Newton and Charlie grew up practically inseparable. The two are identical and as kids they would dress up to try and confuse people. Nobody could tell them apart besides for Newton wearing glasses and it didn't help that nobody could know one without the other

Their mother could tell them apart in a heartbeat. She didn't even have to look at them to be able to tell

The two are autistic, but with different support needs. Charlie has more support needs than Newton does. This is reflected in how their mother treats them (with Charlie she is more soft with and has to flip switches because she's convinced something bad will only happen to Charlie)

Charlie is actually pretty smart and dyslexic. He may not read/write English, but he can catch on pretty quickly to stuff. He of course learned Irish Gaelic through letters and it stuck to him. He is considered street smarts, and if he didn't go down the road of drugs and alcohol he probably could have actually gotten his degree

Newton is book smart and excelled at everything. He realized Charlie was better at Irish Gaelic so he helped Charlie learn it instead of written English. He was convinced that Charlie could follow him to skip grades if he just learned one language and got accommodations

Spoilers: he did not.

Mac met the twins in kindergarten and became best friends with them. He was their third piece and protected them whenever was needed. Charlie stuck to Mac more, spreading his attachment issues onto Mac also

Newton was recognized to be a "gifted" kid and was pushed up grades, much to their mom's disagreements. She didn't want to separate them at first but watched Newton shine on his own

Charlie sort of started to give up on school pretty quickly by third grade because of this. Newton was two grades ahead suddenly and getting scholarships to the nice smart kid middle and high schools that were private. It made Charlie upset and Newton spent a ton of time trying to teach Charlie stuff to help

(So, Charlie did know everything that he needed to also skip grades, but he couldn't read and write and he couldn't articulate it because he just started to shut down a ton at the sudden change)

Charlie spent a ton of time with Mac in school and started to bite at other kids. He became a menace pretty quickly in retaliation for his brother not being there with him.

So when Newton was there, he was fine. But the second they went to school, Charlie and Mac became little demons

Charlie is the root of the gang's codependency btw. He became codependent to Mac in grade school to cope with his brother not being there

When Dennis and Dee came around, Newton was already in high school and trying to become top of his class so he could go to college for free. At this point Newton was obsessed with the idea of monsters and science, so he was already on track for what was to come

Dennis and Dee never met Newton because of Newton being grades ahead and in high school. Charlie had made a joke about being a twin and understanding their blight, but they didn't know what he meant because they were convinced he was a single child

Charlie and Mac never brought up Newton, even as they became really close to Dennis. Charlie didn't want them to ruin Newton's chance at becoming good. He understood that Newton was a genius and wanted to support his brother. So that meant keeping him away from what could fuck him up

Charlie did enjoy though having rich friends and would bring back things for Newton whenever Frank and Barbara gave Mac and Charlie stuff. He was pretty smart at smuggling shit for him

When his sisters were born, Newton was almost done with his first PHD. Newton came home and interacted with Dennis and Dee once. They thought he was Charlie and he went along with it to keep the peace

Newton spent time at home for a bit before he went back for his other five degrees (which he did in a chunk of two then three). He spent as much time as he could with Charlie and helped Charlie get his GED

Charlie had flunked out of senior year btw. Good thing his brother is supportive. The gang doesn't know he has his GED.

Newton got a job with the government researching a ton of different things a few years before the pub opened. Newton started to send letters to Charlie because he knew Charlie was upset his brother was now gone

Charlie would constantly get homesick and Mac would call up Newton to have him call the burner that Charlie had at the moment (which Newton helped to set to the right language)

Charlie gets to hear all about Hermann, who Newton wouldn't shut up about while he was in college. He literally knows everything Newton knows about the guy and Charlie wants them to just get together already

Mac is still a bit weird about gay people at this point. They have the bar and all, so he's started his journey to being an out gay thankfully. But still a struggle. He's pretty supportive of Newton though. Literally the only gay he openly supports-

When the drift opened and Kaijus first appeared, Charlie was terrified.

Through Newton talking nonstop, Charlie actually knows a lot about Kaiju. He also watched a ton of the Godzilla movies, which stopped production after the drift opened. People didn't want to see the movies and producers just... Didn't want to make them.

Newton automatically moved to research and work on them. The guy was obsessed with them. It terrified Charlie to see his brother ramble about wanting to be up and close to them when he would come home

Charlie and Newton are rift compatible. Charlie visited for a week, where the two tested it out. Their sisters aren't somehow.

Charlie could probably give the best college course on Kaiju thanks to Newton talking non-stop about them btw. It surprises the gang when he randomly starts to ramble about Kaiju brains

Newton got his rank in the K-Science division and gets to work with Hermann full time, their communication gets cut in half. It stresses Charlie out and he starts to freak out constantly

This is where Charlie leans into the glue and alcohol more. Not that he didn't already. It just... Got worse.

Somehow Kaijus never hit Philly btw. Fun times. They aren't fully effected and so they just live their lives

The gang doesn't pay attention to the Kaiju stuff on TV. Besides Mac and Charlie. Mac pays less attention, but Charlie is always glued to the TV as he watched Jaegers run across the screen

When Newton is transferred to Hong Kong, Charlie is suddenly very sober. He starts to clean up and the others are unnerved by how level headed he is. It's still Charlie, but he can actually think straight

Dennis catches Charlie crying over a beer for the first time while watching some big fight between a Kaiju and Gipsy Danger. Dennis had no idea what was going on, so he left the guy

Mac ends up taping Newton on TV after they win the battle. Mac and Charlie celebrate together in a nicer bar without telling the others. When Mac got home that night, he was carrying a wasted Charlie into his and Dennis's apartment. Charlie was gripping onto a mini Kaiju plush and Dennis raised an eyebrow

Charlie and Mac slept huddled up in Mac's bed like they did when they were kids. It was a special night for them

I watched Interstellar and 2001: A Space Odyssey

Interstellar: manifest destiny, exploration conquest, the white settler colonialism fantasy. something like 5% of oceans have been explored and you want to relocate planets smh. engineers and physicists are real scientists but the plant bio and ecology needed for successful agriculture is for the uneducated and stupid huh. "Blight" is wiping out all crop species. Either those crops got too specialized to survive without human care and herbicides, or like all angiosperms got wiped out in which case eat pine nuts or something. creative problem solving. Toxic masculinity? Why does only cooper have the redneck accent but none of his kids Good science tho like with the black hole or ammonia atmosphere. I do think sending your brightest minds into a death trap is a terrible idea like at that point you are breeding yourselves to be stupid. Most unrealistic part is that they don't have drones, they are sending inefficient humans to do things manually while amazon is over here navigating cities to deliver packages the same day No way they got video feed you know how much data that takes compared to audio or text Corn discourse. oh the corn discourse i could give here Grow some fucking algae. don't have bare soil. live underground with a hepa filter. i am going to scream. This film needs solar punk soooo badly. I am chewing on the screen for some sustainable farming. i going to beat the creators over the head with a textbook. A captain going down with the ship. Why save humanity if other species or the integrity of earth can not be saved. Why is humanity's survival a priority. If Dr. Mann ran out of supplies how is he going to support a colony, even with the new ship. Ah he lied. Newtons 3rd law only getting somewhere by leaving something behind. Plan B. Cooper. No way he's alive in a black hole Space oddessy 2001 moment Wait wait. What did that equation do again? That was for plan A right? mass migration of humanity off of earth. Why did they need that equation again? I forgot. And this leads to saturn space stations? Sound track is great I cried at the point of the death bed reveal that they cant go to earth but i did not cry for the astronauts (also side note the soviets won this round cosmonaut is a better name), i cried for the Earth that had been exploited to the point of collapse and then abandoned. i mentioned this in an earlier post on "who turns off the lights", if humans had removed their influence and left the planet in joy for it to continue its existence without humans that would be one thing, but to destroy it and refuse to take responsibility for that like in the movie angers me. The Dust Bowl was a man made disaster. the dust bowl happened because of unsustainable agriculture (like unless american farmers switch to soil retaining practices and sustainable agriculture the US is going to run out of topsoil in like 100 years). modern pandemics both agricultural and human are caused by humans, the increasingly global range of markets means there's far more transmission of possible pathogen agents than ever before and due to changes in land use and human encroachment on natural areas (as well as displacement of wildlife ex: slash and burn) there's increased contact between wild animals and humans so more chances for diseases to jump. I've got complicated feelings on interstellar. on one hand it's a well made movie and the science is surprisingly good, i can see why people like it. on the other hand i am opposed to some of the core ideas and fundamental concepts of the movie that i mostly feel disgust and despair towards it and humanity. All these planets and only 10 were worth investigating, 3 had promising data, and 1 was barely habitable and you're already giving up on earth which was doing far more than supporting 1 human. this reminds me of all those times "smart" people logic themselves to the wrong conclusion, like you can use logic and still miss the point.

Man and robot get lost together in a space time wormhole out by saturn guided by some mystery incomprehensibly advanced civilization? You know what 2001 space oddessy time. Never watched but ive read its tvtropes page and its ao3. 20min of a bunch of people jumping around in monkey suits Interstellar is paced like an action movie, a marvel movie, it ends up felling generic in a way? space odyessy is much slower paced and feels refreshing compared to modern high budget movies. Like the whole sequence with clavius I really liked. It was subtle information dense (even if the actors forgot they were suppose to be in 0 gravity sometimes). Like how the movie shows through character interactions that Dr. Heywood is a very important and influential man, how delicate soviet relations could be during the cold war, and that while loving Heywood isn't often home to spend time with his daughter. and then we just don't know what happens to them Hal introduces themself as foolproof, incapable of error, and unable to lie Is this why when hal did indeed make an error and a small one at that it got caught in a desperate control loop as thing spiraled further from what was suppose to happen hal took more extreme actions which made things worse. Did the robit develop a sense of identity, stake everything on that sense of identity and then have a crisis when the fundamental of that identity were challenged? A snowballing and compounding situation HAL purposefully brings up how suspicious the mission is to dave. Guilt? Confession? Trust with dave? And this of course is the moment hal makes a mistake while in the pits of guilt about deceiving dave and coming too close to spilling secrets, dave who seems to be forming a friendship with them. …and now im psychoanalyzing the robot. Steven universe style halman gem GASLIGHT Now is murder girlbossing or gatekeeping Why did hal respond to dave at all? Why not take control of davecs pod? Hmm probably a manual overrride for that Hiven the conversation hal innitiates earlier and how they had regressed to their first memory. I think hal played that recording for dave Much slower definitely weirder. Just had to add a giant fetus huh. i like this better than interstellar it is far more visionary. cornfield chase is still a banger.

Sneak peek of my upcoming long Lumity fanfic

But things might change when her favourite book launch an online contest to find the perfect Azura, for the upcoming TV Show. Maybe everything she went through in the past was for this dream to come true.

“I can’t believe it!!” She silently shouted, squealing like an old kettle. “An Azura TV show!!!!” 

Of course, she would enter the contest, it would be a dream if she could just sit on the set and watch the magic come alive. She woke up the next morning with excitement, the first thing she did in the morning was to check her mail. But nothing more. Of course, she just entered her name and her mail. There would be a lot of people to enter the contest, it’s just common sense if she didn’t receive something right now. And it was okay, it was totally fine. That didn’t prevent her to check her mails every hour, though. It was the first exciting things in her life since… well since forever. Especially after the camp where everything went grey. But that was okay. Really. Everything was fine. She was fine. Surely nothing could darken her mood for the next coming months. No. Nothing.

My solo Strixhaven adventure journal staring Aziraphale as the Owlin Wizard Lorehold Student Erza and Crawly as the Yuan-ti Pureblood Druid Witherbloom student Crawly. This is to make it easier for my friend to read but might as well see if anyone else can enjoy it.

With Guest Stars from the rest of the Good Omen's cast as well as the Owl House because I love the show and needed more teachers and actual first year students.

Gum-Free Streets Initiative: Cleaning Up and Transforming Our Communities

More than 50 councils across the UK are to receive grants totalling more than £1.2 million to remove discarded chewing gum from our streets and prevent it from being littered again. Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cardiff, Glasgow, Ipswich, Liverpool, Sunderland and Wiltshire are among those to benefit from the second round of funding from the Chewing Gum Task Force. Launched in 2021, the Task Force was established by Defra and is administered by charity Keep Britain Tidy, with funding provided by gum producers. It aims to clean gum off pavements and put in measures to stop it being dropped in the first place, helping clamp down on anti-social littering. Estimates suggest the annual clean-up cost of chewing gum for councils in the UK is around £7 million and, according to Keep Britain Tidy, around 77% of England’s streets and 99% of retail sites are stained with gum. The Chewing Gum Task Force brings together some of the country’s major chewing gum producers, including Mars Wrigley and Perfetti Van Melle. Together, the producers have pledged up to £10 million over five years via the scheme to tackle gum littering. The latest round of funding includes: - Grants of up to £25,000 for cleansing with a fully funded bespoke gum litter prevention package. - Further grants of up to £25,000 for Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cardiff, Doncaster and Glasgow for the fully funded bespoke gum litter prevention package and long-term monitoring and evaluation carried out by not-for-profit social enterprise Behaviour Change.

Wikimedia.   Environment Minister Rebecca Pow said: Littering blights our communities, spoils our countryside, harms our wildlife and wastes taxpayers’ money when cleaning it up. That’s why we’re working with gum producers to tackle chewing gum stains. After the success of the first round of funding, this next slice will give councils further support to clean up our towns and cities. In its first year the task force awarded 44 grants worth a total of £1.2 million, benefitting 53 councils who were able to clean an estimated 2.5km2 of pavement, an area larger than 467 football pitches. By combining targeted street cleaning with specially designed signage to encourage people to bin their gum, participating councils achieved reductions in gum littering of up to 80% in the first two months. Monitoring and evaluation carried out by Behaviour Change has shown that a reduced rate of gum littering is still being observed six months after clean-up and the installation of prevention materials.   Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, Keep Britain Tidy’s chief executive, said: "Chewing gum litter is highly visible on our high streets and is both difficult and expensive to clean up, so the support for councils provided by the Chewing Gum Task Force and the gum manufacturers is very welcome." "However, once the gum has been cleaned up, it is vital to remind the public that when it comes to litter, whether it’s gum or anything else, there is only one place it should be – in the bin – and that is why the behaviour change element of the task force’s work is so important."   Naomi Jones, corporate affairs director at Mars Wrigley UK, said: "We’re pleased to be supporting the work of the Chewing Gum Task Force again this year." "While the majority of consumers already bin their used gum properly, we know there’s still work to be done to change the behaviour of people who are disposing of their gum irresponsibly." "In its first year, the Task Force’s work saw 2.5km2 cleaned in council areas around the country. Behaviour change interventions achieved chewing gum litter reductions of up to 80%. This year, we’ll be to be funding and partnering with another 56 councils, across the four nations, in 2023."   In 2022, individual councils received grants of up to £20,000 to fund street cleaning and the purchase of cleansing equipment. Larger grants of up to £70,000 were available to two or more councils working together to achieve a greater impact.  

North East Solution

In Grimsby, machines made by Eco Removal Systems were used to clean unsightly chewing gum stains in the town centre. Due to the crew wearing the machines as backpacks, the team quickly became known as ‘Gum Busters’. The stains were removed using an eco-friendly detergent made from sugar beet. This was heated and sprayed directly on to the gum to vaporise it.  

Better Signage for Cities

Four councils – Birmingham, Newport, Glasgow and Belfast – benefitted from a full independent evaluation of their clean-up and prevention signage. A reduction of up to 80% in gum littering after two months was measured as a result of the interventions, through a combination of pre- and post-intervention gum counts and footfall analysis. The task force was announced as part of the government’s strategy to support the evolution and regeneration of high streets across the country, which includes 15 Town Deals totalling £335 million to fund community regeneration projects, the transformation of derelict buildings and communities being given the chance to own local pubs, theatres, sports grounds and corner shops.  

Increasing Fines

Littering is a criminal offence. In the Prime Minister’s Anti-social Behaviour Action Plan, we have committed to raising the upper limit on spot fines later this year from £150 to £500 in England. To tackle littering of drinks containers, from 2025 we will introduce a deposit return scheme for drinks containers where people will be incentivised to recycle their bottles and cans by placing a small deposit on drinks products. We have also banned some of the most littered plastic items in England and plan to introduce further bans from October 2023. The opening of this next round of funding comes alongside further steps this week to deliver the Prime Minister’s Anti-Social Behaviour Action Plan. The plan sets out the government’s approach to making sure these issues are treated with the urgency they deserve by establishing a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of anti-social behaviour.  

More Power to Police and Local Authorities

It also gives the police and local authorities the tools they need to tackle the problem. Coinciding with Resolve’s ASB Awareness Week, pilot schemes have begun in police force areas to increase police patrols in hotspot areas, helping deter crimes from happening in the first place, and to deliver ‘immediate justice’ whereby offenders will be made to repair the damage they’ve caused to their communities with an aim to start reparative work within 48 hours.
