So I found out about Splinter in Dead man’s eye

It puts Lloyd at age 9 when he was the green ninja

So I’m redoing my timeline for the show

Pilot episodes:

Kai is the oldest at 15

Cole is 15 but a few months younger

Zane’s body is actually about eight years old but I hc that Professor Julien had his program running on computers for awhile so Zane is actually 12 acts like an adult though so they just assume he’s 17

Jay is 14

So Ive been making a timeline for Ninjago (also incorporated some other themes like the Castle series, Ultra Agents, Galaxy Squad, Monster Fighters, Dino, etc.), but here are my headcanons for the ages of all the main characters, listed from oldest to youngest:

The First Spinjitzu Master: ~100,000 years old upon death

Garmadon: ~1,500 when FSM died, 1,761 in Pilot, 1,763 in Rebooted, 1,764 in SoG (cuz he was dead), 1,769 in Crystalized

Wu: ~1,500 when FSM died - 1,761 in Pilot, 1,763 in Rebooted, 3 in SoG (thanks Time Twins), 1,771 in Crystalized

Zane: Created in 210 AD* - 51 in Pilot, 53 in Rebooted, 56 in SoG, 136 in Crystalized (cuz Never Realm)

Cole: Born in 246 AD - 15 in Pilot, 17 in Rebooted, 20 in SoG, 25 in Crystalized

Kai: Born in 246 AD - 15 in Pilot, 17 in Rebooted, 20 in SoG, 25 in Crystalized

Jay: Born in 246 AD - 15 in Pilot, 17 in Rebooted, 20 in SoG, 25 in Crystalized

I started making a post about how confusing the ninja's ages are in the series, which stemmed from another post about how confusing the show's timeline is. To be clear, I don't mean the timeline in the sense of "when does Lore occurrence X, Y, and Z occur because with thousands of years of Wu's past catching up to him every other season, it's expected. I mean things like "how long does season one take? How long is each season? In how many years does the series take place?" I thought that figuring out the age of the ninja would fix that. Like, "Kai was around X in season one and Y in season 15. So, the series took place for Z amount of years."

Basic math, even a history major who pulls out a calculator for 2+2 can do it.

But then... I just kept counting. And yeah, I might have done the math waiting for a dorm meeting that ended up being crowded around a phone call with my RA cause she couldn't make it, but still. Shit's confusing. Half of it is based on my headcanons on how old these people are at certain points, and the other half is crunching numbers given to me by the wiki. Not to say anything bad about the wiki, though.

And then I considered Lloyd's age up, and then Zane being a robot, and then Dragon's Rising time skip. And just- I'm gonna scream /lh. I might post a rundown of my assumptions, headcanons, and "calculations" later but for now, it's just this.

So fun fact.

Now that Ninjago is over I’ve decided to do a bit of approximation and math to find out stuff like ages and more specific timeline stuff. Basically this is me doing my own math and saying fuck you to Tommy’s comments on the subject of how the Ninjago timeline works.

The series (from my approximations) takes place over the course of about 9-10 years. This would put Kai, Cole, and Jay at about 25-26 at the end of Crystalized (with Lloyd being physically/mentally 25-26 and Zane probably mentally 25-26). Nya would be about 23-24, and Lloyd would be around 20-21 chronologically.

I used my headcanon age for Vania when I was doing this, which is about 16. While it’s not exactly clear when the Upply took on Vangelis’s quest, if it took place before the events of the series, Vania would be about 6 and a half, which matches up with how old she appears in the Upply’s flashback.

That also means that yes, it’s completely possible that Plundar was a teenager when he met Korgran and Fungus (and Korgran and Fungus are Plundar’s gay dads, no I don’t take criticism).

This would also make the biological ages of the biological parents of the ninja most likely around their 50s.

This is actually kinda depressing too, Lloyd had only been on the First Spinjitzu Master’s weird yin yang fuckery of an island for about 20 or 21 years before it turned into a fucking crystalline apocalypse.

PLEASE remember that this is just my interpretation of the timeline based on official information (but not Tommy’s statements on the ninja’s ages. Fuck Tommy’s statements on the ninja’s ages, they make no frickin SENSE). Don’t harass people because of what I say, come to your own timeline conclusions :/

Ninjago Timeline

Was meant to be studying for a biology exam earlier but ended up thinking about the Ninjago timeline instead, so here you go.

I think we can compare Harumi, Lloyd, and Nelson’s ages to approximate a timeline.

So first of all, lets assume that Lloyd in the first season and a half is 12. His general personality and attitude fits your typical 12-year-old boy (I should know, I have one for a little brother) and it’s also the original target audience for Ninjago. He’s also old enough to be walking around on his own without anyone trying to find his parents while still being immature.

So what about the Tomorrow’s Tea? Well we don’t know exactly how much Lloyd aged since Lego doesn’t really distinguish between adults and teenagers, but we can guess that he’s aged up to at least 16 as he’s clearly past puberty. Based on him being seen as ‘old enough’ to fight Garmadon but still young, likely between 16 and 18. It should also be noted that his sudden maturity after being aged up suggests his brain development followed that of his body, as he acts more like someone in their mid-late teens than a preteen from that point forwards.

So what about the ninja themselves? Well word of god tells us that they were conceptualised as teenagers, although they all seem to be treated pretty much as adults within the world so we must assume that they’re in their late teens (17-19 range) with Zane being an outlier. It’s also implied that Nya is younger than Kai. The creators have said that they see the ninja as perpetual teenagers so they remain relatable to the audience but this is a timeline post so I don’t care about that, they gave up that right when they made them teachers in Rebooted (Season 3).

So, now that we have our initial ages for the main characters, let’s look at the ones that naturally age through the show. First of all Harumi. From her story, we can estimate that since she was around Lloyd’s age when the Great Devourer attacked and appears to now be an adult (or at least she better be because otherwise her relationship with Lloyd…) at least 6 years have passed between Rise of the Snakes and Sons of Garmadon (Season 1 and Season 8 respectively).

We can also look to Nelson, who was first seen as a child in Skybound (Season 6). We later see him in various seasons up to Crystalized (Season 16) where he attends the Ninja’s trial — however in these appearances he is now taller, implying he is still a teenager. As his first appearance with his new height is in Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu (Season 11) we can guess that approximately 3 years have passed between Season 6 and Season 11, and as his appearance has not changed since that less than 3 years has passed between Season 11 and Season 16.

So, where do these years go? While at least one or two of them goes between Legacy of the Golden Ninja (Season 2) and Rebooted (Season 3) due to technological development, the only other solid mention we have of time between seasons is between Seabound (Season 15) and Crystalized (Season 16) which is exactly one year.

So what does this tell us? Surprisingly, quite a lot. We know that the Ninja have had a lot of their recent adventures within a very short period of time, and also that they are all currently in their twenties (including Lloyd, both physically and chronologically). Feel free to use anything here for AUs or fanfiction!

(Also, not trying to work out Wu, Garmadon, and Misako. FSM decided to spawn kids out of nowhere one day, forgot to add the ageing feature for a few centuries, and Misako experienced premature ageing due to Wu and Garmadon being idiots).

Isn't it fun how everyone saw what terrified them most, but Nya's was so "unbelievable" that she broke out instantly? She was shown the one thing that was supposed to terrify her, make her spiral. But of course it wasn't real. It's Jay. If there's one thing she never once doubted, its that Jay is absolutely smitten, so of course he'd never forget her. What a silly thing to think, to be afraid of. She went through so damn much for this boy, and him for her, and we know how she is. Wouldn't it be petrifying if all that work, all that emotional turmoil, that clawing for love, could be forgotten just like that? Its quite a feat, really, that she can finally be confident in knowing such a fear is irrational.

It was easy to break free from such a place. It was only ever meant to scare her, and she has nothing to be afraid of. Right?
