Episode five is insane because Pat has all of like 3 days to process his real feelings for Pran. And then the second he gets the chance to express them he can't hold back. He can't use words for the indescribable thing that has grown to the size of a mini sun inside his chest and its gravity, its weight, just needs to break loose. He definitely doesn't even think "what if Pran doesn't feel the same?" All he knows before that moment is that whatever is going on between them has been building and building and putting pressure on them for ages, and maybe what he saw from Pran in the music shop was real.

Imagine being Pat, being reckless, and kissing Pran because god he cannot help kissing Pran, and then Pran kisses him back. He kisses back and with FORCE. Two ocean currents meeting and forging a new direction entirely. Pat's smile afterward is so much because he feels like he's just unlocked the biggest achievement. He is finally seeing past the cool exterior and lo and behold it's been longing for him this whole time!

And then crashing from that high as Pran pulls himself away and gives him the most broken pair of eyes yet, and then walks off the rooftop without a word. And as we watch, we are all crashing with Pat, feeling something akin to a dagger between the ribs because there is so much left unresolved.

God I love this show.

Rewatching Bad Buddy and I love how implicitly Pran's sexuality is stated from the beginning. His friends don't hesitate when his "secret admirer" is thought to be a man. In fact, Wai sounded a little surprised when he suggested that Pran might be upset that the person was a man. All of this indicates that Pran has been open with his sexuality to his friends.

Because we know from the hot pot scene (and Pran's long term crush on Pat) that Pran himself has never questioned his sexuality.

This approach is refreshing and honestly unsurprising at the hands of P'Aof.

From a wip that I’ve been struggling with (I’m just struggling in general with writing what the fuck is happening 😭😭😭😭)

Almost on cue, the door to the restaurant swings open and Pran walks in, followed by a besotted looking Pat. The two are holding hands and even as they walk in and Pran heads to the maitre’d, Pat swings their entwined fingers like a high-schooler in love.

Seated in a way that the front door is visible but provides ample cover for any return snooping, the four men are treated to the disgusting display of true love and promptly groan, Mo even going so far as to forget decorum and give in to the urge of thumping his head onto the table.

“Holy shit, how on earth did we miss that? He looks like he’s walking on clouds.”

“We really were fucking idiots,” Louis agrees with a sigh, licking his fingers free of peanut sauce and trying not to look at Mo as he does. “All right, do we give them four looks of disappointment for hiding the truth or do we pretend to be shocked to see them together?”

Bad Buddy and its aftereffects

Disclaimer: this is just going to be a word vomit. Something I had been meaning to do since ages but being down with flu finally gave me the time and mindspace to do it.

My first tryst with Thai BLs started with Love By Chance and I tried.. I really tried.. but the script.. the acting were just not clicking with me.

Then came the wave of 2gether the series and that was much better.. I was at least able to complete watching the first season even though I didnt get the hype around it.. It was my second time giving up..

My third effort was ITSAY and gosh what a show that was.. I was recommending it to anyone who would listen to me gush about Billkin and PP and the director. The show was heavy on my heart.. I needed to brace myself every time I wanted to rewatch it.. I guess I have rewatched it 3 or 4 times in all these years.. It just is that emotionally heavy show for me.

But the music.. Gosh the music.. the songs.. Billkin's voice.. When I tell u Skyline and untold answer were on repeat.. Specially untold answer.. I still listen to it..

Despite my love for ITSAY and my tolerance for IPYTM.. I again took a break from Thai BLs.. and BLs in general..

Throwback to exactly 1 year back.. When I rediscovered thai BLs... let me be specific.. I discovered Bad Buddy..

My first watch.. awesome.. loved it.. listened to the songs a bit..

my bestie then suggested me Not me.. kinnporsche.. eclipse.. liked them all.. and I thought thats it..

But then I rewatched Bad Buddy.. and rewatched it the next time.. and the next.. I was literally rewatching those 12 episodes almost till April and May of this year.. for almost 6 months.. I didnt consume bad buddy.. bad buddy consumed me..

I was watching MSP and never let me go and other BLs too.. but an episode of bad buddy everyday became a need.. and this perplexed me.. I kept on having conversations with my bestie about my obsession with Bad Buddy. This level of obsession.. where I was crying listening to the BGM.. crying over a 3 min trailer.. after watching the show multiple times.. had never happened to me ever..

And apart from all this.. bad buddy was responsible for a couple of firsts for me.. first time joined tumblr.. for bad buddy.. explored ao3 and read way too many pat pran fanfics.. and also made me explore Thai music.. and my spotify wrapped is the proof.. its full of thai songs.. Bad buddy instrumental BGM.. is in my top songs..

I guess the obsession was a consequence of my failed past relationship.. which finally ended right around the time I discovered Bad buddy.. where things were very similar.. I used to call him soulmate.. but family issues made us break up after 10 yrs.. Every time I rewatch ep 11.. where Pat says to Pran that you dont leave me and fight alongside me.. I cry buckets over this one scene.. coz I didnt have anyone to fight alongside me.. may be its that.. may be it was the characters.. may be it was the magic created by p'aof.. but somewhere.. something struck such a cord that the show still has the ability to bring out emotions that I didn't know existed.. I always describe it as emotions bubbling and trying hard to break the wall and spill all over.. thats what I feel.. and sometimes they spill over.. and m left a crying mess.. No other show has made me feel this way.. No other form of media has made me feel this way.

Is the obsession still there? Not as much.. I still love a good patpran fanfic.. My top song is Just friends by Nanon which I listen to this day.. I still cry over the instrumental BGM.. But I no longer have to watch bad buddy every single day..

I dont know how much bad buddy has helped me overcome my past.. but I know its still a safe space I can visit when things get tough.. Funny how a random piece of media can have such an important share in your life.. A random show on the internet can heal you more than the living people around you.

Now that I have talked about it so much.. I may as well watch ep 6 (3/4).. fyi.. that beach scene is my fav..

P.S.. I know there would be typos and errors but I am not going to read it all back else I will not have the courage to post this.

I'm behind on the Bad Buddy rewatch and catching up currently but omg episode 6 just solidifies PatPran in such a wonderful way. They don't know how good they're gonna have it. One thing is extremely important, though, and I think it's what makes their relationship so exemplary:

Pat and Pran have their own language

Obviously they don't have any specific lingo they speak to each other that contains any hidden messages. But as many have pointed out that their level of communication is not only extremely healthy but one of the keys of success in eventually making them a wonderful couple, I think the phrase "you speak my language" is something that applies heavily here. It only takes some time for them to realize what that language is, and for them it's all about what's actually not being said.

Pat and Pran grew up not being allowed to voice things directly when it comes to how they truly think and feel about each other. Not around family, friends, teachers, on occasion they don't dare it admit to themselves, and especially not to each other. Saying something direct is like touching something radioactive, practically. Even when Pat was confessing how he felt on the rooftop before the kiss, he doesn't come out with "I like you." Pran has to ask if he wants to be friends and he replies no - and everyone present (characters and audience) can understand what that really means.

Going into episode 6 it's easy to understand why there's a struggle: Pran isn't saying anything and Pat is begging to know what's on his mind. Because even though their form of communication is about what's not being said, Pat still needs words. He can get the riddle but only if he's given one. They have to rely on physical cues or talking through someone else to send the right message. The first time they run into each other on the beach at night and Pran yells at him, all Pat can say is "We're talking now?" because finally!!!! He is being thrown a bone! And Pran's walls immediately come down just a little because he realizes what he's done (and maybe can't help but feel a tug on his heart because of it no matter what logic he will use to guard it).

He's not ready for the conversation though and makes it clear that Pat will have to keep waiting. What I love is that even if Pat seems over the top with trying to get Pran's attention, he doesn't force an answer. He asks repeatedly and takes no several times. When they meet again on the beach, he finally figures out that he's been trying to communicate the wrong way. It's about what isn't being said, so he doesn't say it, he writes it.

It allows Pran to relax, and finally he begins using riddles. Pat tries to get something direct one last time and in response he gets "I don't want you to understand me... Just mind your business." Then it clicks. Pran has just given Pat a reason to explain his own actions because he knows one thing Pat will do is talk about his own business. So Pat clears up an issue that he knows rests between them: his relationship with Ink. He then throws Pran's line back at him and both of them fall into what I call 'their language'.

It isn't simply the competition. Pran knows Pat's gotten the riddle and feels free to both play his usual role in escalating the dynamic and poke around at the idea of them pursuing each other romantically. The kiss conversation was never needed in a direct sense because neither of them are able to dwell on the past without also bringing up personal pain, and they already had their moment of sharing those pains. Both of them can now approach moving forward and being excited, especially with the competition being about not confessing how they feel yet regardless of how aware they are about those feelings.

Pat and Pran make a practice of dancing around the truth until they're both pros at knowing what the other one means without so much as a wink or a smirk. They get so good at it that they know the only one as good as themselves is the other and no one else would be worth trying to put on their level. It keeps things fresh because this form of communication requires both accuracy and creativity. One thing our boys have shown is that they have endless creativity and years of understanding between each other that allows for the kind of accuracy required. Which is how we land with the interaction at the end and it is just the amount of crazy necessary to drive the relationship forward.

There’s a lot to love in the first episode of Bad Buddy and I think it set up several things really well, but underappreciated moment is defintiely the way the two of them have a impromptu competition in the music room (though unsure as to what they’re competing for, each other’s attention it looks like).
