100 Days of Productivity Day 4
I spent the morning reading a paper for lab and filling in my bujo! Then I spent the day watching my boyfriend's niece and rewatched a physics lecture. Tomorrow will be a busy a day since I haven't done much this week, but I brought this on myself lol.

I have a poster due tomorrow and I just crashed my lab computer
argh.
This is the 3rd time this happens in the last year and we are still waiting for the budget to see if we can get a new one for me.
fortunately, I send myself trial images right before it happened so I have something to put on my poster even if it is not the ones I wanted to include.
Science sucks sometimes.

Child with Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine: Case Report
Hemiplegic migraine is a rare condition, which consists of a migraine with an aura, this being a unilateral motor weakness. It can be divided into familial or sporadic, according to whether or not similar cases are present in first-degree families. Its pathophysiology includes endogenous and exogenous factors. A case report was made of a 9-year-old female patient who presented four episodes with symptoms such as syncope, left hemiplegia, dizziness, visual blurring, among others. After ruling out other causes of hemiplegia, the diagnosis of sporadic hemiplegic migraine was closed. The patient presented with an atypical presentation of hemiplegic migraine, since she did not present with headache, which can occur in 1 to 5% of patients. However, symptoms such as unilateral paresthesia of limbs with a reversible pattern made it possible to classify her in this diagnosis. The treatment recommended for crisis prevention includes Sodium Valproate, which was recommended to her. Thus, the importance of performing a thorough clinical examination associated with imaging examinations for diagnoses of cases that are not normal is evident.

I had to direct this sweet old lady to NCCU (Neurosceinces critical care unit) and, as our hospital is pretty large, it was a long walk. She just went on and on about how her daughter was in surgery and how she was so young.
The last thing she said to me was “When my daughter grows up, I want her to be just like you.” then gave me a hug and walked away.

The modern science behind ancient Buddhist teachings Kingsland builds his niche by connecting the dots between the teachings of the Buddha and scientific discoveries about meditation and mindfulness. There are many books that tell the life story of Siddhartha Gautama from various perspectives (e.g. famously the books by Hermann Hesse and Karen Armstrong.) There are also a number of books reporting the science of meditation (e.g. Herbert Benson and Sat Bir Singh Khalsa.) However, it’s not so common for the subjects to be overlapped. Go to Amazon

Why brown fat is good for people’s health
Brown adipose fat (BAT) may help to protect against diabetes and obesity. BAT serves as a key metabolic filter that controls branched-chain amino acid clearance, contributing to better overall metabolic health.

100 days of productivity Day 5 and 6
Yesterday was a wreck. I managed to get all my physics stuff done, but then I took my mom to urgent care (shes okay now!!). That ended taking up most of the evening but at least shes okay! I also had to clear my phone because of software issue I'm assuming? So the pictures I took for yesterday were deleted and I did not want to out in the effort for making new ones lol.
Today was better. I read an article in the morning then did training for lab. I read for biomedical ethics and went to a neuroscience symposium on campus. I went to an award ceremony after that where my PI got an award!! Then we had lab meeting, I came home, did laundry, packed my lunch and ate dinner. So overall productive day lol.

My lab computer seems to get slower by the day. The lab mate I share the computer with started a script last night that normally takes 30 min per image, he had 21 images so it should have been done or almost done this morning. However, at 8 am, only 7 of the 21 had been processed.
obviously, it taking more than 30 minutes. The computer is also impossibly slow when it is processing anything it can’t be used.
Looks like it is going to be a stay home and catch up on articles day.

EyeWire
If you’ve caught the Connectome bug like I have, then you should check out EyeWire. It’s a game to map the brain developed by the Seung Lab, which is now at Princeton University but started off at MIT. It’s like open source Connectomics. You get to map neurons of the retina and help improve the machine learning algorithms for the Connectome project. Pretty cool. Check it out here!
