For context: I have this AU I am currently writing/drawing for on Instagram and Ao3. Pretty much, the Slayer — my OC, Zilvemar, — traveled back in time to Argus and asks for help from one of the Triumvirate’s members, Kil’jaeden.

Zilvemar is also Illidan’s childhood friend and has followed him long before his initial imprisonment. There’s a lot of oblivious pining between the two, so that’s where he fits into this—

HELLO I’m so sorry this took so long to answer !! i apologize in advance for the long ass ramble

it’s mostly a lot of fragmentary ideas BUT essentially it is me Thinking about all the different scenarios that could happen if thuringwethil was one of the only creatures to make it in and out of nan elmoth on a regular basis - maybe for scouting, maybe for her own exploring, she’s a vampire and she likes a dark and mysterious wood!

(short disclaimer that I can be very bad at keeping track of timelines and what happens when so I hope thuri isnt killed by luthien yet KSJSKSNS and if she is then no she isn’t <3)

but I like to imagine that Aredhel meets her while roaming about nan elmoth alone one day, and perhaps they are both a little (a lot) curious about the other - Aredhel interested in the first new face she’s seen in ages (and a beautiful face at that, she keeps finding gorgeous mysterious strangers in the woods???) and thuringwethil curious about what a spunky little noldor is doing out in this shadowy forest

and they keep meeting and talking and getting to know each other <3 of course, I think there will be some grappling with the whole enemies thing … but that could be fun :3

for example, being with each other solely in the seclusion of nan elmoth obscures the harsh reality of their opposing sides in the war, but as they keep talking Aredhel kind of realizes fuck. my family is out there and they need me out there fighting too. or maybe thuri who has to return to angband every time and see elves like aredhel held captive or killed is also like fuck… I got to get it together, there’s no way I can keep valuing her like this if our vision for arda is to come true, but also… perhaps it makes her a little kinder, too, and oh this is dangerous.

just thinking also about despite their little safe hideaways in the woods, all their brushes with the reality of the outside world through bits and pieces of conversation and tension. oooooh I can just IMAGINE the fight they’d have over thuri letting slip that she used to help torment maedhros, since Aredhel was so close with the feanorians it makes her sick thinking that thuri had any part in that, let alone a direct one, and just a stark reminder that thuri still actively works on the side that seeks the destruction of all that she holds dear. and as much as she longs to stay in nan elmoth - already she is so fucking tired, she’s faced betrayal and heartbreak and the Ice and she just wants to roam in the woods once more - she has to grapple with loyalty and duty and the love of her family.

idk just a bunch of delicious enemies to friends to lovers (to maybe enemies again???) ideas swirl in my brain and how it could bring out different fears and desires and dreams in the both of them

as for the outcome I think it depends on the circumstances, I usually like to tend towards a more sympathetic/kinder eol than in canon just bc the connotations of the original wig me out, so maybe thuringwethil becomes poly aredhel’s lover and eol is cool with it; but perhaps in a darker au thuringwethil helps aredhel break free from eol ? maybe maeglin is in the picture, maybe not?? i go back and forth depending on what kind of circumstances/tone I’d like to think about! sometimes I even think about a total au where instead of eol, aredhel meets a mysterious wandering woman who also seems to be lost in these same woods…

but yeah this is essentially just a bunch of fragments and images in my head moreso than like a cohesive narrative anshshskssk but I enjoy it in my little movie theater of a head!! thank you for asking tho I am always happy to share the little story pieces in my brain

If we're just talking headcanons I apply to canon, and not outright AU canon (though I make all my HCs canon in my AU lol), then…

Night elves:

Surnames are passed from mother to child.

Owing their existence to the magic of the Well of Eternity, they’re naturally a little more sensitive to the arcane than other races. That is, they have a bit of a “sixth sense” and most can feel the presence of magic without being magic users themselves.

The "social age of maturity" is 100, and this is the age when most receive their facial tattoos ((this is why Cathala doesn't have any; she was still on Pandaria when she turned 100)).

Polygamy/amory is commonplace and considered normal.

Teldrassil being only, like, 20 years old by BfA is silly to me so yes I'm one of those people who says it was a couple thousand years old before that.

Trolls, night elves, and nightborne can move their ears both to hear better and for communication (as a supplement to facial expressions, basically). High/blood/void elves have all but lost this ability.

Other races (sorry it’s so much shorter, I am mentally ill about night elves 😔):

All trolls are furry to some extent.

Trolls and orcs have converged on what I’m just gonna call a “snarl response”. They instinctively bare their teeth when feeling threatened, but can of course do it consciously as well because their lips are flexible enough for that to actually… look right. If you’re gonna have tusks, might as well put them to use lol. And because trolls have that, night elves have it as well.

Speaking of tusks: trolls and orcs, regardless of sex, can grow sizable tusks (varying person-to-person of course).

Similarly, all dwarves can grow facial hair.

But if we ARE talking AU lore… then boy do I have a google doc for you.

I’ve taken a break from the world of Azeroth for a while and I am just dipping my toes back in.

original plan of making Seidrin's visage a mag'har orc fell through, for two reasons. one: they can't be paladins and as charming as death knights are she's like, pretty explicitly a paladin of Goldrinn. like her only personality trait other than 'butch' and 'loves stabbing' is being a kick ass daughter. at kicking ass. but fortunately zandalari trolls can be paladins, and one of their tusk options has that warg look i wanted

oh. right, i exist in the physical realm. uh. i'm cleaning out the garage at work and it's sooooooooo dusty. they put all their shit down there and some of it's been untouched since 2015. so there's a lot of sneezing and wheezing as i am somewhat frail and shit is often Heavy but i'm having a very good time. i love you organization, i love you inventorying, i love you lists.

Okay so if you had to assign a pokemon for the twisted wonderland characters which one would it be? I would definitely give Jade any of the mushroom pokemon.

a singular mon? damn making my life hard (lh nm) thankfully i already have set teams for most of the characters and done (a little too much) research on which pokemon i think would go best w them so without further ado,,,, (also this will be minor spoilers for their future team comps when i finally get to writing so if anyones waiting for that to come out for the surprise then maybe don’t read) apologies in advance, this is gonna be a long one

Ace, zorua! i believe him and zorua would make a good pair, the illusion ability would be a nasty thing to go against but ace would definitely make the most of it

Deuce, lucario/riolu. this pair i believe goes together especially well because of how in the games/shows lucario characters are typically these noble protector pokemon. having a lucario around i think would mesh well with deuce’s personality while also fitting well with his habit of jumping into fights (whether it be joining said fights or preventing them)

Riddle, hard to pick one for him but hmmm i think i’ll go with rapidash! member of the equestrian club, after all, and fire types suit him for reasons i don’t think i have to explain lol

Cater, another hard one but… i think either cinccino or panpour for no particular reason other than vibes

Trey, there r so many i picked for his team that i really like but,,, mmmmm i think i’ll pick slurpuff for him? trey’s team comp represents him more as a whole that one pokemon does so it’s hard to pick but i’ll keep my final answer as slurpuff <3

Floyd, scrafty/scraggy. i was tempted to pick a water type pokemon but it has to be the scraggy line. fighting spirit vibes ! they’d get along well w each other me thinks

Jade, w jade i think ur absolutely right and all the mushroom pokemon fit him very well but if i had to pick one that’s not like breeloom, vileplume, shiinotic, foongus, etc thennn i think i’ll have to go with.. i’ll pick another unconventional and go with mawile. i think it fits jade and floyd rly well as a pokemon but the fairy typing plus it leaning more towards the more deceptively cute side (if you ignore the giant mouth on the back of its head) i think it fits jade a little more. ALSO IMAGINE MAWILE PICKING UP ON JADE’S HABIT OF THE HAND ON HIS CHEST THING AND HIS CLOSED EYES SMILES ITD BE ADORABLE

Kalim, when picking a team for kalim i struggled so much bc so many pokemon felt fitting for him which makes picking one all the mor difficult but i think i have to go with chatot. colorful little talkative bird, need i say more?

Epel, espurr because hair and because i said so! i think an epel espurr combo would b really cute and although it’s not a “tough strong looking pokemon” like epel is probably seeking i think having an espurr/meowstic on his team could really help him destigmatize the idea that strong people and pokemon have to be big w huge muscles and be able to lift a lotta stuff with their arms. they’re gonna have a great dynamic and arc <3

Vil, so many good picks again but gotta go with mienshao i think. elegant looking but strong fighting type pokemon, need i say more?

Since the time of the Temperance of Avarost, there have been multitudes of Seraphic cults. Most of these cults tended to worship one of or more of the Five Great Lords who had shown Themselves in the legendary era of Destiny Dawn.

Some of these religions were more exclusive than others such as that of the seafaring people known as FelNes. They came to power during the Avarost period and the reason for this was, according to their sacred writings, because they were favored by the Great Lord or Empyrean of Water.

During the Asgard Unification Period this lord was most commonly known as Amenoch to laypeople but in the language of the FelNes this lord has always been known as NelFes. According to their legends, they are NelFes’s people – children of the Empyrean through a line of vessels.

The FelNes have been relegated to seaside villages by the time of Asgard as the changes in the Earthpulse and constant warfare had left them bereft. They looked with suspicion upon Claudin and the Abbey, despite the peace they brought about. When further calamities occurred and the FelNes lost not only their ability to see seraphim, but their connection with NelFes/Amenoch who had awakened with a duty unknown, they felt their suspicions were justified.

What followed was a conflict - Maotelus worshippers and remnant followers of the Abbey on one side the FelNes on the other, that left the seafaring people even more disenfranchised. They hid away in a chain of oceanic caves and have not been seen since.

dramatis personae

Shirley FenNes

A girl born in the Era of Maotelus who the soothsayers foretold would be the next, true vessel of NelFes. Since the age of eight years old thanks to the Ritual of Ascension she has been connected to the Empyrean through various, forbidden Seraphic artes. The villagers give her a wide birth and refer to her as the MelNes - the savior, their shining one. Since the loss of her sister, Stella, she has felt truly alone in the world. Despite her connection to NelFes/Amenoch she possesses no power due to the strain such a relationship takes on her body.

Walter DelQues

A descendant of an ancient family of FelNes guards and the boy chosen to be the MelNes’s chief protector. At ten years old during the Ritual he too was gifted with powers - his being a tethering to a wind malak known as Fenimore. Since then he has honed both his seraphic artes and martial prowess so that he may go above and beyond his duty. Despite his loyalty to the FelNes and their cause, he cares for Shirley as a person rather than a saint thanks to the time he has spent watching her lonely childhood. Despite this, he sees his role as tantamount to his very being and failure is unfathomable in his eyes.

Fenimore

 A wind seraph born of an earthpulse close to the FelNes hideaway. The Elders captured her as a child and she was given to Walter and forcefully tethered to him (at which point he and Shirley both gained high resonance). As such, she very much detested the FelNes, Walter, and Shirley through her first years of life. She felt she had left something behind at that Earthpulse point… However, as she grew alongside Walter she was able to see  the FelNes society for what it had truly become - warped and cruel. It was cruel to not just her but Shirley and Walter, and having realized this Fenimore set out to free the three of them. She and Walter butt heads often but their mutual care for Shirley centers them.

Checking out WotLK Classic. Decided to level and ding a nelf warrior to level 10.

I like to think this is my OC, Ardenn (from retail, and this is the same name I gave this elf), in his more innocent days, before the Burning of Teldrassil drove him insane and made him rage (and ultimately fail) against the Shadowlands.

Or maybe not. Maybe this is set in an AU where Sylvanas never becomes Warchief and Teldrassil doesn’t fall, therefore Ardenn never has his mental break and his familial bonds with his daughter never permanently shatters. Maybe he decides to stay an adventurer and join the Dragonscale Expedition to document their research in the Dragon Isles.

Naturally I’m a fan of Capital A ANGST and prefer my headcanon where he either (a) refuses to leave the Shadowlands until Sylvanas gets punished (a more spiteful version of the ending to The Searchers, and fat chance of that happening for him, so he stays there permanently unless there’s an off-chance she perma-dies, but if the power of capitalism has anything to say she wouldn’t so he’s shit out of luck) or (b) throws himself off Oribos as a fuck you to Pelagos when he sees his efforts were All For Nothing and may or may not have wound up in the past where the Burning probably doesn’t happen over and over again but his mind is so broken and exhausted that thinking of the possibility doesn’t register; if he recovers from everything post-Burning, he might be able to stop it - and Sylvanas’s ascension to Warchief - right before the assault on the Broken Shore...maybe.
