Everyone trying to keep up the surprise of Krom's return after the cat is already out of the bag. that was so unnecessary. poor Fueang, must have been a roller-coaster of a ten minutes x)
We got a family diner with both Krom and Fueang's families. it went great. Krom parents were saying how much they'll love having Fueang as a son-in-law before any proposal was made. (do you think he asked them before proposing? they are clearly up to keeping secrets and helping organize surprises so). Fueang's mother said that "He crafted all of his grace by himself" and had me tearing up. wasn't expecting her to end up so supportive, i'm so happy.
We got two (2!) proposals! and both made me emotional <3 Props to Fueang for the misdirection and the smoothness, I was expecting the ring to be in the watermelon too.
We got Fueang saying on life television that fans can become toxic really quick when their idols aren't perfect. Good for him.
We got Fueang and Krom reunion! He was so happy Krom was back <3. Also Kor getting everyone out of the house and reminding them to lock the door was peak best friend.
I love Kor and Fueang's relationship so much in general. The mutual support. The teasing. Fueang being actively involved in Kor's proposal. The "thank you for being at my side". The hug. The playfulness. I love these two so, so much. My beloved.
I made my choice! I think you're going to like You're My Sky and I agree with @plantsarepeopletoo about GHGH for you. Aaaand as I've been struggling with DBK for the past few weeks (not to say months 🤫) I wouldn't suggest going that way for your 100th show.
Also, CONGRATS! 🥳
💜
Ok I have realized I am about 9 shows away from getting to 100 BLs/QLs. I already have 7 shows, which are really fully aired and i have may be paused them at 1-2 eps left for completion. I can aim to get through those over the next 1-2 weeks.
From everything that's currently airing, City of Stars will finish next week and bring my count to a 99. What should be the show that finally gets me over that 100 number?
For context, I try to watch almost everything Japan puts out, with a few exceptions. I have also gone through some of the older Japanese stuff like the Novelist, Mood Indigo, Ossan's Love, etc.
I have seen all the "best" ones out of Korea and Thailand in 2022 & and 2023, and the vast majority of the gmmtv BL catalog.
I have seen around 7-8 Taiwanese BLs but have not been a hardcore fan of any so far - Unknown is getting close to changing that.
I completely agree! Achi crosses that line immediately when they reunite because he wants to make his intentions VERY clear.
He's had time to figure out what happened between them (and he even tells Ji that he was a coward). He admits to that holding back, and the kiss is his way of declaring that he has intentions and they are romantic. Like letting Ji know that it's different now.
I need to talk about To Be Continued, kissing, and emotional expression.
Let's start with the scene
This One.
Now I am not a queer teenage boy, but that lack of kissing in this scene strikes me as incredibly intentional and poetic. Now in case you're thinking there was definitely kissing I am specifically talking about mouth to mouth kissing, and you're right, there was one single brief kiss, right at the end of the scene.
But we got from here
to here
without so much as a brush of the lips.
And A to B took a while I mean...
there were many steps involved.
Now, why this felt incredibly poetic to me is that kissing is often used on TV to signal an outpouring of emotion. Characters use it to express themselves when words are beyond them.
And teenage Achi and Ji Do Not Do this.
They are both holding so tight onto the line they are terrified of crossing, of the person they are terrrified of loosing, that they can't bear to risk crossing this last emotional boundary.
They get right up to the line again,
and again
and again
and AGAIN
In all of these shots the camera either switches to a different moment or one of them actively breaks from staring to kiss a shoulder or neck instead.
They only cross it very briefly, losing sight of the line for just a moment.
It's interesting that this line is the one they drew between then throughout this encounter.
Interesting as this is the barrier Achi tried to break so early in their reunion in Episode 2.
Interesting that this is the line they could not hold themselves back from crossing
I know many of you have been struggling with the way this story is being told, but to me this writing is utterly compelling. The story of the past and present being unveiled side by side. The parallels, poetry, foreshadowing and flashbacks working together to tell a story in 2 parts, simultaneously. I love it.
And this ep, and this scene were just another example of how this show is intentional in every choice and every moment of the stories being told.
I ALWAYS skip the Oishi dance scene. It's too much for me 😅
My reactions while rewatching Bad Buddy, by episode. I am up to episode 9 for now.
(For context, it's been almost exactly a year since I first saw it and the only episode i have rewatched in this time, was ep 5)
Ep 1 -
Oh I forgot how insufferable I find the fighting in this.
Ooh there's a P'Aof cameo in Ep 1!! (The least fun of all his cameos, if you ask me)
This is so cute when they're not forced to fight each other.
Eps 2 & 3
Wait, Dunk is in this? What's Dunk doing here?
They are so cute, what if I die?
The HANDssss in this show are immaculate, how did I forget how perfect the HANDssss in this show are.
In the hallway guitar scene, Ohm is tearing up a bit. The micro acting choices at play in this show are immaculate.
Ep 4
I forgot how much product placement is in here. Nivea micellar, my beloved!
Satanggggg??? What are you doing here???
This is hilarious because MSP references Bad Buddy by name. Now I know they aren't serious about it because Mark Pakin literally directly reference his own Bad Buddy character in MSP and there's at least 3 other overlapping cast members between the two. But I just giggle at the thought that Sound went to high school with Pat and Pran, took a little break, and then transferred to high school with Tinn and Gun. (Don't ask me to think too hard about Gemini, Fourth and Ford's cameo, which I know is coming in a later episode. It will completely shatter my brain)
I hate the scene where Pat admits his feelings for Ink, while Pran is secretly crying, but heartbreak feels good in a place like this..
Episode 5
This episode is perfect. P'Aof must be so proud.
When Pat first confronts Pran and Wai in front of the condo, Pran is the one who attacks him first. Pat is actually about to either hug him or kiss him or something, before Pran throws him off.. what was Pat gonna do, if he wasn't interrupted??? I need to know!!!
(I noticed this in my first watch as well, but on a rewatch I was just hyperfocused on how Pat actually looks down on Pran's lips for a few seconds..)
Episode 6
Pat is so brave for constantly walking into enemy territory, knowing full well that he can be beaten up at any point.
SEAweeeeeedddd chips flirting was unhinged, but it was perfect.
Episode 7
Their mutual flirting era can potentially kill me
HANDSsssssssssss
I started crying at this line - If my victory puts my boyfriend in trouble, then I'd rather lose. Pat is my boy!!!!!
Episode 8
Pat, Pran are finally in their boyfriend era, and I couldn't be happier.
Oh no, they have to keep hiding at all times, this must be exhausting
Fuckkkkkkkkkk Waiiiiiiiii
Episode 9
I can't believe how entitled Wai is about all of this.
I cringed at the Oishi dance, but not as hard as P'Aof did during the Soonvijarn reaction. From what I know, there was no script for that Oishi scene. Ohm and Nanon really do have such natural charm.
The HAnDsssssss
Robert????? What are you doing here?
(I do not know this actor's name, so we will be referring to him by his IFYLITA character name today)
Not only is Robert here, Robert shot Pat??? And yes, Pat got shot.
Pat getting shot remains as bizzare and random as my first watch. Is this just a West Side Story reference? Is this something else? Ok, moving onnnn.
Anyway, enough for today. More ramblings to follow tomorrow.

City of Stars is starting to drive me a little crazy…anyone else??
Okay so I have no idea how many people are watching this show but this weeks ep (#6) cemented for me that this show is intentionally playing with us, the BL audience, and our expectations of BL.
We have been presented and consistently shown mature, down to earth characters who express their emotions, communicate, help each other, mess with each other, and basically act like rational adults.
And yet this week for a full 2 minutes, I fully believed Krom had taken one look at the strange man in Fueangs bedroom and run straight back home with his mother’s caution echoing inside his head.
But he didn’t and Feaung explained and later we even got Krom being UP FRONT about his insecurities!!
I felt a bit like a new faen being put through trust exercises by my too good to be a true lover.
This was the most extreme example but it’s done it in a ton of other ways too, just in this ep we had things including
Ooops sent the wrong clip, will the friends explode and ruin the relationship
Will Feaung be mad that the friends know
Oh the parents know, now what??
Unequal understanding of the date! Now what?
You know how many of these caused explosions? NONE
Last week we had “Feungs big secret” as a driving force for concern but the show turned that on it’s head too!
And it did it by making fun of everyone being able to sing
This show is picking up the BL tropes, the BL mold and showing it to us like: THIS? This is what you’ve been dealing with in the past? And don’t get me wrong, I have a spreadsheet that just hit 165 BLs to very much prove I like the model.
But this show
This show is taking a trope and making it real,
or making fun of it,
or both.
Have I lost you?
That guitar scene at the end was a great example, Thai BL boys seem to take guitars wherever they go and pull them out at the drop of a hat. This show:
Made fun of that trope by making Fueang bad at singing
Added depth to that trope by making it a result of childhood trauma
Threw in some communication
And voila a guitar scene that was an emotional HIGH, regardless of your opinion on singing.
This show is saying TRUST ME, we aren’t going to steer you off a cliff,
(even as it laughingly might grab you by the shoulders and push-pull you at the edge just to see you panic for a moment lol)
I am having a very good time with it, I have no idea how we’re going to pan out, and given the reoccurring fakeouts I am now highly suspicious of it’s intro scene in ep 1. But I am seriously starting to trust this show. I feel like I can take my hands of the rails throw them in the air and enjoy the ride
Anyone coming?
(Don't get me wrong, the tropes are stil everywhere)
Do you kids know how hard it is to hyper fixate on shit as a goddamn adult?? Sorry boss I know you need those files done but I’m too busy giggling like a goddamn school girl over a fictional man
