Dangit. I accidentally deleted the ask for this prompt. Whoops. Well, it was something along the lines of "Genderbend broppy, where Branch lost a limb, with hurt/comfort & fluff" Thanks for the prompt, Anon! I will just start off by saying that I don't personally headcanon the trolls as putting much stock in genders in general, since either gender can have eggs, and the only physical differences are eyelashes and choice of clothing. So, I will be swapping the pronouns in this ficlet for you, but I don't personally think that much else would change in regards to Poppy and Branch. I hope you enjoy! TW: Description of injury, blood
Poppy hadn't seen Branch in at last three weeks. Ever since she'd come back from her last scouting mission into the woods. Or, at least, Poppy hoped that Branch had come back. He'd seen the grey troll off, much to Branch's chagrin, but hadn't heard anything about her return. She was only supposed to be gone for a week, tops.
And so, Poppy found himself fidgeting nervously while standing over Branch's 'Go Away' mat. They weren't what Poppy would consider the best of friends, but he still cared about Branch, even if all of his other friends though he was wasting his time.
"Branch?" he called, kneeling to knock on the mat, "I…I really hope you're down there? I know you were supposed to be back by now, so if you're not, and you're still out in the woods I'm going to feel really dumb about talking to a hole in the ground. But if you are, I would really appreciate it if you would let me in, because I've been worried about you."
Poppy waited a few minutes. His hope began to waver that Branch was back, and had already begun to formulate a search party plan, when the mat slid to the side, revealing the entrance to the bunker.
"Oh, thank glitter," Poppy muttered to himself, before jumping into the hole. He glanced around the entrance, fully expecting an irritated Branch to greet him, but only found a handful of traps and the lever to the elevator. "Branch?" he called again, frowning when he didn't get an answer. "Well, this is only mildly creepy," he grumbled, but pulled the lever to lower himself into the bunker proper.
Once at the bottom, he stepped off the platform and looked around, once again expecting an exasperated Branch to be waiting. But there was no one. "Okay, this is seriously starting to give me the heebie-jeebies, Branch," Poppy called out, snagging a twig from one of Branch's shelves and brandishing it over his shoulder. "What's going on? Where are you?"
"You can put down the stick," Branch's voice came from the hallway, the soft sound of footsteps following, "I'm right here." She appeared, looking tired and irritated, but alive.
"You're alive!" Poppy cheered, absently tossing the twig behind himself as he rushed forward, only jerking himself to a stop at the way Branch flinched away from him.
"Did you think I died in the woods or something?" Branch scoffed, half turned away from Poppy, "You should know me better than that."
"I mean…I was worried. I'm allowed to worry about my friends," Poppy said with a light frown, folding his arms over his chest. "Why didn't you come tell me you were back?"
"I'm not obligated to tell you all about my comings and goings," Branch ground out, though there was little venom behind it.
"Yeah, well, a heads up would've been nice. What if you'd been hurt?! You know I'd want to know, and help!" Poppy insisted, blinking in surprise at the sudden look of shame that appeared on Branch's face. "…Branch?"
"Look, I-" she began, before scowling darkly and turning fully to face Poppy. The pink troll gaped as Branch raised her arms to show that half of her left arm was missing and wrapped from the elbow up in bandages. "I got hurt, but I took care of it," she said with a defiant glower.
"What happened?!" Poppy gasped, reaching out, but quickly pulling back as Branch dropped her arms and turned herself away again.
"I got too cocky when dealing with a growl beast. A second one snuck up on me. I managed to get away and stop the bleeding. Don't worry, I made sure I didn't leave a trail leading back to the village," she said with a shrug, rubbing absently at her left shoulder.
"I don't care about you leading them back here!" Poppy snapped, causing Branch to flinch and turn a startled look at him, "I care about you. You should have come to find me! What if it had gotten infected?"
"You know I have just as much, if not more medical knowledge than Doctor Moonbloom. And I have plenty of medical supplies down here. I don't need help."
"That isn't the point, Branch!" Poppy groaned, rubbing his hands over his face, "The point is that you know you have someone who cares about you! Someone who can check on you, just in case something does happen to you, and you can't get to the village. I just want to help, Branch. Please."
Branch stared at Poppy warily for a long moment, before letting out a slow sigh. "I guess you have a point," she muttered, her shoulders dropping. "I…I could use a hand with changing the bandage. If that's not going to be too much for you?"
Poppy perked up, clapping his hands together. "Sure, I can do that!"
Branch hummed disbelievingly, before gesturing for Poppy to follow her back down the hallway she'd appeared from. The passed at least half a dozen doors, before Branch lead him into a room that somewhat resembled one of Doctor Moonbloom's patient rooms. The walls were lined with shelves full of jars labelled as tinctures and salves, along with all sorts of medical paraphernalia. A single bed sat in the middle of the room with a small table next to it, a few rolls of bandages, a gauze pad, a bowl with water with a rag, and a jar of salve already set out on it.
"It's surprisingly difficult to wrap bandages with only one hand," Branch admitted quietly, moving to sit on the bed.
"I would imagine," Poppy said with a light laugh, standing before Branch and watching as she carefully unwrapped the bandages on her arm, trying to commit the pattern to memory so he could do it in reverse.
Once Branch was down to a thick gauze pad and a thin bandage wrapped around where her elbow should be, she glanced up at Poppy with a worried frown. "This is…well, it's gross, to put it bluntly. Have you ever seen a major injury before?"
Poppy shook his head slightly, chewing on his lip a little. "No? But, I still want to help. I can do this."
Branch sighed, shaking her head as she peeled the final bandage and gauze pad away, revealing the stump where the rest of her arm should be attached. The growl beast had apparently bit down just above her elbow, as the joint was gone and a bit of jagged bone was still visible. Poppy felt his gag reflex try and force his stomach contents up his throat as he watched thick, semi-congealed blue blood begin to drip from the Branch's arm. Scarring had already begin to form around the edges of the wound, but it was obvious it would take a long time to heal and close properly. Branch snorted as Poppy gagged.
"I warned you," she scoffed, reaching for the table and the rag in the water bowl.
"No, no!" Poppy insisted, waving his hands through the air and snatching the rag before Branch could reach it, "I said I would help, and I will!" He bit his tongue as his throat convulsed, going so far as to hold his breath as he gently began to clean the old blood from around Branch's wound.
"You look like you're going to hurl," Branch commented idly as Poppy rinsed the rag and went back to cleaning.
"Shut up," Poppy ground out, swallowing thickly as he finished up. He glanced up in mild surprise as the short giggle that Branch let out.
"What?" Branch's smile disappeared just as quickly as it had appeared.
"Nothing. I just don't think I've ever heard you giggle before," Poppy said with a shrug, setting aside the rag once he was finished cleaning the blood away. He glanced at Branch, who gestured towards the jar of salve.
"Don't have much occasion to," Branch stated bluntly, taking the jar from Poppy once he had it open.
"You should. It's nice."
Poppy grinned at the dark flush that spread over Branch's cheeks, even as she scowled and scooped a generous amount of salve out of the jar and applied it to her arm. He took the jar back once Branch was done with it and snagged the gauze pad, handing it over so Branch could hold it in place while Poppy wrapped the bandages.
"There," Poppy hummed once he'd pinned the bandages in place, "All clean."
"Thanks."
"Anytime, Branch. I mean it."

Okay, so you like Velvet and Veneer? Well, if you get the chance, I want you to speak! TELL ME EVERYTHING!! I want you to give me headcannons please, as many as you can think of :)
pls and thx!!
AHHH! OK so I've never done anything like this but I put as many as I could think of. If I come up with anything else, I'll edit this and add it (or just make a new post)
(lots of words ahead 💀)
General headcanons :
- They one hundred percent had the Barbie mugshot but with Velvet's deadly stare instead
- and Veneer made sure he looked good; they are taking a picture after all
- I think Velvet might be a little taller than Veneer but they're both taller than average
- never leaves the house without heels or platforms or both
- Veneer has must-be-wearing-a-crop-top syndrome. Can't be cured 😔
- I'm sorry but they totally sang Circus by Britney Spears. That song is so V&V coded and has female and male vocals too 😩
- The sass is too hard to contain for this duo. Once a sly thought appears in their mind, they have to voice it (but I'm not complaining. They're iconic)
- Veneer can be a little blunt or rude sometimes. I know ppl like to imagine him as just the caring and silly sibling but he did everything Velvet did. He just had morals that started to kick in once the threat of being a killer was thrown at him.
(I mean did you see him nearly just toss Floyd down the toilet 💀)
- of course, I still think he is silly and kind and chooses to do so for a fair portion of the time but he's no stranger to being ignorant to most of his wrongdoings as well
- and I think they both have some trauma from practically killing Floyd. GET THEM THERAPYYY
- I think Velvet would like decorating and making things ✨Aesthetic✨
- like a little journal that she'd write her feelings in and then fill with beautiful stickers and photos (totally not a burn book....)
- I think Poppy would love love looove to see Velvet's journal filled with beautiful stationary. She'd probably get her into scrapbooking and they'd make the cutest little displays or books just brimming with photos, cutouts, diagrams, and more.
-Poppy and Viva can be a little overwhelming for Velvet at first but they'd totally become great gal pals and just chat all day.
- and at first, Bergen features might be a little....alarming to Velvet but she'd learn to love Bridget just like Poppy does
-also both are invited to the broppy wedding... 👀
- she also of course become friends with the BroZone brothers but I get more into that below ⬇️
"Story" headcanons :
- So for Velvet, I think in the movie she was so blinded by her need for fame and luxury that she didn't notice how her family (Veneer) helped her and stuck around through all the things she said and did. This would separate her from being just a complete villain because I do believe that she can reform herself into something better
- In Jail, I think Velvet would really hate it and everyone around her. She probably wouldn't want to talk to Veneer at all at first but being alone might give her time to reflect on herself
- over a little time, I think she'd realize how Veneer was always there for her and understood her ways. She'd definitely come back around and they'd be back to being as close as they were before, maybe even more
-It would take some time for both Velvet and Veneer to adjust.
- Veneer would dislike jail very much. He's so used to his life of luxury that I'm sure he'd be surprised by how little you get behind bars
- and with Velvet wanting to be alone, he would probably feel more alone than ever
- but he knows he did the right thing and even though prison sucks, he'd get through it
- Veneer would probably try to make friends with some of the people there but it is prison soo.... I'm not sure how well that would go.
- if anyone came to visit him, he'd be so happy cuz jail is sooo boring and he'd finally get to yap away to somebody who knows him.
- you just know they'd be styling that prison jumpsuit the best the can
- can you sneak heels into jail??
- Velvet and Veneer are kinda "eye candy" for the criminals in jail and they might get targeted by those who are jealous or looking for a fight
-Velvet's not the only one with an attitude problem, Veneer can very well relay a comment or two that can easily get them into some trouble. He'll have to work on that along with his sister, learn how to correctly treat the people around them
 - After they become besties again, they'd have each other's backs like never before. I think Velvet really really does care about Veneer and if anything ever happened to him, she'd be devastated. This time, she'd really like to treat him how he deserves and nurture that sibling bond.
- and you know once anyone throws hands with one sibling, the other comes swinging
- 💥KNOCKOUT💥
- not the best thing to do if you want to get out of jail fast but hey, nobody messes with twins and gets away with it
- Due to other more serious situations being forgiven in the past, I think Velvet & Veneer wouldn't be in prison for too long. I can easily see BroZone forgiving them and offering to help the twins with whatever they'd need
- Veneer would definitely become great friends with Floyd and even Bruce. After all, he knows what it's like to be sensitive and a heartthrob 😌
- and I can see Velvet relating to Branch and J. D. She's probably a control freak (or was) and always wants everything to be perfect, just like John Dory. That's something they'd both have to work on. And I think Velvet and Branch can relate to one another's sassy sarcastic comments and occasional snide remarks.
- I can also see them joining Clay's sad book club. I need to see a scene of Veneer just balling his eyes out after finishing a book while all the others just pat him on the back 😆
- @horrorartist23 did a couple of drawings of Velvet & Veneer(or maybe just Ven idk) working at Bruce's Beachside Bar and I LOVE THAT IDEA SO MUCH.
- ESPECIALLY since Bruce said his family was a total Veneer household. I think it would be so cute for not only his kids getting the chance to meet Vel&Ven but also for Vel&Ven to get a little bit of real work experience.
- it would be so good for them to work at a place like that to learn about themselves and a work environment.
- plus the whole island is gorgeous and pretty luxury, which would fit into they're ideal environment. AND everything is Rageon sized so they don't have to worry about being too big!!
- They'd literally be working hard and making it look easy 💀
- I think it's perfect and I love it
-after jail and therapy, I think Velvet would really love the life she has. She'd of course still make mistakes sometimes and her sass will never leave. That's just who she is and none of us would want to change that . But she'd have a way healthier mind and so would the people around her.
- I think both of them might want to actually learn how to sing and dance like real performers
- Velvet hates making mistakes or not being perfect at a skill immediately. I know how that is and it's really difficult to get past but with more encouragement from Veneer and even the Brozone brothers, she'd become the star she always knew she was.
- And Veneer would take initiative for himself and practice performing like a real idol. I feel Veneer would also struggle with wanting perfection immediately but I think he'd really fall in love with dancing and this would help him keep up the determination. And he'd be really good at it too after some practice
- Knowing how good they can be if they put in the work would be a huge motivator too. Cuz they only stole Floyd's talent, not his voice. And because of this Velvet knows that she sounds good when she's at her peak in skill. They know that they can be amazing, they just have to work for it this time
-Trying to become famous again for the right things would definitely be hard. They're reputation is awful
- BUT, I think Mount Rageous would give them a chance to prove themselves. Considering how all Rageons are obsessed with media, fame, and celebrities, I think they couldn't resist the bait of former popstars Velvet & Veneer coming back to the stage, this time with their own talent that they've truly worked hard to perfect.
- And they'd deserve it for how much work they put into reforming their lives.
- Plus, nobody can take away their love for the stage and performing. They're too iconic to forget 💅
- and you know I'd be keepin' my eye out for that V&V/BroZone collab 🌟
- First live performance with BroZone, Velvet and Veneer are getting their Perfect Family Harmony. And you can bet it will be the most amazing thing to ever grace the planet
- I'd die 💀
That's all that I can think of right now 🤔 I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts on these two. I really really love them and getting to write this down was really fun. If you have any ideas you'd like to expand upon or thoughts you'd like to share, let me knooww! And of course, Thank you sweetgirl15161819 for sending this ask!! 💖 💖

Broppy(may be a spoiler if you haven't watched Trolls so please skip)
Hello!
This post is about Trolls and my top pairing Branch and Poppy. I want to point out this is how I feel about the couple and I have nothing against those who feel they should have never gotten together.
First and foremost, Broppy began as a friendship even though it was quite clear that Branch had romantic feelings for Poppy in the first movie of DreamWorks Trolls. While the Trolls Carton series continued the friendship between Poppy and Branch, the movies made it quite clear that there would be a potential relationship between the two trolls.
Second, many may believe their friendship should have stayed that way, but it was quite obvious it wasn't even though Trolls was a family-friendly movie and series. I actually believe that they kept the friendship between Branch and Poppy even after they had them start dating after Trolls World Tour. In my mindset, they are still friends just with more romantic feelings for one another which makes them a better romantic couple than most.
Lastly, Broppy is Broppy. Broppy is a friendship. Broppy is a romantic relationship.
The End

It’s jus a opinion about the series 🦑
I'll be very honest, I don't really like the Trolls franchise series because I think the narrative forces yet another personality that Poppy and Branch don't have during the films, in almost every episode we see a more egocentric version of Branch that even though he is correct in many opinions, he is always branded as paranoid and too negative in his actions, almost like a version of the beginning of the film but more forced, Poppy is almost always treated as a perfect image that is never wrong and is always teaching Branch moral lessons, however throughout the films this is interpreted in a completely wrong way, as Branch represents a more realistic perspective on life who is always trying to keep up with Poppy's positive outlook, during In both films Poppy makes a lot more mistakes than Branch and learns from it, for her life is full of good things but as the narrative goes on she becomes more and more human along with Branch who learns that there needs to be balance between being positive with life and being realistic with it, they are inverse people who learn from their opposites, and another thing I hate about the series is that they add almost nothing about Broppy's relationship, during all the episodes despite there are easter eggs that give the idea that they have become a couple, they spend the entire story being addressed only as best friends, Branch and Poppy confessed at the end of World Tour and are confirmed as lovers in the Christmas special Holiday in Harmony, However, throughout the TrollsTopia series, they remain best friends, despite there being controversy over whether the series are canonical or not, it's something that should be worked on, I really wanted a series after Band Together to explore the brothers' relationship, but I I have a hard time when it comes to Dreamworks series (except the How To Train Your Dragon series, they are perfect).
Even though I liked how they changed Branch's personality a little in the Trollstopia series, I miss the protagonism he had since the series had to make more room for new characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This came to light when I was reviewing an episode where Branch makes a bet to do several fun activities in one day to become a "better Troll" and it all starts because he doesn't want to do a dramatic poetry performance and this is interpreted as something what a great strength of his abilities, I understand the difficult part of expressing himself in front of a lot of people but the part where he is completely oblivious to poetry contradicts the first film where he literally creates romantic poetry quickly for Bridget just based on the qualities of Poppy, even though he was the victim of a petty bet the entire episode, he's the one who has to apologize at the end just because Poppy was the one who was right, the only detail I like about this episode is the fact that Branch really put in the work to create a list of only fun things and it is revealed at the end that Poppy also has a list where Branch's happiness is one of the main goals.

First Proposal (a Trolls fanfic)
Summary: With love confessions out of the way and a strong friendship, Branch decides to propose an idea to Poppy
A/N: Still waiting for trailer 2, but in the meantime have a sorta Christmas in July Broppy fic, taking place post Holiday in Harmony 😜
__________________________________________
A balloon ride over the Troll Kingdom was a pleasant experience. But there were certain things that made that said experience an even better one. A ride at night during the holidays, for one, enhanced the atmosphere, as the rider would be able to see all the unique, beautiful lights and displays of each musical tribe. Another thing that added a touch of extra excitement was the ability to ride with Queen Poppy, the optimistic pink Pop Troll who's ever-jovial attitude allowed her to be a friend to many.
And, to some, more than a friend.
But that was only a special advantage that one particular Troll had the privilege of having. And that Troll happened to be having the full pleasant experience. That Troll, being Branch.
It went without saying that Branch held a special place within the pink Pop queen’s heart. Those who knew them from Pop Village (namely, Poppy’s closest friends referred to as the Snack Pack) had seen the pair since the start of their friendship and how it had blossomed. Those who had come to know them more recently, such as members from the Troll Kingdom, saw how the pair interacted and knew without much doubt how much of a close bond they shared. Why, even Queen Barb of the Hard Rockers - who very well knew Branch's name - simply liked to refer to him as 'Poppy's boyfriend' when speaking with others, despite the two not officially being an item.
Well, not yet at least. But that was something that the teal Troll was intent on resolving soon. And by soon, he meant…
“A-hem.”
Branch cleared his throat, attempting to be inconspicuous but also wanting to make sure that he got the attention of his companion. He felt a moment like this, staring out at the beauty of the lands below should perhaps not be interrupted. However, Branch did not see a better moment to ensure that they were alone, so that he could express a certain thought that had been on his mind for quite some time.
Poppy immediately turned to him, a content expression on her face. "Yeah?"
Branch didn't say anything right away. Instead, he took a few fleeting seconds to behold her beauty, far more radiant than anything they'd seen on the balloon ride thus far. He loved the perfect pink hues of her skin and hair, the way her stunning fuchsia eyes sparkled with life, and the way her sweet, pink lips upturned when she smiled softly at him. The same pink lips from which the physical memory still lingered of when she'd pressed them lovingly against his cheek in a quick but incredible peck. Branch had to resist bringing a hand up to his cheek to rub that spot in fondness, and prevented himself from the goofy, giddy laughter that wanted to bubble up again. Boy, that had felt good! He blinked, clearing his head, pressing on with confidence and poise. “I, umm… have something I want to tell you.”
The pink Pop Queen nodded, her eyebrows drawn together slightly in worry. “What is it? Is everything okay?”
Branch nodded, unable to keep the smile off his face. "There's actually, uh, a second part to your gift from today..."
Poppy blushed. “Braaanch,” she groaned playfully, though she couldn't hide the pleased glow from her cheeks, "you shouldn't have. Here I am, having gotten you nothing, and here you are with not one but two gifts for me!" She sighed. “Not the best impression on the Gift Master, huh?”
Branch chuckled, reaching over to take her hand in his and speaking softly. “Poppy… I know you’ve got a lot on your mind, being the queen and all, but you remember what we said. Gifts might be a nice part of the holidays, but the best gift is just being here… with each other .”
Poppy gratefully squeezed Branch's hand. She knew that, of course. But the queen still wished that there was something she could do to make up for the huge gift box with nothing inside. Luckily, Branch presented that opportunity in that next second.
"But I guess, if you still feel like you want to make it up to me - which, is not necessary, by the way - you, um, could agree with what I'm about to ask you. Which, you know, you're not obliged to agree, it's totally okay if you don't because it's your decision and as a friend I respect whatever your decisions might be -”
“Branch," Poppy cut into his rambling with a laugh. He was so cute when he got flustered. "Just ask me. What is it?"
"Well..." He took a deep breath, gathering his courage. His fingers curled a little tighter around Poppy's hand. “Poppy… we’ve been friends for a while now.”
“Correction: really good friends,” Poppy said, with a grin. “Best friends.”
Branch nodded, blushing slightly. “Right. Best friends. And… well. We’re pretty close.”
“Yep!” Poppy agreed, giggling. They had a special connection, and every time they hugged or high-fived they could feel it.
"And... you know that I, um, l-love you," he continued, starting to get a little nervous.
"I love you, too, Branch," Poppy reassured him, feeling that wonderful warm glow she always got whenever she said it out loud. It was such an honest thing to say, because it was the truth.
"And..." Branch continued, "I was wondering if we could take our friendship a bit further. Make it not exactly a friendship, per say, but more of a... a relationship?"
The pink Pop Queen gasped, realizing where this was headed.
Branch 's face further darkened with a blush when he spoke again. "Poppy... would you be my girlfriend?"
Poppy felt her heart leap at the words. A swarm of butterflies felt as though they'd taken flight inside her stomach, leaving nothing but joy and excitement in their wake. She could hardly say how happy she suddenly felt. She really did love Branch so much, and he made her feel so special. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she was dying for things to be more official between them. Why, she had even considered proposing the idea to him!
“Look, I… I know that things were not so great between us before the whole Bergen-Town rescue thing, and I know that you’ll probably never forgive me for leaving you to get captured by Barb when she was doing her World Tour. And like I said before, you don’t have to feel obliged to agree, I mean, I’ll be fine with whatever you decide because it’s what you want, and I’ll be happy with whatever makes you happy so - “
“ Shh ,” Poppy hushed him, placing her index finger on Branch’s mouth. She couldn't help giggle at the startled expression on his face. She wished she could snap a picture of how flustered he got again. "Branch, I've already forgiven you like a thousand times over for that stuff - no, more like an infinity -times over! You don't have to keep apologizing... unless, you don't think I'm a merciful queen..."
Branch's eyes bulged. "What?! No, NO! Poppy, of course you're a great queen, I would never - "
"Branch, I'm joking," Poppy reassured him, snickering.
He relaxed a little, though he still looked somewhat embarrassed. "Sorry. Um, you're right..." He looked down at his feet, avoiding her gaze.
But it wasn't for long. Poppy's free hand  found its way to his cheek, lifting his head so that he faced her. "And my answer, is yes." She smiled brightly, her fuchsia eyes sparkling. "I would LOVE to be your girlfriend. And I'd love for you to be my boyfriend!"
Branch made a sound of surprise and gaped at her. “Yes? Really? ” He looked utterly ecstatic, as though she were giving him the entire world for the first time. And, in a way, she was, because Poppy was his world.
Poppy laughed again, nodding vigorously. “Uh, yeah! Definitely! I mean, all of Troll Kingdom pretty much thinks we're together anyway!"
"O-Oh... right."
Poppy saw his expression falter a little, and she smiled sweetly at him. "Branch, I'm not saying yes because everyone else thinks we should be together. I'm saying yes because I really want to be with you. You're so sweet, and funny, and kind, and cute... you're just who I want as a boyfriend!"
Branch grinned broadly. "Yeah?"
"Yes!" Poppy said again. "What, you, the guy who's super overprepared for everything, didn't prepare for me to say yes?" She feigned shock.
"Well... there's a first for everything," he laughed.
She joined in his laughter, the two holding each other's hands and grinning. She loved the way he looked at her... like he couldn't believe someone like her existed. And Branch loved how she treated him, like he meant absolutely everything to her. Like he was precious, unique, irreplaceable. He felt like the luckiest Troll in the world. The most important person in the universe. And he loved it. She was perfect for him, in every conceivable way. And he wanted to show her - his girlfriend -  just how special he thought she was.
Branch leaned closer towards her, tilting his head, letting his eyes slip closed. He figured the action would not be a stretch, since she herself had pecked him on the cheek. And there's a first for everything , he reminded himself.
Poppy leaned in, too, a little scared and a little anticipatory for what was coming next. She closed her eyes, her boyfriend's breath caressing her lips just a few centimeters away, and...
KABOOM!
A fizzing sound followed by a loud explosion and burst of light filled the air, causing the two Trolls to jump back from one another in surprise. They looked out into the sky. The balloon had returned back to Pop Village, and fireworks were being shot out around them as part of the holiday celebration. Some Trolls below clapped for the pretty display, some clapped for the couple’s return… most clapped for both!
Poppy and Branch awkwardly cleared their throats, neither knowing quite what to say. They were obviously surprised that their moment had ended abruptly. But it was taken in stride, the mood not completely killed. Instead, Branch extended one of his arms out, wrapping it around Poppy's shoulder and allowing the pink Queen to snuggle up next to him, one of her arms on his chest and the other holding his free hand.
They stood there like that, watching the fireworks go off around them, listening to the cheers of the crowd, and loving the feeling of having each other in their arms, safe, loved and alive in their bubble of happiness. There would be more opportunities to kiss - it was something that came with being boyfriend-and-girlfriend, they knew that.
But for now, this was enough.

Okay, this has honestly been in the back of my mind for years now, but I feel like I must ask. Did anyone else feel an immense feeling of anger/discomfort when Poppy brought the entire village into Branch's bunker? Because I did. When I first saw it, I felt uncomfortable. And to this day, I get the ick thinking about it. Like, I get why she did it, and I understand that it was the safest thing to do for the village, but like... I can't explain just how upsetting it was to me. Branch is a better person than I am, because if it were me, just... no. And she didn't even ask properly! And then had the audacity to say it was a solid burn returned like??? No? No it wasn't? That was a home invasion, not a snipe back at him, what? In what world is his comment on her life skills even remotely on the same level as her just letting the ENTIRE VILLAGE in his house? And they weren't even good houseguests either! They IMMEDIATELY started messing with his stuff, like, have these trolls never heard of proper guest etiquette? Look, I love Poppy, but she can seriously get on my nerves a lot. Especially since the movies made it so that in the end, she doesn't really learn much because her screw ups have a way of completely disappearing with little to no consequences.
To add to this, anyone else feel like when rewatching the first Trolls movie, that Branch was in the right, and that he was done so dirty by so many? Like, the ukulele scene. As a kid, I did think Branch was being rude, but now? Those 2 were literally out in the woods, with who knows what out there. Poppy literally got her friends kidnapped by a BERGEN literally the DAY BEFORE, and she's going back to singing loudly? Like, Poppy, babe, are you TRYING to die? Her whole song just shows how much plot armor Poppy has because, seriously? Not to mention, trolls are tiny, so her singing could genuinely put a target on them. I feel like the only reason Branch didn't up and say this is because it probably should be common knowledge, but apparently, pop trolls don't really have much common sense. I really wish they had Branch explain it though, because as a kid, I thought him to be a killjoy and unnecessarily bossy. But now? Yeah, I can see why singing in the forest when you're tiny might not be the best idea. Makes me wonder just how the pop trolls survived all this time?
I love Poppy, I really do. She's fun, nice, and is a complex protagonist (who is awesome and not a Mary Sue, though the same can't be said for TBGO/Trollstopia Poppy) whose character development is very visible. However, the writers really focus more on Branch's character development than hers and focus more on finding new ways to traumatize him than finding ways to make Poppy more mature, and that's what really bugs me about Poppy's character.
I really wanna start a petition for DreamWorks to lay off Branch for once and give Poppy more attention. I'm not asking to all out traumatize her (though the idea of DreamWorks giving her the Branch Treatment is funny in the mean way) but it would be nice if they gave her another journey where she has to learn and grow, and for there to be consequences that aren't easily waved away by a song and dance. TWT did a decent job at it (it could have been better, but it was a start), and I really need DreamWorks to do something like that (but better, obviously) again.
That being said, I do like how they handled Broppy. They went from rival/strangers to friends to lovers. It didn't happen instantly, and the progression of the relationship didn't feel rushed or forced. They both have an equal standing in the relationship and are supportive of each other. It's cute, and I'm glad DreamWorks at least got that right.
This should have probably been separate asks, but oh well. YOLO or whatever. I just really wanna know your thoughts.
I'm mostly of the same mind it angers me but I get why she did it I feel at the very least she should have told everyone to behave themselves and not act like they were teenagers throwing a house party while their parents were away for the night.
some people have said that maybe she did in on purpose to pressure Branch into going with her but I prefer to think that wasn't the case because in my opinion that would be straight up villainous.
a Royal abusing their power to put pressure on a civilian to Risk their life to rescue a group of your friends who are in danger due to your incompetent leadership.
not to mention a civilian who she knows is more terrified of the Bergens than anyone else in the village.
yeah that would make her an out and out villain imo so I prefer to think that wasn't her intention.
I don't feel its so bad it needs to be changed in the story overall but I would have liked it had Branch actually called her out on it.
basically just have him angrily point out to her after she acts like it wasn't a big deal because it was just a bunch of old Junk. that it wasn't just a place to him it was his home and that wasn't just a load of old Junk it was stuff he worked hard for years to make and it made him feel safer it was the only place he actually felt safe and like he could relax.
maybe prompting Poppy to actually give a more genuine apology as before she just thought of his home as him being over the top for the sake of it.
since she and the village just viewed him as a Drama queen and she didn't really realise his fears were actually so genuine that the Bunker actually mattered to him that deeply.
part of me thinks the intent by the writers was for her consequences in the first film to be being betrayed by Creek who she cared about but yeah that whole thing could have been handled better.
her and her dads leadership put him in danger and he literally said what he had to say in order to avoid being eaten alive he didn't really have any agency in the betrayal.
so Poppy's somber pleas for him to not go through with it kinda make me mad tbh like this whole situation is your fault yet my guy Creek is expected to die because of it.
so your incompetent dad can live? yeah no.
also if you made that Petition for Branch I'd totally sign it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
and I agree Poppy deserves some more focus and development tho a touch of angst for her I think could maybe be a good thing in making her character stronger.
like I've said before maybe having Peppy die in a future film and her at first trying to ignore her grief by focusing on her queen duties and slapping on her usual smile worrying both Branch and Viva.
or having her mother turn up in the future like some fans have suggested only for her to be a selfish villain who couldn't care less about Poppy and Viva.
and this is the proper shock to Poppy's "" family is always great "" mentality as even with Bro zone they worked things out in the end making her think no family could be entirely broken.
but her mother literally doesn't give a shit if her children live or die and she maybe abandoned them both when Poppy was a baby.
drawing a little contrast with Branch only for the mother to have zero remorse since she didn't want children and maybe she was only with Peppy for status as royalty.
and Bro zone could be shown as being more remorseful over the past even a while after the events of TBT which contrasts with Poppy's mom kinda nicely.
anyway I'm getting off topic a bit lol but yeah I agree Poppy needs more focus and Branch's needs to be picked on less by the writers.
but I feel a touch of angst directed Poppy's way could give her some good development and make her a stronger character overall.
edit. also as someone who doesn't like Hugs Poppy's smug stunt with the Hug time Bracelets does make me a little mad like tell the Trolls to Respect people's Boundaries Girl.

Aight. Here we go part 3 of
HOW THEY HELP YOU THROUGH THAT TIME OF MONTH
With the Trolls World tour characters
PRINCE D
You accidentally stowed away with Biggie on Poppy's journey to unite the trolls. Everything was going by so fast you were just kinda there. Not really doing much. Everything finally began to slow down when you were on that raft, calmly floating down the river, sort of wishing you had left with Biggie. You didn't feel all to comfortable around this Hickory guy. When the aircraft appeared above you, you had started to believe it was a dream, especially when you were floating around in a bubble and started seeing two Coopers. Wait....the others were seeing it too. Wait...OH SHIT THIS ISN'T A DREAM COOPER IS A MAIN CHARACTER OF THE CLASSIC I FINALLY REUNITED WITH MY FAMILY AFTER BEING SEPARATED FROM THEM AS A BABY WHAT THE WHAT!?!
Oh damn his twin is hot though.
A part of you wanted to laugh remembering how you first met Prince D, the rest of you wanted to smash something. After a few weeks of dating, Prince D had invited you to move in, and you greatfully accepted. You had a few good friends, but no family back in Pop Village. If anything, you made more friends in Vibe City. King Quincy and Queen Essence had welcomed you with open arms and treated you like family. Cooper was happy to have a familar face around, made settling in much easier for the both of you. If only, these stupid cramps, would stop. They went on for twenty minutes, stopped for five, and then went back to biting at you again. You groaned in pain and curled up into a ball.
"Hey, Stella wanted to know if you wanted to hang with her since she's going to visit Volcano City." Prince D peeked his head into the room.
"Right now is not really the best time. Can you tell her that I can't come this time, please?" You asked, your voice slightly muffled by the blankets and pillows.
"Uh, yeah...sure thing, babe." Prince D responded and left. You sighed and tried to take advantage of one of your five minute breaks to fall asleep to avoid the pain, but you weren't all that lucky. You yelled into the pillows in frustration, trying to figure out what you could throw or punch without causing any damage or making to much noise. Before you could truly begin plotting, Prince D came back in and gave you a kiss on top of your head, causing you to relax a little.
"Here, drink this." Prince D handed you a cup of what looked like orange juice. You gave him a puzzled look. "It tastes like orange juice, but its actually a medicine to help cure pain and help put the consumer to sleep. Most girls in Vibe City use it during that time of month. Including my mom. You should've seen the look on her face when she found Cooper passed out on the kitchen floor after he accidentally assumed it was normal orange juice. He couldn't tell the difference since there weren't any labels!" Prince D laughed. You giggled at the story too. Classic Cooper. Though anyone could make that mistake. You gulped the drink, now realizing just how thirsty you actually were. When was the last time you actually drank something that day? Had you even gotten out of bed yet? The drowsiness immediately hit you and your eyelids were too heavy to keep open.
"Woah. I guess its a lot more effective and faster on Pop trolls than I thought." Prince D said as he took the now empty cup from you and put it on the nightstand next to the bed.
"Mmm...definitely better than any painkiller I've tried. Thank you, D." You thanked him as you began to fall asleep.
"Anything for you, Babe." Prince D kissed you on the head one more time before you fell asleep.
"FOR CRYING OUT LOUD WHO GOT INTO THE JUICE THIS TIME!?!"
"Uh oh." Prince D forgot that his mom was in the middle of having the same problems.
Riff
After the World Tour, you had gone through the effort to get to know the rock trolls and their music better. You'd be lying if you said you weren't absolutely in love with the drums. And who else would be better to teach you how to play the drums better than the drummer boy himself, Riff. He was happy to see someone else from a completely different genre drawn to the drums as much as he was. Everyone else was still nervous and on edge around them, and most of the rockers were singers, dancers, and/or guitarists. He was one of the few drummers and the absolute best at it. You two became friends instantly and he started to follow you around wherever you went(your one of the few to show him kindness and affection this is the price you gotta pay). You were fine with it, he was an absolute cinnamon roll and you loved having him around. He eventually moved in with you to Pop Village. He was fascinated by their music and welcoming culture. Overwhelmed from all the kindness being shown to him, there was no way he was leaving now. Barb ended up having to get one of the other few drummers to take his place, despite them not being nearly as talented. He still got his college credit though. It was no surprise to anyone when you two started dating. You two were the cutest couple (besides broppy) in the village. You were so kind, loving, affectionate, calm, caring, and gentle, he was nearly mentally scarred when he came home one day to find the place trashed. He was scared, assuming the worst and yelling out your name, on the edge of tears. He let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding when he heard your voice. He started to attack you with questions, trying to figure out what happened.
"Riff, listen to me." You grabbed both sides of his face, making him shut up instantly. "I love you, but if you keep asking questions, I'm gonna punch a hole in the wall." You said, your face dead serious. Riff was lost. Then it hit him. You were acting like a rock troll female during that time of month. Except you were still holding on to your sanity. Riff picked you up bridal style and laid you down in bed, wrapping you up as best he could in the blankets. He cleaned up the pod and put everything back in it's place.
"You uh...kinda remind me of Barb during her struggle...but uh...she didn't stop at any point and I think she accidentally punched me a few times." Riff nervously admitted as he sat down next to you. You whimpered and wrapped your arms around his waist.
"I'm so sorry, baby. I didn't mean to scare you like that." You apologized.
"It's not your fault." Riff shrugged and ran his fingers through your hair. "I can't imagine what it's like to go through what your going through. Your really strong to be going through this for most of your life without any way to stop it. And despite it all, you still show love. It's amazing." Riff rambled on.
"I usually take painkillers to help, but the pain is dying down a little now. I think I'll be fine." You yawned. There was a pause.
"Cuddles?"
"Please?"
Never let this precious bean go.
Biggie
You grew up in the pod next to him. You were best friends since diapers. You gave Mr.Dinkles to him as a present on one of his birthdays after you found him lost in the woods. You two started dating as teenagers. You two were married before the world tour started. He already knew to get you your painkillers and chocolates ready before you even knew it was about to start. He was like a big pillow so cuddles were no problem. The giant teddy bear of a husband always made sure to leave Mr. Dinkles with you in case he absolutely needed to leave. Unless it was really important or an actual emergency(which probably only happened one time) he absolutely refused to leave your side. He'd ask his cousin Legsly for help sometimes when it seemed to get worse than usual. Love you big blue teddy bear and his worm and never let them go.

Branch is scared. Oh, he is so scared.
Last month was such an emotional rollercoaster for the god of the Night. He had cured himself of feeling anything he doesn't know how long ago. He was just empty and blank for the world out of his duty. When "Poppy" just happened without any warning, he tried getting to it, treating it like another tree that grew in the forest. Cause it was just another Immortal who ignored him. No big deal. Half a year lasted quickly as usual.
But then the pink woman started to interact with him. It woke up many forgotten thoughts in his nighty mind. Mostly emotions like anger or frustration. But when she apologized to him... Like to normal, equal Immortal... Like it was her who was a bad guy in this world... His inside just exploded with feelings and thoughts.
Firstly he tried to dull them, but he didn't feel that he wanted to do it so desperately like he used to. For the first time in his life, he doesn't feel like hiding himself is what he needs. Well, it is even the opposite: he discovers curiously new thoughts and feelings inside him and it is more and more fascinating for some reason...
Especially this weird brand-new thing he feels when Poppy smiles gently or says something really nice about him... or when she touches him...
So Branch is scared. The Palace of Harmony is overwhelmingly big and a huge azure entrance suggests that behind it are so many Immortals, so many halls and chambers, there is so loud of laughs and talk, food and drinks everywhere, and there is nothing like Silence he likes... There are so many reasons to be scared for him. But he doesn't feel bad about his scare. It's weird. But he really wants to walk there for Poppy. To show her and himself, that he really deserves a friend like she is. He knew that he would be stressed, he expected that, he has reasons to be stressed, he was ready for that, he doesn't let the fear stop him this time.
So yes, Branch is scared, but he feels also a bit of excitement.
- So... - The goddess of the Day smiles nervously. - How do you feel?
Branch takes a deep breath.
- Still weird with the fact that we left the Staff of the Light in the checkroom.
- Well - Poppy chuckles. - It is gods' checkroom after all. In the Palace of Harmony.
- Yeah, but... It was said to be the most important artifact in the world.
- I know, dad told me a lot about how careful I have to be with the Staff - She rolls her eyes. - Way too much I think.
- So - Branch whispers after a long while of Silence. - We go in?
This time Poppy takes a deep breath.
- I'm so stressed! - She whispers loudly. - I know it's nothing to be scared about, but what if I say something stupid on the Sharing! I've never taken part in the Sharing!
- Well, it is so stressful...
- I've planned what to say for so long... I wrote it on paper, but I still feel it's not perfect
- Can I see it?
- I threw it away.
- Oh.
- The others are way more experienced than me. What if I... I don't know, say something so obvious for them? What if they wouldn't be that impressed by things I'm gonna share? What if I bore them or even annoy them? What if I say something stupid in front of all of the Immortals, including my dad?!
- Don't worry, I'll be there with you - Branch puts his hoodie off and smirks at her. - To laugh the loudest.
Poppy collapses a giggle.
- It's you who is supposed to be the stressed one - She chuckles.
- Oh I am so terrified - His voice almost trembled. - I do it only for a friend.
She frowns, smiling at him.
- Your friend must be so lucky for having you.
Branch has not a clue how she knows the exact words to leave him speechless, mindless, melted like a snowman in spring, and with heart rushing like a falcon hunting its victim.
He forces himself to stop staring at her pink eyes and look away. He pins his eyes on the blue door handle and the single thought can stay in his mind, it just drops from his lips without his awareness, as a quiet mild whisper:
- I hope she is...
He grabs the handle as quickly as he can, just to pretend that he didn't say anything, and he gives her an asking sight.
- Are we going in?
Poppy looks down smiling slightly. She takes a single strand of her dark pink hair behind her ear.
- Yeah - She grabs the other handle and finally looks at him. - Let's do it in three.
He nods.
- One - He starts counting.
- Two...
- Three! - They say together and press the handles.
The loud chatter just hits them in their face. The huge chamber is full of a talking and laughing crowd of colorful Immortals. There are so many, so many of them. Branch's ears get down. He suddenly realizes that he forgets about the fact that he got his hoodie off. It's so embarrassing. He immediately puts it back on his head.
- I don't know, you look pretty creepy in it - He hears Poppy's voice next to him. - Earlier was better. Much more friendly.
He glances at her and her encouraging smile. His hand clenched on the edges of his hoodie are shivering. His breath is snatchy. Maybe he isn't ready as he thought...
- We can leave.
He even forgets that he is still staring at Poppy. Her voice is so calm.
- They haven't noticed us yet. We can leave if you want.
Branch hesitates. The crowd is really big.
- What about the Sharing?
She shrugs her shoulders.
- I have the opportunity every year.
- How do you do it so easily? - He breathes it out.
- Reading your mind?
- Giving up on your dreams for me.
- Well, maybe one day you will do the same for me?
Branch closes his eyes. He takes a few deep breaths. Really deep. He stands straight. And puts his hoodie off.
- This day is today, my lady!
Poppy squeals so loudly with joy. She jumps a few times like a happy little kid and then punches Branch in the arm like Barb usually does, making him say 'ouch' and rub his arm.
- That's my man! - She cheers, pointing at him with two finger-guns.
He can't do much but chuckle. Now the goddess is really in her element. She forgets about all the stress and worries, she looks so happy to be here and see her friends. She's...
- Branch! What a surprise! - The familiar voice calls him from the crowd, interrupting his thoughts.
Oh. Of course. Poppy's squeal caught the interest. He should've expected that. He feels his head naked and his face too visible. But no no no no no, he can do this!
OH thank goodness, it is Milton.
- Hi - The god of the Night tries to sound confident, but of course, he's not. - Nice to meet you
- It is nice to meet YOU here! - The god of the critters chuckles. - I didn't expect you here!
- Well, I'm as surprised as you...
- Oh, I'm sorry, where are my manners! - He says, noticing Poppy. - It's also nice to meet you, Poppy!
- Not as much as you, Milton - She smiles sweetly.
- As charming as always - Violet-skinned god smiles at her back and for some reason Branch feels he doesn't like it. But why?
- So what happened that you're here? - Milton turns back to the god. - And you put your hoodie off!
- I know. It's so crazy, isn't it?
- Well, now you look much more like you
- I know, right? - Poppy beams. - I told him the same!
- So you made him do those things? - Milton chuckles.
- It was my decision - Branch points out.
- Yes, it was his decision. And I wouldn't be more proud of my friend - She smiles at the blue-skinned god, making his lips form into a smile too.
- Milton is right. You are so charming - He says, looking away.
The violet god and the pink goddess laugh. And it is so good. With every single minute Branch feels more and more confident.
- Maybe we should find some food? - He suggests. - I'm starving after all of this stress.
- Oh yeah, me either - Poppy agrees.
- I guide you to the buffet - Milton points at the crowd. - Follow me!
So walking through the Immortals with his hoodie off is... Weird. Branch feels so many eyes on him, but he also hears so many greets. He didn't expect even one nice greet, so all of those "Oh, is that Branch? He looks so good!'', "Branch? It's good to see you here!", "Look! Branch's here!", "Nice to meet ya, Branch!" - cheer his spirit up a lot. Everybody smiles at him, one guy even gives him a high five (his name is Cooper if Branch remembers it correctly). When they finally arrive at the table with the food, his heart has not a bit of fear. He is trembling slightly from excitement.
Immortals don't need to eat or even drink. They do it just for the taste of food, so it is kind of entertainment for them. Branch doesn't remember when was the last time he tastes something. But Poppy is so excited to try every single dish and drink. And of course, she has to share everything with friends around, and Branch isn't an exception. Chocolate, fruits, fruits in chocolate, cakes, cookies... He feels full so quickly, but the food just tastes irresistibly good. And besides that, nothing could stop Poppy from sharing everything with him.
While more and more her friends are coming to meet the goddess of the Day, Branch also starts to be surrounded by Immortals. They all are just fascinated to meet him face to face. His real blue face. They treat him like a lost brother who's found after years, who was missed and longed-for, and it is so touching. He never dreamed about them being so nice to him, but the last thing he expected was that he could find a lot in common with some of them. He has no idea how long he spent debating with Delta Dawn, the goddess of Justice, and Quincy, the god of Wisdom, about trolls' near and far future.
And then, out of sudden, the sound of the bells' ringing carries through the chamber. Everybody cheers and starts to leave. Except for Branch.
- So... I guess it's the Sharing time - He hears Poppy's voice next to him.
- Yep. They are going to the Sharing room?
- Yes.
- Are we going with them?
The pink woman bites her lips and starts nodding.
- Scared and excited? - The god guesses.
- Yes.
- Me either - He says and shows her a fist to bump.
- A fist bump? - She chuckles.
- Barb taught me. She gave me a professional handshaking course. I have the license now.
Poppy laughs heartily. After hours of talking with the others Branch really missed that sound. She bumps his fist and adds a little 'explosion'.
- I have to say, I'm pretty impressed - She smiles at him. - I didn't expect you would adapt so quickly.
- Neither did I - He smirks. - But I am so glad that you forced me to come here.
- I forced you? You made this decision yourself! I even told you many times that you didn't have to come!
- I know, I know - Branch chuckles. - But it is your fault after all.
And out of sudden, totally automatically, without thinking, without planning it, without any reason to do that, he just raises his hand and grabs the strand of her hair that just fell on her face and put it behind her ear. As if he does it every day, but he doesn't. He did it so mindlessly. He realizes what he's doing only then does his fingers touch the warm, pink skin of her ear. He gets his hand back like burnt.
- I'm sorry!
- No no no! It was quite... nice of you thank you... - Poppy says without commas. She bites her lips, looking away.
- We-we should go - Branch announces awkwardly.
- Yes! - Poppy turns to the entrance with the same awkward grimace on her face.
The Sharing room is a place that needs a bit more attention. There are around a hundred of Immortals and the room is big enough to seat exactly that amount of gods. Comfy colorful benches are mounted in circles. The ceiling is really high and in the dome shape to make the room acoustic. In the very center is a little round stage with stairs, so the person standing on it who shares things with their audience is visible and hearable for everyone.
Seats are not permanent, so Poppy and Branch just sit where is the nearest. They didn't intend to sit together, they just sat down. When everybody has a seat, King Peppy announces the Sharing and the room fills cheers. The order is spontaneous. Immortals just stand up and walk on the stage in the center. If two or more stand up at the same time, they give way to each other politely. Everything goes with harmony and respect. When someone tells about their achievements from the previous year of their work, everybody is listening up to them quietly, and when the person on the stage finishes the story, some Immortals ask a few questions with a curious and genuine interest. Every god and goddess stepping down the stage gets a huge, loud applause.
Poppy is shifting on her seat the whole time. After a long while she whispers to Branch:
- After this one. I'll stand up after this one.
- Are you sure you're ready?
- Yes!
- I mean, emotionally.
The pink goddess bites her lips.
- No.
Branch thinks for a moment.
- So here's the plan: if you forget what you wanted to say, I'll start choking so loud so Moonbloom, the goddess of Health, will jump to help me and...
- No, Branch, no! - Poppy whispers, trying not to laugh. - I can do this.
- I do not doubt it - He smiles at her and their sights meet. They both jump when gods start suddenly cheering and applause.
- Okay - Poppy takes a deep breath. - Let's go.
She stands up and gets everybody's attention. They all start clapping again and King Peppy even yells "That's my daughter!" which is a bit embarrassing for her. When the goddess of the Day steps on the stage, the view of a hundred Immortals makes her lose her grip. So many eyes directed into her. She feels breathless for a minute. But then she notices someone waving to her shyly. It is Branch. When he gets her attention, he lifts the corners of his mouths with his fingers, forming a smile, way too wide for his face. Poppy grins, amused. She takes a look around the audience and sighs deeply.
- So my name is Poppy, as you all know, and I am the goddess of the Day.
She takes another deep breath and stands upright.
- This year was really short for me, but also full of hard work and successes I'm super proud of! But the one I want to tell you the most, the one I put all of my heart into and cost me a lot of time and effort, but... It was totally worth it.
She thinks a few seconds before her next words.
- You know, I firstly wanted to tell you, guys, a long story about singing birds and colorful dawns and twilights. But just now I realize what is really the thing I want to share with you.
She put another little pause here.
- It's my teamwork. I mean... - Poppy looks straightly into Branch, but even if someone can't see what she is looking at, they all just know. - Our teamwork.
The god of the Night just blinks with surprise, staring at Poppy with his eyes wide open.
- We made the Midday - Poppy continues, looking around. - The time during the Day when trolls and other creatures can take a break from hard-working.
She tells everything from the very first concept of the idea to the successful final. She doesn't forget to mention what an important part of this project had Branch and his idea of shadows. When she finishes, the audience just explodes with loud applause. Everybody calls Midday genius and amazing. Poppy jumps excitedly from the stage and runs back to her seat.
- Are you hearing this applause, Branch? - She yells to be heard through the noise. That was so stupid question and she knows it, she just was so excited. But then she realizes...
The god of the Night isn't here.
- Did you see where he went? - Poppy asks Holly, who sits right next to her seat.
- You won't believe me if I tell you - The orange goddess chuckles, and then to Poppy's huge shock, she points at the stage.
- So... All I want to say is - When Branch starts speaking, the Silence falls in the room. - I wasn't here for such a long time. I used to hate Sharing so badly, you all know about it. But I feel that for the first time in my life I have something to share.
He speaks confidently and loud, but without looking at anybody. His body is all hidden under his grey capote, only his head is visible.
- I made it with Milton's and Suki's little help. - He announces, and then he gets his voice quieter and more gentle, as if he speaks to himself, looking down at the stage's floor. - To fill the Night with the sweet sound of humming.
He stands a minute in Silence, but nobody interrupts it or even moves. Everybody waits patiently and almost breathless. And then he opens his capote, like big dark wings and the soft sounds of hundred little voices humming a sweet melody carry through the room. Tiny colorful birds fly from the stage and surround the audience to its amazement.
- Hummingbirds! - Poppy squeals way too loud. - It's hummingbirds!
- Yes, it is - Branch nods, aware that the pink goddess can't hear him. He smiles at her pure happiness, at her eyes pin in the birds flying around.
If a year ago someone told him that he would take part in the Sharing, the god of the Night would laugh or at least swear that if it'd so, he would be forced to do it. But now, he is standing on the stage willingly. And he doesn't regret being here.

LOOK! I WROTE SOMETHING! I AM NOT DEAD! Just still distracted by the RP with Autumn. It's too fun, can you blame me? We have such a cute universe happening. Anyway, the muses finally spoke to me and I've been wanting to do a 5+1 for a while now and the right idea came to me. And while this may be a little late it's also my Broppy Day submission. Although when you ship Broppy, everyday is Broppy Day XD
So without future ado, enjoy!

1.
This was it. This was the night Branch Hawthorn was finally going to propose to his girlfriend of two years, Poppy Meadows. Everything was going to plan and for that Branch was grateful for as he was nervous enough as it was. Both he and Poppy had been able to leave their respective works early to get ready, although Poppy just believed tonight was a fairly normal date night. Then, looking their best and with clear starry night above them, they gotten to Trollington's best restaurant, Chez L'amour, with minimal traffic interference and their reservation had not been lost or given away, things Branch had worried about. Now, with their belly's full of warm delicious food and wine -though Poppy was always quick to assure Branch his cooking was still her very favorite- and dessert on the horizon, Branch was ready to take the plunge.
The mood was perfect, candlelight gleamed and a soft melody was echoing around them and Poppy was looking so beautiful with her bright pink hair pulled up with some strands framing her heart-shaped face and her freckles lit up by the flickering candles and her own bright smile. And her eyes, those beautiful, amber eyes that he just loved to get lost in, were shining with warmth and love just for him. And that was something he still couldn't get over, after all those years of pining and yet so sure he didn't deserve her, he had gotten the girl of his dreams and she loved him. And he hoped she accepted what he was about to ask.
Reaching out across the table, Branch took her hand in his as he returned her smile and hoped the nervousness he felt wasn't obvious. He must have been doing a good job of hiding it so far but he didn't want her to notice now before he had a chance to ask. And maybe it was a little cliché to ask in a romantic restaurant setting but he had spent weeks thinking about this and building up his confidence and he wasn't about to chicken out now. Given her hand a squeeze, he took a sip of his water to wet his throat before speaking, “Enjoy your dinner?” Start small, don't jump into it. All part of the plan.
His gorgeous pinkette grinned and nodded, “Yup! And I can't wait for dessert! I have been dreaming about their triple layer strawberry chiffon cake all week!” She took a sip of her wine before returning his squeeze of their hands before a playful smirk overcame her face and she cupped her chin in her head as she leaned over the table, “You know...You never did tell me why you decided this would be our date destination~ What made you choose the fancy place?”
Branch chuckled and hoped it sounded normal, it sounded off to him, but he simple shrugged and tried not to look away from those wonderful and curious eyes, “What? Can't a boyfriend treat his girlfriend to a fancy dinner once in a while? Plus I know how much you love to dress up, thought it be nice.” And he had a small square box burning a hole in his pocket, just waiting to be pulled out. Absolutely nothing unusual going on. Nope. “And have I mentioned just how beautiful you look tonight? Because you do, absolutely stunning~” He even raised her hand to his lips to kiss her knuckles softly to complete his statement.
“Stooop~” She giggled, that perfect sound the best kind of music to his ears as a light blush dusted her cheeks, “Keep talking like that and you might get lucky tonight~”
“I'm already lucky~” And he was. So, so lucky that this brilliantly bright and bubbly woman had not only healed his torn soul and made him want to live rather than just survive but had given her heart fully to him to hold and cherish. Something he did every day so thankfully and would hopefully get to do well into the future together with matching rings on their fingers. Taking what he hoped was a subtle deep breath, for this was it, he wouldn't get a better time to, Branch opened him mouth to begin his speech, something he had been working painstakingly on for months, pretty much since he decided he was going to propose, but was interrupted by the sound of applause.
He and Poppy, who took her hand back to turn around, looked at the reason for it at another table where another couple sat. A brunette man down on one knee was slipping a ring on the happily crying blonde woman's finger as the other patrons clapped for them. Poppy bounced in her seat, adding to the applause, cooing before she spun back around, “Isn't that sweet?! I'm so happy Oak finally proposed! Oh, Daffodil must be so happy! Isn't that great, Branch? Our friends are gonna get married!”
“Y-yeah..Super great.” Branch hoped beyond hope he wasn't being obvious on how he really felt. Of course! Of course the universe would do this to him! It was all going so well! But then of course something had to happen to ruin his plans! Yes, he could still ask Poppy. No, it wasn't Oak's fault for asking his own girlfriend just before he could but he didn't dare take the spotlight away from the other couple. Poppy was right, they were their friends, and while he was sure neither would mind it still felt wrong to Branch to ask Poppy now after somebody else had beaten him to the punch. Sighing, confidence now deflating as he slumped slightly in his chair, Branch decided he'd just have to try another time. It was fine. Completely fine! That decision made, not that it made him happy, the blue-haired survivalist resolved himself to finish off the rest of this night as best he could. Not that Poppy had any idea, she was far too excited to think anything was wrong with him as she pulled him over to congratulate their friends.
And maybe this was for the best, maybe his second attempt would go better?
2.
A few weeks later, some more planning, a few personal pep-talks and Branch was ready to try again. They were currently in her father's backyard, surrounded by all their closest friends, even Gristle and Bridget who managed to make it down from Bergenville, having a simple summer barbecue. Branch was manning the grill, keeping half an eye on the food and the other half on Poppy as she fluttered around their friends, having fun playing games and jamming out to the music Suki had brought along. And perhaps this would be a better proposal anyway. While Branch would have must prefer to propose in a more private setting, which made him wonder why he even thought of the restaurant version in the first place, Poppy would probably enjoy it more if it happened surrounded by the people she loved most. And she deserved everything that made her happy.
Adjusting a few hot dogs so they wouldn't burn, he closed the grill just as his barefooted beauty came skipping over, a cheery smile gracing her lips. Setting down his tongs, Branch easily and happily welcomed her into his arms as she wrapped hers around his neck and gave his nose a fond nuzzle, “Mmm~ Everything smells amazing! Can't wait to eat!”
Branch chuckled warmly, nuzzling her back as he rubbed circles with his thumbs over her hips, leaning closer to her, “Should be ready soon. I know everyone's getting hungry. But first...” He then closed the minimal gap between them, giving her a soft kiss that had her sighing and relaxing in his arms. Sharing a few more soft kisses, and ignoring the wolf whistles from Guy and Smidge, Branch subtly glanced at the grill and decided the food would be okay for a moment. Because he figured now was a good time to pop the question to the queen of his heart as he had her undivided attention. Subtly guiding her away from the barbecue, he distracted her with words and some more gentle meetings of their lips, “Having fun, I take it?”
She giggled, that wonderful, tinkling sound that always spread warmth through him and nodded, “You know it~! I'm so glad everyone was able to make it! It feels like forever since we last did something!” It really hadn't, the Snack Pack was still just as close as they'd always been but Poppy was always one for exaggerating when she could. And well...maybe it had been a few weeks since they'd gotten a chance to just relax and hang out without work or other engagements in the way.
Speaking of engagements....
Branch stopped the careful migration a few feet from the hot grill, in a good spot where everyone would be able to see what was about to happen and carefully nuzzled his and Poppy's noses together, hoping she couldn't feel the sudden rapid beating of his heart, “So I wanted to ask you something..”
“Hmm? Yeeess~?” She hummed, watching him with those sparkling eyes he really did drown in every time he looked into them.
“Well I-”
And for the second time his very important question was interrupted, this time by the back gate slamming open and a familiar voice shouting, “Sup, Losers!!! The party's just arrived!”
“Barb!!!” Poppy screeched happily, tearing herself away from Branch to run and jump into her cousins hold with a very enthusiastic hug. One the punk-rock queen caught easily before swinging the bubblegum princess around, laughing loudly.
“Sup, Popsqueak?! Came to see if I couldn't liven you and your sugary-sweet friends up a little!” The red-pink mo-hawked band leader said, finally putting the other woman down as her right-hand band mate and drummer came up beside her, in a much more subdued manner. “Yo! Boy-Toy! Add a few extra burgers cause I'm starvin'!”
“There's plenty!” Branch cried back as Poppy and the Pack swarmed Barb for greetings and playful jabs. He then sighed roughly, ran a hand through his hair and returned to make sure nothing had burned. It was fine. No big deal. There was still plenty of day left for him to try again. There was just an extra few people around to watch now. As he checked on the food on the grill, moving a few things around and taking the vegetable skewers off, Riff came over after getting his own excited hug from Poppy.
“Sup, man. Everything okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, everything's fine.” Okay, mostly fine. But having been around Poppy since they were kids, Branch knew to try to look for the silver living. He'd get another chance later that evening, he was sure. “Just weren't expecting you guys. Little surprised.” More like a little annoyed at the interruption but he'd get over it.
The dark hair drummer chuckled softly, “Yeah...but you know the boss lady. Loves to make a entrance. But hey! We brought beer!” He lifted up a large case of beer as a peace offering. Branch gestured to the cooler behind him, telling him to add some to it and thanked him, mind half on the cooking, half on thinking about when he'd get that second chance to talk to Poppy.
...Sadly for poor Branch, that chance never came.
Having spent the rest of his time at the grill, catching up with Riff, he had soon let everyone know food was ready and the group swarmed up for the delicious smelling entrees. Then as everyone are and laughed and enjoyed, Barb and Riff regaled everyone with tales of shenanigans and adventures of their world tour. Describing the pounding energy of their concert in Brazil to their little hot spring mishap in Japan after a show. Poppy was thoroughly entranced by her cousins tales and completely distracted from Branch's attempts to gain a little attention long enough for him to get the question burning in his throat out. Then of course the pop/rock duo started the karaoke with a bang, which as fun as it was, just distracted Poppy more and didn't give Branch a chance to regain any sort of romantic mood. By the time the sun was long set but the energy of everyone was still high, Branch had given up for the night. There was no way he going to propose tonight, especially after Barb convinced everyone to go clubbing.
They say third times the charm, right?
3.
A week and some brooding later and Branch was ready to start planning again. He needed to come up with a good one too this time, something where they'd be alone, without anyone around and where he'd have Poppy's undivided attention. However he, himself, was slightly distracted and prevented from doing any sort of real planning as he and Poppy were currently passing Saturday night as they were prone to do. Snuggled up on the couch, lights dimmed and watching movies. There was even a light pattering of rain outside to add the cozy atmosphere they found themselves in.
A Rom-com Poppy had been wanting to see was currently playing, the screen flickering image's by as the main character's flubbed another love confession and Poppy snuggled up close to his chest. Branch's head rested on the arm rest, arms wrapped snugly around his girlfriend, rubbing mindless shapes where his hands rested on her waist. He knew as soon as the movie was over they would probably have to move to bed, sleeping on the couch was not that comfortable nor good for them after all, but right now he was in no position to move either of them. Bending his neck, he buried his nose in her pink locks and inhaled the fresh strawberry scent of her favorite shampoo, nuzzling gently. That was when it hit him, they were alone, there was no one or anything to interrupt him and he'd have Poppy's full attention. Yes, his inner romantic cried at the lack of romance but he had learned from Poppy to take the opportunity when it was presented to you, not to shy away. So, taking a subtle breath to calm his suddenly beating heart, Branch got ready to take the plunge.
Starting simple, he murmured softly, “I love you~”
“Mmm~ Love you too~” The pinkette responded in a light and airy voice, settling as deep as she could into his embrace.
Taking a moment to rub her shoulder and place a gentle kiss on the top if her head, Branch began a speech that he'd crafted and re-crafted hundreds of times already it felt like and it never felt perfect. Hopefully though now, he'd find the right words. “I...can't tell you just how lucky I am to have you in my life. You are...the greatest thing to ever happen to me and I am so, so grateful you took the chance on this ragged, broken and gray soul and made life bright again. You...Heh, you are my sunshine, making my days brighter and fuller and more fun than ever before. And yeah, you're crazy with your scheme's and your scrapbooking and leaving glitter everywhere but I wouldn't trade that for the world. Bring on the cupcakes and rainbows because I'm ready...ready to spend the rest of my life with you beside me. Call me selfish but I...I don't ever want to go back to the dark and dull existence. I want you and your sunshine to wake up next to until we're old and bent over and you're still rocking that pink hair. Poppy...I love you so much and if you'll have me, it would make me the happiness man in the entire universe if you agreed to be mine forever. So...I ask you, Poppy Meadows, will...” Deep breath, “Will you marry me?”
There, he'd done it, he finally asked Poppy to marry him and now all that was left was for her to answer and then he could go get the ring from it's place and he could finally see it on her finger. But as the minutes ticked by and he got no answer, Branch was beginning to worry. Had he fucked up? Did he say something wrong? Did she not want to? Was she in shock? Was she trying to find a way to turn him down gently?! Trying not to panic, and failing just a bit, Branch carefully turned his head to look at the woman in his arms, “Poppy?”
And found she was asleep, breath's even and deep and completely dead to the world and the proposal he had just cited.
Biting back a silent groan, Branch tilted his head over the arm rest and stared at the ceiling. Of course, why wouldn't this happen?! The universe truly must hate him if it had allowed him to finally ask Poppy only for her to be asleep and having missed the entire thing. Great, just effing great, now he would have to get up the confidence to try again and after three failed attempts he was starting to think maybe he shouldn't. But, as the beautiful girl in arms would tell him, he needed to get back up again and not give up. And it said something about her impact on him when he knew after a little time moping about the newest failed attempt he would do just that.
Besides, he couldn't fail four times in a row, right?
4.
Another few weeks later and Branch was in the midst of planning something the would surely be his best plan yet when Poppy had decided a spontaneous camping trip up in the mountains would be fun. Unable to deny her but secretly lamenting the lost chance of being able to ask her under the fireworks display that was happening that weekend, Branch had agreed. So they packed up the car and drove off for a weekend spent in nature. Which normally would have thrilled Branch but he was still sort of disappointed in the loss of another romantic plan.
However, even though she had no idea she had off railed another proposal attempt, Poppy still managed to cheer him up with her natural exuberance and joy. And the more he thought about, a proposal under the stars with nothing but the quiet sounds of nature around them would be better anyway. He wouldn't have to compete with the sounds of the fireworks and worry about whether Poppy would hear him correctly or not. Yeah, this would be far better and far more romantic. So by the time they reached the campsite, Branch was in a higher mood then when they left, plans already formed around what he'd cook and how he would go about creating the perfect mood.
Arriving at the campsite in the late evening, Branch decided he'd wait until the following night to enact his grand plan, he'd waited this long after all. So he and Poppy went about building their campsite, throwing up the tent and while she piled the sleeping bags, blankets and pillows they had brought into a proper nest, he went to find them some firewood. Soon they had a nice cozy fire to sit by and after a quick meal of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, they were cuddled up in Branch's chair, Poppy having abandoned hers in favor of his lap. And having his loving, cheerful, kind girlfriend snuggled up in his lap had almost made Branch abandon all plans and just propose right there, he stopped himself. Waiting one more day wouldn't kill him, plus Poppy was already half asleep and he didn't want a repeat of his attempt on the couch. So, picking her up and carting her off to get settled in the tent, he quickly doused the flames before joining her, falling asleep with her in his arms and images of tomorrow night dancing in his head.
Too bad he hadn't foreseen the incident that had occurred the next day.
After a morning spent cuddling, flirting and in all good mood, something Poppy made sure to tease him about saying she had been right that the trip would be a good thing, his pink whirlwind had suggested a little hike after lunch. The day was perfect for it, sunny, a little breezy with fluffy white clouds drifting by in the sky, so Branch had agreed. Never mind that he was looking forward to the evening once the stars came out. So packing up some water bottles, trail mix, a few energy bars and gummy candies, they had set off on the local hiking trail.
Poppy of course either filmed or took pictures of anything she saw that she liked, which was almost any flower or butterfly that passed by and Branch was content to just let her be herself, in far too good a mood to be his usual sarcastic self. Well, almost, he did try to act normal as to not tip Poppy off. But she had still noticed something and when she asked him what had in such a good mood, he simply replied with why wouldn't he be with her by his side? Which had earned him a giggle and few kisses as she called him a flirt. Which, really, he wasn't going to deny that because he was flirting, the thought of finally, finally asking her to marry him making him almost giddy. Yes, he was still nervous as hell but this was the forth time he was trying and he'd be damned if he was going to let that stop him again.
Eventually they had arrived on top of a cliff overlooking the forest, the sight rather breathtaking. After a moment of admiration, Poppy was back to taking pictures and talking about nice everything was and Branch nodded and smiled back at her but his mind was elsewhere. He couldn't help as he watched Poppy gush as she was prone to do but to imagine the future, with her walking down the aisle in a gorgeous dress made by the twins, veil fluttering behind her as all their friends and family watched. And then she'd step up to him and exchange vows before they were dubbed husband and wife and he just knew she'd jump into his arms for that kiss as everyone cheered for them. Of course that little daydream soon came to a bursting stop with the next following of events.
There had been a rustling of bushes and before they knew it a deer was jumping out and running off, making both of them jump. Poppy had let out a little squeak and unfortunately for Branch, as he jumped back shocked out of his fantasy, he had gone a little too far and part of the cliff broke from under him, making him off balance and tumbling down to a lower ledge.
“Braaaaanch!!!” Poppy's scream echoed in his ears as he groaned, trying to regain his bearings.
“Branch, are you alright?!” Poppy cried down at him, worry clear in her voice.
“Y-yeah..I'm fi-Aaagggh!!!” Branch groaned, barely having sat up before having to clutch at his arm. Carefully pushing himself up, he pulled his hand away to find it covered in blood and groaned again as he covered his wound back up to stem the bleeding. Great, just fucking great. He was injured. And all because of a stupid deer. At least Poppy was okay. Looking up to check on her, his vision swam briefly and another moan of pain escaped him. Great, he probably had a concussion too.
“Branch! Branch, are you okay?!” Poppy was asking again, having wiggled her way down the steep incline to kneel beside him. She made a noise of distress of seeing him hurt and carefully cupped his jaw in her hands, “Hey. Hey, what can I do to help? Are you hurt anywhere else?!”
“I-I don't...” He hissed as pain pulsed through him, “Don't think so...Might have a concussion though...” He cursed under his breath before telling her to look in his bag for bandages, taking that brief moment of distraction to pat the inside pocket of his vest to make sure the ring was still safe. Which it was, so at least there was that.
Poppy quickly dug into his backpack, finding his first aid kit and pulling out the gauze roll. “Can you move your hand?” She asked softly, cringing at the sight as he did so, “Oh dear...That-That looks really bad....” She sniffed and Branch was about to start comforting her, telling her it probably looked worse than it was but she began to carefully move his sleeve away, causing another hiss to escape him. “Sorry...” She mumbled, wrapping his arm as quickly and gently as she could, sniffing and blinking back tears.
“Hey...” He said, squinting at her because damn his head really hurt, “It's gonna be fine. Please don't cry, Sunshine..”
“I know, I know...I just....that was so scary.” She wiped at her eyes and sniffed again, making Branch want to hold her and comfort her until she calmed down but it hurt to move just about everything. So he did the only thing he could at the moment and carefully brushed his knuckle over her knee, murmuring it was going to okay.
It was about then that someone was calling down to them and they looked up to see a forest ranger had found them. After Poppy explained what happened and that they could use a little help, she quickly finished wrapping his arm up. The next series of events happened rather quickly, at least they did for Branch who's consciousness was starting to go in and out a little and he struggled to stay awake. The ranger had help them off the ledge before helping Poppy carry him back to their camp, where she quickly began to pack everything up. The ranger assured her that he'd keep anything that was left behind and they could come get it later and that getting Branch to a hospital was most important. So then began Poppy's slightly frantic drive to the nearest hospital as Branch had continued his battle with staying awake.
In the end, everything was indeed alright. Branch had to have a good fifteen stitches in his arm and had to stay over night for observation because of the concussion but other than a few other scrapes and bruises, he was fine. But the incident had once again derailed any proposal plans that once he was patched up and allowed a moment alone, Branch had cursed the universe for. Couldn't he have one attempt not go awry?! Yes, sure, there had been other times he could have asked but damn it all, he wanted to do it right! He wanted a romantic scene to ask the love of his life to be his wife and not have it be an off hand mention or after a serious injury!! Was that too much to ask for?! Apparently it was.
So, slumping back into his pillows, Branch stewed and cursed the universe. And eventually started planning attempt number five.
And it had to work, it just had too!
5.
Once it was apparent that Branch was fully healed and recovered about a month later, Poppy suggested another weekend trip to celebrate, though this time it was to the beach. Branch wasn't completely set on the idea, worries of how another proposal attempt could be ruined swarming his head, but once again he really couldn't deny Poppy anything. And she was so excited to go see the sea and enjoy the scenery, ever after he pointed out that the weather wouldn't really be right for any swimming. But ever the optimist, Poppy had said there was lots more to do than just swim and so they made reservations at a hotel and went off for a weekend by the sea.
And as he predicted, the weather had been on the cooler side and slightly overcast but that hadn't stopped Poppy from convincing him to travel around all the shops the little ocean town had to offer. And he had to admit, once again, that she was right. It hadn't been all bad walking along the boardwalk and stopping by whatever little shop or stand caught her attention. Plus her excitement was so genuine and true, Branch couldn't help but eventually relax and have fun too. So they spent the afternoon slipping in and out of various stores, some with pointless, cute nick-knacks, some with clothes and accessories that he and Poppy threw on for selfies or she modeled for him, other with oddities such as seaside myths. They had enjoyed some sea-salt ice-cream at some point before dipping into a little hidden book store and then they stopped for a dinner of fish and chips.
Now they were walking down the beach, hand in hand with Poppy happily swinging their arms between them as the sun sank slowly over the horizon. And Branch had to admit, now would be a pretty good time to try again. They were alone, the few other people on the beach far enough way that they wouldn't somehow get in the way, the setting was calm and relaxing with the sounds of waves gently lapping at the shore as the setting sun painting the sky beautiful pinks and oranges, and Poppy was none the wiser to burning the question that had been lodged in his throat for months now. And nothing was going to stop him now. So, stopping and playfully swinging her around so he could pull her into an embrace, Branch pulled her close for a soft kiss.
When they parted, Poppy giggling lightly as her eyes shone with love, Branch calmly stated, “I love you~”
“Heehee~ I love you too~” Poppy giggled, leaning in for another kiss that Branch was happy to return before the slowly parted once more.
“So there's...something I wanna say...” And ask but he didn't want to give it away just yet. And boy did he hope she didn't notice how his heart had started pumping in his chest. This was it, he finally going to ask Poppy to spend the rest of their lives together and even though this was his fifth attempt, the nerves had returned like it was that first try again.
“I'm all ears, My man~” The pinkette said with a grin, nuzzling her nose against his as she settled her arms around his neck.
Deep breath and ignore the flush that came anytime she called him 'her man', “Well...you see..” Please don't let her notice just how stuttering he was becoming, “You are...the greatest gift I could ask for and I-” And before any more could be said a loud, long horn of a boat sounded, causing both to jump and to look toward the ocean where in the distance a ship could be seen. Huffing, and not about to let one measly horn blast stop him, not this time, Branch tried to continue as Poppy giggled lightly, “Right. As I was saying...” Another deep breath, he could do this, “I love you so much and-” Another three blasts of the horn stopped him again and he glared at the ship as Poppy started to laugh quietly. “Anyway. What I'm trying to say, Poppy, is-” And another long, drawn out horn had him groaning before calling out toward the sea, “Oh come on!!!”
Poppy was now full on laughing, laying her head on his chest as he stewed about the stupid boat, before getting a slight grip on herself. Reaching up, she cupped his face and ran her thumbs over his cheeks, “Branch. Hee~ Branch, it's okay! Let me guess, you have a new poem for me?”
He did but that wasn't what he had been about to say. Still he grumbled, looking off to the side, “Maybe...” He also had a proposal he just couldn't seem to get out before something went wrong.
“Then...~” Poppy started, bringing his face back towards her so she could nuzzle their noses together again, “Why don't we go back to our hotel so you can tell it to me where we won't be interrupted? And then you can tell me all my favorites as you...do other things to me~” She then sealed her offer with a deep kiss. One Branch sank into with a sigh but not without lamenting silently the derailment of yet another proposal. Sure, he supposed he could always try again later that night but something in his gut told him it wouldn't be the right time. He just wanted to propose to Poppy in a romantic setting without anything stopping him! Was that too much to ask for?! Apparently...
“Come on,” Poppy murmured, eyes glazed with want as she pulled away, “We can go take a nice warm bubble bath as you recite your newest piece to me~”
Branch hummed and let her take the lead back to their hotel, still brooding over his latest failure. This was five times now he had been stopped and it was starting to wear down his confidence that he'd ever be able to ask her. Which meant it was probably time to ask for help from her dad and possibly Suki and Smidge if he actually wanted to succeed. Sighing quietly to himself, he squeezed Poppy's hand and hoped that the next attempt would finally be the one.
He could only hope, right?
+1.
Poppy hummed a joyful tune as she walked down the hallway to her apartment, another day of party planning behind her. She still couldn't believe some days that she got to do one of the things she loved most for a living! And she was her own boss! Well...sort of...Sky Toronto was still sort of her boss, sort of her partner but that didn't matter! She got to help people plan out their very best parties! And it was soooo satisfying! Especially after long days like today when her clients had a specific vision they wanted done. Which was fine because everyone deserved to have whatever they wanted to be happy with the party they were throwing but boooy, did it tired her out! But that was fine too because she was now home where her wonderful boyfriend hopefully had dinner waiting for them.
Coming up to their door, and smiling as she always did when she caught sight of their door plaque she'd made, she opened it up, singing proudly, “I'm hooooome~!” Before a fantastically delicious scent hit her nose and she groaned. “Ooooh my goooosh~!” She quickly dropped her purse and came around to the kitchen as her stomach gave a rumble, “That smells amazing! Did you make enchiladas?!”
Branch chuckled, that warm, fond sound that always melted her insides a little as he finished pulling the dish out of the oven, “I did. I even made them...chicken enchiladas like you said you wanted.”
“Yeeeessss~!” Poppy hissed happily, “Yes, yes, yes! I am starving!” She excitedly through her arms around him once his hands were free in a tight hug, “You are the best boyfriend ever!” After pulling him down for a quick, grateful kiss, the pinkette pulled away for a little happy dance. “Oooh, I can't wait to dig in! What else did you make?!”
Another one of those warm, fond chuckles came from the blue-haired hottie she had a claim on and he gestured to the stove, “Some Mexican Rice and..” He led her gaze to the table where some different dips and chips sat, “Some sides.”
“Aaaah~! Yes! Your guacamole is the best!!!” Poppy scurried over and took a chip full of green dip, humming in delight at the tangy taste and did another little happy dance as she stuffed another chip into her mouth. “Gosh! D'ish ish shooo goood~!”
“Do you maybe want a plate full or do you wanna continue dancing in place as you eat over the table?” Branch asked, amusement ringing through his tone.
“Oh, haha!” Poppy responded, hands on her hips, “I can't help it! I told you I am staving! Mrs. Sparks ran me all over town looking for just the right party venue and I barely had time to eat lunch. But I did!” She added quickly knowing he would scold her for not eating lunch. “Anyway, once we finally found the right place, I started throwing out ideas for decorations and food and I think we've got a nice solid base now!”
“Sounds like you a had a busy day.” He grinned as she nodded, stuffing another chip into her mouth, “Also sounds like you might need a margarita.”
“You made margaritas?!” Poppy cried, excitedly, looking at him with wide, happy eyes. Oh, she officially loved this man!!! “Can we have them blended?!” She asked, bouncing happily when he nodded and turned to get the pitcher out of the fridge, telling her to get the blender out. “Yeessss~!” She cheered, already halfway to the cabinet to pull out of the appliance. As she set it out on the counter and watched him place the pitcher on the table before getting in the freezer for ice, the thought that this was her life, that she had such a wonderful, thoughtful and sweet boyfriend by her side made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And that she wanted this for the rest of her life. She wanted to come home after a long day to dinner or even surprise him in return with the same, she wanted long, cuddly movies nights and lazy mornings in spent in bed. She wanted picnics and romantic date nights, days spent at home filled with laughter and singing or the occasional quiet as they both worked on their respective hobbies. Games nights with friends and maybe, just maybe...one day an adorable child that looked like the two of them. Poppy wanted it all with Branch right by her side in every way possible. So without really thinking about she suddenly said, “Marry me.”
“WHAT?!?!” Branch sputtered, pulling out of the freezer with a wide eyed, shocked expression, staring at her like she had lost her mind.
It took a moment for her to actually realize what she'd said but then she was beaming and nodding, bouncing over next to him, because yes, she very much wanted to marry this man, “You heard me! Marry me!!”
Branch stared and kept staring and eventually he hid his face in a hand as the freezer door closed and Poppy was beginning to worry when his shoulders began to shake. At first she thought maybe he was crying but then the quiet chuckling came which soon turned into full blown laughter and he was leaning against the fridge to support himself. Poppy pouted at him and crossed her arms, “I'm serious, Branch! Don't laugh at me!”
He tried and failed to say something a few times, each times getting cut off by more guffaws then before, before he gestured for her to stay where she was and turned to go down the hallway. Poppy was very confused, and a little hurt, that he was laughing because she meant what she'd said but she didn't have time to think much more on it as he came back, still chuckling. Standing in front of her, he finally got a grip on himself and grinned at her, stray snickers still coming and going as he reached out to cup her cheek, “I'm not laughing at you, Sunshine. Promise. I'm laughing because...” He took a deep breath before cupping his hands around something and bringing it into her view, “Because I've been trying to ask you the same thing for months.”
Poppy gasped, hands flying to her mouth, as she saw the small velvet box opened on his palm containing the prettiest ring she'd ever seen. A golden band that held a round, sparkling blue topaz in it's center, flanked by two smaller pink gems, the metal band twisted around them to hold them in place. “Oh Branch...” She sniffed, grinning behind her hands, because of course that was the reasoning behind his sort of off behavior the last few months, before crying, “Yes!”
He smirked at her, blue eyes twinkling, “Pretty sure that's suppose to be my line. You did ask first.”
“Oooooh!!!” She growled, well and truly starting to cry now as she grinned winder than ever before, “Just-Just shut up and put that ring on my finger!!”
“So demanding.” He cooed, smile just as wide and eyes damp as he did just that. Giving her hand a look that said he was finally happy to see that ring on her finger before he brought it up to lay a kiss on it.
Then they were both laughing and Branch was scooping her up and twirling her around, hugging her close. Poppy cried as she laughed, burying her face in his shoulder, the unbelievable feeling that she was engaged coursing through her as Branch spun them around. Soon he stopped and she lifted her face to see he was crying and grinning she as she was and she felt another giggle come before they both leaned in for a kiss. Kissing him with all that she had, they stood there, her in his arms as they moved their mouths against one another's as their tears mingled. Pulling back, both breathless and smiling and so, so happy, Poppy looked into Branch's eyes and chirped, “I love you~!”
“I love you too, Sunshine.” He grinned, the expression lighting up his face like she loved to see, “And I will for the rest of our lives.”
“Good~ Because so will I~” And she pulled him for another celebratory kiss and another and another before they were both laughing and twirling again. And eventually they got to that dinner, now a celebratory one, and made plans to tell everyone the following day but for now...for now they were just going to bask in the haze of excitement and happiness that surrounded them as they looked toward a very happy and bright future together.
~*~*~*~*~RMG*~*~*~*~
Always gotta go full cheese at the ending right? Anyway, this was obviously done a tad differently than I normally do just because I tried to keep within Branch's perspective and then Poppy's when I normally write both in conjecture to each other and it was a bit of a challenge but I'm really happy with how this came out! And I hope you all enjoyed it too!
Until next time!

Reply to @somuchflippinglitter’s commentary of my TWT Branch’s Character Growth Post
Tumblr media
(Did anyone notice how often we see Branch in monochrome in TWT, basically Gray Branch again?)
Hi! @somuchflippinglitter I’m actually happy to see such a long, thoughtful post. You make some good points, and there are other points that, if I may, I’d like to explain my reasoning more clearly. BTW this is a verrry long post that I thought would work better as a separate post rather than a reply to a reply.
The original post (scroll through the comments to see the commentary I’m replying to)
https://dreamsinger-rose.tumblr.com/post/616517422712848384/twt-spoilers-branchs-character-growth
Some of Branch’s actions can be seen as out of character, yes. For me, the main one is how much more mature he seems in some ways, such as not acting as sarcastic as in the first movie, but I have assume that he’s had at least a year of being social and developing meaningful relationships with the other trolls, who no longer regard him as the ‘crazy guy who lives in a bunker and still thinks the bergens are out to get us’, because he did turn out to be right. So he has less reason to be sarcastic, and more reason to care what other people think of him.
Yes, Branch was definitely the “love interest” here. But because he was, he was the one person with the influence to make Poppy listen when it really mattered. Also, I guess you could say it was “rubbed in your face”, but then, he literally told her he loved her in the first movie (which could have been friendship-love). I can see two reasons for Dreamworks to emphasize his love-interest status: to clearly tell the audience he’s IN love with Poppy, and to show he’s grown emotionally-open enough to make the choice to confess to her. This also implies time passing and character growth.
I looked up the symptoms of PTSD and he fit all of them, (in the first movie). But his PTSD wasn’t caused by the singing and dancing that attracted Chef to capture his grandma, it was caused by the trauma of her loss and his subsequent guilt and grief. The ‘not wanting to sing or dance’ was a symptom of his PTSD, not the cause itself.
That’s why after Poppy and the others comforted him and didn’t heap blame on him after he confessed how it was his fault his grandma got killed, Branch’s grief, and especially his guilt (and self-blame) lifted, and right afterward we started to see him healing. His symptoms began to subside. That “happy shout” came after his confession, not before. He was able to sing when Poppy needed it, and that broke the no-sing/no-dance block in his mind, and that helped him heal even more.
I personally have been considering Trolls Holiday canon, and TBGO as an alternate universe, since we know both have wormholes and thus it’s canon, ironically, for there to be other versions of Branch. For example Branch’s bed is vastly different in each. TBGO Branch does have the same basic personality as movie/special Branch but somewhat different experiences.
Either way, Branch’s basic personality to me is someone who is guarded and not very trusting and therefore prone to anxiety when things happen that are outside his control, like how he got all stuttery in Holiday “D-did you say wormhole?” The Trolls to Trolls clips in particular gave me a lot to think about, since he acts a lot less confident in some of them compared to his confidence in the first movie. Totally blew my mind that all Poppy had to do to make him cave in (high-pitched voice/submissive body language) was MENTION his bunker, never mind its location.
It’s true that sexiness is in the eye of the beholder, but actually I have some solid scientific/aesthetic reasons for thinking of Branch as sexy. First, Branch’s character has been designed to look masculine: large nose, mouth, hands, feet. Broad face. Bigger teeth, compared to Poppy. Thick hair, which implies virility, something females unconsciously look for in a mate. Also, rather than letting his hair grow random and kind of ragged like the other male trolls, Branch’s hair is always neatly trimmed, which implies good hygiene, which is also something people find attractive. Whether he’s an animated troll or not, he’s been designed to look very male and therefore appealing to those who like guys.
Tumblr media
Second, I’ve read articles/studies on body language and dance choreography. The “hip sway/push toward us” in particular is characteristic of someone trying to attract a romantic partner. His open arms are seen as inviting/welcoming, which is appealing. Also, him pointing his toes toward someone, biting his lip, and what looks like direct eye contact are also body language that says “he’s into you”. The eye contact in particular will be seen as attractive because it implies confidence, which is universally considered one of THE most attractive traits for either/all sexes.
So my point is it’s not so much that he’s an animated troll, but that a live human who has similar features (big hands, etc) and uses the same body language and eye contact is going to be seen as attractive by a large number of viewers, who will respond on an unconscious level. The outward appearance – blue-green skin, long ears, is not really what we’re responding to as far as attractiveness goes. Thus, to me, an adult female; Branch is sexy.
So, by ‘acting out of character’, did you mean because he was (selfishly) having fun as he danced to the new-to-him Kpop and Reggaetron music? Or do you mean you thought since he left Poppy that meant that he was being selfish and protecting only himself?
You’re right that he cared less about music than other things, although since he was the one who liked Country music and he seemed to understand the Funk troll’s story on a deeper level than Poppy, it was my understanding that he DID care. The reason he seemed out of character is because despite Branch’s love for Poppy, we have to remember his basic, unshakable core characteristic: protection/defense.
In the first movie, he built a bunker to protect himself. He expanded that protection to Poppy and his friends and eventually Bridget, because he came to care about them all. We assume that he’s now friends with much more of the village. (I take his random comment “Ah, what a troll,” when talking about Legsly as support for this.) So now his entire village is under his protection.
He had to make the hard choice to go protect the village when he knew Barb would be heading there (Barb didn’t know Poppy had the string) since Poppy wasn’t doing it. And he couldn’t make her, he could only try to persuade her, which he did. So he was behaving true to himself. He IS loyal to Poppy, but when she essentially abandons her post to go to the Rock trolls’ home, he has to step up and do what he feels is the right thing, no matter how badly he wants to keep Poppy safe. That’s why I think he’ll be a good king, since he put the welfare of his people ahead of his need to stay with Poppy.
Branch didn’t go all untrusting with Hickory because Branch didn’t KNOW Hickory betrayed them. He wasn’t there when the disguise came off.
In your take on Branch and Poppy’s relationship, it’s true that them not having a “good connection” felt a little too convenient after all the relationship-building they’d had over the past year or so. To be fair, if you were writing the movie’s script and you needed some reason for Branch to get motivated to try to confess his feelings for Poppy, what do you think might have been a better scenario?
Me, I liked the high-five because it was symbolic of the progress of the relationship – no contact in the first movie, trying but unable to get a strong connection at the beginning of TWT and a strong connection at the end of TWT. But yeah, not being able to make contact made it sound like their relationship had backtracked instead of progressed, which is out of sync with all the previous progress we’ve seen.
I would have loved to have seen more “vulnerable Branch”. They probably had scenes like that, but had to cut them to keep the movie short enough. It could have been laziness, I suppose. But if there had been more scenes like that, the movie would have been a romance story rather than an adventure, and kids probably wouldn’t have liked it as much. I hope we get to see some cut scenes on the DVD. (Me, I would have liked the movie to be like a half-hour longer and all Broppy scenes, haha).
Thanks for taking the time to give me your beautiful long reply to my post, @somuchflippinglitter You were very respectful :) and I honestly think analyzing a kids’ character is really important since kids learn a lot about the world by what they see on TV. Not so much the fantasy, but the way people relate to one another. Like, Branch could have tried to take Poppy back to the village by force, but he let her make the choice that she thought was right, while he did the same. Each respected the other. And I respect you.

Better Than I Know Myself
While I, admittedly, have enough songs that I believe would best fit Betrothed by @tipolover22 to create a playlist, there’s this one song I am convinced is perfect to describe Branch’s POV when it comes to his marriage to Poppy:
Better Than I Know Myself by Adam Lambert.
This is an analysis on the song written from the fic’s point of view, so it’s gonna be heavy on spoilers. So I’d recommend you read the story before reading this.
If people asked me why I think this song is perfect, I believe breaking down the lyrics is the best way to explain my point.
It starts out like this:
Cold as ice
And more bitter than a December
Winter night
That's how I treated you
Coincidentally, it starts just like the first arc of Betrothed; getting Branch to let go of his bitterness and start warming up to Poppy. This first verse reflects Branch’s train of thought up until chapter 6:
We all know Branch ignored Poppy, belittled her, was rude to her because of superfluous details like their different upbringings (and yes, I do consider that to be superfluous because they already knew about that when they decided to unite both kingdoms) or superficial traits (i.e. Poppy being pink), during the first few chapters he didn’t treat her or view her as his equal! And judging by how this becomes a source of regret and shame to Branch, it doesn’t seem so crazy to believe he would mention this aspect of their relationship in a song meant to express his true feelings for her.
Then, it comes the second verse:
And I know that I
I sometimes tend to lose my temper
And I cross the line
Yeah that's the truth
Now this focuses more on describing an established flaw of Branch’s,  one he doesn’t display solely on Poppy, although she has been on the receiving end as well.
Branch has a relatively short temper. Simple as that.
He’s lost it at Poppy, especially before their breakthrough; he’s lost it at Mulberry whenever his antics went a little too far (like arguing with Arum in chapter 8, or accidentally bringing up Poppy’s refusal to kiss Branch in chapter 16), he’s, understandably, lost it at Creek (in this case it was a righteous anger, considering Creek’s attempts at getting under his skin or trying to steal Poppy from him)...
And as a result of his temper he crosses the line, something he ends up regretting one way or another.
When it comes to the times Poppy’s been at the receiving end of his anger, the most notable example would be, no doubt about it, the mandolin. He threw it away when his mind was too clouded by anger to think things through and he came to regret it immediately, not only because it crushed Poppy and only made matters worse between them, but also because it became something that would be brought up ever since.
As for Creek, whenever Branch’s let his words and actions get under his skin, it’s always had disastrous consequences.
Hadn’t Poppy taken things in stride, destroying the pedestal he built in chapter 10 would’ve made him look like an impatient brute.
In chapter 11 he was so blinded by his hurt and fury he didn’t hear Poppy and Suki approaching just as he punched Creek for taunting him, which led to a very serious argument with Poppy and a whole week of heartbreak for the two.
And, finally, in chapter 19, after finding out Creek tried to kiss Poppy while he was away, he almost killed him. And, as Creek pointed out, had he done it and his marriage with Poppy would forever be tainted by it, since Poppy would never be able to forgive Branch for killing him.
In other words, in this verse he’s acknowledging his flaws and apologising for them.
Now we have the bridge:
I know it gets hard sometimes
But I could never
Leave your side
No matter what I say
Again, if Branch were to sing this to Poppy, he’d be referencing how their marriage is a special case that required a lot of work before they became the power couple we they are today. Because, like all good things, they had to work very hard and compromise to achieve their happiness, but it was more than worth it. However, even if they are in love now, Branch is assuring Poppy that, no matter what, he will always fight for what they have, because he loves her and he can’t go back to living without her.
Which brings us to the chorus:
'Cause if I wanted to go
I would've gone by now but
I really need you near me
To keep my mind off the edge
If I wanted to leave
I would've left by now
But you're the only one that knows me
Better than I know myself
Leaving aside that they were bound to being together for their respective kingdom’s sake, it is true that, if things between them were really as terrible as Branch originally made them out to be, he could’ve just kept on living his life separately from Poppy. But, despite everything, early chapters and later chapters referencing earlier ones show he had actually started warming up to her long before Poppy finally snapped. In chapter 4 he was momentarily cranky because Poppy wasn’t in bed with him, even silently debating whether pink was a good or a bad colour. In chapter 13 we found out he kept and fixed the invitation she made him (reflecting canon) and started working on a new mandolin for her (and since it was never cleared up just when exactly he started working on it, it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to believe it happened even before he fell for her). Not to mention, chapter 17 reveals Branch didn’t burn down the invitation because 1) it was customised for him, and 2) when he looked at it he felt somebody actually cared.
Another thing that proves that no matter how bad things get in their relationship Branch would never want to leave Poppy is chapter 12; as soon as he tries to claim she means nothing to him after she rejected him he berates himself for such a lie; she means the world to him.
The chorus also reflects the special place in Branch’s heart Poppy holds: for a very long time, ever since they became closer, his wife is the only troll Branch allows himself to be vulnerable in front of. One of the best examples would be chapters 20 and 21.
In chapter 20, in contrast to his parents in chapter 12, who had to coax him into opening up about his problems with them; Branch voluntarily opened up to Poppy about Sprite’s situation after bonding together as a little family. In fact, Poppy never tried to force Branch to tell her what was wrong, she just wanted to cheer him up, which then resulted in him lowering his defenses enough to be honest and cry* in front of her. Something similar happened in chapter 21, Branch now trusts Poppy enough to actually let his guard down around her to the point he allows himself to have a panic attack in front of her! Something he hasn’t shown to anyone else! Pre-character development Branch would never!
*It should be noted that, while Branch has cried in front of others before (namely his parents), the amount of times he’s shown his vulnerable side to Poppy easily surpasses this.
The final verse of the chorus is the key: while they still have a long way to go before they can completely see eye to eye, Poppy knows Branch better than most people, even better than his fellow Forest trolls.
There’s also the third verse:
All along
I tried to pretend it didn't matter
If I was alone
This is obviously a part of Prince! Branch’s personality that is entirely faithful to canon Branch, but perhaps it may even be taken up to eleven with the added weight of a royal’s responsibilities on his shoulders.
One of the biggest contrasts between Poppy and Branch in Betrothed is the way they both try to hide their inner struggles from their people; Branch puts on an armor of seriousness and authority thanks to a perpetual scowl and abrasive personality, while Poppy hides her worries behind a positive attitude and a smile.
However, as a result of their different upbringings, Poppy is more prone to asking for help when things become too much for her to handle, unlike Branch, who prefers to deal with things on his own. He pretends to be able to and prefer to handle the responsibilities and burdens of his status all by himself.
Thankfully, an important part of Poppy’s role in their relationship is showing Branch that he is not alone; he has her now and they are a team. As husband and wife they are in this together. Something it’s very clear Branch is very grateful for.
And then there’s the fourth verse:
Deep down I know
If you were gone
For even a day I wouldn't know which way to turn
'Cause I'm lost without you
This verse,  this whole verse is chapter 12. Hands down.
Because Branch admitted several times throughout the chapter that he didn’t know what to do without Poppy. Just remembering what he loved about her was enough to almost have him breaking down in tears, the longer he was away from her, the grumpier he got; heck, he couldn’t even sleep without her in his arms!
And, just like the song says, this was all in one day! One day without his wife and he became a wreck!
Hang in there, fellas! We’re almost done!
Let’s analyse the fifth verse, shall we? I get kind of dark
Let it go too far
I can be obnoxious at times
But try and see my heart
This verse combines the several hints where Branch acted like he doesn’t think he’s good enough for Poppy due to past mistakes (namely, his line, “I don’t deserve you.” from chapter 20), and the details from his past we have yet to see. Because, hey, this is Trolls with a sped up Broppy and a little extra drama, we are bound to see some dark stuff.
And, finally, we have the sixth verse:
'Cause I need you now
So don't let me down
You are the only thing in this world
I would die without
Because Poppy is his everything. Because she’s the one person he’s always needed by his side, even when he didn’t know it. Because she’s the love of his life. And what better way to prove it than sing it to her?
So, yeah. If anyone were to ask me which song I think would best describe Branch and Poppy’s relationship in Betrothed from the former’s point of view,  I’d say, without an inch of a doubt, Better Than I Know Myself by Adam Lambert.

Broppy
When I started shipping it if I did:
The minute I heard Branch say "...And that's why I love you".
My thoughts:
They play off each other so well! They've got that classic fire-and-ice tug of war going on, like where they're always trying to one-up each other in TBGO or arguing like an old married couple at the tunnels in the first movie.
What makes me happy about them:
They really do care about each other, and neither can bear to see the other unhappy.
What makes me sad about them:
They both have a bit of work to do in regards to meeting each other's expectations. Branch has done a pretty good job so far of showing Poppy where she went wrong while still being supportive, but there are times where he takes the support a little too far. On Poppy's end, she really just needs to listen a little better and practice what she preaches (putting herself in someone else's shoes, for example). I do think they'll be able to overcome these challenges in time, though.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me:
I find it mildly annoying that Branch is seen in so many fics (and sometimes even in the show) as completely inexperienced and clumsy when it comes to romance and social activities. While I don't doubt he had a crush on Poppy before the events of the first film, I don't think being grey would have affected his hormones or his appetite, so I like to think he did attend social functions in a non-disastrous way, and had dating experience before Poppy. Plus, he's older than her, so an 18-year-old Branch crushing on a teenage Poppy is...um...blecch.
Things I look for in fanfic:
I love to see them working as a team, and syncing perfectly in whatever they're doing.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
I do like the idea of Poppy x Barb, because I feel like they could learn a lot from each other while still being able to share the challenges of being Queen. I think Branch and Hickory would enjoy swapping notes on stealth, crafting, and man stuff.
My happily ever after for them:
Realizing that loving yourself is just as important as loving your significant other. Singing and dancing when the mood strikes them. Arguing and then making up with lots of hugs and kisses.
Who is the big spoon/little spoon:
They take turns.
What is their favorite non-sexual activity:
Scrapbooking and picnics. Sometimes both at once.

Talent Night
A short broppy oneshot :) Song by Taylor Swift. (And yes, I changed one of the words on purpose to fit the trolls a little better IMO.)
——
Branch applauded along with the rest of the crowd when the troll on stage finished their performance, although he did so with considerably less vigor than Smidge and Biggie, who were ecstatically vibrating in their seats.
“Did you see what they did?!” Smidge shouted.
“The swords? The flames? Those amazing dance moves?” Biggie asked. Branch could’ve sworn he saw stars in the larger troll’s eyes.
“Amazing! It was amazing! Branch, what’d you think?!” Smidge couldn’t contain herself. Her enthusiasm was over-the-top, but amusing nonetheless. He made eye contact with Milton, Smidge’s boyfriend, and the two men smiled over the little troll’s antics.
Milton took hold of Smidge’s hand while Branch replied, “It really was a pretty impressive performance.” The applause finally died down just in time for the entire congregation of trolls to hear Smidge exclaim, “Pretty impressive?! It was magnificent! Astounding! Hypnotic! Action-filled! Dangerous! Daring! Omigod, Branch, it was way beyond pretty impressive!”
A ripple of giggles and laughs washed over the otherwise quiet audience. Branch felt a little self-conscious because of the very public berating he’d just received, but he had to laugh when Smidge clapped her hands over her mouth and sat back down, apparently having realized that she’d just yelled over a quiet crowd.
“Omigod, I’m sorry, Branch,” she said in a low voice.
“No worries, Smidge,” he cheerfully replied.
“Everyone, shhhh,” Biggie said in a dramatic whisper. “It’s Poppy’s turn!”
Branch looked back toward the stage and his brain stopped processing rational thoughts when he caught sight of his princess in the sparkling dress she was wearing. Princess. Queen. Whatever. She was absolutely stunning.
Poppy approached the microphone in front of her in a somewhat subdued fashion, which was very strange for her. Where was her usual energy? That unrivaled and perpetual pep in her step? When she’d asked him to make sure he made it to Talent Night and said she was going to perform, he had pictured a cheerleader-level of spirit and animation (per usual). Was something wrong?
She looked toward the table where Branch, Biggie, Smidge and Milton sat, and flashed them a grin before she started strumming her guitar.
Interesting. She seems happy, but why so... I don’t know... serious?
He continued to ponder that thought for a moment, then realized that she was actually singing and he’d missed the first part of whatever she’d been playing because he was lost in thought.
Oops. Dial it back, Branch. Focus.
He tuned back in, then shook his head and narrowed his eyes into a squint as he tried to make sense of the words she was singing. It took him a couple of seconds, but when she reached the chorus and sent what looked like a somewhat shy smile his way, his hair stood up on end and he felt very suddenly aware of every eye that was slowly turning his way.
Can I go
Where you go?
Can we always
Be this close?
Forever and ever and ah-
Take me out, and take me home
You’re my, my, my, my
Lover
Wait. Hold up. Wait. Was she singing about him? Did he dare to hope? Then again... who else would she be singing about? Unless she’d secretly been spending time with another troll behind his back... Branch shook his head at that thought before it was given a chance to develop any sort of credibility within the paranoid section of his mind and instead listened more closely to the song while he tried to fight off the blush that he could feel was creeping into his cheeks. His heart made pleasant leaps inside his chest.
We can let our friends crash
In the living room
This is our place
We make the call
And I’m highly suspicious
That everyone who sees you wants you
I’ve loved you three summers now, honey
But I want ‘em all
Can I go
Where you go?
Can we always
Be this close?
Forever and ever and ah-
Take me out, and take me home
You’re my, my, my, my
Lover
He stared at Poppy while she sang, utterly speechless. She passed her instrument to Guy Diamond, who seemed to have magically appeared out of nowhere beside her on stage, and started walking toward Branch as she sang the next part. Poppy held constant eye contact with him while singing, and Branch felt goosebumps start to rise along his skin when she finally reached him and took hold of both of his hands.
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand?
With every guitar string scar on my hand
I take this magnetic force of a man to be my
Lover
My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue
All’s well that ends well to end up with you
Swear to be overdramatic and true to my
Lover
She winked at him, and he couldn’t help the enormous grin (and magnificent blush) which broke out across his face in reaction.
And you’ll save
All your silliest jokes for me
And at every table
I’ll save you a seat
Lover
He spun her around and then pulled her close, into a dance, while she finished the rest of her song. She was so warm and soft, and she sang the song so beautifully and earnestly... he was pretty sure he could have lived contentedly in that moment for the rest of his life.
Can I go
Where you go?
Can we always
Be this close?
Forever and ever and ah-
Take me out, and take me home
You’re my, my, my, my...
Oh, you’re my, my, my, my...
Darling, you’re my, my, my, my...
Lover
The song came to an end, and the entire crowd of trolls all seemed to wait with baited breath for something to happen. No one applauded, but when Branch tore his gaze away from Poppy he found every troll staring at the two of them with giant smiles and expectant eyes.
He looked back at Poppy, who simply asked him, “Well? What do you think?”
His brain wasn’t functioning properly. She’d shattered all of his thought processes. At least... that’s what he’d say later. Maybe it’d make his actual response sound less stupid.
“Huh?”
He heard a chorus of stifled snickers and an “omigod” and facepalm from Smidge, but above all that he heard Poppy’s laughter ringing. Her beautiful, delighted, contagious laughter. He grinned at her, and realized later that it was probably an incredibly dopey grin. Whatever. He was caught up in the moment. Can’t blame a troll for enjoying the present! It’s a gift, for crying out loud!
“Branch! I just sang you an entire song about—oh, you know what? Forget it.” She maintained her grip on one of his hands, still grinning, and knelt in front of him. “Branch, you are the troll for me. You give the best hugs, you listen to me rant about whatever I want to rant about, you encourage me to be a better queen and leader, you help everyone around you in whatever capacity you can, and you do your best to keep everyone safe. You are selfless, you’re honest, you’re brave and smart and funny, and you drive me absolutely crazy sometimes, but I love it anyway. I love you. Will you-?”
“No! Poppy! Stop! This is wrong!” He suddenly came to his senses. What was he doing?! He couldn’t let her be the one to ask him-! Not after he’d already been planning to propose tonight! Unacceptable!
...although it was also very reassuring and heart-warming.
Oh no. Wait. Why’s she biting her lip like that? She usually does that when she’s trying not to cry. Is she about to cry?!
His brain screamed at him to “fix it” when a crestfallen expression flitted across her face, and with a quick motion he pulled Poppy to her feet, gave her a brief-yet-hopefully-comforting hug, and then knelt down in front of her instead.
“I’m, uh... I’m nervous,” he began, and another round of snickers made it to Branch’s ears, reminding him that they were not as alone as he’d originally intended. “Poppy...” he trailed off.
Oh, come on. I’ve practiced the words at least a million times by now. Why can’t I just say them to her?
“Cat got your tongue?” Poppy prompted after several long moments of silence.
“Ha ha, very funny,” he replied.
She stuck her own tongue out at him. “I’d be happy to finish my sentence if you’ll let me.”
He shook his head. “No. Now stop talking and let me think.”
She smirked, and he glared at her for interrupting his thoughts for at least the hundredth time that evening.
His distractedness was totally all her fault, of course.
Branch cleared his throat and started over. “Poppy, you have brought me so much happiness. You’ve taught me how to take a step back and relax sometimes. You’ve shown me how to make friends, and how to be a good friend in return. You’ve helped me to really trust again. You’ve shown me that there’s hope for today, tomorrow and all of the rest of the tomorrows, too.
“Your presence is like the sun in what would have otherwise been my cold, dark life-“
“Branch, will you marry me?!” she blurted out, absolutely demolishing his poetic tangent right as it was just about to begin.
“Really?” he responded. “You just had to get there first, didn’t you?”
“I’m sorry,” she said, covering her mouth with her free hand. “I couldn’t help it.” Judging by the way she was starting to bounce up and down on the balls of her feet, she really couldn’t help herself.
“I wanted to ask you,” Branch said. “I had a whole spiel planned and everything-”
“Omigod, Branch!” Smidge yelled. “We’re all dying over here! Just say yes already!”
Poppy laughed at her friend’s outburst, then pulled Branch to his feet and shrugged her shoulders. “What do you say?” she asked. “Marry me? Be my man?”
He chuckled and rolled his eyes at her in a good-natured fashion, then pulled her face toward his so he could plant a kiss on her lips. The crowd oohed and aahed in response.
I really wish we were alone...
He broke apart from her and asked, “Does that answer your question?”
She smiled and pulled him back in for another kiss, which was interrupted by a certain troll shouting, “Will one of you please just say yes already?!”
“Yes!” both Branch and Poppy yelled. He made eye contact with her, and she burst into bright laughter which wound up eliciting a similar reaction from him as well.
This woman would be the death of him.
I’ll die a happy troll.
The rest of the trolls in the crowd cheered and clapped, which turned into a whole lot of whooping and whistling when Poppy again smashed her lips against Branch’s.
“I’m sorry I stole your thunder,” she said to him when they broke apart. He could barely hear her over the din of the crowd, but he could tell that she most certainly was not sorry. Not in the slightest.
Branch shrugged his shoulders. “Oh, no problem. I guess that’s just one less poem you’ll get to hear.”
Her eyebrows drew together in a pout. “Wait... you won’t say it for me? Ever?”
He shrugged again. “I dunno. Guess you’ll have to marry me and find out.”
Poppy poked him in the chest. “Oh, you’re so on. I’m gonna marry you so hard!”
Branch felt his face immediately heat up again. Poppy winked at him and took a turn to shrug her shoulders herself. “I said what I said,” she stated. “Interpret it how you will. Now I’m gonna head over to the stage to get this show back on track. Bye! Love you! See you later!”
He fumbled for words as a hundred images flashed through his brain all at once. “Wait - Poppy!” he called after her, but it was too late; she was already almost at the stage.
He watched as she ran to the microphone and asked everyone to take their seats once more in preparation for the next performer, as what was surely another dopey smile decided to grace his countenance. He found his seat along with everyone else, and wondered if Poppy was planning to come over and sit with him at any point in the near future.
Branch didn’t have to wait long. Within a few minutes, he felt Poppy’s lips softly press against his cheek. When he turned to face her, she pulled up a chair next to his and wove her arm around his, then leaned against his shoulder and sighed.
“I love you,” he quietly muttered to her, in an effort to not draw attention away from the troll who had taken the stage after Poppy.
“I love you more,” she replied, tearing her gaze away from the new performer in order to make eye contact with him.
“I’ve loved you longer,” he countered. She lightheartedly punched him in the arm.
“Yeah, well I’m gonna love you forever,” she vowed.
Branch smiled. “I’ll love you forever, too,” he promised.

-Eternity-
There you go folks, here’s one of the Broppy (Branch x Poppy) One-Shots I wanna write, as I promised. I will write the other prompts that people sent me, no worries. :)
I shamelessly took inspiration from the videogame “Unforgiving - A Northern Hymn” to write this: it’s a game that shows a lot of mythological creatures from the Scandinavian folklore. Really, it’s awesome and I loved it.
Also, thank you @geekgirles for the song you sent me, it helped me during the writing process. uwu
Genre: Angst. tbh, A LOT of angst.
She’d be back.
Deep inside his mind, or what was left of it, he knew that girl would show up again, at the same time every single night. But did time actually exist in that world of pain and damnation? Darkness was all he was, sorrow was all he felt, and screams of horror were all he heard. Everything was so… static.
“P… Pop…” he silently whispered with a cracked tone and tried to remember, the coarse bark that was covering his form glowed red as he tried to move his dead body. Body… but what body? For too many decades now, he was trapped inside that cursed prison, trapped inside that unholy tree while his bones and flesh were still rotting in the mud, between his own roots.
Branch couldn’t recall his past life or his death, he wasn’t even completely sure he was a human, but he could remember her name: “Poppy.”. Her name, her beautiful name that now was flowing in the cold wind like a beautiful music; every night Poppy would happily introduce herself to him, she would remind him her name, and every night she would ask his. Trapped inside a never-ending loop together. If only she’d known the truth… Well, at least Branch could recall something: Poppy named him the first night they met, a decade ago. Maybe even more, it’d been so long.
“You can’t remember your name? That’s sad… but it doesn’t matter, I’ve got one for you!”  the pink haired human gasped in genuine excitement, pointing a finger at the monstrous creature in front of her face. “Branch!”. “Br… Branch?” the tree confusedly repeated, his vermillion orbs blinking for a moment as he spotted Poppy nodding with enthusiasm and clapping her hands with joy. She wasn’t afraid of him or of the other things around? “Yes!” Poppy declared with pride, tilting her head and giving an explanation. “You’re a tree. I think it suits you, right? Don’t you like it?”.
Of course he did. After all those centuries trapped in that frightening nightmare completely alone, he finally had something unique for himself, something to hold on to, something that made him feel different from the other tormented souls stuck inside that forest: an identity.
No matter if he had his real identity and his life ripped from him a long time ago… he was Branch now. Nobody could have changed it or taken it away from him anymore, not even the Skogsrå.
As expected, silent footsteps coming from afar caught Branch’s attention and the unholy tree felt a warm sensation spreading underneath his thick bark as he realized it was finally time to see her. She had made it through again, but to what end? Everything would start all over again.
When her bright magenta eyes locked into his lifeless ones, he quickly reassured the human girl before she could scream in instinctive terror and attract the Skogsrå, like the first night they met. “Don’t be afraid of me.” the dead spirit declared with a weak and cracked whisper, finding it difficult to even talk or move. “I mean you no harm, Poppy.”.
“Who are you? How do you know my name?” Poppy questioned with a rather scared tone, her messy pink hair covering the sides of her face and her right hand holding her left wrist, trying to stop its bleeding. She slowly approached the mysterious tree, putting a safe distance between them. “Are you a spirit?”.
“I’m dead… that’s all I’m allowed to know and say.” Branch struggled to reply and used all his strength to lift his index finger, pointing at open wound she was hiding. The surprised girl followed the direction of his finger and pressed her arm against her chest, conflicted and worried, realizing what the strange creature was looking at. “You’ve been kissed by the Skogsrå, human girl. Her poison will infect your blood system and rot your soul. You will become a monster, an unholy tree… just like me, poor you.”.
“You mean the lady who bit me in the woods? Is she a Skogsrå?” the pink haired girl gasped and stared at the bite mark on her pale skin, noticing black veining around it and perceiving a sharp pain that took her breath away for a second. “Is there a way to stop it? Please, you must help me, I just want to go home and reunite with my dad.” Poppy begged the monster before her, dropping on her knees and sniffing, warm tears streaming down her cheeks.
Branch wanted to tell her the truth, he wanted to say that all her hopes and faith were just a lie, a mere illusion, and that she couldn’t go home because she no longer existed. Because she no longer belonged to the mortal world. Because she was no longer alive. But he couldn’t.
You belong to me! You’re mine, mine, MINE! You will serve me forever!
That damn voice, her voice, echoed in Branch’s mind one more time to control his thoughts and remind him which side he was on… which side he was forced to serve for all eternity. “There’s only… one way.” he faintly murmured, feeling small and blaming himself for the ill-fated destiny she would have faced soon. While her pink eyes were now filled with new hope and joy, his were empty and cold, because he knew he was sending Poppy towards an inevitable end. One of several. “Find the Näcken, the spirit of the lake… the creature who plays the fiddle. He will relieve your pain.”.
The same play book, the same story, the same tragedy every single time. They were just helpless pawns in a greater game, no prospect of freedom but only pain and suffering. This was their eternal punishment.
“He will?” Poppy asked with a confident smile, getting up once again and wiping her tears, hissing a little because of the unpleasant sensation but feeling a lot better than before. Positive, in a word. “The Näcken, the spirit of the lake who plays the fiddle… got it! Thank you! Oh- what’s your name?”.
After a moment of hesitation, the unholy creature quickly replied: “Branch.”.
“Branch…” the young woman repeated and tapped her chin, nibbling her lower lip and shrugging it off. “I like it: it suits a good soul like you, my friend.” Poppy sincerely admitted, ignoring the shrill screams of terror and the terrible noises all around her, the dangers that were getting closer and closer. “I know how terrible it feels to be forgotten, but I’ll remember you. When I get back home, I’ll light a candle for you at the altar every day, I promise!”.
He didn’t immediately respond to that, he knew she couldn’t have kept her word, he knew she wouldn’t have seen her father and family ever again. “Just promise me… something before you go, Poppy.” Branch feebly requested and perceived his force abating, the red glow surrounding his lifeless wood starting to fade, to disappear. “Don’t give up. They might have… taken away our life and our happiness. I might have lost… my hope and will of trying… a long time ago, but… that doesn’t mean you have to do… to do the same.” he rapidly explained and sighed, meeting her puzzled expression but finishing his desperate speech. “Try… and try… and try again. Maybe one day… you’ll make it.”.
“A-alright.” she gently nodded without understanding the real meaning of those words, giving her solemn word. “I promise you, Branch.”.
Branch wasn’t sure if what he said to Poppy was true, if there was indeed a way out of that loop, a way to escape from that never-ending nightmare. For him there wasn’t, and he’d already accepted his fate; there were no more tears left to cry, no more life left in his wooden body and no more weaknesses in his chest to beat: he was truly dead, along with his heart and his humanity.
But that was ok, because at least…
At least he was going to see her again.
The end.
-Exaplanation of the story down below-
Branch was a boy who lived many centuries before Poppy, in the Middle Ages. Despite he had been warned about the spirits of the woods by the other peasants, one day he went deep into the forest to hunt, and that’s when he met a Skogsrå, a guardian of the wildlife. The female-like creature, offended by the young man’s harsh words and knowing his intentions, bit Branch and infected him with her poison. After suffering terrifying atrocities and perceiving his own bones being twisted, Branch died the same night; his bones and flesh sank into the earth, his body turned into an unholy tree and he completely forgot who he was. All he knew was that his soul was rotten and no longer inside of him: he belonged to the Skogsrå, whose voice echoes in his mind, now and forever. Branch died at the age of 26.
Poppy is also dead, but she doesn’t know that and never will: she’s under the control of a vicious water spirit, called Näcken, and every night she finds herself lost in the middle of a forest with no clue how she got there. Her impure spirit is stuck inside a sort of purgatory as a punishment for the sins she has committed during her life, mostly because of her addiction to alcohol and drugs, forced to live her worst nightmare over and over again. In this case, her worst fear is being completely alone and forgotten by her loved ones. Poppy died at the age of 23 in 2007, in a car accident, and she’s been reliving the same nightmare for ten years. Her memory is erased every time she succeeds by the Näcken, so the evil creature can see her suffering again and again, so they can play together for all of eternity.
