So Zo has now told us three stories in the show, one that he was recording, one to Joke and one to Nita. And I am not @respectthepetty to be able to make plot predictions from these shows but I want to look at the kinds of emotional beats we get in each show and what we're seeing in terms of emotional resonance and the weight the stories are giving to different kinds of relationships as well as what they're showing us about the different characters.

The rabbit story is the only one that isn't a legend in general, it's an original story for the show obviously, but that doesn't mean we can't connect the ideas. And we start with, well, the beginning.

With pain. With being trapped. With being isolated and unheard. It's a bright and colorful cartoon but that bunny is still trapped and still hurt and still alone.

And we get the instant connection to the Adonis story. Being alone, being injured, likely crying out... but this time, there is an answer. Aphrodite rushes to him. This is also the story that Zo tells when he's with Joke. He is not alone in a recording studio, he isn't by himself and speaking into the void. He is telling this story to Joke and bringing meaning to this.

The first story is alone and isolated and the answer, the rescue, doesn't come from love. In fact, she barely seems to even notice she rescued him. She simply leaves after she releases him. Which is compared to Aphrodite's failure to rescue Adonis but without any doubt of her love for him.

So we have one story where the boy cries for help and is not heard but is rescued by someone who doesn't really care about him and a story where the person is loved and rushed to the rescue of but the rescue is too late and the love isn't what makes a difference.

This is... y'all. This is isolation and loneliness and that feeling that no one cares about you and, even if they do care about you, it only hurts them in the end. Two stories about being rescued, one successful but from not affection and one failed but from love... It's about whether or not love is worth it, it's about if love can actually save you or just hurts you in the end. Is it worth loving if you won't be rescued by love or is it worth being alone if it means that no one will come when you cry?

Probably a good time to finally bring up the story he read to Nita, right? Nita, who is almost certainly (I believe) meant to be the girl knight in the original story as told by Zo if not by the narrative of the actual show... but the story that he reads her reflects the elements of the original story that are not reflected in the story he reads Joke.

Aphrodite and Adonis is about requited love that is still not enough to rescue someone. The original rabbit story is about falling in one-sided love with someone who saves you. The story of Sunflower Clytie is about unrequited love and pining after someone without hope.

This story reflects many elements of the original rabbit story as well. About not being seen by the person you love, about being ignored by the world, about feelings that don't matter and aren't returned and are too big to put down but that just makes them hurt more.

The idea of staring and watching but doing nothing is so powerful and the fact that both stories end with nothing changing and nothing happening and no love and no romance, just pining and waiting and surviving on nothing but the concept of hope itself, the abstract idea of love.

The three endings. Loneliness, red roses and a sunflower. Two trapped and one lost but meaning something bigger. The boy rabbit and Clytie are both forever trapped by their love, in loneliness and as a sunflower, while Aphrodite lost Adonis but will always symbolize love to the world.

Zo told three stories to us in this show so far. One about loneliness, one about loss and one about being left behind. There's so much there to everything in the show and I'm sure many predictions could be made.

But I'm just thinking about how the only story that included truly returned love was the one he told Joke. That the story he told Nita was about staring after someone so long that you rooted in place, so long that you weren't even looking at them any more because you'd become someone else. And that the story he told that ended only in loneliness was told to a friend who had already fallen asleep.

Zo might have friends and he might have people around him but how lonely is he? How much of himself is behind these stories and his own grumblings and the debate club and the people who know him but don't know about his issues. How many hidden agendas are here and how many are on purpose? Can you have a hidden agenda so secret you've hidden from yourself and forgotten about it entirely?

Look. Zo is obviously a storyteller. He communicates through words and not actions. Everything is about expressing how he feels indirectly, even to himself, through stories and debate and discussion and worries and fears and twisting words until they both do and don't mean what he's saying. And that's why he doesn't hear Joke's hidden agenda. Because Joke's agenda is in his actions and his words are a struggle for him, as we've seen and as is clear in his actions. They're speaking different languages.

This is the only time he ends a story wanting to say more but not saying it. Every other story simply... ends.

Also, the reactions. The first one is just teasing, Joke isn't able to respond to the story because they're not at that point in their friendship at all. This story is Joke saying he'd never leave the person he loves alone long enough to get hurt. And Nita's response is to criticize the story and point out that it hasn't aged well (you know, like his multi-year crush on her that's going away).

I just... it's all so good and so mixed and it's showing how Zo communicates and sees the world as well. It's great. It's beautiful storytelling within storytelling and an amazing way to show us characters.

The real question is becoming... why did the girl knight save the rabbit and was it at the hands of another boy rabbit who's been watching even longer?

The Rabbit Story = Who won the scholarship?!

During the video (that is is being filmed by Joke's younger brother, and Pok's secret boyfriend, Jeng!), Zo mentioned that THREE YEARS AGO, the debate team won a competition where the prize was a study aboard scholarship to Finland. In the rabbit story in the very beginning, Zo mentioned the girl rabbit leaving the boy rabbit to go on a journey around the world.

So who is this rabbit story really about?

Option 1 - Wave and Trin (the past)

Wave is Zo's senior. Pat stated Wave adored Zo, so they both expected Wave to easily give into Zo's request, yet Wave was adamant that Joke NOT join the debate team, and it seemed to balance on the fact that Joke is from Public Administration. Also, Wave didn't finish his statement about why Joke wanted to join the club. He said "does he want to join to improve himself or . . ."

Trin is Joke's senior, and he immediately asked if Zo was Wave's mentee.

Then, he told Joke to be wary of them.

Were Trin and Wave close, only for Wave to leave on his study abroad and things fell apart? Did Trin perhaps join the debate team at one point with ulterior motives, and that's why Wave doesn't trust Joke?! Do Trin and Wave see history repeating because they were Zo and Joke?

Option 2 - Nita and Zo (the present)

Because Zo refers to the rabbits by gender, this seems the most obvious. And the debate team is the tribe.

The core group should be juniors, no? They all met during freshmen year. But when did Nita join the debate club? She did it after the recruitment process ended, so did she join her freshman year? And is that why Zo couldn't give Joke an answer of why he joined the club? Because he joined to get closer to Nita! Or was Zo already a member when Nita joined?

Nita was dating Joke, but they broke up.

So did Nita win this scholarship? Did she study abroad, and the rabbit story is obviously about Zo declaring his love for Nita.

Option 3 - Joke and Zo (the future)

Zo hasn't won the scholarship . . . yet.

But he really wants to.

It seems unlikely that Zo won the scholarship their freshman year, but the beginning of the rabbit story where Zo talks about the boy rabbit being stuck in a trap until the girl rabbit rescues him sounds very similar to the reason there was bad blood between Zo and Joke their freshman year - Zo offered himself up in the freshy competition in Joke's place.

Following the rabbit story, Zo is the girl rabbit and Joke is the boy rabbit with his foot stuck in the trap (freshy competition). Joke fell for Zo then, but has been pining after him for years. Now, they will meet again as Joke becomes a member of the tribe (the debate team). However, Zo wants Nita, and I think Zo will get Nita. The rabbit story had the girl rabbit being in a relationship and then breaking up with that person before going on her journey around the world. Will Zo get Nita, win the competition, break up with Nita because his feelings are conflicted, and run away to Finland on the scholarship leaving Joke alone with his feelings?

The trailer showed us that Joke confesses at some point, but is that confession all part of the role-playing that Joke is using as a guise to get closer to Zo?

So . . .

I want SO VERY BADLY for Hidden Agenda to pull a twist/uno reverse card and reveal that Zo is actually aware of Joke’s feelings, and has been playing 4D chess in order to get Joke to actually confess. Because Zo’s level of obliviousness doesn’t really make sense, once you start thinking about it.

Zo isn’t stupid. He’s on the debate team, and he’s good at it. He runs a podcast. He lets his friends copy his homework, he enjoys spending time in the library. Of course, academic smarts and emotional smarts aren’t the same thing. It could be argued that he’s too busy trying to find hidden meaning in Joke’s flirting to notice, y’know, the flirting.

But he doesn’t really put up a fight to any of Joke’s “lessons.” Beyond LITERALLY fighting him in ep 1, that is. And even that scene could be taken in a different context. Zo’s under the impression that Joke might be trying to get back with Nita, but what if he’s jealous in the opposite way? What if he punches Joke for possibly giving up on his crush on Zo without ever even confessing, so he drinks too much, punches him, then immediately feels bad about it.

Other than that scene, he goes along with all of Joke’s shenanigans pretty happily. He barely even blinks when Joke, who previously said he’d pretend to be Nita on their date, takes it back and tells Zo that he’s going on a date with him, not Nita.

During the serenade confession-but-not in the bar, Zo’s enthusiastic support of the song could be taken as him saying, “Yes, good, exactly! Now actually TELL me this instead of singing it and pretending it’s not for me.” And when Joke doesn’t, he just straight up asks him who he likes.

You may wonder, “okay, but how would the gay panic bathroom scene fit, if it’s not what it looks like?” I raise you: Zo may be aware of Joke’s crush, but Joke says, “I would never leave the person I love to face danger alone.” So this moment of panic could be interpreted as Zo previously not knowing just how strongly Joke felt about him, and perhaps feeling guilty about his own “hidden agenda.” Or even just freaking out because “oh my god he LOVES me?!?”

The sunflower story also makes sense if it’s framing Joke as Clytie, pining after Zo but never actually saying anything. And when Nita says that it would be smarter for Clytie to move on, he once again feels guilty for concocting a whole plan to make Joke confess, instead of just talking to him about it outright.

I’m probably a clown for this, but I seriously can’t stop thinking about it.

I've seen that you ship Namor/Dorma. Could you please explain their relationship and dynamic. I've only seen them in some early Kirby/Lee Fantastic Four. Could you also please do the same with his other love interests like Marrina Smallwood. Thanks.

Canonically Namor's only had three major love interests; Betty Dean, Lady Dorma, and Marrina Smallwood. (I'm just counting actual on page relationships, not short romance flings or flirting moments).

Namor/Dorma is my canon endgame. (art by @pointdotiozao )

(If Marvel ever brings her back in the comics then I want it all, Atlantean Wedding, Emperor Namor/Empress Dorma, them having kids, everything.)

Dorma and Namor grew up in the Atlantean Court together and she was one of his few friends.

Dorma is such a great character, she's high maintenance and very confident (like Namor, lol), dramatic, loyal, with a deep love for Namor and for the Atlantean people. She's very beloved and respected by the Atlanteans and she was Namor's greatest true love. Namor literally chooses to save Dorma's life over finishing his quest to finding Neptune's Trident and regaining his birthright as Prince. He gave up his chance to be ruler of Atlantis once more for Dorma.

Dorma was always there to save Namor's life, she loved Namor deeply and even died to save him from Empress Llyra. Here's a reading guide for Lady Dorma if you want to read up on her. I know she's a very jealous and possessive person when writers have other women around Namor but honestly I see Dorma as this old school glamorous hollywood diva, she's very fierce and always believes in and supports Namor and her goal is the safety and care of her people and her Prince. She was Namor's first wife, and he's often shown to have a deep grief over losing her, often remembering her.

Dorma and Namor had a very dramatic relationship with Dorma pining over Namor alot in the beginning until he began to court her and returned affection, they were deeply in love.

Marrina Smallwood was Namor's second wife, and Namor fell in love with her after he invited her to spend some time in Atlantis with him following her rescue. I'm very fond of Marrina, and theirs was a very gentle love, soft and joyful. (Namor hadn’t fallen for anyone since after Dorma, he had tried to move on once with Valkyrie but he was still grieving over the loss of Dorma at that point.)

The Avengers/Alpha Flight Namor/Marrina arc is:

Alpha Flight (1983) #3-4, 12, 14-16, 35-40 Avengers (963) #262-270, 272, 282-293

Even though Marrina would slowly turn monstrous, Namor would never abandon her, and would try to help her. He loved her so much!!!

I find their romance so sweet but also very sad with how it ended. It also has one of my all time favorite Namor lines “Woe to love that it should demand such a price. For surely I must now cut out my living heart!”

Betty Dean was Namor’s first surface world friend, later lover. I love Betty Dean, she is also a wonderful character! She’s very feisty and never let’s Namor get away with anything, lol, but also she loved Namor very much.

The first time she met Namor she put a gun to his head and was ready to shoot him if he didn’t listen to her! She was a cop sent out to stop Namor. lol.

Betty was very influential in getting Namor to see that not all humans were bad, and their friendship continued even after decades. I’d say read Marvels Snapshots: Sub-Mariner for a recent look at their relationship as it was, or even read Sub-Mariner Comics 70th Anniversary comic, I don’t have a Namor/Betty reading list since her appearances are mostly golden age and some silver age with a pop up here and there in the modern age.

She would later reconnect with Namor when she was older and she becomes the adopted mother of Namor’s cousin, Nita.

Namor loved them all deeply and each loss hurt him, each one had a different dynamic but I love them.

I assume this is a Skwiscaj question, and don't ever apologize for asking why I do what I do in my comics, friendo. It never comes off as someone else steering the ship. So to the point, yes, she is. I said on my Discord the other day that I think Skwisgaar may be pining for a version of Caj that no longe exists, and she too is totally head over heels for her new wife, but they definitely care for each other. Plus all those kids they have together. Plus she's kinda bound on a celestial level to make sure no real harm comes to him now, and all that...

As always, just because I don't pair anyone up with the canon cast in a definitive way in my stories, doesn't mean you guys can't come up with this stuff for yourselves. You'll always have my blessing to write that fanfiction or whatever you wanna do. :) Thank you for taking the time to ask your question!

love triangles aren’t exactly my area of expertise because im not particularly fond of this trope, although like you said this isn’t exactly a triangle, it’s more like.. a u-turn at an intersection? okay that’s not the best metaphor ;;;;;;;; but if i understood what you mean correctly, i do think there are actually a couple more examples of this kind of premise, where character A is in an unrequited love with character B at the beginning of the story and then ends up with character C who has liked them since the beginning

here’s what comes to mind!!!!

be my favorite. at 30 years old, kawi’s life is not how he wanted it to be: his job as a translator doesn’t bring him any satisfaction, his dad has passed away due to illness, and the girl of his dreams is about to marry another guy, pisaeng. a magical crystal ball gives kawi the chance to go back in time and set things right, but the more he tries to fix the past, the more he messes up the future, starting from pisaeng’s feelings.

fish upon the sky. pi is a nerdy and lonely social outcast who grows smitten with the handsome, popular guy at school, muang nan. pi undergoes a makeover to change his appearance, in hopes of making himself more desirable to his unattainable crush, but his attempts to confess his love are always interrupted by mork, muang nan’s best friend. pi believes it's because mork also has feelings for nan, but the truth is actually very different.

hidden agenda. zo has been harboring a secret crush on nita and to pursue her he decides to ask her ex, joke, to give him dating advices. he’s unaware, however, that joke has an ulterior motive for agreeing to help him, and as the two spend more time together and joke joins the debate team, zo’s feelings slowly start to change.

these three are honestly the ones i think fit best with what you’re looking for, but i’d also say

kiseki: dear to me. exclusively for the side pairing. at the beginning of the show chen yi is kinda pining after their boss but ends up with ai di.

last twilight. sort of? like there’s so much more going on in the show but day having an unrequited crush on august before getting with mork is one of the major plot points in the story, however brief it was.

i feel like there must be more shows with this dynamic but as much as i rack my brain and look at MDL i can’t come up with anything else ;;;;;;;;

Okay, so I've been sitting on this for quite some time. I'm either forgetting or remembering at the worst of times. Anyways,

Disclaimer: For this i had to rewatch the episodes, but it was more of a skim through, so i don't go into much detail. Also, there may be some unintentional spoilers but they'll be very minor. Still, i thought it best to warn ya'll.

Classic enemies to friends (to lovers) trope that Thailand loves so much. There's also a love triangle (which loses an edge pretty quickly).

Ok, I had some clown theories to check about hidden agenda. So I went and watched the trailer once again. This might be obvious to some, but I need to share it...

The story about the sunflower is about Zo and Joke and NOT about Nita!

Zo is the sun.

Joke is the sunflower.

Nita is the other woman.

The story is Joke's perspective. Joke is Clytie.

Nita can't be the sunflower. She doesn't pine, she moves on (maybe like she moved on from Joke once she realized he's into someone else?). Joke however, will forever look up at the sun that is Zo, waiting for his moment to be noticed.

I think that Zo is going to go inside his own head about Joke and Nita not being done yet and Joke is going to have to prove that it's the other way around.

So, yeah. I'm gonna go outside for a bit now...

😅 - Did anyone ever mistake you two for a couple? How did you both react?

I imagine we got mistaken for a couple a few times on our way to Buenos Aires! Since Adair insisted I do not leave his sight the entire way there, I imagine he simply looked like a protective boyfriend at the time. Which, he wasn’t my boyfriend… yet. I imagine before I would get embarrassed and set the record straight, though, Adair would lean into it and just tell people we were dating. He’d say it was better as a cover story, buuut… he just liked being seen as my boyfriend.

🫂 - What’s one significant moment of physical contact you had during the pining stage?

Probably when I finally reached out and touched him of my own accord! For reasons, my s/i was/is very uncomfortable touching others unless they’re SUPER close with that person, and Adair never crossed that boundary. So, I imagine the first time that I allow myself to reach out and even casually touch him (grabbing his hand in conversation), it’s significant to both of us.

😳 - What moment flustered them the most?

Honestly, with Adair, it’s hard to say. I want to say it was probably when I was casually offering him my limbs after Nita’s murder attempt, though. He knows it came from a good place, but he’d never really had anyone extend him that amount of trust before. So, I imagine it caught him more than a little off guard!

🎵 - Are there any songs that describe your pining stage?

GOD. I’ve been wanting to create an Adair playlist but get stuck on certain song selections. But if I had to pick one… it’s definitely Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.

I really am trying to figure out why both stories we've been told so far have been about grievous injuries and either being able to be rescued or failing to be rescued... but both of them are about physical danger and physical injury and the loved one being hurt and either being saved but then left or not able to be saved and being mourned instead.

Both are stories of romance but romance that has a lot of danger inherent and that includes loss and separation despite wanting to be with them during them the danger they might face.

The rabbit was saved from danger by someone he loved but lost them to other people even after he healed. And Adonis was hurt when he was apart from Aphordite and so she lost him to a danger she could have saved him from if she'd been there.

And the last story we get is about someone pining away until their death because she loved someone who didn't love her back... but that story doesn't get any emotional response and leaves both people cold.

Pining away without speaking is not romantic in this context because her waiting around is what lead to her death. Apollo left her behind and she did nothing and so she lost not just their love but her life and she became a flower but she was not romantic, not to them.

It's honestly fascinating to see the connections between the stories and the reactions they go. The rabbits at the start about injuries and care and pain and loneliness and pining and with Zo reading with such emotion to the story about being apart and so getting injured that got a strong reaction from Joke and going back to that idea of pining from a distance and getting no reaction from Nita but dismissal.
