hey guysss!! o( ˶^▾^˶ )o it’s been a while! i haven’t actually posted since valentines so it feels like forever. i am back with an update on this genius thought i had a while ago ᕙ(‾̀◡‾́)ᕗ i finally got around making it! and man.. when i tell you guys, it took for fucking ever… but i love it!! it turned out perfect!!

in addition to sharing a small audio clip, i’m also going to give a rundown of the process in case you guys want to try or even just play around with elevenlabs.

i made the guided meditation very much catered to myself, of course. among the usual of these meditations, i have him (my s/o) describe my wr and what not— plus personal bits. i mixed the guided meditation with the ‘already there’ method (in a way) so it helps with the overall visualization as well. i also have a subliminal in the bg that i absolutely loveee. it’s perfect since there’s rain over the affirmations. (wr introduction coming soon!! perhaps)

⋆⋅☆⋅⋆rundown of the process⋆⋅☆⋅⋆

ᯓ★ to start off, i typed up what i wanted to be said in the guided meditation in my notes app.

ᯓ★ elevenlabs! i sample clips from a few different scenes in the show where he has just the perfect tone of voice i want. i remove the bg noise through a site and bring that over to elevenlabs— i create the voice in voicelab and boom, i have his voice ready to go. (to create voices, you have to pay :/ first month $1, after that $5)

ᯓ★ i start adding in the text of what i have him say— a long part of the process because of experimentation. i have to be very careful with this process so i don’t waste my quota (30k characters) +pro tip, if you decide to mess with elevenlabs, please PLEASE don’t add so much text at once. you have to break it up into little bits, maybe like 4 or 5 lines, maybe 7? max. this is because while the voice sounds good at first, it will start to skew into a drastically different voice. in my case, it’s starts to speed up and the whole voice changes into a british man??? i’m not entirely sure if that’s for everyone but definitely just be aware and mess around to see so you don’t waste your quota so fast (30k really isn’t a lot).

ᯓ★ i break up the text and generate multiple samples, i keep the ones i like and i continue until i am done. i’m then left with multiple samples to download.

ᯓ★ next utilize some kind of program to pull this all together. my hp laptop has its own program (microsoft clipchamp) that pulled up automatically and it was perfect. upload all of your samples as well as anything additional you might want to add.

ᯓ★ edit everything how you like. chop the clips up, space them out, etc etc,. after you’re done, export it and there you go!! from here you can upload to wherever you want. what i did is upload it to spotify through local files, i then downloaded it so i can play it on my phone and that’s it!!

this process for me was very long especially since i made mistakes. however, i loveee how it turned out. i definitely recommend doing this if you want, i think it’s a cute little project to do. i found it motivational and just fun ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

first of all this fic is perfect, show stopping, laugh out loud funny. SECOND OF ALL this fic is the best way to bully your lestappen friends into shipping landoscar because it actually has a super sweet established relationship lestappen side plot. also this whole fic is from max's pov which means you get a beautiful outsider pov look at the complete chaos that is lando and oscar pining for each other. delightfull really.

AnimagiC: Worth it or not?

I received the following PM the other day regarding Yuki Kajiura’s upcoming appearance at the German anime convention “AnimagiC”. I thought I would make a proper response post since I’m sure other people will be interested in this as well.

Hello Sarah! I'd like to ask your educated opinion about something, if it's not too much of a bother. I saw your post about Yuki Kajiura being invited to AnimagiC. I consider attending as this may be my one chance to see her and her singers perform live. I have never attended to such events before, so I'm not quite sure how things work. My question would be: Is there a realistic chance that not everyone who is interested will be able to participate at the concert? Since there are no separate tickets for the concert alone, how is it decided who goes and who doesn't if the venue reaches its capacity limit? Is it on a first come, first served basis? I realize that there will be multiple events happening simultaneously, and most probably not everyone will be interested in Kajiura's concert. Still, if I had to trample over others just to get myself a spot (and as a result perhaps they wouldn't be able to participate), then such a place is not for me. Obviously, I'm asking in general as I cannot expect you to know the details about the upcoming convention. I don't know whether I was able to convey my thoughts properly. Thank you in advance!

Key facts

AnimagiC 2023 takes place from Aug 4th to 6th at the Congress Center Rosengarten in Germany (it’s a 15-minute walk from Mannheim central station). With roughly 25k-30k visitors each year, it is certainly not the biggest anime convention in Europe or even Germany but AnimagiC has always been able to impress with its fancy locations and big Japanese guests. The current venue offers space for about 9k participants (not counting the surrounding area), the main concert hall can accommodate around 2,4k people and the second largest hall can accommodate around 1,4k people. No matter how you look at it, it’s going to be a tight squeeze during particularly busy hours. The 3-day-ticket is quite reasonably priced at €118 and is probably the best option for everyone who is coming from a bit further away. Typically, big guest acts have a rather packed schedule for at least two if not all three days of the convention so if you have the means, it pays off to attend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. One thing I would like to add here is that the convention is almost 100% geared towards a German speaking audience so if you don’t know any German, it might be a little tricky to navigate your way around the whole thing.

First come, first served

The tickets for AnimagiC pretty much cover every activity on the schedule which is both a blessing and a curse. When everything is included you avoid a lot of extra costs but obviously, it’s all on a first come, first served basis so there is always a chance that a specific part of the program will be over-crowded to a point where certain people won't be able to participate. There's no way to buy yourself into any of these activities via fast-passes or VIP tickets so it really is a matter of prioritising where you wanna be and getting there as early as possible. This can be quite tricky when multiple interesting activities happen simultaneously or back to back. As of right now, the announcement of YK's guest appearance has had the biggest response on the official AnimagiC Twitter account so she will probably be the most popular act there, attracting huge crowds. Many hardcore and even casual fans might camp-out at a certain location for the entire day to secure front-row-seats or good spots in a queue so you have to take that into account when you are planning your own schedule. I personally wouldn’t recommend such behaviour because it’s incredibly rude and you risk missing out on a lot of other cool stuff but of course many people would disagree with me. As far as the concerts are concerned, I would wager it is possible to get a seat if you get there about 2-3 hours in advance but there’s no way to know for sure. My best guess is that the majority of convention visitors will most likely be distracted by other convention activities and only start heading to the concert halls once a big event is about to start. As long as you can outrun those crowds, you might be fine. 

Possible program

The organisers of AnimagiC won’t be releasing the full program until July so it’s difficult to predict what awaits us. However, based on past events, a few things are very likely to happen. AnimagiC typically schedules a variety of fun activities for their honorary music guests which definitely justify the convention ticket prices. Among those activities you can expect at least two types of live performances on separate evenings (one live might be a joined act with other artists). As one of the bigger names on the line-up, YK and FJ will surely get to perform at prime time in the main hall with very few simultaneous events taking place to ensure that everyone will get a chance to attend. There will probably be one bigger (more general) panel with several Japanese guest acts and another one that’s dedicated to YK and FJ (most likely including interactive stuff such as a Q&A or game corner). One thing that’s also almost always guaranteed at AnimagiC is the chance to get your hands on a handwritten autograph from all the guests. Keep in mind though that there are many different ways in which that can happen. In order to participate in signing sessions, you might have to take part in some sort of lottery and in many cases you will be required to purchase official releases/merchandise. Big guests might not even show up to a proper signing session due to certain label/management restrictions, they will simply write the autographs in advance and then later during the event, staff members will hand them over (this happened with Aimer last year).  

Overall, I can recommend visiting this convention to everyone who 

is a big anime/manga fan 

is located in Europe 

won’t travel to Japan any time soon

wants a chance to see YK and the FJ girls up-close

Back to School: Interview with Meredith Towne, Young Writers Program Educator

NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers Program helps over 85,000 kids, teens, teachers, and families set creative goals and tell stories they care about. We asked some of our amazing YWP educators to share how they take on the NaNoWriMo challenge in their classroom. Today’s advice comes from Meredith Towne, a high school English teacher in New York City!

Q: What grade/ age level do you work with? What type of NaNoWriMo group is it (whole class, club, homeschool, elective, etc.)?

A: 12th. Whole class (ELA 12, general education and ICT)

Q: How long have you been doing NaNoWriMo with your students?

A: 7 years

Q: How do you structure the entire project (for example, do you start prepping in October and write in November, do you have kids work on it all year, etc.)?

A: We do 2 weeks of prep in October, write in November, revise 10 pages in December (2500-3k words). This year we had workbooks for all our students which was a huge help.

Q: What does a normal NaNoWriMo day look like for your students?

A: In November students come in and write. Teachers do 1:1 check-ins. With holidays sometimes students only get 13 class days (60 min each) so every moment is precious.

Q: How do you set and manage word-count goals?

A: We conference and since Covid have let students choose their goals and have pushed less. Usually we challenge 10k, 20k or 30k+ goals.

Q: How do you manage grading? Do you grade?

A: We do 4 progress checks where students are to meet the word count goal for that day. This is a participation grade. The revision is then graded as a summative assessment for all of our core competencies. I also love the YWP portal. It has become easy to track student progress and coordinate with co-teachers.

Q: How do you approach revision/ publishing (if at all)?

A: 10 pages, a section of choice. Bookcreator.com is an amazing tool for creating a cover and cool layout. We do a public share as well.

Q: Any NaNoWriMo tips or tricks to share with other educators? Hard-won lessons? Ah-ha moments?

A: Get the workbooks. Don't grade down for not meeting goal. Progress not perfection. In our classes students have to write at least 1500 words to be eligible to revise. If they have not met goals they move to an alternative assessment we have designed that aligns with our competency skills.

Q: Have you ever run into resistance from your administration about doing NaNoWriMo, and if so, how did you manage it? What do you say to people who don’t see the point of having students write novels?

A: No, never an issue. It has become one of the things lower classmen are warned about in Ms. Towne's class! 😀 I love this legacy.

Q: What are the most meaningful things you or your students take away from the project? What's your best NaNoWriMo memory?

A: One of the students who did NaNo in 2017 is starting a MFA in creative writing. This is the same kid who told me his senior year he didn't want to go to college. I credit NaNo!

Hi Betts! I’m sorry that your residency didn’t turn out like you were expecting. What happened that made you want to leave early?

i wrote a process log that ended up being like 30k, so if i can cut it down to a reasonable length for an upcoming newsletter, that'll give more detail, but the gist of it is that the whole thing was just a perfect storm of my ptsd triggers. very similar to (but less intense than) when i left the phd program. i had a mini breakdown a few days ago and am mostly recovered from it, but i didn't want to take any chances in case it was the beginning of something worse.

Today i tried to make a plan to lose 10 kg in 5 weeks, for me, that meaning 6th of december.

This plan includes:

1) intermediate fasting

2) workouts

3) diet



1. intermediate fasting!

i think it’s way better to make your body accommodated to the lifestyle you want, so that you wont go back so easily to what you used to do.

that’s why i made this little program to be able to fast better!

2. workouts

personally i think one hour of working out is more than enough, daisy’s workouts always worked amazing for me so maybe you can try them! <3

i will try to workout 5 times a week with this workout plan and for the whole week i will be making 30k steps, since i am living in a small city with a very busy school schedule, i am not able to make 10k a day, but i will try to make at least 5k per day! <3

3. diet

i am not the type of gal that likes counting calories, i truly think that’s a stress for most of us and i am not going to put that burden on me, stress rises your cortisol levels and that’s one of the reasons why you might not lose weight.

for breakfast i will always have the same thing, oatmeal. (i will post my recipe in the morning with calories included) and will post the rest of the meals i’m having here, maybe with calories maybe not.

the goal is to eat as healthy and little as possible, not to make my hair fall out.

I have once again come to the realization that a lot of the reason rich folks, but particularly young rich folks don’t empathize with the poor is bc they literally can’t fathom living how we do.

For reference, I got my T5 recently (Canadian tax document for social benefits, my disability income n whatnot) and it listed my total income for the year of 2023 as 8k and change

That’s 8k Canadian btw, so less than $6000 usd.

The poverty line is at roughly 30k CAD for those interested, and I make considerably more than most disabled people in my province bc I’m considered permanently unemployable and have severe diet restrictions (I’m allergic to fucking everything)

I mentioned that to one of my irl friends who is well off (not even rich, but they have rich parents) and they quite literally could not understand how I was able to function. They make roughly 2k a month, and live rent free at their dads place (their dad is currently living in a different province too so they live completely alone)

I started explaining how me n my roommates do bills (I foot utilities, wifi, and insurance, my roommates split everything else) and they stopped me more than once to question how we managed to do things like feed 3 adults on $170 a month (food bank, the church I go to when the religious guilt gets bad always gives me food on my way out. Only shopping sales)

They couldn’t wrap their head around it, this person spends almost 400 a month on themself for food, not including occasionally eating out. They told me, word for word

“I kinda expect most people who make that little to be dead or dying.”

Ig it’s telling that the only way I could persist on so little cash to them is literally being dead? Idk man. This whole thing is something I’m passively aware of cause like, I grew up the level of poor where I was the kid they talk about in ads for breakfast programs where school breakfast is usually their only meal. I processed recently that I didn’t have “real” toys (I had a hand me down ds and a small collection of <$5 bargain bin games, and nothing else until I was 14) and that’s why my mom always wanted me to go outside and play with sticks and dirt, and wouldn’t let me bring my friends over. Bc there was fuck all to do and most parents don’t appreciate their kids being covered in mud. (My mother managed to be completely unaware that we were not the only ones living in abject poverty)

And like- I say that to people (the toys thing, living relatively comfortably on so little) and they go bug eyed like it’s not insanely common, almost everyone I knew as a kid was poor too.

A part of me wonders how much of the shock comes from me being white passing, bc when I mention the neighborhood I grew up in, and the one I currently live in, the vast majority have the same general response (“oh shit- is it true that people get shot there all the time?” No. They’ve both just a got a lot of bipoc, particularly black and native folks, and the rich white assholes that wanted to gentrify it started spreading that racist garbage bc they failed to force the people living there out, which obviously means it’s actually uninhabitable /sarc) and it’s not surprising that all my friends and neighbours are poor. But me? Someone you could mistake as very white until I stand next to my mom and grandparents? It’s mind boggling to them that I was just as poor.

I had a point to make when I started writing this but now I’m just pissed, and I want to go visit my grandma, cause it’s been a while and she still lives over where I grew up, I’m pretty sure this one really good family run donair place was able to reopen too (had to close for a while bc the owner was really old, ended up retiring and passed the place onto his kids iirc) so I might see if I can afford one when I get paid.

6. Idea that you always wanted to write but could never make work?

I. Look. I've been toying with the puppet-awake AU for Fallen Hero for Literally Years and I cannot figure out how to write canon divergence without either doing a Boring Retread of Canon Content with this One Neat Change! or having weird gaps in the narrative for Canon Content to sit in. It's a structural issue. It makes my head hurt if im thinking abt it too hard. I want to make it work but my brain Will Not Cooperate. Bleh. I'll just hold this fucking. Almost 30k of draft nonsense forever I guess.

11. If I’m showing off just one of your pieces to someone, which one should it be?

I don't know :< Depends on what they're looking for, I guess. If they want something that's actually like, more specifically shippy, maybe a little bit clearer, a little bit hard to find. Sidestep era (pre?)chargestep, local idiots still not talking about the thing they're talking around. But more generally, I Adore couldn't hide it from me because I LOVE anathema with my whole heart and I am pointing at them excitedly every time they show up.

16. 3 favorite comments ever received on fanfic.

Looking through my old comments and kicking my feet!! It bears repeating that I am always very excited about ALL comments I receive, but here's a few, in no specific order

-keltena left a comment on played around and around i went talking abt arsinoe and chen playing 5-d chess with each other and I was the one doing chinhands about it :) I was unreasonably excited about having a liveblog-esque comment on one of my fics.

-cigs and i were doing a back-and-forth in each other's comment sections for a while and that brought me a lot of joy but he left a comment on a little bit clearer, a little bit hard to find where he called out arsinoe's tendency to "drop that shit on ortega's head like a cartoon anvil" which is both incredibly accurate and has been making me laugh for Months.

-annnd it wasn't on ao3 but rab-bitly left me a note on the discord about all distance and programming and the perspective/pronoun fuckery in that one that made me very happy because I was hoping it worked for other people and wasn't too confusing, lol.

1. favorite fic you wrote this year

This is a tough choice but I think my fave from this year is nothing to hide! It's an OMB AU where Garak got downloaded into the program as a holo character too... as a femme fatale character who is Sisko's character's love interest, hehehe. >:3 I also really feel like I outdid myself with the STRUCTURE of the fic - it cuts back and forth between the new version of OMB events and Julian's conversation with Garak later about those events in a really snappy way I think.

4. total number of words you wrote this year

19,236 words posted to ao3 this year! That's about 20-30k less than last year (not as easy to pull the number from my ao3 stats page bc I had two long multichapters that I started before 2022 but finished in 2022 and the words for the whole fic all get counted toward whenever the fic was most recently updated), but I'm trying my damnedest to not let that notable decrease get me too down hahaha. Like, I keep reminding myself that I've def written some absolute bangers this year, so who cares if they were all short?

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write

Easily, these sordid kinds of things. Genuinely did not expect to ever write Kira/Winn smut lmaoooo. Really glad I did though! I had so much fun exploring the age-old question of "what if we used each other as weapons in a power struggle... and we were both girls? 😳"

that post about legislation that could prohibit corporations from buying up single family homes has a lot of ppl being defeatist in the notes but there's a program here in youngstown that sort of already does this, we have a ton of abandoned homes all over the city that have been empty since basically the steel collapse but rather then let them be demolished there's a housing campaign that buys and completely restores them then only sells them to people who are committed to living in the home & living here in the city and being part of the community. you cannot buy those homes if u have zero intention of yk actually being here so it prevents shit like that from happening & prevents those homes from being turned into bullshit air b&bs or rentals that cost an arm and a leg. the homes are also always listed between 30k & 100k which sounds like a ton but that's actually fairly cheap for a whole ass house in the current market, and usually those homes are between two-four bedroom multiple bathroom houses they're not like little closets.

It is possible to do that and provide (somewhat- I say that bc tbh the homes should be listed even cheaper but we'll hopefully get there) reasonable housing to ppl who will actually love and live in that home and be connected to their communities.

#idk that program gives me a lot of hope that we're taking steps to getting ppl here who need housing the help they need #its not perfect ofc like i said those homes should be dirt cheap or completely free to ppl who need them #but its a start #and its not impossible to start that in places beyond here

I’m trying so hard to love my mother but god she makes this life so difficult- money has been right my entire life and I had to go to a college I hated because they gave me a ton of academic scholarships and I could only attend for one year so I studied my ass off and went to bed every night at 3 am doing homework and woke up every morning at 6:30 am and had an on campus job three days a week to scrap together some money, and my mom constantly reminded me that we were too poor to go on vacation or buy nice things or pay for one of the really nice colleges I wanted to go to (god I wanted to go to smith)… and now she has money and she spent 30k on a barn this year and 2500 on a greenhouse and she bought multiple fruit trees for the orchard, and my birthday is next week and we haven’t celebrated my birthday since I was 14 (when I turned 16 my friends threw a surprise party for me because I was expecting nothing at all) and I’m turning 21 this year and my mom not concert tickets to Bruce Springsteen (I hate him but she loves him so I was happy to go with her and her fiancé on the night before my birthday) and that’s really all we had been planning, but it was something- and now the tickets fell through so my mom just paid 1000 for two tickets to the same night… for her and her fiancé. Not me. I know it was never about me but she would never spend that money on me- I grew up so poor and staying behind on so many field trips or scrapping the money together myself from summer jobs and photography comissions and now she’s happy and I’m happy for her and everything is good and I’m glad, but god I can’t stop resenting her. Thirty thousand dollars on a barn. That would’ve been the cost of smith . You could’ve paid for me to go to a rebound four year college with a museum and a botanical garden and an anthropology and art history program but you dug your heels in and said we can’t afford it so I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and went to a horrible state school on full tuition waiver for one year and got my BA and had a 3.96 gpa too- and it’s fine. She isn’t obligated to pay for me, I know I sound so entitled because she doesn’t owe me anything at all and I’m successful and I have a job as a teacher in a big city and I make three times as much as my roomates and I don’t need her- but fuck I turn 21 next week and I know that she doesn’t have anything planned. Certainly nothing that costs $1000. I understood no birthday when I was 18 and we had nothing, but you CAN afford to drop that money on Bruce Springsteen tickets now…and I’m still comparing prices on jelly and eating rice and stolen lossed produce from Whole Foods and supergluing my four year old boots back together and wearing the winter coat I got in seventh grade. I feel strange and I don’t know how to articulate it. I hate my birthday. I hate that I’m turning twenty one. I hate that my students will probably make me hand drawn crayons cards on lined paper and they will be the people who put the most effort into anything for me- and I will love them so much, but I want my mom to just fucking try, yk?
