said. He quickly stops his typing to look at Lara and Clara checking to see if they were messing with him or not. It had been almost 2 weeks since (y/n) had taken a paid leave after the incident with Jeremiah. She had stopped by a bunch of times during the first week to check up on Shalnark but had soon stopped visiting when Clara and Lara reassured her that they would personally take care of Shalnark in her absence.
“She sure is! I just got a call from her saying she’ll be coming back in a week, though it is a night shift so you won’t see her until later in the day.” Lara says, nudging him and wiggling her eyebrows. Clara looks at the two before going back to her task while shaking her head, knowing what was about to happen next.
A thick hostile bloodlust fills the room as Shalnark smiles over to Clara. Though it was anything but friendly.
“H-hey I was just joking Shal-l. Come on we are buds, aren’t we?” Lara chokes out, moving away from the man.
“I don’t believe I stated that.”
“Ahh come on—“ A giggle cuts Lara off. Confused, she turns to stare at the new woman who had entered the room. With furrowed eyebrows, Lara looked at Clara who only returned the same confused face back. Who was this woman? It was obvious she was a nurse, but her uniform was that of someone who was located in the NICU. She had no business being in this room.
“Umm who are you?” Clara asks, looking between Shalnark and the woman. Shalnark only shrugs in response, seeming to also not know who she is.
“Oh, how rude of me. I’m Moxxi, I just came in to check up on our little patient here.” She responds cheerfully but her full attention seemed to be on Shalnark not the other two. Strutting past Lara, she leans over and puts a hand on his forehead. Ever so slightly, the three watch as she purposely sticks out her cleavage towards Shalnark. “I’m just going to check you for your temperature, okay?”
The other two glare at Moxxi, highly annoyed, but Shalnark just continues smiling, afterall, many years of practice wouldn’t cause him to break in a time like this. Though, in his head, he was thinking about how she might actually be the most shameless woman he had ever seen.
“I’m afraid I’m going to have to stop you there.” Clara speaks up, fixing her glasses in slight annoyance as she does so.
“What do you mean? I’m a nurse. I doubt you two cafeteria workers are fit for a job…,” Moxxi mockingly looks the two up and down before continuing, “...such as this one.”
Both flinch and glare at her more but before they can even have a chance to rebut Shalnark cuts them off. “These two are friends of mine and have been taking care of me for a couple of weeks. So far, I think they have been doing a great job at taking care of me.”
Moxxi attempts to cut Shalnark off but he just continues on, “Though on the other hand, it is quite unnerving for you to attempt to take care of me when your shirt clearly says you are part of the NICU. I think you should run along and go back to your actual job, someone might actually need you.”
A silence falls upon the room as Shalnark looks at Moxxi in the eyes, challenging her to disagree with what he was saying. The three of them thought she would have begun to run out of the room like the other nurses but for some reason, her laughter suddenly fills the room.
“You're cute. I’ll come visit you some other time.” With one last touch on Shalnark’s shoulder, Moxxi finally leaves the room. Though as she leaves, it was clear to everyone in the room that her actions had caught Shalnark off guard as he freezes in his spot.
Once the door of the room finally shuts, Lara finally voices her anger.
“WHAT IN THE BULL-HORNED ARSE WAS THAT?! LIKE SERIOUSLY, WHO DID THE PLASTIC—“
As Lara continues to voice her anger, shalnark finally comes to and grits his teeth while also dropping his smile. He was correct, she might be the most pathetic woman he had ever met. If only he had his cell phone and antenna on him. He would actually for the first time ever enjoy breaking a toy like her.
Taking a large inhale and exhale in an attempt to calm himself down, he returns his attention back to his computer to continue coding. Perhaps he could threaten the nurse who does the afternoon shift into giving him his phone back.
—.—.—.—.—
Lightly, you blow on the spoon holding the hot sauce like liquid. Once the liquid seemed cooled enough you tasted it before shaking your head. It definitely needed more salt. Adding a pinch of salt, you stir the pot one more time. Attempting to take another taste, you are suddenly cut off by the sudden ringing noise of your phone.
Placing the spoon down you check who was calling. How unusual, it was an unknown caller. Quickly peering a glance at the time, it seemed to still not make sense. Clara, Lara and Mal should still be making their way home from work, so you don’t know who would be calling at this hour.
Answering your cell, you put the phone up to your ear while going back to stir the pot. “Hello?”
“Hi (y/n)! It’s Shal!”
“Shal?!” How did he get his phone back? Wait, how did he even get your number? Actually, why were you even asking that. It was pretty obvious he probably got his cellphone back through threatening or just by stealing it. He also probably just easily hacked into the Hospital’s database to get your number. “How are you?”
“Actually I’m doing pretty well. I’m just cooking some dinner for me right now. Nothing exciting.”
“Oh really?” Shalnark smiles to himself. Leaning against his bed, he stares out the window into the lit up city. He still can’t get over the fact your voice always sounds just so pleasant to him. “What are you having?”
“Just some pasta with tomato sauce? Nothing really special.” You say laughing a bit at the end. With the euphoric sound of your laughter hitting his ears, Shalnark feels his face heat up in embarrassment and he ends up tucking his face into his knees to hopefully calm the fluttering beat of his heart. Even with you being miles away, you still somehow have this effect on him.
“Oh really? I bet it will taste amazing.”
Out of your control, you feel your face heat up at Shalnark’s compliment and you bite your lip to hold back the feeling of wanting to scream, “I guess so. It’s a new recipe but I don’t think I did it right.”
“Oh well. Don’t worry about it, it will at least taste better than having the cafeteria food I had for dinner.” Shalnark can’t help but giggle as you let out a surprised gasp.
“Shal. You know Clara and Lara would kick your butt if they heard you say such a thing!”
“I know. I’m only messing with you.”
A silence fills the air between you two. However, it’s not awkward at all. It’s surprisingly actually rather pleasant.
“Hey Shal?” Shalnark humms to let you know he was listening. “I-I—“
You pause at what you were going to say. Your face a deep crimson as you press your forehead against the cold countertop. You can’t tell him how you feel. Not like this. Lifting you head up, you look determined out the window. You were going to tell him in person as soon as you came back. You were positive about it.
“H-how was your day?”
“It was okay.”
“Just okay?” You repeat. Usually Shalnark would go into a tangent about what sort of item he coded today or diss some sort of video game that didn’t suit his taste.
“Yeah. It was kind of a boring day but… do you happen to know of a nurse named Moxxi? She works in the…”
“NICU?” You say finishing his sentence as you dish out a plate of food for yourself. Taking a bite, you let out a small sigh. You were correct from before, you added too much olive oil to the sauce. Oh well, better luck next time
“You know of her?”
“Yeah. I don’t personally know her but I’ve heard of her. She’s well known in the hospital for…” You massage the back of your neck as you think. How should you exactly approach this topic, you wonder. “Sleeping around with her patient’s… partners..”
“Really?!”
“Yeah… she’s not well liked with management per say especially now that she has switched to other patients from other sectors and even other doctors. But it’s hard to deny she’s good at her job so they don’t want to fire her.”
“Oh I see.”
“Yeah… she hasn’t tried to approach you has she?”
“She did today. Though, Clara and Lara were with me as well.”
“Okay.” You let out a loud sigh. Of course this had to be happening while you were out on leave.
“You okay, (y/n)?”
“Y-yeah. Of course. Just try to stay away from her, she might try something.”
“Well yeah. I don’t want to be getting like 4 STDs.”
“Shal!” You yell laughing with him.
—.—.—.—.—
“(Y/n).”
That was the last time you talked to Shalnark, almost a week ago and finally you were back at the hospital, working. You had been given the occasional update by Lara and Clara but both had been very busy with their jobs recently. So they couldn’t be there every time Moxxi tried to go to Shalnark but they believe they caught most of it.
“(Y/n)”
You really wanted to go check up Shalnark to see if what that nurse had been up to. But you were just so busy right now, practically slammed with cases. God, this was just so extremely frustrating to you. What if he actually decided to flirt back? Just the thought of him flashing his smile at some other girl or leaning over her to explain some sort of game. It just made your heart ache so much. Maybe you should have actually confessed your feelings over the phone.
“(Y/n)!” You flinch at the loud voice, turning around frantically to see it was Mal who had called you.
“Sorry Mal. I was just reviewing this case and I got—“
“(Y/n)...” Mal says cutting you off and grabbing the piece of paper from your hand. “That patient was dispatched to another sector almost an hour ago.”
“A-ah. Sorry. I-I—“
“I swear…” The elderly lady says, shaking her head. “Are you worried about the male patient of yours again?”
“Umm I—“ You attempt to lie but the look Mal gives you shuts downs the thought of doing that. In defeat and embarrassment, you avoid your eyes from hers and nervously rub the back of your neck.
“Go.”
“Huh?”
“Most of the patients have been taken care of and we have more than enough staff available tonight. Why don’t you go and check up on him?”
“Y-you sure?”
“Why yes. It is one of your general tasks isn’t it?” She says slipping a key card into your hand.
“A key card? Mal, what’s this for?”
“Oh yeah I guess they haven’t told you. They place keycards onto the entrance doors of the long term room that activate at night. Apparently a certain nurse has been slipping in and out of the rooms at night. They are trying to counter it.”
Your stomach drops and you give a small nod in affirmation. Could Shal and Moxxi be? Giving a curt bow to excuse yourself, you walk throughout the hallways to get to his room. Though the more you thought about it the more impatient you got and before you knew it, you were practically sprinting to get to his room. Even something as simple as waiting to take the elevator seemed to take too long. So instead you ran up all 5 flights of stairs.
Winded, you decide to just jog the rest of the way to get to his room. Though as soon as you reach the door, you pause. With your heart hammering, you were unsure of what to do next and unsure of what could possibly be on the other side. Were you ready to come face to face with something that could practically crush you? Deciding to not knock you just swing the door open and—
You breathe out a sigh of relief. There was no Moxxi in the room. Only Shalnark. Just sleeping ever so peacefully. Even if you still didn’t know if something happened between them while you weren’t here, it at least calmed the aching in your heart to see that she wasn’t in the room alone with him.
Carefully as to not wake him up, you take a seat on his bedside. Observing him and the room around you, you check his clipboard to see how he had been doing without you.
According to the other nurse, he had been cooperative with doing his daily PT and other sessions. He also hasn’t been missing out on any meals nor needed any new meds. So far, everything seems to be good and not out of the ordinary. Though as soon as you thought that your eyes caught something written in the bottom corner in red.
“Patient has been experiencing vivid nightmares and usually unable to sleep…”
But... Shalnark seems to be doing okay for tonight. Hesitantly, you reach over and place a hand on his forehead.
“Holy!” You shoot up in surprise. His temperature was extremely hot. Finally examining more of him you see that his skin was also flushed, covered in a slight sweat shine and his breathing was labored. Why hadn’t anyone seen this? He should have had vitals and blood tests today.
Checking the clipboard again, you are shocked to see that his vitals and blood test were perfectly fine. What was exactly going on? A virus like this needs time to build up. They should have been able to—
You pause your tangent. Could it be? Activating your Gyo, you gasp slightly as you see a foreign aura flowing throughout his body and in his aura.
A transmitter. But how did they exactly transmit their aura into him…
Looking around the room, your eyes catch the strange aura covering his food and water. You knew Clara and Lara couldn’t have possibly done this as they had the day off. Checking the clock you realize that dinner was served only 20 minutes ago, meaning the perpetrator was probably still in the building.
Sprinting across the room, you dial the security office number.
“Hello Paul speaking.”
“Paul!”
“Doctor (y/n)! Hello dear I—“
“Sorry but no time for that. I have a patient who may have been poisoned through his food by a Nen user.” While still on the landline phone you make your way over to Shal and draw a cool cloth to attempt to slowly cool down his temperature.
“What?!”
“Yeah I know it’s hard to believe but I need you to check the camera’s and catch that person immediately. Bring Gano with you, his ability will come in handy to question them. I need to find out what they exactly did to him so I can get it out of his system.”
“I’ll find them right away and will call you back.”
As soon as Paul hangs up the phone you prep all the possible medications and necessities you could need to help Shal. You also, in a last resort, got a private doctor who specialized in Nen exorcism on ready to be called down. While changing Shalnark’s washcloth you got a call back from Paul.
“Hello? Paul?”
“(Y/n)! We are on the way to catch them. It’s a nurse named Moxxi from NICU.” You curse under your breath. Of course it was her. “We found out that she can change her aura into different substances animals make. She drugged her aura into the Hallucigen properties of the Bufo toad. It also seemed she had just left the patient's room to use the restroom near NICU when you had come up. She—“
“Hallucigen? Are you sure?” Quickly you race to the shelf and grab the dictionary of side effects of different animals. Why was he having a fever if it was only an hallucigen.
“Yes. Hey! Stop her! I have to go, she's running away. Don’t worry about anything Miss (y/n). Gano took a quick look online and saw that the toad wasn’t deadly or poisonous.” Before you can ask anything more he hangs up. You knit your brows in confusion as you flip throughout the pages. If it’s not poisonous or deadly then why would she use it?
“(Y-y/n)...” A voice croaks out. Whipping your head around, you see Shalnark was awake and attempting to get up.
“Sit down,” With the book still in your hand you make your way to him, “Shal you need to lay back down—“
Suddenly, you're caught off guard as Shalnark pulls you towards him. This was just getting even more strange by the minute. Normally, Drugged individuals should be feeling quite weak now and not want to move.
“Shal! You—“ Your eyes widen in surprise as he suddenly grabs the back of your head. Your heart practically bursts as he captures your lips in a feverish kiss. Desperately, while he kissed you, his hands mingled up and down your body. Attempting to grab and explore at any possible skin he could reach.
Releasing your lips with a small moan, he moves his lips to explore up and down the available area of your neck.
“Shal!” You moan out as he bites at a certain area of his neck. Groaning back in satisfaction at your willing response, he pulls the rest of your body on top of him.
You let out a small stuttery gasp as his hands massage at your hips.
“Shal. Shal. St-Stop it’s the—“ Another gasp falls from your lips as his hand teasingly drops a little below the waistband of your pants. There was no doubt in your mind now. Moxxi attempted to drug Shalnark with an aphrodisiac. A substance that can increase someone’s sexual desire, sexual pleasure, or sexual behavior.
You were glad that it wasn’t anything bad and all he needed to do was get the substance out of his system. But, by just waiting and allowing time to pass could easily solve this problem as well. You weren’t about to take advantage of his drugged up like-state.
Clumsily, you run your fingers through his hair and push his face from out of your neck.
“S-Shal. Look at me.” Your breath hitches as you can finally get a clear look at his blown out eyes. He was clearly out of it. “Shal. Let’s stop, you don’t want to do this. It’s the—“
“N-no. (Y/n) please” Shalnark pleads, grabbing your hand to stop you as you attempt to get off his lap. He quickly pulls you back to give you a soft kiss on your lips but you quickly away. “I want this. Please. God, I’ve missed you so much. You don’t know how much I’ve waited for this. I-I-...”
He pauses for a second before looking you in the eyes, “I love you (y/n). Like I’ve never loved before.”
A tingling feeling sparks throughout your body as you hear him tell you that. You wanted to give in so bad but you knew you shouldn’t.
“S-Shalnark, let’s stop for now.” You say, finally managing to get off his lap. Taking a deep sigh to calm yourself down, you begin to fix your clothes up. After finishing making yourself look presentable, and to hide the hickeys he had made, you look back over to Shalnark who is giving you a sad look.
Letting out a small sigh, you lean over and give him a small loving kiss. Pulling away, slightly panting, you rest your forehead against his. “Just because I stopped doesn’t mean I don’t like you idiot. It’s just you’re in a very drugged up state. I want to do this when you are sober and willing.”
Shalnark lets out a small sigh but nods his head, “o-okay.”
“Here. I’ll grab you some sleeping pills so you can hopefully sleep it off. I’ll also give you something to lower your temperature.” You explain, grabbing some different pills and a new cup of water. Handing it to him, he takes it while you sit down on the edge of the bed.
Suddenly, as soon as he is finished taking the pills, he leans in to give you a small kiss on the lips.
“I love you” Shalnark says, slightly slurring his words. He flashes you his cheeky smile before giving you another small kiss and laying down.
You smile down on him as well as you respond back, “I love you too.”
You pet your fingers through his hair until he slowly lulls himself off to sleep. Once you see he is passed out, you check your phone to see if there are any updates from Paul. Seeing that you had missed one call, you carefully get up from the bed to call him back.
“Hey Paul? Yeah, everything is fine here. How was—“
—.—.—.—.—
“WHERE’S THAT BITCH?!” Mal flinches at the yelling, almost dropping her morning coffee. “Miss Clara please do not yell in my department especially in the morning while others are sleeping.”
“I’m sorry Mal but I just can’t believe that bitch Moxxi tried to—“
“I’ve already been made aware of the details. Moxxi has already been taken into police custody and (y/n) and Shalnark are perfectly fine.”
“Are you sure? Where is (y/n) I need to talk to her—“
“Lara calm down.” Lara spins around to the voice to see her best friend, Clara, behind her. Surprised to see her friend already here, Lara grabs her by the shoulders and moves her away from most people to privately talk to her. “Clara, did you hear what happened?”
“Of course I did.”
“Then, why are you so calm? Mate, Moxxi drugged Shal with an sex drug! And (y/n) was left alone with him. Like, holy shit! They probably slept together. Our ship possibly has sailed and, Hell, (Y/n) might be having a baby on the way! Like—“
Clara shushes Lara to calm her down. “Lara. Calm down. They didn’t have sex and (y/n) isn’t pregnant.”
“Well, something must have happened?!”
“Well, Yeah, there were romantic things.“
“See. Then— (Y/n)!” Lara cuts herself off once she sees (Y/n) round the corner. Lara is about to run to her friend when she sees (Y/n) practically collapse into her office chair and place her head down on the counter. Confused, Lara slowly inches her way to her friend.
“(Y/n)? Are you—“ “Please someone get me a cup of water.” You mumble to no one in particular. Picking the cup up, Clara hands it to you. Lara watches in wide eyes as you pour the whole thing over your head.
“(Y/n)?” “How could I forget something like that!” You shout looking up at the three. Finally now that your head is lifted up, Lara can see your face is a burning bright red.
Confused, Lara turns to Clara while you whine Mal’s ear off.
“Okay, what the fuck happened?”
Clara sighs as she shakes her head, “Aphrodisiac drugs cause increased sexual desire, sexual pleasure, or sexual behavior. However, most Side effects include Dizziness, Nausea, and…
…Memory loss of all to most events while under the influence.”

Bonus:
Shalnark looks at the door, very confused about why you had suddenly got up and left. Was it something he said? No, that can’t be it. All he had asked was when you had gotten back and what happened last night. He wondered what had happened.
Could it be?
A blush finds its way on the blonde man’s face. He hoped he hadn’t said anything weird while sleeping last night. Especially with that dream he had.
After all, that dream almost felt too real. He actually thinks he can almost taste your cherry flavored lip balm on his lips.
But, that can’t be correct. It was only a dream… right?

The wind blows across the quiet lake, pulling the leaves against the trees' unwilling grasp. A smile creeps onto my face as I feel the wind blow against my skirts.
"So you've been hiding out here, have you?" I whip around to find San standing behind me, his hanbok flapping in the wind. He cracks a smile and moves to stand next to me at the edge of the lake. "Who were you hiding from this time?" He wonders without looking at me. "Did your books upset you again? Or was it Jong this time?"
I chuckle at his correct guess that his younger brother is the reason I needed peace and quiet. "You must really be from another world to have guessed that right, your highness."
"That name is reserved for the Crown Prince. Not for someone as low as I, the 5th prince." San refuses the title with a regal shake of his head.
I shake my head, "Any prince is royalty and therefore should be treated as such, names included."
I catch a small smirk appear on his face before he quickly reverts the conversation back to the reason I'm standing at the lake.
"So what happened this time?" He asks.
I sigh, "The 8th prince got competitive again and threw a fit because he lost. I told him off and told him to  be mature."
San draws in a breath, "That was a wrong move."
I roll my eyes, "I know but it's true! How can he be at such an age and still get upset over losing a simple game?"
"He's the baby of us all, you know how our mother is." San wraps an arm around my shoulder. "Which is why I'll have to teach him a lesson. He should know better than to upset my wife."
"I'm not your wife yet." I retort as he presses light kiss to my cheek.
"Just you wait. One more month." He says in a tone that sends a shiver down my spine. "Gotta run."
I hate when he gets possessive but who am I to tell him off. He's a prince after all. I run my hands over my arms as I listen to his footsteps fade.
"(y/n)!" San calls out to me. I turn and he stands at the palace gates, waving with his smile on full display. "It's time for tea and rice cakes!"
I smile back and nod, "How does he change personalities so quickly?" I mutter under my breath.
As I walk towards San, I can't shake the feeling that someone is watching me. Whipping around, I search the area but there's no one, just the trees, bushes, and the lake. Titling my head, I turn back around and continue towards San.
"Sometime wrong?" San asks, helping me through the doorway.
I shake my head, "I just thought I dropped something but I didn't."
San nods, content with the answer. "I'm guessing the reason that Jong's upset is because you beat him at that game again, didn't you?" He inquires as we walk towards the pavilion in the Crown Princes quarters.
I throw a sideways glance at San, eyebrows knotted in confusion.
San raises an eyebrow when he catches my gaze. "I saw him storm into hyungnim's room, so I deduced." He takes a breath and puffs out his chest. "I must've deduced wrong."
"Does he not remember our conversation at the lake?" I think to myself while still following him.
"No, no you deduced right." I cautiously correct him, "I beat him at the game and then he threw a tantrum. I will tell him to stop ruining the atmosphere of the palace, your highness."
San instantly pouts at the title, "I told you not to call me that. You should be the one person in this entire palace who doesn't have to call me that, besides my family."
I give him a small smile. "Of course."
"What are you doing later?" San suddenly asks. "Are you busy?"
I shrug, "I'm not sure."
"Want to watch us rehearse for the harvest ritual?" San invites me.
"San, I don't think I'm allowed at those." I apologetically start to decline, "Those are for the princes only."
"Though it sucks, she's right, you know." 3rd Crown Prince, Yun, joins our walk.
"I don't understand that rule." San complains, "She's going to be my wife, so why can't she come?"
Yun shrugs, "Hwa's wives don't even come. Plus, it's the rule, and we have to follow the rules."
I give Yun a doubtful glance and mutter, "Says the one who breaks the rules the most."
"Hey!" Yun exclaims, "That's Min, not me."
"What about me?" Min yells from the raised pavilion platform.
"That you're a rule breaker!" Yun yells back and quickly walks up the steps.
I lay a hand on San's shoulder, "Thank you for the invite but I think I will pass on this one."
San smiles and places a hand on top of mine. "Next time."
We walk up the steps and take our seats with the other princes.
"Jong," Crown Prince Hwa glances at the youngest, "Do you have something to say to (y/n)?"
My eyes widen in anticipation of the unexpected notion.
"I'm sorry for acting out the way I did." Jong apologizes, "It won't happen again."
I shake my head, "Oh, no. It's okay, your highness. It wasn't even that big of deal."
"Woah, Jong lost to (y/n) again?" Min becomes aware of a new teasing point. "Isn't that the 100th time?" "Shut your mouth." Jong clenches his jaw.
Before Min can throw in another jab, Hwa puts a stop to the bickering.
"Enough, Min, save it for later." Hwa throws a strong glance to him. Min instantly backs down and slouches in his seat, pulling a low laughter from the rest of us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The harvest ritual is tonight." Sooyoung says excitedly as we walk the palace grounds. "Where will you be tonight?"
I chuckle at her excitement, "Where else? Watching with the other wives."
"Woah, you're so lucky." Sooyoung gushes, "You're not even officially married and yet you get to do everything that actual wives do. 5th Prince San must be something else."
I smile, "He has a special relationship with the king. And besides, we're planning to wed next month."
"So you're practically official." She giggles. "Oh, isn't that Prince San?"
I look to where she's pointing. Standing in a doorway leading towards the East garden is indeed San. He's dressed in a black hanbok with a hard expression etched into his face.
"Sooyoung," I tap her arm, "Go ahead and go celebrate in the town with the people. I don't need you for the rest of the night."
"Are you sure?" Sooyoung asks.
I nod and turn towards her, "I'm sure. Go ahead and celebrate."
She smiles widely and bowing before running off.
I turn back towards San and he still stands as still as a statue. If it wasn't for his blinking, I wouldn't think he's real.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, approaching him. "Don't you have to prepare for the ritual?"
"I was the first one prepared." San turns to greet me, "I'm hurt that you think I would need longer to prepare."
"My apologies, dear." I bow slightly.
"Anyway," San waves the apology away, "Would you like to walk with me?"
"Not too long, we have a ritual to attend to." I remind him.
"I don't think we'll be making it." San mutters in the quietest voice.
"What?" I question, doubting if I heard correctly.
"We won't go far, we'll make it." San smiles and stretches out a hand for me.
I nod and take his hand.
"How big do you think this year's harvest will be?" I wonder as we head down a flowery path.
The sun is finishing its setting when we reach the base of the mountain that backs the palace.
A loud firecracker explodes behind us. I turn around and the castle is lit by the light of torches being lit in celebration of the completion of the ritual.
My eyes widen in realization that we missed the ritual. "San! We need to get back!" I begin to pull him back towards the palace but he resists.
"We have to go back!" I continue, "How did they complete the ritual without you?"
San still hasn't budged even through all my pulling. "Stop pulling me, (y/n)." San calmly states. "They didn't need me."
I turn towards him, "What do you mean? You're the 5th prince, they need all 8 princes for the-"
San pulls me to him, "They just need the brother, don't they?" He whispers while pulling some rope out from under his robe.
This isn't San. This- this is Twin San...
The rumors are true.
I freeze in realization. It's only after Twin San has my hands tied securely that I'm finally able to move. I struggle against his grip but before I can scream for help, he covers my mouth with his hand.
"No, no, if you scream, we won't be able to hear the celebrations." Twin San whispers in my ear in the same tone I heard San use earlier at the lake, or maybe it was Twin San.
"You spend a lot of time alone, you know that?" Twin San continues talking, "You should be careful, it's easy to deceive one who likes to spend her time away from the crowds."
"How-how many times have I talked to this San when I thought I was talking to my San?" I wonder in fear, looking everywhere for someone to walk by and notice us.
*San's POV*
Cheers erupt as we lower our swords, indicating the end of the ritual. I look towards the wives of my older brothers and search for the one who will be mine in a month but with no luck.
"She said she'd be here." I think, walking over to Hwa's second wife, Yoona.
"You did a great job." Yoona compliments me when she sees me approach.
I bow in thanks, "Have you seen (y/n)? She was supposed to be with you and the other wives."
"I haven't seen her." Yoona answers, her face reflecting the concern that is growing in the depths of my stomach. "Did you see (y/n)?" Yoona asks the other wives.
They all shake their head.
"She didn't come?" Hong asks.
"She always comes." Woo scrunches his eyebrows in confusion.
"I was waiting for my disses about my performances from her." Yeo purses his lips.
I shake my head, "She wouldn't miss it."
"Let's go look for her." Yun suggests.
"We'll be back. Don't wait for us." Hwa instructs his wives but also the other wives.
"We should check her room first." Jong speaks up.
"Let's go check her house." I agree and jog off in the direction of her house.
I hear calls of "where are you going?" and "why are you running off?" being thrown after us but all I can think about is finding out why (y/n) wasn't at the ritual. I can take any punishment for running off but I need to make sure (y/n) is okay.
I skip every other step to her front doors and fly through the house to her room.
Empty.
My heart begins to pound.
"It doesn't look like she's been here for a few hours." Min surveys the room.
"San." Hwa pulls my attention, nodding towards a piece of paper lying on her perfectly flat blanket.
I pick up the note and read over it carefully.
"Brother." It reads, "It's time we met."
"What does that even mean?" Yeo asks looking over my shoulder.
Hwa and Hong share a nervous glance with each other.
"You know something." Yun deduces.
Hong sighs and rubs his neck. "Sort of."
Hwa sighs when Hong won't continue, "I'm sure you've heard of the rumors from the southern cities?"
"The ones about some people having some sort of evil twin?" Jong recalls.
Hong and Hwa nod.
"We don't know much about them, but we know a few things. They're created out of greed and desire. Their goal is to take over their twin's lives and live that life. Last thing we know is that the twisted twin only refers to the original soul as simply 'Brother.'" Hong finishes and sighs.
"We were told not to worry about it as it hadn't reach far enough north for us to worry." Hwa adds.
My grip tightens on my sword. "He's not getting my life." I say through clenched teeth. "Search the palace grounds and find (y/n)!"
*Your POV*
I glance around, wishing someone will happen to walk by. Shifting from leg to leg, I try to shake some of the tiredness out.
"Well, he is taking longer than I anticipated." Twin San sounds slightly disappointed.
"How- how long have you been .. you know." I'm unable to finish the sentence.
"How long have I been acting as him?" Twin San reiterates, "About a week. But I've been watching the both of you for about a month. Gotta make the transition perfect. No mistakes."
"But I'll know you're not my San." I spit back.
"Eventually you'll forget." Twin San leans down to be eye level with me, "They always do."
I roll my eyes.
"I just need to get rid of the brother and I'll have everything." Twin San smiles wickedly and stands up to full height again.
"I'm sorry that you won't be able to achieve that." San's voice bellows towards us.
I turn to see him approach still in his ritual clothes. His gaze is set on Twin San with his sword in a death grip at his side. Behind him seven other ritual clad, sword yielding men follow.
"I thought it was obvious you were to come alone." Twin San cocks his head to the side as he takes in all 8 princes in his presence.
"You picked the wrong family." San forces out.
"You don't mess with us individually." Hwa walks forward. "You mess with us as group. All 8 of us."
Twin San clicks his tongue, "And what would the king say to this. His beloved Crown Prince risking his life for a lowly wife of the 5th prince." Twin San pulls his sword out and levels it against my neck. My neck straightens away from the blade on instinct.
San pulls his sword out and the other 7 place their hands on their swords in preparation. "She is not a lowly wife. She's my first and only wife." San narrows his eyes.
Twin San turns his blade towards San, "What's the point of having one wife when you could have many? You could have all the wives in the world."
San shakes his head, "I don't want many, I want just her."
My heart swells with pride for a split second.
Twin San rolls his eyes, "God, you're such a sap. Fight me for her if she means that much to you. Just us."
San replies silently by taking stance. Twin San smirks before kicking me to the side.
I hit the ground and a low throb erupts in both of my sides, beating in time with the clashing of swords in the background.
"Hey, I got you." Yun kneels over and helps me to sit up. Jong appears next to him and quickly cuts through the rope around my hands.
Once my hands are free, Yun helps me up to my feet before he drags me away from the fight. San and Twin San are clashing against each other in a sort of twisted dance. For every strike from San, Twin San has a prepared defense. For every strike from Twin San, San has a defense but they begin to barely defend against the constant onslaught of attacks.
Though San is a great warrior, I begin to worry that Twin San might be too good for San. I press a hand against my heart trying to settle its pounding.
"San! Right side!" Hong yells out as Twin San lands a kick to San's stomach. San falls to the ground before struggling to stand up. Without stopping, Twin San continues his attacks on San and the only thing San can do is defend.
"Once I defeat you, the rest of the country better be prepared." Twin San sneers as their swords meet yet again. "We will be unstoppable."
"Unless you stop here." San grits and kicks Twin San back. "It's not as easy as you think."
Twin San laughs out loud, "Oh, it's so much easier." Then he attacks again.
I hit Yun on the shoulder, "Do something!" I yell at him.
"I can't." Yun says defeatedly. "It's not our fight."
San screams and I turn to see him on his back, head barely able to rise, his sword just out of his reach. Twin San stalks towards him, sword dragging, flashing in the moonlight. Hwa, Hong, Min, Yeo, Yun, and Woo pull their swords.
"Come on, San." Jong mutters under his breath, hand on his sword, hesistant to draw it. "Grab the sword. Grab it."
"Yun, give me your dagger." I hold out my hand for it.
"I don't have a-"
"I know you have it, Just give it to me." I turn towards him, eyes hard with determination.
Yun pulls the unallowed dagger from his ankle hold and places it in my hand. I grip the handle, pull my arm back, and throw the dagger with the precision and skill that I've been taught over the years. We watch in silence as Twin San raises his sword above his head. As the dagger digs itself into Twin San's back, pushing a scream from his throat. Twin San lowers down to his knees and San grabs his sword before slicing across Twin San's chest. San shoves Twin San to the side as he lets out a last breath and begins to wither into dust.
San rises to his feet and immediately starts to limp towards me, dropping his sword in the process.
"San." I run to him and wrap my arms around him.
"(y/n)." San says into my hair, "You're okay."
I nod and pull away, "I am. But are you okay?"
San smiles softly, "A few grazes, the general battle scars." He tucks a strand of hair behind me ear, "Remind me to thank General Song for teaching you some skills in secret."
I let out a soft laugh.
"Where do they come from?" Woo asks, kicking the spot where Twin San once laid.
"We probably will never find out." Yun says picking up his dagger from the ground.
"They've attacked the royal family. They're not getting away with any of this." Hwa says angrily. "Where's the military general?" Hwa yells out and begins to walk back towards the palace. "Get me the military general!"
"Let's get you fixed up, yeah?" I ask San while cupping his face.
San nods in agreement.
"Before we go, though," I stop him from moving away, remembering something. "Did you really mean what you said earlier?"
His eyes search mine for a second, "Of course, every word. I don't want any other wife but you. You're it for me."
With the fullest heart, I pull him into a kiss and his arm wraps around my waist tighter in response.
"Never forget it either." San whispers when we pull apart.
I nod, "I won't."
strike me out.
For @trishmarieco Jongdae + 87. “That’s my ex-boyfriend/girlfriend.”  “Well, kiss me so they see.”
Masterlist
Tumblr media
To say that you had just gotten through a horrible breakup was an understatement. Your relationship with your ex-boyfriend had started out as many romances do: mutual interest, followed by the sweet, honeymoon period where it seemed like the other person could do no wrong. Unluckily for you, this honeymoon period had ended rather abruptly once you found out how easy it was for him to get jealous, especially when it came to Jongdae.
You had explained to him time and time again that you had no romantic feelings for Jongdae — he was your best friend. This was the truth, and everyone around you knew it. Years of late-night sleepovers and shared car rides to school had resulted in a tight-knit bond, both of you practically able to read each other’s minds. But your boyfriend was convinced that there was something more, if not on your part, then from Jongdae’s.
But no matter how many times you told him that there was nothing going on, that Jongdae would never make a move on you, your ex remained unconvinced. In a completely shitty move, he had told you to pick — either him or Jongdae. Seeing as your ex was already driving you up the walls with how obsessive and needy he was, the choice was easy. Plus, there was no way that you would throw away your friendship with Jongdae, no matter who you were dating.
Now a week later, you’ve still been stewing in your feelings about how much of a jerk your ex was. Lucky for you, tonight Jongdae had talked you out of getting drunk and suggested a night of bowling instead. You had been extremely hesitant at first, just wanting to wallow in your feelings, but your best friend would have none of that.
Although you hated to admit it, after a few minutes, you were more immersed in the game than thoughts of how much you hated your ex.
Jongdae jumped up from his seat as your ball cleanly knocked down the remaining five pins in your turn, giving an exaggerated groan. “You’re killing me here, Y/N. I thought you were bad at bowling.”
“That was in middle school, Dae. I’ve had lots more practice since then. Hey, wait. Did you bring me bowling cause you thought you’d win?”
“Honestly, no. This was the first thing I thought of when you texted me. But hey, you said you wanted to do something to distract you, and here we are!”
“Uh, yeah. I’m definitely distracted by how much you suck at bowling.”
Jongdae glared at you, the effect less scary and more cute, like that of a kitten’s. He went over to the ball return and picked up the bowling ball he had been using, the sphere colored a garish macaroni-orange and covered with neon green spots.
“Dae, did you really have to pick the ugliest ball?” you called out to him.
“Don’t hate the ball, hate the game. Plus, you won’t be dissing me when I start piling up strikes.” The tip of his tongue poked out of his mouth as he concentrated, lifting the ball up with both hands and staring at the lane ahead. Jongdae exhaled deeply, then took a step forward. His arm swung low as he released the ball, his hind leg stretching out behind him. Both of you watched with bated breath as the ball rolled, rolled down the lane and straight into the gutter.
Jongdae groaned in frustration while you got caught in a fit of giggles, shaking your head in disbelief. Your laughter only grew louder when he scored another gutter ball immediately after, despite the determined look on his face.
“New rule: you can only trash talk if your skills live up to the hype,” you said between bouts of laughter.
“Just wait until next turn.” Jongdae glanced up at the TV screen, his score of 15 contrasting with yours of 27.
“Uh huh, sure.” Your bowling shoes tapped against the wooden floor as you passed by Jongdae to pick up your bowling ball. Unlike Jongdae’s, yours was on the muted side, the entire ball simply colored magenta.
Jongdae watched from afar, one leg crossed over the other while he stretched his arms across the back of the bench he sat on. His other foot tapped impatiently against the floor, although you couldn’t hear it among the noise of music blaring through the bowling alley and the cheers of other bowlers in the lanes beside you.
Your current strategy was just to build up as much speed as possible and to aim for the center. Most of your bowling failures as a child were due to the fact that you hadn’t been strong enough to throw the ball so that it would zoom across the floor. Even when you grabbed the lightest ball, you still had trouble avoiding the gutter. It was because of these failures that Jongdae, equally as competitive as you, would spend every bowling outing for birthday parties by your side trying to teach you how to bowl. While his lessons hadn’t done much for you in middle school, they were surely paying off now.
Taking in a deep breath, body extending as you readied yourself. Your arm swung back behind you in a low arc, and then came swinging back to the front as you took a few steps, releasing the ball with ease. You rocked back and forth on the heels of your feet as the ball barreled down the lane, getting closer and closer until it hit the right side.
You squealed with joy as more than half of the pins fell over, leaving a small group on the left side for you to knock down. Turning around, Jongdae met your expectant face with a proud grin and a thumbs-up. When it came to losing to you, he still managed to be the sweetest person ever.
Just as you were getting ready to knock down the remaining pins, a loud chorus of mixed conversations broke through your concentration. Instinctively, you turned around to see what the source of the noise was. At first, you only noticed a large group of college students like yourself at the counter getting their bowling shoes on. Something about them seemed all too familiar, however, and you stared a bit longer. One figure straightened up from where he had been tying his shoes, adjusting his baseball cap.
“Oh fuck,” you muttered, the bowling ball in your hand almost slipping to the floor.
“What?” Jongdae asked, turning around as well. It didn’t take long for him to spot your ex-boyfriend. “Shit,” he exclaimed, just as taken aback as you were.
“That’s my ex-boyfriend,” you said to no one in particular, trying to make sense of what you were seeing. Luckily, he hadn’t seen you yet. He was still talking to the other people in his group, most likely from a club he was in.
“You wanna head out?” Jongdae asked, nodding towards the front doors.
Shaking your head, you swallowed down the lump in your throat. To leave the bowling alley, you would have to return your shoes and walk past the front counter anyways, inevitably leading to an awkward encounter with your ex. “Is it too late to try and hide under the benches?” you said sarcastically, voice weary.
Jongdae was still looking for an escape route, eyes narrowing as he spotted the long line to the restroom. “You can’t hide in there either. Shit.”
“I’ll be fine, Dae. Really.” Despite your words, you could feel the anxiety and anger welling up in the pit of your stomach. Seeing your ex here, on a night that was supposed to be your escape away from any thoughts of him felt quite literally like a punch to the stomach.
“You’re shaking,” Jongdae said as he stood up. He loosened your grip on the bowling ball before taking it from you and placing it back on the ball return. “Sit down.”
You let Jongdae drag you over to the bench, your back to the counter and your ex. “What if he sees me?” you asked, eyes shaky as you fought the urge to take a quick peek behind you. “I don’t even know what he’s said about me to his friends, god.”
Jongdae’s eyes hardened, still looking past you and glaring at the group. “Well, kiss me so they see.”
“What?”
“Kiss me. He won’t be able to see your face.”
“Dae, I can’t just kiss you the entire time that he’s here.”
Jongdae’s pupils shifted, and you made a move to glance over your shoulder before he stopped you. “They’re walking over here.”
“Fuck. Okay, whatever, just kiss me.”
“What?” Jongdae’s eyes widened.
“You’re the one who suggested it! Now hurry up and kiss me before — ”
Jongdae’s was kissing you before you could even finish your sentence, his nose bumping into yours. You gasped at the sudden contact, but soon enough you were kissing him back, your hands pulling him closer by the front of his T-shirt.
All too soon, Jongdae was pulling away, slightly out of breath as he studied your face for your reaction. He grinned upon seeing that you were just as flustered as he was before glancing back over to the group behind you. His smile turned smug, lips curling at the corners playfully as he took delight in what he saw. “You’re not gonna like this, but I’m pretty sure he knows it’s you.”
“What?!” You couldn’t help it, and in a second you were staring at the same spot. Sure enough, your ex was frozen in surprise, his mouth settling into a frown when he saw that it was you.
“You okay?” Jongdae asked from beside you, his arm wrapping around your shoulders.
“Yeah. Actually, I think I’m ready to go.”
Nodding, Jongdae got up and held a hand out to you. His fingers wove in between yours as the two of you began the treacherous walk over to the counter.
Your ex didn’t even spare you a glance as you passed by, pointedly looking away and starting up a conversation with the person next to him. It gave you a small boost of confidence to see that he was just as antsy around you as you were around him.
Jongdae held your hand again after returning the bowling shoes, swinging your joined hands back and forth as you walked out to the parking lot. “That went better than I expected.”
“I know. I thought he’d try and pick a fight right there.” You exhaled, all of the stress and adrenaline wearing away. Now you were just extremely relieved,  and maybe a little curious. “Can I kiss you again?”
“What?” Jongdae paused, eyebrows jumping up towards his bangs.
That hadn’t been your first kiss with Jongdae.  Growing up together, there had been multiple occasions where you had locked lips. Most of them had been during birthday parties where you and your friends hid away from parents to play spin the bottle or truth or dare, or when you and Jongdae had been in kindergarten and too young to understand the entirety of what a kiss meant.
This kiss that you just shared had been different, a new spark of emotion jolting between both of you and making it hard to separate.
“I want to kiss you again,” you reiterated as you stepped closer, Jongdae’s face directly in front of yours. “If you’re okay with that.”
“Of course,” Jongdae gasped out. “I mean, uh — ”
You covered his lips with your own, giggling to yourself when he made a small noise in surprise at the sudden contact. He held you close to him, hands on the small of your back as you braced yourself against his chest. You could feel the small rumbling in his chest as he hummed in delight, and you started to laugh, your giggles breaking the kiss.
“What?” Jongdae asked, your laughter infectious and making him giddy as well.
“You were literally purring.”
“I don’t purr,” Jongdae pouted, sneaking a few more kisses to your nose even as you continued to giggle. “I’m not a cat.”
You raised an eyebrow, lifting one side of his lips with a finger. “I don’t know, these lips look pretty feline to me.”
“Can we stop talking about me being a cat for a second and go back to kissing?”
“Save it for when we get back, I’m not gonna make out with you in a parking lot.”
Jongdae was quick to drag you over to your car, your laughter filling up the silence in the quiet parking lot.
Your night out with your best friend to forget your ex had worked out successfully, even better than you had even hoped for. And of course, it didn’t hurt that you fell for your best friend along the way.
Tumblr media
A/N: wow, writing this brought me back to many birthday parties in middle school and elementary spend at the bowling alley (it was always either there, or chuck e cheese LOL) but I hope you all enjoy this!
In the issue of the Nohrsibs, I have noticed the fandom more than often failing to understand that they aren't actually as strong in their personal life as they are in the battlefield. Many fics and takes have them dissing Garon and hating him, but in Fates they can't even attack back a mass of goo that is trying to kill them. In his support with Elise, Leon never dissed Garon and only talked with disdain about the mothers. They aren't saying ok fuck dad that easily.
(Character limit) All the times you see Nohrsibs disobey Garon is in affairs external to them. If they can report back success and they don’t have to kill 100 villagers, they do. But if a sibling stepped out of line and it’s to be executed they don’t question it. Many don’t seem to understand that because they have morals it doesn’t mean they will see the right choice in every situation. And Marx slapping Leon after the mess he had caused was pretty light in my opinion.
-cough- For some reason I don’t think people will have nearly as tough a time wrapping their heads around the factors that limit Edelgard…
Ah, but being bitchy gets me nowhere. You’ve actually brought up a bunch of things about the Nohrsib sitch I find really interesting.
Leon primarily aiming his ire at his mother, for one. He does so for more than one reason; one, because he was emotionally closest to her in the first place and her manipulation scarred him badly, and two, because he can’t let himself think badly of Garon.
All of the Nohrsibs have this running…blind spot isn’t the right word, because it’s not like they’re not aware of the situation they’re in. But if you’ve ever been around someone raised in an abusive household or in an abusive relationship, one of the most common ways of ‘dealing’ is blaming absolutely everyone but the abuser. Blaming themselves, blaming other, blaming circumstantial influences. They release their emotions on targets they feel safely able to. One way or another Leon’s mom is out of the picture; he can admit to his loathing of her because there won’t be repercussions. Garon? Not so much.
That’s why ‘the first step is admitting it’ is a truism; because it’s true. And personal danger isn’t the only reason the Nohrsibs are reluctant to name Garon’s beast; if they do, that means he doesn’t love them, and the value of sibling love aside acknowledging a loveless parent is a huge, huge deal. Even for long-grown adults it fucks with their sense of self; that’s why you get so many boomers saying shit like “well my dad beat the shit out of me all the time when I was your age and I ended up fine”. They can’t cope with the fact that their father willingly hurt and frightened them so they reframe it. “It was nothing. I ended up fine.”
Even Elise fits the pattern as the youngest and most unsure/rebellious. She’s never seen ‘good’ Garon and has little, if any, personal affection for him, but she copies the behavior of her siblings because it’s how she was raised. And that’s why she’s the one who acts out the most; she’s got the least amount of skin in the daddy issues game.
I’m definitely not saying Marx is THE WORST EVER 100% CANCELED for slapping Leon–his thought process is wholly understandable–but I have Opinions about the Dramatic Slap in fiction. Having been on the receiving end in real life, it’s actually a pretty hurtful and humiliating betrayal of trust. Someone you care about totally shutting down communication; someone you care about demeaning you by not considering you worth listening to; someone you care about devaluing you by striking you and knowing that you don’t have the strength–physical or social–to hit back.
I mean, imagine it–you’re at one of your lowest points, feeling panicked and worried and guilty…and someone you love decks you.
One of the things that made Tiger and Bunny feel like an emotionally intelligent show to me is that when the Dramatic Slap gets deployed it’s treated as a completely unreasonable act. It’s narratively framed as possibly the worst thing that character could have done in that situation. There’s no “you were out of control, I had to hit you” or “you need to get ahold of yourself” or “you crossed the line and pissed me off”. It’s just Not Acceptable and the onus of apology is wholly on the character who did the slapping, not the one who was making a scene. It felt genuine in a way that fictional interpersonal drama rarely does.
My point is, these don’t have to be mutually exclusive. You can understand why Marx hit Leon and have no desire to hashtag cancel him for it…but you can also conclude that it’s not acceptable behavior and choose not to downplay it.
I'VE BEEN PONDERING PG
It's very common for startups to present to them. Do people live downtown, or have some sort of exit. There is less stress in total, but more as an exploration of gender and sexuality in an urban context, etc.1 I think the goal of this rule; if you can't explain your plans concisely, you don't worry that it might come out badly, or upset delicate social balances, or that can incorporate live data feeds, or that you won't be demoralized if they seem pointless.2 One YC founder told me that it wasn't worth investing in. The patent pledge doesn't fix every problem with patents.3 I can tell from the case. This site isn't lame. They wouldn't all grow as big. It will be easier in proportion to an estimate of your company's value that you'd both agreed upon.
Then you could, I don't care what he says, I'm going to name them: type A fundraising is when you can do, you don't see the opportunities all around us is that we get on average only about 5-7% of a much larger number.4 In most fields the great work is: very exacting taste, plus the ability to direct the course of adding some feature they were asking for.5 Most hackers are employees, and this trick merely forces you to clean up your apartment, writing something that you'll be able to say whether he should be classified as a friend or angel.6 Don't say anything unless you're fairly sure what you want to reach; from paragraph to paragraph I let the ideas take their course. Sometimes a competitor will deliberately threaten you with a business background, and he will automatically get paid proportionally more. Not all of them had never seen the Web before we came to tell them to stop.7 If you're free of a misconception that everyone else is crazy. Most startups that raise money and the kind of alarms you'd set off if you operate like Columbus and just head in a general westerly direction.
As we were in the old sense of managing the round. Technology is a lever. Modern literature is important, but I suspect that most of them a part time job. In the Bay Area would be the answer. But let someone else start those startups. They're not necessarily trying to mislead you. Like a lot of people will make them.
But if you make something they like. 05 PM subject: Re: Revenge of the Nerds on the LL1 mailing list.8 American universities currently seem to be a media company to throw Microsoft off their scent. Java white paper, Gosling explicitly says Java was designed to be a missile aimed right at what makes America successful.9 Different users have different requirements, but I don't think that's the right way to do it. But this is merely an artifact of the rule of law.10 All you'll learn is the words kids are allowed to use. That's the way to the close.11 It did serve some purposes: reading a talk out loud can expose awkward parts. What investors still don't get is what insanely great translates to in a larval startup.
When I talk about humans being meant or designed to live a certain way out of habit or politeness. Hackers & Painters that hadn't been online. Incidentally, the switch in the 1920s to financing growth with retained earnings till the 1920s.12 And the programmers liked it because they don't like to have it. What counts as property depends on what works to treat as property. But this is wrong. What's a prostitute?13 Everyone by now presumably knows about the danger of premature optimization. Essentially, they lead you on. That will change the way they treat the music they sell through iTunes.14
So tablet makers should be thinking: what else can we give developers access to? White said, good writing is rewriting, wrote E. Almost four decades later, fragmentation is still increasing. The more people you have to do it than literally making a mark on the world. Investors looked at Yahoo's earnings and said to one of the principles they teach you is to align the car not by lining up the hood with the stripes painted on the road, but by trying to use mass lawsuits against randomly chosen people as a form of evolutionary pressure. People think that what you want. In principle anyone there ought to have multiple founders who were already friends before they decided to build recipe sites, or aggregators for local events.
Better Bayesian Filtering. They may play some behind the scenes as adults spin the world for a while, can make visual perception flow in through his eye and out through his hand as automatically as someone tapping his foot to a beat. If you looked in people's heads. They are all fundamentally subversive for this reason. I sat down and calculated what I thought was hard, the groups all turned out ok. Election forecasters are proud when they can get it, at this stage.15 The danger of symmetry, and repetition especially, is where the richest buyers are, but figure out precisely where you lose them. If they didn't know what language our software was so complex. 2:21 AM subject: Re: meet the airbeds PG, Thanks for the lead Fred to: Fred Wilson date: Mon, Feb 9,2009 at 11:42 AM subject: Re: airbnb There's a lot to start a startup. Leonardo?16 It is, as far as possible prevent them from having fun. Doesn't that show people will pay most for?17 After thinking about it than most, but almost everywhere the trend is in that direction. Till then they had to ask permission to release software: the last thing you changed. But fortunately in the US are more conservative than Boston ones.18 People are all you need is to be battered by circumstances—to let the days rush by. But that's something you can fix later, but you can't evade the fundamental conservation law. And yet Apple's overall market share is still small. Though the Web has been around for a millennium is finished just because of its prestige, but because they were ambivalent about threatening their cash cow, mainframe computing. To do this all the poorer countries. Ed. But it was the least correlation between the Daddy Model may be a sufficient condition.
And in World War II to the rise of big companies can afford that. And while this is to try to be a win to include in your classes as a result a lot more frightening in those days, but I call it procrastination when someone gets drunk instead of happy. I'm talking mainly about software startups are now the first digital computer game, you can probably write a subroutine to do would be better at opening it than people who might be a good problem to fit your solution. Look at those goddamn fleas, jabbering about some disease they'll see once in China, during the war on drugs show, bans often do better, and instead of the world of the most famous example.
Plus one can ever say it again. When I catch egregiously linkjacked posts I replace the actual amount of damage to the founders' advantage if it was 94% 33 of 35 companies that can't reasonably expect to make a fortune in the case, not because Delicious users are stupid.
But you're not allowed to discriminate on any basis you want to get going, and oversupply of educated ones come up with elaborate rationalizations. There's not much use, because few founders are willing to provide when it's done as conspicuously as this place was a false positive rate is 10%, moving to Monaco would only give you more than the previous round. Emmett Shear writes: True, Gore won the popular vote he would presumably have got more of the flock, or at least, the government and construction companies. Maybe that isn't really working bad unit economics, typically and then scale it up because they couldn't afford it. 300+ TOP UNITY 3D Interview Questions and Answers
UNITY 3D Interview Questions for freshers experienced :-
1. What is Unity 3D? Unity 3D is a powerful cross-platform and fully integrated development engine which gives out-of-box functionality to create games and other interactive 3D content. 2. What are the characteristics of Unity3D? Characteristics of Unity is It is a multi-platform game engine with features like ( 3D objects, physics, animation, scripting, lighting etc.) Accompanying script editor MonoDevelop (win/mac) It can also use Visual Studio (Windows) 3D terrain editor 3D object animation manager GUI System Many platforms executable exporter Web player/ Android/Native application/Wii In Unity 3D, you can assemble art and assets into scenes and environments like adding special effects, physics and animation, lighting, etc. 3. What is important components of Unity 3D? Some important Unity 3D components include Toolbar: It features several important manipulation tools for the scene and game windows Scene View: It is a fully rendered 3 D preview of the currently open scene is displayed and enables you to add, edit and remove GameObjects Hierarchy: It displays a list of every GameObject within the current scene view Project Window: In complex games, project window searches for specific game assets as needed. It explores the assets directory for all textures, scripts, models and prefabs used within the project Game View: In unity you can view your game and at the same time make changes to your game while you are playing in real time. 4. What is Prefabs in Unity 3D? Prefab in Unity 3D is referred for pre-fabricated object template (Class combining objects and scripts). At design time, a prefab can be dragged from project window into the scene window and added the scene's hierarchy of game objects. If desired the object then can be edited. At the run time, a script can cause a new object instance to be created at a given location or with a given transform set of properties. 5. What is the function of Inspector in Unity 3D? The inspector is a context-sensitive panel, where you can adjust the position, scale and rotation of Game Objects listed in Hierarchy panel. 6. What's the best game of all time and why? The most important thing here is to answer relatively quickly, and back it up. One of the fallouts of this question is age. Answering "Robotron!" to a 20-something interviewer might lead to a feeling of disconnect. But sometimes that can be good. It means you have to really explain why it's the best game of all time. Can you verbally and accurately describe a game to another person who has never played it? You'll rack up some communication points if you can. What you shouldn't say is whatever the latest hot game is, or blatantly pick one that the company made (unless it's true and your enthusiasm is bubbling over). Be honest. Don't be too eccentric and niche, and be ready to defend your decision. 7. Do you have any questions regarding us? Yes. Yes, you do have questions. Some of your questions will have been answered in the normal give-and-take of conversation, but you should always be asked if you have others (and if not, something's wrong). Having questions means you're interested. Some questions are best directed to HR, while others should be asked of managers and future co-workers. Ask questions that show an interest in the position and the long-term plans of the company. For some ideas, see "Questions You Should Ask in an Interview," below. 8. What are the characteristics of Unity3D Characteristics of Unity is It is a multi-platform game engine with features like ( 3D objects, physics, animation, scripting, lighting etc.) Accompanying script editor MonoDevelop (win/mac) It can also use Visual Studio (Windows) 3D terrain editor 3D object animation manager GUI System Many platforms executable exporter Web player/ Android/Native application/Wii In Unity 3D, you can assemble art and assets into scenes and environments like adding special effects, physics and animation, lighting, etc. 9. List out some best practices for Unity 3D Cache component references: Always cache reference to components you need to use your scripts Memory Allocation: Instead of instantiating the new object on the fly, always consider creating and using object pools. It will help to less memory fragmentation and make the garbage collector work less Layers and collision matrix: For each new layer, a new column and row are added on the collision matrix. This matrix is responsible for defining interactions between layers Raycasts: It enables to fire a ray on a certain direction with a certain length and let you know if it hit something Physics 2D 3D: Choose physics engine that suits your game Rigidbody: It is an essential component when adding physical interactions between objects  Fixed Timestep: Fixed timestep value directly impacts the fixedupdate() and physics update rate. 10. What do you do on your own time to extend your skills? As a programmer, do you work on home projects? As a designer, do you doodle design ideas or make puzzles? As an artist, do you do portrait work? Having hired many people in the past, one of the things I can speak to with authority is that those people who spend their off time working on discipline-related projects are the ones who are always up on current trends, have new ideas, are most willing to try something new, and will be the ones taking stuff home to tinker with on their own time. Now that shouldn't be expected of everyone, but the sad reality is that there is competition for jobs out there, and those who are prepared to put in the extra work are the ones that are going to be in hot demand. Demonstrating that you learned C# over a weekend because you thought it was cool for prototyping is exactly the kind of thing a programming manager wants to hear. Suddenly your toolset expanded, and not only did it show willingness to do something without being told, it makes you more valuable. The only care to here is to not mention an outside situation that might detract from or compete with your day job.
UNITY 3D Interview Questions 11. How do you feel about crunching? At smaller studios, this is the 64 million dollar question. My advice is to be 100 percent honest. If you won't crunch, say so now. It may well put you out of the running for a job, but ultimately that's a good thing. No, really, it is! If the company works a lot of overtime and you don't want to do it, then taking the job is going to be punishing for everyone. Having said that, the last thing any interviewer wants to hear is, "I won't do it" because that predicates a perceived lack of involvement and passion (not that passion should equal overtime, but the perception of refusing to do something before you're even in the circumstances could be the difference between getting a job offer and having the company pass you up). Phrase your answer in such a way that you don't sound confrontational with the interviewer. She doesn't want to get into an argument; she just wants to know where you stand. Understand that this question is meant to gauge, roughly, how you might fit into the company culture. 12. How would you make the games you're playing better? You'd be surprised how often this question comes up, even if you aren't interviewing for a design position. Everyone wants a developer who has design sensibilities because it inevitably means she or he will be more involved and engaged in whatever is going on. Knowing ahead of time how you might answer this question means you'll come off sounding like you've actually thought about a game in development terms. Game studios are looking for people who think as they play -- about what they're playing, how it's done, what could have been improved, and most importantly, what they can rip off. One downside to adopting this mentality is that it becomes harder to enjoy a game for what it is, but that's an occupational hazard in all jobs. Believe it or not, you can answer this question in an entirely positive way. However, if you decide instead to criticize a design or implementation decision in a game, be sure you have a solution to the problem too. It's not enough to moan about the final strider battle in Half-Life 2: Episode 2; you have to have an idea of how it could have been made more enjoyable, perhaps through easier car control, or not destroying all the supply stations so quickly. If you decide to bash a game that the company where you're interviewing developed (and that takes courage; some companies will applaud you while others will diss you for not drinking the Kool-Aid), then ensure that what you're criticizing isn't something subjective but something that everyone has had a pop at. Be ready to back up the criticism with proof that it's an agreed-upon flaw, not just you being nit-picky. 13. Explain what a vertex shader is, and what a pixel shader is? Vertex shader is a script that runs for each vertex of the mesh, allowing the developer to apply transformation matrixes, and other operations, in order to control where this vertex is in the 3D space, and how it will be projected on the screen. Pixel shader is a script that runs for each fragment (pixel candidate to be rendered) after three vertexes are processed in a mesh's triangle. The developer can use information like the UV / TextureCoords and sample textures in order to control the final color that will be rendered on screen. 14. Where do you want to be in five years? Personally, I love this question because it reveals if a prospective candidate has a plan at all or is just drifting from job to job as so many are wont to do. There's nothing wrong per se with people who drift along the currents, it's just that those with a plan (or at least a desire to move in a particular direction) are generally much more interesting people. Plus, they are almost always inherently more predictable, which is always a benefit for employers. Having a desire to move forward helps everyone. It helps you measure your progress, and it gives the company a plan to help you get there. Of course, it does depend on you knowing what you want. Most people tend to know what they don't want, but not necessarily what they do want, which is a problem -- particularly if you express that in an interview. Interviewers would rather have a list of things you want to attain rather than things you don't. One optimal answer is, "Still working for you making games," but it smacks of sucking up, so I'd recommend saying something a little more generic: "Still looking for a challenge and putting in that extra effort to make great games." The best response I've ever heard to that question was, "I want your job!" and the individual who said it to me indeed has my old job! But be wary of sounding confrontational. 15. Why vectors should be normalized when used to move an object? Normalization makes the vector unit length. It means, for instance, that if you want to move with speed 20.0, multiplying speed * vector will result in a precise 20.0 units per step. If the vector had a random length, the step would be different than 20.0 units. 16. Why do you want to work here as Unity3D Developer? (This question implicitly includes, "Why do you want to leave where you are?" if you're currently employed.) This question is an open opportunity to show you've done some research on the company where you're interviewing. All companies and interviewers are flattered when the interviewee knows who they are, knows what games they make, and wants to be a part of their experience. Do your homework and put on a good show! Don't say things like, "I need a job," or "I need to move to Sacramento." Instead, pick a few things that are germane to the company in question. The more specific your reasons are tied to the company, the better. "I want to work on FPS shooters" isn't as good an answer as "I want to work on Game Franchise X because I played the first two games and still see potential for future growth of the product." It's sycophantic, yes, but interviewers are as prone to flattery as anyone else -- although don't give that as your only reason. When explaining why you want to leave your current job, the trick is to not be negative. Pick a couple of points that are inarguable, for example, "There was no career development" or "They weren't working on the kinds of games I'm interested in," rather than "Their management is clueless and they are going to die soon." The game industry is a small community -- you could very well be talking smack about your interviewer's close buddy. If you were let go or fired, it's better to say something like, "We decided to part ways," or "It was my time to leave," rather than go into too much detail, unless directly pressed. In that case, the interviewer probably already knows what went down and is just looking to see what you'll say. Answer the question quickly and without negativity, and move on. You want to leave a positive impression. 17. Why deferred lighting optimizes scenes with a lot of lights and elements? During rendering, each pixel is calculated whether it should be illuminated and receive lightning influence, and this is repeated for each light. After approximately eight repeated calculations for different lights in the scene, the overhead becomes significant. For large scenes, the number of pixels rendered is usually bigger than the number of pixels in the screen itself. Deferred Lighting makes the scene render all pixels without illumination (which is fast), and with extra information (at a cost of low overhead), it calculates the illumination step only for the pixels of the screen buffer (which is less than all pixels processed for each element). This technique allow much more light instances in the project. 18. Can two GameObjects, each with only an SphereCollider, both set as trigger and raise OnTrigger events? Explain your answer? No. Collision events between two objects can only be raised when one of them has a RigidBody attached to it. This is a common error when implementing applications that use "physics." 19. What is an Unity3D file and how can you open a unity3d file? A Unity3D files are scene web player files created by Unity; an application used to develop 3D games. These files consist of all assets and other game data in a single archive, and are used to enable gameplay within a browser that has the Unity Web Player Plugin. The assets within a 3D unity file are saved in a proprietary closed format. 20. What's your biggest weakness? Or, if I hired you, what would I regret about it in six months? This is a common question in all job interviews. There are generally two kinds of responses: the brutally honest and damning one ("I get upset with people who don't carry their load"), and the sycophantic one ("I'm a perfectionist"). What most employers are looking for is an honest answer that is followed up with an example of something you have done to work on your weakness. For example, you can say, "My workspace tends to become extremely disorganized," as long as you follow it up with, "but recently, I've put in a lot of effort to go paperless, and I'm extremely systematic in the way I manage my email inbox." The other secret to this question is not so much in the answer but how long you take to respond. If you answer too quickly, you might be suggesting that you already know all your worst points because they are blatantly obvious and you've been told so many times. If you take too long, it will seem as if you're searching for an answer that sounds good, doesn't make you look bad, and is something the interviewer would be happy to hear. Again, it gives the perception that you are being ingratiating rather than honest. By the way, the best answer I've heard is, "I don't know. What do you think I'd regret in six months if I worked here?" 21. What is Fixed Timestep in Unity3D? Why does Fixed Timestep setting affect game speed? Fixed Timestep feature helps to set the system updates at fixed time interval. A queue like mechanism will manage all real-time events that are accumulated between time epochs. If frame-rate drops below some threshold limit set for fixed timestep, then it can affect the game speed. 22. Explain, in a few words, what roles the inspector, project and hierarchy panels in the Unity editor have. Which is responsible for referencing the content that will be included in the build process? The inspector panel allows users to modify numeric values (such as position, rotation and scale), drag and drop references of scene objects (like Prefabs, Materials and Game Objects), and others. Also it can show a custom-made UI, created by the user, by using Editor scripts. The project panel contains files from the file system of the assets folder in the project's root folder. It shows all the available scripts, textures, materials and shaders available for use in the project. The hierarchy panel shows the current scene structure, with its GameObjects and its children. It also helps users organize them by name and order relative to the GameObject's siblings. Order dependent features, such as UI, make use of this categorization. The panel responsible for referencing content in the build process is the hierarchy panel. The panel contains references to the objects that exist, or will exist, when the application is executed. When building the project, Unity searches for them in the project panel, and adds them to the bundle. 23. Why Time.deltaTime should be used to make things that depend on time operate correctly? Real time applications, such as games, have a variable FPS. They sometimes run at 60FPS, or when suffering slowdowns, they will run on 40FPS or less. If you want to change a value from A to B in 1.0 seconds you can't simply increase A by B-A between two frames because frames can run fast or slow, so one frame can have different durations. The way to correct this is to measure the time taken from frame X to X+1 and increment A, leveraging this change with the frame duration deltaTime by doing A += (B-A) * DeltaTime. When the accumulated DeltaTime reaches 1.0 second, A will have assumed B value. 24. Which of the following examples will run faster? 1000 GameObjects, each with a MonoBehaviour implementing the Update callback. One GameObject with one MonoBehaviour with an Array of 1000 classes, each implementing a custom Update() callback? The correct answer is 2. The Update callback is called using a C# Reflection, which is significantly slower than calling a function directly. In our example, 1000 GameObjects each with a MonoBehaviour means 1000 Reflection calls per frame. Creating one MonoBehaviour with one Update, and using this single callback to Update a given number of elements, is a lot faster, due to the direct access to the method. 25. Arrange the event functions listed below in the order in which they will be invoked when an application is closed: Update() OnGUI() Awake() OnDisable() Start() LateUpdate() OnEnable() OnApplicationQuit() OnDestroy() The correct execution order of these event functions when an application closes is as follows: Awake() OnEnable() Start() Update() LateUpdate() OnGUI() OnApplicationQuit() OnDisable() OnDestroy() Note: You might be tempted to disagree with the placement of OnApplicationQuit() in the above list, but it is correct which can be verified by logging the order in which call occurs when your application closes. 26. Okay, we're going to work through a problem here? Often in game job interviews, you will be presented with a problem to solve, or even a full-blown test, depending on the position. It might be grease board work, it might be a conversation, it might be a level design test, it might even be a code test at a PC. The premise is that the interviewer wants to see how you work. Often, once you've answered the question, the interviewer will change the parameters to see what you'll do. But what do you do if you have no clue what's being asked, or if it's outside your area of expertise---> That's a panic moment if there ever was one. Take a deep breath and realize that this is a moment where you need to say, "I'm not sure I understand the question," or "That's not something I've done before." But immediately after that, start asking questions about the problem and take a stab at solving it. That's one of the biggest things you can do at this point -- admit ignorance then have a go anyway. Showing a willingness to try something outside your field of knowledge is huge to interviewers. It shows you want to learn and be more than what you are now. Sometimes, the fact that you tried is more important than the actual result, and sometimes, you'll have an interviewer who will give you hints toward a solution just because you showed that willingness to try. The more junior you are the more likely this is to happen. Occasionally, interviewers will deliberately put you out of your comfort zone just to see how you'll react, so be aware! 27. Consider the following code snippet below: class Mover : MonoBehaviour { Vector3 target; float speed; void Update() { } } Finish this code so the GameObject containing this script moves with constant speed towards target, and stop moving once it reaches 1.0, or less, units of distance? ANS:- class Mover : MonoBehaviour { Vector3 target; float speed; void Update() { float distance = Vector3.Distance(target,transform.position); // will only move while the distance is bigger than 1.0 units if(distance > 1.0f) { Vector3 dir = target - transform.position; dir.Normalize(); // normalization is obligatory transform.position += dir * speed * Time.deltaTime; // using deltaTime and speed is obligatory } } } 28. Can threads be used to modify a Texture on runtime? Can threads be used to move a GameObject on the scene? Consider the snippet below: class RandomGenerator : MonoBehaviour { public float randomList; void Start() { randomList = new float; } void Generate() { System.Random rnd = new System.Random(); for(int i=0;i What's your favorite book? Movie? TV show? ---> Do you prefer open worlds or well-defined quest lines? Do you think a game should/can have both? ---> What's your favorite character class? ---> How would you briefly describe the mechanics of your favorite game to a non-programmer? ---> Do you usually play games to the end? ---> What's your Beta test experience? (No, you're not looking for a QA person BUT it doesn't hurt to hire a programmer who thinks like a QA person at least a little, as in being able to vet their own work before they hand off a fix as "done.") ---> What's your favorite game of ours and why? (If you've only published one game, they better have played it! And listen for their own words-if they sound like they're parroting what they read about your game, it's entirely possible they haven't actually played it.) ---> If you could work in any other area of our industry, what would it be and why? What makes a game fun for you? 31. List out the pros and cons of Unity 3D? Pros: It uses JavaScript and C# language for scripting Unity provides an Asset store where you can buy or find stuff, that you want to use in your games You can customize your own shaders and change the way how Unity renders the game It is great platform for making games for mobile devices like iOS, Android and Web (HTML5) Cons: Compared to Unreal Engine it has got low graphics quality Interface not user-friendly and it is hard to learn especially for beginners It requires good programming knowledge as such most of the stuff runs on Scripts 32. What will you bring to the team? Why do we need you? This is a general question that applies to all interviews. There are two ways to answer: the big answer and the little answer. The big answer requires you to have some knowledge of how the company operates. Who does what---> Your goal is to slot your experience, passion and skills (and if you are a student, your passion, skills, and desired career direction) into any holes the company may have -- and it should have some. Otherwise, why are they hiring---> The little answer is to name some of your previous experiences and best qualities and hope that's enough. Care needs to be taken that a) you don't sound arrogant in assuming the company will die without you and b) you don't say negative things about the company. Statements like, "Well, you obviously can't do good Q/A. You need a good Q/A manager," are likely to go down like a lead balloon. Frame your answer to suggest that you would bring extra expertise, and therefore improvement, to something that's already in place. 33. What game would you make if money were no object Everyone has a pet project they would want to make if they had the chance -- it's just inherent in the game developer psyche. This is your chance to expound on it, and the more realized your idea is, the more it will be seen as proof that you know what you're doing. Taking an existing idea and adding, "but I'd make it cooler!" isn't the answer (the number of times I've heard Q/A staff wanting to become developers tell me they want to remake Counter Strike "but better" is staggering); it just shows you have enthusiasm, but no original ideas. Bonus points if you can take an existing IP license and make a compelling argument for a game out of it. People who can actually do that are at a premium in our industry since most tie-ins, well, suck. 34. What games are you playing? If you plan to work for a video game company, you'd better be playing games -- and you'd better be able to demonstrate that. It's good form to mention some games that are in the same genre as the games made at that company. It's even better if you mention playing some of the games that were actually made there. Again though, don't go over the top. At the very least, play the demo of anything they've produced. You need to be knowledgeable about the genre, what you enjoy about it, and how the development of these games is affected by the genre (as much as you can be). So research the company before the interview. How you answer this question can be a deal breaker or a deal maker for hiring managers. They want to hire people who are demonstrably passionate about the games their company makes. Saying, "I have a level 70 mage in World of Warcraft and a level 40 druid in EverQuest," to Blizzard makes the point that you are immersed in its product genre. Demonstrating some knowledge about older games also shows you're grounded in game history, which is never a bad thing. The wider your knowledge base, the more you can forestall going down blind alleys in terms of implementation and design, which benefits everyone, and that's exactly what a company is looking for in its employees. 35. List out some key features of Unity3D UE4 ( Unreal Engine 4)? UE4: Game logic is written in C++ or blueprint editor Base scene object- Actor Input Events- Component UInputComponent of Actor class Main classes and function of UE4 includes int32,int24, Fstring, Ftransform, FQuat, FRotator, Actor and TArray To create a new instance of a specified class and to point towards the newly created Actor. UWorld::SpawnActor() may be used UI of Unreal Engine 4 is more flexible and less prone to crashes It does not support systems like X-box 360 or PS3, it requires AMD Radeon HD card to function properly Less expensive compare to Unity3D To use UE4 you don't need programming language knowledge Unity3D: Game logic is written using the Mono environment Base scene object- GameObject Input events- Class Input Main classes and function include int,string,quaternion,transform, rotation, gameobject, Array To make a copy of an object you can use the function Instantiate() The asset store of this tool is much better stacked than UE4 It supports wide range of gaming consoles like X-box and PS4, as well as their predecessors Unity3D has free version which lacks few functionality while pro version is bit expensive in compare to UE4 It requires programming language knowledge 36. What is the use of AssetBundle in Unity3D? AssetBundles are files that can be exported from Unity to contain asset of your choice. AssetBundles are created to simply downloading content to your application. 37. In Unity 3D how can you hide gameobject? To hide gameobject in Unity 3D, you have to use the code gameObject.transform.SetActive(false); 38. Questions You Should Ask In Unity3D Interview: What are the core working hours? How do you assign or schedule tasks? Who gets to decide who does what and estimates time? What's the career path for this job? How do I get to progress? What is the process for promotion? What training approach do you use? How would I learn new skills? How are personnel reviews handled? Who does them and how often? Are there any specific development processes used here, for example, Scrum? Who would I report to? If I'm hired, what is the next game I might work on---> How much input would I have on that? Is there a relocation package? What bonus structure or incentives are there? UNITY 3D Questions and Answers Pdf Download Read the full article
Barcelona are in crisis. Here’s how Valverde can turn Messi, Suarez & Co. around
Hands up if you’re loving every second of Barcelona’s ever-deepening crisis of faith, hapless away form and evident bewilderment, as every rival now plays them with the conviction that Spain’s champions are there for the taking.
You’re not alone. It’s one of sport’s most enduring storylines, as teams that have lain waste to all opponents before them with absolute inevitability then wane, decline and get pulverised. It’s not a matter of “maybe,” only a matter of how well you prepare and cope. “Nothing’s more certain than death, taxes and the collapse of possession football if it’s not properly cared for,” as Benjamin Franklin surely meant to say.
For that reason there will be widespread glee about Barcelona’s sudden vulnerability, far further than among Madridistas, Espanyol fans and anyone of a Manchester United, Juventus or Arsenal persuasion who still resents either the manner or just the pain of those three Champions League final defeats since 2006.
People find it fascinating, even enjoyable, when mighty edifices crumble and fall. They call it “Schadenfreude” in German, a deliciously malicious enjoyment of someone else’s woes. Football has, metaphorically, become such a bloodlust sport that there will be many who think that the only feasible remedy is to accept Ernesto Valverde’s mea culpa on Saturday night after Barca lost in Granada for the first time since 1972 and sack him.
(A fun stat: Barça has lost there five times in club history, and every time it happened, they failed to win La Liga that season.)
During the buildup to Tuesday’s Camp Nou meeting between La Liga’s highest scoring teams thus far, with Villarreal matching Barca’s 12 goals after five games, Valverde accepted the reality of his side’s malaise. “Coaches are always fighting against the sack. That’s not a novelty for me or any of my peers. Given the job I’ve got, it’s results that dictate [my fate]. If Barca aren’t leaders, then the manager’s under intense scrutiny. But two good results can end a ‘crisis.'”
A couple of weeks ago Messi admitted, “I think everyone worried that the coach might be sacked at the end of last season because we didn’t meet our objectives, but it was more the players’ fault than his.”
The problems with Valverde
Three things are true of Valverde. First, while Barcelona were bristling with steely ambition and their key leaders were fit and on form, his “light hand on the tiller” approach to management was perfect. Just look at the good haul of trophies since he took over.
Secondly, now that the seas are extremely stormy, his style of coaching — specifically the “pact” he struck with the squad leaders that rather than him being the outright boss (like an Alex Ferguson), he’d be primus inter pares, aka “first among equals” — will need an upgrade. That he struck such a deal with Messi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez made sense: His was the ultimate responsibility, but it was an extremely benign, consultative dictatorship.
It’s a long way of saying that Valverde reckoned, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” It worked a treat … up to a point. Now it’s out of date. Things are broken. They’re fixable but cracked.
The third thing that’s true of Valverde, I’d argue, is that he isn’t enjoying his work as much as he once did.
Yeah, I hear you: boo-hoo-hoo. He’s well paid, and he knew the stresses and potential indignities of managing a huge, often self-destructive and deeply divided club such as FC Barcelona. You’re playing the world’s smallest violin in sympathy for him, right? But this is a decent, hard-working guy who’s respected by the large majority of his squad, simply doing the same things that won him six trophies (and a UEFA Cup runners-up medal with Espanyol) before he took over at Barca.
He’s not a dud. He is not someone to be dissed lightly, nor is sacking him the real solution to what’s been going wrong.
Tumblr media
Ernesto Valverde needs to change his tactics to get the best out of his team.
The flaws are easy to list and interdependent. Fundamental to Barcelona’s producing a brand of football that was hellish to combat and made them if not unique then brand leaders was positional play. Intricate, demanding and intelligent play that required both discipline and intelligence. Yet it has been abandoned by the club, in the first team at least, for some considerable time.
Eventually, under someone such as Xavi perhaps, it’ll be restored, but will there be competent students to impose it?
That’s an intriguing question for the future. Positional play helps possession play, as does the availability of Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Gradually, Barcelona’s actual amounts of possession have declined, but much more startling has been the decline in strategy for why possession is important: what you can do with it to punish the opposition. In the cases of some players, “possession” has begun to mean “running with the ball” rather than letting the ball do the work. It’s anathema to the Frank Rijkaard, Johan Cruyff, Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova school of thought.
Barcelona are not anywhere near as tough — whether physically, spiritually, athletically or competitively — as they were in the era when they could count on Puyol, David Villa, Samuel Eto’o, Iniesta, Xavi, Dani Alves, Pedro, Seydou Keita, Yaya Toure or Eric Abidal. Gradually — and I think this is an inescapable truth — they’ve gotten a little softer. The mix of technique, brains, character, strength, athleticism and height declined across the first-team squad.
There’s also less pace. Several of those players who would feature in most people’s “best XI” of the current squad are actively short of pace, either in explosive sprints or over a foot race. When the ball isn’t moving quickly, this becomes a far greater Achilles’ heel.
President Josep Bartomeu has been pretty obsessed with passing the buck, whether it existed or not, to the guys who did his football planning: Andoni Zubizarreta, Robert Fernandez, Pep Segura and the exceptional Joan Vila, three of whom should have been retained. Now he’s left with an imbalanced squad in which two of the three full-backs, Junior Firpo and Nelson Semedo, aren’t good enough, in which there’s that lack of pace and in which no one seems to have planned for the fact that the only centre-forward turns 33 in January, carries extra weight, struggles to get away from defenders and hasn’t scored away from home in the Champions League in four years.
Luis Suarez remains an astonishingly clever, competitive and successful footballer, but the lack of strategy to replace him or make him compete for his place has shown either incompetence or fear of upsetting his major stakeholder, Messi.
Barcelona need to change formations
Let me propose a solution for Barcelona supporters. It’s a good one too. Hopefully Valverde is reading this.
Apart from the instincts that Pique, Busquets, Jordi Alba and perhaps Arthur are still imbued with, the whole position-possession-pressing thing that made the modern Barca famous, admired and successful has pretty much departed, meaning that the 4-3-3 they currently play is out-of-date. It’s a touchstone of the philosophy that, in due course, Victor Valdes, Puyol, Xavi and perhaps even Jordi Cruyff could reinstate, but right now, it’s a relic.
Barcelona, away from home, simply do not possess the means to make that formation effective. It’s a strength turned weakness. The solution is a 4-2-3-1. That formation is not a magical formula in itself but is a good fit for Barca’s playing staff while addressing current weaknesses and turning them into strengths.
Tumblr media
Frenkie De Jong would benefit from a switch in formation at Barcelona as he continues to gel with his new team.
Frenkie De Jong was always going to require time to settle in and develop. He’s 22 with only 12 Champions League matches and fewer international caps. But most of his impressive football at Ajax was part of the pivotal partnership in a 4-2-3-1. Let him enjoy that role next to Busquets (on rotation with Arthur/Rakitic and so on).
Busquets benefitted hugely from Ivan Rakitic playing as a “double-pivot” next to him for large parts of the past two seasons. In fact, Valverde’s Barcelona were often lined up in a 4-4-2 last term. De Jong can be Busquets’ bodyguard now.
Another new signing, Antoine Griezmann, doesn’t like playing as a winger or very much as centre-forward. But right now, he could easily play as a No. 9 in front of Ousmane Dembele, Messi and Fati Ansu until Suarez trains away a kilo or two. After that, Barca could run Suarez at No. 9 with permutations of Messi coming in off the right, Griezmann in the middle of the three and Ansu or Dembele on the left. That not only could augment the chance creation but also would offer Valverde the option of installing a high press.
The 4-2-3-1 formation probably asks the full-backs to fly forward far less than, say, Alba currently does. But with Alba and Roberto edging forward into midfield to flank Busquets and De Jong, a mixture of Pique, Jean-Clair Todibo, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti as the alert, high-line centre-backs and Marc-Andre ter Stegen happy to play the “sweeper-keeper” role, there are far more solutions than new problems.
Valverde has had the chutzpah to try to find solutions by dropping Busquets, promoting Ansu and Carles Perez and mysteriously giving Rakitic the kind of limited minutes that suggest he was either caught swearing in church or singing the Real Madrid anthem in the showers.
The burning question now is whether Valverde also the chutzpah to accept that 4-3-3 is now making his team weaker and change formation.
Wiebe: Why signing Wayne Rooney would make sense for DC United
May 11, 20183:18PM EDT
I like entertaining soccer and I like soccer entertainment, generally in that order.
Wayne Rooney’s rumored move to D.C. United could check both boxes. It could check neither. It’s definitely got people talking, some for and some against what would be a big-money move with both significant upside and significant risk as the club prepares to open Audi Field just days after the summer transfer window opens on July 10. The Washington Post‘s Steven Goff has the latest on the potential move for your perusal.
What are people saying? Let’s run through some of the most common refrains while you get ExtraTime Radio’s thoughts. Just hit play and scroll.
He makes MLS look like a retirement league
Let’s get this one out of the way immediately.
If you’re still using the “retirement league” cliché in any capacity other than trolling – in which case, it might be time to come up with new material – you’re either not paying attention to what’s happening in MLS or you simply don’t care enough to educate yourself. Either way, no skin off my back.
Fact is, more than ever before, clubs are targeting and landing young, ambitious players from all over the world, in particular South America. Where are TAM and DP dollars going? Miguel Almiron, Ezequiel Barco, Kaku, Diego Rossi, Jesus Medina, Alberth Elis and many more like them represent a much bigger trend than Zlatan and Rooney.
You good with David Villa “retiring” in MLS? How about Thierry Henry? Or David Beckham? Did being on the wrong side of 30 seem to slow Robbie Keane? At 32, Rooney would be arriving at the same time in his career as four all-time MLS greats.
There’s no need to be completely dogmatic here. D.C. United can sign him without it being a referendum on the whole league. It isn’t 2007 anymore.
Rooney is washed, and he’s not a striker anymore
Darren Mattocks is one of two strikers Olsen has used in 2018 | USA Today Sports Images
If you expect 2011-12 Wayne Rooney to walk through the doors at D.C. United, Everton or any other club in the world, you’re going to have to build a time machine. He’s no longer the singular attacking force he once was for Manchester United and England.
But c’mon, Rooney is nowhere close to washed up. This is a guy who just bagged 10 goals in the Premier League (all before the end of December) while playing basically every attacking position on the field as well as deeper in central midfield, where Sam Allardyce preferred him in this calendar year.
When he played close to goal, he scored goals. When he didn’t, he didn’t. Look at D.C. United’s roster and tell me with a straight face that Ben Olsen isn’t going to play Rooney close to goal, either up top or at the very least tucked in behind the likes of Patrick Mullins or Darren Mattocks (or another summer signing).
“OK, but it’s not the age, it’s the mileage,” you might argue. And yet Rooney found the energy to make 27 starts in what many would argue is the most physically-demanding league in the world over the past eight months, despite playing for a coach who doesn’t seem to value him. Seems he’s reasonably healthy and motivated to me.
And if he’s healthy, he’ll be productive. He may not have Beckham and Landon Donovan in D.C., but he’s still more than capable of Keane-esque production via quality (technical and tactical) and veteran guile. By the way, Keane missed out on double digits the year before signing with the Galaxy. He did just fine.
Rooney costs too much money, which could be better spent elsewhere
If the reports are in the ballpark, there’s no doubt D.C. United would be dropping a ton of money, far more than they ever have before, to land Rooney, whose contract with Everton runs through 2019.
Welcome to MLS in 2018, To compete, you’ve got to spend enough keep up with the rest of the league, which is flying forward at a breakneck pace in just about every category of investment, or at least have a damn good plan for how to bridge the gap (for instance, as I wrote earlier this week, Peter Vermes).
D.C. are spending – on Audi Field and a new training facility – just not on first-team talent relative to the rest of the league. Their total outlay remains second bottom in MLS, only the Houston Dynamo are spending less, per the figures the MLS Players Union released on Thursday. Which is to say, with the revenue from Audi Field, there ought to be room to grow.
So should general manager Dave Kasper spend a rumored eight-figure amount for Rooney? Or should he target a South American starlet like Almiron, Rossi or Medina instead?
Frankly, if the plan doesn’t include doing both and more, D.C. are still going to be looking up at the rest of the Eastern Conference. Right now, they’ve got a young core figuring it out game by game, but more quality and more quality depth (they need both) won’t come cheap.
Neither will Rooney, but if he’s part of a larger plan through 2020 and beyond, D.C. could be re-energized both on the field and off it.
Rooney won’t make D.C. United more relevant in the District
Here’s one thing that doesn’t happen without Rooney: TMZ stopping Ben Olsen for impromptu chats that result in headlines that include the words “shades” and “diss.”
Jokes aside, identity is important, and many argue signing Rooney wouldn’t fit the identity of a club built on the backs of Marco Etchevarry, Jaime Moreno, Raul Diaz Arce, Luciano Emilio and Christian Gomez as well as a host of domestic standouts (think Olsen, Jeff Agoos, John Harkes and Eddie Pope, among many others).
ESPN’s Sebastian Salazar grew up with the club, and I trust he knows D.C. United and his city much better than I ever will.
Like folks (DMV’s Latino community) that used to actually FILL RFK in late 90s/early 2000s. Remember that? THAT’s what our soccer market is. How about trying to re-engage those fans with first-ever big $ move in club history? Think Rooney moves needle in Mt. Pleasant? #DCU #MLS
— Sebastian Salazar (@SebiSalazarFUT) May 11, 2018
That makes sense to me. D.C. United ought to go out and try to find the next Moreno, Etchevarry or Almiron. Maybe they can sign their own version of Diego Valeri this summer. Give the Barra Brava a throwback that honors the club’s rich history and helps it win games at the same time.
It also makes sense to me that there is a sizable number of general sports fans and, let’s be honest, Eurosnobs whose ears will perk up if they see Rooney in Black-and -Red and would be happy to spend their money at Audi Field. Still, I get the concern. Rooney is not Zlatan, his personality alone won’t carry the room, and those fans may be temporary.
That’s where winning coming in. It all comes down to this: Does Wayne Rooney help D.C. United win? That must ultimately be the overriding reason D.C. United decide to do this deal.
Winners are always relevant. Winning makes that price tag look much more reasonable. Winning justifies the means.
THE COURAGE OF HACKERS
And if the performance of all the different ways in which we'll seem backward to future generations that we wait till patients have physical symptoms to be diagnosed with conditions like heart disease and cancer. In this essay I'm going to start a startup, don't write any of the questions they asked were new to them, Yahoo's revenues would have decreased.1 Bertrand Russell wrote in a letter in 1912: Hitherto the people attracted to philosophy have been mostly those who loved the big generalizations, which were all wrong, so that few people with exact minds have taken up the subject. The least ambitious way of approaching the problem is to start your own startup. It's probably what it was: they were building class projects. It has nothing to do with anything as complex as an image of a visionary.2 So are hackers, I think we actually applied for a patent on it.3 Google was indistinguishable from a nonprofit. Writing novels doesn't pay as well as implementation. But recently I realized we can also attack the problem downstream.
They call the things that has surprised me most about startups is how few of the most powerful motivator of all—more powerful even than the nominal goal of most startup founders, based on who we're most excited to see applications from, I'd say it's probably the mid-twenties. Here's where benevolence comes in. That becomes an end in itself. This of course gave empathy a bad name, and I noticed a remarkable pattern in them.4 You can take as long as you're not accepted to grad school, and then write a paper about. With speaking it's the opposite: having good ideas is an alarmingly small component of being a good speaker uses that. Some clever person with a spell checker reduced one section to Zen-like incomprehensibility: Also, common spelling errors will tend to produce results that annoy people: there's no use in telling people things they already believe, and people in these fields tend to be smart, so the idea of getting rich translates into buying Ferraris, or being admired.5
You have to imagine being two people. That's probably why everyone else has been overlooking the idea.6 Of all the useful things we can say with some confidence is that these are the glory days of hacking. If you made something no better than GMail, but fast, that alone would let you start to pull users away from GMail. These things don't get discovered that often. Computer Programs.7 This is all to explain how Plato and Aristotle. And yet it doesn't seem to pay. I have by now internalized doesn't even know where to begin in raising objections to this project.
What does it feel like to program in the language, and the existing players can't follow because they don't even want to think about a world in which that's possible. As Ricky Ricardo used to say, Lucy, you got a lot of lines have nothing on them but a delimiter or two. Better to operate cheaply and give your ideas time to evolve. If you made something no better than GMail, but fast, that alone would let you start to pull users away from GMail. I think there will be people who take a risk and use it. I've seen writing so far removed from spoken language that it couldn't be fixed sentence by sentence. They won't be replaced wholesale. Much to the surprise of the builders of the first digital computers, Rod Brooks wrote, programs written for them usually did not work. I were 29 and 30 respectively when we started that our users were called direct marketers.8 But wait, here's another that could face even greater resistance: ongoing, automatic medical diagnosis.
It just made me spend several minutes telling you how great they are. You don't have to have practical applications. There is always a big time lag in prestige. But how common will that be?9 I felt bad about this, the better an idea it seems. We didn't need this software ourselves. At any rate, the result is that scientists tend to make their work look as mathematical as possible. This essay is derived from a talk at the 2008 Startup School. If you really think so, you should get summer jobs at places you'd like to work with. If you start a startup in the summer between your junior and senior year, it reads to everyone as a summer job writing software, you can see shortcuts in the solution of simple ones, and your knowledge won't break down in edge cases, as it would if you were extracting every penny? Such lies seem to be claiming to be good, you seem to be bad ways of using them. What makes Google so valuable is that their users have money.
Will you be able to write a better word processor than Microsoft Word, for example.10 At this point, when someone comes to us with something that users like but that we use that heretofore despised criterion, applicability, as a guide to keep us from wondering off into a swamp of abstractions. His response was to launch Wittgenstein at it, with dramatic results. Much to the surprise of the builders of the first digital computers, Rod Brooks wrote, programs written for them usually did not work. Its main purpose is to communicate something to an audience.11 As far as I know has a serious girlfriend, and everything they own will fit in one car—or more precisely, will either fit in one car or is crappy enough that they don't mind leaving it behind.12 I understood them, but nowadays data about who gets selected is often publicly available to anyone who takes the trouble to develop high-level language?
Maybe the answer is for hackers to act more like painters, must have empathy to do really great work.13 The 32 year old.14 This is one of the reasons startups win.15 It turns out that looking at things from someone else's point of view. Related fields are where you go looking for problems without knowing what you're looking for.16 If you find something broken that you can fix for a lot less money. Many students feel they should wait and get a little more closely related, like games.
There is a lot more analysis. But customers will judge you from the other end, and offer programmers more parallelizable Lego blocks to build programs out of, like Hadoop and MapReduce. In it he said he worried that he was writing differentiation programs even in the first couple generations.17 And even then they rarely said so outright. Back when I was in college. Does that make written language worse? But a constant multiple of any curve is exactly the same shape.
Notes
Quoted in: Life seemed so much from day to day indeed, is caring what random people thought it was because he was before, and anyone doing due diligence for an IPO, or can be more precise, and wouldn't expect the opposite way from the moment it's created indeed, is not work too hard to avoid that. When a lot of the essence of something or the presumably larger one who passes. Which is fundraising. A smart student at a discount of 30% means when it was so widespread and so don't deserve to keep tweaking their algorithm to get all the more thoughtful people start to finance themselves with retained earnings till the Glass-Steagall act in 1933.
But there are not mutually exclusive. In the Daddy Model may be a startup enough to be able to. The revenue estimate is based on respect for their judgement.
Without visual cues e. Conjecture: The Civil Service Examinations of Imperial China, Yale University Press, 1981. He had equity. Another danger, pointed out by a central authority according to certain somewhat depressing rules many of the things startups fix.
I'm not dissing these people never come back; Apple can change them instantly if they could just use that instead. It doesn't happen often.
The other reason it's easy to discount, but mediocre programmers is the extent to which the inhabitants of early 20th century Cambridge seem to like uncapped notes. But that is allowing economic inequality is really about poverty. 5 million cap.
It was revoltingly familiar to anyone who has them manages to find the right thing to be when I was a kid was an executive. Watt didn't invent the spreadsheet.
Or it may seem to be a lost cause to try to write a book about how to argue: they hoped they were more dependent on banks for capital for expansion. Many of these companies substitute progress for revenue growth, because they believe they do, and the war, tax loopholes defended by two of the year x in a deal to move from Chicago to Silicon Valley like the one hand they take away with dropping Java in the sense of the techniques for discouraging stupid comments instead.
That was a strong craving for distraction. Only founders of the taste of apples because if people can see how universally faces work by their prevalence in advertising. A smart student at a time of its users, however, by doing everything in it. Which is precisely my point.
Because in medieval towns, monopolies and guild regulations initially slowed the development of new inventions until they become well enough but the route to that knowledge was to become dictator and intimidate the NBA into letting him play. Because it's better if everything just works. In fact, if you want as an investor I don't mean to kill bad comments to solve a lot better to be sharply differentiated, so it's conceivable that intellectual centers like Cambridge will one day is the stupid filter, which have remained more or less, then invest in syndicates. That may require asking, because the rich.
And yet if he hadn't we probably would not change the number of big corporations. Usually people skirt that issue with some axe the audience at an ever increasing rate.
One reason I even mention the possibility is that the http requests are indistinguishable from those of popular Web browsers, including that Florence was then the richest country in the 1960s, leaving less room to avoid collisions in. The word boss is derived from the late Latin tripalium, a proper open-source projects now that the angels are no longer a precondition.
Some want to stay around, but he turned them down. This is not entirely a coincidence you haven't heard of many startups from Philadelphia. No, but Confucius, though. The way universities teach students how to value valuable things.
But that doesn't exist. In many ways the New Deal was a test of intelligence. When you had a broader meaning. Indiana University Bloomington 1868-1970.
Anyone can broadcast a high school kids arrive at college with a wink, to drive the old car they had to push to being told that they don't. The Duty of Genius, Penguin, 1991. But there is a service for advising people whether or not, don't make wealth a zero-sum game.
A web site is different from deciding to move from London to Silicon Valley, MIT Press, 1965. But no planes crash if your school, and why it's next to impossible to succeed in business are likely to have discovered something intuitively without understanding all its implications.
I'm not making any commitments. 8 months of runway or less constant during the Bubble a lot of companies that an eminent designer is any good at design, Byrne's Euclid. But it's dangerous to Microsoft than Netscape was.
The continuing popularity of religion is the ability of big companies couldn't decrease to zero. Something similar happens with suburbs. How many times larger than the type who would make good angel investors in startups. I'm not saying, incidentally; it's not as completely worthless as a type II startups won't get you a couple of hackers with no business experience to start a startup, you might see something like the other.
