Everything Right/Wrong with Ninjago “Rebooted” E2: The Art of the Silent Fist

- How convenient for the animators that Wu’s memories are all in third person ❌

- “No robots…” Lloyd forgets that Zane isn’t dead… yet. ❌

- Where did Nya get a green suit for Lloyd? ❌

- “There’s a reason [Wu’s] lived as long as he has.” Yeah, because he’s part of nearly every mythical, immortal creature in the book. There’s so many different forms of magical DNA in this guy that, frankly, I’m surprised he isn’t radioactive ❌

- “You guys go ahead. I will stay back and watch [the blades].” Wow, they didn’t even try to argue with him, huh? The DISRESPECT ❌

- Wait, why does Nya like Cole? We saw that the two were assigned as a perfect match, but we never saw hints of Nya actually liking him and now we’re supposed to believe she’s suddenly in love with both of them? What?? ❌

- “But Cole… Cole is not Jay (positive)…” OOOHHHHHHHHH🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

- Seriously though, this is such an awful line considering Jay is her canon love interest. And don’t say they didn’t know Jaya was gonna be canon because I do not believe there was a second they were actually going to make Cole and Nya a thing ❌

- I’m not even gonna sin them for tweaking Garmadon’s design from the end of last season because this one is objectively better ✅

- “Check out the new Sensei… lookin sharp!” Jay is a Garmadon simp confirmed and I really don’t know if that’s a sin or not anymore

- “SILENCE” *WHACK* Ohoh, I’m gonna like him, aren’t I? ✅

- How did Zane not notice the blades being stolen from in front of him? He clearly wasn’t sleeping, and Pixal later even says she wasn’t built for stealth ❌

- “Pixal? What are you doing?” “Discontinuing an old droid!” D*mn ✅

- Was that even a Pixal scream? It sounded a lot like Nya ❌

- “How about we take her apart to find out!” Jeez Kai calm down. Imagine what the others would say if he wanted to dismember a human ❌

- “Relax, not a weapon!” Then why didn’t they just bring them inside in the first place?!?! ❌

- “These nindroids are so much fas-“ Give me perfectly timed cuts for 400 Alex ✅

- “wouldn’t that mean shutting down Pixal too?” “Don’t tell Zane!” The ninja don’t even seem to consider Pixal as a living entity. They only even take her into account as a reference to Zane, nothing else. You can’t convince me they would be this chill about taking out the power if a human’s life was on the line. Basically what I’m saying is the ninja are racist ❌

- “We are all different, but I do not feel so different around you…”⬇️ ✅

- “Ever since we left I’ve been worried about [the students].” “Oh, Dareth’s looking after them.” Was that supposed to ease Cole’s worries cuz I’m pretty sure it made them worse ❌

- “Ya know, Cole, you don’t get the credit you deserve. You always put others ahead of yourself! I know the other ninja get all the attention but I just want you to know, you’re a good guy.” This is literally just the writers trying to convince us to care about Cole at a point in which such a small amount of the fandom actually did. I love Cole, I always have, but I think anyone who was in the fandom prior to the Wildbrain era can attest to how ignored he was as a character. This went off on a small rant so to clarify, I’m not sinning this because of how underrated Cole used to be (personally I think that’s more the fandom at the time’s fault than the show itself). I’m sinning this because it felt awkward and forced ❌

- “Don’t tell Jay.” Why? There was nothing inherently romantic about that line, or this situation in general, so what is there to not tell Jay? ❌

- “This is where all of Ninjago gets its power.” Zane mansplains something that even Dareth should be able to determine Pixal already knows ❌

- “I will call you Mindroid!” *angry mindroid noises* Worry not, Mindroid. One day we will join together and seek vengeance against all those who mock us with labels like “fun-sized” and “vertically challenged.” We are living versions of the pocket knife - cleverly concealed until the final moments in which we are revealed to deliver the killing blow.

- “Stupid technology!” Kai said, to the glass case ❌

- “oh who cares about probability!” this is character development… I have absolutely no idea where it came from or how Pixal developed but it sure is there ❌

- How unlucky was Pix that she just happened to land on the ONE laser we’ve seen throughout this entire episode? ❌

- *Mindroid breaks into office* “Great! Now they come in fun-sized!” ✅

- “This is no time for a lesson, Kai!” Actually, the climax generally is the time for the lesson, Jay

- The nindroids might have Storm Trooper aim but that doesn’t make it okay for the ninja to dodge in the worst possible way just to show off ❌

- Lloyd - beloved Green Bean - you’re supposed to cup the water in your hands, sweetie… not just stick your whole face in the pond like you’re bobbing for apples… ❌

- “This is why I took an oath of peace!” Why? So you and your son could get mauled by a giant, robotic dragon?? ❌

- Mindroid dies, and although killing him is 100% sinnable by death, this is actually a sin because he appears unscathed later on multiple times ❌

- Why does it take so long for Pixal to lose power? ❌

- “Your mission was important. I was not. I am to assist; I assisted.” The show never acknowledges how tragic this scene is. Well, it does, but only with Pixane, not Pixal as her own character. We constantly get to see glimpses of Pixal’s insecurities, but rarely see them built on or developed. ❌

- The only source of power for ALL of Ninjago is operated by this one tower and no one thought that was a bad idea ❌

- “We are compatible?” “Yes, yes we are.” ✅

- Look, Pixane is my favorite canon ship, but I still hate the way it happened. It was rushed, under-developed, and just didn’t feel right. ❌

- But also, Pixal only has feelings for Zane once it’s obvious that he feels that way about her so… recipromantic Pixal canon? ✅

Welcome To The Fictional Orphan Smackdown!

You ever wanted to pit a bunch of people who've gone through terrible (or not terrible, depending on the circumstance) loss against each other to see who's the best? Well, now you can!

There is no proper basis for who the "best" orphan is in this specific poll. Is it based on who's written better? It is based on who you like more? It is based on who would win in a fight? That's up to you!

Before we get started, here are some basic rules on who is qualified as an orphan for this specific poll:

Both biological parents must be dead.

Surrogate/adoptive parents as well as parental figures may still be alive.

If adoptive parents are dead, that counts as an orphan.

If a character has unorthodox parentage (ex. made in a lab, created directly by a diety, ect) and the characters they consider parental figures are dead, that is an orphan.

If they have no confirmed parents, but are theorized to be an orphan, I would have to see the evidence for that theory and judge from there.

On some level, this character should probably be affected by being an orphan (not a requirement, but it will help your chances).

Of course, there will be edge cases and I'll try to judge everything case-by-case, so even if you don't think a character qualifies, submit them anyway! I can't garuntee they get in, but the worst thing I can do is not put them in the bracket :)

Tournament size will be determined by how many submissions I get.

The Tournament of Elements | Turniej Żywiołów

35. The Invitation | Zaproszenie

● Lloyd [about Garmadon]: "Relax, we're cool." → "Wyluzuj, ojciec jest spoko." (Relax, father is cool.)

● The whole 'swearing is a sign of weak verbal skills' joke wouldn't really work in polish, so here's how it was translated:

Garmadon: "Przysiągłem, że już nigdy nie wrócę." (I swore to never come back)

Jay: "Przysięgi wychodzą już z mody, bo zbyt łatwo jest coś obiecać." (Swears are going out of fashion, because it's too easy to promise something.)

36. Only one can remain | Tylko jeden zwycięży (Only one will win)

● Neuro is changed to Neuron, which stays only for this and the next episode, and later Neuro is used.

38. NinjaRoll | Pojedynek na Wrotkach (Duel on Skates)

● Master of Form is translated as 'Mistrzyni Przemian' (Master of Changes/Transformations)

39. A spy for a spy | Szpiedzy są wśród nas (Spies are among us)

things start to get more interesting from here!

● When Chen congratulates Shade on defeating Tox, he says in english: "She was a bit hard to swallow, wasn't she?" In polish it's "Oj, toksyczny byłby to związek." (Oh, that would be a toxic relationship.)

● Clouse refers to Chen as 'mistrzuniu' which is DIM of 'Master'.

● The "but it's all for this staff" joke is translated really well! It's "Zapraszam państwa na przedstawienie" (I invite you for a performance). Przedstawienie can mean both a theater play and a presentation.

● Nya [to Jay]: "Someone in your circle of trust is a spy." → "Odpowiedź jest prosta kochany, macie szpiega." (The answer is simple dear, you have a spy)

● Kai [to Skylor]: "Uh, I hate to do this, but it's your turn. Can I see your back, please?" → "Przykro mi moja miła, ale nie mam wyboru. Pokaż plecki." (I'm sorry my love, but I don't have a choice. Show your back.)

● Nya [to Chen]: "Oh, and by the way, your feet stink!" → "Taki jesteś mądry, a śmierdzą ci stopy!" (You're so smart, but your feet stink!)

● A cultist uses 'Geisha' to refer to Kabuki.

40. Spellbound | Zaklęcie (Spell)

● Shade calls Kai a kid.

● Lloyd [after finding out about the letter]: "Mom thought the letter was from you!" → "Podpisałeś? Chyba żartujesz, jak mogłeś?!" (You signed it? You've got to be kidding, how could you?!) Lloyd also sounds angrier in polish version.

This line is what inspired me to this whole thing! When I was getting into Ninjago, I first watched some episodes available on YT in polish, and watched the rest in english. When I was rewatching the series with my brothers in english, something stuck out to me about this line, got curious, yada yada, and here we are!

● Garmadon: "A path I hope to one day make peace with." → "Wierzę, że kiedyś przyjdzie mi odkupić moje grzechy." (I believe that someday I will get to redeem my sins.)

● From now on the 'only one can remain' line is translated as 'Zwycięzca może być tylko jeden' (There can be only one winner).

● Kai: "Whoever's there, I'm fired up!" → "Pokaż się, zionę ogniem!" (Show yourself, I breathe fire!)

● Skylor [after Kai asked her about using Chen's weapons]: "Of course not, like I'd ever trust him!" → "Daj spokój, staruchowi nie można ufać." (Come on, the old man is not to be trusted. [AUG of an old man]).

● Garmadon: "Though the evil in my veins tempted me." → "Przyznaję, ciemna strona mocy kusiła mnie bardzo." (I admit, the dark side of force tempted me a lot.)

● Mystake [to the Anacondrai Generals]: "Mercy? Never heard of it!" → "Łaska? Wiecie co to takiego?" (Mercy? Do you even know what it is?)

● Cole: "Maybe rolling ourselves up into giant egg rolls isn't the best paln." → "Zgoda, wytaczanie na wroga giga krokietów nie było najlepszym pomysłem". (Agreed, sending giant croquets rolling on an enemy wasn't the best idea.)

● Chen hardly ever calls Skylor by name. It's always 'córcia' or 'córa' (DIM and AUG of daughter respectively. AUG isn't used as an insult in this context, and has similiar feelings to it DIM version does). If not daughter, then he uses words like 'sweetie', 'sweatheart', 'dear' etc.

41. The Forgotten Element | Ostatni Element (The Last Element)

In polish element is understood only as 'a piece of something'. Element for things like fire, earth etc is a different word.

● Shade [sarcastically]: "What gave that away?" →"Ktoś tu chyba odkrył Amerykę." (Someone here discovered America) 'To discover America' is a polish equivalent of "to reinvent the wheel".

● Jay [after being asked why is he humming]: "Since these cursed shackles have blocked our elemental powers, I chose to use a power of positive thinking." → "A co ja mogę? Będę nucił-odbiorą moce, nie będę- też odbiorą. To ja już wolę sobie nucić." (And what can I do? I'll be humming - they'll take our powers away, I won't - they'll still take them away. So I prefer to hum.)

● Chen: "It's good to be me." → "Jak ja siebie kocham!" (How I love myself!)

● Chope: "But he's got a mohawk." → "No, ale ma toporek." (Yeah, but he's got an axe.)

● Chope and Kapau are translated to Ciach (Slash) and Bidong (which doesn't really mean anything)

● Chen: "So many questions that can be so easily anwsered." → "Pytania, pytania, czemu ja muszę wszystko wiedzieć?" (Questions, questions, why do I have to know everything?)

● Lloyd: "Real power stops people like you" → "Ci co kradną nigdy nie wygrywają." (Those who steal never win)

Chen: "Only one can remain." → "A jednak czasem wygrywają." (And yet they win sometimes.)

● When Garmadon holds Skylor hostage, Chen calls him a Lord.

● Nya: "Zane you're back!"

Zane: "What? What's on my back?"→

Nya: "Zane! Chodź się przytul!" (Zane! Give me a hug!)

Zane: "Co? Kto przytył? Ja przytyłem?" (What? Who gained weight? I gained weight? ['przytul' - to hug; and 'przytył' - gained weight; sound kinda similiar to each other.])

42. Day of the Dragon | Dzień Smoka

● Kai: "What about Skylor?" → "A moja Skylor?" (And my Skylor?)

● Destiny's Bounty is finally translated! It's Perła Przeznaczenia (Pearl of Destiny). Previously it was just referred to as ship.

● Clouse: "I couldn't have asked for a better pet. (...)" → "A takiego pięknego miałem pieszczocha." (And I had such a beautiful pet.)

Chen: "Yeah, yeah, big tear for the snake. (...)" → "Przestań się rozczulać nad tym smokiem." (Stop feeling sorry for this dragon.)

My guess is that the translation was done like this because 'serpent' and 'snake' is the same word in polish - wąż.

● Chen [to Skylor]: "I blame myself for your slip of judgement." → "Te twoje amory, kochanie, zaćmiły ci obrazek. (Those romantic feelings of yours, sweetie, they have clouded your judgemnet.)

● Skylor: "You're not insignificant. You're pitiful." → "Jesteś żałosny. Nie znam cię." (You're pitiful. I don't know you.)

Chen: "How long do i have to listen to these insults? Will someone please seize her?" → "Oj, nie będzie mnie własna córka obrażać. Mógłby ktoś ją w końcu spacyfikować?" (Oh, I won't be insulted by my own daughter. Can someone pacify her already?)

● Garmadon: "He's replaced his Elemntal Staff with the Elements in his daughter." → "Że też on wszystko musi niszczyć, nawet własną córkę." (Why does he must destroy everything, even his own daughter.)

● When looking for Skylor, Kai doesn't say "She's too important." Kinda suprised given how the translator seems to like Kailor.

● Chope: "I feel more dead than a dead end rat." → "Czuję się jak zdechły pies po pogrzebie." (I feel like a dead dog after funeral.)

● When listing creatures Garmadon transformed into, Jay doesn't mention him turning into a dragon, and just says that he's a snake now.

● Karlof: "Metal dragon make Karlof very happy, happy." → "Karlof kochać swojego smoka bardzo, bardzo." (Karlof love his dragon very much, much)

43. The Greatest Fear of All | Najgorszy Koszmar (The Worst Nightmare)

● In this season pretty much every time 'Anacondrai' was used, it was replaced with 'Wężon' (Serpentine). I mostly brushed it off, but in this episode it actually starts to make lore-related problems: "There are no real Anacondrai left." "Przecież nie ma już prawdziwych Wężonów." (There aren't any real Serpentine left.) There's a bunch of sentences like this, but I'm including only the ones that seem to be the most contradicting ones.

● This is the first time 'City' part in Ninjago City gets translated!

● Ninja as a group were often translated as 'guys'. This is something I also didn't think would be worth mentioning, as mostly the allies used the word, but in this episode cultists use it? And when they say it it's "Guys and friends", while referring to the ninja an the alliance, so it kinda sounds as if their on posistive terms with them? It's just weird.

● Chen: "Oh, why must conquering Ninjago be so difficult?" →"Czemu ci źli zawsze mają pod górkę?" (Why do the bad guys always have it so hard?)

● Garmadon [about Kryptarium]: "Home of Ninjago's worst of the worst." → "Największe zagęszczenie zła na metr kwadratowy." (The highest density of evil per square meter.)

● Anacondrai is finally translated properly! Thank you! (it doesn't last long though)

● "There is no weakness! They're Anacondrai!" "Wężony nie mają słabych punktów!" (Serpentine have no weak spots!) Are you. Are you absolutely sure about that???

● Lloyd: "Sounds like Chen was playing both sides." → "To ci niespodzianka. Wujek Chen znów wszystkich oszukał." (What a suprise. Uncle Chen has decieved everyone again.) What is it with Lloyd calling people uncles?

● Chen calls Pythor a hamster.

● Garmadon [to Jay]: "This is stopping the world as we know it." → "Jesteś z nami albo przeciwko nam. Wybieraj." (You're either with us or against us. Choose.)

● Wu: "And brother, if for whatever reason this doesn't work out, I'm glad you're home." → "I bracie, gdyby nasze drogi nigdy się nie zeszły, wiedz, że zawsze cię kochałem." (And brother, if our paths were to never cross again, know that I've always loved you.)

● Misako often uses 'dear'/'love', when talking to Garmadon. She also often addresses him as her husband. (Even after the letter reveal!)

● Chen: "Like you said, we aren't real Anacondrai. No, we are not. No, no, no." → "Miałeś rację mały. Jesteśmy złodziejami i uzurpatorami. Jesteśmy źli. Źli, źli, źli." (You were right kid. We're thieves and impostors. We're evil. Evil, evil, evil.)

44. The Corridor of Elders | Wąwóz Wielkich (The Gorge of the Great)

● Chen refers to Wu as "the wise, older brother" ?????

● Wu: "Only one side can declare victory." → "Zwycięzca może być tylko jeden." (There can be only one winner.) You may have noticed that it's the polish version of 'only one can remain'. I think it's a pretty neat translating decision!

● When encourgaging the citizens of Ninjago to join the fight, Cole tells the prisoners to fight for freedom.

● Pythor: "You can trust me because if anyone is going to take over this world, I'd rather it to be me." → "Możesz mi ufać. Też chyba nie chcę aby te gady przejęły władzę nad światem." (You can trust me. I don't think I'd want these reptiles to rule the world.)

● Garmadon: "I never thought I'd say this, but Pythor's right." → "Nie sądziłem, że to powiem, ale zaufajmy wężowi." (I never thought I'd say this, but let's trust a snake.) I think I prefer this over the original version? It's a cool callback to a reappearing line!

● During the burning of the Spellbook, Kai says 'Long, live Garmadon'.

● Instead of saying his name, Morro says 'see you tomorrow'.

And that's it! This season took over seven pages in my notebook, with the episodes 41-44 all took more than a page. Next up is Possession, which may not have as many changes, but certainly has some interesting ones! (Why did Wu call Lloyd his son, I-)

Dawn: Garmadon and Wu x Reader

-sorry this took so long, I was trying to generate ideas I liked, but then writers’ block was like

Summary (given to me by @minneholmes): What about “in the period of garmadon and wu’s adult years (the anacondrai wars) where reader is trying to keep all the elemental masters together?” The reader could be a childhood friend or a significant other of one of the brothers.

You knew nothing lasted forever, but this? This was it. The final and only breaking point left to snap was this. The Elemental Alliance had been solid. It was like Earth, rigid, unyielding, and whole. Now, it lay in shambles, leaving you with nothing save for suffering. 

The war would end soon, you thought. But not in your favour or anyone else  beside those slithering pieces of slime. You sighed, running a hand through your hair as Wu have your shoulder a good squeeze. “There was nothing left to be done.” he said. You sent him a glance, shrugging off his hand with a frown. 

“There’s ‘nothing left to be done’?” You were beyond angry. Angry at yourself, at how stupid you had been, at how badly everything had turned out to be. Your eyes stung with hot tears but you didn’t care, you had to yell, had to let the universe know just how angry you were. 

“Wu, if we had been more alert, then we all would have seen it coming! We shouldn’t have trusted the word of our own, no matter how tight knit we are. That was how they got us. We were fooled by our own blind belief in each other!” You grasped the sides of your head, ruffling your hair and extending the gap between you and Wu. “I don’t care what we do next. I’d rather die than lose to the anacondrai! I will not bow down to them. Never.” 

You couldn’t see through the tears blurring your vision. You were just so angry at everything and anything that came in your way because nothing was supposed to turn out like this, nothing was supposed to not get better. You were tired. Tired of it all. “There’s--there’s nothing left to do Wu and I...I don’t know how we can win when we...” 

Suddenly, warm arms pulled you in fast. They were warm, comforting, and loving. You hadn’t hugged anyone in a while, not since the start of the War that left you scraping over war plans for days. There was no time for sentiment when anyone could die any moment. 

The last rays of sun shone over Wu’s golden locks, illuminating the precious colours over your cheeks. Wu was the very embodiment of light. He practically exuded it wherever he went. 

“When I was young,” he tenderly began, “my father always told me to have faith. Forever, that is what I will hold onto, and for that reason, I will never admit defeat until I know it to be the right path.” Your knees began to give out and Wu crumpled to the floor by your side, arms still tightly secured around your shoulders. 

“When we walk, it will never be in a straight line, so when we face adversary and hardship, we must never lose faith in ourselves or those around us. I know hope may be lost, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find it again.” You squeezed your eyes shut and buried your face in his shoulder. “Wu, I--I’m falling apart. I can’t...I can’t do this...” 

“Yes you can.” he affirmed. “You’re strong, so much stronger than you know.” 

You sat there in the quiet courtyard for a while longer, savouring the comfort that encased your soul. Maybe he was right, maybe he wasn’t. You wouldn’t know, not until you were sure the war could be won. 

When you had finally calmed, Wu glanced at the purple sky mashing with pink and blue. “It’s getting dark.” he gently said. “Do you want to go inside?” You shook your head. “I think I’ll stay a while longer.” He nodded in understanding, giving your elbow a pat. “Good night (Y/n). There’s dinner on the stove and tea on the counter if you want some. Get some sleep.” He glanced at the dark circles under your eyes. “Please.” 

You watched as Wu made his way to the doors and slid them open. For a moment, warm, yellow light engulfed your figure with warmth. But as soon as it came, it disappeared, along with Wu and his comforting smile. You rested your head in your knees, and for an eternity, you sat in the fading light, allowing the darkness to consume you until the stars and moon decided to enter the stage. 

You knew it hadn’t really been an eternity, but it could have been. You were drowning in your mistakes, your misplaced steps that could have led to victory. The broken alliance was left in shards, shards you could never piece together. 

“Hey.” 

You lazily opened your eyes, squinting at the small lantern that burned through the night. “Garmadon.” Your voice was soft, nearly lost to the wind. It was a miracle he heard it, and another that he allowed a smile to reach his lips. “What are you doing out here?” 

“Drowning in my own sins.” 

Garmadon set the lantern at his feet and plopped down by your side. He leaned against the wall, allowing his head to fall back so he could gaze at the stars. “You didn’t show up for dinner. Are you hungry? Or has that urge been drowned too?” You chuckled a little at his lame attempt at a joke. 

“You look better when you smile.” he boldly admitted. “Keep it that way.” You ignored the heat rising to your cheeks. “Garmadon--”

“When we were younger, you used to smile all the time. So much that your cheeks hurt. I called you stupid for that, but now I wish I hadn’t.” He let out a long sigh, and you realised that he was reliving memories of the past. Garmadon was hard to read compared to Wu, but it was times like this that you knew what he was thinking just by feeling. 

“Something is on your mind.” you blurted. Garmadon glanced at you and then back at the stars. He fiddled with the edge of his sleeves. “Even if I am, it’s not important.” He turned to face you head-on. “Talk. You’re not okay and I will not sit here watching you fall apart.” You bumped his shoulder, almost playfully. “I’m alright. I’ll get through this like I always do.” 

“’Like I always do’.” Garmadon scoffed. “This is a battle you can’t win on your own. No matter how strong you are. Nothing was your fault, no matter how you look at it.” 

There was a long beat of silence that stretched for seconds, then minutes and more. You didn’t know what to say, and maybe that was because there was nothing to say. Garmadon was right. First Spinjitzu Master did you hate when he was right. 

“The Time Twins were the key,” you quietly stated. “They were the first step that caused doubt to spread between all of us. Garmadon, who do we trust? What if they managed to convince other Masters to turn? Then what can we do? We are all filled with doubt, and that doubt is more powerful than any army. I said it once and I’ll say it again, we are losing.” 

Garmadon didn’t say anything. 

He was supposed to be the smart one. The solid boy who you looked to for ideas and support when you had none. This time? All he gave you was a look of uncertainty. Shivers ran down your spine.

A brand new day. A brand new dawn. Your stomach grumbled, and you knew it was because you had skipped dinner and breakfast. It was a terrible coping mechanism you did under stress, something that would later come to bite you in the back. 

But you couldn’t worry about that now. You had a duty, as the Master of Aether, to the last of the Alliance. 

You could practically feel the doubt coursing through the Master of Ice’s veins as you passed him. He had his arms crossed, and his lips pursed so paper thin. “How can we win without the Time Twins?” he inquired. “They were our most powerful allies, and now, I do not believe we stand a chance.” 

The Master of Lightning ran a hand through her thick hair with a sigh. “I can only hope we win this. They have all the time in the world they need, all while controlling it and everything. What do we have? Just the last of us. And even if we do win, how do you restrain two Masters of Time?”

You paused in your step, flicking your katana a few times to ease your nerves. You carefully listened as they continued talking amongst themselves. 

We can’t do this...

We can’t win without them...

How do you beat time?

We’re going to lose.

It’s over. 

It’s all over.

Suddenly, as if you had been struck by the Master of Lightning herself, you froze. Everything became clear, and it was then that you knew you had to do something. Even if you doubted your own abilities, your own allies, and everything Ninjago had to offer, you couldn’t sit around and watch it unfold.

You had to be there for the Alliance when no one else could. You had to mend the broken pieces, even if it was one by one.

You turned to the Alliance gathered in small groups. They mingled with each other, discussing the latest battle plans or complaining about how this was ‘the end. “Excuse me!” you called. “Can I have everyone’s attention!” 

The Masters all turned to you, eyes wide in bewilderment. 

“Don’t tell me we’ve been betrayed again. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the Master of Lightning’s fault. She has a big mouth anyway.” 

You didn’t care who said that; you’d chew him out if you saw him again after the battle. “I know we all feel doubtful,” you glanced at the guy who complained a second ago. “But that does not mean we can accuse each other of betrayal! If you want to continue doubting each other, then fine. If Ninjago falls, then I know I can blame someone other than myself. This is our last stand. We cannot let the Anacondrai win! Not when there are families--mothers, fathers, children who rely on us! We cannot fail them. Not this time. 

“Someone told me to have faith,” you glanced at Wu, “and that when we walk, it will never be in a straight line. This...setback, this betrayal, will not hinder us further. Today is a new day, meaning new beginnings, and new opportunities. We are strong, but only as our weakest link. Together,” you glanced at Garmadon, “we must mend what has been broken, and triumph for the Alliance! For all of Ninjago!”

You heaved in a deep breath. 

“So let this be our last stand, and together, let there be another dawn.”

there are 3 known realms; hell, heaven, and ninjago. 

hell is where demons are born. only the strongest and fittest will survive here. you are either born with immense power or must fight for it. immediately from birth, demons here know they have to fight for their lives. its a free for all, and only one demon will stay winning. if they become the strongest demon, they essentially become the king of hell, with all the things they could dream of having. riches, food, power, anarchy. the king possesses it all, but must fight to keep his right to the throne.

heaven. angels are born here, into different jobs and duties they must fulfill, as there in a hierarchy for every angel. an angel could be a judge who would convict mortals based on their sins and virtues, to a guardian assigned with the sole task to hunt down demons that have escaped hell or to protect mortals.

ninjago is a typical realm. but here lives all sorts of mythical creatures. fae, mermaids, witches, wizards, werewolves, ghosts-- any sort of mythical creature you know, they have trodden in this realm and live hidden from the mortal eye. but these beautiful and terrifying creatures are near extinction, due to the human hunters that desire their magic.

the other realms cease or exist. any characters from those realms are solely in hell, heaven, or ninjago. (unless... ???)

lloyd is the son of lord garmadon, the king of hell. his mortal mother, misako, took lloyd and escaped with him from hell under an agreement with garm. garmadon may be the literal incarnate of evil, but that does not mean he wants a hellish(im so fucking tired) life for his son.

kai is a human hunter and blacksmith, thirsty for revenge from demons, angels, and mythical creatures alike. he believes they have taken his parents. also probably becomes a demon later on lmfao

nya is a sympathetic human hunter along with kai, but a witch/inventor in hiding. she knows kai severely hates anything magical so she tries to keep it secret from him, but aids any mythical creatures kai hurts and releases them. 

zane is an artificial seraph(or angel) created by dr julien, a fallen angel who built him in hopes of replacing his role in heaven. he is one of the strongest guardians in heaven, built to be the protector of all of ninjago. he resides on earth, having lost his memory and all connection to heaven. but he has never been to heaven, as his creator attempted to send him up to the golden gates to no avail. he was refused entrance to heaven for being artificial, much to the dismay of his friends.

cole is one of the very few remaining of an ancient mythical species, the kind who are incredibly powerful. by nature, he is the mythical protector of his land, ninjago, and every mythical creature living in it. the name of his species has been lost in time, and even he has forgotten it. 

jay is a mortal man and inventor, whom has been accused of wizardry several times. he has been lucky enough to survive the witch hunts. he lives under the protection of ed & edna walker, two fallen angels who only want the best for their son. he is the first to have met any of the other ninja, cole, when he was searching for discarded items in the forest. they have been besties ever since lmfao

Everything Right/Wrong with Ninjago “Rebooted” E3: Blackout

- At least the theme hasn’t been tainted by the love triangle ✅

- Given the angle that Lloyd is holding these rocks at, Garmadon must have glued them together to make them not fall ❌

- “I’m already the golden ninja. How much more power do I need?” That’d be a great argument… IF it had anything to do with Garmadon’s monologue, but it didn’t. All he was saying was that people grew too reliant on tech and it backfired. He makes the same point about Lloyd and golden power later this ep, but that has little to do with how much of his power Lloyd needs to tap into ❌

- Garmadon is standing on a tall, narrow pillar of rock. Where in the hell did he get this massive boulder from?? ❌

- The “cloaked figure’s” purple and black belt is actually pretty good foreshadowing ✅

- Triple foreshadowing points for the way he moves around (his hips swaying like the serpentine do when they slither), and his voice breaking in and out (almost making him sound out of breath at times) hinting he’s sick/injured ✅

- “You are vital to the mission! And you are vital to me.” Zane the rizz-droid✅

- “Judging from Perfect Match CompatibilityTM, perhaps Nya and Cole would be a better comparison?” Yeah, I’m gonna need a full MLA-formatted research paper with a works’ cited page in order to believe that one, Pix ❌

- Ed is in such shock from hearing about Cole and Nya that while his son loses his mind, Ed just stands there. Smiling. menacingly. ❌

- “Quiet in here. What’d I miss? Another signature Jay gut-buster?😇” This line isn’t even meant to be the punchline but the timing of it alone is so perfect that I don’t even care about the rest of the joke ✅

- But also, since when does Cole ever admit to Jay being funny? ❌

- “You rely too much on your golden power - let this be a lesson. Center yourself and move the mountain with your mind.” Being able to move mountains IS a part of his golden power - we know this because there is never any attempt to learn how to do it after he gives the golden power up, implying that he physically can’t. If Garmadon wants Lloyd to learn not to rely so much on his golden power, he should be telling him to find a way across the mountain w/o using any powers - just his own wits and combat skill. ❌

- I know I’ve been bashing on Garm’s goal this ep, but he does have a point about Lloyd needing to learn to rely on something other than his powers. After all, you can learn all the new skills ya want Green Bean, but ya never know when a group of writers are just gonna retcon half of em away… not that that would ever happen 🙂 /s ❌

- “I’m not the FSM, and I never wanted to be!” This line. This should be talked about more. ✅

- “I know… I was once like this too…” So should this! But this one’s counting as a sin because, unlike above, the writers actually had several perfect opportunities to talk about it and still never did. Seriously, how much more engaging and gut-wrenching could Lloyd’s fears of being like his father during the Wildbrain seasons have been if there had been more scenes/references showing us how similar they are? How much more character could’ve been added to their dynamic if we had seen them give the exact same snarky, one-line reply to something Wu said? How much better could we have understood Lloyd’s fears if we had heard just one or two lines like “your father used to say stuff like that.” How much more interesting could Lloyd be if we had seen just one scene of Wu or Misako watching Lloyd and Garm fight alongside each other, said watcher’s eyes glancing between the two and maybe shifting in concern as they note how similar the two’s fighting styles are. Not even just Lloyd! How much more could we understand Garmadon if we had seen scenes of him as a kid struggling to sit still and meditate, like we see from Lloyd in S11? One of my favorite things about Lloyd and Garmadon is that, when you really look at it, they are so similar. When you really look at the two as they play their roles as hero and villain (not their characters’ as a whole but their version of themselves they display to outside people), Lloyd is all the best parts of Garmadon and Garmadon is all the worst parts of Lloyd. Lloyd is wise, strategic, and reasonable. Garmadon is stubborn, untrusting, and easy to anger. All of the traits that one puts out to the world, the other locks behind closed doors. It puts the two in a perfect position to help each other accept and embrace the parts of themselves behind those doors, and it just makes me sad that we haven’t seen that utilized in the show❌

- “Well what’s the point in being a blue ninja? Unless you’re trying to hide out in some goofy clown college!” If they’re going to force this stupid love triangle plot onto us they could’ve at least made the insults good ❌

- Also, Cole has no reason to start throwing insults at Jay because we have seen nothing showing that he has any feelings for Nya. It makes it come off as though Cole only starts trying to win her over out of spite because he’s pissed off at Jay for attacking him and treating him like it’s his fault in the first place ❌

- That in mind, how much funnier would this subplot be if, instead of Cole and Jay fighting for Nya’s affection, Jay was constantly competing/picking fights with Cole, behaving as if there’s some rivalry between them based on the grounds that they’re both into the same girl, all while Cole just exasperatedly repeats “DUDE, I SWEAR I’m not trying to date Nya! I don’t even like her!!” Only for Jay to reply, “Tryin’ to make me let my guard down huh? Well it won’t work!”

- “There are reputable entertainers that attend clown college!” At least the unfunny insult led into a slightly funny joke ig? ✅

- Show tries to gaslight us into thinking that this fist fight is equally matched despite it being a guy with super strength vs. fucking Jay ❌

- “I don’t see why you wanted to settle this arm wrestling. You know I have super strength!” Show even acknowledges previous sin but still acts as if it’s just a minor detail ❌

- Wu revives the nindroids using some eels on a staff and I was gonna sin it because I didn’t think they could survive more than a few minutes out of water, but apparently eels can actually survive several hours on land due to the thickness of their skin. So, to save me from the shame I feel whenever one of my sins backfires on me, I’m just gonna say this is the third edition to our newest segment: “Fun facts with Vix!”

- I get that a lot’s going on right now but did NONE of them hear the massive car that Wu threw across the junkyard? Really? ❌

- “This macho stuff is making you both look like fools!” Show’s rating prevents Nya from saying dumbasses ❌

- “Maybe you belong together!” Nya introduces an entire generation of kids to the concept of gay. Good for her good for her ✅

- “The machines haven’t worked since the outage. What’s powering them?” “Nindroids!” No, the nindroids are controlling them, but they aren’t the power source ❌

- “They are after the technoblades.” For context, everyone is in Ed and Edna’s trailer, which is being thrown around in circles by one of those massive construction magnets. Everyone is pinned to the walls, screaming for their lives, and Pixal- beloved Pixal- literally from on top of Zane, says that line in the most casual, steady, normal voice I have ever heard. How can people not love her? ✅

- “Yeah well they almost hit MY MOTHER” Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing - stop. Go to Netflix, Ninjago s3e3, time stamp: 08:58, and listen to this line. Then look me in the eye and tell me that between the timing, the voice acting, the set-up, and everything else, this isn’t the BEST line in the season. You can’t. You can’t! Because it is. Hands down. I will fight about this ✅

- “Did ya make [a jetpack] for me?” “Uh, sorry honey. You hardly ever come to visit!” Get fucking wrecked Jay ✅

- “Your heart… splitting it must’ve inhibited your fighting abilities.” At least it does until it becomes inconvenient to the plot. At that point they’re fine again ❌

- In some clips, Wu’s forehead wrinkles transfer over to the metal plate covering his face ❌

- Mindroid is alive again by the way, so I’m pretty sure the writers genuinely forgot they killed him… and don’t give me the “he can be rebuilt” because my guy was fucking VAPORIZED in that beam ❌

- Teaching kids that it’s okay to punch glass ❌

- “It’s like we were made…” “… to fight together!” Inaccurate considering the only reason it’s like this is because of the very recent event of splitting Zane’s power source, but I see what they’re going for and it’s wholesome so I guess they can take their win ✅

- “Which color did you choose?” “Like I’ll ever tell!” Seriously?! All that and we never figure out which wire she cut? I’m genuinely convinced this entire subplot exists only to piss everyone off ❌

- Also, that line brings me back to the point of why Cole cares about what color she picked in the first place. He’s shown NO signs of liking Nya. He only starts acting like this because the writers wanted to force the love triangle ❌

- How is evil Wu THIS bad at fighting? It’s painful to watch ❌

- I heard somewhere that the writers regret having wasted the evil Wu arc and wish they could’ve redone it to make it better. I 100% agree with this. For example, instead of having him freed from the Overlord’s control, I simply would’ve made one of the ninja kill him. Ya know. For the plot.

- “More like Tech Wu!” Was this supposed to be a pun? I- huh?? ❌

- “Who the heck was that guy?” “Or gal!” Nya supports feminism!…. But fuck the enbies, demigenders, agenders, bigenders, genderfluids, and anyone else who’s under the nonbinary umbrella I guess? ❌ /lh

- “Whoever it is, they turned our Sensei against us!” At least Kai supports trans rights ✅

- Climbing a mountain this steep is dangerous enough, but climbing it with LEGO HANDS has to be a death wish ❌

- “Wish you still had 4 hands? It would’ve come in handy!” It took me an embarrassingly long number of years to figure out that this was a pun. Idek who this sin is on anymore ❌

- “Your potential is great. NOT your sense of humor.” Imagine getting told your jokes suck by a literal dad ✅

- “Still won’t let me use the golden dreagon?” My biggest regret in life is not winning every single instance of “draegon” in the previous two seasons ✅

- “It’s going to know someone has touched its young!” “It? Who?” “Daddy.” Please, for all that is good in this world, do NOT let the Garmadon simps know that this line exists ❌

- “You’re not gonna fall on my watch😇🥰😉” “Your compassion is NOT helping!😡🤬” These two have such a good dynamic, and the show does a really good job of portraying it, and even post-evil Garmadon in general - which I’ll get into more during ToE ✅

- “You just moved a mountain son…” I can FEEL the proud DadTM energy coming from this line ✅

- “Whoever you are… I like you.” Gay ✅

Everything Right/Wrong with Ninjago “Rise of the Serpentine” E5: Can of Worms

I really wish we got to see more of Lloyd and the ninja prior to the Green Ninja reveal :(. Also, this contains a reference that only a small fraction of people will likely understand fully, but I couldn’t stop myself. DISCLAIMERS: Show owned by LEGO. - Theme ✅

- Lloyd can whistle, and regularly whistles his way around the Bounty. I don’t know why this is a win, but it is ✅

- At first this was gonna be a sin for having the audacity to name a video game something as stupid and obvious as, “citar legend,” but now it’s a win for my phone for repeatedly correcting it to “cig@r legend” every time I tried to type it out ✅

- Never forget that in a matter of what must’ve been hours, Lloyd managed to not only beat Kai at “his game,” but managed to top his own high score like 4 times ✅

- “…later bro” ✅

- Why does Jay do nothing and just let the sparring bot attack him? Couldn’t he just Spinjitzu his way out of this or something? ❌

- Also, what did Lloyd do to the sparring bot? Either he genuinely has knowledge of how to tinker with it and purposefully made it go haywire, or he just beat it a couple times with a wrench and hoped it would attack Jay anyway. Either option is worth a win ✅

- At first I thought he was waving, but based on his hand placements, I think Lloyd is saluting the ninja as he walks away from them?? ✅

- I don’t know who the ninja are yelling at right now, but they’re not even looking at each other ❌

- “How am I supposed to strike fear in this? It’s pink!” Zane finally learned about gender roles. Is this character development, or character regression? ❌

- I love that before Wu opens the door you can see Lloyd’s silhouette just standing there waiting… menacingly ✅

- “I got first dibs on-“ Cole threatens to beat an 8 year old for adding spice to his soup ❌

- “Why can’t you teach us to paralyze a man with one finger? Or find out if a man is lying by the twitch of his nose?” “Because not all lessons are about fighting!” Maybe not, but Jay’s ideas sound a h*ll of a lot more useful considering what they do everyday ❌

- “And I misplaced my lesson book.” Wu loses his lesson book and then suddenly forgets everything he’s ever known about this ancient craft he’s been practicing for literal centuries ❌

- How sound-proofed are those doors that they completely block out Lloyd’s voice when Cole closes them?? ❌

- “… live with us, but my sister??” Kai wants his baby sister to live alone in a blacksmith shop just because she isn’t a ninja ❌

- “But those tombs could be anywhere!” Shame we don’t have someone here who literally helped to imprison the serpentine in the first place, isn’t it? ❌

- The tombs are BARELY in line with that symbol. If the writers wanted to make this make sense, they easily could’ve just gone with a less complicated symbol. I really don’t know what the point of this was ❌

- “Light as a feather, pinky” ✅

- Btw, Glacier fans, how many times have you rewatched this scene?

- I was gonna add a sin for the Mailman because why was he delivering mail to the Constrictai tomb, but at this point I’m just gonna say he’s omnipotent or something and move on.

- “You shouldn’t sneak up on people like that” It didn’t? The frog was standing there the whole time, Fire Cracker ❌

- “No, I’m the real jay!” Call me crazy, but this was actually really good set up for Kai’s venomari-induced vision to be a million Jays attacking him and him struggling to figure out which one was the real one. But sure, elves and gingerbread people work too, I guess

- “I’ve never fought little people before!” You’ve fought Lloyd, isn’t that close enough?

- Cool save but what was Nya’s dart supposed to do? If it was a tranquilizer it wasn’t very effective ❌

- Detail of Samurai X wearing Nya’s bracelet ✅

- But also, how do none of the ninja notice that they’re wearing Nya’s bracelet?? ❌

- We have dr*nk Adora, sick Luz, Marky Wu, AND thawed-out Sprig, but stoned Kai will always be the OG ✅

- Jay spills his drink all over the table and makes no effort to clean it up ❌

- “It’s a can of worms I don’t wanna see open.” Line exists solely for the purpose of claiming that the title of the episode makes sense… which it doesn’t, but the writers were short on time and literally couldn’t think of anything else so it’s what we’re stuck with ❌

- “Don’t worry, it’ll ware off soon.” The little wink Jay does at the end>>>>>✅

- Also, plasma shippers, how many times have you rewatched this scene?

- Kai screaming in this clip will never not be hilarious ✅

- Why does Pythor have such a hard time uniting the tribes in these next few episodes? I know they were supposedly at war, but it couldn’t have been that bad of one if there were casual friendships between them like Skales and the Fangpyre ❌

- “Friends, enemies, and enemies who pretend to be friends” Pythor definitely has a better public speaking grade than I do ✅

- “That’s a lot of snakes…” Actually, that’s a frighteningly low amount of snakes considering these tribes are supposed to make up an entire race of people ❌

- So do the serpentine bond over r@cist jokes or…?

- ^ “What’s going on? Why am I losing them?!” I don’t know, Pythor, but maybe you should ask the brightly colored ninja hanging from ropes in midair where everyone can and should see them what they think. They look like they could shed some light on the situation ❌

- The serpentine were somehow harder to defeat and escape from when we were just dealing with one tribe at a time ❌

- Jay dangling off the bike ✅

- In Tournament of Elements, you can actually see that Chen has Zane’s pink suit, which implies that Lloyd sold it or something and just found a new one here ✅

- How did Lloyd manage to rig the fridge to do this???? Whether you want to admit it or not, kid Lloyd had a braincell that everyone likes to ignore ✅

- The episode moral was supposed to be that rumors are destructive, but it actually features the heroes weaponizing them against their enemies. So, always use destructive means to achieve your goals because they’ll justify each other eventually, kids! ✅

HBO Max New Releases: November 2020

There are only two months left to go in this truly hellish year and relatively new streaming service HBO Max is trying to make the best of them. While most other streamers recover from Halloween and get prepared for Christmas, HBO Max is using November 2020 to fill out its servers.

Things are pretty light not the new original series front this month with only Industry (Nov. 9) and His Dark Materials season 2 (Nov. 16) making a splash. But the streamer has a couple of notable original films to complement them. Between the World and Me, based on the book by Ta-Nehisi Coates, arrives on Nov. 21 and Melissa McCarthy comedy Superintelligence arrives on Nov. 26. That’s not even to mention two intriguing projects that don’t have dates yet: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Special and The Mystery of DB Cooper.

Thankfully, the real appeal in November 2020 is all the fresh library content making its way to HBO Max. Nov. 1 sees the arrival of The Dark Knight, The Hobbit Trilogy, all the Lego Movies, and even the first episode of Rick and Morty season 4 (with more presumably to follow). Those offerings will be augmented later on by the always-entertaining Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Nov. 7.

Everything Right/Wrong with “Rebooted” E1: The Surge

Sooo it’s been awhile but we’re back! Disclaimers: Show owned by LEGO. This is not a professional review/critique - it’s mainly intended for comedy!

- This season is titled “Rebooted,” get it? Cuz the show got rebooted for this season after it was supposed to end? And also the season itself deals with technology? And also if you’re anything like me this season makes you wanna reboot yourself so you can forget chunks of it ever happeneD- ❌

- Not my favorite intro or remix, but I still gotta admit it’s pretty cool, even if I do miss the family photo-like style of the OG ✅

- In the original intro it was just Cole, but now it seems that everyone except for Lloyd has lost their smiling privileges ❌ (the pic below shows everyone with their masks up but it’s taken from a later ep)

- The longer you look at this image, the more awkward the poses get… Seriously, look at all of them for a good while and try to explain what they’re doing ❌

- I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… this show knows music! 2 seconds into the actual episode and this score is already giving me goosebumps ✅

- ^ There’s a lot to say about this photo so I’m just gonna break it down here:

- Jay rocking the pose ✅

- Zane tried ✅

- Kai leaning on Jay… and maybe struggling to balance while doing so? ✅

- Cole is giving Dareth a piggy-back ride and I think we all wish we were Dareth right now ✅

- And Lloyd is very confused as to where the camera is apparently ✅

- “Ninjago City soon became… New Ninjago City.” Creative. ❌

- Also it’s never actually referred to as “New Ninjago City” much after this season, or even in it tbh ❌

- “And it became the center for great technological advancements.” Most of which will exit and re-enter the plot at any given time that’s most convenient for the writers because who needs continuity? ❌

- At first I was gonna ask who tf sings in the shower like this (Kai was just making random, loud noises - no actual words, and it didn’t seem like humming) but while typing I realized that this actually seems more akin to vocal stimming so… neurodivergent Kai canon? ✅

- “Brad got an ultra remote from New Ninjago City and it’s controlling Mr. Zane!” HOW? ❌

- “Mr. Cole is the worst!” Child echoes most of the fandom this early in the show’s run ❌

- Kai’s pudding cup was sitting in his bag with no lid or covering whatsoever ❌

- Wait, the ninja don’t have powers anymore because they don’t have the blades, so how did Zane freeze Jay’s pudding cup? I get that he’s a nindroid, but he doesn’t use ice powers for anything else until later this season when they officially get their powers back ❌

- “Why is it that whenever I teach, I get the feeling that none of the boys are listening?” Oh, I know the answer to this one!⬇️

- “I saved you some pudding.” “What did we talk about?” “Oh, right, boundaries.” You probably have some questions right now, like, “did Jay and Nya break up?” And “Why did they break up?” And most importantly, “are we ever gonna get answers to these questions?” And the answer to that is: No. live and die in wonder ❌

- They get clearance for a field trip that they have to take the day of? You could argue that Borg was in a rush to get the techno blades to the ninja and wanted to take this opportunity while he still could, and Wu really wanted to do this field trip so Nya jumped at it as well, and to that I say… that’s actually a pretty good argument. Well done.

- “If you ask me, people should concern themselves with the lessons of the past - not waste their time on disposable fads of tomorrow…” Of all characters, why would Kai have this sentiment? Especially since they already established Cole as the “lame” one. I guess I wouldn’t say it’s entirely ooc, but it still makes it abundantly clear that they had no idea what they wanted to do with Kai this season ❌

- Wu instructs Nya to “get a move on,” which she does, and immediately drives down a steep mountain, while Wu stands, unsupported, in the front of the bus ❌

- But ya know what? Nya saw her chance to attempt murder and went with it, and I can respect that ✅

- “Wow… you leave town a short while and-“ everything becomes tinted in blue?

- This bit where everything tech-related doesn’t wanna work for Kai is even funnier when you consider that it’s technically all sentient and controlled by the Overlord ✅

- “Your hardware is outdated and your processor is slow and incompatible with ours.” Line is not followed by air horns ❌

- “Even now, he is working on a digiverse…” foreshadowing ✅

- “They have a perfect match console!” Why do I feel a part of my soul dying?

- “What’s perfect match?” Seriously, why do I have this gut feeling that something very very bad is about to happen… like I’m about to witness a moment that will forever go down as this show’s worst writing decision ever?

- “It finds your perfect partner with flawless results!” Wait…

- “Hello, Nya…” No…

- “You are an independent, self-confident young woman who refuses to be in a boy’s club…” please… please don’t do this

- ^ OH GOD F*CKING D*MMIT ❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌

- “I would’ve guessed ninja to sneak in the window… not take the elevator.” Apparently, Borg wanted the ninja to rob him ❌

- There’s no way Jay was this big a fan of Borg but didn’t know he had prosthetic legs ❌

- Most people have heard by now that the inclusion of Borg being disabled wasn’t really done for the sake of representing disabled people so much as it was for the convenience of the situation, but you’d think at least one of the writers would’ve said, “hey, maybe this statue we’re making of a character who can’t use their legs SHOULDN’T be STANDING normally on those two legs?” Could it really have been that hard to work the wheelchair into that statue design? Really? ❌

- “First you call us pedestrians and now we’re assailants?!” Jay finds these both equally insulting, which is not only hilarious, but also in-character since Crystalized showed us the only thing that offends the ninja more than being considered evil is being considered average ✅

- “Let the elevator have the techno-blades Kai! I think its made its point!” Jay has the backbone of a noodle, which we knew but still

- “Looks like we just quit our day jobs!” Don’t think I didn’t just see Cole’s mouth move with Kai’s voice ❌

- “Why don’t boys ever listen to me???” D*mmit, Nya do I need to bring the misogyny gif back out?

- “It’s not sharp. Why even call it a blade!?” Good question ❌

- Also, did you really need to test it out to see it wasn’t sharp? Couldn’t you have just, ya know, looked? ❌

- *glass cracks* “Oh snap.” ✅

- Why would breaking the window cause them all to immediately fly out of it? Before someone who actually understands physics comes into my comment section and explains how this works, I’m gonna cut you off and say I refuse to believe there’s an explanation that wouldn’t violate at least one health and safety protocol. OSHA: my scapegoat so I don’t have to learn how science works! ❌

- “You tried to give them the only thing that could defeat me and thought I wouldn’t notice?!” You DIDN’T notice - not until the ninja broke the statue - and tbh, you really should’ve. I get Overlord had to be cautious so as not to reveal himself too early on, but he literally watched Borg invite the ninja to his office, tell them it’s better if Lloyd wasn’t there, then send them off with a massive statue as a parting gift. Hell, Overlord has constant eyes on Borg, right? Did he not see him making new suits and shoving them, along with the blades, into the statue? ❌

- “A PROMISE ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH!” Admittedly, I have problems with Overlord this season, but I will NEVER insult his voice acting ✅

- I really can’t tell if Borg is screaming or laughing in this scene, which is probably the only reason it made it past the censors ❌

- “Cole, throw me!” “Excuse me?!?” “Throw me!” ✅

- I know it’s just the first episode, but I’m curious as to what they’re gonna do for new toys sets this wave- “The techno blade must’ve hacked the hover-copter’s system! Zane controls it!” Oh, there they are

- “*lying* I always said Mr. Cole was my favorite!” Accurate representation of middle schoolers… I’m counting that as a sin ❌

- “Anyone else feeling all tingly inside?” No!… maybe… ✅

- “I have given you new outfits to help block the facial recognition software.” They never actually do this. ❌

- “Robots vs. ninja? Dare I ask?” Someone mentioned awhile ago that Lloyd enters like a guest star on a sitcom and honestly they’re right ✅

- Also family hug! ✅

- “With a 4.2% chance of success, I’d say hope is slim.” “That’s why it’s called hope, Zane!” I actually have a lot to say about Zane’s arc this season, but for now I’m just gonna win this as foreshadowing and move on ✅

- “We will, but only when you’re safe!” “He wants these weapons, and for some reason, he also wants you. Remember, this was sensei’s plan. They can’t break him!” “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has yet to come. We need to worry about today!” “You said it, Zane!” “We will come back to New Ninjago City, and when we do, we’ll be ready!” I get Jay isn’t really depicted as the wise one, but was it really fair of the writers to take four inspirational, end-of-episode lines and only split them among 3 of 4 characters? Come on, give him a little credit! ❌

- ^ No. assembly line system. Could ever. F*cking. Function like this. ❌

Everything Right/Wrong with Ninjago “Legacy of the Green Ninja” E12: Return of the Overlord

- In case anyone is wondering about my mental state, I’m writing this pretty much right after watching the Crystalized finale and now listening to the intro is making me cry ✅

- Yada yada, beginning of this episode is different than the ending of last episode ❌

- “Red doesn’t seem to be your color. I think it’s time we try on a darker shade…” a darker shade of red is still red. ❌

- “Who cares about Ninjago!?” Blasphemy. The fandom is coming for you, Jay

- “Nya was my… my…ya know…” show treats the word “girlfriend” as if it’s as scandalous as saying “woman I occasionally f*ck ❌

- “I can’t fight him…” This is a tough predicament for Lloyd to be in - I wonder what familial comfort, or wise advice Wu is going to give him in these trying ti- “You must!” Yeah I really don’t know what I was expecting ❌

- “You have my fire!” “And my earth!” “And my ice!” “And lightning!” I don’t even care if this is a Lord of the Rings ripoff - Ninjago did it better ✅

- Also, Lloyd doesn’t have Jay’s lightning apparently. He just has lightning in general, but it’s not Jay’s ❌

- “We’re all in this together, kid!” Kid ✅

- The army may not have been there but it was a 10/10 entrance ✅

- “And here I was all ready to release the thunder!” Cole forgets his element ❌ (I’m hilarious I know)

- ^Lloyd! Didn’t your mother teach you not to change costumes in the middle of dramatic moments!? Kids these days ❌

- “He always wanted to turn Ninjago into his own image. Now we know how it’ll be done.” “But if he starts turning things evil…” Wait, how did we get from “he’s gonna use the weapon on Ninjago” to “he’s turning people evil?” Wouldn’t it be more likely that he’s just gonna nuke everyone or something? ❌

- “You go on without me.” No joke, when I first watched this scene all those years ago, my gut instinct was that Julien was gonna die, like right after the ninja walked away. Like we’d see the ninja fight the Overlord, then later we’d hear about how during said fight he, somewhere offscreen, had just dropped dead. To this day it is still my first thought every time I watch this.

- “Has anyone else been thinking about how this might be our final fight together?” “It’s all I’ve been thinking about.” Oh no I’m gonna start crying again, aren’t I? ✅

- “Remember that time Kai thought he was the green ninja?” *all start laughing* “He was SO NOT.” RIP Kai, burned to death by his brothers’ roasts ✅

- And, really? “Time?” As in one, SINGULAR moment when Kai thought he was the green ninja? ONE? ❌

- “You just had to destroy my tree house!” Lloyd, salty since episode 2 ✅

- “I thought [Wu] was a goner!” *bonk* “Wrong again mr. Empty head!” D*mn okay 😭 ✅

- We just glossed right over Nya learning Spinjitzu, didn’t we? ❌

- *Nya trips Lloyd* “No one does that to the green Ninja!” It’s a good thing Lloyd doesn’t go to school because Kai would murder any and all who dare bully him ✅

- “He must’ve used the ultimate weapon to turn her into his own evil image!” “Ahgjgjghg!” oh nO she groWLs😱 ❌

- “But… you said you’d always be behind me!” And they already screwed that up - they’ve been running in front of you this entire scene ❌

- Fun fact: Nya was originally going to be the master of wind, not water, which could explain how she does this sonic-like thing and stops Cole in midair, but now that her element has been changed to water it doesn’t make much sense, does it? ❌

- “So the balance has sent my son, my brother and wife to try to stop me?” Remember a few episodes back when I said you could replace words like “destiny” and “balance” with “plot convenience” and it’d actually make more sense? This is what I was talking about ❌

- “It looks like my little surprises kept the ninja busy!” Surprises? You only sent Nya. Is there another innocent civilian forcibly turned into an evil zombie just chilling around the island that no one ever found? Are they still there currently? *gasp* Ninjago: United plot line revealed?!?!👀😱 ❌

- “I don’t wanna fight you but I will if I have to. This is about more than just us - this is about what is right!” Solid line! Wait… we’re about to have a Garmadon monologue, aren’t we? A Garma-logue, one might call it? H*ll yeah I love those! ✅

- “Don’t you see? I will never do what is right - the evil in my blood can never go away! It has corrupted every ounce of my fiber, every bone in my body!” Oh it’s about to get really good isn’t it… this is like waiting for a beat drop ✅

- “I AM LORD GARMADON! Destiny took my family from me, and the only way for us to be together is to turn everything in this world into my image! Then you’ll all see what I see, feel what I feel!” ✅✅✅✅

- “You could’ve warned me it had to warm up!” “How could I? You were monologuing.” The Overlord believes in the integrity of uninterrupted Garma-logues ✅

- What is Misako’s bag made out of that it shields her from blaster fire??? ❌

- Yes, it is small, but this is the first moment that they’ve ever physically fought with each other! The slow-mo, and the way Misako gets distracted and just stares at them - I can’t even express how powerful this is ✅

- This too! We’re seeing people scream in fear before getting turned into zombies, and the “We’re losing” followed by “I win!” ✅

- “It’s four against one and I think she’s winning!” You THINK? Cole, you’re literally hanging upside down! ❌

- “Maybe we can use our powers without hurting her!” It’s taken them this long to figure out non-violent ways to use their powers? No wonder this show is rated as “fantasy violence” ❌

- “You stole that from my playbook!” Which is probably why you should’ve seen this coming sooner, especially when your entire family was literally just warning you about this exact thing ❌

- “Ninjago is mine!” “No… it was never going to be yours… IT. IS. MINE!” ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅

- I also love that when you see everyone’s faces, you can see Wu and Misako are scared but Lloyd is ready for a fight ✅

- “The metamorphosis HAS BEGUN!” ⬇️

- “Metamorphosis? What does that mean?” Kai skipped sixth grade ❌

- Overlord’s mouth movements aren’t synced with his words at all ❌

- “All this time… everything has led to this…” Not me getting goosebumps ✅

- “I’ve been planning this for thousands of years-“ “EAT GREEN!” Remember how Overlord believed in allowing others to finish their monologues? Lloyd doesn’t ✅

- “You are all alone!” “No! I’m not! My father is still in you - he won’t fight with me!” ✅

- “He is the green ninja!” Yeah, no sh*t?? Kai, where have you been the last entire season????? ❌

- ^ Jay ✅

- “Your father is… GONE!” F*ck! I’m supposed to be giving commentary but I don’t even know what to say to this ✅

- “But… the prophecy!” “Easy, kid! You’ve been through a lot!” Kid ✅
